4.4 out of 5Feeling at home on a business trip
June 15, 2012
On a ten day business trip to DC, I really appreciated staying at the American Guest House. Experienced in standard and boring 4star hotels, I had been looking for something different, more humane and cosy. I definitely wasn't disappointed! The two rooms I stayed in were great, the quality of the equipment and the retro feeling of the furniture - special pieces altogether - invites for relaxing moments after busy work days. And the warmth of the place does not only stem from the wooden floors, walls with frames and the beautiful staircase - the manager, Jonathan, and Joseph, made the difference. Extremely helpful and courteous, and real professionals, they are always up for an interesting chat. Finally, let's mention the rich breakfast: a pleasure to start a day like this! For sure, staying at this guesthouse made a difference in my trip... I can only smile when I think about my colleagues who stayed in one of those dusty and anonymous hotels with hundreds of rooms.... Thank you!

This was our first time at a B&B so we did not know what to expect. We were caught up looking around at all the beautiful and ornate woodwork. Nice rooms, very clean and comfortable. The innkeepers were all very nice. We really liked the closeness to DuPont circle...just a couple blocks away.

We were on a two week trip that included the Waldorf in NY City and another luxury hotel in Texas. We spent 4 nights at the American Guest House while in Washington. It was clearly our favorite of all the places we stayed. Considering all aspects from room quality, price, staff kindness, and location, I would choose everytime to stay at the American Guest House. The Inn Keeper is an especially helpful person and we enjoyed the interaction with the other guest at breakfast each morning. When I am in DC, this is my first choice.

Lucia, Claudio, and Jonathan, The best part of my recent stay in DC was my lodging at the American Guest House. The cordial staff, always pleasant smiles, their willingness to provide us with information, and everything else we needed, made our stay a wonderful four days. Your American Guest House will definitely be recommended by us to family, friends, and co-workers. Jonathan, I want to thank you for your delicious breakfasts that you made for us in the morning. What a great way to begin our work days while there.
3.8 out of 5Great value
April 09, 2010
With breakfast thrown in, this is a superb value for DC. Innkeeper Jonathan was attentive, breakfast was delicious. Drawbacks - not near Metro station; mattress sagged in the middle, making for less than ideal sleep.
Innkeeper Response
DuPont Circle metro station is only 1/2 mile away, no more than a 10 minutes walk or you can take metrobus 42 right in front of the guest house to the metro station and ride it for about 3 minutes. As for the mattress condition, we are very sorry for the inconvenience to our guest and apologize for the discomfort, we were not aware of the problem, checked the mattress and it seemed OK but have replaced it to assure comfort to all our guests.5 out of 5Lovely Place to Stay
March 12, 2010
The building is lovely and well-kept. Everything was neat and clean and beautiful. The staff was helpful above and beyond the call. From the exceptionally warm and friendly welcome to the beautifully prepared breakfast, the careful attention to my room, and help with arranging my very early cab to the airport, I truly appreciate the diligent service. As a single woman traveling alone, I felt welcome, safe, and respected. I highly recommend American Guest House.

All the positive comments already said about AGH are true. Hospitality, friendliness, cleanliness, willing to help in any way, and breakfast (!!) are far above other locations. Would have stayed longer if rooms were available. Easy to understand why it is so popular and why there are many return customers. Thoroughly enjoyed. Jonathan's breakfasts can't be beat!
