Very Nice close to shops and resturants, we walked to the ports from here,Love this place will come back , great for small weddings...

Location is great and while many would complain about the noise (car, trolley, trains, and yes planes), the comfort and home away from home feel far outshadow the noise. Top it off with close proximity to great restaurants, art galleries, and a view of the harbor, The Little Italian Bed & Breakfast has earned a place at the top of our list of places to stay in San Diego. Ask for Chef Sunny....he makes a great spinach and mushroom omelet or pancakes and is very accommodating for us picky eaters...his positive temperament and "Sunny" personality are in and of itself reason to come back. We were looking for a nicely priced B&B near Little Italy for the weekend and happened upon The Italian. It's basically a house with four bedrooms. The common areas are very nicely appointed with a little living room in front and a dining room that's attached to the kitchen. The only thing that was somewhat strange was check-in was across the street at a hotel. And, we had an issue with our key and understanding which room was ours. The other guests were very friendly and the overall experience was really great. I'd highly recommend this to anyone who has experience staying in these types of accommodations. We had the least expensive room, which has a bathroom down the hall. All other rooms have their own bathroom (which I'd recommend).

This B & B had no hospitality. Our room was not ready, no one to greet us or show us to our room. If we wanted something we had to go across the street to the Harborview Motel. I would get more attention at a Motel 6. It felt like an overflow for the less than desirable Motel the owners run. For the money I would expect a little warm hospitality and at least working light bulbs and kleenex in the room. We were very disappointed.

I have stayed here several times, and will continue to make it my refuge in San Diego. Mary was a phenomenal innkeeper and Ashley is equally personable, welcoming, helpful, and an incredible chef. The breakfasts are gourmet! This place truly embodies the "make yourself at home" mentality. The location is excellent, and Little Italy is a great neighborhood to explore with tons of shops and delicious eateries. Bottom line: don't pass up this bed and breakfast if you are staying in San Diego!

Check in time was 3pm but room was not ready until 4pm. The only morning we had breakfast, by time we got it, everything was cold. But I don't feel it was our chefs fault. Another guest requested breakfast 30 mins earlier than everyone so I think that contributed to the problem. Other than that, I loved staying here!!!

It was a great weekend for our engagement. Nice and relaxing get away. The walls are little thin so you could hear someone getting up in the middle of the night or the TV in the next room. The breakfast was excellent.

We stayed at the Italian B&B recently and enjoyed our visit. Ashley, the chef, is a lovely person and made us a wonderful breakfast every morning. We enjoyed the common spaces and meeting other guests at the breakfast table. The owner, Jay, was totally absent, in fact the few times he appeared on the property, he did not introduce himself or inquire about our stay. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again but if you are uncomfortable on your or want a lot of attention from staff then this is not the place for you.

What a wonderful little spot right in the city. You are one block away from some phenomenal Italian restaurants and within walking distance of all of downtown- the Gaslamp, Petco Park, Horton Plaza, etc. The room was great, the bed super comfy, and the hospitality top-notch. We would return here in a heartbeat!

A nicely decorated home in a walkable neighborhood with great restaurants. Ashley, the Chef, spoiled us with gourmet breakfasts each morning and a nice sunny disposition. Everyone one there was very helpful. Enjoyed visiting with thie other guests at breakfast. Airplane noise was not a problem and we would stay again. Breakfast was served a little late for us which was the only negative.

This was our second experience with a B&B and we may never use a hotel again. For the price, we were very pleased with the service. As the only customers, we had a great deal of privacy with our host checking in daily to ensure we were happy. The location was very convenient - walkable to Harbor and Gaslamp. Good restaurants in the area. Cook served wonderful breakfast and accommodated our schedule. We will be back.

Overall I had a great experience staying at the Italian Bed and Breakfast. The rooms are cozy, the sheets are soft, and the entire establishment is very clean. In addition to a sit down freshly made breakfast every morning at 9am, there was always some sort of yummy baked treat left out for me to snack on when I came back to the room at night. I also liked that duraflame's were left outback next to the fire pit. My friend and I cozied up to a drink and a fire almost every night of our stay. The only cons are that there is no host around in the evenings to suggest dinner spots or other travel events. And Chef Gayle didn't seem very knowledgeable of local transportation. Also, there is no place to leave your luggage during the day if you have a late flight. These complaints are pretty minor though. This is a great bed and breakfast, and I would definitely stay again!

We had a great stay at this b & b. The breakfast was fantastic. Gayle the chef and her intern (whose name i cannot remember, sorry) made us very welcome and had me trying some very different but tasty breakfasts.

This was my first time visiting San Diego, and I'm so glad I stayed at The Italian Bed & Breakfast. The location, right in Little Italy, was ideal, and everything I wanted to see was in a nice close radius. The back patio was lovely, and the room was clean and spacious. The best part, by far, was the breakfast -- it was really quite delicious and not at all the usual bed & breakfast fare. If I had any complaints, it was that parking was a bit challenging, and this is definitely NOT a place to stay if you'd like to sleep in. The first morning we were there we were awoken by very loud voices at 5:30 a.m. having breakfast right outside our room, and the noise never quieted down. We had checked in late the night before, and the note left for us said that breakfast was to be served at 9:00 a.m. When we entered the dining room at 9:00 a.m., we were greeted with choruses of "Finally! Everyone else ate at a reasonable hour!" and "We thought for sure we were being loud enough to wake you up." You were guys... you were. Still, totally worth it. Just be sure you're willing to be up before dawn.

We stayed for one evening and had a wonderful time. The breakfast was terrific. The inn is in a noisy section of town but with great access to the freeway.

Overall, my stay at The Italian B & B was great. Mary was a phenomenal host and the breakfast was divine. The room I stayed in was quaint and cozy. My only complaint (minor complaint) is that the room was hot and there was no AC. When I went to turn on the ceiling fan, it was dusty and made an awful noise. I couldn't use it. Nonetheless, I had a great time and would stay at this B & B again. It's located right in the heart of Little Italy and close to some fabulous shops & restaurants.

Housekeeping is in all rooms as we speak checking and cleaning...and thanks for letting me know. One of our main issues with the AC....often when its on....other guests open windows anyhow....some want fresh air some want the AC...we are working on a solution. Glad you mentioned it. I spent one night at the B&B and am anxious to return very soon. I arrived without a reservation, but Mary immediately made me feel as though she was expecting me all along. After settling in as a solo guest, Mary accompanied to a great restaurant in Little Italy for a late lunch. Mary and I became fast friends - as though we had known each other our whole adult lives. Mary's warmth and the B&B ambience provided a great evening visiting with other guests around the dining area's large table which picked up again at the morning breakfast. It was so nice to enjoy a more than ample and delicious breakfast prior to continuing my travels.

Its a nice change of pace to also enjoy our community and I am glad you enjoyed your time here. Its a nice treat to have time to have lunch with our guests who always turn into friends. We will do it again.

We just got back from staying there June 16 through 18. The host/innkeeper Mary is very hospitable without being intrusive. The house itself is done very charmingly with attention to detail. Mary makes wonderful breakfasts that are just enough, healthy, very well prepared and delicious. She is also a conversationalist, takes the time to let you know what the local happenings and hangouts are. She is very knowledgable about the area having lived there for a long time.You can get a real feel for the local area here. This place is walking distance to almost everything-restaurants, nice bars, the waterfront, the rail system, buses, trolleys and Balboa Park is within 20 minutes walk.

Great introduction to Little Italy- gotta be up close to get the feel of the neighborhood. We loved walking up and down India Street, inhaling little wisps of garlic and other flavors of Italian cooking, and finding wines and foods unavailable anywhere else. Plus, Mary is great fun. She's warm, welcoming, and entertaining. If you see bread pudding, eat it immediately. This is something many people mess up, but we loved hers. Mary is a chef and she takes her craft very seriously, to our great benefit.

The Italian Bed and Breakfast is in a great location, easy to walk to the water and explore the different neighborhoods of San Diego. Mary was a wonderful host. Breakfast was delicious!

My husband and I had a wonderful time at the Italian Bed and Breakfast! The rooms were very cozy and clean! My husband and I felt like we were visiting family. The innkeeper, Mary, was the absolute best! She was so knowledgeable and kind! She gave us many recommendations on where to dine and shat good foods to order, and she was right every time! She is an awesome chef! Her breakfasts were top notch. I felt like it was something that you would see on Food TV! The other couples we met during our stay were so nice. We all ate breakfast togerther each morning, which was really great. We live in San Diego County, but we had never experienced our city like this before! We will definitely return to the Italian Bed and Breakfast!

A lovely entrance, a warm welcome, and delightful rooms awaited us at The Italian Bed & Breakfast in San Diego. The interior is decorated with rich, warm tones and comfortable sitting rooms. In town for only a short visit, we were very pleased with our accommodations. Our room was spacious and well-appointed with thick, absorbent towels and cool, crisp bed linens. Chef Mary Trimmins creates a wonderful selection for breakfast and her sweet afternoon treats are the perfect addition to a nice cup of tea. My wife and I recently stayed at The Italian and from the moment we arrived, Mary was our best friend. She made us feel very welcome and part of her family. I took my wife here as a surprise and she loved it. We met so many wonderful people from as far away as Seattle, Long Beach and Phoenix. The accomodations were nice, clean and very much like home with the Italian flair. Our bed was comfortable and cozy. Our breakfast was homemade, fresh and wonderful.Truly one of our best stays at a Bed and Breakfast. We are sure to return. Staying at this B&B was a fantastic experience! The innkeeper, Mary, is a phenomenal chef and very knowledgeable about what local restaurants and attractions are worth seeing. The location is near perfect in Little Italy, within walking distance of many restaurants, the harbor, and the Old Town Trolley Tour stop in Little Italy and a very short drive to the Gaslamp District. We definitely plan to stay there again.

This small little B&B in the heart of San Diego is a hidden treasure. Mary didn't seem like just an 'inn-keeper,' she was a new friend. She made my husband and I feel very comfortable (and its hard to make my husband feel comfortable when he's outside of his comfort zone.) Mary was amazing, and the breakfast was just as amazing. The room El Florencia is where we stayed. It was truly lovely and comforting. The location of The Italian B&B is perfectly located in the heart of San Diego! We stayed one night, but wish we could've stayed longer! I usually don't write reviews on things, but I HAD to about this place.

We stayed 2 nights-wish it could have been longer!! We enjoyed spending time with Mary and felt as if we had been friends forever. Loved the feel of the place-felt as comfortable as if we were in our own home. The B&B is located in Little Italy-easily within walking distance to numerous restaurants as well as the waterfront. Will definitely stay there again when we return to the area!!

The location was great, the room clean and comfortable, and Mary made us feel completely welcome even before we arrived. She goes above and beyond to ensure guests have what they need and then some...and of course the food was fabulous!

My wife and I stayed at the Italian B&B for an anniversary trip, we wanted someplace cozy and romantic, and that is exactly what we found at the Italian, Mary (the chef/innkeeper) and the staff were vary kind at all times. The B&B is quite small, only four rooms with a beautiful italian decoration, elegant and clean, flat screen TV in every room and in the living area, the open kitchen and dinning room are great for a good conversation with Mary during the delicious breakfasts. It is located in the heart of little italy, two blocks from the sign, so you can go for a nice dinner, or a walk at any time of day, the saturday farmers market is three blocks away and worth the walk. Another plus is that it is owned by the same people as the hotel in the corner, so if necessary, there is someone to help (I did not need that but it is nice anyway). Parking is complimentary a block and a half away, but is rather small, one night we had to leave the car out but was no problem, the neighbornhood is nice and safe. All in all, a great experience, and definitely worth returning.

It was a wonderful experience. My husband and I really enjoyed our time there it is within walking distance of Little Italy. It was a fun experience. The Italian was so comfortable and affordable it was like being at home. Chef Mary was awesome the food was great. I will be returning no question about it.

We had the privilege of staying at this lovely B&B in Little Italy recently. It is most charming~~~~so beautifully decorated. You feel like you have stepped into Italy as soon as you walk through the frontdoor. Each bedroom has beautiful decor, and has everything in it to make you feel special and spoiled. Mary, the Innkeeper, is wonderful~~~attending to any wants or needs. Her breakfasts are unbelievable~~~filling enough to last you most of the day!!! We always stay in B&Bs when possible, and this rates with the very best! This beautiful B&B is right in the middle of Little Italy, which has wonderful resturants and shops!! It is only a very short cab ride from the airport, and also to local transportation. It is close to the downtown gaslight district
