5 out of 5last minute getaway
June 08, 2012
After a weekend wedding of one of our sons, and several days of family activities my husband and I were ready for a little time alone. After dropping the last of our sons at the airport in Sacremento to head back to Minnesota we made a last minute call to head to Carmel for a little R&R for Mom and Dad. After our arrival to Carmel we quite honestly started paging through our AAA book. Made a few calls and arrived at Briarwood Inn. Our stay was perfect in every way. The suite was perfect, a Queen size bed, two very comfy recliners and a flat screen tv and a kitchen. Beautifully decorated and very clean. After checking in and a hot shower we headed to the lobby to find out if MiMi had any recomendations for dinner. She gave us several options , we decided on Dametra Cafe, great food and incredible atmosphere. Thanks MiMi for your incredible hospitality. We will be back.
1.8 out of 5The Loudest 2 nights of my life
May 25, 2010
We booked the Briarwood Inn for several nights based on the website. The "Cabin" is a building with adjoining paper thin walls to the "cabin" next door. It was so loud is was almost comical. We spoke to the people next door about trying to be quiet, but it turned out they were...it was just the traveling sound. Also the stairs behind us were like a thoroughfare...not to mention the laundry that they kept piling up all weekend behind our bathroom window that smelled horrifying. Combined with the sound of traffic on San Carlos which I did not know was such a busy street. We also had issues with the internet....eek.
2.8 out of 5Great Location, but Some Improvement Needed
October 22, 2009
I stayed here 3 nights in early October, one night we had a hurricane and I had no electricity for 28 hours, They brought one candle to my room, I had to ask for two more. I asked the next morning for some type of a credit ($20 would have been great) and I was told no, it was an act of God. I had no TV, and could not even eat dinner as the soup I bought could not be heated. I sat in the dark all night and could not even read. The storm was extremely scary as it was, but to leave me and other guests to fend for ourselves was not appropriate. I think they should have come around at least with coffee and tea. Other than that, the location is great and the room was fine, although it needed a thorough cleaning. For what I paid ($100 per night), in Carmel, I feel I got a good value, except for that Tuesday night.
4.0 out of 5Disappointed with Briarwood Inn
September 08, 2009
It has been a day after our three day stay at the Briarwood Inn in the lovely city of Carmel CA. The Inn was as we understood it "dog friendly" as so many inns are now in Carmel. We chose this inn for it's location and what we thought was its charm along with being dog friendly. We have a 73 pound greyhound we took with us. He is a very good, shy quiet dog. At the Briarwood their rule is no dogs to be kept unattended in your room. We understood that and never left our dog except for the last night. He was sleeping (big day at the beach) it was our anniversary and we left him for about an hour. 7-8 in the evening. The innkeeper Carol called me on my cell around 8 o'clock telling me my dog was causing a problem for the last hour. Yelling at me, very rude, screaming you know there is a rule you cannot leave your dog unattended etc. I told her I am sorry we are right now on our way back to the room. Yes I admit we were wrong for leaving him. However, she could of been calmer, nicer as the time of day was early evening and I doubt our dog woke anyone up. She could of called us as soon as she heard our dog cry. She said he was crying for over an hour. Which is hard to believe( he is a greyhound I think I've heard him bark one time)but ok I will accept that. We just paid in full when we checked in over $500.00. We are two professional people who are not used to being treated so disrespectful. Anyway, we will never stay at this inn again, we also will not recommend it to our many friends and clients. There are too many other dog friendly inns to try. In this economy I think customer service should be excellent if you want to keep your rooms full, as guests have many choices in Carmel.
Innkeeper Response
The Briarwood Inn takes pleasure in accommodating guests with pets. We understand that most pets do not like to be left at home while their owners are away. In turn, we ask that our guests not leave their pets alone in our rooms, as they are in an unfamiliar space, and even the “best dogs” might turn to urinating, chewing, shredding, or barking. The guest never informed us that they felt disrespected, and everything seemed fine with the innkeeper after the phone call. We certainly do not want our guests to feel disrespected in any way, and apologize for the mis-communication.

April 18, 2009
Writing this review a day after our stay. The Briarwood is a delightful inn centrally located and walking distance to all of Carmel. Carol, the innkeeper was very personable and made us fell welcome from the minute we met her. She made our stay memorable and answered all our questions regarding where to dine and what we just had to see. We noticed that the groundskeepers were constantly tending to the colorful gardens throughout the property. We had our own covered parking which was very convenient since we didn't even need our car, we walked everywhere. We will definetly stay at the Briarwood on future visits and look forward to our next vacation. Mark & Diane
4.6 out of 5The Best Vacation Ever!
April 08, 2009
Briarwood Inn was the secret ingredient in the best vacation I have ever experienced! At each opportunity, the staff offered personal service that truly enhanced my experience in Carmel. The room was absolutely fantastic! It was very clean, offered privacy, and the amenities were outstanding - the room rate even included a carport. I would highly recommend Briarwood to anyone traveling to the Monterey Bay area. Before I left, I made reservations to return ... it was just that fantastic. Rhonda - West Des Moines, Iowa
