Rico is in the heart of these mountains, situated 30 minutes from Telluride (along the San Juan Skyway Scenic Drive) and one and a half hours from Durango. From Denver, CO - Take I-70 west to Grand Junction, south on 50 to Montrose; continue through Montrose on 550. Continue south on 550 to Ridgway and then take a right (west) on Highway 62. Follow all signs to Telluride and after 23 miles take a right (south) on Highway 145 at the Telluride turn off, and drive 36 miles over Lizard Head Pass to Rico. This drive takes approximately 6 hours. From Colorado Springs, CO - Go west on Highway 24 to 285, south at Buena Vista to Highway 50. West to Montrose and the 550. Continue south on 550 to Ridgway and then take a right (west) on Highway 62. Follow all signs to Telluride and after 23 miles take a right (south) on Highway 145 at the Telluride turn off, and drive 36 miles over Lizard Head Pass to Rico. This drive takes approximately 6 hours. From Albuquerque, NM - Go west on I-40 to 491 and north on 491 at Gallup New Mexico to Cortez, Colorado. From Cortez go east on Highway 160 to Highway 145, continue through Dolores and then 40 miles north to Rico. This drive takes approximately 6 hours. From Durango, CO - Take 160 west to Cortez (or Mancos, then 184 to Dolores) north 145 through Dolores, 40 miles north to Rico. This drive takes approximately 1.5 hours.
