Away from town and well named,Country Sunshine. We love hummingbirds and were surrounded by them as well as many other species of birds. The hosts were extremely pleasant. The whole experience was worth the price.

This place is the best. We stayed for 5 days the summer of 2013. Walter and Jodie are great hosts and make you feel so at home. The breakfasts and the desserts were outstanding! We loved it so much that we are going back for Christmas 2013. Felt like home!

This is our third stay and we feel like regulars, even tho we know of others that have stayed many more times. there is ample property to roam, hot tub is great as told by others staying here. Walters breakfasts are a delight and evening desserts are rich and sooooooo good. Our stay has been always in September, so we have near perfect weather on our stays. Hard to say anything better than those who have given Jodi and Walter such good reviews that are so deserved we feel. We will stay again on our next trip back to this beautiful country.

We stayed here due to close proximity to my daughter's residence prior tk her wedding, and for it's beautiful grounds and peaceful atmosphere. We had a very enjoyable stay, with excellent breakfast out on the deck by Walter, free wine and beer, hot tub, chocolate chip cookies and a dessert every evening. Jody and Walter are very hospitable, friendly, while respecting your privacy.

We stayed at the Country Sunshine B&B Inn only for one night. All was fine. Hospitality and cleanliness are very good. Wifi worked well. The B&B is a 10 minutes drive away from Durango. But a very lovely place in the middle of the countryside. Drinks (water, beer, wine) are offered for free. They have a very nice cat and dog. So cute. All in all we would highly recommend this house and would like to come again.

Outstanding in every way, Country Sunshine is the perfect place to enjoy mountain views, wonderful breakfasts and killer desserts, pleasant company, and comfortable, attractive rooms. The hosts make it all perfect for their guests - and the birdwatching from the deck is an added plus. Try them once, and you'll be anxious for your next visit with Jodi and Walter at Country Sunshine.

Walter & Jodi are exceptional hosts! Felt so welcomed as soon as we came thru the door! Even Anya the dog was so very sweet! Walter is such a talented cook! Made the most delicious desserts every night which was a very rare treat in a B&B. usually others only supply cookies. Here we were treated to a delicious chocolate torte! Plan to return! This place is awesome!

During our 10 day vacation we stayed at 7 places and this was, definitely, the best. The hummingbirds came right up to you and the food was superb.

This is a very special bed and breakfast run by very special people. Jodi and Walter are great hosts and Mira, Jenny, and Megan were very helpful.

Our stay at Country Sunshine Bed and Breakfast was outstanding. The food was wonderful, beautiful room, and gracious hosts.

Made to feel right at home from the moment we stepped over the doorstep, Jodi, Walter and their staff made Vanessa and I very welcome and put at ease (which is not always the case with small personal B&B's). Walter's enthusiasm for providing beautiful breakfasts and deserts was evident, in fact my wife wanted to swop him for me, the deserts were so original and tasty., the rooms were clean, well equipped and also had their own distinctive style, the B&B is a short distance from Durango, but we were provided with information regarding the local restaurants etc. I would recommend Country Sunshine to anyone who want a home from home experience in lovely surroundings with genuinely friendly and helpful people. This is a wonderful getaway bed and breakfast. The setting is spectacular and so peaceful. Our hosts were very friendly and Walter is an amazing cook. What great breakfasts! We were a little concerned that dinner would be a problem as it is 10 miles from Durango but there are several nice little eating places close by. We only stayed one night. Next time it will definitely be longer!

We stayed at Country Sunshine in August 2013, just for an overnight stop en-route to Aztec and Monument Valley. Absolutely delightful, great welcome, everything spotlessly clean, delicious breakfast, and a chocolate torte for evening dessert which was so good we just had to have the recipe. Thanks to Walter and Jodi for a memorable stay and such great value. Perfect!

This was our first time at Country Sunshine, but it will not be our last! Walter & Jodi are wonderful hosts! Walter's cooking is heavenly (& healthy)! We really enjoyed it and have already booked another weekend with them.

In addition to some delicious breakfasts Walter at Country Sunshine offers some killer deserts. These were just the thing to top off a day of exploring SW Colorado. The chocolate torte was exceptional

Walter and Jodi are wonderful hosts. Walter's breakfasts are outstanding and served on their lovely deck. In addition to breakfasts, he makes delicious cookies fresh each day and provides wine and beer in the fridge downstairs. They have menus from area restaurants and will recommend those they have personally sampled. There are also numerous activities and adventures in the Durango area and beyond. This was our second visit to the Country Sunshine B & B and we will be back. We highly recommend this delightful charmer.

Our family enjoyed our stay at Country sunshine and our daughter was happy with your lovely dog, the hummingbirds, the cat, the environment, the food ;). Wonderful b & b an absolutely recommended. Thanks to Jodi and Walter from Christian, Sabine and Nele

A great B&B, where the food is great, the rooms comfy, and the hosts are great. It was so nice to be in the country where it was quiet (except for those hummingbirds zooming around!). And Walter's cooking was an extra plus. Everything he made was delicious, Jodi & Walter make this a wonderful place to visit. Hope we can go back someday.

In years of travelling we have never felt so welcome and so much at ease as we did with Walter, Jodi, Norma (and Anya!). They are wonderful hosts, full of helpful suggestions and willing providers of complimentary freshly baked cookies, fruit, wine, beer, sodas and much more! Walter is a superb cook. The breakfasts are wonderful and the complimentary evening desserts are out of this world! Our Riverview Room was very comfortable. The B&B's setting in beautiful countryside outside Durango is peaceful and relaxing. The grounds are wonderful, the wildlife (especially the feeding birds) is entrancing and the hot tub is hugely enjoyable. As already mentioned, Walter and Jodi provide excellent advice on places to eat, places to hike etc. and they very helpfully booked us reservations on the train from Rockwood, improving our journey a great deal. This was our second fly drive holiday to the USA. When I plan the third it will have to pass through Durango so that we can stay in Country Sunshine again!
5 on August 18, 2013
Walter & Jodi are wonderful hosts who have thought of everything their guests might need. The food is wonderful and plentiful (there are cookies and fruit, as well as beverages available 24/7; the evening desserts are absolutely delicious. The hosts provide shoes, towels, and robes (in the room) for guests who want to enjoy the hot tub. We stayed in the Pine Room on the main floor. The room was very clean, and even when grass was tracked in one night, I noticed there wasn’t a blade to be found the next day. The king bed and daybed were quite comfortable. The room has a window a/c unit which wasn’t really needed, but we chose to run to drown out the noise from outside and in the dining room. (We have a child and retired early; with the a/c running we could hear the mumble of guests outside our window and when they entered the house.) The room has a refrigerator which came in handy for snacks we brought. There were bath robes in the closet as well as a hair dryer which were nice touches. Some B&B’s have a problem with not enough hot water or low water pressure in the shower – not Country Sunshine! The two “negatives” about the room, which weren’t a real big deal: there isn’t a dresser, nor enough hangers for 3 people, and there is a small CRT TV (not a big deal if you don’t want to watch TV – but with a young child, you might want to do so.) There IS a desk with some shallow drawers, but not enough to store clothing for 3 people. Also, as an FYI: there is WIFI available. Walter and Jodi have created an area to highlight local attractions. Not only do they have tons of brochures, but they also have menus from the local restaurants. They will even suggest restaurants and/or activities if you are overwhelmed by the choices. My favorite thing: the chocolate tort. My 9 y.o. daughter’s favorite thing: the hot tub. My husband’s favorite thing: the beautiful, peaceful grounds.

Look around the internet. You'll find phenomenal reviews of Country Sunshine B&B, but it's only after you stay there that you realize how truly a wonderful place it really is. Walter, Jodi, and the entire staff made our stay the highlight of a 2 week western vacation. Five minutes after you meet them, you'll feel like you're staying with old friends. Walter's meals are scrumptious, and, as others have noted, the nightly desserts and constant supply of his home-baked chocolate chip cookies are simply...icing on the cake. My family thought our trip to Durango would probably be a once in a life-time experience. Now we've started looking for excuses to go back just to enjoy the hospitality of the folks at Country Sunshine.
4.2 on August 06, 2013
I wish we could have stayed longer. This B & B is in a very peaceful location and I enjoyed watching all the birds, especially the hummingbirds that visited the feeders. The breakfasts the two mornings we were there were the best I've had, and there were wonderful desserts each evening as well. The desserts gave all the people staying there a chance to meet and visit with the other guests. We had the option of eating either inside or on the big deck. My only complaints were that the mattress needed to be replaced as it was way too soft and there were indentations on each side--it was impossible to sleep in the middle of the bed because it was higher. We also had a room in the lower level which was not air conditioned and it was a bit warm--a fan would have been nice. I would definitely recommend Country Sunshine to anyone staying in the Durango area and I would love to return.
5 on August 05, 2013
This place was heavenly! The grounds are totally gorgeous, peaceful, and serene...with hammocks and wooden benches/chairs everywhere. There's also a lovely jacuzzi set among the flowers and near a fountain. I loved reading my book in the hammock while the sun set. The room was lovely and the bed was super comfy. Jodi was generous enough to upgrade us to a nicer room because it was empty that night...and she did it free of charge! I can't say enough about the food. Walter is an amazing cook, and he whipped up a delicious gluten and egg-free meal for my husband. We forgot to tell them ahead of time about my husband's allergies, but it didn't phase Walter at all. The breakfast he made was to die for. I highly recommend this place and will definitely be going back!
5 on August 04, 2013
This place is a delight! Wonderful surroundings, the owners were too kind and the service was excellent. We recommend this place to everybody and if we're ever back in Durango, we will definately stay here again!
5 on August 03, 2013
We have stayed at many B&B facilities. Honestly, this one tops them all and it's very affordable. Walter (owner/chef) serves you an elegant breakfast on the 2nd story patio in the AM. During the day, snacks such as cookies as well as soft drinks, beer and wine are available. In the evening, Walter serves one of his delightful and unique deserts. The hospitality extended by Walter and Jodi goes above and beyond anything one would expect.

My husband and I recently spent a wonderful 5 nights of our honeymoon at Country Sunshine. We couldn't be happier with our decision. Country Sunshine is such a peaceful, relaxing and special place, but what warmed up our hearts even more was the kindness and hospitality shown to us by Walter, Jodi, Kristyn and others. We, along with several other guests, spent one lovely evening around the fire pit. While my husband and I played some tunes on guitar and drums, Walter and Jodi brought us all delicious desserts. Walter even set up his awesome Teepee for us in case we wanted to play music in there as well! It was so fun! They take such good care of their property. It's really beautiful. The hot tub and hammocks are so relaxing. The food is delicious and unique. We could go on and on. This is a special place, with kind, genuine and thoughtful owners. We will most definitely return for another visit! -Amber & Justan (Phoenix)

We sent our daughtewr and son in law for their honeymoon and they ranted and raved about how great their stay was.
5 on July 30, 2013
We stayed at the Country Sunshine this past month as a "babymoon" for my wife and I. We have stayed here a number of times before and have tried different rooms each time. We booked the Golden Oaks room this time and it was fantastic. Plenty of room to relax and nice & quiet because it is the only room on that end of the house. The food and service from Walter and Jodi is top notch! They are always so welcoming and enjoyable to see. We're already talking about doing a family reunion at the Country Sunshine and book the whole place. Yes people - the Country Sunshine is that good!
5 on July 29, 2013
Walter and Jodi have thought of everything you could need to enjoy your stay and feel at home. They are very helpful with dining and hiking recommendations, and have even provided a refrigerator full of local beer and wine. Rooms are clean and comfortable. The grounds are well kept and there are areas to relax, walk, and even bird watch. I've never seen so many hummingbirds! It was amazing. Though the facility is delightful, the food is even better. The breakfast and dessert can not be beat. Sitting on the deck, looking at the mountains, eating fresh baked dessert or freshly made breakfast is very memorable. This was my second visit and I'll be back!
4.8 on July 26, 2013
The only reason I gave "only" four stars for the dining is because, even though the food was absolutely delicious, and dessert every evening was entirely unexpected, the breakfasts we had on our four days there were definitely not low calorie or low fat. Every dish was beautifully prepared and presented, but my wife ended up giving much of her breakfast to me, and then was hungry fairly soon after that. A pretty minor complaint, I know. Jodi and Walter are so kind and hospitable, we didn't want to leave. We will DEFINITELY be back.
5 on July 25, 2013
If I could rate Country Sunshine Bed and Breakfast 6 stars I would. Our hosts Walter and Jodi make you feel like you are in your own home. The breakfasts and desserts made by Walter are primo - outstanding. Let's not forget the fresh made cookies made daily. The other guests staying at the B&B with you soon become like old friends. This was our second visit to this B&B and the second time was even a better experience than the first and we never thought that possible. We will be back for a third visit very soon. Wonderful and peaceful place, very quiet and clean. In the evening the owners serve usually a sweet, a real treat! The owners are very kind and helpful and it's a pleasure to meet with other people of the B&B: Laura and Alberto

(A little Gomer Pyle humor) Had a wonderfully relaxing and enjoyable stay w/ Walter, Jodi and Anya. We will be returning to this beautiful location and friendly atmosphere again. The breakfasts were fantastic, we couldn't eat enough "baked from scratch" cookies and the saddest night was the last, when we stayed later in town and missed the desert. Quentin, Charlotte, Chuck & Barb.
5 on July 16, 2013
The Jodi and Walter are wonderful and provide so many amenities that make you feel right at home. Breakfasts were delicious, and Walter's nightly desserts were amazing! The dining recommendations were great, too (lunch at the ranch down the road is a must - the best veggie and beef burgers). This is one of the top bed and breakfasts I have ever experienced, and I wish I had stayed longer than two nights.
5 on July 15, 2013
It was wonderful, as usual! It was our sixth time to stay there, if that tells you anything. :)
4.8 on July 14, 2013
My husband and I spent three nights here and loved every minute of it! It is far enough out of Durango to avoid the traffic and give you the feel of the country and yet convenient to several good places to eat. We stayed in the Golden Oaks room and it was very comfortable and roomy. The breakfasts and desserts in the evenings are to die for! The innkeepers go out of their way to make sure that you have everything you need and are very knowledgable about the surrounding area. If you are interested in birds, the feeders provide excellent viewing opportunities. And oh yeah, Walter's cookies are amazing!
5 on July 14, 2013
Sorry Jodi, every B&B should have a 'Jodi and a Walter' but it made for a catchier title ! Well what more can be said about Country Sunshine that has not already been covered in other reviews? It was through On line reviews that we found this B&B and having taken on board all of the reviews it was the obvious Durango choice. It is situated in a beautiful location out of town and off the main highway which means peace and quiet. The rooms are spacious and well equipped with beautiful furnishings. The extras they provide are a lovely touch these include a fridge with wine, beer and soft drinks as well as tea, coffee, cookies, popcorn and candies, . All of the staff that we encountered during our stay were wonderful, engaging and helpful throughout. Now the secret weapon that Country Sunshine possesses - Walter and his incredible evening desserts, he tells you to save room for one on your return after your evening meal and they were delicious, my favourite was the 'Avocado and Chocolate Cake' which was what can only be described as SCRUMPTIOUS. I almost forgot to mention the breakfasts all of which we loved. They are served on an attractive deck overlooking the trees which are laden with bird feeders which attract many of the local bird population. Country Sunshine we would recommend it to anyone. All the staff we met at the Country Sunshine B&B were amazing, helpful and pleasant nothing was a trouble to them during our stay, Jodi and Walter have something special going on here near Durango, Colorado. The rooms are large and well furnished and the added extras make the stay all the more pleasant. The guests are provided with access to a fridge stocked with wine, beer, soft drinks and water but it is Walter's home made desserts that take the top prize they were amazing, he serves them once you have returned home for the night. The breakfasts are also a work of art again created by Walter. The location is excellent for those wanting peace and quiet, only a few miles out of town set off the main highway tranquility itself. Country Sunshine B&B is up there with the best of them !
5 on June 30, 2013
This is hands down the best B&B you'll ever stay at. The hosts were delightful, the views were breathtaking, the food was delicious, and our stay was just magical. THANK YOU Walter and Jodi for everything!!!! Our honeymoon was perfect thanks to you two!!! :)

This is our 4th year going thru Durango & staying here. We wouldn't go anywhere else. Walter & Jodi are fantastic, they feel like close friends. Their place is beautiful. Not a bad room in the house. Walter is an amazing cook. His wonderful breakfast out on the deck where you can watch the birds feed & scwabble & hear the rushing river not far away. He can identify every bird if you're interested. Couldn't recommend more highly. It's the best!Oh, mustn't forget those homemade cookies always available & exotic desserts he fixes every night.

Our stay at the Country Sunshine B & B was wonderful. The facilities were excellent, and our hosts were friendly and helpful. I've traveled to many places and stayed in a variety of hotels, motels, and B&B--this is one of the best places I've ever stayed. Do not miss dessert or breakfast; they are both delicious.

We were totally satisfied with all our accommodations. The staff are friendly, helpful, and personable. Breakfast was exceptional as were the evening desserts, a first in all our B&B stays.

We stayed in the Columbine Room of Country Sunshine last weekend and the whole experience was amazing. The room was so cute and comfortable and the breakfast and dessert were both really delicious. Our hosts were extremely accomodating, getting up earlier than they would have normally to serve us breakfast before we caught the train to Silverton. I was really pleased to find that recipes of meals served at Country Sunshine were available for guests to take. Staying here was not only quite fun but a great deal as well. We would definitely recommend it.

We stayed over the memorial day weekend and were delighted with our choice. We stayed in the pine room which is on the ground level and has its own fridge and was very comfortable. You never go hungry, there are always biscuits, fruit and sweets set out (not just at 4pm like some places). In the large fridge downstairs are beer and wine for the guests. Every evening Walter makes a desert for his guests. The breakfast time is individually cooked and Walter caters for vegetarians. Unlike many B & B's you do not have to specify the night before what time you want breakfast. The property is about 12 miles N of Durango on the road to Silverton and was easy to get to. We ate in the local golf course restaurant on a night we did not want to drive into Durango Stayed May 2013, travelled with family

This was our first B&B experience and I found the room to be pleasant and comfortable (like staying with my dear aunt and uncle) but the breakfasts blew my mind and exceeded my expectations. The evening desserts and afternoon cookies were also phenomenal and the hosts were engaging and fun to get to know without being overbearing. Everything they recommended (restaurants, activities, etc) was also excellent and I appreciated their advice and thoughtful suggestions. We will be back (or at least I hope so)!

This was our second stay at Country Sunshine. Our first experience was so fantastic, we chose the B&B as a get together place to celebrate my sister's 50th birthday. It was a great experience. One of the best touches was the morning Anya delivered a birthday card to my sister during breakfast. It was perfect! Thank you Walter & Jodi for a great week-end!! Stacey Becker

Walter & Jodi really care about their guests. We have stayed in a few B&B's in the U.S. and many in Ireland so we have experiences to compare it to. This B&B has the best views, the cleanest rooms, unparalleled food, and interesting guests. Somehow, Walter & Jodi have been able to make you feel like it truly is a home away from home--only better! You feel like you are with extended family while there. The location is great whether you wish to go skiing up the road or golfing and shopping the other direction into Durango. Our entire family loves this place. Jodi suggested a family reunion there, and I agree that it would be the perfect place. We look forward to our next return.

Walter and Jodi are amazing hosts! Walter is a World Class chef and not only are his breakfasts out of this World he makes dessert every evening as well. I'm not talking about serving up ice cream and cake....Home made rum cake, flourless chocolate cake, lemon tart.....There is also a well stocked fridge for guest use. Full of water, sodas, and even numerous selections from the local brewing company. The grounds are beautiful, well maintained and inviting. The rooms (at least ours) was very large and decorated beautifully. You will not find a better value, better food, or more hospitable place and people anywhere in Durango! Chris Jackson

Everything one could want in a BnB--beautiful setting, tastefully decorated, comfy beds, and five star breakfasts. Best of all, the hosts, Walter and Jodi, clearly love what they do and go out of their way to make their guests feel welcome.

We had planned to stay only one night but surrendered to the luxury of Country Sunshine and stayed two .... we really want to move in. The food was first class. This couple are very skilled at balancing friendliness and attention with granting privacy. The rooms are very special and we loved the hot tub in the snow. Really, we just could not bring ourselves to "move on" as planned. We will be back very soon.

From the room and atmosphere, to the food and service, Walter and Jodi have made their home a gem to stay in. Our room, the Golden Oaks, was comfortable and intimate, the food, including the presentation, was very good and very tasty, and their desire to help and offer advice in any way while not going over the top was very welcome. What puts this place over the top for us was their 24 hour offering of a variety of beverages, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, as well as fresh cookies setting out for the late night munchies, including an evening special dessert prepared daily. This makes CS B&B unique from all others based on my experiences and research, and will make it a port of call once again when in the area. Thank you!

Jodi and Walter are PERFECT hosts, they run a PERFECT B&B... everyone I have ever met at Country Sunshine says the exact same thing - that this B&B TOPS THE LIST OF B&B's (not kidding). We love visiting and always have such a lovely time. Walter makes the very best breakfasts & chocolate chip cookies... and we won't even begin to tell you how delicious his desserts are (such a nice excuse to sit and visit the other guests and make fast friends)... We have been to many B&B's, but Country Sunshine is our VERY FAVORITE !

This must be the best B and B anywhere.Walter and Jodi are wonderful hosts and seem to have thought of everything including giving me a recipe to cure cramp (and it worked) This was our third visit to this magnificent B and B Ron and Carole Martin Northampton England UK

All the previous high ratings were well-deserved. The food and cheerful helpfulness of our hosts were marvelous.

Walter and Jodi were remarkable innkeepers making sure all their guest were comfortable by giving them their personal attention. The food was 5 star rated and Walter met any dietary requests. I noticed that other guest were “repeat” customers, confirming that Country Sunshine Bed & Breakfast is an outstanding B&B.

This Inn was the highlight of our journey. There were others that were more elaborate and fancy, and some were located in the heart of towns where we could walk to everything, but none had the charm, or warmth of Country Sunshine. The host (Walter) bends over backwards to ensure his guests are treated well. My wife has both Gluten and dairy allergies. He \made her a special breakfast to meet her needs. Normally, we see an Inn as a bedroom and nothing more. But at Country Sunshine, we felt like we were at home and could stretch our legs, relax and enjoy the Inn as much as any other part of our journey. We will return and spend mre time there.

Walter and Jodi are wonderful, enhancing the bed and breakfast experience with delicious full breakfasts, homemade cookies available all day, dessert served at your convenience in the evenings, bath towels/bath shoes for use of the hot tub, and even wine and beer for guests. Their knowledge of the local area, both its natural surroundings and local restaurants, is invaluable. We definitely hope to return!

This is the 5th time we have stayed at this B&B and as usual, it was wonderful. Jodi and Walter are so nice. Walter is a superb cook - both his breakfasts and his nightly desert. I definitely recommend staying here. The best B&B in the Durango area.

Walter & Jodi were wonderful host, the location was so peaceful, the evening dessert & breakfast were outstanding...we did not want to leave! If we are ever in Durango again, we will definitely want to stay at Country Sunshine.

The property is superb, well-situated and comfortable with a nice deck, easy access and parking, and a great hot tub. The innkeepers are first rate, genuine and dedicated, a plus. Walter is superb in the kitchen, and with his light touch hospitality. The inn is slightly north of Durango, but convenient to all the local attractions, including the train, soaring, rafting, hiking, biking, and the wonderful Durango weather.

Walter and Jodi are pleasant, attentive hosts, provide a lot of little extras, and do gourmet breakfasts and desserts. Great location far enough out of town to be scenic but close enough to do restaurants and other attractions.

This was our second time to stay at CSB&B! And we only go back to places we love! Thanks Walter & Jodi for a wonderful, relaxing vacation! I just love the bed in the Writer's Den....so comfortable! I've shared the Flourless Chocolate Cake w/ Carmel Sauce (gluten-free) with my daughter-in-law & can't wait to make it at Thanksgiving! We'll send that picture we took of all of you, including the dogs! Oh & if D & G from Victoria, TX, are reading this, give us a call! You meet the nicest people at CSB&B! Thanks, A & C from Austin.

Country Sunshine exceeded our expectations in every way. Walter and Jodi made us feel welcome and at home immediately. The room was clean and larger than expected with a private bathroom. Soap, shampoo, lotion, conditioner and lip balm were provided. The setting is beautiful and peaceful, with many birds and chipmunks to view from the wonderful wrap around deck. There were several seating areas and hammocks outside by the river, along with a firepit and hot tub. Towels and shoes were provided for hot tub use and robes in the room. They have 2 dogs and a cat to help fill the pet fix for those traveling without their pets. The home has several seating areas with a TV and a beautiful, large stone fireplace. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, spiced cider are provided on the main level, and downstairs there's water, soft drinks, beer and wine. The setting and accommodations were outstanding but the food was even better! There were homemade cookies out and every evening a different gourmet dessert was available. White chocolate mousse with a tart cherry sauce and pumpkin tort for our two nights. Both were worthy of being served in any upscale, gourmet restaurant. That being said, the breakfasts were even more amazing. Pecan pancakes, fresh fruit cups, and sweet potato waffles along with sausage and bacon were delicious. The guests were still raving about the potato pancakes from the morning we arrived. And the topper is that Walter provides copies of his recipes, along with maps and info about area attractions. Country Sunshine is a great value for all that is provided along with two of the nicest people you'll want to meet.

Our visit was in mid September when the aspens were turning to gold and orange with specks of red.The atmosphere was warm and hospitality unsurpassed. The breakfasts were meticulous in presentation and even better in taste. Owners/ hosts Jodi and Walter should be used as examples to be studied by colleges of hospitality if they want to educate students about what really excellent hospitality is in practice. White and red wine available 24/7 as was beer, tea and fresh ground coffee. The beds were comfortable and the view from the writer's den window like a storybook setting with Walter filling the bird feeders early in the morning, the purple feathered western jays, raspberry finches and huge black and white birds eager to display their wings. A very magical setting for hikers, bikers and just tourists like us. The scenery outside their door/window should be in a guidebook for all to see. Valentina

The setting and property are both beautiful and peaceful, a very nice respite from everyday life. Our room was comfortable and spacious with all amenities provided. The food was outstanding with lovely presentation --- don't miss Walter's wonderful desserts in the evening! The hosts are amazingly gracious and professional --- and their pets only added to the charm. We had a lovely stay and will return on our next trip through Durango

Our family of four stayed 3 nights and we sure were glad we did! What a delight to anticipate Walter’s superb breakfasts, and then more anticipation over his evening desserts. To top it all off, Walter and Jody share their recipes (copies provided in a notebook). This was a real treat for the cook in our family. The accommodations here are outstanding, especially in light of the reasonable room rates. Our room was comfortable with a beautiful view. We especially enjoyed the common areas, including the selection of DVD’s in the TV lounge, and the piano and guitar (my older son appreciated these). Meals could be eaten inside or out, with other guests or on your own. The house with all its creature comforts certainly provided a casual, “at-home” experience. Walter and Jody are “naturals” for being cordial hosts. They were so accommodating, even baking “no nut” cookies and an individual cheesecake for our younger son who has a peanut allergy. Walter also gave us a tip for a beautiful hike to a lake, with the trailhead about 20 minutes away by car. He includes maps and other info in the guest notebook. If you are birdwatchers like we are, this is heaven for you! We were so delighted by the time spent watching the multiple kinds of birds feeding at the feeders in the nearby trees. My younger son became a Colorado bird “expert” in minutes with Walter’s kind guidance. We look forward to that “someday” when a return visit to Colorado will take us back to Durango. We’ll stay here for sure!

Our experience at this B&B was beyond our expectations. The hospitatlity was spectacular. It was like leaving our house and going to stay with some good friends. We were provided with everything that we would've been expected to forget to bring. Snacks for our daily adventures, an after dinner desert or drinks. Great people to share stories of our adventures with and advice on local cusine.

Country Sunshine rates right at the top of all the B&Bs we've experienced. Lots of amenities to go with comfortable rooms and surroundings. The owner goes out of his way to make your stay as enjoyable as possible and prepares some tasty dishes, including a late evening dessert. The lemon tart was outstanding.

My husband and I recently had an opportunity to spend our honeymoon at Country Sunshine and we plan to make a return trip an annual experience! The location is just far enough from town to enhance your experience of the oasis that it is. Jodi and Walter are beautiful people who went above and beyond from sun-up to sun-down to ensure that every guest was being pampered and well taken care of. The food was divine, the atmosphere and grounds were inviting and relaxing, and the small staff welcoming and completely focused on the needs of the guests. We would absolutely recomend (and already have done so) a stay at Country Sunshine to all friends and family!

Hailing from Boston, it can be hard to arrange accommodations in the Southwest, despite all the "help" from the web! I'm writing to testify, however, that we made a wonderful choice in staying at Country Sunshine B&B in Durango, CO. Though not cheap, this place is lovely and the beautiful grounds, spots to chill and exceptional breakfasts (and evening desserts!) made it totally worthwhile. Hosts Jodi & Walter were great. We'd be back in a second if ever traveling there again.

Hosts provided exceptional friendly service. Plenty of areas available to just sit outside or inside and relax, read a book or play cards with friends. Outside jacuzzi is a delight anytime after a walk, run or short jog to a famous scenic bridge at river a little over a mile from your room. Breakfast was a gourmet delight and an artistic masterpiece worthy of your photograph. We plan to visit in the future whenever in the area.

Searched for a regular hotel room in Durango and not satisfied with what I found. Best thing that ever happened! Searched for a B&B and found Jodi and Walter at "Sunshine". Both wife and I were thrilled with the location, service, comfort and friendliness of hosts and other guests. We only booked two nights. Wish we had more time to spend - a perfect place to relax. A perfect location to visit so many of the "tourist" locations around Durango. Based on the VALUE we received at "Sunshine", I would never consider a hotel in Durango when we make our next visit. Food was outstanding. Make sure you leave room for Walter`s chocolate chip cookies. Cookie and Steve (Tampa, FL)

All the staff is very helpful and friendly. But the best is the food.Walter's warm CCC's greeted us on arrival, the evening dessert is listed on the chalkboard--something to leave room for. Breakfast on the patio with the hummingbirds and other birds is quite a nice time. The food is delicious. Walter even made me a special breakfast due to my dietary restrictions. There are copies of his recipes--I really liked the oatmeal energy breakfast, lemon as well as sweet potato waffles. NNMMMM. Others to come back for! Highly recommended

Country Sunshine is one of the best B&B's I've ever stayed in. It was very clean, the owners are very friendly and helpful, and the breakfasts are delicious. As a special treat, they have a fancy dessert that is served in the evening free of charge. I enjoyed watching the hummingbirds and woodpeckers that they've attracted with their feeders. This is a special place with gracious hosts. When in Durango, visit Country Sunshine..you won't be dissapointed.

We felt like family after only 4 nights...not just guests. Walter's and Jodi's attention to keeping guests satisfied and happy was above and beyond. They didn't miss ANYTHING with regards to hospitality. Breakfasts are superb, as are nightly desserts and the cookies that are available 24 hrs. Bird watching is excellent and binoculars are even offered if you don't have any, as is info about birds sighted. Best B & B we've EVER stayed in (out of many!)!!

Celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary, we were looking for a nice place to stay close to Durango as we looked forward to riding the Blues Train. While the train "jam" was everything we expected, our stay at the Country Sunshine was even better. Jodi and Walter Hammerle have a created a wonderful, away from the everyday rush, experience with all the right touches. Enjoying a comfortable, peaceful, and relaxing morning while watching the birds and enjoying one of Walter's creative breakfasts is a little touch of heaven. But then add one of his delectable desserts in the evening before retiring and the day's experience is perfect. With a variety of rooms and rates to choose from, you can't go wrong by including Country Sunshine on your southwest travel itinerary. -Bruce & Mary Fitts, Littleton, CO-

They provide so many extras for the guests to make you feel at home that you don't want to leave. Walter's breakfasts and desserts are amazing. I think these are the best breakfasts we have ever had. The desserts are a special treat and far exceed anyone's expectations. Our room was delightful and the bed was super comfortable (I usually do not sleep well when away from my own bed). I cannot remember when we both felt so relaxed! This B&B is more like a retreat experience with amazing gourmet breakfasts and we will definitely be back!

This bed and breakfast was wonderful. The couple who owned it were pleasant and eager to please. Every morning we had a scrumptious breakfast prepared by the owner and each evening a gourmet dessert that one could expect from a fine restaurant. There was a fridge full of soft drinks, beer and water. Homemade cookies were available during the day as well as chocolate. A balcony gave a beautiful view of the area and a chance to see lots of birds feeding at the feeders. The other guests were interesting to talk to and it seemed like a family setting. The owner is originally from Austria and was delighted to speak to me in German. He mentioned that what they had at Country Sunshine was gemuetlichkeit, which in English means a friendly, warm atmosphere where people feel at home. He was right! The only thing that was lacking was the shower in our room was a bit small. Overall the experience there was excellent and I would recommend staying there if you are in the Durango area.

If you want the most relaxing experience and welcoming customer service, the Country Sunshine in Durango, CO should be your next destination. Walter and Jodi are the perfect hosts - friendly, but not intrusive. Willing to chat, but not overwhelming. The cookies are as wonderful as everyone says, and the breakfasts are truly delicious. We've stayed in many bed and breakfasts, but this is one of the few that have honestly made us feel as comfortable as staying at a good friend's home.

I visited Country Sunshine B&B early February and it was an awesome home base for exploring Durango and the ski slopes at nearby Purgatory Ski Resort. Walter and Jodi were very accommodating and quickly made their home my home and gave helpful recommendations for places to visit and things to do in Durango. The breakfasts were sumptuous and quite filling and the evening deserts were a centerpiece of discussion with the other guests. I really enjoyed the downstairs den with the fireplace and complimentary beverages to share with other guests as we got to know each other. The rooms were quite clean and comfortable. I will be back to visit the next time I travel to Durango and I recommend this B&B to anyone visiting the Durango area as well.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights as a getaway. Though we didn't do anything nominal or exciting, the stay was exactly what we needed. We were able to truly sit back and relax! There were 5 deer that visited within 10 feet of our room windows, a real wood fireplace in the common area, complimentary beverages, hot tub, incredible evening dessert, as well as very tasty and unique breakfasts. We enjoyed every moment of our stay; the hosts were so open and friendly. We highly recommend Country Sunshine as the perfect getaway!

This Bed and Breakfast far exceeded our expectations. Walter and Jodi are perfect hosts. The food was exceptional. Our room felt like home. very roomy and comfy. Breakfast was over the top delicious. Walters baked goods were exceptional. Everything about our stay was wonderful.

The positive reviews for Walter and Jodi's Country Sunshine Bed and Breakfast are justified and then some. My wife and I had a lovely weekend staying there. Walter and Jodi were very gracious and clearly enjoy what they are doing, which really helps the experience. Walter's breakfasts as well as evening desserts are delicious. Make sure not to save room during dinner. The weather was not ideal for part of our stay but fortunately the B&B is a comfortable place to relax, have a cookie and some tea, and watch the bird feeder outside. They have a small hot tub outside, so don't forget to bring your bathing suite to take full advantage of the facilities. Walter and Jodi have two very friendly dogs and a cat that pretty much stayed downstairs. We were not aware of the cat when we booked the B&B and were a bit concerned because we both are allergic to cats. Fortunately, they keep the place very clean and must have a really good air filter because the cat was never an issue, even during the couple of hours that we spent in the basement. The B&B is located a bit over 10 miles from downtown Durango, which is a small price to pay for the quiet and solitude. Overall, we had a great time and look forward to coming back. Highly recommended!

We look forward to making the 14 hour drive back to Country Sunshine soon.

This is THE best B&B we stayed at during our Canyonlands-Tour. Walter and Jodi's hospitality is almost too good to be true....the breakfast are legendary...as is the dessert that every guest is offered upon returning to this cozy B&B in the evening...something we have never experienced before or after our stay at the Country Sunshine. The black bear right at the entrance of the house was a plus that probably not everyone will get ... but this just goes to proof just how authentic this southern Colorado getaway is. So...search no more..it doesn't get any better than this! Jess & Ralf from Germany

It is impossible to describe the attention to detail that the innkeepers have put into this place within the confines of a short review. There is simply not one small touch they have not thought of. Forgot your bathing suit for the hot tub? No problem! They have some for you to choose from. Want a homemade sweet treat at night? They have decadent desserts hot and ready for you when you walk in the door. The rooms are all lovely-charming, clean and cozy. The grounds are beyond peaceful and beautiful. The breakfasts are gourmet. However, the attention the innkeepers lavish upon their guests make them feel like they are penthouse guests at the Ritz Carlton. Seriously, it is the best B&B I have ever been to and I stay in several different ones all over the country (and internationally) every year. Simply the best! Now, I am just looking for a reason to return to Durango...

We had a great stay at Country Sunshine. We stayed an extra night than we had originally planned, and had a beautiful hike (with lots of colorful aspens to see) recommended in the mountains north of the house, enjoyed the food (tremendously) and also the company of both the hosts (pets included) and other guests. Seeing Walter fend off a black bear while we relaxed in the hot tub was perhaps the high-point of the trip. We will return I'm sure.

My husband and I visited Country Sunshine in late September 2010 and again in October 2011. Walter and Jodi were engaging hosts and good conversationalists. They made helpful recommendations for day excursions, as well as restaurants, and provided delicious breakfasts and desserts each day. The rooms were clean and spacious (we were in the Writer’s Den) and the public areas were inviting. We really enjoyed watching the birds on the large deck off the dining room. We found ourselves regretting that we didn’t spend more time just hanging out at the B & B! The homemade cookies and nightly campfires completed the experience.

Our stay at Country Sunshine B&B was wonderful. The rooms were nice and clean with very comfortable beds. We had made our reservations on-line, but after I submitted it, someone else had beat me to it, and the room I requested had already been booked for 1 night of our 3 night stay. The owners accomodated us but putting us in another room which was at a higher rate, but they did not charge us extra. I can't say enough about their hospitality, so friendly and helpful with excellent advise on restaurants and things to do. The food was fabulous and the grounds beautiful and well maintained. They provided all the necessities and then more, including complimentary beverages at our fingertips. I believe their attention to detail, excellent food, and their warm personality has made this a B&B one of the best. We will definitely be returning again.

Have stayed 5 or 6 times now. It just gets better and better. Our favorite B&B.
3.8 on October 11, 2011
We recently spent 4 days here with great expectations . Walter and Jodi really make you feel at home ( along with their two dogs ). In order to run a B&B you must have a passion and then make your guests feel the same. Location is perfect as is sits in privacy with suburb views . Much has been reviewed about the breakfasts and Walter's desserts............and all true. As an experienced "Euro" traveler with forty years in the gourmet food business I can highly rate his food. This place is a "must" for those that know the difference in B&B living ! Tom Leonard Boston,Mass.

Alan and I had a wonderful time with Walter and Jodi. It was one of the best stays we have had since we have been married. I would recommend Country Sunshine to everyone. We will be back to stay again.

This is located further from Durango than we expected but it is worth it. We had requested a smaller room but because they had a vacancy they gave us a complimentary upgrade which was very nice and certainly was beyond the call of duty. The hospitality is very warm and friendly and they welcome your "dining in" on their wonderful deck or around their several dining tables. Many guests ate left overs from dinner out the night before (they have a guest refrigerator) or grabbed something from a deli to take advantage of a low key evening amidst the birds and nature. They offer complimentary wine at cocktail time and serve a delicious dessert about 8:30 p.m. The breakfasts are "gourmet"...delicious and beautifully presented. We will go back and stay more than one night!

This was our second stay at Country Sunshine and all I can say is that Walter and Jodie left no stone unturned in their quest to make our visit so memorable.Everything was perfect and this must be one of the top B and B's anywhere, not just Colorado. Ron and Carole Martin, Northampton England UK

Our four-night stay at Country Sunshine B&B ranks among the top three B&Bs (all three being equal) in my last ten years of traveling. It was high quality and service in every way.

My wife and I enjoyed our stay with Walter and Jodi. They work at making you feel comfortable and they are very accomodating; helping with local attractions, dining, and recreation. While on our trip my wife became sick and we had to change our reservations and they were understanding and we were able to work out the change easily. The breakfast and evening offerings are excellent. All sorts of drinks are included as well as the great deserts! The rooms are clean and confortable. We plan to return!

We were warmly greeted by Walter & Judi upon our arrival. We were pleasantly surprised to find out they were going to prepare a dessert for later in the evening. We enjoyed it upon our return from dinner. The breakfast the next morning was delicious. They have a great location outside of Durango that offers peace and quiet, but we were only 15 minutes from dwontown Durango.

I liked with this place online because of the pictures and the amazing-sounding food. I fell in love with this place once I got there because of the amazing hosts, the view that's too gorgeous for pictures, the sweet puppies, the great breakfast, I could go on and on and on. Looking forward to coming back some day!

5 on September 06, 2011
Country Sunshine is THE BEST PLACE IN DURANGO to stay! The food is amazing, desert in the evenings and breakfast is to die for! We were on our honeymoon and stayed 2 nights. Not long enough wanted to stay for months!! Walter and Jodi are the most caring thoughtful people who know how to run a bed and breakfast! Outstanding does not even begin to describe this place! It is exceptional, and is a very extraordinary place in this fast paced world!
5 on September 05, 2011
Truly warm and inviting place to stay. The hosts are very attentive and enjoyable to talk with, seeing to every need. The breakfasts were wonderful and Walter made each evenings dessert a pleasant surprise. The rooms were large and clean. The patio was perfect to enjoy the vista and bird watching. This was the most relaxing and enjoyable B&B my wife and I have stayed at. Extensive travelers

Walter and Jodie are the best most gracious hosts in the world.
5 on September 02, 2011
The Country Sunshine sits on 4 amazing acres just off Hwy 550 a few miles north of Durango, Co. Its location is quiet, peaceful and breathtaking. The resident dogs and cat are a joy. The owners/operators, Jody and Walter, are extremely personable and tremendously accommodating. The breakfasts are outrageous (thanks, Walter). Durango has many properties from which to choose - from Hiltons and Marriotts to numerous B&B's. We did a lot of research and I honestly believe we absolutely hit the jackpot. Spend some time with Jody and Walter and I'm sure you will agree. And say hi to the puppies. Bob S.

the excellent service at the B&B was complemented by the warm personalities of the hosts and the extras that were available to guests; all other guests were very happy about their stay and spent time at home in a relaxing and stimulating atmosphere; the location is fantastic and the humming birds at breakfast made a wonderful show
3.4 on August 29, 2011
A wonderful place to spend the night. Jodi and Walter are warm and welcoming as are their pets. Walter is an excellent chef and provided dessert and a gourmet breakfast. The refrigerator is also filled with water, wine and beer. The house is very comfortable as are the rooms and common areas. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
5 on August 25, 2011
It was great. Isolated from city noise and the birds in the oak tree out back were great for deck dining. I highly recommend it!

Other than being a ways from the historic part of Durango, I can't think of anything I would change or add. Jodi and Walter thought about everything (and more).

Soggiorno in Agosto 2011 - Tiziano - Modena, ITALiA.
5 on August 13, 2011
This little gem is hidden off Highway 550, and worth seeking out. I had the writer's den and was very happy with the decor and arrangement. Breakfast, dessert in the evening and extra snacks throughout the day are like being at home with a personal gourmet chef, and Jodi and Walter will make you feel like you are family. Highly recommend this to travelers. If you are traveling from the north on highway 550, signage is difficult to see until you turn-look for Colorado Timberline Academy turn-off. From arrival to departure we were continually impressed with both the property and the and the hospitality shown to us. The dessert of the deck in the evening was outstanding and breakfast superb. We are already planning a return visit. Kathy and Rich Hoenigman
4.2 on August 11, 2011
This was the best B and B we stayed at during our entire trip. The service is indeed outstanding. Our room was clean. Because of physical limitations we should have requested a room on the main level. There was a bit of a hazard with the steps in the room by the sink but we were careful. We had breakfast outside and it was excellent and the service was great. We can highly recommend Country Sunshine B and B.
5 on August 11, 2011
This B and B is so great. Walter and Jodi are charming hosts. Walter greeted us warmly and took our luggage away from us right away and showed us our large beautiful room. He then took us on a tour of the entire inn- and there is a lot to see! We arrived late and had missed his dessert, but he made it up again for us anyhow. What a treat! He is an excellent cook and the breakfasts and desserts were scrumptious. The setting is peaceful and serene. We loved watching all the hummingbirds outside and the other birds in his "bird tree". Star gazing was magnificent, especially from the hot tub view. We'd love to go back sometime. No other bed and breakfast has even come close in quality to what we experienced here.
4.8 on August 09, 2011
This was our 10th visit to Country Sunshine, and as usual, Jodi and Walter went out of their way to make us feel at home. We love visiting there - it always provides relaxation and welcome relief from everyday living. If you are looking for an overpriced luxury hotel, this isn't it, but if you are looking for a friendly family atmosphere with great food, you can't beat Country Sunshine.
5 on August 08, 2011
Country Sunshine is the best B&B we have stayed at. Jodi & Walter were excellent hosts. They went out of there way to help us with places to eat & visit since we had never been in the Durango area before. Walter prepared gourmet breakfasts that were delicious! Very relaxing atmosphere & great location just outside Durango. Next time we go to Durango, we will definitely be staying at Country Sunshine Bed & Breakfast!

Country Sunshine is one of the best B&Bs my wife and I have had the privilege of staying at. We enjoyed the wonderful food (eg, we had some delicious chocolate cake dessert in the evening and banana nut pancakes for breakfast), the style of the B&B, the lovely grounds surrounding the home, the cozy rooms, and the complimentary beer/wine. Country Sunshine is certainly a worthwhile stopping point and we couldn't recommend it more highly!
5 on August 03, 2011
This getaway a short distance from Durango, CO, is the perfect place to stay! You won't find warmer hosts - and the food is incredible! Walter really knows how to create a breakfast - and how to cater to dietary needs in a way that makes you feel like you aren't missing anything that others might be getting. And to have the dessert time later in the evening really helps you get to know the others staying there and to create a community feeling. Yummy desserts, I might add! My husband and I will definitely go back when in that part of the country!
5 on August 03, 2011
Owners went out of their way to make you feel at home. Beautiful surroundings and the food was very high quality. Would definitely recommend Country Sunshine B&B to friends and will likely go back myself. Never saw so many different kinds of hummingbirds in one place as I did while having amazing breakfast on the porch. Eileen

Walter and Jodi called us by our names and right away made us feel special. Jodi had everything ready for our stay and we didn't have any wasted time waiting to get check in. Walter served us the most spectacular meals that he prepared himself. He went to great lengths to learn what our favorite foods and snacks were so he could fix it for us. The price is very reasonable and the service is very high quality. We will definitaly plan our vaction next year around the Country Sunshine Bed and Breakfast. We loved everything about it.
4.6 on July 29, 2011
We really enjoyed our stay here. The B&B is in a beautiful location with a great deck, where we could sit and enjoy the view (as well as lots of hummingbirds). Breakfast was fantastic, and each night they also served a delicious desert. The innkeepers were very friendly. We stayed in the Pine Room, which was a very pleasant room. The reason we rated it as only "met my expectations" is because the room was right off the main area where guests sometimes gathered in the evening. We could hear people talking and as a result the room did not feel as private as we would have liked. We will definitely stay here again, but probably in a different room.

My husband and I arrived on our Harley hot and tired. After meeting Walter, munching on freshly-baked cookies and getting a quick tour, we retired to our room (Riverview) and took a much-needed nap in our beautiful, comfy king-sized bed. After that, and a relaxing soak in the hot tub, we were ready to eat. Walter told us about a gourmet grocery nearby where we picked up salads and brought them back for a dinner on the balcony overlooking a beautiful meadow and the river. Walter served us and the other guests delicious white chocolate mousse with cherries for dessert, then several of us went down to the fire pit to relax, talk, and look at the amazing night sky. In the morning I wandered the grounds and sat on a wooden swing drinking coffee, enjoying the beautiful view and flowers blooming everywhere. Breakfast, again on the patio, was wonderful. The only thing wrong with our stay was it was too short!
5 on July 25, 2011
Walter and Jodi bring country sunshine to all as they are the perfect hosts! They graciously share their lovely home and grounds with their guests and are very accommodating. Walter is a fabulous cook so breakfasts are to die for! There are also many extras like cookies, fruit and drinks all day long and scrumptious desserts in the evening. We were pampered and spoiled!
5 on July 25, 2011

We booked with Walter and Jodi because of the consistently high on-line ratings and they did not disappoint. A quiet and exquisite spot, lovely comfortable surroundings and grounds, birds, views of the Hermosa Cliffs and Missionary Ridge, amazing breakfasts and unbeknownst to us, elegant, nightly desserts all thoroughly charmed us. Both hosts were thoughtful, personable, helpful but not intrusive. An excellent value as well. We'll be back.

Location was very handy to our other daily destinations. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. The chef made sure that each individual was given the attention needed and made changes to the menu as ones diet required. The setting was very comfortable and easy to assimilate,

Just returned from a college reunion. Four college friends and their spouses enjoyed a wonderful experience at the B&B. Walter and Jodi went out of there way to accommodate us. The breakfast was fantastic. Walter prepared "special food" for my husband. I would highly recommed this B&B!
5 on July 15, 2011
We stayed with Walter and Jodi during the July 4th holiday. The place was full but we all received individual attention. It was my mother's 70th birthday and they made the day all about her from the time they served breakfast all the way through dessert in the evening. We felt so much like family we didn't want to leave. We will be back!! Not only is Durango our favorite place to visit but now we have a favorite place to stay.

My husband and I just got back from our honeymoon in Durango. We stayed at the B&B and couldn't have been more pleased! They were so friendly and made the place feel like home. I was worried that the noise level would be bad since the place was full. But our room was nice and quiet. Walter made the best breakfast, cookies and dessert! In fact, many of the guests all came back early on July 4th because we didn't want to miss his dessert instead of watching fireworks! My husband and I will definitely come back next year and stay with them for our anniversary. I cannot say enough great things about the owners and the B&B!
5 on July 11, 2011
The Country Sunshine B&B was the best accomodations on our cross country trip. The innkeepers were so friendly, as were the other guests. The B&B was very clean, cute, and quaint. The patio was perfect for reading and watching the stars. Evening dessert was delicious, and the banana pancakes in the morning were even better! The fridge was full of beer, wine, and water, and you really felt at home. I look forward to a return trip!

Everything was wonderful. The room with a selection of movies to watch, the hot tub, the fire, the food, the bird watching. It was wonderful. Our host were so friendly and engaging. We stayed at the beginning of June and there were some fierce mosquitoes outside. This dampened our stay a little, but it was no fault of our host.

Walter and Jodi are wonderful, friendly hosts. Breakfasts are delicious and every night there is a dessert worth waiting for. They even provide guests with an assortment of soft drinks, wine and beer!! We spent the day riding the Silverton-Durango train which we enjoyed. We had dinner at Mutu's in Durango and it was delicious also. Walter was very helpful with our travel plans. I would love to go back!!!

On arrival we were made to feel welcome straight away. We were given a full guided tour by the proprietors. The room was very spacious included everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. There was an outdoor hot tub, a lovely veranda to see with the distant noise of the river. Having been out for dinner we were offered a delicious desert on our return along with wine/beer all complimentary. Breakfast outside was amazing with fruit & blueberry pancakes. Our only regret was we had only booked one night. We will definitely return if we are in the area again.

The best part of Country Sunshine is the innkeepers, Jodi and Walter. They go out of their way to make sure each person has a great vacation. We rested and we played and came back to Denver planning our next trip. Walter's cooking is fantastic and he is so willing to share his recipes-he just prints them off for us. The grounds, the birds, the rooms, the hot tub with swimming suits and towels. the wine and beer, the cookies and desserts - awesome! Our highlight? The bonfire in the teepee. Rob and Lois Colorado

Recently, my husband and I enjoyed our honeymoon in and around Durango, CO. We ended up staying at the Country Sunshine Bed and Breakfast after reading many positive reviews from this website. I cannot begin to describe how wonderful our experience was staying at Country Sunshine B & B. Walter and Jodi were amazing hosts and the whole time we felt that they treated us like family. Jodi welcomed us immediately upon entering the house and fully explained the amenities and features of the B & B to us. We were surprised to learn that they included free beverages, etc. for their guests and we were more than satisfied with the accomodations. Walter made us the most delicious breakfasts each morning and even got up early two of the days so we would not miss out on his morning delights. Every evening we were treated to a scrumptious dessert, also prepared by Walter. Jodi and Walter were also terrific at helping us to decide what activities and restaurants were worth our time and we were impressed that they had menus, maps, and directions on hand to offer their guests. We were especially touched by the thoughtfulness of our hosts when we returned one evening to find a bottle of champagne, two flutes, and two chocolate dipped cookies on our bed with a sign congratulating us on our honeymoon! They were so generous during our entire stay and even let us barbeque on their grill the final night! We felt right at home and will definitely recommend them to our family and friends, as well as anyone looking to spend some time in the southwest CO area.

The simple rooms of this B&B are overcome by the hospitality of the hosts. Walter made wonderful breakfasts and mouth watering deserts and snacks. This was a relaxing venue close to Durango but away from the crowds.

Wow!! I can't say enough about The Country Sunshine and Walter. We had such a great vacation. Country Sunshine is such a relaxing place if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle. We have always stayed in a hotel when visiting the area but decided this time to stay at a bed and breakfast. We read the reviews on Country Sunshine and didn't see anything negative so decided to give it a try. It definitely exceeded our expectations. We were very warmly welcomed when we arrived and shown around the house. The most heavenly dessert was waiting on us. Walter's gourmet breakfast the next few mornings made me never want to leave. We would pop in and out throughout the day to snack on Walter's delicious homemade cookies and to grab a quick beverage. Beverages, breakfast, cookies, and dessert were all included in the price. That on top of the hospitality and atmosphere made it a place that we will definitely visit again. I would 100% recommend Country Sunshine as a place to stay when visiting the Durango area.

We wouldn't go to Durango unless we were able to stay at the Country Sunshine B&B. It is very comfortable and homey, but the best part about the whole stay is the hospitality of Walter, Jodi and Norma. They make you feel like one of the family. Last, but absolutely not least, are the wonderful breakfasts that cheerily greet you every morning, the cookies in mid-day and the fabulous desserts at night. You really get a lot of bang for your buck!!

This bed & breakfast is absolutely amazing. It felt like staying with friends or family because it was so cozy. The owners are very accommodating and welcoming. They make you feel right at home. The room we stayed in was very comfortable and quaint. It was right under the kitchen, so it was a little loud, which may be the only complaint. Walter (the owner), made delicious cookies and cheesecake the night we arrived. It was so heavenly. This was all included in the rate. Other bonuses, were complimentary coffee, assorted teas, bottled water, wine, beer and soft drinks. The breakfast was also delicious. We were served orange juice, coffee, a yogurt parfait with fresh fruit, and sweet potato waffles with fruit. It was just simply amazing. I would definitely recommend this b&b, not only for the coziness and comfort, but it is also a short drive from the main area of Durango. I just wished we could have stayed there longer.

The view from our room The Golden Oaks was amazing. The property itself is well kept and beautiful to hike around before breakfast. Walter and Jodi are sensational hosts who from the moment we arrived masses us feel welcome, not to mention they catered to my diet request without hesitation. If you are looking at other B&B's you have to stay here. Country Sunshine is unique in so many ways and its the only B&B that you receive desert nightly. In other reviews you will read the food is amazing and it's true! We will not stay anywhere else, Country Sunshine has it all and more!!

My husband and I recommend Country Sunshine to everyone we talk to. We have been there twice already and look forward to returning as soon as we can get away again. The breakfast is cooked fresh each morning and is to die for! Jodi and Walter are both very patient and quite attentive towards their guests. From the complimentary beer and wine to the lush landscape surrounding you this B&B is truly top notch!

My fiancee and I stayed here for my birthday in January. Although we arrived late, the owner, Walter, greeted us and help us carry our bags in. He was extremely friendly, and offered many good suggestions on where in Durango to grab a late dinner, but not before serving us the best creme brulee that either of us had ever had. After dinner, we came back and retired to our room, which was not only beautiful and spacious, but incredibly comfortable. If I ever get a chance to buy a bed like the one we slept on there, I will. The next morning we had an amazing breakfast before packing up and heading west. Walter was a great help and a wonderful host. This place can't be beat. We will return.

stayed in the golden oaks room, definitely worth the extra money. owners were extremely courteous (austrian chivalry) and excellent cooks (potato pancakes with home-made apple butter) had cookies, chocolate cake, beer (that's right, BEER!) soda and water all waiting for us when we checked in (about 9pm) and it was all included in the cost. The only downside was we could not bring our puppy because one of the dogs is extremely defensive (will bark at you when you first meet him) other then that, best bed and breakfast I've ever been to!

I can't believe it's been almost three years and we are STILL talking about this place. Our room was ok but it was Walter and Jody's service that really stood out. Well, that and THE BREAKFASTS! Fruit lovers delight! The only problem we had was that this was the first B&B we stayed in and for the rest of the trip the others had difficulties measuring up! We can't wait to come back.

I chose this B&B because of the good reviews, but am always sceptical because I have a tendency to be particular. We travel a lot and rarely stay at the same place twice. I would come back to Durango just to stay at this B&B!! The place is charming and rustic. You can be as social or reclusive with the hosts and other guests as you choose to be. Walter & Jodi are present but unobtrusive. There are fresh cookies & fruits waiting for you in the afternoon, a different delicious dessert every evening and a gourmet breakfast every morning. They provide water, soft drinks, wine, beer, coffee, hot tea, hot chocolate and cider to tide you over as well. There was a frig. and microwave available for us to use during our stay which was nice after a few days. We stayed in the Golden Oaks and it was large and comfortable. There was a separate dressing room. The fireplace was cozy but didn't put off much heat. The jacuzzi tub was nice after a long day of skiing. The king size bed was comfortable. If I have one thing to complain about, the pillows were lumpy. Oh well, can't have everything! Thank you Jodi and Walter for a lovely time and we will be back!!

Walter and Jodi were exceptional hosts attending to your every need - well beyond just breakfast, but throughout the day and evening. It truly was like staying in the home of good friends. Walter's cooking was fabulous and he also exhibited flexibility in accommodating special needs and requests. A birthday was celebrated and they made this occasion very special. The innkeepers are very special and fun people living in a beautiful setting.

Walter and Jodi are wonderful Innkeepers who make you feel right at home the minute you arrive. Walter's cooking is superb! Breakfast is creative and delicious, as are the special desserts and treats. We had a very nice room with a view of the surrounding woods and wild life. We would recommend this B&B to anyone who enjoys quality travel.

After our fourth stay at Country Sunshine, we love it just as much as the first. The service is exceptional and the food is delicious. It provides easy access to Purgatory and Durango and boasts some spectacular scenery. We recommend it to anyone traveling to Durango.

My wife and I have traveled all over the world and have stayed at numerous B&B's. I have not yet desired to return to one until now. Jodi and Walter have successfully made Country Sunshine an annual must for our family. The Aspen room was incredibly clean and the entire house is smartly decorated. Above all, its the way that the owners make you feel at home the moment you arrive. They are truly an amazing couple and I couldn't recommend this place more. Go visit them as soon as you can!

We picked Country Sunshine because it was walking distance to our family. We had heard it served the best breakfast of the B and B's. Excellent breakfast, friendly and helpful hosts but not too intrusive. Interested in guests and willing to share their experiences.

This was my first bed and breakfast stay. I made my decision initially based on price, local business, and relaxation factor. My stay was cheaper than a chain hotel and included real breakfast. The money spent stays in the local economy, not corporate share holders’ portfolios. The fire, dessert, homemade fresh breakfast, privacy, and community chatting made the stay perfect. Not to mention that being a woman travelling alone, it felt safer. Not only do I highly recommend the experience, but I will also rant the praises of Country Sunshine whose stars and beauty are Jodi and Walter. The birds, dogs, Kitty, and Norma were great too. All in all:, a must, a plus, and a fully satisfying stay. Do it!

Walter and Jodi went above and beyond at all times-the wonderful breakfasts, afternoon cookies, evening desserts, making sure the fireplace was going, and having maps, menus and suggestions of local activities available at all times. We especially loved the 2 dogs and cat, but also were aware that if we were not animal people, we would not have been innundated with the animals. There were several living areas, so if we didn't want to be particularly social, we didn't have to stay in our room. The downstairs fireplace was particularly cozy. We were in the Golden Oaks room, and enjoyed so much relaxing on the bed, watching the sky grow dark and the fall leaves fall from the trees, with the cat purring next to us. We have not been that relaxed in a very long time! I was honestly taken aback with the generosity and kindness of Jodi and Walter-offering the use of their bikes, having drinks available at all times, and the personal interest they took in making sure we enjoyed our stay, without being pushy or nosy in any way. We will certainly be back-just not soon enough!

Love Country Sunshine! We have stayed with Jodi and Walter at the Country Sunshine B&B numerous times and each time we feel more and more at home with friends. The rooms are very nice, the food is outstanding but it is the hospitality that brings us back over and over. We even brought friends from New Hampshire with us for this last week long stay. It is wonderful to sit on the deck and watch the birds while eating a yummy and hearty breakfast or sit by the fire in the winter and just have your cares melt away while enjoying a scrumptious dessert. We cannot say enough about the wonderful and relaxing times we have when we stay at our "home away from home"- Country Sunshine B&B. Susan and Glenn Queen Creek, AZ

Country Sunshine was a wonderful surprise to us old B&B people. The grounds are quiet and yet full of activity even hammocks spread out for privacy. The dinning area and the food a upscale with homemade and beautifully presented. We even stayed to talk and enjoy the other guests on check out day. Walter makes desserts each night way beyond expectations. They seem to love their work; and so you love your stay. The location is perfect for daytrips to the Silverton RR and Mesa Verda. Great for families or couples.

We loved every minute of our stay at Country Sunshine Bed & Breakfast. Walter and Jodi are absolutely focused on detail and service. The breakfasts on the deck were outstanding and dessert every night was to die for delicious. They are great cooks and fabulous hosts. The property is beautiful and we loved the fact it was away from the hubbub of Durango proper. They were very acccomodating when we asked for our breakfast a little early in order to make our train ride and were so sweet to our six year old grandson providing him with marshmellows and s'more fixin's for the campfire. We'll be back again!

A quiet, beautiful location combined with the most hospitable hosts makes this a terrific B&B. Breakfast of sweet potato waffles and sausage, fresh fruit with yogurt and granola was delicious. We were too full to enjoy the evening's dessert of bananas foster, but everyone else liked it. Definitely, we will return and highly recommend to others. K&K Kilz

Our stay was outstanding, beginning with warm, luscious chocolate chip cookies when we arrived. In the evening we were served some delicious chocolate cake and ice cream while relaxing on the deck, looking for shooting stars. Breakfast was beautifully served and was delicious as well. This was one of our all time favorite B&B experiences. We had the largest suite with lovely views.

Walter and Jodi are two of the most hospitable person I have ever met. They welcomed me with open arms and made my stay the best it could be. The house and property cant be matched. I was completely blown away by the whole experience. I plan on coming back annually if not more!

We were in Durango to drop our daughter off at Fort Lewis College and stayed a week at the Bed and Breakfast while getting her settled. Walter and Jodi are excellent hosts and made our transition towards empty "nesters" easier. You will be well pampered with gourmet breakfast, tasty cookies, and evening desserts. They are close to breathtaking vistas and easy drives to local areas. Randy and Sherry Smith, OH

Val & I had a great week, 8-12 June at the Country Sunshine B&B. It is difficult to expand on the comments others have written in the room journals and Walter and Jodi are family. You'll enjoy your stay. I guarantee it. Gary Fickes

Arriving at the property, sight unseen, we were greeted and welcomed from the moment the door was opened. We found our room to be quaint but tastefully decorated and quite comfortable. The breakfast was exquisite and Jodi and Walter most charming innkeepers. They were very informative about the area offering suggestions for day excursions. We had a very relaxing time and intend to go back as often as we can. Ed & Sharon Saferite

Jodi and Walter made us feel right at home. Well, better than home... warm cookies in the afternoon, cold beer in the refrigerator, a bonfire in their beautiful backyard, and a selection of desserts in the evening. What more could you want? Oh, the rooms are comfortable and clean, and the breakfasts are delicious. We would love to come back. Rob and Katie

We recently stayed at Country Sunshine - hosts Jody and Walter are wonderful, always available and helpful. The food is great! Walter prepares the best breakfast and desserts in Colorado. We had a great time, very relaxing, and beautiful. Walter and Jody are friendly and run the best B and B I have ever stayed at!
