Grey Gables Bed & Breakfast Inn

I have stayed at Grey Gables at least 7 times in the past 15 years and love it! Other B&B's that I have stayed at do not compare. The rooms are beautiful and comfortable.I have stayed in 3 of their rooms and each one was a different but wonderful experience. The owners are very helpful and are always available to help you find a great place to try for dinner or to give directions to nearby wineries. Afternoon tea time gives you a chance to relax in a Victorian style parlor. The bake goods at tea time are always fresh and delicious. They have many types of tea and will gladly make your favorite. Wine and cheese time is another fun time. The breakfast in the morning is to die for. Fresh fruit, stuffed french toast, quiche, etc. It is never the same two days in a row and could be on the cover of Bon Appetit it is that great. I have stayed at some B&B's where the owners are intrusive and overly friendly but not at Grey Gables when you need them they are there with a smile and when you want to have your privacy they leave you alone. I have also stayed at B&B's where the rooms are filled with beautiful furnishings but are not functional that is not the case at Grey Gables. I can't say enough positive about my experiences at Grey Gables. I first stayed there with my Mom and sister and now go back every spring if I can with my daughter. I can't wait to return.

We enjoyed our stay. We would definitely come back. The hostess was superior as was the inn.

Stayed at the Grey Gables recently and found the experience quite acceptable. The hosts are charming and the food delicious. The location really cannot be beat, just a couple of hundred yards to the main drag of Sutter Creek. The only true negative about the place was the volume of the air conditioner, so loud that sleeping with it on was impossible. I can see that during the hotter summer months that would be a real issue.

What a charming experience! From start to finish our host and hostess and their beautiful B&B exceeded our expectations. Our two guests from Ohio were equally impressed with Grey Gables and it's overall hospitality. We had a wonderful visit.

We are a bit late in sending this review, but in no way does that lessen the way we feel about our stay! It was our first visit to the Grey Gables Inn. We have stayed at numerous other B&B’s in Sutter Creek and this was far and away one of our best experiences. In reading the other wonderful reviews, we concur, whole heartedly – excellent hospitality, food, interiors, location, amenities, etc. I think the one thing that really made this a standout experience is something small that Roger and Sue did. Most B&B’s serve complimentary afternoon or evening wine with an assortment of hors d’ oeuvres. Most of the time it is a group of strangers in a room with seemingly little in common and no basis for striking a conversation (except for “where are you from?”). The one singular thing that Roger and Sue did, daily, was to join the guests at each sitting. It was natural for them to start the conversation with guests who had been there for a few days. This allowed for a natural flow of conversations and offered “new” guests an easy point for joining the conversation. This would continue each day with “old” and “new” guests and the conversation was always lively and often humorous. This camaraderie would parlay easily into the breakfast service where you were seated with “old friends” from the evening before, rather than strangers. Guests would compare dining notes from the previous evening and talk about adventures for the upcoming day. The simple act of being present during this time really made it so much easier for everyone to interact together. My husband and I are both talkers (especially me!), but recognized the value of their integrating all the guests, thus enhancing everyone’s experience. Bravo to Roger and Susan on all fronts! This was our 5th stay at Grey Gables, We love coming back & are now introducing this lovely Inn to our friends!

We had such a fantastic time during our stay with Roger and Sue. The guests were also very nice and the atmosphere was perfect. We stayed in the Tennyson Room - lots of space and great for three people! Huge shower and lots of storage space for your clothes. There's even a fireplace! The grounds were immaculate. They are the perfect place to stroll to enjoy the outdoors, or a quiet place to sit and meditate without interruption. All the food was prepared by Roger and Sue and absolutely to die for. The wine and cheese hour wasn't awkward and stiff like you might expect other places. It was a room filled with warmth and laughter that no one wanted to leave after it was over :) This B&B is so close to so many things. It's really such a gem and we had such a fantastic time during our stay there. We will definitely be going back and won't stay anywhere else while in Sutter Creek :)

Enjoy being pampered and treated special. It begins with tea and a sweet, followed later by wine and cheese accompanied by stimulating conversations, Breakfast the following day is artfully prepared, served and delicious. All of this and many wineries near by to visit and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the area. A perfect holiday.

As usual a fantastic stay. Got the twofer special and had two awesome breakfasts and two good nights of sleep. A great place to start and end a walk to downtown and back. A lot of history in the area. Thanks for another great stay and see you again.

My husband and I have stayed at Grey Gables at least seven times and know we will return there again. Sue and Roger are such friendly and accommodating hosts, always willing to offer suggestions about dining, things to see and do, etc. We also enjoy visiting with them over tea and cake in the mid-afternoon or with wine and cheese in the early evening. Our favorite rooms are the Keats and the Wordsworth because of the lovely views and comfortable beds. The grounds are always immaculately kept and offer several places to sit and listen to the birds while enjoying a good book or whatever calls to your particular spirit. Everything from the beautiful English china to the ironed sheets shows how much thought and effort Sue and Roger put into making our stay memorable.

Roger and Sue are delightful hosts of this wonderful B & B.

We go to Sutter Creek, CA often. It is one of the dwindling number of 49er Gold Rush towns that has remained unspoiled by development. We have stayed at the Grey Gables many times and, I am sure, we will stay here again. Th rooms are all spacious with modern baths and gaslog fireplaces. There is a large, Victorian-style sitting room and an equally large dining room where Sue cooks up some wonderful full breakfasts. The inn is only a short walk from the middle of town and there are some wonderful backroad walks that start just across Hwy 49 from their front door. You will not be disappointed staying here.

We had an excellent stay. It would have been hard to find any way to make it better. Sue and Roger do a wonderful job and the location and facilities are our favorite.

Our second trip to Sutter Creek and the Gray Gables Inn and we had a wonderful visit. Sue and Roger can't do enough for you and the inn attracts special guests. Will definately be back.

My husband and I went to the Grey Gables for a weekend getaway. What an excellent choice we made in where to stay in Sutter Creek. The b&B is located in a perfect area in which to walk to the main street of the town. It is a picturesque walk, past charming houses (which reminded me of some of the houses in Napa or perhaps even Ferndale). The Inn itself couldn't have been more perfect. Sue and Roger were perfects hosts, offering afternoon tea, cake and ice cream, and then when you didn't think it would get any better, wine and cheese hour later in the afternoon. All served up in their very gorgeous parlour. Breakfasts were great, coffee was good. The best part is that the Grey Gables looks exactly like something that you would see in the English countryside. All the rooms are named after poets and our room was the Browning. Loved the very English accents located around the room and our bed was very comfortable. Sue and Roger are orginally from England and I told Sue how much I appreciated her bringing a wee part of England with her to California. Oh, and did I mention there is a fireplace in the room! Such a lovely place. I would totally recommend Grey Gables as a place to stay if you travel to Sutter Creek. I know that I will be returning there someday.

I want to tell all our friends to go visit Sue and roger at Grey Gables B&B Inn, in Sutter Creek. We were a bit disappointed at first that the Inn was a bit off the "beat & path", but as it turned out, it was probably more quiet staying there than on the main drag. We SO enjoyed our evening strolls along the back streets to dinner. Our room was immaculate, elegant and simple in decor - not too "cute-sie"as some B&B decor can be. We were most comfortable in the Tennyson Room. Breakfast was devine and reminded us of our time in England. Lovely linens, carefully appointed china, and scrumptious home made everything! Poached pears and an egg dish fit for royalty. We did not partake in the evening wine festivities, but surely Sue & Roger make that a special event as well. Everything they do is splendid and we look forward to returning to enjoy more of Sutter Creek and the outlying areas. By the way, Bellotti's for dinner was dreamy. Good food, friendly service, cute bar and Alfred is a good guy too! Try it, you'll like it! ~T. Lawson

This inn is a find! Immaculate, charming, and friendly. Roger and Sue were very kind to us. The breakfast, omg! Just like being in England. Make sure you take a walk down Spanish Street to get to the shops and restaurants. This street is right out of a Norman Rockwell painting. You may be thinking that staying on the main downtown area is a good choice, but we noticed how noisy it would be staying there. This inn was quiet and peaceful the whole time. We appreciated the two nights or the price of one. We will return to the Grey Gables again for sure. Thanks for making our stay a memorable one! PS Bellotti's Italian Restaurant was wonderful! Also, Pizza Plus! Great!!!!

We have been staying at the Grey Gables for well over ten years. Even though the Inn is an hour away from our home, we love "getting away" for a day or three with great expectation of a wonderful and relaxing stay with Roger and Sue. The Inn is beautifully decorated making you feel right at home, with exceptional full size breakfasts and wonderful afternoon tea with wine and cheese to soon follow. One of our favorite Inns we ever stayed at by far!

Oh baby, it was cold outside, but warm and lovely at Grey Gables. Beautiful rooms and cozy comforts for the guests (tea/cake, wine/cheese/crackers offered in the afternoon. Breakfast was top notch. Every part of our stay was just as we hoped for in a "getaway" after the rushed Christmas season. Couldn't have hoped for anything more thanks to our hosts. The Kirkman's

We were here for new years eve. We had a great time and had dinner at Susan's wine bar. Excellent food. This was our second time staying here, excellent as always.

We have stayed with Roger and Sue at Grey Gables around the same time of year for 6 or 7 years now. Their hospitality and personality are exceeded by none and the breakfasts are out of this world. The tea hour and wine and cheese hour are always an added bonus

We always stay here when visiting the Gold Rush country. The rooms are impeccably maintained and Roger and Susan make our visit special. Breakfasts are splendid. Don't miss tea time and wine tasting each afternoon.

VERY much enjoyed our 1 night stay here. it was during the Christmas season and the house was cozy and festive. The host met us for the evening wine and cheese which made it even more cordial. The breakfast was OUTSTANDING. Every little detail had been delightfully attended to. The room was comfortable. I would definitely come again

My husband surprised me with this place for our one year wedding anniversary. It has been our tradition to celebrate our anniversaries with Band B's, so this has been our 6th. Let me tell you, this was a great experience. The rooms were clean and beautifuly decorated. The breakfasts were SUPERB. Service was excellent. The owners were very pleasant and easy to talk to. My only cons: The air freshner was a little strong for me. I had a horrible headache the last day we were there (not sure if it was from the air freshener) but I think it may have contributed. The door into the parlor area and kitchen were always closed. We were not sure when we could enter and when we couldn't. There is a wine hour and tea hour but we did not take advantage of this bc it felt as if we couldn't go into the rooms. Other than that, wonderful weekend!

We had a lovely one night stay at the Grey Gables. Very lovely inn and finely decorated. The hosts were charming and we enjoyed our chats with them and especially the evening wine tasting with all the guests. The room was clean, neat, and we loved the gas fireplace for a relaxing stay.

This is one of the finest b & b's I have ever stayed in. The place is immaculate, and my room was charming; every detail had been thought of, including things like night lights, flash lights, etc. The hosts were attentive and very helpful. What more could one ask for?

A first visit to a B&B is always an "unknown quantity". Our visit to Grey Gables was a terrific success. Roger was extremely helpful with local information, and the wine tasting and the breakfast menu were both excellent in quality. Thanks, Sue! I look forward to a return visit!

We spent our 41st anniversary at Grey Gables Inn last night. Sutter Creek is only an hours drive from our home. We ride our tandem in the Amador foothills a lot and are very familiar with the area, so we thought it would be fun to stay here overnight. We have stayed at a lot of B&B's in many countries and we think this was the absolute best. Roger and Sue are great hosts. We looked at their website, were able to see each room and picked the Byron Room. Their attention to detail is incredible. Very clean, quiet and perfectly prepared. Best of all...no TV. You park off-street and can walk to the Sutter Creek CBD via a back road that is lined with period homes. Sue recommended Bellottis Italian Restaurant and it was a great choice. Breakfast just like everyone else described in Tripadvisor - perfectly prepared and presented. If you are driving to Sutter Creek from the Sacramento area, I might suggest visiting some wineries. We started with our favorites, Perry Creek Winery in Fairplay, El Dorado County, then drove down to Amador County and visited Dillian and Bray wineries. You can get great lunch (in our case, late afternoon lunch) at the Market and Deli in old town Plymouth. If you continue on to Grey Gables and want to get there via back-country roads, head south on 49 toward Ione. About 2 miles before you reach Ione, turn left on Sutter Ione Road. Enjoy the 12 mile drive to Sutter Creek. Enjoy Room Tip: Check out the website. The rooms are exactly as you will see them.

Our room at Grey Gables was very comfortable and soothing to the soul. The fireplace added to the ambiance as if we were in the English countryside. We enjoyed wine and cheese with the hosts (Roger and Sue) and chatting at breakfast with them and the other guests. It was centrally located for our wine tsting tours and charming Sutter Creek.

Very clean, pleasant, and efficient experience. I would highly recommend staying at Grey Gables.

We loved our visit to Amador County - it has a beauty and authenticity of setting that is distinctive. Grey Gables is a treasure - rates highly among the BNBs we've stayed at over the years. I hope we can go back!

Everything about this place is Great. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The is inn is easy walking distance to town. Our hosts are very happy to make dinner reservations or recommendations at any of the area's establishments. They will also help you choose some wineries to visit during the day. My only wish would be to have more choices for breakfast. Quice is generally what is served on weekends and it would be nice to have something different. Otherwise it is a great place to stay in the gold country.

Three nights in the center of the unspoiled Sierra Foothills. Three excellent restaurants in less than 10 miles. Dozens of excellent wineries among more than 200! A perfect nights rest and gourmet breakfast. If you are not happy you will never be!

Enjoyed our stay there. Would recommend it to friends. Will try to come back. However not everyone who comes to Sutter Creek drinks wine.

This is a fabulous B & B. Roger, our host, made us feel so comfortable and we so enjoyed our wine & cheese get-togethers with the other guests. We were 2 women traveling together and we were delighted that we were able to have a very large room that had 2 very comfortables beds. Roger and Sue have thought of everything to make to pamper their guests. Great linens, soft delicious towels, plenty of lighting to read by and books for us to read should we wish. The breakfasts were delicious and the tables were set with beautiful china. We would most definitely return for another visit.

The rooms were delightful, the Host, Roger, gracious and friendly, the gardens well kept and inviting, the guest, warm and interesting, the location , just a few minutes walking distance from the shops.

We met up with several friends at Grey Gables Bed & Breakfast the last week of August, enjoyed an efficient check in and found ourselves in a lovely spotless cozy room furnished with tasteful antiques and comfortable furniture. We found our adjoining bathroom also nicely appointed with big fluffy towels. It was fun to gather with friends, other guests, and hosts Sue and Roger in the charming living room for afternoon tea and later for evening wine, and we can't say enough about the abundant, attractive, and delicious breakfasts Sue & Roger provided each morning for us, We felt very special, Parking was convenient and the grounds are charming with cozy spots available here & there to sit outside, The location of Grey Gables is perfect for strolling into town or taking walks. Sue & Roger were ready with information, directions, restaurant suggestions, and other handy tips which helped everyone have a simply wonderful time in Sutter Creek and the surrounding areas during our stay. We felt very lucky to have found such a great place!

Nice location and nice people. The shower in the clawfoot tub was a bit inconvenient and tiny. Fireplace in the room was a nice touch. Breakfast was very good, although I was a bit disappointed that we had an egg dish two days in a row.

Our room was perfect, the hosts were very friendly and accommodating and the breakfast meals were absolutely devine. We had a wonderful 4 night stay and would return at the drop of a hat.

Our hosts were gracious and helpful. We had one night in Sutter's Creek and we enjoyed it immensely. The breakfast was a work of art and some other guests actually took photos of the plate before eating.

Our escape to Sutter Creek was absolutely superb. The Grey Gables B & B was the perfect place to relax and unwind. Roger and Sue were very attentive hosts and provided excellent service - not to mention the wonderful breakfasts in the morning. As we were leaving, I took a line from one of our former governor's movies and told Roger - "I'll be back!"

We are a mature couple who stayed at Grey Gables Inn while visiting relatives in the Sutter Creek area. Everything about the Inn is a delight. Our room (Keats) was spacious, comfortable and quiet. The Innkeepers, Sue and Roger, are very gracious hosts who go out of their way to make guests feel at home. Afternoon tea, the wine and cheese hour and especially breakfast are very pleasant. The setting of the Inn on a lovely garden within easy walking distance of Sutter Creek's shops and restaurants is perfect. We usually try new places rather than returning to an Inn, but we intend to make Grey Gables "our place" in Sutter Creek from now on.

This was the most perfect-in-every-detail B and B we have encountered. The decor throughout the Inn is lovely. The room was comfortable in every way including perfectly integrated air conditioning (important because we visited Sutter Creek on a 95 degree day). The host and hostess were warm and attentive, and sat with the guests through the wine and cheese hour. Sutter Creek is small, sleepy, and cute, easy to explore in about an hour, user-friendly with three or four restaurant choices. Altogether a pleasant experience.

What a wonderful place to stay with very pleasant hosts and excellent food!

Beautifully decorated in a Victorian style. No TV but that fact enhanced the feeling of being in another era. However we were grateful for the modern air conditioner in the Gold Country 100 degree weather. Sutter Creek restaurants close up by 8pm so this is a spot more for rest after a tiring day. Each room is named for a classic poet - ours was the Shelley Room and his poetry was featured at bedside. Beautiful bathroom with deep tub and good shower. Breakfast is the highlight here - cooked to order by the owner, it featured copious fresh fruit, cheese stuffed French toast and a bottomless cup of good strong coffee served in the atmosphere of an impeccably decorated period English dining room - with fine details such as napkin rings, sugar bowl with tongs, and stem doilies on the the stemware. There is a Victorian parlor with velvet sofas and chairs where wine is served in the afternoon. A great value in a very quiet town.

Just returned from a wonderful two night stay at the Grey Gables Inn. Sue and Roger were outstand hosts. We enjoyed the delightful breakfast each morning. The wine hour was an opportunity to meet the other guests and share the days explorations. This Inn is immaculately maintained and the decorating is a feast for the eyes. We will definately be returning guest.

We only had one night to enjoy all the aspects of the charming Grey Gables B & B; but, it was a spectacular lodging impeccably furnished in every detail. The B&B was welcoming with appealing curb appeal which transferred inside to the lovely furnishings. Everything was spotlessly clean. The breakfast presentation was stellar as was the food! We loved Roger & Sue and their gracious hospitality and would gladly stay at Grey Gables again if we are in the area. We will also highly recommend this B&B to family & friends! Truly a 5-star rating all around!

Have stayed twice now at the Grey Gables, Sue and Roger have a beautiful thing going. They both make an effort to chat and bring out the pics of all the work Roger put into the place, really extra-ordinary. both stays in the Rosetti Room at the top of the stairs. If you can make the climb it's well worth the effort. Will return for sure, keep an eye open for the deals. PS just drinking the local Amador Zin's are worth the trip.

We are very sorry our breakfasts didn't meet your expectations. Sue takes great pride in ensuring that she doesn't serve the same breakfast on consecutive days, so I'm not sure how this happened. Sometimes when guests have unusual dietary requirements there is an overlap because the choices we have available to us are limited. In this case only the guests with the restrictions would be affected.

Our stay couldn't have been better! Sue and Roger were both very helpful with local information and making restaurant reservations for us. Many thanks!

We had a very pleasant stay at Grey Gables. The hosts are very cordial and provided good advice on local restaurants. The premises are very clean and quiet and the breakfast was outstanding. Sutter Creek is a great place to visit and there are interesting places and activities nearby.

We stayed here over Memorial Day Weekend and everything about it was a delight! The grounds were beautiful, the rooms were comfortable and clean and the meals were amazing. Even the happy hour was fun and gave us a chance to meet the other guests and chat with the hosts. This is walking distance into shops and restaurants and we will definitely be back!

The garden was simply wonderful and the breakfast was superb. Everything about stay was exceptionally and we have stayed over 30 B& B over the last four years.

On arrival we received a warm reception including an invitation to afternoon tea and evening wine and hors d'oeuvres. The setting provided the opportunity to meet with other guests, share experiences and discuss local places to eat. The hosts were most willing to make reservations at restaurants of our choice. Surprise birthday recognition with a bottle of champaine is memorable. We look forward to staying there again.

This was my first time staying at a B & B. The Grey Gables was a very nice experience. It was very quiet and the room was nicely finished. There was no tv in our room and had to entertain ourselves. So we walked the beautiful gardens at Grey Gables and then walked to the near by town for dinner. Breakfast was Fabulous! No fake eggs here! My husband and I enjoyed our stay and would love to stay again.

I could go into great detail, but everything about this B& B is perfection. The rooms are beautifully decorated and super clean. Just like it was brand new. The grounds are quaint, peacefully quiet excellant representation as an english garden. The innkeepers were extremely courteous and accomodating, without being intrusive. You are greeted at check-in, and offered tea / coffee / dessert right up front. A great way to start off your experience. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful, and more than parallel to the theme of the stay there. Centrally located to all that you want to exploit from that area. our stay at the Grey Gables was amazing. if you want a place to rest and relax I would definately choose this place.Sue and Roger are so hospitible and make you feel so comfortable.My husband and I enjoyed a bottle of wine on the back porch as the sun was setting and just enjoyed each others company.We walked uptown enjoyed the shops and then setteled in for a very nice,quiet evening.Breakfast the next morning was nothing less than amazing.Served in a beautiful dining room with wonderful company and absolutely delicious eats.Grey Gables Inn is a place we cant wait to re-visit soon.Only next time we are staying longer.

We had 4 days, 3 nights at this beautifully appointed B&B. Sue and Roger anticipate your every need. Gourmet breakfast starts the day, tea and cake at 3, wine and cheese at 6. Suggested restaurants proved just right. The well designed garden is a delight on its own. It is amazing that Sue and Roger take care of it all. This B&B proved to be just what we wanted to be able to relax, shutting out the rest of the world. We highly recommend staying here for a few days to unwind and enjoy the surrounding towns and countryside, and wineries.

My wife and I as well as 2 other couples annually wine taste in the Gold Country and we just love the way Gray Gables treats us from the moment we arrive in the afternoon with a warm smile. They always have a dinner reccomendation or a new winery to try. I can't wait until next year to do it all over again.

Beautifully decorated, large rooms in a wonderfully maintained Victorian home. The gracious hosts, Sue and Roger, are from England and each room's theme honors a famous English poet. Wonderful breakfasts cooked by Sue and an evening wine and cheese get-together for guests in the Parlor make this a very special experience. A truly charming, romantic, and unforgettable place to stay in the Gold Country.

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay at Grey Gables. The service was excellent. I particularly appreciated all of the lovely details that went into the decor and accommodations--it's well worth the cost.

The Gray Gables Bed and Breakfast Inn is nice but you can tell that the owners/managers have been in the business for a long time. They seemed to be on automatic especially at breakfast. The Inn is very nicely furnished with antiques. It is well located to the Sutter Creek village district which has many shops and restaurants. This Inn is also in a super location for the wine country of that area.

Sue and Roger have done wonderful things to create the delightful ambiance at Grey Gables. They are the perfect hosts making everyone feel welcome and "special". The breakfast is to die for and the evening wine and cheese events a delightful way to meet the other guests and make new friends. Sue and Roger know all the venues in the area and can meet your expectations. This is the perfect location to explore the excellent and growing wine produci8ng areas of the Gold Country foothills or for soaking up some California history. We would always select Grey Gables when in this area.

Grey Gables is an excellent quiet place to stay. The hosts are wonderful. They go the extra mile. They truly offer a relaxing, quiet place to get R&R. Having stayed at several B & B's through out the country, it is that close interaction with proprietors and other guests that make them special. This was a very quiet and clean B&B which we also enjoyed our hosts and guests we met. The room was just as you see online very well appointed and everything was well cared for. The breakfast and tea are excellent, they really know how to take care of their guests.

Grey Gables is a lovely B&B. Our room was warm and well done with a wonderful claw foot tub that was fantastic with bubbles! I do wish the fireplace had been gas logs or real wood but it was very nice. The owners are delightful and I wish we had had more time to visit with them. Maybe next time:)

Innkeepers are very nice and helpful. Rooms are spacious, modernized and very clean. Public areas are very nice places to sit and relax. Location is within easy walking distance to everything in the small, quaint town.

Wonderful little B&B in the heart of Sutter Creek. Small enough so owners Roger and Susan could give us a personal touch - at Tea time, Wine / Cheese or at Breakfast, they always took time to ask about our plans and interests. We loved the room as well. Decoration was classy and not overwhelming. When we return to wine country, we'll stay here.

We weren't sure about staying at a B&B, but this place is a keeper. Large, beautifully appointed rooms. Quiet, great food and Susan our hostess could not have been more helpful in suggesting places to dine (all were outstanding); and to visit (we didn't want just a wine tasting experience). The entire stay exceeded out expectations by far and we wouldn't hesitate for a moment to return.

The owners were an affable couple that offered and provided information that made our stay as good as it could get. Sue's presence during afternoon tea and the wine and cheese hour helped the guests open up to conversation.Over all I would recommend Grey Gables B & B to anyone looking for a nice place to stay while in the Sutter Creek area.

Warm & welcoming -- the property, the grounds and especially the hosts Sue & Roger. Third time we've stayed and it is now an annual event! Fantastic breakfasts, very enjoyable social time in the evening, the location is great - just 2 blocks from town, everything is wonderfully clean and inviting. This B&B is so clean and well maintained that we thought it was new. The room and bathroom were spotless and very comfortable. The common areas were also spotless, comfortable, the food wonderful. Will stay again and recommend to friends and family!

The Grey Gables B&B Inn is beautiful and the Garlicks are so gracious and welcoming, and offered so many little extra services, such as preparing a table in the garden for us to sit and enjoy wine and cheese we had bought in town. The breakfasts were delicious, as were the afternoon tea and refreshments. If you are visiting wineries in the area, be sure to get suggestions from Sue and Roger--the ones they recommended were terrific. This was a wonderful place to stay.

My sisters and I stayed in the Tennyson Room. Perfect Perfect! The Inn was impeccable, the room was bathed in bliss. Amazing touches in the room - small poetry books of Tennyson, the fireplace, a large bathroom with the best shower! Lovely lovely gardens. I felt so welcomed and at home here. Afternoon tea revived us from our road trip. We skipped the evening wine and hors d'ourves because we couldn't wait to explore the amazing shops in town. The breakfast of fresh fruit, placed as pretty as a picture on the plate surrounded the cream cheese/apple butter stuffed french toast. A side plate of nut bread to nibble with juice and coffee. Many beautiful homes and historic sites right out the back gate within walking distance. Sue and Roger were the most gracious hosts. I would DEFINITELY stay here again.

This was our fifth visit to the Grey Gables Beb & Breakfast and everything was excellent as it has been for years. We will return.

The rooms and garden were lovely and Sue and Robert are exceptional hosts. Terrific location too as the inn is in Sutter Creek, which is half way between Plymouth and Jackson.

It was our first visit to the delightful Grey Gables Inn, and hope to return. We have stayed at a number of b&bs, and this one is at the top of the list! The owners do it right, from gourmet breakfast to afternoon tea to lovely room, inn and garden.

My wife and I traveled to the delightful town of sutter creek expecting a weekend tucked away out of town. What we discovered exceeded our expectations. The quality of service at the Grey Gables was marvelous, the hosts delightful, the food wonderful and the change of pace enviable. We highly recommend this inn to anyone considering a weekend (or weeklong) escape.

Sue and Rodgers are truly amazing Hosts, the place was beautifually decorated, down to the smallest details. Evening Wine and horsdorves just grand and Sue's breakfast fantastic. We would recomend this place to anyone staying in Sutter Creek, Ca.

We could not believe what a cute town Sutter Creek was. Grey Gables B & B was beautiful and Sue was really friendly, kind and helpful. We talked about recommendations for dinner and without even asking, she said I will call them and make a reservation for you! How nice is that? The room we stayed in was really nice and the bathroom was very roomy. Wi-fi is always a plus, too. :)

We came to Sutter Creek for a wedding and were so surprised to be nestled in such a beautiful part of CA. Sue & Roger were the ultimate innkeepers. Their home and gardens were lovely and our room was spacious, comfortable,clean and private. Tea Time every afternoon was a delight and relaxing time to meet other guest. The innkeepers were knowledgable of the activities of the region so on our downtime we could explore the history of Gold mining and CA State parks in the area. The morning breakfast was delicious and nutritious and a fun time to talk with guest about things to do in Amador County! We would love to stay at Grey Gables again if we ever get back to the Sutter Creek region of CA again!

Sue and Roger made our stay memorable. The rooms are very large and inviting. The wine and hors d'oeuvres in the afternoon were a very nice touch. When we are back in the area we will certainly be staying at Grey Gables Bed & Breakfast Inn. Great place and great hosts.

We had a lovely, if short, stay at Grey Gables. We were greeted with brownies and ice cream after checking in, which was very nice after the hot car ride. The room, the Shelly suite, was elegant and private. Their dinner recommendation was perfect. We went to the steakhouse and had a very good and very filling dinner. Sutter Creek shuts down at night, but we drove out to Jackson to catch a movie.

Glad I went! This inn is so clean and well cared for. The breakfast was scrumptious and the hosts were delightful!

The owners are very friendly, helpful and accommodating. We thought we were going to be a late check-in, so I called ahead and Sue was very helpful in making arrangements. As it turned out, we got in early and they were there to greet us and give us a little tour. They keep copies of local restaurant menus and are very helpful in making dinner reservations for you. We stayed in the Rossetti room on the top floor. It is a beautiful room with a King-sized bed and en suite bath. All of the furnishings look like antiques, which definitely goes with the feel of the house. The bed was very comfortable with lots of pillows, so all types of sleepers should be happy. The one thing I will say is that the room could be warm. Unfortunately, the air conditioner is in a little corner alcove, so you definitely need to have the ceiling fan on all the time to keep the cool air circulating, even at night. As long as you do that, the room is fine. We did not end up eating the breakfast, as we tend to be early risers, but I did have afternoon tea and the brownie was divine, so I can only surmise that breakfast was probably fabulous too!

A great place to stay. Everyone was very friendly and did everything they could to make our stay very enjoyable. And it was!

The house was beautiful, very quiet, old-fashioned yet modernized when necessary to make it very comfortable, the grounds were gorgeous, food/drink was great, owners were very nice, and accomodating. The only thing I would add would be a little bottle of body lotion to their assortment of toiletries!

We love Grey Gables. Been there twice and will return to the very same room, Tennyson. It feels like home in the Gold Country. Susan and Roger are delightful hosts and take such lovely pride in their establishment. It's a win-win! The tea hour, wine hour and fabulous breakfast are all pluses to the already wonderful feeling of Grey Gables. We seem to meet such interesting guests when we stay there. Such a positive experience. On our way up to Tahoe, we wanted to take a break and check out one of the smaller historic towns. A friend suggested Sutter Creek and so I did some research and decided to book a night at Grey Gables based on the brief write-up on the website. I had fogotten why B&B's can be such a great alternative to over air-conditioned, densely populated hotels. This charming B&B was not only gorgeous and unbelievably clean, the hosts, Roger and Sue were so gracious. I loved the little details at the home and every need was met. The homemade breakfast was phenomenal and the "Happy Hour" offered nice local wines and an array of cheese and crackers. If you're going through Sutter Creek, make it a point to book a room at Grey Gables, you won't be disappointed.

This was our third visit to Grey Gables Bed & Breakfast Inn. We have never been disappointed. The rooms are immaculate and the decor is beautiful, each of the guest rooms have their own unique furnishings and color scheme. The breakfast is delicious and Roger and Sue are friendly and make you feel welcome.

Despite 104 degree heat, we had a lovely time. The Inn is like stepping back in time to a more refined period. Breakfast was delicious, room was kept comfortably cool and very clean, innkeepers and staff delightful.

The innkeepers, Sue and Roger, provide an authentic English-style B&B that surpasses even the most charming of those found in the UK. During a heatwave of 107 degrees, the rooms were effectively air-conditioned; the gardens lush and green with fragrant flowers and shaded areas for sitting. Their graciousness and thoughtfulness extended into calling restaurants for reservations. Truly, this is a "golden" experience in the Gold Country.

We had a fantastic experience at the Gray Gables. The reason I rated the rooms only meeting expectation is because of their advanced web site, you were able to take a tour of your room in advance and book on-line. The hosts Sue and Roger were wonderful, the tea and wine hours were lovely and breakfast was just the right amount of quality food to start your day ! Not much to do in Sutter Creek but wine tasting in the Shenandoah Vally only 15 minutes away was wonderful. Would definately go back.

This was a lovely stay in a charming town. We stayed in the Keats room with easy access to the garden and to parking. The hosts provided delicious breakfasts as well as afternoon tea and wine and lots of guidance to sights and area dining. It was a very relaxing weekend. And, we would go again.

Roger and Sue make the whole experience effortless for the guest, which means that they're working hard to create a wonderful space for visitors to the Sierra foothills.

We would return to this B&B as our room was attractively decorated, immaculate and comfortable as well as the palor and dining rooms Our hosts were pleasant, helpful and appropriately engagng. We also liked that the house was in a nice neighborhood with easy and safe walk into the main street of town in which there were several restaurants for dinner. We especially liked the atmosphere and food at "Susan's Place".

This B and B is a charming little home situated within walking distance of Sutter Creek, surrounded by relaxing gardens. Sue and Roger whip up an excellent breakfast every morning and attend to any need you might have without making you feel they are hovering. We enjoyed every minute of our stay and will return soon!

Loved wine with Roger and the other guests in the evening! This is a delightful Inn with wonderful hospitality. The best part was meeting Roger for a glass of wine and stories in the main room at the end of the day. I've stayed in many B&Bs in New England and so often I never get to meet the owner. This was an excellant plus to our trip.

Nice location a bit away from the center of town, but an easy walk to access restaurants and stores. The room was lovely, spacious, and meticulously clean. And Sue's breakfasts were delectable!

The British owners have the concept of B&B down pat. Perfectly located home, neatly groomed yard and gardens, gracious but not intrusive service, spotless and tastefully appointed rooms, morning breakfast done with care, wine and dip served at happy hour. While the price was quite a bit higher than could be found elsewhere, they had an available king bed (a minimum requirement for me). Yes, I would go again, but not before checking to see if equally competent but more competitively priced alternatives were available.

We have stayed here several times and it is a great location for touring the Northern Gold Country and wine tasting areas, great rooms, and a fabulous breakfast. The Wadsworth room gets a little noisy in the early morning because it is in the front by the street that runs by. You can walk into town for several dinner places.

This was our second stay at The Grey Gables B&B Inn in Sutter Creek. I would recommend this Inn highly to anyone who wishes to have a very special get-away. The house and rooms are beautiful and immaculate. Roger and Sue are the best hosts I have ever run across--they are so accommodating and they truly enjoy people and it shows. My husband and I enjoy the "tea time", the "wine time"--and the breakfasts are incredible--over-the-top! We will continue to go back, as long as Sue and Roger are the innkeepers. They're the best!! I would recommend this B&B highly to anyone who wants to slow down and enjoy a quiet or a romantic get-away in a beautiful little foothill town. Grey Gables is a beautiful, clean, comfortable place to stay. It is within walking distance of downtown. The owners are so nice and helpful. The breakfasts are delicious. We loved i,t and can't wait to go back again!

As usual Roger & Susan are gracious hosts. They take very good care of their guests. Roger made dinner reservations for us at Susans Place. Meal was good a little pricey but the service was excellent which made up for the price. The second night ate at J&D Steakhouse prime rib tri tip sandwitch yum yum. The town of Sutter Creek is like stepping back in time. Everyone we met was helpful, friendly and courtious. Had dessert everynight at The Emporium, my wife said the apple cobbler was excellent and I had maple nut ice cream, which I haven't had since I was a kid. The two days we spent touring the winerys and visiting the shops was absolutly amazing. The tasting room for Seri Fiena Winery CINQUE was a blast. Elaine made us feel like family, spent a good portion of the day right there. All in all we had a blast and will be back. Thanks to all in Sutter Creek especially Roger & Susan.

Rooms were nice but the heater cycling on/off was quite noisy. We turned it off and relied on the fireplace to keep the room passably warm overnight. Also, lots of relatively loud conversations emanating from somewhere up until about 11- 11:30 PM detracted from the ambiance.

We have stayed at Grey Gables a few times and most recently on March 9th and 10th. We have had top notch service and accommodations every time as Sue and Roger are the ultimate hosts! We so appreciate how immaculate the rooms are and their attention to every detail in decor (love the fireplaces in the bedrooms) and their fabulous breakfasts. The evening wine hour is a great time to visit with Sue and Roger and the other guests and to get suggestions on places to dine, shop and wine taste. And don't forget to enjoy thier wonderful gardens.....beautiful when in bloom!
