Pleasant place to stay and perfect location for CUA graduation. Very convenient. Great breakfast cooked to order every morning. Although we didn't take advantage of it, I loved the fact that we could have cooked our own dinner.

Just returned from a one-night stay and wish I had more time to spend. The hosts, John and Ginger are so inviting and lovely. The room was comfortable and charming, and I'm still thinking of the triple berry waffle that Ginger prepared for breakfast. While restaurants aren't right around the block, they are certainly within walking distance. I will definitely return and also recommend to friends and colleagues.

My wife and I stayed for only one night...a quick get away so we would be on time for a conference we needed to attend the next day. We were unable to arrive before 9pm yet all was in place and waiting for us. The Anna Cooper room was superb...unusually quiet ... only those who have spent a night in other parts of DC will really appreciate what those two words mean. We left bright/early the next morning so we were unable to sample breakfast, but we still found some muffins to help us as we drove off for our conference. We'll definitely be back, hopefully when we can enjoy a full, relaxed stay.

Highly recommended. The inn is clean, well maintained, with a comfortable antique atmosphere. Breakfast is comprehensive and highly flexible; the staff will basically cook any combination of the available foods, in just about any desired quantity. The living room is under-used, but well lighted and provides plenty of comfortable upholstered chairs, plus a couch. In fact, there are living rooms on all three floors. A good place to relax and feel at home. For someone who relies on mass transit, including Amtrak, Greyhound, city buses, and Metrorail, it is a plus that after checking out, I could leave my suitcase almost all day in a closet near the front door, coming back for it after running around the city for several hours.

i worked here for a brief time in 2006, so when i needed a place to stay during a trip back to DC this summer, i called the bloomingdale inn! holy crap are they helpful. besides my friendly reservation conversation with the new manager, john, i got the most thorough email telling me everything i could possibly need or want to know before i got there. like the 5 different transportation options, directions to my room, where to eat, where to do laundry, how much a metro pass costs... it was amazing. then i got there and there was a giant vase of flowers with my name on it in my room! YOU GUYS!! my whole experience there was pretty self-run, which i like, but if you're the type of guest who wants to chat with the innkeeper all morning, you can have that experience too. the rooms are nice, clean, and homey, and you'll feel as welcome as if you were visiting your granny. true, the bloomingdale inn doesn't sit across the street from a metro stop, but the walk is lovely, buses are nearby and frequent, and cabs are cheap. if you want to feel like you're visiting old DC where the people are kind and the pace is relaxing, stay here. oh, and the rates are very affordable for the quality and location.

This BB is a renovated pair of townhouses built circa 1905 and located near the McMillan Reservoir and Howard University. It is a lovely area with tree lined streets and attractive buildings. Sadly there are very few restaurants in the area and it is a bit of walk to the nearest metro station. The Inn has a hired cook who will make delicious breakfasts to order. There is plenty of space to roam including a living room and a TV room (which I didn't see). The wash rooms are quite nice. The building in general needs some fixing up but is certainly adequate. The owner is quite pleasant and helpful. All in all a nice place to stay in DC.

I was in DC for a weekend course, found bloomingdale inn to be a delight!

Row houses decorated as a victorian and shabby chic. The neighborhood is wonderful to walk in. The rooms were clean and addressed daily. The breakfasts were outstanding and enough to keep you going all day. John and Ginger are amazing and make you feel as if you are one of the family. I love the place and plan to visit often.

Great quiet get away- home away from home. I went to DC for a business trip and chose The Bloomingdale Inn because it was close to my meeting place. I was very pleased, it was nice to get away from the typical "hotel" scene. I truly felt at home. Thanks Guys!

I was interviewing at DC Children's Hospital and I needed a place close to the hospital. This Inn I found on Google and it was wonderful. It was in a very nice neighborhood in DC and super convenient in location to the hospital. The breakfast the morning of the interview was very good and the wireless service was excellent. All in all it was a great choice and met my needs for my interview stay.

This B&B is working to add private bathrooms, where only one of their ten rooms now has the private baths. The share baths are very nice and there was no real conflict in use. Perhaps a robe (or two) in each room would be a nice amenity for moving from guest rooms to baths. Nice innkeepers and good breakfasts. We would stay here again and can recommend to our friends for DC visits. Good bus service (every half-hour) to most points in DC. Rooms were generally clean, but curtains could use some attention.

Our four night stay at the Bloomingdale Inn was fantastic. The check in process is so smooth with no glitches. We could walk easily to the bus and just a little longer hike to the metro at Howard U. Because of the hearty breakfast each day we saved greatly on our food budget. Beautiful rooms friendly staff and wonderful inn keepers.

The Bloomingdale Inn was very clean and the staff was great. The staff took care of all our needs. The rooms were nice size and the restrooms were very clean. I would definitely stay again, and would recommend the bloomindale Inn to a friend.

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful stay at Bloombingdale Inn! If I need a place to stay again in DC we will definitely go back. The Inkeeper was great - friendly and helpful, great to talk to you, but also gave us privacy. The whole atmosphere was very inviting and welcome. Thank you for a great stay!

I had a wonderful stay here with the hosts being more than helpful. Met some lovely people at breakfast each day. My room was huge with free Internet and free phone calls in the US. John and Ginger cooked breakfast each day and there were snacks available if we needed them. The only disadvantage is the location. I could never coordinate with the bus schedule but it's only a $10.00 taxi ride to Union Station. The area has some amazing houses and is very pretty to walk around.

I really enjoyed my stsy at the Bloomingdage Inn, John went out of his way to make our stay enjoyable, I would reccomend this Inn for any one who wants a home away from home. Its not far from Union square which made it more inviting

I came for a business trip in the afternoon and left mid-morning after a conference call I took in my room. It was an easy-to-find location, and John and Ginger were very hospitable. It was so hot, and I was (at first) the only guest), so John gave me a free upgrade to a downstairs room, much larger and much cooler. When he had a last-minute booking, he was kind enough to give me a call and let me know there would be another guest. I so much appreciate this, as a single female traveler. The bed was so comfortable, and this is the first B&B I have stayed at where there was cable tv, an iron and an ironing board in the room! Breakfast was also great. They made me a delicious spinach and feta omelet, with some fruit and two vegetarian "sausage" patties, and they made the plate look like a smiley face. A great charming stay. I will absolutely come again.

great spot away from the the busy end of town yet close to everything. transport practicaly at your door.we were impressed by the cleaningness of the establishment, the breakfast staff could not do enough for you. certainly recomend it to my friends. well done John

Nice house hotel. Clean, cozy, home breakfast (not continental). Manager cooks for you. Manager is really nice. Volunteer to give me a ride and drop me off to my destination and sent me to airport when my shuttle did not show up. Really appreciate this inn and manager. I had a great time in DC. Two-thumb up recommendation.

This was a great place to stay. Not the typical B & B though, more like the hostels in Europe, but that's a good thing! Sometimes B & B owners are kind of "in your face." But John and Ginger were there when you needed them and both can cook a great breakfast! They are both kind and generous people. The rooms were nice and cleaned daily, and each floor has its own living room so we could hang out there on our down time. Made it feel like we had a suite! I purposely chose a room toward the back to avoid street noise, but it's a lovely residential area so that was not even an issue. Would definitely recommend this place! p.s. It might be time to take the Christmas decorations from the 3rd floor down!

It's a fine big row house, very clean and comfortable. Our hosts were very nice and the food was great!

Our stay at this inn was all we could have asked for in friendliness, food and service. We stayed for over a week and it was like a home away from home. We would highly recommend it someone staying in DC as it is convenient to the Washington Hospital complex as well as the historical sights.

Personalized service, plentiful street parking, and delicious meals make this a wonderful deal and a great place to call home for the night!

I'm not sure what I was expecting- but it certainly wasn't something quite as nice as this! The room was huge, clean, in a gorgeous house. It was like having a beautiful house to myself, with a clean bathroom just down the hall, a convenient kitchen, and great price even for a student. Will definitely come back if I'm ever in the DC area again!

Great location within the city. Able to get to all the attractions we wanted to see in a timely manner. Breakfast was great didn't need a lunch.

I booked the room for my parents. They were hestitant about the common bathroom arrangement but gave it a try. They were glad they did. The two row houses that have been converted are well done. The proprieter is great with advice on where to eat, how to get around and makes a wonderful breckfast in our situation, included feeding 3-4 extras everyday. It's location close to Catholic U, Howard and the Capitol is a plus....maybe it was just Karma but we really liked the place.

The location is perfect and our host was very informative and very helpful. The bonus was his great waffles...don't miss out! Will recommend this to all our friends. Harold & Sharon

We really enjoyed our stay at the Bloomingdale Inn. The house décor is lovely and the rooms are comfortable, attractive and clean. Breakfast was great… delicious eggs and waffles along with cereals, breads, bagels, jams, peanut butter and more. Such a great way to start the day. Jim, the Innkeeper, was a wonderful host with good conversation and information. He even found time to drive us to Union Station for our train out of town. Will definitely stay again!

We stayed here the middle of October and found it very comfortable and affordable for the Washington DC area. The bed was very good for my husband, but a little too firm for me. Easy access to bus line, close to the wonderous things of the area.

This was my first stay at a Bed & Breakfast and I was extremely pleased. The visit was so much nicer than staying at a motel. I felt as though I was visiting with friends. The room was delightful, the breakfast most enjoyable and Jim is an exceptionally warm person. No request was an effort for him. I will certainly return and recommend the Inn to my friends.

I stayed in that hotel with my friend. We both were amaised by what we saw. My friend's firts question was: " what is this place?" It's different, very kind and simple. I felt like I am at home...very kind people, nice rooms, internet, kitchen everything you need right there and 24/7. We were impressed by kindness of that hotel. If I need to go back to Washington again ... I know where to stay.

One night stay in the Barnet Room. Arrived at 1 AM, to a very warm welcome. The room was beautiful and comfortable with a view of the reservoir. Woke up after 9 AM the next day. The owner was busy preparing hot breakfasts to order, for late diners! Then he walked me to the bus stop! The neighborhood has blocks of beautiful, well maintained old buildings. I would definitely stay here again.

Jim was a perfect "inn host"! He also makes the best "Belgin Waffels" in town. the room with an old fashioned bathtub was charming. I would go again!

i only stayed overnight, but i was treated to a full tour, a delicious home-cooked complimentary breakfast, and as much dc lore as i wanted. it's a really beautiful place and i highly recommend it.

My wife, two children, and I stayed there during our stay in DC. Jim, the innkeeper, was very gracious, helpful, and friendly. I felt like we were staying in a relative's home. The rooms were great, and the bed very comfortable. Easy access to the bus line to the downtown area/Union Station. The first day, we walked to the Mall area. (A long, healthy walk, but doable just the same.) I heartily recommend this place if you are traveling to the DC area. TT, Tucson, AZ

I took my daughter and her two small children to visit DC. We knew nothing about the area before coming but the inn keepers treated us feel like their family and always felt safe!! The breakfast was delicious and the service superb! The bedroom was clean and roomy. Their were games for the children to play and a computer to check your emails. We were reluctant about a shared bathroom but it worked out great. It was clean, spacious and plenty of other bathrooms if one was occupied. I have been to alot of B&B's and I would definitely go back. Thanks Bloomingdale Inn!

A very pleasant laid back stay ...

This was my second stay with the inn; Jim was so helpful and the rooms were just the size I needed and so clean. Not knowing the DC area, Jim provided and assisted me with finding places to dine and even walked me to the corner to guide me on my way. This will be my place to stay (if available) each time I return. Thanks Jim

I totally enjoyed my stay at the Bloomingdale Inn, I would go back in a heartbeat. I appreciated the cleanliness, comfortable room with internet, breakfast and conversation, and most of all the outstanding service! I called my son to let him know about this gem ($7.00 cab ride or $1.35 bus ride from Union Station).

My stay was most pleasant...service outstanding. I felt welcome and safe. Any questions I had were answered. Definitely will recommend and/or return on my next trip to DC.

We stayed 4 nights, enjoyed all aspects of the inn - clean, comfortable, Jim was a most attentive Host for our visit. Would definately return if making another trip to Washington DC.

We came here for a church women's retreat from Vienna, VA. This is the perfect distance away from home and a very beautiful home. It's like a little oasis of luxury in the middle of our busy lives.

For our weekend ladies' retreat, the inn met our needs perfectly. Comfortable, classic, roomy, yet cozy. We loved the ambiance and the opportunity to get away so close to home!

Warm pastel walls greeted me as I entered the cozy inn. My group milled around the inn feeling as though we were at a friend's home. The creaking floors allowed me to keep tabs on my roommate!

About 30 ladies from church came on Friday afternoon 'til lunch(ish) on Sat for a short retreat. It was a lovely time. Staff was helpful, courteous, accommodating, lovely surroundings. Loved walking in the neighborhood.

Bloomingdale had the best service I've ever encountered traveling, and at a great price. Guest rooms are large and comfortable, luxuriously decorated. Although bathroom was 'shared' I never felt as if I were sharing bath, and that despite the inn was full.

Housekeeping left a lot to be desired - clean towels were only left 3 out of the 8 days we stayed. Sometimes our water glasses were replaced, sometimes not. Gerald & Carl were great, but a little variety for the evening snack would be great (Oreos & bananas every night) and breakfast was the same every day too - where were the waffles mentioned in your ad? This place has the potential to be lovely, but it needs work, air conditioners were inadequate & the heat was coming on during 80° days!

The service was excellent and the innkeepers congenial and helpful. While having great potential, we thought that maybe the rooms were a work in progress, yet this B&B has been open for a while now. Our room had a nice wood floor, but not a single rug or comfortable chair to sit in. Antique charm in terms of furniture, art, or charm was minimal everywhere. Breakfast was adequate, but the same each morning and lacking in presentation. On the whole, the property had a lot of possibilities, but still needed a good amount of attention and work to truly be on the 'better' list.

The owners were very helpful, the house is beautiful, there were fresh baked cookies served in the afternoon and the breakfast was very good. It was a fabulous value for the money and we really enjoyed staying there! It was convenient to the Metro and all the attractions and we met people there that we are still friends with today!! Loved the cat!
