The J Patrick House

This was our first experience staying at a B&B and EVERYTHING about it was WONDERFUL! Our welcoming hostess, Lori was the BEST she made us feel right at home. The main house is gorgeous! We stayed in the Dublin room and it was charming with it's pot belly stove. The grounds made you feel like you might be staying somewhere in Ireland. The breakfast was DELISH! The owner John is an AMAZING cook who also has a great sense of humor. You can tell he really loves what he does. When you eat one of his breakfast you will not need to eat again until dinner! We met some lovely people while staying here and every evening there were homemade chocolate cookies...AMAZING, and ice cold milk waiting for you in the sitting room. We are looking forward to our next stay for sure. We highly recommend this beautiful place!

We always enjoy everything about our stay. We loved being able to have a fire in our room so easily, but would have liked the option of using the heater also. We were not able to get it working. We also very much enjoy the time we other guests wine and snack. I would recommend having something a little nicer than cracker spreads to go with the wine. The inn keeper more than went out of her way to find fun things for us to do and service us!!

This B & B is a charm with lovely decorated rooms, delicious breakfasts, thick chocolate chip cookies and milk, and good quality wines with cracker and cheese mixtures daily. Breakfast always starts with their homemade granola and yogurt with fresh fruit, then includes an entree that is different each day. Their breakfast bread is so yummy and is served with butter, jam (made locally), and cream cheese. Cambria is located near the ocean, so we enjoyed a leisurely walk along the cliffs (saw a deer and lots of squirrels). We also strolled through the quaint shops on the main street and toured the winery areas. There is no TV or internet, but that is why we like it. It's a place to totally relax without the interruptions of daily life.

We had a wonderful time. The room was clean, had a fireplace and the bed was comfy. We were greeted with enthusiasm by Cathie who gave us lots of information There was wine an appetizers at 5:30 and later there were home-made cookies and milk." The next morning we were greeted by the owner, John when he brought coffee to our building and again when he served us an absolutely wonderful freshly made breakfast. I recommend this lovely Bed and Breakfast for persons who appreciate true value.

Hosts were very hospitable, and the daily breakfasts were exceptional. Have one suggestion though-- why not showcase one or more wines from the Paso Robles area when you serve at your evening reception. Seems like it would be a win/win situation.

I have stayed at the J. Patrick House four times and each time has been wonderful! The house is well maintained, clean and so warm and inviting, as is John and Ann, the owners. When you talk to them, it's like talking to family, they truly are warm, caring folks. And then there is John's one-of-a-kind breakfasts! Simply amazing and so tasty! Oh, and another thing...just before you retire to your cozy room, John serves his famous warm chocolate chip cookies and milk...to die for! You never heard "quiet" like when you say at this wonderful B&B. :O)

Nicely decorated bedroom with King-sized bed & private bathroom, wood-burning stove and no TV or internet service (a welcomed break from technology!) John, the proprietor, is very personable & willing to give tips on sites in the area, as well as sharing a few stories about past guests as well. He prepared a delicious breakfast for us & even gave us a couple extra scones & cookies for a snack later in our day. I highly recommend the J. Patrick House!

If there is a downfall it was directions to the location, other then that the J Patrick House was a very nice accomidation. Breakfasts were very good, with fruit and a main course. The service was very fast and yet very accomidating. The evening wine tasting was nice to get to know people, which is why we like B&B for short vacations. I was very pleased with the J Patrick house and would recomend and stay there again if in the area. ...jeff

My husband and I loved staying at the J. Patrick Inn! It was so very nice to make a fire in our lovely decorated room each night with burning logs, and have a good night sleep in a comfortable bed. The breakfasts were delicious and the staff was very welcoming and friendly. Since it was a weekend to relax, unwind, and unplug I liked (and eventually so did my husband) the fact that there was no internet connection. Because of this, when we got back to our room it was easier to leave work at home (we could have always gone to a coffee shop for internet if we really wanted - but for 2 days, we were happy). We also loved the wine and cheese hour and the yummy bedtime chocolate cookies and milk. Oh, and my husband really appreciated the strong water pressure in the shower! :)

I chose J Patrick House because of its close proximity to Hearst Castle. I found out many customers return often. I will do the same when I have opportunity. The room was clean. The room was comfy. The room was quiet. The room was romantic. The owner was very helpful at breakfast to help us plan our day along the Big Sur coast. This is a very good B & B.

A very quiet, friendly and restful get away. Tasty breakfasts, with amazing granola. The innkeepers and staff made us feel comfortable and most welcome. We love the old time radio station - KTEA-FM, 103.5. Great advice and assistance with activities and restaurants.

Had a great time. The room was very nice and having a wood burning fireplace in the room was great. John is very knowledgable about the area and gsve us tips on places to go and things to see.

The fresh baked scones in the morning were a highlight (as well as the cookies and milk provided in the evening)! Would definitely recommend to others traveling the Central Coast.

My husband and I have stayed at the J Patrick house many times and always have a great experience. The Claire room in the main house is our favorite. John is a wonderful host and always fun to talk to. The staff are always kind and helpful. The breakfasts are amazingly yummy! We always enjoy the wine and cheese hour and especially love the milk and cookies waiting for us outside our room each evening.

John and Cathy were delightful and made my boyfriend and I feel right at home- the breakfasts were beyond my expectations and hearty- the conversations at breakfast with John and during wine and cheese in the evening with Cathy were enthralling and heartwarming. We look forward to returning soon!

Our stay at J. Patrick's this January was our sixth! Obviously we love it. John and Lori are wonderful hosts, the place is charming and food delicious. We always look forward to the milk and chocolate-chip cookies waiting for us when we come back in the evening. If Cambria is on your itinerary, J. Patrick House is the place to stay! My wife and I stayed for a two night get-away with some dear friends. What a wonderful place! No TV and No Phone..........so nice to just connect with the one you love! Our room was very comfortable room with a wood burning fireplace. Nice bath. Bed was comfortable. Nice accommodations for 1 or 2. Breakfast in the morning along with wine and cheese in the evening are included in your stay. A short walk, yes walk, to east Cambria and restaurants. Drive if you like. Beach is the attraction here along with Hearst Castle and Big Sur. Do not forget the drive the back country roads to see deer, wild turkey and other wildlife. Paso Robles wineries are about 20-30 min. away. Note like Napa in that roads are very narrow and winding. Save the driving and take one of the many wine tours available.........no designated driver needed then. We will be back again and again!

We loved the comfortable bed and especially the fireplace on our January visit. Service was wonderful, breakfasts delicious, and chocolate chip cookies every night equally delicious. We also enjoyed wine and cheese in the late afternoon sitting by the fire and chatting with other guests. Very warm and welcoming atmosphere!

My only suggestion is that they provide wifi for their guests. We did not have cell service in that location. If there was an emergency with our children, it would have been difficult for my mom to get a hold of us. Other than that, it was awesome!

Lovely room with fireplace (a plus in December!), comfy bed and quiet room, bathroom sufficient and clean, although outdated. Good breakfast, nice wine/cheese hour. VERY helpful innkeeper. Great location.

My husband and I recently visited J Patrick House for our honeymoon. We were beyond pleased. Could've stayed longer. We especially loved the Clare Room and the fireplaces in the room as well as the living room. It was fun getting to know th other guests. We will definitely go back again.

Had a great time! My husband and I went and stayed over a holiday weekend, so we enjoyed the festival. There are about 10 wineries/vineyards within 25 minutes so it's a great location, about an hour from Washington, DC and is easy to get to. The house is quaint and charming, a little creaky as well. Pat and Patti were very nice, and Patti made a GREAT souffle for breakfast. The website is a little hard to use - no online reservations, but the phone works well just a little old school which I guess fits with the idea.

We spent two days in the "Clare" room at the J. Patrick House in Cambria and found it to be a welcoming, restful stay. The breakfasts were very tasty and filling and the cookies and milk before bedtime were really a treat. Our hosts were happy to help us find interesting things to do and recommended several restaurants to suit our tastes as well. Definitely worth the trip and we knew right away that we would be back.

Just what a bed and breakfast should be! Comfortable, cozy, homey, private, peaceful, and a wonderful gourmet breakfast to top it off. Innkeepers were very accommodating and friendly.

We enjoyed our one night at the J. Patrick House. The wood burning/gas fireplace was nice, and the breakfast was terrific. I get why they don't have tv, but given how much people rely on their phones, especially when traveling, at least having wireless internet available would be appreciated. Would stay again.

My husband and I stayed for one night at the lovely J. Patrick House in Cambria in late September. The hostess was warm and friendly, the extra touches (complimentary wine and cheese before dinner, milk and cookies at bedtime, early morning coffee) were much appreciated and the breakfast was delicious (fruit cup and stuffed banana french toast!). Our room was spacious and lovely as was the whole inn.

John is very personable and an excellent host. Loved the breakfast, loved the location and loved the property. We will come back.

Martha and I have been going down the coast to visit this place for years. It is tucked in behind the coastal range and is on top of the delightful town of Cambria. There is a decent steakhouse a short walk away. The owner is a great guy and all the staff are fine. All is pleasant, quiet, a place to sit in front of a fire and collect thoughts. We shall return next year.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Inn over Labor Day weekend and couldn't have had a better time. We stayed in the Kerry Room and absolutely adored it. The B&B isn't a five star hotel, but what it lacks in amenities it more than makes up for in charm and personality. Breakfasts were absolutely phenomenal, quiches, frittatas, and banana french toast. The nightly wine hour was a great time to unwind after the day and meet other guests and of course don't miss the late night cookies, which are just perfect. Truly a great value and great way to have a quiet, romantic time. Will definitely be staying here in the future.

My husband and I spent three nights at The J Patrick House. We had a great time in Cambria and enjoyed our stay at this lovely B&B. Cons: Rooms and bathrooms could use a little upgrading. The carpet felt a little dirty, but the room was otherwise clean. We loved the fireplace and used it every night. Be aware that the showers and toilets are low flow. The shower in our room did not work properly, as when we pushed in the plug to divert water from the spigot to the shower head, it did not fully divert water to the shower head and about half the water went down the drain via the spigot. Water pressure was not fantastic as you can imagine. My husband thought it would be nice if wireless were available; however, I do understand this is a B&B and technology is not welcome. He thought wireless would be convenient so we could look up restaurants, things to do, directions etc on our iPad or iPhone, which I agree with, though it does go against the philosophy of B&Bs. Now on to the pros: The breakfasts are phenomenal - very yummy! We loved the raisins and granola and bought some to take home. The hosts are very friendly and accommodating. The grounds around the B&B are very nice and the location is convenient and quiet. Plenty of parking as well! I'd definitely stay again, though it would be great if some renovations took place to update the rooms and restrooms.

The J. Patrick House is a lovely B&B in Cambria. We spent 3 days there over our Anniversary. The room was lovely and the bed very comfy. The owner John was so accommodating and friendly. The breakfast each morning was wonderful and John goes out of his way to make sure you have all that you need and that you get to meet the other couples there. I would definitely stay here again, but would choose a room in the back building. The room in the main house is great, as you have the whole house to yourself after 7PM, but it is quite noisy. There is some generator or something that comes on and off during the night and woke us each time. Also, when there is someone n the house, it's quite noisy in the room. The wine hour that is offered is OK, but it would be nice if there were some local wines served instead of 'big' bottles of basic white and red. When you return from an evening out there will be a tray of cold milk and cookies waiting for you. Nice touch! We will return. Thank you John for the wonderful breakfasts:-)

we had a very warm welcome and we really appreciated the breakfast prepared by the host himself. Definitely a place to stay.

The breakfast was great with innovative vegetable egg dishes, great fruit and granola with yogurt, and delicous cookies and milk in the evening. Rooms were clean and well kept and it is located in a quiet area. A bit of a hike to town without a good trail was the only negative.

We will very seldom stay in a Bed and Breakfast . However, this very rewarding experience will probably change our minds. Nice room, pleasant people private and a great breakfast. Very nice experience.

My wife and I spent our first anniversary there recently and thoroughly enjoyed it once again. It is by FAR the best B&B in Cambria!

Quiche was not very good, We were expecting the french toast. Big disappointment.

This was our second stay at JPH. We really like the location, the facility, and of course the food. This is a great place to relax, the staff are VERY helpful, both in finding places to go, as well places to eat. They will also make the reservations for you. Basically, a worry free stay. Food is always top notch, and portioned well enough, but you can ask for more if you are still hungry. Personally, they set the bar for best B&Bs.

We have stayed at JPH somewhere around ten times over the years and it never disappoints. The best recommendation is that we have finally convinced some of our friends and family to check it out and they love it too and can't wait to go back. If you really want to relax, it is the place to go!

We love the J. Patrick House. This was our second visit and we are sure to return. The staff is fantastic and they do all the little things right. Yor day starts with a gourmet breakfast. There's wine and cheese in the evening and milk and fresh baked cookies before bed. The rooms are quaint with nice furnishings, however they are starting to show a little wear. The bathrooms could also use some updating. These issues by no means take away from the charm of this inn. It is the only place we will ever stay in Cambria.

We first came to the J.Patrick House in 1985 the year after it opened. We had a very relaxed week of vacation. We had four days to unwind from a very hectic life in Pasadena. Our room the Kilkenny was supposed to be haunted and John assured us that is wasn't haunted. Since we got in late we went to Madeline for supper, it was quiet and we enjoyed local seafood. We slept with the the windows open to the sound of a fountain. The room was wonderful. Each morning of our stay John and his staff prepared yogurt with fruit and a home- made granola that is out of this world. I remember banana french toast, frittata, and other home-made offerings for breakfast. All were excellent. John waited on each table himself, connecting with the guests as if we were part of his family. If you go to JPH the Sea Chest is a must. No reservations and cash only. Our day trips included a hike to the Piedras Blancas Light Station and hours watching the sea lions. Paso Robles is just a few miles away and John shared some of his favorite wineries. I wish we could have stayed a month! We brought home three bags of their granola, a little linking object to four peaceful days at the J. Patrick House. PS. Where can you go four hours from Los Angeles and have a fire in your bedroom fireplace every night! Thank you John and Ann!

The staff's genuine attentiveness and delicious dining were the highlights of our stay, and we know we'll come back for years to come. Our room, complete with fireplace, was quite charming and the grounds were full of lovely flowers, fountains and greenery. It truly felt like a home-away-from-home retreat!

We had stayed at The J. Patrick House before, and returned this time with my brother and his wife. We had a wonderful time at JPH and the surrounding area.

We called ahead that we would be arriving after hours, and were told that the instructions would be left in an envelope on the office door. As I was reaching for the envelope, the door opened and the manager stepped out--she was still there, so she helped us find our room and showed us how to use the keys. We appreciated her helpful attitude. The keys are a bit tricky, and opening the outside door is not easy. Everything in the room was just as we had anticipated from the web-site, cozy and comfortable, like being a guest in someone's old house. Breakfast was right on time and served by the friendly inn-owner.

We enjoyed our stay at the J. Patrick House. It had the feel of being secluded, but within walking distance to town. Good food, convenient early morning coffee service.

My stay at the J Patrick House was very enjoyable. The staff, Laurie and Cathy were so warm and welcoming and there to respond to our every need. The breakfasts were outstanding and the wine and cheese hours were a fun way to meet the other guests and to start the evenings ahead. The grounds were very nice, private and quiet.

Comfortable rooms, wonderful (all vegetarian!) food. Cambria is a beautiful, quaint town, and this B&B makes a great addition to a relaxing weekend getaways.

Wonderful B&B. Nice place to stay in Cambria. It's not on the beach but in a residential neighborhood that very pretty. Wonderful breakfast and cookies!

J Patrick House is a quaint log cabin in the woods, with a "carriage house" behind which can house 6 parties. Parking is adequate, rooms are very clean and offer a wood-burning fireplace for chilly nights. Bathrooms are spotless. We tested out the heater and had to open the windows to cool off. They serve wine at cocktail time, cookies and milk in the evening, and a full breakfast in the morning. Host John is a great raconteur and you come away feeling like you've stayed at the home of a good friend.

Another great stay. Breakfast was great as usual. Met a fun couple and had an even better time.

The fireplace in the bedroom was such a lovely addition to our visit. The breakfasts were fabulous and the homemade cookies, gourmet. The village of Cambria and Moonstone Brach full of sites to explore.... The general ambiance of the area is something I will always remember.

I would highly recommend staying at the J. Patrick House. Extremely friendly atmosphere and the food can't be beaten. I was impressed by the number of repeat customers staying there - it says alot!

My wife and I stayed here while visiting Hearst Castle. The J Patrick house is conveniently located. John hosted us during our stay. He was an excellent source of information on things to do and places to eat. Each mornings breakfast was exceptional. We would highly recommend staying here to anyone visiting the area. Some of the other guests we met were repeat customers...a good indication of guest satisfaction.

We stayed at the J. Patrick House for the first time late in April. As we were arriving late, we asked John if he could arrange for a late arrival -- we got some email instructions for how to get to the Inn and once we arrived it was incredibly easy to find our room. In the morning we were greeted by our friendly host, an incredible breakfast of fresh fruit (with some delicious home made granola) then baked french toast... the atmosphere during breakfast the atmosphere was vibrant and we ended up having some great conversations with John as well as the other guests. After an amazing day at Moro Bay we stopped back to recharge and explore the hors d'oeuvre and some wine before an evening at Hearst Castle. After our visit to the Castle we went to dinner at an amazing restaurant that was recommended by Jonh who also helped us make a reservation. Our only regret was that we only were able to stay for two nights, our last breakfast was an amazing souffle with some cherry croissants, and during that breakfast John recommended some wineries that we could visit on our drive home... again the atmosphere of the B&B shined as we had a lively conversation with the other guests and John about what were the best wineries to visit. We will definitely return, and hopefully soon!!!

We have visited Cambria many times but this was our first stay here. We will always stay here from now on! Thanks for the tips about local sights and our new favorite restaurant in town.

Beautiful, quiet setting with lovely gardens. Innkeeper and helpers very accommodating and knowledgeable about the local area activities and attractions. Delicious breakfast!

We love Cambria, Hearst Castle, and The J Patrick House. It is such a comfortable place to stay - with nice emenities of wine in the evenings, homemade cookies at bedtime, and delicious breakfasts! The innkeeper is always very helpful at suggesting things and making reservations. We love staying here.

My wife and I recently had a three night stay celebrating our 25th anniversary. It was a very enjoyable Bed & Breakfast experience!

My husband and I booked a room at J Patrick on a last-minute whim a few weekends ago. We love Cambria, and just needed to get away for a few days. Our stay at J Patrick was superb, and it was just what I hoped we would experience at a bed and breakfast. The service was friendly, the property very peaceful and beautiful, and our room was super cozy. The evening wine hour was awesome, and we were able to meet and chat with the other guests staying for the weekend. It's a brilliant idea because you already know who everyone is during breakfast the next day, so it's easy to talk to everyone. Breakfast was perfect, and though I was pretty much full after the fruit, yogurt, and granola, I just had to eat the entire hot entree as well, because it was SO DELICIOUS. John was an amazing host, and was great to talk to during breakfast. I'm really glad we were able to meet him. He was able to tell us a lot about Cambria, and suggest things to do that we wouldn't have been able to find on our own. Overall, the stay was superb, and we will be back in the near future! PS: Cookies and milk at night!? YUMMMmmm!

My wife and I stayed one night at the J Patrick House. This was our second stay here. The room was warmly appointed, had a wood ceiling and a fireplace, which we used! The queen bed was in need of a mattress update, though. It was a bit uncomfortable. The bathroom and shower were clean, although the toilet was loose. All in all, the room met expectations. The J Patrick House makes wonderful cookies, left out in our foyer, with some ice cold milk. They also have a wine and cheese hour which we did not participate in because we were out. The next morning we made our way down to breakfast; and what a breakfast! Home made yogurt over fruit with the owner's home made granola. Very tasty. Then came his Banana French Toast with maple syrup. It's more like a bread pudding with bananas on top. Wonderfully rich. The owner was very personable and spoke with all of us there eating breakfast. I would definitely stay at J Patrick House again!

We have stayed at the J. Patrick house ever since we started dating almost 8 years ago. We try to make it an annual visit and we are never disappointed! The ambiance, the kindness, the rooms, the morning breakfast, the cookies, the nightly wine and cheese, all of it is worth going back over and over again. We would recommend the J. Patrick House to anyone!

Fell in love with the J.Patrick House. The staff is great and very helpful. Breakfast is amazing; you won't need lunch afterwards. Rooms are clean and comfortable.

Nice room, cozy and cute, but could use a little updating and insulation for noise next door.. Wallpaper was peeling off the bathroom wall and toilet was loose. Great host and good breakfast.

We have stayed at the J Patrick House twice and loved it both times. Such a quaint lovely area of Cambria, our hosts we're very accommodating and the atmosphere is so relaxing. To have a wood-burning fireplace is romantic and the decor really does remind us of the B&B's of the British Isles. We'll be back again.

B & B is ideally located near the coast (Big Sur) and Hearst Castle and close to the Freeway. Rooms were very tastefully decorated and fully equipped with a romantic fireplace! We were warmly welcomed and given a glass of wine with delicious snacks. The breakfast was excellent both times with a good host. Nearby are good restaurants. John, the Innkeeper, was a warm and engaging man who gave personal attention to each one who was at breakfast. The breakfast portions were magnificent; as was the cuisine. We had a wonderful time exploring the surrounding area and chose to hike the Salmon Creek trail, which was just a few mile from Ragged Point. I would recommend the J Patrick House to anyone who would like to get away for a glorious weekend.

Every time we stay here we love the property and the people, they are fantastic.

We recently stayed at the J.Patrick house for New Years and found this B & B to be a wonderful getaway. The rooms were spacious and tastefully decorated and we loved having the fireplace at night. This is the kind of place you can go for a romantic weekend or just a weekend away on your own. The location is ideal. You're walking distance from town or the beach so you can easily park your car and not worry about driving for the rest of your stay. We would highly recommend this B&B.

The bathrooms were a huge disappointment- REALLY dated and cheaply done. I asked for a room that could fit two people...no way. Simple, cheap, 80's fiberglass tub with a glass door. Not up to par with the rest of the room. We LOVED the fireplace in the room- very romantic. The Inn keeper is super nice and very friendly. Wonderful staff. Even with the bathroom issue, we would stay here again.

Nice quaint B&B. No electronic communications (no TV, no Internet, no phone...). Breakfast was very good. Owner was very nice to talk to. A couple of small negatives: 1) toilet wasn't fixed after notifying receptionist and 2) receptionist could have been friendlier.

A warm cozy room with a fireplace and private bath made our stay very relaxing. The two breakfasts were excellent and served with personal care of the owner.

Upon our stay, we were greeted by a friendly helper, who told us the innkeepers would not be back for two days, and that we would see them at breakfast on our last stay. I realize everyone needs a vacation, but we were disappointed to not be greeted by the innkeepers, as were were in all bed and breakfasts we have stayed at. It makes it a little more personable for the guests. The morning John did greet us warmly and served an awesome breakfast. He shared several stories about himself, which were interesting and funny, but we were not sure if he knew much about his guests. We stayed in the room above the inn, and loved it. Every night we had milk and cookies, a nice touch! We had the whole inn to ourselves, as they locked the inn after about 8pm. The king sized bed was very comfortable and had nice bedding. The room was very cozy! The bathroom and some of the pictures were outdated and could have used some updating, but everything was very clean! The town of Cambria was very quaint, with a lot of cute shops and great dining. We loved the area! We would come again!

We spent two nights, and really enjoyed our stay. The room (Clare) was well-appointed, clean and comfortable. I particularly enjoyed the bed, as I have a SelectComfort bed and sleeping on spring beds is usually problematic. Breakfast was good - as far as we could tell. Both my wife and I have special dietary needs, and John took pains to accommodate us - but that meant we did not have what the others were having. That being said, it was a decent breakfast and we appreciated the assist. John also was very good at providing directions and 'local hints' for the local attractions - meaning he pointed us away from the tourist traps and towards where the locals would go. We look forward to returning! :)

I came up to Cambria for a long weekend by myself, and am so glad I stayed at the J. Patrick House. The accommodations were cute and cozy, but the service was phenomenal. The innkeeper, John, went all out to make me feel at home and comfortable even though I was traveling alone. I will definitely go back.

Just what we were looking for. Comfotable room, gracious hosts and cookies and milk to boot. Irish theme matched perfectly for our trip since we were visiting Cambria for an Irsh concert. We stayed in the Galway Room- cute, cozy and warm. Breakfast was more than enough and very tasteful. Wine and cheese were excellent as was the conversation. Staff was very helpful. Could not receommend a better place to stay.

Our stay at the J Patrick House was better then it was when we stayed in 2004. We could not have asked for anything to be better. John is an outstanding host, and Lori is an outstanding inkeeper. We had a nice time at the inn, where we stayed 3 nights. There were a few maintenance (plumbing) issues in our room, but they were resolved promptly. We've stayed in many B&B's in the past (mostly in New England), so if we were to compare this inn with those of New England, I'd say it's "okay."

Charming in a "grandma" kind of way. A little too much lace and flowered wallpaper for me and the stuffed animals on the beds must go! Really nice owner and nice people work there. The breakfast was very good.

This is our 3rd visit to the J Patrick House and it exceeded all of our expectations again. My wife and I really like the breakfast in the morning and the wine and crackers/dips in the evening. We meet with the other guests and tell what we have done and what they did and get more ideas for dinner and what to do the next day. We expect to come back at least once a year and more if we can get the time.

We had driven by the J Patrick House on a previous trip to Cambria and commented then that we should try it sometime. Since we were heading to Cambria for a concert on our 35th anniversary we decided that would be an excellent time to try the B&B. It was fabulous! From the moment you arrive you are made to feel special and welcome! John is a perfect host that truly enjoys his position. The wine and cheese evening reception is a lovely way to get to know the other guests, John, and the area. Then the lovely tray of fresh chocolate cookies and cold milk that greats you on your return from wherever you have been in the evening is just perfect! The grounds are quiet and the beds and rooms are very comfortable! A lovely wood-burning fireplace and the fountain in the garden just lull you to sleep! The breakfast in the morning is amazing! Fresh, lovely, and so filling!!! One of the best things...a windshield washing station! How perfect! Right in front of the parking lot, nestled in with the jasmine! As so many journal entries in the room revealed... annual visits happen a lot! And we will be one of those! Thank you, John!

We stayed at the J Patrick House for three nights. We had a great time. Fantastic location. The fireplace in the room was really romantic and the chocolate chip cookies rock!

The staff was very friendly and helpful as far as finding the sights to see. The room was comfortable, though a brighter reading light would have helped. The breakfasts were great and creative.

We enjoyed our stay very much. Very private little place, away from the beaten path in Cambria, but still close to the wonderful Main street and restaurants. Great food! We loved having the fireplace in our room. And oh - the chocolate chip walnut cookies that they put out in the parlor in the evening -- nice touch!!

First rate accommodations and very comfortable. Breakfast was ample and delicious. Do not resist the evening cookies!

We loved staying here for our 1yr. John was a great host and Innkeeper. From beginning to end he was helpful and welcoming! There were tons of young couples our age staying there, so we had a blast at wine and cheese hour chatting about Cambria, wine tasting etc. I grew up in Cambria, so going back is like a mini vacation for me. We loved the home-made cookies and milk that were waiting for us after we got back from dinner(I recommend Robin's, esp. their salmon bisque, it's to die!) We plan on going back, hopefully for our second year anniversary!

This is a sweet little bed and breakfast that is close to all of the little shops in Cambria (but it still requires a car). The rooms were nice but slightly outdated, it didn't bother me. They were clean and the bed was comfortable. My only complaint about the room itself was that it was hot, even with the windows open. When I asked for a fan, they tracked one down for me and that made it MUCH better! I found the entire staff to be very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Breakfast was delicious but filled with eggs. Since I don't eat eggs, I missed out some but the hubby said it was all very good. The scones, breads, fruit and granola were fantastic!!! The evening milk and cookies were a nice touch but we missed them all but one night due to dinner, when we did get them, they were great! While I loved the hotel, I am not sure I will return to Cambria. We like to experience the food and service in the towns we visit and Cambria was a disappointment. We ate at three fine dining establishments; one had good food but poor service, one had good food and good service...just as soon as they noticed we were there (40 minutes AFTER we sat down), the final one had Ok food and terrible service. The best place we found was some hole in the wall Mexican place with good food, good service and great prices; definitely not fine dining!

The staff was extremely helpful and kind and the food was great. I just wish you had internet access.

We had an awesome stay at this B&B. We arrived for a late checkin and they were so accomodating to make sure we got in safely and were comfortable. We felt papmpered and like we had personalized service for our short time there. We will definitely be back for a romatic weekend where we have more time to relx and enjoy Cambria. PS - Breakfast was to die for - Banana stuffed french toast - so yummy!! And Lori was a doll.

John the owner is very personable and went beyond my expectations to make sure I had a special breakfast that met my dietary requests. My husband enjoyed his banana French toast on the first morning, and a Spanish egg casserole on the second morning. John was also was very helpful in suggesting wineries in Paso Robles, since visiting all 200 isn't posssible. The rooms have a nice country decor, are spacious, and have a working fireplace. In addition to breakfast, wine was served in the evenings, and cookies and milk are served at bedtime. I would stay here again.

We come to J Patrick House every year, usually in July. John, Ann, and the staff are always outstanding. It's small size, and location only add to the experience.

J. Patrick House is a wonderful retreat. The location is close to shops and fine resturants. Breakfast was varied and absolutely delicious. The atmosphere is casual and provides an opportunity for solutude or conversation with others whichever is your choice. This is our choice of places to stay in Cambria and we highly recommend it to others.

What I loved about this place was the nice little "extras." The fragrant flowers lining the walkway to the Carriage house where our room was. The yummy chocolate chip cookies set out at night, and coffee set out in the morning. A squeegee to wash our car's windows and trash can by the parking lot. The wine and cheese in the evening, and the delicious breakfasts. The friendliness of the hosts, which set the tone for the entire stay. Very happy with this place!

Our room was nice, and the location was easy to find. The breakfast was tasty and huge so we skipped lunch because we were still full!

My husband and I will never stay at any other B&B after staying here! It was just fabulous and the breakfasts, wine & cheese hour, and the chocolate chip cookies before bed are divine!

We loved our stay in Cambria, and the J Patrick House was a perfect place to stay. The afternoon happy hour and snacks provided an opportunity for us to meet and greet with the other guests. It was in close proximity to the Hearst Castle which we visited. We also loved the wood burning fireplaces in the rooms. It was cool enough in July to have a warm fire in the evening. Shopping in downtown Cambria was definitely an afternoon and/or morning activity. And there are plenty of restaurants in town. In the morning after our breakfast of french toast and homemade yogurt and granola, our host even suggested a walk at a park along the coast. Glad we stopped in Cambria.

My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the J.Patrick House. The rooms were lovely and the breakfast was scrumptious. The only drawback was that we could not get any reception for our cell phones. All said, we would stay there again.

My wife and I have stayed at the J. Patrick House twice. We LOVE it! The rooms, the cozy feel, the breakfast, the social hour each evening, and, of course...John. This bed and breakfast is run how a great B&B should be, with attention to every detail and incredible customer service.

This was at least our 6th stay with John and Ann at the J Patrick House. By far, our favorite place to stay in our favorite town, Cambria. We would not even think of staying anywhere else when we visit Cambria. The breakfasts are simply marvelous, the afternoon wine and cheese delightful and the cookies and milk at night...well, wow! John and Ann are extremely delightful to be around!! They are sociable and hospitable and look after all of your needs. The rooms are decorated to the nth degree; they are warm, cozy and the beds very, very comfortable. The rates are very competitive with other places to stay, and for the price, you will not find a place to stay that gives you more value than this does. This is what a B&B is all about. Cosy house, great location, away from the hustle & bustle, good food, great bed, all the amenities and, to top it off, a most amiable and wonderful host. It's the little touches that we appreciated the most.

A nice and peaceful place. Although there were 8 sets of guests it was not noisy. The fireplace in the room was very nice. I especially enjoyed sitting out on the willow rocker in the morning while listening to the fountain. The host was friendly and helpful in directing us to places of interest as well as matching our food interests up with the right restaurant. I will be directing my friends here.

Though we only live 30 miles south of Cambria, we love to visit the J. Patrick House whenever we want to pamper ourselves without the hassle of long-distance travel. Because there are no phones or televisions in the rooms, we can count on uninterrupted peace and quiet. The breakfasts are exquisite and filling (no need for lunch), and the hosts are always welcoming and helpful with restaurant suggestions, directions to area activities, etc. We truly do feel like we've gotten away from it all when we stay at the J. Patrick House.

J Patrick House is a precious gem! It is our favorite weekend getaway destination. We love it so much that we have made a promise to each other to visit at least once a year but hopefully twice if my workaholic husband will ever take that much time off work. Owner John is so friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming. He is a genius at introducing guests and keeping the conversation going over wine and cheese or breakfast. Oh, the breakfasts! Are amazing...no continental breakfast here. John whips up the most delicious Fratta's, Stuffed French Toast, Eggs Florentine. You won't be hungry until dinner! The rooms are delightful with a wonderful crackling fireplace in each room. Since this truly is a getaway, there are no T.V.'s in the rooms, but we bring a laptop and play a movie...if we have time. There is so much to do and explore in Cambria - hike up to the waterfall, moonstone beach and the sea lions, incredible restaurants, and fun shopping. We met the most wonderful people also staying at J Patrick House. One couple from Scotland and another from Alabama! We never laughed so much in our lives. And we may be visiting our new friends in Scotland soon!! Can't wait to go back to J Patrick House!!

We stayed for one night on a trip down the coast. Rooms/service/location etc all ok, not the best but certainly not the worst. The wonderful breakfast was the highlight of our stay and would be a reason to stay here again.

First time to Cambria, J. Patrick House came highly recommended so I decide it check it out. From the time we checked in to the time we check out, everything was perfect. Overall this B&B was nice. The rooms were clean and nicely decorated, the grounds were nice and the breakfasts were ok. The hosts were very gracious. However, the rooms were not very sound proof. Must be thin walls as noise from all rooms could be heard. We stayed in the Tipperary room and could hear a lot of movement from the upstairs room and noise from the adjacent rooms. The first night very loud snoring good be heard - killing the romance. If you are the type to make a little noise during romantic encounters, and maybe a little bashful about it, this is not the place for you as all will hear. Probably more of a place for much older couples. Since I was hoping to rekindle some lost romance, the thin walls sadly did not help in that endevour.

We loved Cambria and will defintely come back again. Our room at the J Patric House was a little small and worn. The owners and staff are all very nice and friendly. Breakfast was good and filling.

We returned for another wonderful and relaxing stay at the J Patrick House. Me and my husband always enjoy our stay here it is so relaxing and they really make you feel at home. The breakfast is always so good. We really enjoy the yogurt and granola in the morning. The afternoon wine and horderves in the evening and we always look forward to the chocolate chip cookies in the late evening, even after a full meal from town. We have stayed here a multiple of times that we have almost stayed in every room. We always enjoy our stay here. Looking forward to going back.

We really enjoyed our experience at J Patrick House. The host made our brief stay better than expected. John was extremely helpful with all of the guests, accomodating us with dinner suggestions and reservations, activities, directions, everything. We will be back!

The room was cozy, with a wood-burning fireplace. It was clean. The bathroom was ok. The wine and cheese hour is a nice touch, as are the 7pm cookies and milk.

We enjoyed a relaxing couple's weekend at JPH. Our room was spotless, and the grounds were lovely. The breakfasts were delicious and filling, and we wish we could have milk and cookies like those EVERY night! The town of Cambria was charming; a lot of shops to explore, and too many tasty things to try them all. At JPH, we were minutes away from everything, including the beach, yet removed enough to feel like were hidden away in the woods. John and Ann were fantastic - personable and hospitable, and we felt right at home, like visiting friends more than paying guests. We hope to visit again soon.

A second trip to Patrick House reinforced my memories of the first time I stayed there. It is the perfect place to stay when visiting Cambria and Hearst Castle. The breakfast was wonderful and I wish I had the recipe for the banana french toast. John is a gracious host who can help with your trip details. He got us tickets to the local theater PPewterPlayhouse and that was a real treat. We had seats called Jimmy Durante and Ethel Merman. Making plans for another trip.

We've stayed at J.Patrick several times.It is conveniently located in the tall pine trees mid-way between the village and Moonstone beach. There is great camaraderie at breakfast as every one prepares to head out for the day. Then in the evening it is really neat as most everyone staying at the inn are seated around the living room, with a cozy welcoming fire, sharing the events of the day over a glass of wine before heading out to dinner. John and Ann operate a warm and welcoming inn, as such, the people that stay there are repeat visitors, which adds to the experience. Its a great place; warm bed, glass of wine, good food and good people.

My wife and I went to the J. Patrick house to celebrate our wedding anniversary--we were a little leery going to a BB for our first time, but those insecurities were quickly relieved by the friendly staff of this establishment. All of our expectations were met and surpassed at the J. Patrick House. The service was excellent, the rooms were great, and the banana-french toast breakfast in the morning was delicious. We could not have been happier with our stay, except to have been able to stay longer! Thank you so much.

My husband and I spent our anniversary at the J Patrick House this year. Everything is exactly as advertised on their website. The rooms are pretty, clean and comfortable. We were greeted warmly, given a quick tour, told the rules, and left alone. Honestly there was absolutely nothing to complain about during our visit. The most outstanding thing about our stay was the fun evening conversations with the other guest, I just wish we could have had more than an hour before being scooted out of the main building. I'm really not certain why this place has received awards. It was lovely and nice, but in my opinion there was nothing outstanding about the B&B or the service. It is a lovely place, with nice people and for the most part met my expectations.

This was my first experience with a bed and breakfast. My girlfriend and I had the chance to get away for a weekend, and I happened upon J Patrick House while browsing the internet. I could not have had a more fortunate choice! From the get-go, John's hospitality made the both of us feel that we were staying with a close friend or relative. The coziness of the room, warmth and friendliness of the guests, and amazing culinary skills of John all just blew us away. After a visually stunning tour of Hearst castle, we retired to the house for a nice rest. John then hammed it up with us during his wine and social hour, all the while booking restaurant reservations for everybody. His cookies and breakfast alone are enough for the return trip, but the atmosphere and memories make it a necessity.

Friends and I spent the Martin Luther King weekend at The J Patrick House and cannot say enough about the hospitality and the inn's location. John was very gracious and very informative. Speaking for myself, I will return and will definitely recommend The J Patrick House to friends and family.

John did an excellent job attending to us. It was especially interesting to talk with him. He is a very good cook and baker. Breakfasts were very good. Suggest adding wifi connection. Don't think it would detract from the beauty of of the facilities or affect the landscaping.

My girlfriend and I spent three nights at The J Patrick House celebrating her birthday. This was my girlfriend's first experience in a B&B. She wasn't disappointed. There are two things she enjoys, 1) a comfortable bed, and 2) a great breakfast to start the day off right! This was the perfect place for her first B&B experience. This was our first time at the J Patrick House, but God willing it won't be our last.

We stayed at this very quaint bed & breakfast for the weekend. Our room was a little smaller than it appeared in the pictures, but it was still very cozy and charming. The afternoon wine & cheese hour was fun and interactive, and the milk & cookies at night were a nice touch! The breakfast was very good as well. You do not get a choice of breakfast food, but everything was home made and very fresh. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay, and definitely recommend the b & b to our friends and family.

J Patrick house offers the quaintness of staying at your rich uncle's house in the middle of no where but in Cambria. No tv or dvd player, no telephone and no internet service. Some of the interior needs updating but is cozy and clean. My mattress wasn't as comfortable as I expected from a boutique type B and B. The breakfast was decent. Our evening hors oeuvres included Salmon Creek wine with crackers, tuna spread or cheese. Big points for the chocolate chip cookies, not overly sweet and nutty. I probably wouldn't stay there again because of the mattress and lack of wifi access.

John made our visit delightful as he was there to see that our needs were always met. In the evening there was always chilled milk and fresh cookies awaiting for us in our room. The bed was very comfortable and the comforter / blankets just wraspped around us in soft fabric and with the large wood burning fireplace to lull us to sleep, what else can you ask for. The breakfast was outstanding and the hot coffee kept coming. The living room turned into a gathering place for all the guests and John led the group in stories of laughter. We came to the J Patrick House for our 2 year anniversary. We just wanted to get away, relax, and be with each other. Neither of us had ever been to a bed and breakfast before, so we didn't really know what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised to find a super cute, super cozy room. John's cooking was fantastic, we enjoyed the wine and cheese, and LOVED LOVED LOVED the cookies and milk before bedtime. I think it was also great that there was no television or internet, as it was so nice to not be distracted by those things. We were able to concentrate on each other and just enjoy the quiet. We also enjoyed playing one of the many boardgames available in the hallway. We would MOST definitely stay at the J Patrick House again, and highly reccommend it to other people.

Our stay was excellent, as usual. John was gracious and funny. We can't wait to pass this way again. Maybe for my 45!

My wife and I were visiting Cambria for the first time in mid December for our anniversary. We loved the atmosphere and the friendly staff and owner who added so much to our weekend from the wine and cheese happy hour social to the delicious breakfast. John suggested a few must visit wineries that are sure to please as well!

Best we've stayed in, best service, best food, best accomodations. The wife was happy and that's more important than anything else. We will be staying there again soon.

My husband and I stayed here during a drive up the California coast and had such a wonderful visit. The B&B was cozy and warm, and the Innkeepers were exceptional. We enjoyed drinks by the fire and a delicious breakfast the next morning. We will definitely return for another visit and would recommend this place to anyone!

This is our 2nd trip and once again John made us feel like pampered guests in his home. We stayed 2 nights and enjoyed meeting 2 completely different sets of people - from as far away as Australia and Switzerland. You can't go wrong with this lovely inn.

My wife & I have been visiting the Cambria area regularly for 25 years. We found this little gem a few years back & have returned once or twice each year ever since. We count John and Ann as dear friends, rather than just our innkeepers. JPH is truly our "home away from home". Try it once & you'll become regulars too. Even if the local charm, coastal scenery, & nearby wineries don't do it, John's banana-stuffed french toast will bring you back for sure.
