Elias Child House B&B

  • Inn Details

Located in West Woodstock on a quiet road, Elias Child House is a magnificent center hall 18th century colonial structure containing 9 rooms with a fireplace in every room. MaryBeth and Tony relocated here from their previous B&B, Maple Hill Farm in Coventry, CT. Each bed chamber has a private bath, working fireplace and air conditioning. The property consists of 47 acres, primarily wooded, with hiking or cross country skiing trails. Depending on the season, one may opt to enjoy the in-ground pool, the patio, the screened porch, the walking trails or a hearth cooking demonstration and feast. Or guests may choose to simply relax in an Adirondack chair near the rock garden. Relaxing massage or a Reiki session is available by special arrangement. A full country breakfast is served hearthside in the cheerful dining room, accompanied by classical music.

My sisters and I took our mother to Elias Child House B & B to celebrate her 75th birthday. Owners Mary Beth and Tony were so accomodating and eager to make the occasion special for us. The home was built in the 1700's and has plenty of antiques and characteristics of that period, mingled with family heirlooms and whimsical touches that make you feel cozy and at home. You are actually sharing the Felice's living space - dining area, keeping room, sitting room etc. and they are a warm and genuine couple with wonderful stories (and jokes)to share Their puppy Nell is lots of fun too! Our room had everything we needed for a relaxing night of girl talk and pampering- many special touches like fresh flowers and Dove chocolates, thick terry robes, extra quilts on the foot of each bed and luxurious supplies for pampering in the claw foot tub. The hearth dinner experience was delicious and terrific! Being able to help prepare the meal as in the 1700's - cooked over the fire and in a beehive oven, was very special. Mary Beth and Tony shared just the right amount of history during the meal to make it interesting. After dinner our mother received a personaized birthday card, made by Tony, describing the meal and a bit about the B&B. Mary Beth baked a lavendar cake with homemade whipped cream and nutmeg and we sang happy birthday - a perfect ending to the evening. Mom was thrilled!! A FULL Breakfast is served at your chosen time along with a delicious homemade bread and fruit dish that all guests enjoyed. This was presented on heirloom china - on a charmingly set table. I would certainly recommend this B & B to anyone who enjoys the true Bed and Breakfast experience with friendly people, a charming colonial home, delicious food and stories to share. We are looking forward to visiting again in the warmer weather so we can take advantage of the trails, pool and screen porch at Elias Child.

We have been in B&B's in many places within the US and in Europe since 1987, and this was the best experience we have had. Rooms great, ambiance perfect, hosts outstanding and if you get a chance, make sure you include a hearth side dinner as part of your stay. Bob & Claire - Colorado

Very nice historic house. My husband and stayed here a few years ago and have recommended it to others. We still talk about the homemade muffins with lavender. The old very large fireplace that is used for hearth cooking is amazing. The grounds are beautiful.
