The Dutch Iris Inn Bed & Breakfast

Our stay at the Dutch Iris Inn was amazing. The hosts are so friendly- we felt like we were visiting old friends, not staying in a strangers home or a faceless hotel! There was a perfect balance between privacy and 'hotel like' feel, and the homliness that comes with friendly hosts, homly touches and certainly the home cooked breakfasts! This was our first experience of a b&b for a long time- and I was really pleased and surpirsed how lovely it was. From other reviews, I gather this isn't the norm- in which case, you need to visitthe Dutch Iris Inn to experience what b&b stays should be like! Our room was lovely, the best part by far being the open fire in the room! I can't recommend enough this Inn, I just wished we lived closer so that we could go again! Living in Wales (UK), its a bit far unfortunately. But anyone I know who ever ventures out to Connecticut, I'll be pointing in the way of the Dutch Iris! Thank you for a lovely break!

I took my fiance away as a surprise for one evening. We had the best one night stay at a wonderful bed and breakfast, the Dutch Iris Inn. The inn is beautiful, spotless and warm. I had asked for the All Romantic Touch package and it was everything it said and more. Bouquet of beautiful fresh roses and flowers, a chilled bottle of prosecco (the other choice was champagne or wine) and a plateful of chocolate dipped strawberries. My fiance was so surprised and so impressed with the presentation of it all. The hosts are definitely in the right business! They both were very friendly, helpful and hospitable. We stayed in the Dibble Room and loved it! Very romantic and well appointed! The breakfast was delicious and we wished we could have stayed a lot longer, we will next time. Very good and helpful advice on what to see in the area. Delicious breakfasts including catering for a special diet. We found the room gloomy with insufficient lighting but a lamp was provided as soon as we mentioned it.

My husband and I won a gift certificate for a one night stay. We stayed in the Dibble Room. We enjoyed the room and all the ammenaties. The porch was very relaxing and the breakfast the next morning was delicious. The owners were very pleasant and hospitable. We have now stayed in three different rooms. Each is unique, beautiful and has every thoughtful touch a visitor could want. Plenty of pillows, hangars, iron and board; in the dining room are snacks, coffee, tea & water and a guest refrigerator. The wi-fi is reliable, and it's easy to find a plug for all our devices. There is an extensive and useful reference book with menus and directions. Bill and Nancy are good and caring people, and their inn is elegant and comfortable like home. HIGHLY recommended!

This is a lovely old house, with antique furniture, delicious food, and innkeepers that epitomize hospitality. Bill and Nancy made us extremely welcome, and are just lovely people. The only negative I can think of is the noise coming from the road in the morning. If only those who built the house 199 years ago could have known what a truck sounds like, they might have sited it further from the road! But don't let that stop you picking this lovely place.

A friend of mine and I were visiting New England for the first time, and we decided to also try out B&Bs for the first time. We came to Dutch Iris with no idea of what to expect, but after having been stuck in traffic for about two and a half hours, arriving at such a lovely haven of comfort and hominess was exactly what we both needed. Nancy, one of the owners, met us in the living room, helped us to get settled, and showed us around the inn. She and her husband Bill provided excellent service at breakfast, and the whole place was full of thoughtful touches to help make the experience more comfortable (i.e., a community fridge to store perishable items such as fruit, home-grown herbs used in making the breakfasts, local ice cream available to all guests). We would definitely be willing to return again, and perhaps for a longer visit next time.

This was my first time at a BB and it was just wonderful! The innkeepers were so nice and helpful with directions to the nearby waterfall/hiking state park. The photo on the website was a little deceiving...our room was a bit smaller than we expected, but just as charming as it was portrayed so we were not disappointed. If delicious food is your thing, the Dutch Iris Inn is the place to stay. We stayed three nights and each morning were met with unique and flavorful breakfasts. Each meal began with a fresh fruit starter (cold fruit soup, yogurt parfait, fruit salad), juice and gourmet coffee. Then the fireworks started. Day one was baked eggs with herbs and garlic, accompanied with bacon and sweet bread. Day two was orange brioche french toast with sausage. Day three was a fabulous breakfast pie of eggs, creamy cheese and tomato, with ham on the side. Add to the above home made butters and jams and you have a happy start to every day. The rest is exactly as it appears on the web site, except for two things you can't see. The inn is sparkling clean and the grounds are both beautiful and spacious. The entire experience is just what you want in a B&B. You couldn't ask for nicer, more considerate inn keepers than Nancy and Bill either. They provide just the right amount of service while leaving you free to breathe deeply and enjoy the environment they've created.

We stayed at the Dutch Iris Inn in Granby, CT for four nights in July 2011. This is a return stay because we were there for four nights in October 2009. The InnKeepers,Bill and Nancy, are marvelous,amiable,cordial,easy-going, flexible,delightful,down to earth,simply wonderful hosts. Nancy offers a variety of breakfast choices, all extremely garden fresh from either her yard or a local farmer. Fresh and healthy is the style of breakfast, volume is plenty. Granby, CT is located in Northern CT where one can have a day trip to RI, MA,VT,NY,NH. And, of course, there is so much to do in CT. Bill and Nancy have travel books available to seek out if you are undecided. Or, simply ask Bill. He is a wealth of information on where to visit for a day trip and what is available around the New England area as well as his own CT. The mattresses on the beds are SO COMFORTABLE. I'm not good traveling sleeper, but I can sure sleep soundly and well on the beds at this Inn. Give this Dutch Iris Inn a chance and you will return over and over again. It's delightful! Stayed here for a few days while I was in town for a wedding, and was my first B&B experience. Didn't really have many special requests but Nancy & Bill were happy to help with directions when I needed it. Bill was a great host in the morning and Nancy makes some killer blueberry wheat pancakes and bacon! Located in the quiet village of Granby,Connecticut, the Dutch Iris Inn is a polished gem of a Bed and Breakfast. Meticulously restored and furnished, the Inn is a tasteful model of turn of the century living. Each individual room, of which there are six, has it's own unique features and character. When I checked in on Sat. afternoon I was greeted by the most two wonderful people. The place was spotless and my room was cozy, cute and comfortable. I did not rate the dining because I wasn't there for any meals but the buzz around town was that the food is amazing and they will make something special for you if you have special diet needs. My sister and I stayed for one night in the Dutch Iris Inn. The incredible hospitality of innkeepers Nancy and Bill welcomed us from the moment we entered--fire in the fireplace, oatmeal chocolate chunk cookies and tea/hot chocolate to greet us...what a perfect start to a perfect experience! Nancy showed us around, highlighting some of the history of the inn, and s us to showed us to our 2nd floor room. It had a super-comfortable king-sized bed, fireplace and small but decent bathroom made this a great home-away-from-home. Two sets of earplugs were left for us, since our room fronts the main road, but the nighttime noise on this country road was minimal. Our room had a TV with cable, and the inn has internet access for those who must stay connected. Nancy showed us the menu book that she's put together, showing just about every eating establishment's menu within a 30 minute drive. (There are restaurants right in Granby if you want to stay local). My sister and I chose to drive to Northampton MA, about 30 minutes away ,and Nancy gave us directions and dinner suggestions since she was familiar. (She grew up in Simsbury so is a native of the area). However, if you plan ahead, there's lots to do in the day/evening within easy driving distance--local plays, music, etc.--so you can stay as local as you'd like. Soon after we arrived, Nancy asked if there were any dietary restrictions and I explained my quirky needs. She plans each meal a day ahead and takes the guests' needs into consideration (although there are always substitute items available for guests who don't want the special entree she's serving). Breakfast was wonderful—juice, blueberry soup to start, a marvelous baked breakfast burrito (mine was made specially to my dietary needs), a bit of fruit, and many coffee/tea selections to accompany our meal. We look forward to going back again. I'll stick with a room with a king-sized bed, maybe opting for the room with a jetted tub next time.

This was a great place to stay during a snowstorm. We had everything we might need, including coffee, tea and a newspaper on demand. The hosts were friendly and helpful, the bed was comfortable and the food was plentiful and delicious. Being an old home, the floor in our room slanted quite a lot, and there was peeling wallpaper, but everything was clean and well-cared-for. We plan to stay there again.

The overall experience was pleasant and the innkeepers are delightful people that make their home your home. Nancy is an excellent cook - each breakfast was a lovely surprise. The Mary Edwards room was overall very small so it was tight quarters. More than one person would be difficult to move around. It had no flat surface, especially needed near the sink and no chair because there was no room for a chair.

While the size of the room cannot change (it's too bad they weren't thinking "B&B" back in 1812!), we are certainly able to improve the surface space available. It is a perfect room for a single person, or for a couple on a budget who doesn't plan to spend a lot of time in their room (attending a wedding, visiting family, etc.). ...and remember, the common areas of the inn provide extra space and comfort for all of our guests.

The inn has a country feel, but it is located in an area where there are things to do and the neighborhood pub or other small stores are a nice easy walk from the inn.

We checked in at 11 pm, and as agreed there was a note on the front door with instructions. Home baked cookies were available in the "lobby". Very good breakfast and friendly house owners. Highly recommended.

We spent 1 night in the Chickering room at the Dutch Iris Inn. The room was fantastic - spacious, beautifully decorated without being over the top, a large jacuzzi tub, and a comfortable king sized bed. Homemade hot chocolate and cookies were available on our arrival. The bathroom was an addition and is a bit drafty, but there is an overhead heat vent to compensate for this. The owners are friendly and helpful without being pushy in any way, and the inn is located withing walking distance of several restaurants (we ate at the Good Life Grill, which is cozy and had decent food). Overall, a wonderful visit. One of the best bed and breakfasts I have stayed in.

My boyfriend and I stayed for one night for our 2 year anniversary. The house is yellow with a huge backyard, koi pond, and outside furniture so you can sit on the porch. (It's like something out of a New England magazine). It has antique furniture and great decor on the inside. Nancy greeted us and gave us a tour of the house. She can make recommendations as to what to do in the area or restaurants. It's great that they have a guest refrigerator just in case you need a bottle of water. Each room is so amazing and has its own unique features. The breakfast was delicious - the cinnamon rolls were wonderful. The Granby/Simsbury area is really nice. We went to Abigails in Simsbury and had a nice dinner and had drinks art Cambridge Ale House afterwards. If it is cold enough, definitely use the fireplace in your room. It feels like a home away from home. Thanks to Nancy and Bill for a great stay!

An excellent bed and breakfast. Very clean inside and outside. The owners are very friendly and the food was delicious. I never ate quiche in my life until I stayed here. Looking forward to staying here again.

A beautiful historic inn where the inkeepers have paid tremendous attention to the details. We felt welcome and well cared for, the room was comfortable, the bed was wonderful, the food absolutely terrific. We'll definitely be back!

We had a super, relaxing, and happy stay at the Dutch Irish. The room was quiet and the small touches were fantastic. We enjoyed every minute!

Great people, great place, great food and a very relaxing place. My wife and I stayed for a night at this B&B and it was one of the best I have ever stayed at. The rooms were wonderful and well done. The food was to die for. And best of all Nancy and Bill were just wonderful to spend time with. There is no doubt in our minds we would return if we are in the area.

Charming place with wonderful hospitality. Ask for a back room, if road traffic bothers you.

There was such a relaxed atmosphere from the moment we walked in the door. We felt very comfortable in our room as well as in the rest of the house and on the propery. The food was amazing! Hospitality was unbeatable. The inn keepers where very helpful in deciding things to do, where to have dinner and always there with a friendly smile. We really felt that anything we wanted was either already there, or could be arranged.

The hospitality was superb. The owners were helpful, polite and engaging. I would love to visit again.

In an attempt to be brief: Two wonderful people who dote over you. Breakfasts to die for. Clean rooms with very comfortable beds New England B&B at it's best. The thickest towels and wash clothes on the planet. With all the old New England ambience, food, comfort, and positively two of the sweetest people we have ever had the pleasure to meet, why in the world would you want to stay anywhere else?
