The Red Castle Inn Historic Lodgings

  • Inn Details

Built as the city mansion for the Williams family whose ranches were too far from town to be convenient, the red brick Gothic Revival four story landmark termed the 'castle rising upon the hill' in 1859, is singularly unique in style and setting creating the experience of stepping into the 19th century. Meandering garden paths, Koi swimming in a moonlit fountain, Victorian sentiments, ceremony and entertainment transport our guests to that period known as the 'Tasteful Interlude'.

The hosts, Conrey and Marie Louise convey a warm, friendly atmsophere to their establishment. They are very knowledgeable about the area. The breakfast is fabulous. The location is quiet, peaceful and very beautiful surrounded by tall trees, and only 6-7 minutes walk from the main street with the restaurants and shops. We recommend the Red Castle Inn without hesitation.

We loved every second of our stay at the Red Castle. Our room was gorgeous and the breakfast each day far exceeded our expectations. I have to follow a gluten free diet and the chef provided delicious treats every day as part of the 6 course breakfast. My non gluten free husband could not tell the difference. One note, if you are a light sleeper, request a room on the side of the house away from the road. We stayed four nights and 3 of the 4 were fine but the last night there was high traffic probably due to Labor Day weekend.

This historic inn is filled with history, excellent breakfasts, accommodating innkeepers who are also knowledgeable about this part of Calif. This was one of the best vacations we have enjoyed. This is a superb location.

This was our third time staying at the Red Castle. We love it. It feels like being in a victorian tree house since forest surrounds the 4 story home. It is walking distance to Nevada City.
