Shooting Star Bed & Breakfast

We have stayed here once before and looked forward to going back. I really enjoy the fireplace in the room and the friendly owner who cooked us breakfast the following morning. We will be back.

Lovely and rustic, for us ideally situated in north lake area. Comfortable beds and rooms. Great common guest area with fridge etc. And best of all, a great host in Bill.

Very nice B&B, would stay and will stay there again.

Our stay was outstanding!!! Amy was a amazing cook and extremely friendly!!! The rooms were very clean and met our expectations!! The veiw of the lake was amazing from the great room!!! Would deffinetly stay here again!!!!

We hadn't been to Tahoe in quite some time, and this was the perfect way to get us hooked into coming back. Bill is a wonderful host, and Amy cooked us a great breakfast of luscious french toast, sausage, fruit and OJ. Sitting enjoying breakfast with the two of them was like being among friends. They were wonderful to talk to and they take great pains to make sure the place is spotless! We stayed in the Aspen Room. The king-sized bed and sitting areas were wonderful, and the walk-in shower made for a geat place to unwind. We would not hesitate to recommend the Shooting Star to others.

Shooting Star is a great B&B and the host Bill does a great job making you feel welcome. Bill cooks a great breakfast.

My wife and enjoyed a delightful, comfortable 2 night stay at the Shooting Star. The Carnelian room was very comfortable and well furnished, and was on the ground floor. Wine time in the yard and then in the upstairs reading room was great. Aimee was a gracious hostess and a good cook. Breakfasts were awesome. We also enjoyed being able to walk to Garwoods for dinner. Thank you Aimee for making our stay so enjoyable.

From the made-to-order breakfast by Amy to the Comphy sheets, Shooting Star B&B is a winner. The Carnelian room suited perfectly as it was on the ground floor, had lots of light and breeze access. No bath but a large, door-less, tiled shower was spacious. The great room on the second story has a kitchen with guest fridge, living room with lake view and dining table. We were so comfortable, enjoying being the only guests for 4 of our 5 days! There is a TV room on the ground floor but we never used it. Bill, the owner, is a friendly, gracious guy and when he isn't around, Amy is there to hostess. Only three rooms and neither Bill nor Amy stay there so the guests have the run of the house. And it does feel as if it is "your" home. Location couldn't be better; walk across the road to a beach or cafe or restaurant. Easy access to further North shore or West shore. Amy, having been raised in Tahoe is a fount of personalized information about where to go and where to eat. In all, a terrific stay.

Took the girlfriend on a "surprise vacation" to North Lake Tahoe. After 4 years in Florida she wanted to see mountains again. Everything about this visit was fantastic, from the welcome from Bill when I came in to the great breakfasts made each morning. The room was great, reccomendations for dining and places to see in the area were great. We missed Aimee ( hope I got that right) as soon as we left. One of those places I know we will return to.

Shooting Star had spacious quiet rooms and served a delicious gourmet breakfast each morning. We enjoyed our stay there. When making reservations, we thought that it was right on the lake when in fact, it is a block away - but an easy walk. You do have to cross a busy street to walk to the lake. Reservations were easy and the customer service was excellent.

Breakfast was fantastic each morning of our stay. Amy was very knowledgeable of the local culture and activities. The Shooting Star is located about a block off the lake and a park that allows public access. We had a great time and will definitely return again.

The hosts are really good and go out of their way to make your stay comfortable. I was supposed to checkout at 4.30 a.m. and could not be there for the breakfast. So the hostess baked muffins to eat later.Couldnt ask for anything better. The rooms are very nice. Watermans landing for canoe and paddle board rental is two min walk. Its off the main road which makes this a quiet place to live and well suited for family.

We stayed two nights for our 35th wedding anniversary. Loved our time there. Our host was quite cordial, the breakfasts were great, and I was more relaxed than I have been in some time.

Shooting Star B&B is like staying with family or friends, without the family drama. Bill, the owner, is very friendly and warm, and respectful of each guest's desire to connect or be alone. The house is very comfortable; we stayed in the Aspen Room upstairs which was very quiet and worth the extra money for the king size bed and large space. The breakfasts were delicious and wholesome. If you are looking for an experience where you stay in a place like you were visiting old friends, this is it! If you check the yelp rating and reviews for Shooting Star B&B you will see many happy guests have rated it very highly (including me!).

We had a wonderful weekend at the Shooting Star. The location is great. The rooms cozy and clean. The hosts were very welcoming and hospitable and breakfast was delicious! I have stayed at many B&Bs and this one ranks in the top 5. I will be back.

Shooting Star Bed & Breakfast in Carnelian Bay, Lake Tahoe excels at providing the perfect atmosphere for total relaxation. The exterior is clad in tahoe pine wood, nondescript, yet perfectly suited for its corner lot location; the house blends into the residential neighborhood belying the sumptuous interior that awaits inside. Each bedroom is furnished with carefully chosen furniture pieces to enhance that particular room's location in the house. The Bay Room on the ground floor is aptly named for its sage-grey color palette as well as the wonderful set of bay windows that let in the early-morning light. The bedding provides a cozy and supportive place to quietly drift off into sleep while watching the gas-fireplace at the foot of the bed. A private bath with jacuzzi tub is the perfect way to start the day after waking. Bill Matte, the owner and on-site host, cooks up made-to-order delicious breakfasts each morning. He delights in having meaningful conversations with his houseguests, leaving the impression that a friend will always be waiting at Shooting Star for your return.

A beautiful place to spend your time, a lot of thought and time went into the designing of the B & B. The sheets were so soft, lots of comfortable seating all around the B & B to spend a relaxing day reading, or just looking through the many windows at the beautiful view of the lake, watching dvds, listening to music or playing games. Breakfast was wonderful, made when you wanted it. The B & B was walking distance to a great restaurant on the lake. When we were there we got snow and it was beautiful to see, but I think our next trip will be in the summer.

We stayed at Shooting star in December for 5 nights. It was such a nice experience! the room is spacious, bathroom is also big and there were plenty of nice amenities and towels. We love the fire place in the bedroom and the soft pillows! and love love the fact that there is no tv in the bedroom!. Breakfasts by Aimee was always something to look forward to, Aimee was so kind and helpful we feel so at home! We love the fact that there are only 3 bedrooms in the bed & breakfast, so you have your own privacy and dont always have to bump into strangers when you dont feel like socialising :-) All in all I would recommend Shooting Star if you are looking for a quiet and relaxing retreat. Will definitely go back when we visit Lake Tahoe!

At Shooting Stars B&B we were welcomed with a sweet smile and a warm friendly host. The room was perfect! Amazingly comfortable bed and sheets, warm fireplace, incredibly relaxing whirlpool tub and a home that says, "Stay, relax, enjoy!!!" So we did!!! ;) The Breakfast was topnotch both in appearance and taste. Thank you Shooting Stars B&B for all you did for us! It goes beyond words can say.

Wow! What a wonderful end to a not-so-great ski day in Tahoe. When we got there Bill and Aimee were hanging up a decoration outside, but he came to our car to greet us and to make us feel welcome. It's so luxurious to have a gas fireplace and heated tiles in the room, and the whirlpool tub is, quite literally, like having a hot tub in the bathroom. The next morning Aimee made us crepes for breakfast (delicious!) and we had a wonderful breakfast chat with the other two guests and Aimee. It was definitely cozy to have such an intimate, home-cooked breakfast. The shared living spaces are well furnished. The sofa overlooking the lake was especially delightful. It's warmed by the sun in the morning and was an indulgent place to crochet from. Aimee was a super gracious host, recommending dining options and helping us with some technical difficulties as we were leaving. I wish we could have stayed longer!

We recently had a wonderful Tahoe weekend and stayed at the Shooting Star. What a great place. The room we had (Bay Room) was very nice and the whirlpool tub was great! The common rooms are nicely laid out with a view of the lake. Coffee, tea, cider available all day long and we had two wonderful breakfasts. Bill (the owner) was a good resource for information about the area and good places for dinner. All in all it was a relaxing and wonderful weekend. The Shooting Star was a comfort to come back to after a long bike ride or a hike. We would recommend the Shooting Star to those looking for a restful retreat from which to access all the great activities available around Lake Tahoe.

Shooting Star B&B is the perfect place to stay to explore the beautiful Lake Tahoe area. The welcome is warm, the rooms are comfortable, cosy and beautifully decorated, breakfast is home cooked and very tasty. You feel totally at home from the moment you step through the door. Highly recommended.

During only a two night stay, the owner made us feel entirely at home in a very comfortable room in a very spacious and well designed homelike structure. The major part of the top floor was devoted to an open kitchen where you could watch breakfast being prepared, and the dining and living room area with a direct view of the lake. Breakfast was terrific.

Could not have chosen a better place for our stay in Lake Tahoe. The breakfasts were phenomenal! Lots of close restaurants and only a few minutes from Jet Ski rentals. Shooting Star welcomed us and was such a great resource since it was our first time in Lake Tahoe. We will definetely stay here again.

Lake Tahoe was one of several stops we had planned on our visit to California and we took a great deal of time in researching places to stay, particularly looking at B&B’s for their individuality, warmth and hospitality. In Lake Tahoe we didn’t want to stay in the sprawling mass that is South Lake Tahoe and wanted something more intimate. We were initially very impressed by the website design and layout, its detailed information and pictures and the Internet reviews. When we arrived, we were more than happy, as everything was as described and the Bay room was a very good size and the quality of the furniture and fixtures and fitting were very good, more than I would expect for a B&B that caters for skiers during the winter. A nice touch was the night-light in the bathroom that avoided us having to wake each other by putting a light on. Both my wife and I felt the layout of the communal rooms gave themselves to being used rather than just being for show. My only complaint on that score, was that there weren’t any instructions for operating the TV and when there was no sound, I wasn't to know that the only way to retrieve it was to reboot the TV, so that was a little frustrating. However, both Bill and Amy were perfect hosts and the breakfasts very healthy and satisfying, so we would have no hesitation in recommending Shooting Star as a great B&B in a lovely location in the slightly quieter, less manic area of Lake Tahoe.

I selected Shooting Star B&B for our 40th Anniversary get-away weekend. My husband and I were very pleased with the Bay Room. We had a view of Lake Tahoe and were within walking distance to the lake. The breakfasts were very good! Bill used the freshest fruits and foods available. It was so nice to be such a peaceful, pleasant setting for our special weekend. We are looking forward to planning another stay.

We had a lovely time at shooting star. The room was clean, comfortable and relaxing. The bed was very comfortable. The location is great, right across from the beach and Gar Woods a fun place for a drink. The owner of shooting star is awesome and his breakfasts are yummy. I can't wait to go back for ski season.

This place is wonderful! It has a nice view of the lake, is in walking distance of paths & trails & restaurants. The accommodations are luxurious but casual and the breakfast is hearty & delicious. You feel more like Bill's guest than a client.

My wife and I took a motorcycle trip to lake tahoe last minute and selected this place the day before. It was great, very clean and quiet rooms. Breakfast was fantastic. The owner, Bill, is very pleasant and helpful. My wife and I had great conversation with Bill during breakfast. We will stay here again for sure. We lived, laughed and loved for 3 days at Shooting Star last week. I found them on-line and booked our little getaway for my husband's birthday. What a wonderful little hideaway. Within a block of the lake, we were able to hike in the morning and come back to a delicious breakfast and the warm hospitality of Bill and Aimee. We are already planning our next trip there in September. LOVED IT!

Bill is an amazing cook with a great place. It was a weekend get-a-way my wife and I REALLY needed. We felt right at home & meet new people with a warm atmosphere. Hope to visit again!

One of the best breakfasts at a B and B that we ever had. Most places overdo it with super sweet entrees - not so at Shooting Star. Breakfast was hearty and healthy - Amy is a fantastic cook! Bill is a great host, accommodating and relaxed, which provided a pleasant welcome after several long days on the road. The Carnelian Room was comfortable and the common area upstairs has a lovely view of the lake, perfect for reading and a cup of hot tea. We plan on returning in the future.

The place is clean, comfortable, and close to the beach. Bill, the host is friendly, and cooks a dynamite breakfast.

For our first trip to tahoe we stayed at the Shooting Star B&B. Bill was a wonderful host and was enjoyable to chat with. The location of the B&B is great, right between Squaw and NorthStar with a great view of the lake. Highly recommended!

We had an unbelievable time in Lake Tahoe. Staying at the Shooting Star Bed and Breakfast could not have been a more perfect place to stay. My wife and I found our stay revitalizing as we had hoped it would be. Bill was an exquisite host. And, the inn was very comfortable. Especially, the cozy library.

Very nice small B&B with 3 rooms. Breakfast was made to order with Bill making what ever you want. Nice nook in the sitting room with a view of Lake Tahoe. The best part is Bill. He cares about his place and the people who stay there. Very helpful and wants to please. Will definitely be going back.

Bill, the Inn owner is friendly, helpful and very accommodating. His breakfasts were great and ready whenever you wanted it. The Inn was perfectly located for summer or winter activities and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We wish we could've stayed longer, but only had time for an overnight trip. Bed was so comfortable I could've stayed in it all day! Breakfast was fresh and delicious. We will definitely be back if we ever have the chance.

So much attention to detail from the heated floors to the Aveda bath products, from the private fireplace to the jacuzzi tub, and an amazing host!

This was the most enjoyable of 10 nights of travel. Bill, is a gracious host and his Shooting Star is so very comfortable and friendly. This B&B is a perfect getaway. The owner Bill is so warm and friendly, so hospitable. We never felt pressured or under any constraints. I would recommend this B&B to anyone wanting the experience of a home away from home. Has all the amenities you need and then some. Not to mention the breakfast was superb! Already planning our next visit back.

I've been to a few B&Bs in my day, but this one takes the cake. Absolutely spotless, charming, and peaceful, with view of the lake and AMAZING breakfasts. I highly recommend Shooting Star and I can't wait to go back!

The numerical rating on this review might not be as high because we had expected a wonderful inn and fantastic experience. So when our expectations were met, we were delighted. Bill's knowledge of the local restaurants was particularly helpful. The breakfasts were delicious and our room was amazing. Great place to stay for a romatic couples visit to one of the most beautiful places in the world.

Bill Matte has made the Shooting Star Bed and Breakfast the place to stay in Lake Tahoe. Bill is a wonderful host dishing up fabulous breakfasts and enjoyable conversations. We were very comfortable in the Aspen room as well as the rest of the home. We enjoyed hikes (recommended by Bill and some of his travel books) and the views of Lake Tahoe are breathtaking. Bill's recommendations of dinner places (Spindleshanks was a favorite) were spot on. Driving around Lake Tahoe is easy and Shooting Star is a wonderful place to call home! Thanks Bill. Outstanding accommodations, courteous reception, friendly atmosphere. Only drawback: we couldn't stay longer!

Great location, views of Tahoe lake, small, quaint, not a lot of fluff- just the right amount of attention to be attentive, but not over bearing. Beds and linens comfortable, heated bathroom floors, comfortable and snuggly robes, a fireplace to warm up the room. Breakfast well done and delicious. Could not have wished for a better low-key place.

We arrived early and Bill allowed us to come up, drop off our stuff and get a drink. He told us where we would find good kayaking & walking. The next morning he treated us to a wonderful breakfast. His other guests were warm and friendly. We had a wonderful time!

The rooms and entire house are very nice, well maintained and Bill makes sure you have a good stay. Make sure to walk over the the beach across the street for a relaxing afternoon.
