Valley Ford Hotel

Exactly suited my needs. Very clean and comfortable!

The hotel was old, cozy, and charming. I actually liked that there wasn't a tv in the room. We couldn't get wifi on the ipad, but could on our android phones. I would have thought that would be the other way around. No cell signal, but when we asked to call home and check on the kids they were happy to provide us with a land line. In short, the staff was friendly and helpful, the restaurant was very good, the room was comfy. It was the perfect getaway near the coast and away from it all.

Stayed one night at the Valley Ford Hotel. Check in is a little weird since you do it at the bar and checkout is very casual. The rooms were small, but nice and comfortable. The toiletries were great in the bathroom. Also, having GREAT coffee and water in the hall was a nice plus. We were there on a Thursday night, which is also dollar oyster night at the restaurant. The meal was very enjoyable. I would definitely stay there again!

I had eaten at the restaurant on a previous trip so I knew what to expect with the food, which would be excellence. The room, for as sparsely appointed as it was, suited my needs perfectly. I didn't need television. I just needed a comfortable bed to sleep in and a place to take a hot shower after long days. My room was that in every capacity. I also liked having access to the coffee whenever I felt like a cup. When I finally checked out, I really didn't know where to leave my keys. No one was there to hand them off to. Not an issue. I just left them in the room. I would definitely stay here again. For the money this was exactly what I would expect.

Very relaxing stay - nice small hotel. Bar was downstairs, but the hotel was very quiet by 10pm Friday night. Restaurant very good (dinner only). Good cafe for breakfast just down the street.

Charming bed and breakfast near some great countryside and convenient for travel to some great beaches. They have robes for you to enjoy and well maintained rooms. Our only complaint is, due to a moderatly late arrival (8:30), we missed the staff and a key was just left out.

When we arrived the owners I guess take off Monday &Tuesday off so there was no one to check us in if there had not been people on the deck to tell us our envelope with our key was on the outside bench we would have left and been charged for the room! We did find a fabulous Italian resturant right down the street but the hotel failed to mention it and instead recommend Resturants down the road or their resturant that was closed. When we booked they failed to tell us that they would not be there or that their resturant would not be open. The only good part about the stay was the great Italian resturants down the road

I had no idea what to expect when we arrived. But it turned out to be fabulous. Our hosts were attentive meeting every request with a smile. The food in the restaurant was outstanding. I will recommend this place to all of my friends.

Our stay was during a time when the hotel restaurant and tavern was closed, as the owners took some time off. I worked out beautifully for us. We had eaten at nearby Bodega Bay and there is a lovely grocery store located across the street as well. We had a first floor room that opened onto the dining patio. Lots of room for us to make ourselves at home. The room was authentic early American with real antiques. It was truly like stepping back in time. The linens are a cut above the norm, and the bed very comfortable. Our dog loved the place. We had driven a long way and I cannot think of a more welcoming place to stop. I would go back in a heartbeat.

The room was great. We enjoyed dinner in the downstairs bar and Ivan made some killer cocktails. Loved it!

What a funky, cool place to stay! We loved it and would totally do it again!

We had a blast at this charming but totally unfussy hotel. The staff was so friendly and food was really superb. Highly recommended!

We only spent one night at the Valley Ford Hotel on the last night of our week long get-away up the coast. It was peaceful, comfortable and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. By this time we were tired and really just wanted to relax. They have a cozy sitting area in the front of the hotel with comfortable seating, a fireplace, and a bookshelf full of games. We played games by the fire, and they served us a delicious dessert and drinks in the sitting room so we didn't have to mingle with the crowd in the popular adjoining restaurant. Looking forward to coming back in the warm weather months, to enjoy their oyster barbeque and live music on their backyard patio.

Valley Ford Hotel is a class place. They provided a warm experience in one of the most interesting parts of California. Valley Ford is a special community.

We were so impressed with the comfort at Valley Ford Hotel and the great food on offer downstairs at Rocker Oysterfeller's that we skipped our dinner reservation elsewhere and stayed in for the night at the bar. We loved the happy hour special - $3 fish tacos - and chowed down on oysters (prepared with hot sauce and garlic butter), duck and squab gumbo, cheese grits (featuring local Carmody cheese from Bellwhether Farms), and to-die-for deviled eggs. We had great cocktails, too. The furnishings were homey and comfortable, with impeccable white linen sheets and a continental breakfast in the morning. We enjoyed jogging in the morning on the local roads - plenty of countryside to take in. We would definitely stay again.

I believe this was our fifth stay at Valley Ford Hotel and we always thoroughly enjoy ourselves. The bar, food and rooms are top notch. I only wish there were little breakfast snacks on Monday morning as we have our first cup of coffee. Overall, always a wonderful experience!!

Brandon & Shona are wonderful hosts. when you stay at the Valley Ford it feels as if your staying at a friends home. The food is wonderfully delicious! The beds are very comfy. This was my 2nd visit there. I would highly recommend staying at the Valley Ford.

Stayed here with my wife and 2 other couples. Very comfortable and clean, had no issues with staying right above the bar. We ate just about every meal at Rocker Oysterfellers downstairs and were never disappointed. We also stayed here 2 years ago and since then they have actually upgraded the rooms. Adding mini fridge and iPod docking alarm clocks. We will never stay anywhere else when visiting Sonoma.

Great option for touring in the Point Reyes & Russian River Valley area. Rooms are tidy and clean. The onsite restaurant/bar are great. The food at Rocker Oysterfeller's is excellent and offers a variety of innovative creations. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay again without hesitation.

Checkin early as you will need to get the attention of the bar tender to get a key if after 4:00. Unpleasant experience. Room was okay, large bathroom, clean, comfortable, not noisy even above the bar. Check out was with dining room hostess. Dinner was good food, a little pricy and surprisingly up scale using all fresh local products. Hostess very personable. Brunch not really worth the price or convenience. Bad bisquits and gravy.

This hotel was a real treat with a great style and friendly staff. We were only here for one night but we had a good meal in the restaurant and a fun time chatting to the staff at the bar. Would definitely recommend.

Always a wonderful, inviting and warm environment. Lots of fun with the locals and the owners, Brandon and Shona, are great hosts. This is our fourth stay at the Valley Ford Hotel.

We had a great experience at the Valley Ford. The food was amazing and we meet some good people that were staying at the hotel and some of the locals at the bar. The goats were entertaining also. Pancho and Lefty broke loose from there tether but were quickly rounded up after chewing up a good part of the garden. The location is a little remote. Not what I was expecting. Fortunately the hotel restaurant and bar was serving dinner the night we stayed. We arrived on a Tuesday afternoon and everything in town was closed by 8pm

We arrived on a Thursday and stayed through Saturday morning, we found the room cozy, kind of an antique spa vibe. We had requested a room in the back and were able to see the parking lot from our room (good for those of you who like to see your vehicle). We had a ceiling fan, which was great. No T.V., which was great too. (We brought a cribbage board). We ate at the hotel Thursday night, excellent food (everything is ala carte, so it gets a little pricey). We really enjoyed the outdoor patio area in the evening, it was very private. The town is cute! We ate at the local cafe and checked out the shops and museum. As we were leaving, we noticed new mini-fridges for the rooms, so that will be an excellent improvement. Only two minor criticisms: 1) coffee not restocked in the evening, so we had to get up and go to the store for creamer (as we are early risers) and 2) the fan needs just a little tlc, as it makes a lot of noise if you use it past low (probably just a little unbalanced). Since we were mid-week, we were unaware of the continential breakfast on Saturday morning, which was a nice plus (but we skipped it, we know next time). Overall, wonderful little place. (P.S. the goats are crabby, so stay away unless you are Dr. Doolittle, but the cat is really cool). We used this as our base camp for the area, did an ocean day and then a Russian River day. Don't just hit the store and go, stay in Valley Ford!

Valley Ford is a great value for your dollar and extremely comfortable. The rooms are lovely and clean, the coffee is tasty, and the people are nice. It's a B&B without 24-hr service, so be sure to call ahead if you plan to arrive after 10pm.

This is a very cute, IMMACULATELY clean, well appointed and comfortably furnished hotel. The restaurant, bar, and courtyard area look very inviting, unfortunately I was in and out for just the one night and didn't get a chance to stay for drinks or any meals. I'd definitely return. The only lowlight is, my room faced the highway, which isn't busy, but you do hear traffic from the road. I'd bring a small fan to create white noise; the room was otherwise very nice, the bed was comfortable, there were fresh, fluffy robes in the antique pine armoir - overall it was very inviting and cosy.

I stayed at Valley Ford hotel for one night as a stopping point for an event we had early the next morning in Occidental (20 minutes away). The hotel itself is really cute and charming. It's attached to the Rockers Oysterfeller restaurant, which was some of the greatest food we had on our trip, by far. We arrived for check-in around 6pm and couldn't find anyone at the check out desk - if you run into this same problem, just go to the bar to check in... Our room was Room #1 (keys are on Domino keychains... so cute!) and it was a very large room. Larger than we were expecting, both the bedroom and bathroom. We think it may have been a handicap accessible room which may be why it was so large... it was also set off from the main hotel, so we felt it was much more private, as it basically had it's own gate to the parking lot and street, and we didn't need to go into the main part of the hotel at all unless we wanted to. Location of the hotel is good - there's a great diner/cafe across the street, a market to pick up essentials, and beautiful scenery. I can't say enough about the restaurant at the hotel - SUCH great food! And friendly staff and bartenders! The free shampoo/conditioner/lotions in the hotel room were much better quality and smelling than most others I've come across, and the robes in the rooms are so comfortable!! Technophiles beware - there are no TVs in the rooms. The rocking chairs on the porch is a great place to read, though! I'd definitely stay here again. A great find!!

After traveling down the Bodega Highway for years and passing the Valley Ford Hotel, we decided to give this historic inn a try. Our room was about the size we anticipated, was clean and nicely decorated. We had requested a room with a bathtub, and that was provided, but it was so tiny (the older "standard" tub size), and not really practical for soaking, even for my 5'2" frame. Not a deal-breaker for us, though. The first night was very quiet, and we didn't hear the bar noise much. We even went down for a nightcap and really enjoyed the leisurely pace here. Again, we were welcomed by the bar manager, who made us feel really at home. The second night featured live music, and was considerably louder, but they close the saloon down early, so it wasn't invasive to our stay at all! We enjoyed hearing the sounds drifting up the stairs for an hour or two after returning from dinner. We wanted fresh air at night, so left our room's window open. No screen on the window didn't register, until we got eaten alive by mosquitos. We noticed in passing an open room that it did have a screened window, so maybe just a minor maintenance issue. A Keurig single server coffee machine was available on the landing for brewing your own individual cups of coffee, which was a nice convenience for early morning rising, however they ran out of regular and did not replenish during our stay. Continental breakfast was provided by around 8a.m. the first morning (apples, hard-boiled eggs, pecan tartlets, and o.j.), but was never brought up the second morning, and we were in our rooms packing until 9:00ish. Again, not a deal-breaker, but worth mentioning in case it is for someone else. We couldn't find anyone to give our key to upon checking out, so just left it in our room. All in all, we really enjoyed our stay in this cozy place, felt the value met our expectations, and we would stay there again.

The valley ford was a cute place but there was no one besides the bartender to check us in or get help from. It was advertised under bodega bay but was a long ways from there. In addition, there was no Breakfast served. The bar downstairs was apparently the only social place in town because it was quite loud until a late closing time. Finally, there was a cat on the premises which caused lots of problems for my cat allergic husband.

only one note: we wouldn't recommend the Union Hotel for dinner as an alternate to the Valley Ford Hotel dining room. It was nothing to write home about. The staff is nice but the food is unremarkable. So, go to the V.F. Hotel on a Wednesday - Sunday trip and enjoy their oysters.

This is a lovely hotel. Very clean and quaint. We had a late dinner when we first arrived and the food is excellent! The oysters were wonderful as was the fried chicken. We loved the basic complimentary breakfast with coffee, hard boiled eggs, fresh cherries, small pastries and juice. We will definitely stay here again.

We were going to spend a few hours at Osmosis, so we decided to spend the night at this place. The restaurant below (same owner) had awesome food! We were there on a Saturday night. Unfortunately it was loud. The folks across the hallway were screaming and having a blast, music or was it the TV from the bar/resturant below was loud, and people were walking up and down the stairs to their rooms. It almost felt like the college dorms. The room ws clean and quaint. There is no TV, so you will have to be entertained by the loud noise or join them downstairs. Service was great though. There's a coffee/tea bar in the hallway. Although breakfast was not included they did serve some pecan pie and cinnamon raisin bread from the local french bakery. Yum! We may come back if we find ourselves in that neck of the woods. It was inexpensive and was ok for the night.

Shona and Brandon are excellent and engaging hosts and dining at their onsite restaurant, Rocker Oysterfeller's, is a must. While there, ordering the Rocker Oysterfeller appetizer is a double-must. The Hotel bridges 2 centuries: built in 1800s; offering 2000s-style free WiFi and iPhone docks in the rooms. Really comfy bed, too ... a triple-MUST! Convenient location for exploring the coast from Bodega Bay to Tomales Bay to Point Reyes. We definitely enjoyed our stay.

I love staying at the Valley Ford Hotel. The staff are so friendly, and the food is delicious! Brandon and his wife have done a great job making it a wonderful place to stay. I went to the Valley Ford to work all weekend, and it barely felt like work... it was so relaxing and peaceful there. Thanks to the free coffee in the morning, the weekend was equally relaxing and productive!

This was our second stay at valley ford and we love this hotel. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are quite charming and the restaurant is so delicious. We ate dinner at rocker oysterfellers and then had brunch there the next day. The only complaint I have is that the ceasar salad we had at dinner was way too salty. Ordinarily the food is perfect, but the ceasar salad was kinda inedible. Definitely try this hotel they are wonderful and so is the restaurant!

Very much enjoyed our stay here. We wanted a stop outside SF on our way north up highway 1. Had been in the area years ago and thought we would try it. It was a lovely though a little small room and the service was great. Did not try dinner though we had a late night dessert in the room and it was wonderful. Will stay here again and next time spend more time in the bar for the music and try dinner. Music was playing the night we stayed and we did not hear any thing in our room. Good breakfast place across the street and about 200 yards up the street.

I enjoyed my stay at the Valley Ford Hotel. The room was clean and comfortable and the restaurant downstairs served a really good burger. There were a few minor problems with our stay though. The chain came off the handle in the toilet and had to be reattached. In addition, the bathroom door was a sliding door and had fallen off the top rail. As a result the door was hard to open and close. Finally, two wasps made their way into our room through the AC ducts. Closing the ducts solved that problem. Despite these issues, I enjoyed the stay at the hotel and the area and would definitely come back again.

I love staying here. Great home base for amazing cycling in the area. Food is great, service friendly. Just don't stay in room 6. Very, very noisy b/c it's just above the bar and the speakers so you can hear the music and bar conversations quite well. Too well. Fortunately, we went for a hard bike ride and were too exhausted to care about the noise. I'll be sure to bring ear plugs b/c we will keep coming back to the Valley Ford Hotel.

This is a cute, simple inn in a great location between Point Reyes & Bodega Bay. The staff was very friendly and the brunch at the restaurant was AMAZING. I also liked that fresh coffee was available outside our rooms first thing in the morning. Would definitely come back!

Very clean, great food and the feeling of being in your own bed. I would recommend to anyone who seeks an all-in-one safe, clean and comfortable place.

I highly recommend the Valley Ford Hotel! The rooms were simple, beautiful and clean. We ate downstairs at Rocker Oysterfellers both nights we were there, and were delighted by the food and the patrons-- a mix of friendly locals and other travelers. They have live music Thursdays and Sundays, which was really fun and fitting to the atmosphere. We found Valley Ford to be the perfect jumping-off-place to get to the coast or up to the Russian River Valley, Sebastopol and Santa Rosa. I would forewarn certain travelers about just a few things--not that they were terrible, but just so you know what to expect: The showers are pretty small and, at least in room 5, you could hear a lot of noise from the bar below--but hey the building is 150 years old, so the charm makes up for that stuff. Shona and Brandon have created a great atmosphere at The Valley Ford Hotel-- a fantastic restaurant and a lovely place to stay. I can't wait to come back!

Got to the Hotel and they had a two piece blue grassy band playing in the bar. Very nice communal feeling about the whole place.

We stayed at the Valley Ford Hotel during a wine tasting tour across Napa and Sonoma. Love the location, situated in the cute,quaint little town in Vally Ford. A peaceful place to retreat back to after a full day touring the vineyards. The Valley Ford Hotel was very welcoming. They had charming, clean and creatively decorated rooms. Enjoyed drinking coffee on the large porch in the morning. Great rocking chairs!!! Would definitely stay again. :-)

Had a wonderful dinner at the bar and Michele was wonderful host. Room was nice and clean, felt a little high in cost for what you got. Coffee and pastry in the morning. Had a wonderful time, a little costly for what your received. Would have dinner there again.

Nice place. Liked the idea that we could walk up to our room after dining. Very busy place. Dining room ran out of 2 entrees by 7 pm on a Thursday evening. Food was great.

The bartender was responsible for checking us in and giving us information but was understandably distracted. As a result, she neglected to tell us about breakfast service and advised us to just show up for dinner on an unusually busy night requiring reservations. We would suggest that rather than let the bartender bear responsibility for giving guests important information, the owners print up a guest information sheet. If there was such a sheet, it never made it to our room.

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday, and it definitely surpassed all of our expectations. If you're lucky enough to be here on one of the nights when their restaurant is open, don't waste your time with other nearby spots, stay for dinner, drinks and dessert! Super friendly staff, family feel and dog friendly, what more could you ask for? Rooms are quaint and clean, with nice amenities including an iPhone doc. I will definitely be returning.

The fish tacos were fabulous. I loved the room. Very spacious and comfy. I would definitely recommend it.

This was my 10 year old granddaughter's first stay at a B&B. We talked about the history of the 1864 hotel. She thought the room was 'pretty'. She loved the herbal soaps in the shower... and stayed in for a very long time..needed after a visit to the beach; slept on her snuggly featherbed (provided for a child). A perfect TRIP. The Valley Ford Hotel was a joy! The owners are gracious and friendly, and the bar/restaurant does a great job of showcasing local food and wines. The scenery is beaucolic, and the location is convenient to Santa Rosa, the coast, wineries and SF. We loved it!
