St. Bernard Lodge

We have stayed at the St. Bernard Lodge many times and we love it. Jim and Sharon are amazing Inn Keepers and always make you feel right at home. Food is great and the tavern is SUPER fun. Rooms take you back in time and are always clean and cozy. Our kids love it too. Perfect location for all the activities in the area and there are many. Can't wait for our next visit in July.

This was one of the nicest, homey B&Bs. The people are wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

My husband and I have come here for many years, as our winter base for exploring Lassen Park. We love it! The service and food are exceptional. The breakfast that is included is immense -- we pack the leftovers for lunch and then some. Great personal attention and accommodation of recipes as we are both gluten-free. The owners are kind, generous, and enjoyable to talk with; truly a delightful place!

My husband surprised me for my birthday to goto the St. Bernard Lodge. We took our horses with us, and had a blast! The food was beyond wonderful, service & hospitality was great, and the rooms were very clean and tidy! The trails were nice and the lodge provided nice pipe corrals for the horses to stay in. We will DEFINITELY go back!

Nice room, quiet location in the woods, friendly and helpful innkeepers and wonderful food. The meals featured freshly-baked items, the breakfasts were ample and delicious...for dinner, we especially liked the fried chicken.

The hardwood floors are loose and made noise every step you take. It's unsettling at night when you're trying to sleep and people are walking around or getting up to use the bathroom. The walls are paper thin, so you also hear everything from both sides of the room. The shared bathrooms don't have locks, just a chain, so expect strangers opening your door 1-2 inches several times before realizing someone is in there. It's almost impossible to get a night's rest and not the best shared bathroom experience. We also waited for the owner for 15-20 minutes to ask for a to-go box as she just ignored the entire dining room and chatted with a guest. We ended up walking up to her and apologizing for interrupting to ask for a box. Then 5 minutes later, when we had to check out, we once again had to go find her and interrupt her conversation. This put us 30minutes behind our schedule. She never apologized for or even acknowledged the fact that she was not attentive or let us wait. Truly the worst service we've ever gotten at a B&B. We stay at them often.

My wife and I love this place! Jim and Sharon who are the Inn keepers were very friendly and gave us a lot of insight to the things to do in the local area. The lodge is close to Mt. Lassen Volcanic Park which is a beautiful scenic drive, great for pictures, hiking and picnics during the summer and fall. Jim and Sharon also told us about all the winter activities. We also visited Lake Almanor which is fifteen minutes away. What a beautiful lake! We drove around it and saw some great vistas with Mt. Lassen as the back drop. This would be great place for family's who enjoy boating, waterskiing, fishing etc... Sharon explained that there is a great hiking and biking trail that goes around the lake as well. Jim showed us the "Lightening Trout" that they have in their pond. A very unique breed of yellow trout with an orange strip, a fish you must see to believe. The rooms were very comfortable and even through you are close to the road there is very little traffic, especially at night. In the evening we had drinks on the deck and enjoyed the sunset and then went inside for a great dinner. My wife and I loved the Clam Chowder!! She had steak and I had Scampi, both were delicious. After dinner we relaxed in the lounge area where other guests sat at the bar and played pool. It was a very friendly and family oriented evening. We strongly recommend the St. Bernard Lodge and will return this winter to visit Lassen Park for the snow shoeing and cross country skiing. Maybe we will try the Snowmobiles, Jim and Sharon have a number of groups who come every year when the snow gets deep.

The location near Lassen Volcanic National Park was perfect. The room was more than adequate in size and very clean, the food delicious. Jim and Sharon were delightful hosts. They shared their local knowledge and made sure we had everything we needed. We would recommend this B & B to our friends and family. Lisa & Dave A.

The description is so false that it makes us wonder if "BedandBreakfast.com" even bothers to check the sites themselves, or ever verifies the claims of the house owners! This place is NOT quiet! It sits practically ON THE ROAD which is a busy highway (route 36E). In the photo of the inn, those posts sit at the edge of the sidewalk and RIGHT THERE is the road! All day and all night, large, heavy logging trucks rumble past making a huge racket. The place is not air-conditioned, so we had to keep our windows open because it was very hot upstairs. We slept very little the whole time! Unfortunately for us, we had pre-paid so we were stuck staying there! Secondly, the food was DREADFUL!! Dinner was greatly overpriced, poorly cooked and there were few choices. The rolls had been heated in a microwave and were clearly from the supermarket. The "breakfast" was a set menu in the very greasy, old dining room. We had a choice of eggs, pancakes, etc., and the traditional breakfast meats. They raved about their home fried potatoes which were greasy and tasted as though they were the frozen kind, just a bit doctored up. There were no fresh baked goods or muffins, no yogurt, no fresh fruit. The "tavern" which is their common room, was dirty and furniture was badly scratched, stained and had burn marks. Just two board games were in evidence and they did not have all the pieces. There are only two bathrooms to serve SEVEN bedrooms - very, very inadequate! Worst of all, the innkeepers were unfriendly and not accomodating, We went out for dinner and arrived home fairly early (around 7:30) to find that the tavern had been locked up and the other guests were sitting on the picnic table outside (no chairs!) The "hot tub" was closed up and padlocked.

Jim and Sharon (the innkeepers) are the sweetest people and were amazingly helpful throughout our stay. The breakfast was delicious and ample. I have only one caveat: The lodge is literally a few feet from California State Route 36. If you are a light sleeper, make sure to get a room on the side of the inn away from the road! Phillip

Exellent place to stay. Close to many amenities in the area. The Innkeepers are very friendly and go out of their way to share their knowledge of the area with their guests. The food was great too! Will return next time we are in the area

we enjoyed our stay at st. Bernard's. Sharon was very accommodating about getting us an extra room when we needed it. the breakfast are delicious, and give you generous portions of food. dinners were also very good. i would love to go back someday.

The service and accomodtions were outstanding. The Breakfast was out of this world and made the visit grand and worth coming back for! The kitchen and other dinners were scrumptious. I will recommend the St. Bernard Lodge B&B to everyone I know.

Sharon and Jim operate the best B&B in Northern California, just outside Lassen National Park. Great food, attentive service, and very knowledgeable advice on what to do in this beautiful area, makes St. Bernard Lodge a great place to stay!

The hosts Sharon and Jim make this lodge/chalet something special, with great atmosphere and excellent cooking. It is close to Lanen Volcanic Park and the beautiful Lake Almanor.

I found the lodge to be very quaint and relaxing. Rooms were clean and space in the rooms very nice, not huge but a nice size. The food was outstanding, I tried several different dishes and they were all superb. The food was amazing for the size of the lodge more like the big fancy hotels I have stayed in. Loved it would go again soon.

Surpassed my expectations. Great views, downhome hospitality, superb food, unsurpassed accomodations, and close to everything. What a unique weekend getaway!!!

I traveled with my family and a dear friends family to this lodge for, I think, the 7th year to celebrate New Years Eve with this group of folks. There were approximately 18 of us and as in every other year we had a outstandingly good stay. The Service is very family friendly,and very timely. We had quite a few small children and they were all happy and well fed and treated as part of the lodge family. The rooms were homey and comfortable,The food was amazingly good and extremely plentiful. We took the gang to the local bowling alley which is family friendly also.There was plenty of snow for snowball fights , snowmen and snowangels. I would highly recommend this lodge, especially for families and groups. We have not had anything close to a negative experience in all these years, and look forward to many more in the future. This was our first stay at a bed and breakfast, but definately not the last. It had a nice atmosphere to it, and it was great the the way we could more naturally and easy share experiences with the other guests, becasue it is a small and cosy place. The people there were also very good at coming with suggestions to where to go and what to see in Lassen Volcanic Park. The food was really great.

We spent 1 week at St. Bernard Lodge close to Lasseu Volcanic Park. We had a great time. The plaace is charming, food excellent and hospitality unbelieveable. Thanks!

This is a quaint B&B located in a lovely mountain meadow. The rooms are charming--the owners are friendly and the food is excellent. My party included children and they had a great time. We all did.

St. bernard Inn is a welcome haven in a very rural area near Lassen Volcanic Park. The inn is cozy, the food wonderful, the hosts gracious.

The St Bernard Lodge was the perfect place from which to explore Lassen. Sharon was very accomodating and knowledgeable about the area. The breakfasts are excellent and hardy for a good day of hiking.

Really enjoyed the hospitality, attention to my needs and my horses' needs, great food.

My finace and I booked 2 nights at St. Bernard Lodge at the last minute and had never stayed in a B&B before. When we arrived, we were greeted and asked if we would be eating dinner here and given our keg. The rooms and property are just as pictured and in fact better in person.

This was the nicest, homiest place, and the rooms were so old-world and lovely. The staff was friendly and the food was delicious!

We loved our stay at the St. Bernard Lodge. The lodge itself is quaint and cozy. The owners are super friendly and accommodating. Beautiful grounds and can be kid friendly. Would be a great place to go with a large group or family reunion.

I didn't know what to expect and was so pleasantly surprised. The rooms are quaint/rustic, but not funky. The service was wonderful. We were made to feel like honored guests. The breakfasts are phenomenal. We're not talking some dinky continental breakfast! A full breakfast consisting of eggs, breakfast meats, a mimosa, country potatoes and toast. This was a breakfast that kept us going well into the afternoon even with our expenditure of calories burned in hiking/biking. The Lodge is located 10 minutes from the town of Chester where there is a wonderful grocery store. I/we were extremely pleased and happy with everything and plan on returning.

Wonderful hosts and excellent food in a relaxed rustic lodge surrounded by deep forest. Only 20 minutes from Lassen Volcanic National Park- which was our vacation destination. We enjoyed chatting it up with our hosts over wine, excellent food and fresh, home-baked bread. Next time we'll ask for a room not facing the highway... and there WILL be a next time!
