Monte Cristo Bed and Breakfast

Monte Cristo BnB is nicely situated in a beautiful neighborhood in San Fransisco. The master suite was well layed out, clean, homey, and nicely furnished. My only note of caution is make sure the online price of the room you book matches the price listed in the confirmation email.

I love it so much!!! Feels like home and makes me feel happy... I would come back to San Francisco just to come and stay here again. It's a magical sanctuary where I can escape from the world if I want to. Very highly recommend.

When we arrived we were heartily welcomed and made to feel comfortable. Our room was small, but space was very smartly used. It was clean and felt very good energetically. I was so happy to be on the first floor. This has not often been my experience in other b & b's. Every morning we were offered a generous, homemade breakfast , and we ate in a charming, pleasant atmosphere. The location of the b and b was very convenient for us, and we enjoyed that section of San Francisco. I would be happy to return on another visit.

Staying at the Monte Cristo Bed and Breakfast was a pleasure!! The attention to detail is apparent in every aspect of this B&B. Jack, the owner who greeted us, was very welcoming. The room was beautifully decorated in antique furniture, with the latest bath facilities. Everything was very clean and lovingly taken care of. The breakfast was delicious with a wide choice of fresh and dried fruits and nuts, cereals, yogurts, chocolates, herbal and black teas, and fresh brewed coffee as well as cooked dishes from the kitchen. The location is in a lovely area of SF with easy access to public transportation. It is reasonably priced and we highly recommend it. Terry was the perfect hostess - warm and welcoming. Thank you!!

Our family just completed a wonderful weekend in San Franciso at the Mote Cristo. What a welcome pleasure it was to spend it together at this fabulous B&B. The staff were lovely and helpful, breakfast was generous and tasty, the rooms were comfy and parking nearby was not a huge issue (as it can be horrible to try to park in San Francisco).

First of all, I had no expectations and was somewhat apprehensive about going to a B&B in the City but this place was a lot of fun to stay at for the weekend. The free WIFI, free parking, uniqueness of the building and rooms and the general location within S.F. made our trip totally awesome. I would definitely look to stay there again and would highly recommend this place.

I spent two nights - Thanksgiving Day and Friday at the Monte Cristo. Same as last year. My friends live on Bush St., just around the corner. The room was small but nice. The breakfast was quite good. The art, decorations, and magazines were excellent. I would recommend it strongly.

I was warmly greeted upon my arrival. As a female by myself, I felt very safe and comfortable. The staff was approachable and helpful. I found the Monte Cristo lovely and I plan to return with my mother in a few weeks. The dining review is average is inaccurate. I tried not to rate it as I did not eat there.

The staff was very friendly and natural, the food was delicious and plentiful, the building fantastic.

The staff were wonderful, accomodating and friendly. The room had little extras such as a rainforest shower and heated towel racks. The breakfast was outstanding and service was great with fun and friendly staff. Loved this place and will return again!

What a delightful discovery! Very nicely redone B&B, with the most comfortable bed I may have ever slept in! The breakfast was fit for royalty, and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Would definitely recommend to my friends.

I took my girlfriend to this perfect B & B by the Bay for her Birthday. She loved the place, very romantic and a great breakfast! Also, we had a nice city light view of downtown SF. This is a nice Victorian B & B located in Pacific Heights, which is one after another Victorian homes all along the streets. There are several walking tours in this neighborhood. This is a little off the beaten path, cabs ranged from $10 to $25 to different areas. One block away on California, which is a major street running to the bay and downtown, where you can get a cab or a bus ($2.00). We had a great time and Jack was very helpful. We both give five big stars. This is truly a special fine.

Firstly, Jack was super helpful, and made everything easy for me, even though my husband and I were showing up late on the night we were staying there. The building looked drab on the outside, and the security gate made me a little concerned at first, but once we were inside, we saw how lovely the house and the rooms were. Jack and Carl have done a great job modernizing the rooms while keeping a vintage feel overall with the place. Our room was clean, and the furniture beautiful. The breakfast was also very tasty - a deluxe continental with fresh fruit, granola, milk, juice, dried fruit, and mixed nuts. They also had eggs made to order. That particular day, they had a bacon quiche that my husband thought was delicious. Since I don't eat meat, they kindly made me scrambled eggs and toast, and would have made a veggie omelet too. The price was a bit high for me, but these were very nice and intimate accommodations for a somewhat higher price than what we would have paid at a hotel. Advice about parking: at the time of our stay, only the north side of Euclid was available for unrestricted parking. Check with Jack before you go.

This is the best B&B we've ever stayed in! The bed was comfy, it was clean, the breakfast was amazing with tons of choices. The only problem was that it is a bit out of the way from touristic sightings.

This B & B has historical charm with modern updates in the rooms. It was clean and spacious & we had a delicious breakfast. The only downside was that our room had NO AIR CONDITIONING, FAN, or air movement of any kind, except for the window. We were on the second floor, but I felt uncomfortable keeping it open all night, especially w/o a screen on the window. We were in SF on an 80 degree day & this was too stuffy, even though we got back to our room close to 1am. I would recommend this B &B, but you may want to pack a small fan. The street was very quiet, even though there was the bus parking lot just down the street. I would love to go back, but now I know I will bring a fan with me.

Really enjoyed our stay--comfy rooms, good price, great breakfast!

We stayed in Room 1 with bedroom and sitting room, for four nights. The room was immaculate with a very comfortable king sized bed and recently redone bathroom. There were double windows so despite being located on a busy corner, it was very quiet. The breakfast was good with a nice variety of fruits and pastries, quiche and eggs cooked to order. The neighborhood is wonderful, with plenty places to eat and shop just down the hill from Pacific Heights: a walker's delight.

Stayed 2 nights for ourhoneymoon and simply loved the place. The owner ...Jack was a great host.

Room was nicely appointed even though it was rather small. Overpriced. Bathroom was nice but lacked space for toiletries. Innkeepers were very friendly and helpful. Great chocolate chip cookies and other snacks 24/7.

We stayed a week, and Monte Cristo consistently exceeded expectations. Our room was beautifully appointed. Attention to detail was everywhere, and personal attention made my 89 year old mother feel like a queen. I loved the changing variety of premium fruit every day, just one component of an array of delicous options. Cooked to order eggs were divine. Could go on and on. In short, highly recommended.

Nice selection of fruit and pastries, but the cooked kitchen breakfast selection is very limited. All day tea and coffee is very convenient and the staff is very helpful. This is more of a boutique hotel with a breakfast than the usual cozy bed and breakfast feel.

The owners and staff of The Monte Cristo are really the kind of people you want running a BnB; they are friendly, accommodating and supportive. From the moment I walked in an checked-in with Jack to the morning breakfast that was sometimes brought to my room because I was on a conference call and couldn't make it downstairs in time to the safe keeping of my luggage for half a day after I had checked out, The Monte Cristo felt like home !! Jack and Terry thanks for making my time in SF a great success!! I will be back at The Monte Cristo for sure !!!

My stay was very pleasant, no disruptions. My room was big and comfortable. I loved the contemporary bathroom. The service was friendly and helpful. They have a computer available for guests, so I was able to print my airline boarding pass; the amenities were a big plus: blow-dryer, iron and ironing board and portable fan. Public transportation near by. I felt safe staying here alone. I highly recommend the Monte Cristo for anyone traveling alone.

The staff was so accomodating; greeting us on a late-night arrival, helping with car and bike rentals, and producing a delicious breakfast daily. It's like staying in a big house in the middle of a city and was so nice and quiet. The bus was just a quick block or two out the door to get around. We'd go back in a minute!

Lovely B&B in beautiful Pacific Heights area. Easy walk to some nice shopping and restaurants. Our room, #16, was quiet, clean and nicely appointed. The breakfast quiche was excellent as well as the assortment of fruit, muffins, yogurt, etc. The cookies and/or cake that were available in the afternoon and evening were also delicious. Coffee and nice selection of teas always available. We would definitely stay there again!

Although we stayed only one night - it was great. Everyone was friendly and the breakfast was delicious. WIll definitely return for more stays.

What a great surprise the Monte Cristo was for us as it exceeded all of our expectations! The unique decor added to the old world ambiance,but better yet the service was of old world style as well; by that I mean, intimate and personal, caring and accommodating--none of this "refer to it on our website" or "call later." The breakfast in the cozy dining area of the facility lends itself to make new and immediate friendships as couples enjoy homemade quiche or eggs cooked any style along with a wide variety of scrumptious breakfast buffet items, including yogurt, fresh and dried fruit, cereals, juices, delicious coffee or tea and decadent pastries. I highly recommend staying at the Monte Cristo which is located near so many of San Francisco's grandest attractions, convenient to public transportation, super restaurants, shopping and more!

The room was historic and well appointed. The bathroom was small but functional, (hair-dryer included) and everything was clean and neat. Breakfast was outstanding each morning with eggs cooked to order and fresh fruit. The staff was friendly and helpful always! We loved the area. There are wonderful Italian restaurants just 2 blocks up, and the Presidio is at the end of the street, and an easy walk through it takes you to the base of the Golden Gate bridge. Beautiful!! A great little Bead and breakfast. Great location with great bus service to the hub of the City and in a quiet community. Great restaurants within walking distance.

My wife and I stayed here for one night during a stay in the Bay Area. Before we had stayed near Fisherman's Wharf and didn't enjoy the crowds and touristy atmosphere. At the Monte Cristo, it felt much more like true San Francisco. The building is old and historical, and some might find that too cramped, but we loved the atmosphere and did not mind the small bedrooms. The staff was incredibly friendly and breakfast was fantastic. On top of that, you will do no better as far as cost goes for lodging in San Francisco unless you use a discount site like hotwire, which leaves you guessing where exactly you'll end up. When we return to the Bay Area, my wife and I would be very likely to stay here again.

We were extremely happy with our stay at the Monte Cristo. Everything was top notch - the rooms, common areas, and breakfast were all wonderful. The owner was very personable and accommodating. The location was good - a nice walk (with a few steep streets) to Union Street and the Marina district. We would definitely stay there again!

Great location for a wedding we were attending in the neighborhood, and reception at the Presidio of SF. Close to Golden Gate Park museums et al. Laurel Heights district had great delis and small shops, too. Pretty far from main tourist attractions but quiet location, historical character of the inn, reasonable prices and availability made it a very good choice for our stay.

The Monte Cristo B & B was everything we could want, and more. We stayed in Room 10, nice and cozy, warm and inviting, with a nice queen bed. There was plenty of room to store our clothes and luggage. The breakfast was always good and got even better every morning when Terry welcomed us, and asked "Can I get you something from the kitchen?" We had no idea a warm breakfast was part of the deal! Terry and Jack were both wonderful. The nicest thing during our stay- I bought champagne to celebrate my boyfriend's 50th birthday, and found nowhere to keep it cool. So I left it in the room in the sink to keep cool. When we came back for the evening, it was in a bucket full of ice, with two champagne flutes. You couldn't have done better to make a special night any nicer. THANKS- a great intimate hotel, and a great value.

We only got 1 night and had to catch a flight before breakfast. The value is very good and the location is great.

My husband and I stayed at the Monte Cristo for our anniversary. The staff was nice, the Monte Cristo was cool and historic, and we really liked our room. F(or having one of the cheapest rooms there, we definitely did not feel it.) Would most definitely stay there again!

Sadly, we only got to stay at the Monte Cristo for one night. We would have loved to stay longer! The bed and breakfast is super charming, and we loved the decor of the Gothic Room where we stayed. We were located on the street side but didn't notice any city noise. It was also super easy to find parking nearby. One of our favorite parts was breakfast the next day - excellent cooking and such a charming breakfast room! A great value for the city.

I enjoyed my stay at the Monte Cristo. It was my first experience at a B&B. It is a home away from home. The Pacific Heights shopping and dining area are within walking distance. Several Muni bus routes come close to the area, and from that you can get downtown or anywhere else through a transfer. If you have a car, you may have to park a little ways away since the only parking is on the surrounding streets, but that's no big deal. Overall, an enjoyable experience on my annual trip to San Francisco.

My husband and I stayed at the Monte Cristo for our 25th anniversary. The place was pleasant, clean and quiet. We enjoyed the breakfast each morning, and the woman who made it was so pleasant and charming. The innkeepers were always willing to offer help and suggestions. It was close enough to the middle of the city that it was easy to get there, but you were not overwhelmed by tourists! I would really recommend this Inn....

The best things about the Monte Cristo are the breakfast and the staff. Breakfast is terrific and the staff are friendly and accommodating. The rooms are tiny and a little dark for my taste. They are beautifully furnished and the bathroom is small but luxurious. I think it is a decent value especially if you like to start the day with a nice breakfast. Also coffee, tea and cookies are available when you return tired in the afternoon.

Loved the bathroom Toto addition. Room is small but adequate. Public transportation close and easy to get to race start and back. Quiet area and short walk up to Prescidio and beautiful overlook of Marina and beyond. Would stay again.

We've now stayed at the Monte Cristo three times and each time have been delighted. The rooms are wonderful - full of character and history, yet wonderfully "updated" and very comfortable. Not large - but we are almost never in the room, so that doesn't matter for us. The location is fantastic - so close to everything in Laurel Village.

Room was comfortable and very quiet, with a very comfortable bed. Breakfast was delicious with lots of options. Service was good and the location - though not right in the heart of a "happening" part of San Francisco, provides easy access to the Marina through the Presidio, shops/restaurants on Sacramento Street, and straight shot down California Street to downtown.

Great location away from downtown. Near a half dozen muni lines. We really got use out of our muni passes.; allowed us to explore some wonderful neighborhoods. Rooms were well appointed with some nice hi-tech touches. Would return any time.

Our 3 night stay in early July was very pleasant. Monte Cristo doesn't look like much from the outside but was perfectly nice inside. Clean, spacious room with nice bathroom, TV & wireless. Surprisingly quiet for streetfront room. Breakfast was fine.

We booked last minute so we expected a smaller room. Very clean, did I say very clean. Food fresh and healthy. Service was top notch. Nice quiet area in a great neighborhood. Street parking no problem.

Monte Cristo is a very nice, small B&B in San Francisco. The room was beautiful, not very big though. The only thing we were missing was fridge. Breakfast was very good, and staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel is not in the very center, but you can take a bus very close to the hotel and it goes to Union Square/other directions.

This is a great little B&B, tucked away in a very nice and safe neighbourhood, away from all the hustle and bustle of downtown, and just a stone's throw away from Golden Gate Park and Haight-Ashbury. It was very quiet and cozy, and has a lot of old victorian charm. Jack and Terry did a great job of making us feel welcome and comfortable, and made extra efforts to accommodate our vegan diet. Having a private bathroom was a bonus! And the bed in room 3 was so comfortable! We slept like babies! We'd visit again!

I spent 3 days here while working in San Francisco. I was gone too early to enjoy their wonderful breakfast, but they kindly put a box-breakfast together the night before for me. This place is very quaint and nice. In a first floor room, right off the street, it was too warm to leave the window closed, but it was a bit loud and exposed near the street when open, they need a fan or air-con on those first floor rooms. I have stayed here before and will again.

I stayed at the Monte Cristo because my sister was having surgery at UCSF. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Wonderful breakfast, with treats available almost around the clock. Parking is a problem. They were working on the streets around the b&b and it was difficut to find parking, without getting a ticket. But definitely worth your money. Rooms very comfortable and quiet. Shuttle to UCSF is only 2 blocks away, very convenient. If you can't climb stairs, be sure to ask for a lower level room that was very accessible for my sister on crutches the night before her surgery. I want to go back when I can have fun.

We like to stay at period Hotels if possible and this being a Bed & Breakfast was an added bonus. Our Room was terrific, super comfortable bed in a period finished room. Our breakfasts were outstanding with yummy hot quiches. Terri (I think that was her name..) who served breakfast was very friendly and helpful with our sight seeing plans. We would stay here again!

The Monte Cristo is a unique property that is still undergoing renovation in some rooms. The completed rooms are beautifully decorated, period appropriate, and very comfortable. We stayed in the suite because there were three of us and the hide-a-bed in the sitting area was made up when we returned in the evening, along with a small refrigerator that we requested for medications.. The B&B is on a busy street which is not a problem because sound proofing has been added to the windows. The bathrooms were complete with all the latest technology in warming toilet seats that also wash and dry, warming towel racks, and rainfall shower heads. The breakfast began with buffet choices of fresh fruits, bakery items, and cereals, followed by your choice of entree breafast items. The quiche that I selected was delicious. The Monte Cristo is a perfect choice if you prefer unique accommodations rather than hotel cookie cutter rooms. I am anxious to visit when all renovations are completed.

Our fourth stay at the Monte Cristo. Fantastic room, as always. Morning breakfast is fresh and delicious. Friendly staff, clean, and quiet. It's become our home away from home when visitng San Francisco to see our daughter.

We stayed in a beautiful, remodeled room with all the comforts of home. Plenty of outlets, comfy bed and pillows, large tv, heated toilet seat and nice shower. 2 sinks in the baythroom with plenty of counter space. Pleasant breakfast. Host was very helpful and friendly. Would definitely stay here again!

We stayed at the Monte Cristo 12 nights last year and recently stayed there again for 3 nights, We were welcomed back by the warm and friendly staff. Great location; away from the downtown traffic but not too far away. Their breadfasts are spectacular. It's easy to pig out on their breakfast, and skip the next two meals if you wish. The rooms are a little small, but still well worth the price. And prices for rooms at the Monte Cristo are very reasonable for San Francisco. This B&B is a good deal and we look forward to a third stay next time we're in town.

At the last minute I needed lodging a day earlier than planned to be at the birth of my grandchild. Fortunately Monte Cristo was able to accommodate me and my very late arrival. My room and bath were clean, quiet and comfortable. They were doing some work in the halls which I imagine will make it even more inviting.

need bus to get to downtown and main attractions, so be prepared to have to find out what bus runs where. owner should offer more info to guests on things to do and suggestions. he sort of leaves you on your own.

Delightful group, friendly and excellent service. A full 'cook to order' hot breakfast is included along with traditional continental fare. Parking can be an issue. Be sure you read the meter instructions and signs for the street cleaning days.

We stayed in #9, while the room is not very large the bathroom sure makes up for it! WOW they have recently remodeled this one I believe and the extra touches are wonderful. The age of the building is part of it's charm and so are the owners. Jack and Carl are delightful. They go the extra mile to make sure your stay is comfortable and that you have everything you need including afternoon tea time, newspapers from around the world and plenty of Delicious selections of fresh fruit, juice and other breakfast items. The very nice woman who was serving breakfast had the attitude that if we didn't see it she could get it... there was nothing we could think of we needed. Thank you Monte Cristo! We will be back. (before booking I would check and see if they are done remodeling the upstairs though, they are in the midst of replacing some of the wood floors although they were not actually working on them while we were there)

The room and entire building was exceptional. The service was great, and for the price you couldn't ask for a better location!!

Very quaint and warm feeling with a wonderful breakfast. However, parking was an issue for us. Only street parking is available and we were led to believe that there is "usually a spot". Not so, my husband had to drive about and parked 2 blocks away. I am unable to walk that distance and was very surprised that there wasn't a designated handicap spot anywhere in the vicinity. If you have a business like this, then a handicap parking spot should be readily available.

Our second stay at the Monte Cristo. We have enjoyed both stays very much. Very nice room (we've been in the same one both times) and a great breakfast. Convenient to public transportation. Walkable to Marina, Cow Hollow, Fillmore St. Had a car this time and didn't have a problem finding parking on the street.

Under construction, so the place was a bit of a mess. Found a pill (medication) on the floor when I checked into my room and the shower was tiny which was okay but the water changing temperature drastically to super-hot to super-cold was not okay. The place has amazing potential and I am sure the couple fixing it up will do a great job. Very nice people. Once the renovations are complete it will be stunning. Great service. Great food.

this was the second time we have stayed at this Band B. the staff were very friendly and we plan on returning when visiting SF.

My husband and I have stayed twice at the Monte Cristo while visiting our daughter at USF. We love it. It is quiet, beautifully furnished, small, friendly and unusual. The rooms are not huge, but are very comfortable and the sheets and the bed were perfect. Breakfast is just right - lots of fruit, yogurt, granola and other healthy possibilities, and eggs if you want them. It's hard to find anyplace in San Francisco that one would call reasonably priced, but the Monte Cristo is very good value and very pleasant, in a neighborhood that has few other options. We'll be making it our regular stay!

My 2- day stay at the Monte Cristo Inn was a very pleasant one. I stayed at the Versailles room which was across the kitchen. Though there was noise in the mornings, it was not horrible- expect the same noise level you have at home. You can expect to hear some street noise like firetruck sirens so don't get this room or ones on the ground floor if want an uber quiet room to get some sleep. Breakfast was good.. You can ask Terry to whip you up some egg dishes for you. Definitely no ghostly activities! One thing I do wished was a hanger & stand where I can hang my clothes. There was a nice antique closet but was just an accessory. Other than that, it's great value for your money. I'd definitely stay at this place again especially if it's at a conference in UCSF (Laurel heights campus)!

My third stay there. The service and food/beverage provision were excellent. Had a very early plane at departure but was able to get breakfast at 4 in the morning! The room was a bit less desirable than ones I had been in before, with no desk space for a pc., though and an awkward wardrobe closet. The ambient temperature in the public spaces was a bit cool but the room was fine.

Very convenient to the wedding and reception I attended in the cute little neighborhod. Quiet, very comfortable, snug, lovely, clean and well-appointed room (downstairs facing street so not private). Good home-cooked breakfast. Thanks for the stay!

We have stayed at the Monte Cristo three times over the last two years and have never been disappointed. The staff is friendly and professional. If we need anything they are right there to help. The breakfast is the best ever for a continental style. They will even cook eggs if you would like. We will stay there again and again.

Beautiful hidden gem is San Francisco. Jack and Carl couldn't have been any nicer! When you walk in, you feel as if you entered a time warp that led you to the the early 1900's. The furniture to the wall paper to the fixtures are beautiful. The wooden staircase that leads you upstairs creaks perfectly to lend to the ambience of the place. Our room " The Red Room # 12 " was cozy, comfy and inviting. My girlfriend and I will definitely be staying there again in the future.

The Monte Cristo is in a centeral location and is a tremendous value. The staff was welcoming. The bed was comfortable and the room was larger thn expected. I would stay again!

I was looking for a place in San Fran and there was a conference that almost all of the hotels taken up. I had never stayed at a bed and breakfast before and was very reluctant. But this was in my price range and I took a chance. This place was beautiful and elegant. The beds were VERY comfortable. The shower was fabulous. (my two first requirements). there was free wifi and means to print my boarding pass for free. (Bonus). THe breakfast was ok, but i was rushed so i'm not sure i gave it a fair shake. The building is old and i could hear the person above me walking around...that was annoying, but not a deal breaker. I appreciated the flat screen tvs and there was heat in the rooms. All around, they not only met my hopes and expectations, they exceeded them. I'd definitely stay here again.

The Monte Cristo's building was erected around 1875 and was once a brothel. It's low-budget Victorian, with small rooms and narrow hallways. My room was the cheapest and also the smallest and darkest. It faced the street on the ground floor and was shuttered for privacy. But a bargain for San Francisco. The breakfast was good, with good orange juice and plenty of fresh fruit. I don't eat bacon so the quiche didn't tempt. The owners and staff are pleasant and professional.

Recently my parents came to visit me in San Francisco. Finding them a place to stay was a challenge. I live in a part of the city not convenient to Union Square, or the Financial District, where most of the city's hotels are. Plus, those parts of the city aren't my favorites and wouldn't be too interesting to my parents because they're geared FOR tourists and don't reflect so much the "real" San Francisco. So, if you discount Union Square and the Financial District your choices are far fewer. My parents weren't exactly on a budget, but since they were staying a week didn't want to spend $400/night on a grande olde hotel of San Francisco in Nob Hill. And they have very high standards, so some shabby place wouldn't do. We also thought it would be nice if they were not far from my neighborhood. So I researched and visited pretty much every BnB in the city that met our criteria. Monte Cristo was the tops. When my parents arrived they were warmly greeted and (being 82 years old) their bags were carried upstairs, which was much appreciated. They adored Jack and Carl, and appreciated the friendly professionalism of all the staff. My parents are from New England, and physically reserved, but I could tell, at the end of their stay, my mother ALMOST hugged Jack, tho she returned to her senses and extended her hand instead for a warm farewell handshake. Both parents raved about breakfast each day, especially the fresh fruit, and mentioned things like the poached eggs were done to perfection. They enjoyed their room, a California King with a brand new bath I'd particularly requested because I knew they'd love it, and slept well at night. Each morning my father would rise and take a walk in the neighborhood, which he enjoyed, and both of them appreciated they were able to get a feel of what it's actually like to live in San Francisco, rather than perch on top of it, like a tourist. They will most definitely return to the Monte Cristo.

We were pleasantly surprised with this charming bed and breakfast and had a wonderful stay. The Laurel heights neighborhood is close to great shops and the buses are close by for transportation. Jack was a wonderful help with everything we needed and the ladies who made and served breakfast were outstanding. Our queen room was roomy enough and the bathroom a good size, but there could be more shelf space for toiletries in the bathroom. We really loved the homey atmosphere downstairs, which gave us a place to relax in the afternoon and early evenings. We will be back!

Atmospheric, tranquil and charming retreat, but conveniently located on the busline. Staff are very pleasant and helpful, and the breakfasts, including truly fresh fruit, eggs cooked to order, and a range of other treats, get your busy day off to a great start. An excellent value, we thought--we'd go back!

I was in San Francisco for business and I thought I would give a B&B a try to mix things up a bit. I enjoyed my stay. The room was nice and bed was very comfortable. The breakfast in the morning was great. I plan on staying at the Monte Cristo the next time I am in San Francisco for business.

Enjoyed having bathroom in room. Room was quiet and comfortable. The breakfast were superb. Lots of resh fruit and eggs and bacon cooked to order. Will plan on returning.

Easy location to navigate. Within walking distance to food and libation. Charming older Victorian. Our room was comfortable- big, beautiful,cozy bed. The oversized shower head was delightful, however, there is no place in bathroom to put your stuff. No shelves , no hooks. The food was good. The price, decent. Would go back.

Right next to the bus line which was very nice. Clean and comfortable.

My husband and I stayed in the same room last year. We decided to book again because it was so pleasant last time. The place has loads of character, and improvements had been made to the room since our last visit. Breakfast good including a fabulous range of prepared FRESH fruit - melon, pineapple, strawberries, etc. Excellent fried eggs and bacon too. Good staff, great location for us (bus stops nearby). We will be back.

This is a beautiful bed and breakfast, built in 1875. It has so much history and charm. The proprietors are helpful and friendly and breakfast was fabulous. There is a water cooler for the guests and coffe and tea and cookies in the afternoons. There is even a computer with a printer you can use to print boarding passes! The place is close to a cable car stop but we had a rental car. It can take a few minutes to find parking for the evening. They also provide a map and a list of good restaurants nearby. I would recommend this place to anyone!

I was traveling alone, and wanted to capture the flavor of San Francisco and its history. The Monte Cristo is charming and beautifully furnished, with an old world touch but modern conveniences. Jack, the owner, was incredibly helpful in figuring out how to use the transit system which was important to me. The dining room hostess had a lovely personality and was fun to talk to. The food at breakfast was generous and delicious, and featured unusual food items that were fresh and wonderful. I would definitely come back to stay and recommend both the Monte Cristo and the surrounding Presidio neighborhood very highly!

Very comfortable stay. Bathroom was more than I expected. A little concerned about security with no screens/bars on ground floor windows. All in all a great stay.

Everything was wonderful from the first moment to the last.

The only problem that we had was the shower was dirty plus there was mold but would stay again just ask to make sure the shower was clean

We liked Monte Cristo. Our plane arrived late and we were greeted personally when we arrived. The room could use a little refurbishing but was comfortable and clean. We enjoyed the breakfast and found the location to be great.

Hello, My parents stayed in town in order to meet their six month old grandson. The hotel was clean and the breakfast in the morning was wonderful. They had a variety of food and my parents were very satisfied.

I just felt like it wasn't worth the $200 that I paid. I could have gotten somewhere way better for that price. The breakfast was nice though.

Parking near this b&b is difficult. It is well located for public transportation. A long walk to Union Square.

We loved it (even saw a hummingbird outside our window). Met many friendly guests. But the management is what struck me as truly extraordinary. We had to leave early due to a hurricane-related flight cancellation. The gentleman - without a second thought - gave us a full refund even though we were unable to provide his more that a few hours advance notice. We would most definitely stay there in the future.

Nice room and above all fantastic breakfast with awesome home-made pastries. One of the few hotels in the Presidio neighborhood, with family-style atmosphere and really good value for money

This fantastic bed & breakfast was a convenient block away from my weekend training and was exactly what I was hoping for. A quiet, cozy room in a lovely, historic house with both classic and modern features and amenities. The breakfasts were especially delicious! Great place - I hope to stay there again someday.

The free breakfast was AMAZING. Eggs, bagels, fresh fruit, dried fruit, coffee, OJ, cranberry juice, the works! The service was awesome - they literally took your order for breakfast at your table.

Having never stayed in the Monte Cristo before we were extremely happy with our choice and would definitely stay there again. Jack and Carl made us feel like family as well as all the other employees. Food was wonderful. It was a great beginning to road trip.

It wasn't until the second day of our stay that we learned we could ask for things like eggs and bread for breakfast, other than what was displayed on the table. The second day someone of the staff asked us what we wanted.

The location was great as we planned activities at the Presidio. The inkeepers were very friendly and helpful. However, Room 3 was very stuffy, hot,no fan. We did not sleep well. Towels had a strong chlorine scent. Our first breakfast was excellent. The second day our poor server was harried, everyone must have come down to eat at once and she could not keep up. The price was reasonable for SF. Just make sure you get a different room!

Quite sincerely, this B&B is the best lodgings I've ever had. The quality of the design, the soft soothing atmosphere, the comfortable, private rooms with every amenity - I hope Jack and Carl keep this standard for always. They are very accomodating, and take every pain to ensure comfort. The room we had came with a plasma tv on the wall, plenty of furniture for comfort, and a design that really made us feel at home. Breakfast in the morning was a delightful assortment of fresh fruit, dried fruit, pastries and scones, granola cereal, and fresh juices. It was nice to have a healthy breakfast for a change. The location is great too; it's near everything you could want to see in the downtown area, the presidio, or the parks. Again, cannot recommend this B&B enough!

Both the owner and the lady in the breakfast area were very nice and helpful with all our needs. Nice and quiet atmosphere. Felt safe with the locked front door. Room was nice and clean. Sofa bed was not made up for us to be able to sit and enjoy our cookies and coffee together in the afternoon and then turned down at night. Sofa bed not comfortable.

A very clean, charming Victorian B&B with an interesting history, filled with lovely antiques, comfortable beds, and well updated bathrooms- and that's important! The breakfast room hostess went out of her way to serve us an be helpful. On-street parking was never a problem.

Enjoyed our stay at Monte Cristo. Jack made sure to go above and beyond for any travel advice that we had. He was helpful in his suggestions to restaurants and sights to see! For breakfast, we were waited on hand and foot. The two quiche that were prepared were fantastic! The B&B has an older look and feel, but with that, it had tons of character and enhancements that didn't take away from the stay. Best tv channel selection that we've seen to date! Would gladly stay again.

I can highly recommend staying at the Monte Cristo. The rooms are all charming and the building has a colorful past. Very clean and very quiet. The breakfast is top-notch, including a choice of hot dishes (quiches, eggs, etc.) as well as buffet of fresh fruits and pastries. Concierge availability is limited in the evening, and I would have appreciated warning about street cleaning (my rental car was ticketed). Number of rooms with bathtubs is small. A bit pricey, but so is all of San Francisco.

We came to Sf to visit my son & family. My daughter-in-law was told the cost would be a certain amount for a "neighborhood rate" The internet said a different amount. After a AAA discount our one night stay was yet another amount. We had hoped to have a reasonable priced place to stay on a regular basis. We enjoyed eberything about your place, but can't use it as often as we had hoped. We will return. V&R from Sacramento

We were delighted to learn that the Monte Cristo was once a brothel in San Francisco. The murals on the exterior are delightful. The room we stayed in was all we could hope for - wonderful antique furnishings. The fluffy bath rugs remind me that I need to get some new rugs for home!!

We have stayed at the Monte Cristo numerous times, both with the previous owner and now 3 times with the current owner. We will return again because the location is ideal for us and the rooms very comfortable and the breakfast is excellent. Don

The room was very comfortable, the breakfast better than I expected with a hot entree and the choice of toast, or English muffin. It was also located near a bus line and near an interesting shopping street. I thought it had more character than a hotel. We were also near the start of the Bay to Breakers so I could walk there. We would definitely stay there again.

My extended family stayed here for my daughter's graduation from USF. The B&B could not have been more perfect. The rooms are quaint, and the breakfast was very good. It is a perfect place for a large group -- it was a though we were staying at our own 18th century house.

This is a nice bed and breakfast if you are staying in the area. Convenient to everything in Laurel Heights (including restaurants, shopping and the UCSF Laurel Heights campus). Easy to get to the rest of San Francisco as well, especially south and west ends. Well kept, clean, lovely Victorian feel. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Breakfast is home made and delicious. I had a great stay at Monte Cristo and in the area.

Very nice, very quiet; super-friendly staff, close to many restaurants and bars. Lots of character, would definitely stay there again. Finding on-street parking close by was a real plus! Breakfast was wonderful: lots of fresh fruit, quiche, and more. All you could ask for before a day visiting the City :)

What turned me on to this B&B was not only its proximity to the deYoung Museum but it's antiquary turn-of-the-century appeal. Although my girlfriend was afraid of it being haunted, the most I found underneath the bed were a few dust balls covering the hardwood floor. There were a few other cosmetic attributes that caught my attention but what do you expect from someone who works in the contracting industry and has a knack for antique architecture? Other than that, the service and food were great, the bed was incredibly comfortable and so was the price. Thank you Monte Carlo for a memorable stay.

My husband and I spent two nites at the Monte Cristo and were very pleased. The room was charming and comfortable, the location convenient, and the staff exceptionally helpful and friendly. We would definitely stay again when back in San Francisco.

Our stay at the Monte Cristo was very enjoyable. It is located on two bus routes so it is easy and cheap to get to the ferry building area or Haight-Ashbury Area. The breakfast quiche in the morning was wonderful along with fresh fruit. The rooms are a little small but have everything that you will need. The staff was nice and helpful in finding things around town

We stayed at the Monte Cristo for 5 nights. The location was great. Right on a bus line in a pretty quiet part of the city. Not too far from the some of the main areas. The B&B was nice. The breakfast was good. Fresh fruit, bagels, eggs etc. We liked that they had tea, coffee and snacks available all day and in the evening. We liked our room which had it's own bathroom. Large enough that we never felt cramped. All in all a very nice place to stay, in a good location, at a pretty good price.

A little off the beaten track, but an attractive B&B with gracious owners, an historic building, and lots of ambiance. The rooms were small, very little closet space, and many baths are shared, but the beds were comfortable and entire experience was quite satisfactory. We have stayed there several twice and would do so again, because for us, the area is good and the accommodations satisfactory for a short stay.

This is a quiet, clean, bed and breakfast. I was in the City for a few days and did not want to fight the downtown traffic, so I chose to stay at the Monte Cristo. I was able to park on the street without much problem, the breakfast was always wonderful and the staff was exceptional. I will stay here again in a heartbeat. Room was a little small, but still a Great place!

My husband & I stayed for one night prior to going to the San Francisco Airport...GREAT location w/lots of FREE street parking...cute & historical spot...nice owner & staff members...GREAT breakfast...nice goodies left out for guests "until they are gone" included different home-baked cookies and rich dark chocolate truffles! The rooms are unique and the place is a definate "find"...rooms include FREE internet and hotel provides a LARGE bottle of water complimentary...what's not to like...?

Top rate all the way. If you are looking for a more quiet, relaxed, personal experience other than the business hotel chains down around the square, then this is the place. No parking fee either!. If you aren't use to the city then if you arrive a night its dark in the area and Presido is not a main street so you have to look hard to find it. It's a safe upscale area and Calfornia street has a number of places to dine only blocks away. The owners did a first class upgrade to the rooms and bathrooms, so they are very clean. My mattress was also top grade, the kind that melts around you when press your tired body down upon it. The breakfast can be made to order and the hostess/cook was very nice and I even stood and spoke to her in the kitchen as she cooked; it looks like a fun kitchen to cook in... maybe next time they might let me :)

Clean, good breakfast, good location; but I could hear the fellow across the hall clearing his throat all night long. Walls must be paper thin, and the doors not tight.

Feel at home the minute you walk in and speak to Jack, one of the owners. He smiles and makes you feel like you've been there before. We spent 4 nights there and enjoyed the authentic feel to the beautifully decorated rooms and charming dining/sitting rooms. Everyone who works there seems handpicked for their friendliness and attention to detail. The stairs creak as you ascend them, seemingly happy to welcome you back. The rooms are cosy and airy and beautifully decorated, without losing turn-of-the-century appeal. The breakfasts are delicious, with far more selection than anticipated. The B&B is across the street from 2 bus routes and is central to tourist areas of San Francisco. I would definitely not only stay there again, but recommend the Monte Cristo to any and all.

The staff at a nearby boutique hotel were kind enough to direct me to the Monte Cristo when they had no rooms available. Thanks! This was a pleasant surprise. Staff at MC were attentive and courteous. Breakfast was made available much earlier than the stated 7:30 am and was fresh and tasty. Room was quaint and had a nice view of a neighboring garden and downtown. I would readily stay here again. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

The Monte Cristo was very comfortable, quiet and quaint. The neighborhood seemed safe and nice to walk around. The bus was within walking distance and parking was not impossible. The breakfast was yummy with lots of choices. The staff was friendly and helpful. The bed was extremely comfortable and huge. We were looking for someplace close to our daughter's home and feel lucky to have found this little gem.

We had two lovely nights at the Monte Cristo. Small, clean room with bathroom included. Coffee, tea, fruit and sweetbreads available throughout the day. Breakfast was delicious and presented with graciousness. thank you for making our visit to San Francisco especially nice!
