The Old George offers luxury accommodation and a warm welcome in a traditional and picturesque village setting. Located in West Dorset close to the borders of Devon and Somerset The Old George makes the ideal base for exploring the Jurassic Coast and the unspoilt local countryside. In one day you could stroll around the beautiful gardens at Forde Abbey in Somerset just seven miles away visit the picturesque seaside town of Beer in Devon for lunch and then take a walk up Pilsdon Pen for a spectacular view of Dorset - before returning to The Old George for a well deserved rest! We have three spacious rooms all newly refurbished to a very high standard with every consideration made for the comfort of our guests - egyptian cotton bed linen feather and down duvets luxurious toiletries and fluffy bathrobes. All our rooms are ensuite and guests have the choice of charming traditional bathrooms with roll-top baths or a modern luxury shower room. Broadwindsor's most noted claim to fame is its connections with King Charles II. King Charles took refuge in the Castle Inn in 1651 whilst escaping from the parliamentarians. Troops intended to search the inn but were side tracked by a rumpus in the village over a baby being born to a camp follower. When they eventually sorted out the problem they went straight to bed exhausted. This allowed Charles disguised as a serving wench to escape. The Castle Inn burnt down and was rebuilt in 1850 as the George Inn. The village is also remembered for the Reverend Thomas Fuller who made his congregation roar with laughter during his sermons a rare event in the 1600's. Today in the village the Craft and Design Centre offers a wide range of unique gifts and an award winning restaurant - the perfect place for a Dorset cream tea!
