Bidwell House

#1 Main Street , Chester, CA 96020 USA (Show map)

Who could possibly resist the mellow summer afternoons or the crystal clear winter skies over Mt. Lassen? The area offers a diverse selection of recreational activities. Near the Inn are opportunities for hiking, golfing, boating, water-skiing and bike riding. You will also view multitudes of wildlife and engage in possibly the best fly-fishing in California. During the winter the Inn offers immediate access to cross-country skiing, with downhill skiing and snowmobiling nearby. December is a favorite time for Christmas tree cutting. In a "yet to be discovered" area, the Bidwell House is located on the southeastern slope of Mt. Lassen. Chester and its surrounding area are rich in the history of gold-mining, ranching and logging. The Inn provides a great resting spot between the great valley of California and points east. The Inn is perfect for hideaway seekers, honeymooners, business travelers, weddings, reunions and corporate retreats.

Friendly, homey feel in a small town. Went up for a wedding. Good size room and bathroom.

One Night at Bidwell House

4.8 on June 11, 2015

Originally I planned on getting a cabin at Lassen Volcanic Park for my weekend trip, but they were all booked by the time I started looking. I'm fond of staying at unique B&B's when I travel as my wallet allows. Bidwell House was a little on the pricey side, but the charm of the location, the themed room, the friendliness of the hosts and the appropriately appointed night watch kitty who greeted us coming in after dark made it feel more like coming home. We only took part in the breakfast meal which was a delightful french omelette with goat cheese, sausage and spinach (I preferred my sans spinach, and they had no problem accommodating). There was also toast and jam, watermelon with mint, juice, coffee and yogurt. Upon arrival, the hostess did ask about any dietary restrictions, which I consider a thoughtful gesture so they could prepare for it in the morning. They have a DVD library, cabinet full of games and books highlighting various things to do in the area.

Our stay at Bidwell

3.8 on May 23, 2015

We really enjoyed our stay at the Bidwell house. Innkeepers and staff were welcoming and friendly. Everything was inviting and we felt like we were staying in a friend's home. The floors need some attention, as they squeaked a LOT! (That could be embarrassing at times.) But overall we enjoyed our stay and will keep it in mind on our next visit to Chester!

It was nice to stay during the week and enjoy the quiet and a nice easy swing in the front yard. The breakfast was wonderful as was the service.
