Beware of the innkeeper here. I stayed here for the first part of my honeymoon and had a terrible experience. Our first full day, we woke up early and were unable to eat anything because there is no food available in the house (no snacks, nothing).... read more

Innkeeper Response
James House is known for its fine cuisine and food accommodations. This guest did not request a pre-breakfast snack or make a special food service request. James House commonly provides “take out” breakfasts for guests who have early schedules and ask for the service. As with any B&B or hotel the kitchen area cannot be left open for guests to serve their own food due to health and safety codes. When the guest was told that a cleaning deposit, not charge, was required for bringing in a personal in-house masseuse they hastily decided to make issue of it. Recognizing how disturbed the guest was management quickly and pleasantly agreed to waive any deposit. An extra cleaning fee was not even charged or made mention of in light of the fact that the guest’s masseuse left oil on the rug, some of the furniture and the walls. Other guests staying at James House Santa Barbara at the time actually apologized and consoled the innkeeper for this guest’s rash behavior.
