What a great place to stay. Rooms were as expected and quite roomy. The extra services provided were exceptional, wine and nibblies in the early afternoon and again at night were complimentary and an extra special touch. Thankyou for a delightful and memorable stay

Fabulous location and hotel

Villa Rossa is a good value. The hot tub and pool are nice. The rooms are somewhat outdated. The staff was really helpful. I would stay again.

We enjoyed our stay here. The location was great for beach and restaurant access, and the afternoon wine and cheese was a nice touch. We were a bit frustrated with the toilet in our room - it had a sensitive handle, and if you didn't get it just right you had to reach into the tank to get the stopper to seal and allow the tank to fill up (and stop running water noisily!). Breakfast was good enough that we didn't have to plan a mid-morning snack, like we do with the usual tasteless shelf-stable stuff you'd expect at a chain hotel. The staff was very friendly and went out of their way to make us feel at home. We spent more than we would normally spend to stay here, but it was a pleasant break. No regrets.

Very cozy and loved the design and decorations. The only thing I didn't like was the bathroom. It seemed to not fit with the rest of the room and felt like a "cell" the walls were bare and it just seemed out of place. I stayed in room #8

Went to the Villa Rosa Inn to get away from the city for a night and I was quite pleased with the inn and its staff. The room was fantastic--quiet, clean, with a charming balcony overlooking the pool. Staff was kind, helpful, pleasant. Great location. I find myself now making up reasons to get away again, just to stay here.

I wanted something cozy and quaint for my anniversary, and that is exactly what I got. :-)

Very nice room

Birthday/Valentines day trip from San Diego. Arrived and was pleasantly greeted by the concierge with a map and details around town. Outstanding amenities, and the continental breakfast and wine/cheese at night were delicious. Fireplace inside gives great atmosphere. All the feel of a Spanish Villa without having to go to Spain. Step outside and you can pretty much walk to the beach in 2 minutes. Really wished we stayed another night or two!

I just love the feel of this place. The breakfasts are so great and of course the wine and cheese in the late afternoon. I love the cozy living room with the fireplace. It feels like home to me. Cathryn

I only stayed one night at the villa rosa inn, I was happy with the employees there, since they were all very friendly when we arrived and checked out. My partner and I had just walked from the bus station to the hotel and were a bit tired and we were offered bottled water and other refreshments as we arrived. The hotel design itself was really nice, and very unique, which was nice rather than the same standard look of other hotels. My only complaint of my stay here was that the walls in the rooms seemed extremely thin, and all night long I could hear snoring coming from the adjacent room and footsteps of people down the hall. The price was pretty high for having these disruptions, but I suppose for a hotel in santa Barbara it's cheaper than most.

We stayed in the 2 bedroom suite located in the main building. The decor was old, but clean. The staff was friendly enough. It's located really close to the beach so that was a big plus. They have free wifi and breakfast in the morning which was nice. The walls are thin, so it was easy to hear people on the street and outside the door. Not sure I would stay here again.

The room was exactly as described and pictured in the website. There was a stand fan running in the room when we arrived keeping the room cool after the unexpected hot weather the few days before. The food was above expectations and the eating area was very intimate. Enjoyed meeting other guests from all over the world, yet we had the option of keeping to ourselves if we wanted to. Guests were very friendly. The website does not do justice to the layout or ambiance. The hot tub was great - very welcome after a long day of hiking. The central garden courtyard was much more enjoyable "view" than expected with a beautiful tiled table and chairs on the balcony. Just a few steps to the beach but not right on the ocean avenue, which made for a quiet night. We both slept better than we had in months. Bed was extremely comfortable. Hoping for a return visit as soon as travel plans allow.

Frühstück und Nachmittags-Snack mit Weinprobe war im Zimmerpreis inbegriffen. Frühstück war okay. Insbesondere die selbst zu backenden Waffeln sind sehr lecker. Geringe Anzahl an Parkplätzen im Hof; ansonsten Parkmöglichkeiten an der Straße. Achtung: Straße mit zeitlichen Parkverboten. Das Hotel weist gesondert darauf hin. Ich würde das Hotel jederzeit wieder buchen.

The Villa Rosa is a cozy and charming inn just steps from the ocean. The beautiful tile work and earthy color palate throughout lobby and hallways make it a cool, relaxing retreat from the Santa Barbara sun. The fireplace, fountain, and old hardwood beams across the ceiling also add a touch of romance to the atmosphere. We were traveling on a budget, so we chose one of the smaller, less expensive rooms. We had plenty of space to spread out and the room was very clean, quiet and comfortable. Staff members were polite and helpful. The one disappointment (and this is very minor) was the complimentary wine, which was Yellowtail. We were visiting from the East Coast, and while we weren't necessarily looking for anything expensive or high end, we really would have loved to see a bottle from a local vineyard, or something that's unique to the Santa Barbara area. Again, a very minor detail. The Villa Rosa is an excellent choice, and I would highly recommend it.

Lovely old Santa Barbara Inn, lots of character, but in need of upgrading its basic amenities. Shabby bedding and pillows, shabby bathroom. Overall, if you’re looking for location and that "old Santa Barbara style", a good value. But if you like a bit of luxury, try elsewhere!

Villa Rosa Inn is a very lovely B&B; unfortunately, I did not get to my room until late (though they let me get my key early in the day before check-in time). If I had known how beautiful the room was, I would have gotten back in time for the wine & cheese. I absolutely loved the room - it was spacious, beautifully decorated - I felt like I was at home. It had a darling balcony and the foliage around the building is gorgeous. The front desk was wonderful to me - definitely taking care of their guests. Lots of choices for breakfast and the location is ideal. LOVED IT!

My wife and I had the privilege to stay at Villa Rosa Inn and enjoyed it tremendously. It's well located steps from the beach and a stones-throw from downtown. The bed is enormous and comfortable, our room overlooked the pool with a little balcony with a table and two chairs to sit at. The place is not your sterile mega-hotel and is the better for it. The fittings are pretty dated but all work and it adds to the ambience, you feel like you have stepped onto a movie set. The staff are great and re-directed us to a great fish restaurant down the road (FisHouse) which got two thumbs up. We would not hesitate to stay there again

I loved this quaint little inn right next to the beach in SB. My room felt like I was at home and the room was so charming. The kitchen was huge and the bathroom was beautiful. I would definitely stay here again. The only complaint I have is one night the gentlemen working the front desk was a little rude and dismissive, other than that, everything was fine.

This was such a beautiful place to relax in peace and serenity. Our room, #6, had French doors opening out to a lovely, secluded garden. The garden could be used by hotel guests but it was always empty during our stay so it seemed very private and quiet. The Spanish/Southwest colors, atmosphere, and decor were exquisite. We will come back.

Good service, great location (one block from the beach) and only 5 minutes by car to great restaurants, clean and comfortable rooms. Overall great value. Definitely recommend this place.

The room was spacious and nicely appointed. The balcony was very nice, and the bed was comfortable. Since there is no air-conditioning, on a hot day, the room can be uncomfortable. The breakfast was not ready on time at 7am (coffee not even ready). And the breakfast lacked any protein, such as hard boiled eggs or cold cuts. The staff was not helpful in recommending a restaurant. So, overall, it was a pleasant stay, but as the title suggests, a few improvements would make it even better.

We stayed in room 13, and it was perfect, we sat on the balcony and enjoyed the view.

Villa Rosa Inn has a warm inviting atmosphere. Friendly staff and nice rooms. We were only there for a few hours but would definately go back.

The Villa Rosa is technically an inn, not a B&B as it has the usual motel breakfast of do-it- yourself granola and bran flakes in a paper bowl. It looks sweet from the outside but there are drawbacks upon further inspection. Essentially it needs a full-time maintenance person to keep it from falling apart. The ice machine failed so there was no ice for our drinks for three days. And speaking of ice, the pool is not heated so it's not welcoming, except to sit around and relax. The hot tub must have stopped heating also--it was the temperature that the pool should have been. Although they turned it on the last day of our stay. The towel rack in the bathroom was missing but the brackets were still there--just the things that a maintenance person should be fixing. Another thing: there is so much STUFF around the pool: too many potted plants, and things that don't need to be there--a little junky looking. If you're not a picky, neurotic person, this inn has its charms: close to the beach, fountains, pretty rooms, (ours, #9, has 5 windows and lots of light), some rooms overlooking the pool/courtyard, wine/cheese happy hour, succulent garden around the perimeter, close to State St.and it's fine restaurants, relatively quiet, and it's a good value. Despite the rough edges, we enjoyed our stay.

We visited this Inn over two decades ago so we expected many changes. We were pleasantly surprised that it has kept its charm! When we think of staying in Santa Barbara, The Villa Rosa Inn will be tops on the list.

Very nice place to stay at when visiting Santa Barbara. Has a lot of old days charme without lack of comfort and modern days fscilities (e.g. TV, Internet etc.).

I've stayed at several hotels in Santa Barbara, and the Villa Rosa beats them all. The building itself has so much charm and character. Our room was spacious, with a huge balcony and a massive, comfortable bed. The location is unbeatable. A block from the beach and a block from State street. Jessica, at the front desk, was fantastic. Cheerful, helpful, warm, and welcoming. The perfect hostess. They have a pool and a hot tub. They serve wine and nibbles, and port upon request. It's like a dream, a true escape. A place to delight in and relax in. I'll definitely return...

Cute and quaint, but really out of date and overpriced for what you get. The lobby, sitting area, and pool are all very nice, but the rooms are in dire need of refurbishing. Don't let the photo gallery fool you, the rooms look nothing like the photos. This place is also much more bed than breakfast, as the breakfast was very underwhelming.

Nice decoration, room without ac, hot during day time, facilities old and broken, service and people there are nice, very home feel envirnment.

Villa Rosa Inn is just that - an Inn that welcomes you "in" - our 10 yr old daughter swam in the courtyard pool the evening we checked prior to dinner at the Palace Grill, and felt at home when she got to feed the Koi fish the next morning after breakfast at the Inn. If we had had time, we would have taken the short walk to the beach and Pier - Villa Rosa Inn is that close. Try an upper room which may be more up to date. No doubt we will be back!

Our favorite location in SB for price, ambience and location, being close to the water and State St with its handy bus. Plenty to do without getting in your car.

All I have to say is if you want to get away with your spouse or loved one, this is the place to go to. You cant find a better place :)

Being a block from the Santa Barbara beach made staying at the Villa Rosa Inn a great experience. The breakfast and wine and cheese were very good. Our bathroom set-up was unique, but we adjusted. The beds were good.

The first thing that struck me in a positive way was how good the room smelled and how comfortable and clean everything was in the hotel. I love the wine and cheese, was a better spread then most hotels. It was quite at night, which is a real plus when you stay close to the beach, everything was in walking distance.

Can't afford a trip to Tuscany? Visit Villa Rosa. My wife and I hardly ever leave thee inn.

I visited the Villa Rosa for a friends weekend wedding. The hostess wasn't very pleasant And the room could have used some airing out but the room had a great view for the price!!

Nice location to the beach and main downtown strip, clean neighborhood and breakfast.

This was a brief overnight for my wife and I prior to going on to the Hearst Castle. The Inn is charming, and Annaliese on the front desk is pleasant and service oriented. While the age of the Inn contributes to the charm, it does not support the $260/night rate. We would consider staying here again, but only after carefully considering other options.

Very nice older hotel, vintage decor and a half-block from the beach. The two-story suite was perfect to prevent my wife from complaining about my snoring! Small kitchen was fine. We will stay here again. The "dining" score reflects the complimentary continental breakfast, which was great. They also have wine and cheese in the late afternoon which was also very nice. The hotel doesn't have a restaurant but there are several nearby.

The breakfast was less than what would be offered at a lower end hotel with contential breakfast. I was surprised at this. No eggs or meats included. Totally unexpected. Doesn't take much to make up some hard-boiled eggs etc for even throw some sausage in the microwave for breakfast. Other than that the stay was fine. The second night wine and cheese was good on wine but no cheese or fruit (was "leftover" from the night before.

We enjoyed the Inn altho were in Santa Barbara for a family event and spent little time there other than to sleep. Breakfast was lovely and more than adequate, rooms nicely decorated and clean, the staff was helpful and pleasant. We appreciated the fact that the Inn is located in a quiet area with adequate street parking and close to the harbor area.

Great place for a quick weekend away from Southern Ca. Walking distance to State St and the beach. Our room was a bit noisy early Monday morning due to construction in the alley. We would stay here again, but select another room.

Villa Rosa Inn was a great place to be for a perfect get a away in Santa Barbara. The room was huge, the bed however too small and not of best quality. The Villa Inn itself was cosy, romantic and the pool side was a nice place to enjoy a free welcome drink. All and all a great time traveling through California on HWY1!

My girlfriend and I stayed here, and loved the service. Even with a power outage, we were taken care of right away. There was wine and cheese for the happy hour, which gave it a nice personal touch. The rooms were all unique with a sizable. The pool and hot tub were beautiful outside in the Spanish-style courtyard. I would certainly stay here again.

We had 6 people and had a wonderful time. We wish we could have stayed longer. The Inn was the perfect location. We walked every where. Which was good because we had too much dinner and needed to work it off. Even though our days were rainy it was still well worth it. We will definitly go back, especially to Villa Rosa. The breakfast was perfect for us. Everything we like.

We recently stayed at Villa Rosa and had a wonderful time. The breakfast's were very nice and the wine happy hour nightly was a nice way to start our evening. We stayed in room #3 which has a bedroom upstairs as well as one down with a kitchenette however a very small bathroom. The Inn is in a great location, just a block off the main street where all the shops and restaurants can be found and about them same distance from the beach. Street level noise as well as the second floor noise was a bit of a bother so request a room upstairs or one that is on the interior. Brenda and the rest of the staff did a fantastic job of making us feel welcome and we would stay here again. P&V from Texas

The Villa Rosa Inn was a very convenient walk from the train we arrived on. We were in town by 10am, and the staff was willing to keep our bags until we checked in at 3pm. The location was wonderful, literally minutes from the ocean and downtown Santa Barbara. We enjoyed our room stay in Room 10, but plan on reserving Room 13 or 17 next time.

We had an absolute wonderful stay at the Villa Rosa. The staff is wonderful,very friendly and helpful. They had all kinds of info on restaurants and things to do in Santa Barbara. The hotel is beautiful, nice and quiet, private, and very romantic. I highly recommend it and will tell my friends and family. We will definitely visit the Villa Rosa again.

The rooms are clean and cozy with french doors opening to the courtyard. Nice pool and hot tub. Great experience but it was a little noisy.

We thought it was expensive for what we got, but the service was great and the breakfasts were generous and personal. The closets were not very convenient. They need some new closets. The one we had didn't close properly. Overall, it's a lovely place to relax and walk to nearby attractions. I would recommend this place to my friends but they should lower the price considering the age of the villa.

Our room was spacious but the furnishings were dated and oversized. The fit and finish of the rooms leaves much to be desired. Needs paint desperately. The public rooms are cozy but again the furnishings are out-of-date and very tired.

my boyfriend and I did a short trip in SB, i must say this place is such a good place to stay. the location is very nice, so close to the beach, free wifi, breakfast included. the staff was very nice too. we got room 13, it was a corner room with lots of windows and a small balcony with ocean view. the room was very clean, warm and stylish. if anything i don't like, i would say it was the bed. when I looked in the website, it said the bed was queen size, but that was smaller than queen.

Jorane Barton writes: I paid over $300.00 for a room and the hot water faucet in the bathtub didn't work it just dribbled a tiny amount of water. Also, they messed up my first reservation for a $200.00 room so I had to take what was left because that is where my party was staying. The dusty fake plants in the room and the creepy glass case filled with weird dolls in the reception area was very disturbing. Not a horrible place to stay but no where near worth the price.

Stayed here over a romantic weekend with my girlfriend. Really nice place within walking distance of everything downtown on State Street and nicely placed along the Urban Wine Trail. We went in Feb. so it was chilly but I imagine it would be a perfect summer spot... it's less than a block from the beach. The pool and hot tub are clean. Breakfast is nothing fancy but just enough for what you pay for. Waffles, fruit pastries and cereals. The wine they use for their evening wine is Yellow Tail (pass) but you really are paying for the location, convenience and romantic setting. Will definitely be going back and would recommend to any couple looking to spend a great weekend downtown!

Can best describe it as having met or exceeded all of our expectations and we would not hesitate to stay there on another visit to Santa Barbara.

I took my fiance here for Valentine's week We were both very happy with the look and the feel of the place. Very cute in and out, just could have been a little cleaner, especially outside. The patio furniture chairs are poorly maintained with missing cushions or very dirty. Chairs in bushes that look nice to sit in, but you can't get to and spider webs all over. Inside though is very nice, we had room 13 which has a great view of ocean and nice patio, but a little musty smelling. All in all a nice stay.

we were in #1 room on the street level past the check in desk by the side door entry. too much traffic thru that door next to that room, even the employees. there needs to be a sign posted to alert folks to be quiet as they come and go thru that side entry. our thermostat was broken on the wall heater. we could not adjust. we finally got the maintenance man to turn the whole thing off. it was 80 degrees in there. the maids should have alerted the front desk of the extreme heat before we ck'd in. also, none of the window open to let in fresh cool air. the shower/bath is really not exceptable. way too small and cramped. you get wet when you turn on the handles at the far end of the shower. instead of that awful shower wall, you should tear out and install a bypass clear shower door. it would make the bathroom feel bigger and you could adjust the shower valve without getting wet or chilled with water till it get hot. also,there was no mini refrig.

Villa Rosa inn was a very nice little inn half a block from the beach. Room had a lovely windowseat and comfy beds. The wine and cheese in the evening and breakfast in the morning were both outstanding. The best part of our stay was sitting next to the pool on the charming deck surrounded by trees, birds, and sipping wine. Then after the sun went down we moved into the lovely lobby with a beautiful fireplace. The ambiance was marvelous.

We decided to stay at the Villa Rosa because the "brochure" looked nice. Unfortuantely, our stay was just O.K. We had taken the train and arrived pretty early. We didn't have a car, so we asked the front desk clerk if she could hold our luggage and we would just go walk around. We were told were were welcome to sit in the lobby for 3 hours and wait for our room as they had no where to store luggage. We decided to rent a car a day early so we could store our luggage until check in time whick is 3:00. When we arrived back at the Inn after 3:00, the front clerk gave me our key. Unfortunately, the maid was still cleaning our room. I went down and asked the front clerk what restaurant she would reccomend to go to. Without looking up she stated "I don't know, I'm new around here" We went out for the evening and when we returned to the Inn, our room key didn't work. I proceeded to go down stairs and was greeted by a very nice young lady who stated we were given the wrong keys. As they lock the front door at 11:00 she said we would need a door key also. (which we didn't get initailly). Our room was clean, and the next morning the gentleman on desk duty was superb. I am not sure I would go back again. It was just OK.

Pictures are much more beautiful than reality! It is located in a nice spot near the beach and downtown. The heater in the room I stayed in was broken or something, i had a hard time trying to turn it off. It was so hot I had to open all the windows to allow air flow. The staffs were great and easy to talk to.

Booked at last minute for my wife and I to spend New Years in Santa Barbara. When we arrived we smiled immediately as the rustic hacienda/villa appeal was very evident. The lobby was comfortable and inviting, the staff quick, and the room was great. We saw the other reviews from people not liking the older boutique feel, but that is what we loved. It does not feel like a Hyatt, Sheraton it is individual, unique. Very clean, Large flat screen and the electric fireplace was great additions for January Fog chill. The breakfast and wine and cheese was generous, well done, fresh and felt like it was in someones home instead of a hotel. We will be back for sure and recommend it to anyone looking for a getaway that feels you got away

My wife and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary here on the way to see our kids and grandkids. Great location, clean, cozy, comfortable. Unpretentious and laid back place.

This was my second stay at the Villa Rosa. It is a great location and the room was terrific. The staff were friendly and very helpful.

I was in town for one night to shoot a short TV commercial on a low budget. My camera guy and I got the split-level room (Room 3), which has two floors with a bedroom on each. We were able to stay close to the water AND our shooting location for almost half the price of most of the hotels in that immediate area. Two rooms in one - perfect! They also let us get off the hook for making a last-minute cancellation for the second night, even though I'm pretty sure they have a two-night minimum. Wonderfully cozy place with excellent service - I will be back.

Santa Barbara was a stop over on our way to San Pedro to board a cruise ship. I looked at it as a mini pre-vacation and was delighted with the Villa Rosa Inn. I wanted to be within walking distance to the beach and I got my wish. I described the Inn to our friends as "a cute little Tuscan like place …very quaint and eclectic". We enjoyed just roaming around inside the Inn and it's courtyard area....delighted to discover all the neat little things that made it unique.

First I must say that I liked the place and I will probably stay there again. we went their during the off-season so the place was almost empty, which was great. the Pool, jacuzzi and the yard in general were great. we liked the wine and cheese at 17:00. I would suggest rooms 17 & 18 for the better view of the yard. Location of the INN is perfect. The Inn has 3-4 parking spaces and the remaining parking is on the street with a permit Tag from the Inn. Con: The Inn suppose to have an Old vibe to it, which is perfectly done on the first floor. However, the second floor doesn't look Old, it looks neglected !! All of the Door handles in our rooms were Loose, the Wooden Rolling shade in the main balcony was off its rail when we came into the room. The Heater unit kept making a banding noise. We did complain about the the broken window shade in the bathroom, which was replaced in 30min. Conclusion: This place is nice, The Location is great. it could be perfect if the owners just maintain the rooms properly.

We came in late one night and my wife remarked that it felt like we were coming into our house. That's good. There is a nice sitting area where you can just relax in the evening and meet other guests. There were guests from all over the world.

Had a nice two night visit. Did not use the pool or Jacuzzi during my visit. Bed was comfortable. Room's decor was warm. It was nice not having a "hotel" feel to it. Cons: Electrical outlets sparse. Shower controls not conveniently located.

We stay her fairly consistently when we come to Santa Barbara (probably for 10+ years). Everything has met our expecations in the past and still does - of course, it depends on what you're expecting! This is more smiliar to a European inn - quaint rooms, small properties, wine and cheese in the evenings. We like it .. however to be honest, I feel like the staff is not as warm and friendly as it had been in the past. Before I felt like the manager / inn-keeper was visible and welcoming ... I now felt like the desk staff really didn't care about making us feel welcome or having a conversation. That has changed the feeling for me personally. It is a little dated and worn in places - but we still love it.

Great hotel! The hotel is quaint and very cute. The wine and cheese hour at 5 pm is amazing! I was in town for the Santa Barbara Marathon and this was the perfect place to stay. It ended up being walking distance from the finish line (an added bonus). I would definitely go back!

Handily placed, within a stone's throw of the beach, this lovely suburban villa is ideal for travellers wishing to rest their weary heads. It's also close to the shops and restaurants on State St, with much choice for an evening's enjoyment and entertainment. The rooms are comfortable and cosy. The wine and appetisers offered in the early evening provided a welcome opportunity to meet other guests and to peruse the local information folders for ideas for our stay. We would recommend Villa Rosa Inn to anyone staying for a night or two in Santa Barbara.

Room was clean and quaint. The wall heater did not work but the electric fireplace was also a heater so we did not need both. The bathroom area was very small and did not have a counter to place items on. Single pane windows did not muffle street/sidewalk noise. The breakfast was excellent.

The Villa Rosa Inn is a beautiful Spanish-style building with a lovely courtyard that includes a swimming pool and hot tub. It's in a great location, less than a block from the beach and close to State Street. My room was airy and had lots of windows, but the decor was cluttered and dated. (This was visible on the website so it wasn't unexpected.) The happy hour with wine and appetizers was very nice, although I was disappointed that they ran out of melon at breakfast. The hot tub was enjoyable, but we warned about loose tiles on the steps. I returned in the afternoon and found the door of my room wide open, the door in the hall to the outside wide open and no one around. The maid returned within minutes, but a stranger could easily have walked in. My open room door was visible from the outside.

This little European feeling inn is so charming and a good value, considering the competition. It is not for the pickiest of travelers, but a good place for experienced travelers looking for a unique and romantic experience. While we were there a nearby palm tree took out a major power line, and the power was out all day long. The manor in which the Villa Rosa responded was amazing! There were unhappy guests and confusion everywhere, but they had candles everywhere and offered them to each guest for their guest rooms. The continental breakfast and the appitizers and wine in the evening are a very sweet bonus!

We had an enjoyable stay at Villa Rosa. The staff was friendly and accomodating. The rooms were clean, and their was a good varitity of food for breakfast and afternoon wine and cheese appetizers. The location was great. We were right across the street from the beach, the pier and marina were in walking distance and the trolley to State Street was very close. Overall, we had a great stay and would stay at Villa Rosa again.

I absolutely loved my 3 day stay at the Villa Rosa Inn. It was convenient to the Train Station, to the Wharf area, and the shopping area. It was a very relaxing stay. I want to make it a yearly outing to this place. Although there was one staff who came across as a bit "hard", everyone else was super nice and friendly. I highly recommend Villa Rosa Inn!

We searched online for a B&B that was well-priced and well-reviewed. Villa Rosa was absolutely fine for the price and we would not hesitate to stay there again. My ratings above are all at "met my expectations" and this should not be construed negatively.

Only stayed one night on our way down south, but the inn was very cozy and comfy. The room was very nice, small bathroom but nice furnishings and the view was pretty. The staff was very courteous and the breakfast perfect. Would love to come back and stay for longer.

Gorgeous old property, interesting and charming. No air conditioning was a disappointment - weather was hot. Uncompleted wallboard repairs in bathroom, some upgrades but lots of things that needed to be fixed. Our room just off the lobby was noisy - staff at front desk and in hallway talked loudly

Our room was in a building separate from the main inn. It was nothing like the pictures in the accompanying photo album. The room was old and tired and the bed creaked loudly with the slightest movement. We did not sleep much because of this. Also, the view from our window was of a trash collection area. We booked this inn because it had a lower rate and the pictures of the rooms were beautiful. We were disappointed.

It is the best of the best hotels!!! I was there like on the heaven. It is a lovely and clean hotel with exclusive and stylish rooms and unforgettable view. The pool area was fabulous. Location of the hotel was amazing; it’s very close to the beach. Fantastic Hotel and I would recommend it to everybody!!! I love it so much!!!

This was my first stay at a bed and breakfast and I was really disappointed. I expected a more homey feel as I if was someone's house guest. Instead I got continental breakfast and free wine at dusk which I can get at most hotels these days.

I love staying at the Villa Rosa. It reminds me of going to my grandmother's house on Lake Michigan. It is very quiet, and the staff goes out of their way to help you. It is definitely a bed and breakfast. Do not expect the Four Seasons. However, the rooms are spacious and well decorated with flat screen TVs. They offer a yummy breakfast in the morning (the waffles were amazing). They also have a lovely wine and cheese buffet in the late afternoon. I can't wait to return when I am not working, and have time to walk across the street to Stern's Wharf.

My two friends and I wanted to stay in a reasonably priced inn that represented Santa Barbara architecture. We knew that at our price range we couldn't get an elaborate setting, but we were hoping for some charm. The Villa Rosa was built in the 1920's as a guest house for a local college, and the innkeeper has tried to keep the vintage feel in both the inn and the grounds. The three of us shared room #6 which has two comfortable queens and a roll-a-way which we added for an extra fee. In addition to the ambiance, we thought that the quiet location convenient to walking to the wharf and State street, the free parking, and the breakfast/happy hour, made the inn a perfect match for us.

The Villa Rosa Inn is a quaint B&B situated within a 5 min walk from the wharf and shoreline of Santa Barbara. Also within a short distance is the SB tram trolley which runs up and down State Street (main street) on a regular basis for a minimal fee. The B&B reception staff were very helpful & friendly and go out of their way to make sure your stay is as enjoyable as possible. The continental breakast is wonderful and allows plenty of time for a leisurely breakfast before commencing the start of your day. The afternoon cheese and wine selection is also a wonderful way to relax after a day of shopping, touring, or having enjoyed a more strenuous day of fun and activities. Rooms maybe slightly smaller than a newer hotel/motel room but the character and charm of this B&B, the staff, its location to all facilities and the atmosphere of this B&B make it a place I would highly recommend and will certainly be returning to next time I am in Santa Barbara.

Unfortunately, we won't be able to recommend Villa Rosa Inn and will not be returning. We are regular visitors to Santa Barbara and decided to give VRI a try. It was unclean, poorly maintained and the maintenance staff did not respond after three requests to repair two doors! Not anything as it appears on the internet!!!

I love this place so much that I'm afraid to give it a good review for fear that everyone will storm the place. It's close to the beach, the staff is very nice, and they always remember us. It's such a homey place, that it feels like I live there. Love it love it love it.

Only a half block up from the beach and Stearns Wharf. Close to State Street restaurants and shops. Clean, comfortable room and bed. The room showed the age of the place. Shower head did not work well. The towel rack was broken, and it was a good thing that there was a floor fan, because without it, the room was stuffy. The continental breakfast was better than I expected. Not a lot of seating, but that wasn't really a problem. Advertising was right. A good room for tourists on a budget.

The Villa Rosa Inn is a charming 18-room Bed and Breakfast across the street from the beach in Santa Barbara. The exterior is lovely and it is clear that much attention has been given to the landscaping. The inside is Spanish hacienda-style but could use a little attention. Our room, although small,was furnished adequately and on first glance appeared clean. A closer look showed cobwebs in the corners and lots of dirt behind the toilet in the bathroom. The electrical outlets were falling out of the walls which could potentially be a bit of a hazard. The happy hour and continental breakfast were both nice...nothing special but served the purpose. The pool area is also beautifully landscaped but the pool never looked very clean and one of the steps to the hot tub was broken. All in all, it was a positive experience and we would probably stay there again.

Villa Rosa is the only place to stay in Santa Barbara for the price, location, service - it's simply the best.

Our room was really charming but the bathroom was dated and really small. The Villa Rosa is in a great location. What this means though is that they don't have enough parking spaces for all the guests. If you park on the street, be sure to ask for a parking hang tag if they don't offer one. We didn't know about this option and ended up getting a ticket. The breakfast was nice, the evening wine and hosr d'ouevres were unexpected and great and the nightcap port was just the ticket. You can walk to all the hotspots along the water from here.

Spent one night here with my girlfriend, and enjoyed it very much. Great value, perfect location, nice and quiet, friendly staff. Would definitely stay here again!

Although the location is great and the staff behind the counter is friendly, this little place fails in so many areas. Upon arrival, the Inn looked very quaint. We checked in and were told how to find our room - #16 at the top of the stairs. When we climbed the stairs we saw that the door was open, there was a fan standing in front of the open french doors from the outside, and it seemed to be airing out from some sort of smell. We had to be somewhere right away, so we shut the door and didn't come back until after 8:00. We walked into our deluxe room only to discover the sewer smell permeating the room. My husband when down to the desk to complain about the smell - he didn't mention what it smelled like but the staff said right away - oh you mean the sewer smell? She looked for some air fresheners for us, but couldn't find any. She called the owner and was told he would bring some over for us. My husband told her to leave it on the counter for us as we were going out. At our last check at 11:00 p.m. there was still no air freshener. The next morning we asked if there was any air freshener-none. We spent the day walking all around the beach-enjoyed the day and all the festivities and decided to come back for their wine and cheese offerings. The owner apparently heard our complaints and left to go get some air freshener. When he returned he came up to me and started berating me for speaking poorly about his Inn-in front of the other guests. All it would have taken was some simple air freshener. If the owner had gotten it right away, I would have overlooked the other things. Or, if after realizing I was a little upset about the whole thing, he could have come over and apologized for our inconvenience and fixed it right away-not come over and yell at me.

Location good if you wish to be near the beach, but the B and B had no personal feel to it, and often the front office staff seemed completely disinterested and very distant from the guests (with one exception). Also, the breakfast was very disappointing (the wine and cheese was definitely better), with mostly plastic plates and utensils and nothing that seemed as though it had any home touch at all..and very little space for the guests to sit comfortably It really did not have a feel at all of what I would consider a good B and B.

From the outside, the Villa Rosa Inn looks like a gem. However, nothing about the interior lives up to that first impression. The inn’s interior design is not so much design as it is an interior mishmash of mostly cheap textiles and furniture. The bed we had was rock hard; the bed linens were synthetic, and made us yearn for home. The Inn has good architectural bones and it breaks our hearts to see it not be given its rightful due. Breakfast? Sure, not bad if you like little plastic containers of grape jelly, soft, warm butter packets and cheap bread that is brought out the night before and allowed to go stale, leading us to the conclusion that nobody wanted to get up early enough to put out fresh bread. The one ray of European light that the Inn claims as its pedigree may be the coffee, which was pretty good. Our first room – yes, we had to move – featured no windows but instead French doors, which opened out on to the entrance of the Inn. We had to keeps these open to let in some night air since there was no other ventilation to speak of (aside from an oddly placed ceiling fan). Of course, there were no screen doors so we spent the night battling mosquitoes. After our first sleepless night, we we’re given a new room. Our effort to catch up on lost sleep that afternoon proved fruitless as a loud wedding in the adjacent Veteran’s Hall commenced at 4 PM. Apparently, according to an Inn employee, most Fridays and Saturdays feature loud activities in the Veteran's Hall, something we would have liked to know before making the room switch. Indeed, had we known, we would have switched hotels altogether.

Rooms needing a little sprucing up...towel brackets on bathroom wall but no rack, boiler outside room loud during early morning showers & occasionally during night. Inn is old & probably to be expected. Suggestion: put higher wattage light bulbs in room as mirror & other part of room pretty dark.

We stayed 2 nights in Santa Barbara and really loved Villa Rosa Inn. It had a pretty pool, sofas by a fire place, beautiful rooms and complimentary breakfast and wine and cheese in the afternoon. The only downside was the ignorant staff (not unfriendly but not very helpful and absolutely not in accordance with your expectations of people working in the service business. The prices were also fairly high.

Not knowing the inn or the area, I let the reservation/desk clerk suggest a room and couldn't be happier with the view of the ocean from my private, albeit small, balcony (room 13). Happy hour snacks and drinks were nothing special but nice and the atmosphere and couches were comfortable in the lobby area.

We make a trip to Santa Barbara at least once per year and would NEVER dream of staying anywhere but the Villa Rosa Inn. The rooms are immaculately clean and comfortable. We always request Room #9, but have had very pleasant stays in some of the other rooms, as well. The beautiful trees and flowers surrounding the windows outside gives one the feeling he is in a "jungle." It is such a luxury to go to sleep at night with the windows open enjoying the fresh, clean air and the ocean surf. My favorite part of our visits is the wine and cheese service in the afternoons while sitting around the pool. The inn is a rustic, Spanish style building and breathes of antiquity and "old world" charm. The only drawbacks that might bother some, are the small sized bathrooms and lack of parking area on the street. We always find a good parking space in front of, or on the side of, the inn and STAY there until we check out. The inn is within walking distance from the beach, the pier, and several good restaurants. Our visits to Santa Barbara would certainly be less appealing if we could not stay at the Villa Rosa. Make your reservations early. You won't be disappointed. It is one of the most outstanding B&B's we've experienced!

We stayed for five nights in the cottages associated with the Villa Rosa Inn and they were such an amazing value and the perfect place for an extended stay! We had a full kitchen, oodles of closet space, a jacuzzi tub, and extremely comfortable beds. In fact, I think those beds were the most comfortable hotel beds I've encountered in years (and we travel a good deal!). Kind and friendly front desk folks. Excellent free breakfast, full of variety. I HIGHLY recommend the Villa Rosa Inn and its cottages!!!!

We enjoyed everything about this lovely hotel. Loved being here! The ambiance of "Old Santa Barbara." The food was great and so were the beds and rooms.

The rooms were nice and clean. The location is excellent for walking to the beach and on the pier, or checking out the State street shops (little further of a walk). The bathroom was a little small, but other than that, I was very pleased with my choice in lodging.

If you are looking for a modern and hip place to stay, this is not the place for you. This place is quiet and not your ordinary place. Be careful when choosing your room the rooms can be small the bathrooms even smaller. There are no elevators. There is no 24hr staff on duty. When staff is on duty they are very helpful. this place is walking distance from great places to eat and sterns wharf. bottom line this place is great for those who want to relax at a quiet and quaint place.

The Villa Rosa Inn was very cute. We did not use the pool or hottub but they looked nice. The room was pretty average but it was what I expected. The breakfast was all continental. We were very disappointed. We have stayed at several B&B's and they have all served hot breakfasts. The breakfast at Villa Rosa was the same as what some hotels serve; muffins, bagles, yogurt, fruit but it was gone by the time we got there, juice, and a belgian waffle machine where you make your own. The overall feel of Villa Rosa was more of an Inn than a B&B. We are used to the owners coming out and greeting us and making/serving the breakfast. The only "employees" we saw were the housekeepers and the girl that worked at the front desk. If you are looking for a true B&B this is not the place for you. If you just want a cute place to sleep at that's near the beach and has a free continental breakfast then The Villa Rosa Inn is your place.

Although the included breakfast was very simple and the dining space very limited, Villa Rosa Inn offers an interesting mix of services and cozy and charm environment; we were there for only 1 night, but our two kids could enjoy the pool and the heated spa, as well as play into the internal garden; the room offers enough space and there is a refrigerator by the dining room available for the guests.

This was a true delight staying here. The facilities are beautiful. Full of gardens and flowers. The staff was fantastically helpful and accommodating. I definitely would love to stay again.

We are always happy to return to the Villa Rosa. Everyone is friendly and helpful and make us feel at home. Especially, Daniella. She was such a Joy. Her grace and warmth are very special. We are going to miss her.

My husband, my parents and I stayed at the Villa Rosa Inn for a break of 5 nights. We had a troublesome journey and the Villa Rosa staff welcomed us nonetheless at midnight with a smile and a glass of wine! The rooms are cosy and decorated with attention to detail. The garden, the pool and the living room areas are beautiful. We enjoyed the complementary wine and cheese a lot as it allowed to socialize with other guests, too. Our receptionist/concierge on duty was amazing! She arranged a great spa treatment, had many useful tips and hints and most importantly she always had a smile on her face! We enjoyed it so much that we asked friends to join us for 2 nights and they loved it, too. If you are looking for a relaxing break in cozy rooms close to the sea and walking distance from downtown: stay here. We are definetely coming back. P.S.: For extra romance ask for a room with fire place...

My husband and I checked-in to the Villa Rosa Inn for a romantic getaway and upon entering the room we realized we had 2 queen beds, which we weren't aware of when reserving the room. The owner stepped into our room and asked us if we'd like a different room, we said we wouldn't mind looking around. He gave us a gorgeous king room upstairs at no extra charge! Even though it was a quite a bit more. We were so pleasantly surprised and felt very well taken care of. We'll definitely be back!

After moving away from California, when I would often stay in Santa Barbara as a treat, I did not return for many years. Recently my husband, who does not know California, had to travel there for business. I accompanied him, wanting to show him some of my favorite places. I made reservations at Villa Rosa, and was not disappointed in my memory of the lovely rooms, friendly staff, comfortable yet elegant ambiance, and convenience to beach and town. My husband fell in love with the place, and we had a wonderful experience, in spite of the midnight marauding group of students invading the Inn and knocking on our door, insisting they had been invited, and would be welcomed as they had alcohol. The owners addressed this problem, but when the students took to the street and continued to be loud and disturbing, it seemed to take longer than necessary for quiet to be restored. We've decided this should be an amusing element to the story of our weekend at the Villa Rosa and my husband is willing to again take time to vacation in California.

I have stayed at the Villa Rosa Inn in Santa Barbara several times now. LOVE IT. It is a short walk to the beach, the pier, restaurants and shopping. Having said that, I find that I don't want to leave my room or the property! Just gives you that European feel - and also very home-ey. It is truly a romantic, enchanting place. I have looked elsewhere to find a perhaps less expensive place (although Villa Rosa is very reasonable for the area), but haven't been able to bring myself to switch. You can't beat the ambience, the proximity to the beach/pier and the charm. Can't say enough good about this place. Enjoy!

I had looked on line for days and a friend suggested i look into this place, saying he had checked it out once and the place had character. Our room was on the first floor next to the reception desk, it was a good size with an electric fireplace and flat screen tv, and an up to date bathroom. We got to the hotel just in time for the complimentary wine and cheese. We sat in the reception area for wine and cheese, there was a fire in the fireplace and the reception area and front room were very quaint, really liked the roaring fire. My friends had a room upstairs, it had two French doors opening onto the ppol and courtyard, very nice. This room was about the same size as the room down stairs. There was no elevator and my friends were travelling from the East, so had heavy luggage. The hotel is an older Spanish Style Hotel, but had lots of character like my friend had told me. The continental breakfast the next morning was very extensive, they had croissants, pastries, waffles, fruit, oatmeal and cereal, yogurt, coffee, teas water and juices...We enjoyed that same room we had wine and cheese the night before. The pool area was very green and attractive with a hot tub. We enjoyed the hotel and think it is a good value.

Only problem is the door key, kind of hard to open the door. Bathroom is small especially the toilet. Location is great. Breakfast is decent.

My fiance and I stayed at the Villa Rosa Inn and we loved it. The staff was warm and welcoming. They had a nice wine and snacks happy hour and a great continental breakfast. I must say though room #1 does get noisy in the morning with other guest coming in and out of the side door, but above all else our stay was beautiful.

Villa Rosa is very quaint. The only issue was that they required a two night minimum when they had vacancies. Other than that we would highly recommend them. 1 block from the beach!

We were 5 women on a little getaway and Villa Rosa was the perfect home base!

We were very happy with our room, which was on the ground floor so we didn't have to walk up stairs with our luggage. The room overlooked the charming courtyard with pool and hot tub (I used the hot tub but it was a bit cool for the pool). I sat on the little patio off the room several times and enjoyed the sun. The atrium off the bathroom gave the feeling of a garden. The breakfasts were fine, although an option of whole wheat toast instead of sweet danishes would have been more to my taste. But the fresh oranges and other fruit was welcome. The afternoon wine and cheese was nice, and one evening that was our dinner, since we had had a big lunch on the pier. The close walk to the beach and pier and the 25 cent shuttle bus up State street was great. We would stay again if we came back to the area.

First visit, picked the hotel off the internet, couldn't have been more pleased with the accomodations and service staff (Sarah was very helpful and made a great dinner recommendation).

Our first stay. The hotel has charm but the rooms need attention. We styed in room 17 and the bed kept us awake most of the night because the frame sweeked literally when you moved a toe! The room needed attention and has very old bathroom, the door was disgusting. While the lady that checked us in was lovely, the young lady who worked on the weekends clearly did not want to be there and would have much rather been sleeping in her bed at home. My husband and I stay in lots of B&B's and it is clear that the owners of the Inn have no involvement in the hotel. It was a great location:) Will not be staying there again.

The Villa Rosa Inn is an older building in the heart of Santa Barbara that has a unique feel, good service, a wine & cheese reception every evening between 5 & 7, good breakfast, and a beautiful atrium area with pool. The rooms are fairly small but have a comfortable bed. The shower however, isn't suitable for men over 6'0'', as the shower head is fairly low.

Perfectly located and convenient parking, the Villa Rosa was perfect for a quick coastal getaway. Don't expect much for breakfast--and even on weekends, it disappears at 10am sharp! The downstairs rooms can be noisy, so, choose to stay upstairs. The little fake fireplaces are cute, but useless for heat-and the bathrooms are especially cramped. Towels are less than soft and absorbent-kind of retro. The staff seem preoccupied and appear bothered by requests-so, thank goodness the rooms are clean and pleasant!

We Had a very nice one night stay. The price was very good, the room had both comfort and character and the breakfast was good. I'd definitely reccommend the Villa Rosa inn.

Went to the Villa Rosa for New Years with my husband. We got a room in the main house. THe entrance is lovely and the location right across from the pier (but not facing traffic) was great. THe room was comfortable and had a cute patio but not fancy; the bathroom was stark and dormitory-like. But the worst part was the noise- our room was located next to a staff area and the staff were talking, shouting down the halls, and laughing at 7 am (New Year's Day!)- very, very inconsiderate and unprofessional. The manager reduced our room rate when we complained, but really..... The hotel has a wine and cheese 2 hours in the evening which was very nice; the breakfast is continental and not the nice breakfast fare you usually expect from a B and B. While we were there another couple complained that the jacuzzi tub that was promised did not exist in their room (apparently only some have it). The manager or perhaps owner was polite but overall the place did not exude warmth or hospitality. So-- better than a hotel, but not a B and B experience.
