Shooting Star Bed & Breakfast

At Shooting Stars B&B we were welcomed with a sweet smile and a warm friendly host. The room was perfect! Amazingly comfortable bed and sheets, warm fireplace, incredibly relaxing whirlpool tub and a home that says, "Stay, relax, enjoy!!!" So we did!!! ;) The Breakfast was topnotch both in appearance and taste. Thank you Shooting Stars B&B for all you did for us! It goes beyond words can say.

This place is awesome. Makes you feel at home. Great area, good restaurants in the area. Highly reccommended.

Wow! What a wonderful end to a not-so-great ski day in Tahoe. When we got there Bill and Aimee were hanging up a decoration outside, but he came to our car to greet us and to make us feel welcome. It's so luxurious to have a gas fireplace and heated tiles in the room, and the whirlpool tub is, quite literally, like having a hot tub in the bathroom. The next morning Aimee made us crepes for breakfast (delicious!) and we had a wonderful breakfast chat with the other two guests and Aimee. It was definitely cozy to have such an intimate, home-cooked breakfast. The shared living spaces are well furnished. The sofa overlooking the lake was especially delightful. It's warmed by the sun in the morning and was an indulgent place to crochet from. Aimee was a super gracious host, recommending dining options and helping us with some technical difficulties as we were leaving. I wish we could have stayed longer!

We recently had a wonderful Tahoe weekend and stayed at the Shooting Star. What a great place. The room we had (Bay Room) was very nice and the whirlpool tub was great! The common rooms are nicely laid out with a view of the lake. Coffee, tea, cider available all day long and we had two wonderful breakfasts. Bill (the owner) was a good resource for information about the area and good places for dinner. All in all it was a relaxing and wonderful weekend. The Shooting Star was a comfort to come back to after a long bike ride or a hike. We would recommend the Shooting Star to those looking for a restful retreat from which to access all the great activities available around Lake Tahoe.

Shooting Star B&B is the perfect place to stay to explore the beautiful Lake Tahoe area. The welcome is warm, the rooms are comfortable, cosy and beautifully decorated, breakfast is home cooked and very tasty. You feel totally at home from the moment you step through the door. Highly recommended.

During only a two night stay, the owner made us feel entirely at home in a very comfortable room in a very spacious and well designed homelike structure. The major part of the top floor was devoted to an open kitchen where you could watch breakfast being prepared, and the dining and living room area with a direct view of the lake. Breakfast was terrific.

Could not have chosen a better place for our stay in Lake Tahoe. The breakfasts were phenomenal! Lots of close restaurants and only a few minutes from Jet Ski rentals. Shooting Star welcomed us and was such a great resource since it was our first time in Lake Tahoe. We will definetely stay here again.

Lake Tahoe was one of several stops we had planned on our visit to California and we took a great deal of time in researching places to stay, particularly looking at B&B’s for their individuality, warmth and hospitality. In Lake Tahoe we didn’t want to stay in the sprawling mass that is South Lake Tahoe and wanted something more intimate. We were initially very impressed by the website design and layout, its detailed information and pictures and the Internet reviews. When we arrived, we were more than happy, as everything was as described and the Bay room was a very good size and the quality of the furniture and fixtures and fitting were very good, more than I would expect for a B&B that caters for skiers during the winter. A nice touch was the night-light in the bathroom that avoided us having to wake each other by putting a light on. Both my wife and I felt the layout of the communal rooms gave themselves to being used rather than just being for show. My only complaint on that score, was that there weren’t any instructions for operating the TV and when there was no sound, I wasn't to know that the only way to retrieve it was to reboot the TV, so that was a little frustrating. However, both Bill and Amy were perfect hosts and the breakfasts very healthy and satisfying, so we would have no hesitation in recommending Shooting Star as a great B&B in a lovely location in the slightly quieter, less manic area of Lake Tahoe.

I selected Shooting Star B&B for our 40th Anniversary get-away weekend. My husband and I were very pleased with the Bay Room. We had a view of Lake Tahoe and were within walking distance to the lake. The breakfasts were very good! Bill used the freshest fruits and foods available. It was so nice to be such a peaceful, pleasant setting for our special weekend. We are looking forward to planning another stay.

We had a lovely time at shooting star. The room was clean, comfortable and relaxing. The bed was very comfortable. The location is great, right across from the beach and Gar Woods a fun place for a drink. The owner of shooting star is awesome and his breakfasts are yummy. I can't wait to go back for ski season.

We really enjoyed our stay at Shooting Star. Amy and Bill were very friendly. The house is very welcoming with plenty of room to socialize as well as retreat. I especially liked the linens.

This place is wonderful! It has a nice view of the lake, is in walking distance of paths & trails & restaurants. The accommodations are luxurious but casual and the breakfast is hearty & delicious. You feel more like Bill's guest than a client.

My wife and I took a motorcycle trip to lake tahoe last minute and selected this place the day before. It was great, very clean and quiet rooms. Breakfast was fantastic. The owner, Bill, is very pleasant and helpful. My wife and I had great conversation with Bill during breakfast. We will stay here again for sure. We lived, laughed and loved for 3 days at Shooting Star last week. I found them on-line and booked our little getaway for my husband's birthday. What a wonderful little hideaway. Within a block of the lake, we were able to hike in the morning and come back to a delicious breakfast and the warm hospitality of Bill and Aimee. We are already planning our next trip there in September. LOVED IT!

Bill is an amazing cook with a great place. It was a weekend get-a-way my wife and I REALLY needed. We felt right at home & meet new people with a warm atmosphere. Hope to visit again!

One of the best breakfasts at a B and B that we ever had. Most places overdo it with super sweet entrees - not so at Shooting Star. Breakfast was hearty and healthy - Amy is a fantastic cook! Bill is a great host, accommodating and relaxed, which provided a pleasant welcome after several long days on the road. The Carnelian Room was comfortable and the common area upstairs has a lovely view of the lake, perfect for reading and a cup of hot tea. We plan on returning in the future.

The place is clean, comfortable, and close to the beach. Bill, the host is friendly, and cooks a dynamite breakfast.

Bill was a fantastic host. Our room was very comfortable. The breakfasts he cooked us were out of this world! Coffee for me was a major highlight and we consider ourselves coffee snobs. For our first trip to tahoe we stayed at the Shooting Star B&B. Bill was a wonderful host and was enjoyable to chat with. The location of the B&B is great, right between Squaw and NorthStar with a great view of the lake. Highly recommended!

We had an unbelievable time in Lake Tahoe. Staying at the Shooting Star Bed and Breakfast could not have been a more perfect place to stay. It's relaxing, clean, comfortable, and the breakfasts that Bill makes are absolutely delicious. I can't imagine there are any places around Lake Tahoe that do it better. Thanks for Everything Bill! My wife and I found our stay revitalizing as we had hoped it would be. Bill was an exquisite host. And, the inn was very comfortable. Especially, the cozy library.

Very nice small B&B with 3 rooms. Breakfast was made to order with Bill making what ever you want. Nice nook in the sitting room with a view of Lake Tahoe. The best part is Bill. He cares about his place and the people who stay there. Very helpful and wants to please. Will definitely be going back.

Bill, the Inn owner is friendly, helpful and very accommodating. His breakfasts were great and ready whenever you wanted it. The Inn was perfectly located for summer or winter activities and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We wish we could've stayed longer, but only had time for an overnight trip. Bed was so comfortable I could've stayed in it all day! Breakfast was fresh and delicious. We will definitely be back if we ever have the chance.

So much attention to detail from the heated floors to the Aveda bath products, from the private fireplace to the jacuzzi tub, and an amazing host!

This was the most enjoyable of 10 nights of travel. Bill, is a gracious host and his Shooting Star is so very comfortable and friendly. We especially enjoyed the next morning breakfast around the table, with other guests. Indeed, it was with great reluctance that we had to drain the last drop of coffee and continue our journey. This B&B is a perfect getaway. The owner Bill is so warm and friendly, so hospitable. We never felt pressured or under any constraints. I would recommend this B&B to anyone wanting the experience of a home away from home. Has all the amenities you need and then some. Not to mention the breakfast was superb! Already planning our next visit back.

I've been to a few B&Bs in my day, but this one takes the cake. Absolutely spotless, charming, and peaceful, with view of the lake and AMAZING breakfasts. I highly recommend Shooting Star and I can't wait to go back!

The numerical rating on this review might not be as high because we had expected a wonderful inn and fantastic experience. So when our expectations were met, we were delighted. Bill's knowledge of the local restaurants was particularly helpful. The breakfasts were delicious and our room was amazing. Great place to stay for a romatic couples visit to one of the most beautiful places in the world.

Bill Matte has made the Shooting Star Bed and Breakfast the place to stay in Lake Tahoe. Bill is a wonderful host dishing up fabulous breakfasts and enjoyable conversations. We were very comfortable in the Aspen room as well as the rest of the home. We enjoyed hikes (recommended by Bill and some of his travel books) and the views of Lake Tahoe are breathtaking. Bill's recommendations of dinner places (Spindleshanks was a favorite) were spot on. Driving around Lake Tahoe is easy and Shooting Star is a wonderful place to call home! Thanks Bill. You made Lake Tahoe for us!

Outstanding accommodations, courteous reception, friendly atmosphere. Only drawback: we couldn't stay longer!

Great location, views of Tahoe lake, small, quaint, not a lot of fluff- just the right amount of attention to be attentive, but not over bearing. Beds and linens comfortable, heated bathroom floors, comfortable and snuggly robes, a fireplace to warm up the room. Breakfast well done and delicious. Could not have wished for a better low-key place.

We arrived early and Bill allowed us to come up, drop off our stuff and get a drink. He told us where we would find good kayaking & walking. The next morning he treated us to a wonderful breakfast. His other guests were warm and friendly. We had a wonderful time!

We had a great stay at the Shooting Star. Bill is a great host. The breakfast was unbelievable, a true hearty breakfast. The rooms and entire house are very nice, well maintained and Bill makes sure you have a good stay. Make sure to walk over the the beach across the street for a relaxing afternoon.
