I am sorry this guest was not happy with the Inn. They only stayed for about 20 minutes and we were told they did not need a tour of the Inn since they had been here before. I personally checked the "stained pillow" and saw no such stain. My housekeeper is extremely
sensitive about this. There were shoes for a 2 year old under the bed. They were left there unknowingly by my housekeeper's granddaughter and not by a previous guest.
The only antiques that have been removed from the Inn were items that were hanging on the wall in the breakfast room. They were essentially old items and could by no means be considered antiques. Some people even considered them an eyesore and some people considered them junk items. We have repainted the wall, added some mural type decorations around the windows and lovely pictures on the wall instead of old items. We have been told that the room is much brighter and more pleasant to sit in and enjoy since it has been redecorated.
They were offered another room but the gentleman insisted that since his wife was pregnant with twins, and that it was just better not to argue with her.
I had changed their reservation twice before, without penalty, and out of respect elected not to charge them for the entire amount.
I am sorry they did not give us a chance to make amends or take us up on our hospitality. 30 minutes in any place is hardly enough time to rate or judge any type of establishment.

I am sorry you found the eclectic atmosphere of the Inn not up to your standards. The building is over 70 years old and most people find it quite charming and cozy, as you will note from other reviews.
The rooms are not designed to be all of the same style. Instead, they are decorated in the style of the room’s theme. Tom Sawyer is decorated to have a feeling of that period. Such is the same with Arabian Knights and Swiss Family Robinson which is designed to have a feel of a tree house. Captain’s Quarters is designed to look like the quarters for the ship’s Captain. All of the other rooms reflect the theme of the room, which may explain why you think the rooms have that “Goodwill” feeling.
Some people find it quite delightful and enjoy the fact the rooms are themed and not the same as in a “cookie cutter” traditional hotel. Since I am not sure which room you may have stayed in, I can not speak to that specific room. All of the rooms have the carpets shampooed and window coverings cleaned twice a year.
All of the staff, both restaurant and lodging staff, make every effort to ensure our guests feel comfortable and at home.
I am glad you enjoyed the food and the view.

Not sure when you came down for breakfast but our breakfasts always have included sausage and eggs, biscuits and gravy, fresh fruit, hot and cold cereal, baked French Toast, assorted bagels, English Muffins, Babybel cheese, cream cheese, jams, orange juice, coffee, tea and cocoa and a scrumptious baked French Toast with Praline topping.
If you happened to have come down early before 8AM, things may have been cold and not completely set up yet.
Sometimes people want to take off early before breakfast is ready. When that happens, I try to accommodate them with something. Even if it is toast and cereal. That may have been the case in this situation.
