Fern Grove Cottages

I love Fern Grove and have stayed here several times. Everyone is so warm, welcoming and extremely helpful. The cottages are perfect, clean and comfortable. The breakfast which is included with your stay has fresh fruit, coffee, tea and the best fresh scones in the world. There is a bbq that guests can use and we usually grill our dinner and eat in. Take time to sit by the pool and just relax looking at their lovely gardens.

We recently spent 3 days at Fern Grove Cottages. We had a wonderful stay. We rented the small cottage which is fine for 2 people. The outside surroundings were absolutely beautiful, with all the trees and flowers. Everyone that worked there was very helpful and polite. The breakfast was delicious, homemade scones, biscuits and granola were to die for. They also had fruit, bagels, cereal, etc. We ate breakfast in the main dining room every moring, however, you could take it back to your cottage if you wanted. We were able to meet a lot of nice guests also staying there during breakfast. There was a really nice lady, at the front desk on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, (sorry, I do not remember your name) who help us decide which vineyards to see based on the type of wine we drank. Also she gave us discount coupons and free wine tasting coupons. You could walk to the small town or drive about 10 minutes to the beach, the Russian River was about 2 blocks away. We would recommend Fern Grove Cottages if you are looking for a relaxing stay and great breakfast!!!! Thank you again for making our stay so memorable. Gary and Virginia Powell.

Adorable place! We stayed in cabin 10 with the seashore motiff. Great attention to detail. Great 2 person spa tub for the romantics. Margaret was wonderful and makes you feel at home and bakes the best scones and biscuits for breakfast. Wonderul wine country! We will be going back!

we were visiting my sister in the East Bay and we decided to spend an overnight near wine country - after a day of wine tasting, it was lovely to spend the evening with the gas stove and have a picnic in the cottage. the rooms were small, but cosy. we had the big room, which had a chair in the corner. the kitchen area was convenient and well stocked for a hotel room. we would certainly go back again if our vacation wanders takes back to the area.

Fern Grove is a nice place for stay for a weekend getaway. It's charming, esthetically appealing, neat and clean, and close to shops and restaurants. This was our second stay at Fern Grove and I would gladly stay there again.

We had a lovely stay in one of the one bedroom cottages. The room was very clean, comfortable like being home! The spa tub was a blessing after a long hike to Armstrong Woods. Our breakfast each morning was delicious! And I particularly appreciated the attention to detail with regard to how the grounds were tended. They took wonderful care of us. We will definetly stay here again.

Everything was as described. The cabin was clean and comfortable and the location is close to everything.

We stayed a couple nights in April. The property is an old set of cabins that have been upgraded with modern amenities. We were in a studio cabin with a spa bathtub. It was very clean, comfortable and cozy. The property is comfortably rustic, meaning nothing trendy or pretentious. The grounds are beautifully maintained with colorful landscaping. Our innkeeper Amy was friendly, professional and very helpful not only with the property, but with events and attractions in the area. Her "binders of plenty" listed everything from restaurant menus to places to visit. Breakfast is Continental, but tasty with local bagels and pastries as well as fruit, granola and yogurt. Overall, an excellent place to stay in Gureneville.

This is a such a beautiful and peaceful setting, you hardly know you are right on the edge of town. The owners and staff are some of the most wonderful people and made sure everything about my stay was just how I wanted it. When I needed to extend my stay, they went out of their way to rearrange pending accommodations which included giving another party a pretty decent upgrade. Loved my room, the view and the deck. Am so glad I chose this B&B. Will most definitely return.

We stayed at Fern Grove a couple day on our trip around wine country. The cottages were great, nestled amoungst the redwoods. The people were very polite and were there to help. The cottage we stayed in was a good size, seperate kitchen. We would definately recommend the place.

Stayed here with friends (their 3rd or 4th time there) and LOVE the place. My title says it all, if you're looking for hustle and bustle and loud, go someplace else, please.

My husband and I had a wonderful, romantic weekend away. Quaint and rustic cottage just as I remembered it when I was a kid. Very quite and peaceful, within walking distance to everything, but it felt like we were the only two around. Breakfast was very good with tasty homemade scones, biscuits and breads. Innkeepers Margaret, Mike and Annie were very nice and accommodating. Will definitely be staying here again, very soon.

We had one of the smaller rooms, but it more than met our needs. The breakfast was simple, but more than we usually have. The staff made some wonderful suggestions for things to see and places to dine in the area.

The room was clean and had a swivel TV so you could enjoy it from the tub or the bed. The breakfast was ok with sweetbreads, yogurt, and fruit. The people were very nice and great location--we walked to dinner.

This is the first time that my husband and I had stayed at the Fern Grove Cottages. The staff was very nice, and made us feel right at home. The lights in our cottage were already on and the fire place had been set so the cottage was nice and warm. The bed was a bit hard for my liking, but that is a personal thing. We really enjoyed ourselves. The continental breakfast was filling, and we sat and talked with another couple while we ate.

Room decor was dated and bed was way too soft for our comfort. Continental breakfast was tasty, but the best part of stay was visiting with the innkeeper by the fireside. She gave us many suggestions of places to eat and wineries to visit and her knowledge of the area enhanced our stay. Plan on returning in the summer months, but will ask for a room with a firmer bed!

Fern Grove is the most charming place to stay in Guerneville. The owners are really charming people, and the staff made our visit very comfortable. When we arrived, the our room was already heated, and there was tea waiting in the common room. When we came back at night, there were plenty of DVDs and board games to choose from. I would definitely stay here again!

This is a perfect little cottage with kitchen for the get-a-way to wine country. The staff will give you expert advice on the wineries in the area. If you were my friend, I'd tell you to stay here. Enjoy!

We had stayed at Fern Grove about nine years ago and I remember the experience was generally positive but also that the cottage we stayed in was somewhat outdated and needed fixing up, like the bathroom, which had a beat up floor and an old shower. I was pleasantly surprised this time with comfortable, nicely decorated rooms which included updated flooring and shower. It was such a pleasant experience to sit under a redwood tree while out on the deck enjoying a glass of local wine. The beautiful gardens and large ferns add to a wonderful atmosphere. The innkeeper was extremely helpful, providing us a map and pointing out which roads to follow to find wineries that suited our preferences and making recommendations for a dining experience by the ocean that we thoroughly enjoyed. I can't wait to go again and will always stay at Fern Grove when in the Russian River Valley.

We stayed there for a weekend getaway in early fall and had a great time. The Fall season rate was reasonable. It was not too far from San Francisco and felt secluded enough from the main road of Guerneville to earn its name "Fern Grove". Restaurants were all within a short walking distance. The surrounding redwoods were soothing. The cottage itself was clean and comfortable with a great private porch to relax and read. Can't complain. Great jacuzzi. Didn't care much for the western decor, but that's just me. Enjoyed the very well landscaped property. The flowers and BBQ garden was a great place to eat our meals when it was warm. The entire property is mostly shaded during most of the day. The pool was a good size with a nice sun deck. It was almost too cold to swim, but we caught a two hour window of sun and even sunbathed on the nice deck. We had a great time and would definitely come back again. Don't go telling everyone...

Fern Grove is a very nice place and all employees were kind and helpful. The rooms are much smaller than expected. The breakfast is very crowded. Once people sit at the table, it is very difficult to get to the buffet area and many people were blocking access to the buffet as they waited for specific items to come out. That being said, we did have a good time. They provide two large BBQ's and we were able to prepare a fabulous dinner.

Fern grove was a great place to stay. Margaret the owner was very accomadating, and friendly. The breasfast in the morning was great. The lemon cured , jams , scones and granola were all homemade. The rooms were very retro, clean and comfortable. We would definitely stay again. The walk to town was short. The gardens on the property were beautiful. Pool was clean and warm.

we stayed 3 nights at the Ferngrove in mid-October., 2012. the inn was full with week-end cyclists. the staff was very friendly at check in.

We love Ferngrove Cottages. This was our third stay at Ferngrove. Margaret is a wonderful hostess that makes a bountiful continental breakfast which includes yogurt, homemade scones, sweet breads, and granola. The cottages are among the magnificent redwoods. Margaret and her staff are very knowledgable about the area and the wineries. She will even give you a passport for complimentary wine tastings. We will defintely be back.

I was very impressed with my stay at Fern Grove Cottages. The people were friendly and knowledgeable. Our self-standing cottage was clean, charming and very comfortable for two people. Our cottage had a TV, a small heater, a tiny shower, a queen size bed, and hangers and a place to hang your clothes. The cottage we were in included a wet bar which consisted of a sink and refrigerator. The grounds were lush with gardens full of flowers, fruit trees, vegetable gardens and surrounded by redwood trees. There is a common area equipped with two grills and a picnic table available for use. Free breakfast was included offering coffee, baked goods, yogurt, granola, fresh fruit, and juice. Places to eat, a grocery store and convenience stores were within walking distance. A boat dock was also nearby. I would highly recommend Fern Grove Cottages to friends and family.

The setting was very pretty, the cottages were just what you want a "cottage" to be. The staff was very friendly and the continental breakfast was a nice and well done touch.

To be clear, these are older cottages in the woods. And I fell in love with them. Smack up in the Redwoods, flowers and greenery abound, very peaceful. Main building where breakfast was served is very cozy. Continental breakfast more "personal" and high quality than you find in hotel breakfasts, though still fruit, assorted breads, jams, cream cheese, and ymmy granola and yogurt. Owner seemd experienced as all she needed to say at breakfast was, "My it's quiet in here" to get the table talking. Easy walk to town, which is 4 blocks long, to an assortment of stores and restaurants. Also a couple miles to beautiful Armstrong Woods (state park) which was a lovely morning walk/run.

This was our 2nd stay in 9 months. We came in January and enjoyed it so much, we decided to spend our anniversary here. Margrett has a passion for the wine country and directed us to several wineries that we really enjoyed. We would definitely stay here again. The room was small, but cozy. Nestled in the red woods, steps from the town of Guerneville.

Margret and Annie always put forth extra effort to make your stay enjoyable and relaxing. The warm cheese biscuits served for breakfast are a must! Also, the surroundings of tall redwoods and beautiful flower gardens are a comfort to the soul.

The place was more than we could have hoped for! The gardens were beautiful, the location was perfect, the room was cosy and plenty roomy, and the breakfast was phenomenal: biscuits, tea, coffee, fruit, bagels, toast, cereal, and all sorts of jams. Everyone was friendly and polite, too! We'll definitely be going back here again!

We loved everything about our recent 2 night stay! My husband and I came up from Phoenix and stayed in a traditional studio room that was nestled in the woods yet close enough to walk to everything in town including several dinner choices and live must at Main Street which I highly recommend. The river was a short walk from the property where they rent canoes and kayaks. The property is right out of a fairy tale with beautiful wild flowers and tall redwoods surrounding the property. The main house was a perfect gathering spot where we had the best homemade breads and fruit with granola and yogurt for breakfast. After touring the wine county one day we brought a bottle of wine back with us to share and Margrett was so gracious to borrow us some wine glasses to make our stay there complete. This is a perfect location to get to the Armstrong forest for a nice hike and then hit one of the many roads surrounding to go out and do some wine tasting. Margrett showed us so many wine tasting options in the Russian River area that we will need to come back here every year for the rest of my lives (which we plan to do!) to explore them all!

Outstanding setting. The flowers and other plants really kick this place up above others. The pool was really clean & so were the grounds. The folks there were very helpful & friendly. The only thing I would change is to remove the whirlpool type of tub in #11 and install a true shower. Other than that....very charming. Thank you!

we really liked our stay, the cottages are well equipped and spread in a nice location including even red woods. our little house comprised two bed rooms and a larger living room with fir place and kitchen. A balkony for sitting and eating outside was there as well, where we had our breakfast. The owners are kind and helped us a lot with direction etc. Our late arival was no problem at all. The place is a good starting point to explore the coast, coastal redwoods and all the winaries.

This was a great little town in wine country. The place was super cute and cozy. The staff was extremely welcoming and helpful. We received a discount to many of the wineries in the Russian River valley which was a huge benefit! Would stay here again and recommend to friends.

More than a place to stay, Fern Grove Cottages is a quaint and memorable experience. Friendly, accommodating staff, beautiful grounds and "creature comforts" make this a destination for our future visits to Northern California. Can't recommend it more highly!

I stayed in three B&B's on this trip and the breakfasts at this one would be at the bottom of the list, in fact, just above the Comfort Inn where I also stayed. Where the others had a sitdown hot meal with pancakes, sausage, eggs, ect., the only hot item here was the fresh bread (which was very good). Otherwise fruit (the same every morning), bagels, pastries, ect. Had to ask every morning for decaf. Not what I expect from a B&B. That being said, the advice about the area and about wine tasting was very good.

Margaret was a very informative and helpful innkeeper. Free wine tasting passes, heated saline pool, fresh breakfast and extremely beautiful landscape was key to our enjoyment of the cottage.

Nicely decorated themed sweet little cottages surrounded by a beautiful garden in a wooded forest. There is a wonderful breakfast with homemade scone & biscuits, fresh fruit and yogurt, bagels, coffee, tea and orange juice. The owners and innkeeper are very helpful and friendly. A great place to stay on the Russian River!

We just stayed one night at the Fern Grove Cottages, we received a very pleasant welcome, we just stayed in a studio cottage and it was more than adequate for our one night stay, everything was very clean. The breakfast the following morning was excellent and a great choice, including home made cakes!!

We spent four nights in Guerneville at the Fern Grove Cottages. The setting was very nice and we had a nice view from our deck. We had two rooms; a bedroom , living room plus a large bath room with jacuzzi. The rooms were very comfortable and decorated with a cowboy theme complete with a saddle set up in the living room. The complimentary breakfast was minimal, but the bagels, fruit and yogurt were all we needed and were quite satisfactory. I would recommend the Fern Grove cottages and I would stay there again.

This was a surprisingly marvelous and beautiful stay. The accomodations were wonderful and our dog was treated as well as we were.

Arriving at Fern Grove Cottages caused our immediate exclamation of joyous surprise since the grounds and cottages looked so cool and inviting. The plants and redwoods delight the eye and senses and the continental brkfst was a lovely start to our day. The innkeeper was delightful and very informed and helpful for locating things we wanted to see and experience in the Russian River area. We plan to return!

We stayed on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights for Vineman 70.3. We were happy with the room (1BR w/ Fireplace). It was cute and cozy. Ladies - you might want to bring shampoo, conditioner, and body wash as there was only bar soap and a bottle of combo shampoo/conditioner. There was also no iron so my clothes were a bit wrinkly but I could live. Breakfast was amazing...I am still thinking about it. The only negative was that breakfast didn't start until 8:30am, so if you are an early bird you have to wait. It was worth the wait though - the homemade granola was so good and the scones were hot right out of the oven. If you stay during either Vineman race, they will give you a breakfast bag the night before (bagel and pasteries) but only if you are racing. The location was perfect for the race, which starts at Johnson's beach. I would say the walk was less than 1/2 mile away from race start. We will be staying there again next year!

We have stayed at Fern Grove three different times. Every time, the hosts are friendly, helpful, and gracious. There was all new furniture in our cabin on our last visit. The saltwater pool is also a very nice plus. The continental breakfast is very good and the homemade scones delicious. This is a great place to stay for local events or as a base for exploring Sonoma County wine country.

I have stayed here before and was happy to find that things are as good as ever. The room was very clean, the breakfast delicious, and nice and quiet neighbors as well. Parking is easy, and the location is close to everything. Will certainly come back again.

The cottages are modest but charming, the location & grounds are lovely - a gardened redwood idyll close to Russian River recreation and all that central Sonoma wine country offers. The buffet breakfasts are ample and the price is right. But best of all for wine country travelers and foodies is the friendly & knowledgeable proprietor, Margaret Kennett, who can pinpoint your likes and direct you to exactly perfect wineris and restaurants that meet your tastes and also surprises you.

I had driven by Fern Grove Cottages many times and decided to treat myself to a one night getaway. Everything was an fab! From the lovely gardens to the large spotless pool to the sweet and cozy room. The morning breakfast was delicious and the guests at the morning table was delightful!. DO NOT STOP - GO! We went to California from Florida to celebrate our 26th wedding anniversary and after four nights in downtown San Francisco, we wanted a quieter place for our last three nights. Fern Grove Cottages was perfect! The grounds are beautiful and Margaret and her staff were very accomodating. They gave us great recommendations for dinner and the scones were were the best we've ever had. We will definitely be back!!

The customer service provided by Margaret and her staff were exceptional. She is masterful and charming and a true diplomat. The one bedroom cottage far exceeded our expectations. Separately, we had a mechanical problem (broken front door lock) and that was handled promptly. At checkout, I also noted a "rusty water/pipe" problem with the sink in the kitchenette and that was flagged for follow up. Ferngrove cottages are great value for the money and very dog friendly. We will be back and next time for a much longer stay. Thank you, Margaret, for a delightful first stay in Guerneville.

A splendid stay....service was remarkable....location beautiful...kind, kind people

I have been coming to Ferngrove in Guerneville for almost 10 years. It is always a pleasure to return. I had a free upgrade this visit. The cottages are easy to get to on the main road in Guerneville, next to a convenient taqueria, but the atmosphere is very quiet and adorned with splendid redwoods. I particularly enjoyed the salt water pool; no chlorine, which makes me cough. Friendly guests and staff; excellent scones for breakfast.

Our group of 6 had the most amazing time. We especially like the BBQ area. We shared it with another large group and had so much fun. The owners supply all the charcoal and utensils, and clean out the fire pit and BBQs every day. It is a great atmosphere for family as well as for a romantic getaway. And so central to everywhere. Margaret was also very helpful in pointing us to some amazing wineries!

We stayed a Sunday night. We hadn't been to Guerneville in decades. We chose the Fern Grove Cottages because we could bring our dog. After a meandering drive from the Bay Area (beautiful but tiring) we arrived at this magical oasis, on the edge of the main "strip" in Guerneville. Tall redwoods hugged the cabins, beautiful flowers and shrubs bloomed everywhere, obviously well tended. We checked in, went to our event, and happily returned, to spend the evening on our deck, simply amazed at the majesty of the redwoods, the changing sky, the serenity.

We had a very enjoyable stay at the Cottages last weekend in a Spa Studio. Nice rustic style with the wood paneled walls, the room had all the comforts one needs! Although the weather was not good, we took advantage of the jacuzzi tub in the room and also even swam in the pool, thankfully it's heated! Very nice grounds, the BBQs and fire pit in the garden were quite nice also.

A real gem - will be back! The staff were all super-helpful and the breakfasts to die for. Only a few minutes walk from the centre of Guerneville and beautiful drives to numerous wineries and the coast. The Russian River area is so much better than Napa; wine as good, if not better quality; far less pretentious; far friendlier. We will definitely base ourselves in the Russian River and stay at Fern Grove Cottages next time we want to visit the wine region.

Margrett and Mike were gracious hosts. We stayed there over our daughter's wedding weekend. She really helped smooth our nerves. The gardens and Redwood forest on the property are beautiful. Margritt and Mike have really worked to keep the "old Gurneville" charm alive. The rooms all remain true to the period during which they were built and are excellently cared for. They are a wealth of information if you want to use this as a home base for day trips in the area. Gurneville and Fern Grove are a hidden gem in Sonoma County !

This is a very nice place to stay. Located at the edge of town there is easy access to everything. The grounds are beautiful, lots of flowers, etc. The cottages are very clean and nice inside, The Queen studio is very small so if you require roominess look into an upgrade to a larger room.

It's a delightful place to stay and the breakfast is always fresh, homemade and delicious. It's also an easy walk into the town of Guerneville, which has a number of new restaurants that are really terrific. It's the perfect weekend getaway, especially for fog-weary San Franciscans craving some warmth and sunshine throughout the summer!

We really enjoyed our stay at Fern Grove Cottages. The simple cottage we reserved was clean and comfortable, the location was great, the value was great for the area, and there is a heated pool! We loved the provided breakfast (granola, yogurt, scones, biscuits, pastries, homemade strawberry jam and lemon curd).

My wife and I flew into Oakland the morning of May 11, 2012 and drove through Petaluma to the coast on the beautiful clear spring day. We made our way to Bodega Bay , Jenner and finally into the Redwood trees at Guerneville where we checked into the Fern Grove Cttages at 5 pm. Annie got us settled in and familiarized us with Guerneville relative to walking from our cottage. The next morning we met the owner, Margaret, at breakfast and she provided expert assistance for our quest to explore the Zinfandel wines of the Russian River, Dry Creek and Rockpile growing areas. She also provided a pass for free complimentary wine tasting at several wineries in the area, and this was an unexpected but very pleasant inclusion to our stay at the Fern Grove Cottages. I highly recommend the Fern Grove Cottages as a perfect launching site for wine tasting in the AVA's west of Santa Rosa.

Family weekend, a great time was had by all. Annie at the front desk made us feel very welcome and made the whole family feel very special. The beds could use new pads on them because they wrinkled while sleeping and made it uncomfortable. Thanks for the fun Family weekend.

Nice nostalgic stay. The cabin was roomy and the dog loved having a back and front porch to sun on. The breakfast was flavoful and had plenty to choose from. The fresh scones were amazing! I would stay again and have already recommended it to friends.

Cottages are located a short walk to downtown and are themselves basic accommodation. Prices were lower that other places but still pricey being a tourist town. The manager was very gracious and helpful with ideas for touring. The breakfast was delicious and had many nice touches. Extras like the barbeque and the campfire in the garden was also delightful.

Reserved this as a last minute addition to a mid-week trip to the Bay area. Very nice landscaping and cozy and comfortable furnishings. Also within easy walking distance of restaurants, stores and the Russian River.

Very knowledgable and congenial staff. Comfortable cottage with individual gas stove, microwave, fridge and coffee maker. Continental breakfast was very good although I wish it were available earlier (opens at 8:30). Despite the rainy weather the staff suggested things to do in the area. Free wine tasting at local wineries provided by the inn. Would definitely return.

The Fern Grove Cottages is a wonderful piece of "English" heaven. From the decor to the homemade jam and scones, it was such a cozy stay. Michael and Margrett were quite helpful with their recommendations of places to visit (as well as getting discounts). We will be back again!

Run by charming and attentive staff Fern Grove Cottages exceeded my romantic getaway requirements. Clean, quite, tranquil place to fall in love...on a budget! My partner and I were very comfortable in our spacious suite. Having a kitchen was the perfect addition to our lovely accommodations, as well. I have to say the continental breakfast was wonderful. Anyone who can make a great cup of coffee for us city folk will be seeing us again.

February 2012 was our third stay at Fern Grove, each time bringing more people with us! We had two separate cottages, a one bedroom and a two bedroom.

Beautiful room, well kept, wonderful service! We will be back soon!

We had a wonderful time at Fern Grove cottages. The cottage was spaciious and its setting among Redwoods was magical. The owner/host was very helpful in providing information on nearby wineries to visit. The breakfast each morning was superb as well. I highly recommend this wonderful place of respite.

Rooms were cozy and sweet. Everyone that worked there that I came in contact with were beyond helpful and nice.

No clock or phone in the room, but cell phone sufficed. Free wifi advertised, but could not connect. Proprietor said was not working due to usage and they were having upgraded soon. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely consider staying here again. We stayed in a one room cottage.next time we would likely consider a room with a fireplace.

Our cottage was quite small but cute, the gas fireplace kept it very warm. Bed was fine but could be a little firmer, bathroom small but adequate. The breakfast was quite good, continental but decent selection and quality. Service was very good. Good location if you want to be close to town. I would stay here again.

The cottages, dining room and grounds were so pretty and charming. We dealt directly with Carissa and Margrett, the innkeeper. Both were so helpful and hospitable. Our cottage had beautiful quilts and every immenity you might need. It was a wonderful experience. I will return and I have recommended it to friends.

A group of friends and I attended the Winter Wineroad. My friend suggested this place after she found it on an internet search. It had high ratings and great value. Chain hotels near the city were $300 plus. We were able to stay in a studio with spa tub for less than $200. Our studio had a deck and nautical theme. It was very cute, very clean and had everything we needed...including flat screen TV (the NFL playoffs were on :P). The inn owner was very nice. At breakfast, in the lobby, she made sure we were warm enough. Breakfast was exactly what we were hoping for, warm scones and other pastries. They also had delicious vanilla yogurt with granola. My only complaint would be that there was no stand up shower. You had to use a hand held, shower nozzle in the spa tube to bathe. Note: my friend had a one bedroom place and she had a shower so I think this complaint only applies to studios.

We are regular customers of Ferngrove Cottages and always enjoy our stays here. A very warm and welcoming place to stay in the Russian River area.

My wife and I were looking for a quiet spot to visit the local sites. Fern Grove fit the bill perfectly!

It was great to have a kitchen, dining table and living room for our family. Since we couldn't get together at home, this was the next best thing.

Stayed in cabin seven and enjoyed an evening around the fireplace. Very quaint cabin with two bedrooms. Only thing to be prepared for is that wood is not provided. Bought it from a guy selling wood out of his pickup truck at the Safeway. The provided breakfast is mostly breads and fruit, but all well-prepared, especially the amazing scones. Get them hot!

The studio suites were smaller than expected; the spa tub adjoins the bedroom and that is the only option for bathing, there is no shower in the bathroom. Except for that one small detail, our stay was wonderful, and the breakfast each day was yummy.

Fern Grove is a lovely place - Very charming and close to town which was nice The cabins are clean though a bit sparse on furniture - Beds are comfortable and we really enjoyed the fireplace. The continental breakfast was OK but very oridinary. Fruit salad, bagels and a few pastries . but they had great Coffee! It was a bit on the pricey side at 209 per night with taxes and fees

We loved it here! We stayed in earlu October and it was chilly so we didn't get to use the pool but these are definitely the perfect little rustic cabins. You are walking distance to town, located 4 miles from Armstrong State Park and only 14 miles to the coast. The staff is so nice and helpful. Our heater wasn't working the first night and they had it fixed right away. We will for sure be back!!

Fern Grove Cottages were very convenient for our trip between Russian River and Sonoma. Lovely landscaping and great value for money accomodation. Buffet breakfast excellent but it was the friendly staff that really score highly. We were warmly greeted on arrival. Check out and advice on visiting Sonoma where the stars are earned. Margarett ( I presume) gave us exceptional advice and kind 'introductions' to great Wineries. The 'personnal' introduction was very much appreciated by ourselves and one specific winery - that's what joined up visitor care is about!

I want to thank Margaret and her staff for the lovely family birthday celebration/vacation we had. I believe we occupied 5 differnet cabins. All wonderfully, uniquely appointed. We enjoyed the setting, the cottage, the friendly breakfast. It is our second time staying here and will be back again.

The cottage we had at Fern Grove was all that we needed. However the bedrooms were VERY small and there was no place for suitcases, so we had to place ours in the den area. For 3 folks, this was a bit tight. The kitchenette had all the basics, and a good sized kitchen table. We were not able to get the heat stove to come on in the evenings, but the bedrooms had individual heaters so we just used those. The setting and location of the cottages is ideal. Restaurants are within walking distance. The breakfast includes wonderful homemade granola and scones, which are quite yummy. I would stay there again, but would choose a larger cottage if I had 3 people.

What a beautiful outdoor space to enjoy, lots of glorious flowers and redwood trees. A wonderful breakfast available each morning. A great respite - thank you!

I received a complimentary upgrade from a studio to a one-bedroom cottage and was very pleased with the amenities. The furnishings and decors were so charming and made me feel like I never wanted to leave. The place is pet friendly so you can totally bring a dog if you make the proper arrangements. Lastly, the staff was wonderful, very accommodating! I have already recommended this location to friends looking for a nice and affordable place to visit in the Sonoma County area.

We very much enjoyed our stay. Wish we could have stayed more days and wish the breakfast was a little earlier as we had to get on the road. Nice place, we will return.

Great place to stay - just a short walk to town. Wouldn't stay in the same room, no shower - just had a tub with hand held. Breakfast was great! We will stay again!

We were very happy with our stay at Fern Grove. The place is truly unique and the innkeepers very helpful and friendly.

The surrounding gardens at Fern Grove made it well worth the stop. The room was comfortable, accomodating and decorated appropiately. A private cabin in the woods feeling. Loved it all!

The cottage was very well-presented and much bigger than I expected. The grounds were strikingly well-tended - the immaculate layout of the plant and flower beds really makes the place feel tranquil and secluded. Staff were friendly and helpful in giving us information about the local area. Breakfast was rudimentary, but we planned to eat in town anyway.

We spent several days at the Fern Grove Cottages and found them to exceed our expectations in every way. The property is immaculately maintained, the rooms well decorated, spacious and comfortable, and breakfast provided was delicious. This little gem is a bargain in an area that otherwise can be quite pricey.

We stayed for 5 nights at Fern Grove and had an excellent time. Our cottage was perfect, along with the service, and of course, the breakfasts. We love that Fern Grove is dog-friendly, too!

The property, both inside and out, were immaculate/flawlessly maintained. The numerous flower gardens added a warm and cozy environment. The owners were very friendly and helpful in recommending sites/wineries to visit. A very quaint touch is that the owners provide trays to take your continental breakfast back to your cottage (a great service for those with children), which can be necessary because of the limited seating inside the dinning area.

This was out 2nd time staying here and we've enjoyed it very much both times and will return again. The grounds are emaculately groomed with flowers and ferns everywhere - just beautiful. We stayed in a room this time with a spa tub - at first we were disappointed we also did not have a shower however we soon discovered the relaxed and slow pace of the tub so we defiantely looked forward to our morning spa/baths. The breakfast is good but by the third morning I almost wished we went out it's the same every morning. The bed was comfy and the room good sized. The main drawback is we were attached to the room next door and if they used the toilet at night you could here it and the running water in the sink. Another huge plus is you can walk easily into town for shopping/ lunch/dinner and the staff was fantastic. Another plus is we used the BBQ area this time for the birthday party along with the pool. The pool is good sized and they provide plenty of towels for use.

This is a beautiful and well maintained property. There are gorgeous flowers everywhere. I think I would have enjoyed it more if we had stayed longer. I really like to swim on my vacations and the pool closed early in the evening- and was not open in the AM ( between 7 and 8:30) Since the front desk is closed between 7pm and 8:30 AM I would assume the pool is not open then either even though it says "open during daylight hours". No laps for me. The room was spotless and had wireless internet. No real reason to upgrade to a porch( extra $40 a night)- I had visions of a porch facing nature, not the parking lot even though it is a flowering parking lot. We did not use the refrigerator . It would have been nice to have tea in the room as well as coffee and towels that were a bit nicer. The breakfast was outstanding with homemade scones and fresh fruit salad. The people at the desk were accommodating and friendly.

Worked out great. Three groups of us in three separate cottages. Walking distance to downtown Guerneville and to the swim segment of the the Vineman Ironman when driving there would have been a real hassle. Would stay there again without hesitation.

We stayed in the room with the fireplace and queen size bed. Lovely grounds and room. Lots of nice little details in the room like games and books. The lady at the desk when we checked in was sweet and very informative. The breakfast was yummy. The only issue we had was parking. We have a larger truck so maneuvering through the grounds was a bit tricky. Also when we returned in the evening the few parking spaces in front of our cottage where all taken. Overall I would defiantly stay here again.

When I found the website and made the reservations for Fern Grove I knew the inn would be special but I had no idea how special! The cottage was great, the beautiful gardens were out of this world! The breakfast was delicious! It was only a short walk to town, shopping and the river! To top it off, the Inn Keepers were so welcoming, friendly and helpful !! Thank you for making our time so wonderful in Guernville !!

My partner and I have stayed here for two summers in a row now, and we plan on going back next year too. We stayed in the spa studio sweet. The room definitely had character and charm. We had our own private deck with table and chairs. We ate our breakfast out there and even enjoyed some star watching. The breakfast is wonderful, not quite a buffet but better than any "Free" or "continental" breakfast you'd get at other places. The owner, Margaret, gave us great tips for wine tasting. Great value!

We arrived early and were upgraded to a very cute and cozy cottage with a fireplace and separate living room. The grounds are filled with flowers and surrounded by redwoods. I enjoyed our [ersonal patio with table and chairs. The breakfast was varied and very good. We'll stay here again because of the service, breakfast, and great little cottages!

Fern Grove cottages are located within a short walk from the river, beach, restaurants and walking paths. We really enjoyed the breakfasts - and that you could take it to your cabin for a truly relaxing start to the day. Would definitely stay there again and recommend it. The girls from Chicago

Stayed for a week in early July. Had a cabin that slept 4, surrounded by the redwoods. It was on the small side, but adequate, cozy, like you would expect a summer cabin to be. Nice decks with beautiful redwoods surrounding them. Gorgeous gardens with exquisite roses and other perennials. Butterflies everywhere! Breakfasts were great, homemade items every day. Innkeepers very friendly and helpful. A lovely heated pool but was a little too cold for me to try during our stay.

Booked at last minute to getaway on the 4th of July. Beautiful surroundings, peaceful/tranquil in a lush garden setting. All the staff that I encountered were friendly, helpful and genuine. Deluxe continental was delicious with mouth-watering scones, cinnamon rolls,pastries; fresh cut fruit with yogurt and granola; bagels/english muffins with assorted spreads; fresh brewed coffee. Trays made it possible to enjoy breakfast at my cabin deck or in bbq picnic area. Only minor inconveniences were spotty wi-fi access(which I was told was being assessed and corrected) and short supply of hot water for shower.

What a great location in Russian River - we were there for July 4th celebrations. As always, the staff at Fern Grove Cottages were friendly, knowledgable and helpful with information about the area and places of interest....

Lovely gardens and hosts,best breakfast by far! The bed was a little lumpy but we only stayed 2 nights. I Would definetely return.

The grounds were beautiful and well kept and offered a beautiful environment for the surrounding woods. Breakfast was fresh, tasty and bountiful.

The bed was firm to the point of being hard. However, the setting was delightful. Truly a place where you can sit around in the garden all day reading and noone looks at you funny.

My partner and I stayed here one night. It's a nice, friendly property and is located in a great place to roam around Guerneville.

We were in a 1 bedroom with a whirlpool. It was a cute place but it looked a smelled a little too much like my grandmothers house. However, we knew this before we booked our reservation from looking at pictures. We were surprised that we did not have a shower in our bathroom. We made do with the whirlpool. Breakfast was fantastic. I only wish there were some hard boiled eggs or another non-dairy protein source. It seemed to attract an assortment of people. Retired folk, families (young and not-so young), young couples. If you stay here, you should really get a meal at Boon Restaurant. It is amazing.

Customer service was fantastic! Mike & Margrett were gracious hosts; did a nice job in helping us seek out the best vineyards in the Sonoma wine country to visit. The breakfast they served us was nothing shy of outstanding! Guerneville is a quaint little town with some wonderful restaurants as well. Highly recommend!

Beautiful grounds with all the flowers and plants in bloom. The people were very friendly and attentive. The room was nice. The breakfasts were great, especially the fresh baked scones. It was a little more than I like to pay, but was worth it.

We stayed in a 1-BR with a gas log stove and spa tub. The cottage was enormous--king-sized bed, comfy loveseat, comfy but slightly noisy rocking chair. The tub easily fit two adults, and we never ran out of hot water. Breakfast was absolutely delicious--the scones are every bit as good as everyone else says, and the granola was also terrific. Also terrific were the people--they offered wonderful advice, and every place (winery, restaurant) we went to that we mentioned Fern Grove Cottages, the response was always warm and friendly--everyone knows these folks in the Guerneville/Russian River area, and likes them.

We enjoyed our stay at Fern Grove Cottages, and it met my expectations. The facilities are aging, but well maintained, and the host and hostess were well informed about the area and helpful. I enjoyed talking with the other guests at breakfast, sharing our adventures and dining on an enhanced continental breakfast. I would consider returning here on future visits.

We went dat for the holiday and had a great time. Everything is so green, roses everywhere. This is truly a tranqual inn. The staff could not be more accomadating, all we had to do was ask and it was there. Overall a great time. Great for short getaway

Great place to launch into wine tasting country. The other bonus is the beauty of the tall red woods and the proximity to the beautiful Pacific coast.

The cottage far exceeded my expectations. It was clean, attractive, homey, cozy.. we were there for a rainy weekend, so we spent a lot of time inside. My only complaint, and it's pretty minor, is that the couch is very uncomfortable, and is the only place to sit if you want to watch tv or movies, especially for two people. I would either replace the couch or put a tv in the bedroom. Other than that, we loved it, and I'd go back in a heartbeat!

Lovely place, great gardens. For us, the bed was small. Wish the dog rules (can never be left alone in the room etc. ) had been given ahead of time though.

The rating system for bedandbreakfast.com seems odd to me -- certainly Fern Grove Cottages "met my expectations" (or better), a middle rating, but I did quite a bit of research before making my reservations there, so my expectations were extremely high. The whole "expectations" line of thinking for BandB ratings just doesn't work since everybody has different thoughts about what it is reasonable to expect. That said, and reflecting back on my stay at Fern Grove after a few weeks, I would have to rate my stay at somewhere between 4 1/2 -- 5 stars. I expected, and got, a pleasant, totally relaxing refuge from the world, among the tall trees. No monkey business, no noise, no creepy forced interaction among the other guests -- my cottage shared no common wall with any other. Wonderful! The staff was totally cool about my small dog. Oh, and the continental breakfast was perfect -- lots of good and different things to eat and drink. I thought long and hard about whether I had anything to complain about, and the only thing I could come up with was that the toilet seat must have been installed by a lady plumber, because it refused to stay up by itself while I (ahem) peed. Had to hold it up, which is damn difficult while your hands are otherwise occupied. Trust me, this is not a small problem! Oh, and the decor in my cottage might have been a little over-the-top 70s. But really, I loved this place, and would gladly return at the next opportunity!

My ol'lady and I stayed here on a recent coastal trek. Grounds are immaculate. Cottages are very nice. Great location. I would not think twice about staying there again. I would highly recommend Fern Grove.

My husband and I stayed in their smallest room option, a studio. It was incredibly clean, and the staff was wonderful. Breakfast was great (granola, fresh fruit, yogurt, and baked goods such as bagels, english muffins, danishes, scones etc). The grounds of Fern Grove are beautiful with fresh flowers and redwoods throughout and surrounding the rooms. I'm pregnant so we weren't in the area to do wine tasting, but we spoke to another couple who did - TONS of places in the area. Overall, great value!

Our room was upgraded for free and we were very happy with it. Location is beautiful and the owner is very friendly. We have told our friends about how nice is was there.

The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Location was great- in the redwoods and close to both the Sonoma coast and wine country. The 1br fireplace cottages are cute and cozy with everything you need. The breakfast spread was very nice. My highlights were the homemade granola and the coffee!

Overall...We had a great stay...we would highly recommend! Conviniently located near a grocery store ..local restaurants and fun places to visit...everything you need near by.

Great location for Russian River wine tasting and enough space to relax with a glass of wine by the fire. Nice breakfast service in the morning--even fresh baked scones. Reception gave great dinner restaurant recommendation in Guerneville. It's not luxurious, but it's quite adequate.

We have stayed here several times. The best part is the hosts knowledge of local wineries. She listens to what we want and then steers us to the right places.

We received very useful travel information since we hed to reroute our itinerary due to weather.

Had a wonderful time while there. Everyone, from the Innkeepers to the cleaning staff were charming, gracious, efficient, and helpful. We plan to return next year, and stay longer.

The Fern Grove Cottages innkeepers were helpful with our slightly complicated sleeping arrangements. They made great dining and winery suggestions for our stay as well. Location made walking to shops and restaurants very easy. The setting among big redwood trees is magical.

My husband and I booked a night in the Spa Studio purely for the 2 person hottub. When we got to room we found that the hot tub was bigger than expected, which was especially nice because my husband is 6'4" and I am 7 1/2 months pregnant. The room was very cozy and we enjoyed our romantic getaway. We will be back, hopefully for longer next time.

We found the Fern Grove Cottages charming and cozy. The room was clean, the tub fantastic, the service very friendly, and the location convenient. We look forward to staying here again.

Stayed for two nights with my wife. Enjoyed it. Staff is very friendly. Room had personal patio where we sat and had wine. Surroundings are very natural and peaceful. My review seems like an advertisement but can't help, place is nice :)

I really love the location and cleaniness of the room. It was a perfect room for a romantic getaway. The hot tub studio was large enough for two enjoy. I look forward to my next stay at the Fern Cottages.
