Wheal Tor

  • Inn Details

Wheal Tor is a freehold licensed premises and is the highest inn in Cornwall nestling 996ft high atop Caradon Hill a truly stunning location with some of the best views in Cornwall. Trading all year round the premises is a popular haunt of locals , walkers and visitors alike – everybody is always welcome whether to sit outside in the gardens and admire the views whilst enjoying a cream tea or a pint of local ale or simply warming yourself by the log fire on a cold winters day. Set in a secluded pine copse and 21/2 acres of gardens on the edge of Bodmin Moor, the premises was once home to Captain Seccombe who managed the prosperous East Caradon copper mine and indeed, the original window from which the miners where paid is still in existence. After the mining boom Wheal Tor became East Caradon Farm then later a care home until its eventual guise as a pub and hotel in the early 1970's. Approached by a hard core track that meanders over the moor the property now trades as a licensed bar and restaurant with seven nicely furnished en-suite letting rooms. Wheal Tor is a truly unique experience that has to be seen to be believed. The cosy and relaxing bar and dining room at Wheal Tor are a popular haven for locals and visitors alike. Dog and children friendly a warm welcome is always on hand for whoever visits. In the winter the ever greeting log fire plays host to the chilly walkers and in the summer months the spectacular views from both bar and dining rooms windows cannot be surpassed and gives a gigantic window into the true beauty of South East Cornwall and Bodmin Moor. The bar and restaurant still have the original fireplaces and the warmth from the original granite walls and the fascinating décor and furniture makes it a fascinating and peaceful environment to accommodate its visitors. You can relax and eat or simply take a drink from the well stocked bar which sells local ales and cider.
