The George & dragon has a little of something for all. The two charming guest bedrooms are available all year round with a full Yorkshire breakfast, hot baked morning scones, real coffee & teas served in their own private parlour. The George & Dragon offers real food cooked fresh & imaginatively, daily from our special menu. Plate pies to fresh seafood & of course the pudding board with all the old favourites, beautifully prepared. Ales are locally brewed. The wine list is an eclectic mix of old school & new origin, sourced & carefully chosen by people who love great food and wine. Barnard Castle is a historic thriving market town, which developed in the protective shadow of Bernard Balliol's castle. Built on a fine defensive site in 1125, the castle is in the care of English Heritage and is open to the public. In the town centre, the octagonal Market cross, or Butter Market, served a number of purposes, dairy produce was sold here and it was also the town's lock up, Town Hall and Court House. Visit the Josephine and John Bowes Museum built in the style of a French chateau, it houses one of the country's finest art collections. The G & D winter opening hours Monday & Wednesday 12 noon till 2.30, 5pm till 9pm Thursday to Sunday 12 noon till 2.30, 5pm till 11pm Closed all day Tuesday

A66|Road|0.5|boldron is sign posted off the A66. coming from scotch corner,We are just after the second Barnard castle turn off on the right hand side. From Penrith we are about 1 mile after the bowes turn off on the left hand side
