    Hawkshead is one of Lakeland's most attractive small villages, with plenty of shops, pubs and cafés. Ambleside is one of Lakeland's larger towns with every amenity and is ideally placed as a centre with convenient access to all the many attractions of the Lake District. The cottage was built over 300 years ago and was once owned by Beatrix Potter. It is set in 10 acres of grounds bordering the lake.The garden and its furniture is yours to enjoy. There is a profusion of attractive plants, plus wildlife including red squirrels, deer and many birds. From the door there are walks over Claife and Latterbarrow. Also footpaths to Hawkshead and the Windermere Ferry giving access to Bowness.

      Ambleside|Road|4.5|From Ambleside follow signs for Coniston, at Clappersgate take the turning left onto the B5286 to Hawkshead. Follow this road for approximately 1.5 miles and take the first turning left which will be sign posted WRAY keep on this road until you reach High Wray. Take the only turning left in High Wray which is sign posted ' Ferry, road unfit after 1 mile' continue along this road until you see our sign ' Slack Cottage' on the left. A591|Road|5|From Ambleside follow signs to Coniston and Hawkshead. After ¾ mile turn left at the sign to Hawkshead. After 2 miles turn first left at the signpost to Wray/Low Wray Campsite.Follow this road past the entrance to Wray Castle to High Wray village. Take first left in village signposted ""Ferry 3 miles road unsuitable after 1 mile"". Pass a farmhouse and barn, next left you will see Slack Cottage Bed and Breakfast sign. Turn into the drive, our drive drops steeply down to the right.
