An added treat to your visit to this tiny hamlet is a memorable stay at Butterfield Bed and Breakfast. Five guest rooms; Stanza Italia, Country Corner, FeatherNest, Apple Sweet in the main inn, each with private bath and two with a fireplace, and our RoseBud Cottage with a woodburning stove, all create a cozy get-a-way. You begin your day with an elegant breakfast served in the garden gazebo or patio in the summer, or the parlor with its crackling fireplace when the chill of winter sets in. You end your day with homemade dessert in the parlor. You can spend your day enjoying the Julian countryside or just relaxing with a good book from our library out under the oaks in the fresh country air. Butterfield Bed and Breakfast has been awarded a 3-Diamond Rating by AAA.
The RoseBud Cottage has a rustic four-poster queen size bed and a full size futon sofa. perfect for a romantic getaway or a small family retreat. There is a small refrigerator in the back room, a private courtyard on the side, and a Vermont Castings woodburning stove.
Stanza Italia is a most romantic trip to Italy with getting on an airplane. An antique queen size bed and two wing back armchairs in front of the raised hearth fireplace make for an enchanting getaway. It is located just off the the rear gazebo patio and has an outside entrance.
The Apple Sweet is our tribute room to Julian's century old history with apples. It has a king size bed with the window seat overlooking the rose garden at it's foot. A comfy love seat for you and your sweetie to enjoy the fireplace is on the other side of the room. The tub in the bathroom has two rubber duckies just waiting to help you relax your cares away. There is a table for two just feet away from the outside entry to enjoy your morning cup of coffee and the crisp morning air.
The Country Corner room feels as though you've stepped into a country garden gazebo, two windows looking out over the hillside and rose garden below. I has a queen size brass & iron bed and two wicker chairs to wile away your time reading and relaxing. The tub in the bathroom has two rubber duckies waiting to help you relax your cares away. The outside entry is around the corner from the front porch of the B & B.
The FeatherNest is our coziest getaway down a private winding staircase from the parlor of the B & B. A full size feather bed sets next to the window seat with view to the rose garden on the hillside below. The recently remodeled bath has a large tiled shower. Open the windows and you'll likely hear the songbirds twittering away in the shrubberies just outside.

Our first experience with Bed and Breakfast was with Ed and Dawn. We plan on going back and creating more memories. Highly recommend!

Best B&B I have ever stayed at. Both Ed and Dawn are charming, they take time out of their busy day to chat and go the extra mile to ensure your stay is as fantastic as it can be.

My wife and I stayed at Butterfield B&B last summer for our first annivesary weekend. It is set on a quiet natural, but groomed piece of land with plenty of outdoor space for all the guests. There were plenty of snacks available and breakfast was perfect. Ed and Dawn maintained a very friendly, but professional relationship with us and the other guests, carefully selecting "community times" and sensing when we would want our privacy. They were also very patient with us as we adjusted our reservations to fit our budget. We plan to return for sure!

New Year's holiday was made special at this country inn. We enjoyed wonderful food, friendly and jovial innkeepers, a cozy fully equipped room, clean and a yard of trees, swings and the quiet of nature. All added to a value filled and enjoyable stay. Country comfort of the dining area seemed to relax all guests adding to the delight of breakfast. This inn is a real find in Julian, CA. Francis F.

Dawn and Ed are wonderful hosts who make you feel like family. Our first visit was for Thanksgiving and the Inn was full of wonderful guests. Each morning we had a delicious breakfast and great conversation. Our second visit was for our anniversary and we had the Inn to ourselves which was a nice treat. The weather was superb, the food yummy, and the Rose Bud cottage divine! We couldn't have asked for a better time and Dawn & Ed made us feel very comfortable. We look forward to our next visit!

Music and the gardens are a big part of life at Butterfield. Soothing music is always going in the Parlor along with a piano and guitar for your use and enjoyment. There are numerous sitting areas in the gardens with blooms year-round; roses, lilacs, daffodils to name a few.
