The Whitegate Inn, built in 1883, is situated in the heart of Mendocino and guests can take a short stroll to town, restaurants and the ocean. Chosen "Best in the West" by Sunset Magazine, the English garden sets off the white exterior. Originally the home of the town's first doctor, today it remains an elegant Victorian with well appointed guestrooms featuring French antiques and fresh flowers. A full breakfast is served in the sunny dining room and guests enjoy afternoon hors d'oeuvres.

A caramel, pecan base, with layers of sweet French bread and thinly sliced Granny Smith apples, covered with another layer of French bread with Nutmeg and Cinnamon and baked soaking in an egg mixture with vanilla. Sure is good. Written about in "Bon Appetit" Magazine and the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.
