Location

  • Location is best described as:
    • Countryside
    • Mountains
  • Nearest major city: Denver, CO (77 miles)
  • Directions to property:
From I-70, take the US Highway 40 exit over Berthoud Pass to the Winter Park / Fraser River Valley. Take a left at the stoplight in front of Safeway. Go under the railroad tracks and stay right at the Y in the road. Turn left at the stop sign onto County Road 73, turn right past the rodeo grounds on County Road 50-S and bear left at the next intersection. Turn right onto County Road 5001. You'll see two large lodges on your left as you come down the hill; turn left onto our road; the High Mountain Lodge is the first lodge on your left with the large deck in between the two buildings.
  • Nearest major airport: Denver, CO (DEN-Denver Intl.) 87 miles
  • Directions from airport:
The High Mountain Lodge is approximately two and a half hours west of DIA. From DIA take I-70 westbound into the mountains, then Hwy. 40 over Berthoud Pass. You'll need a car to get to the Lodge and around the valley, and in the winter we highly recommend an all-wheel-drive vehicle. The lodge is located less than ten minutes from Fraser and the town of Winter Park, twenty minutes from Tabernash, thirty from Granby, and forty minutes from Hot Sulphur Springs (great hot spring pools), the town of Grand Lake and the west entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park. Winter Park Ski area is fifteen minutes away, and we recommend parking in Fraser and taking the free bus to the area.

In the summer, our decks invite friendly gatherings. With a dusting of fresh snow, the lodge is a warm, welcoming haven with a great view of the valley below.
What could be better after an active day than relaxing in our pool, hot tub, or sauna? In late spring, the road across the valley below the lodge provides a perfect place for a stroll in the sun.
Byers Peak and the cerulean blue summer sky in the summer give these horses a stunning view. The Byers Peak Wilderness area and the adjacent Fraser Experimental Forest offer some fine day hiking and backpacking trails close to the Lodge. This view of the Spring Branch valley and Sheep Mountain beyond greeted us one morning in June.
Sunsets behind Byers Peak are beautiful year-round. Here it is from the road to the lodge on a crisp February evening.
