This is a fun, old-fashioned b and b with cute cottages and most of all a fabulous garden, which is the perfect place to enjoy the delicious free breakfast. Hummingbirds buzzed around us both mornings as we enjoyed perfect weather in a lovely setting -- and even wound up sitting next to folks we had just met that week in San Francisco. Charming, low-key, convenient and beautifully located in a grove of redwoods and -- yes -- huge ferns.

We loved our stay! My husband, father and brother stayed in the 2 bedroom cottage and enjoyed every thing about it-- the beautiful courtyard, fire pit and barbecue, the fun cruiser bikes, the delicious breakfast. Tons of attention to detail, perfect proximity to darling town, and an utterly charming and woodsy atmosphere. We will definitely return.

staff was truly helpful and friendly, cottages were very clean and comfortable, super easy walk to "downtown" and wonderful bike ride (with free bikes) to the redwoods - which are definitely worth a visit. didn't have time to use the pool but wish we did, the breakfast was well appointed and super fresh, will definitely be back.

I liked the location. Wonderful hosts. great food. lots of super info about the area. You will need to bring extension cords if you have a lot of electrical equipment and get an ice chest for your drinks but otherwise, pretty awesome. Loved the jacuzzi. Loved the pool. Loved easy access to town and good food.

We had a fantastic time here. The owner is amazing. Very friendly and helpful. The cottages are so cute and the pool was heated and refreshing. We loved the morning breakfast and relaxing in the evening by the fire pit. We will definitely come back!!

I was surprised how comfortable the cottage was. Refrigerator, microwave, and two real wine glasses. Large pool and friendly helpful staff.

It was nice cute cottage with great garden. Free Wine tasting comes with the stay and that was great. Thank you.

Jennifer is a great host. She took a bit of time with us to explain what was onsite as well as the wine perks (free tastings at many nearby wineries!). She also took the time to recommend great dining locations. The onsite continental breakfast was great. They provided all the basics as well as some nice dishes to serve yourself fruit, granola, yogurt, bagels and even hard-boiled eggs. The grounds are very well kept and the pool looks very inviting! Parking your car near your room is available too. All in all -- Great place and we will be back!

Our one bedroom suite was charming and relaxing. These historic cottages have been updated with mini kitchenettes and gas fireplaces that turn on with a twist of the thermostat. We enjoyed day trips for canuing on the river, hiking, biking, wine-tasting and eating at amazing restaurants. Be aware that you can hear the highway from the property, although we did not notice road noise from inside our cottage. The owner, Jenne, was very helpful in assisting us with planning out activies each morning and even mailed us items that we left behind at the end of our stay! The homemade granola and pretty patio with grills and a fire pit are an added bonus.

Cute cozy cottages among beautful beds of flowers, bushes and trees. Outstanding breakfast. Onsite heated pool, BBQ, fire pit. Free bicycle rental. Best of all: Jenny, the owner. So knowledgable about the area, restaurants, vineyards. She gave us the best recommendations. She goes the extra mile to make sure her guests are happy. We had a wonderful stay and think about returning during our next visit to Sonoma.

Staff assisted in my reservations and welcomed all my guests. My niece reported she felt she walked back in time: a homey setting, comfortable cottages, sweet garden spaces, gorgeous redwoods. We enjoyed sharing the pool Wednesday evening with merpeople. The dining area was a perfect place for us to gather in the evening for games. I only regretted we didn't experience Samores over the outdoor fire pit: we will have to wait for another visit to enjoy the BBQ area which was charming.

Beautiful landscaping, awesome breakfast, perfect distance from downtown Guerneville. I downgraded the room a tad because I found the "spa only", no shower a little difficult for bathing ( you have to climb down into the tub and use a hand-held shower-hard to wash your hair). All in all, a very lovely place and Jennifer was super.

We enjoyed our 3-night stay at Fern Grove Cottages. My husband and I spent most of each day wine tasting, so it was very helpful to have the Complimentary Wine Tasting Card along with a winery map. The inn keeper had highlighted and/or written in the winery names on the map which were included on the complimentary tasting cards. She also helped direct us to wineries that matched our interests, and she gave us a rundown of the restaurant options in town, taking time to answer all our questions about the area. The cottages are small and built quite close together on the property. The outdoor space is beautifully landscaped with flowers everywhere. We had a one bedroom cottage with a living room, kitchenette, and a spa tub in the bathroom (room 18). There was plenty of space for us. The comfortable furnishings were well chosen to maximize the space. Breakfast was delicious. The food is served buffet style. We were able to choose from fresh berries, granola, various baked goodies, and more, which is just what I want for breakfast. The only thing I would improve at breakfast would be to provide bigger drinking glasses for the orange juice and water.

We very much enjoyed our three-night stay at the Fern Grove Cottages. We had a one-bedroom cottage with a spa tub, and, while the cottage was not large, it allowed us to spread out and to feel more at home. The cottages have a rustic feel, which is fitting for the surroundings, that includes redwood trees, as well as some nice gardened areas. During our stay, we were hiking and kayaking, so we enjoyed soaking in the spa tube in the evenings. It was also nice to be able to sit on the small porch area outside the room and enjoy the surroundings and a glass of wine. There is a fairly large common area with grills and tables, which we used one night. We found the innkeeper to be friendly and helpful with suggestions about things to do, including an explanation and recommendations for the free wine pass, and places to eat. The rate included a wonderful breakfast of fruit, yogurt, hardboiled eggs, bread and pastries. On our trip, which last about two weeks, we stayed in several places that offered breakfast and this was far and away the best. The complex is located on River Road (Highway 116), so there is some road noise. At first we were concerned, but perhaps since our cottage was near the back of the complex, the noise didn’t bother us, even when we were sitting on the porch. The cottages are on the edge of Guerneville, and you can walk into town, which we did one night for dinner. There is a short distance without sidewalks, however, so you need to be careful to avoid the traffic on River Road.

We just celebrated our anniversary at Fern Grove Cottages last weekend and have nothing but great things to say about it! The landscaping is beautiful with many different kinds of plants and flowers everywhere you look. The pool is very nice and heated too. The cottages are charming and clean and have comfortable beds. The maids folded our towels in to swans and made flowers and butterflies with the Kleenex and toilet paper! The inn keeper is so kind and helpful, giving us tips on where to eat and where to go while we stayed there. We even got free wine passes to a bunch of places! The breakfast was great, amazing home made granola and lots of pastries and fruit and hard boiled eggs. They even sent us a thank you card and the granola recipe since I had commented on how good it was. We will definitely be back.

We stayed for four nights at the Fern Cottages. We were very pleased with the accommodations. The place is very quiet so that you are not woken too early by other guests. The breakfast is very good. The home made granola is addicting. They make a great cup of coffee. It is so close to downtown that we walked every night to dinner. Just a really nice place to stay.

Very well located, friendly reception, clean rooms, though a little dark. Great breakfast proposal as far as I am concerned, though those expecting scrambled eggs may be disappointed, only hard boiled eggs are served. Great selection of Danish pastries.

Room was not luxurious, but nice and clean. Wood burning fireplace was a nice addition since it got cold at night. Grounds are very pretty, and the patio area is esp. attractive. Breakfast choices were fine, and we enjoyed talking to other guests.

My husband and I decided on Guerneville/Russian River as a weekend get away to celebrate our anniversary. When we got to our cottage, we found a bottle of Korbel champagne on ice with two glasses and a Happy Anniversary card! The cottage was all that we hoped- we had a one bedroom that was perfect for the two of us. Jenny is a great hostess- breakfast was light yet satisfying- homemade granola, yogurt and lots of fresh berries along with hard boiled eggs, several pastries, bagels and toast. We loved the wine passport- the complimentary tastings saved us several dollars as we enjoyed wine tasting at nearby wineries and we even found some new favorites (two cases later...). The weather was not great but had it been we would have loved to explore the area on the complimentary bikes and enjoy our breakfast on the beautiful patio. We'll be back!

The first thing you see when you pull into the Fern Grove is flowers of many varieties growing everywhere. When you get out of your car the fragrance of Star Jasmine and roses invites you in. The dining hall, office, and lounge area are charming and cozy, with rustic yet elegant decor. The cabins are spacious and beautiful down to every detail, floral curtains, brass bed, cozy couch. Modern touches such as flat screen TV with DVD player, mini refrigerator. There are books and games in a bookcase. We want to go back again when we can get away.

We stayed at the Fern Grove Cottages for 3 nights and I couldn't have been happier with the location. The cottages are in the middle of a Redwood forest which made the experience even better. The grounds have been professionally landscaped and the plants and flowers are absolutely beautiful. The free breakfast had plenty to choose from and the fresh fruit was delicious!! Jennifer, the owner, was extremely helpful with wine and dinner suggestions and any questions in general.

The owners of this B&B are without a doubt the most kind and accommodating that we've ever experienced. The cottages are spotlessly clean. The bathroom in our cottage was a little small, but it worked for us and we have no complaints. The grounds are truly beautiful. It's a great place to relax and is located about 1/4 to town so it's an easy walk. If you're heading to the Guernsville area and if we do again, we're staying here.

4.4 on May 02, 2016
The cottages were overall very quaint and rustic. They are a bit older but the price was good for the accommodations. The continental breakfast was really, really good with a wide array of options including a great fruit salad and homemade granola! We wish their fire pit was working when we stayed though - they were doing construction in their garden during our stay unfortunately. We would stay there again :)

This place exceeded my expectations. It looks so unassuming from the road. Once you step inside the common area/lobby (these words don't describe it well), you've entered a cozy, warm and welcoming inn. I cannot give enough praise to Jennifer. She makes you feel like you're at home and a part of her family. Excellent service goes a long way! The homemade granola and fresh fruit was superb - thanks for the recipe Jennifer! It was Valentine's Day weekend so there were nonstop treats, champagne, chocolate covered strawberries and more treats. You can walk to the infamous taco truck in the Safeway parking lot or down the street to the delectable Boon eat & drink. We stayed in a pet friendly cabin (#2) and it had a great layout. It was super clean and comfortable.

Fern Grove is such a wonderful little hideaway. A beautiful little botanical setting nestled in the redwood Forrest. Who could ask for more. Very down to earth nothing pretentious about this delightful B&B at all. A traditional Northern California breakfast, yogurt, fresh fruit, granola and a few other goodies. The kindest most helpful staff I have ever encountered. Downtown Gurnville is a step back in time. Great little food places and a little "hippie" shop complete with tie-dyed shirts by the gentleman who owns the shop and a replica of Jimi Hendrix hat! You just can't go wrong.

And to top it all off they had a delicious free breakfast! We'll definitely be coming back here :) :)

Wooden cabins from the 1920's have great atmosphere and are in a good location in the Russian River Valley for visiting wineries, walking into Guerneville, or even doing the short drive to the coast. Kitchens have everything you need for a doing your own meals but there are also nice restaurants within easy walking distance.

Great place, reasonably priced & just a short walk to restaurants & bars in Guerneville. Breakfast was OK & the place had a little sink & fridge & microwave. One complaint was the mattress, it killed both of us and needed to be replaced.

We picked Fern Grove because it was an affordable property for a quick getaway weekend. We weren't disappointed and the property was as advertised. The service however was exceptional and the management bent over backwards for us. We would definitely consider it for a return short trip.

We have been staying at Fern Grove Cottages for the last six years and have never had anything less than a stellar stay. The location at the end of the main street in Guerneville makes walking to downtown shops and eateries a plus – not to mention Johnson Beach! A must see and to enjoy is the wide variety of Dahlias in the gardens throughout the property. The staff and especially Jennifer are friendly, helpful and all about the comfort of their guests. Our stay was great and we recommend a check in on Thursday so you can enjoy the free pool side mimosa hour. The hosts were great and the breakfast was small but delicious. Please note that the hot tub is actually a Jacuzzi tub in the room, this was my only complaint as I did think that there was an outdoor hot tub.

This is a lovely place with the nicest hosts who are extremely helpful and friendly. The only thing that marred my visit were the many children allowed to run around and scream, unsupervised by their parents. I wish they had been asked to be quieter. I will only come back when school is in.

I treated myself to a few days at Fern Grove Cottages to kesson plan before the school year started. Everyone was very friendly and there is a wonderful garden area where my dog could run. Looking forward to going back with my family for a vacation! No on site restaurant but there is light cold food breakfast served until 10am and plenty of places within walking distance. I would have liked to see non theow away cups and plates or at least ones that are more environmentally friendly (biodegradable).

There wasn't a hot breakfast but it was all we needed and the presentation was great. You are right on the edge of town so it was convenient to walk. We took the bikes for a 2 mile ride to Armstrong Park and had a fantastic day. If you are looking for a 5 star resort this is not the place for you, but if you love homey this is perfect. I would recommend to all my friends.

We went for our anniversary to Fern Grove and we will defiantly be back! Great service, Great breakfast, and Great location! We enjoyed the free movies they had and the pool was a great hit! I think the only thing that was a annoyance was that we got the Jacuzzi tub and there was no shower head or shower to take a shower. Next time we will get a regular room to take showers. Room would have been perfect if we only stayed the one night we used the Jacuzzi tub. We really liked the experience and I have been telling everyone about it! Keep up the good work

The folks at Fern Grove Cottages made sure our 29th anniversary was special. They left a lovely bottle of Korbel on ice for us. The room, as we expected from other reviews is small, but fully met our needs and was very clean and cozy! The breakfast was yummy and helped us start out our day of wine tasting with a good base. We really appreciated the wine passport which saved us 20 to 30 dollars per winery. Lots of dining within walking distance including a mexican food restaurant right next door. We did take out and enjoyed dinner on our lovely deck. We would definitely stay here again.

The large spa tub could hold two, there were quiet decks to sit outside your cabin, the room came equipped with two wine glasses and a corkscrew. There are several vineyards within easy driving distance, 15 minutes to Jenner and the coast, a great spot. No onsite dining but some cabins cd with kitchens and four star restaraunts are close-by

We stayed a few nights at Fern Grove Cottages and loved the location, old world charm, breakfasts, and hospitality. This was our first trip to Gerneville and the hostess gave us a wine map with wineries highlighted that offered free tastings to the guests. What a great value! Very nice, clean, and cozy B&B carefully placed among redwood trees, with lots of lush greens and flowers (even lilac is there!). Take a room with a large Jacuzzi tub and grab a bottle of Korbel Champagne, you won't regret. Free Internet access, Comcast HDTV in the room. Breakfast is ordinary continental, no wows here. There's no dining but downtown Guerneville with plenty of eating options is within 2 minutes walk. You will also get vouchers for free wine tasting in 100+ wineries! Annie at the reception was charming and very helpful.

The cottage was very cute and vrry clean. The fireplace was also a very nice touch. Although small it was still nice and the large trees surrounding the cottages helped keep the noise from the road down. The lo ation was great and was in walking distance to the down town area with many places to eat as well as strwet art and a flea market ( at least when we were there ). The only reason for a 3 star on the room was the bed wasn't very comfortable and was kida hard and boundcy. Otherwise it was an overall nice stay and the staff was great!

Loved our stay here. The innkeeper is just wonderful, full of knowledge of the area, with great winery suggestions. The homemade granola was delicious as was the rest of the breakfast items. I've been coming to the Russian River for years but this was the first time I stayed at Fern Grove. I wish I had done it years ago. I wanted to get away on my own for a couple days and this was perfect! I was immediately made to feel right at home and was thrilled to find I had been upgraded to a beautiful and comfortable one bedroom cottage complete with fireplace and skylights. I read, took walks, relaxed, got renewed in no time at all. If I wanted company, there were always folks in the main building having tea or sitting by the large fireplace. And when I wanted to be alone, I had all the privacy I could want. Now I want to go back and bring friends to share this truly special place and experience.

I stayed here out of season to do a bit of research on the area, so my expectations were different than the usual vacationer. I had a small cottage for one, which was comfy and warm. It would be OK for two, but you wouldn't hang out in the room. Nice little table on the front porch and nice seating in front of the lobby fireplace. Breakfast was very basic and started serving at 8:30 -- even for coffee! Walkable to town (2 blks)
2.8 on January 25, 2015
The rooms were nice, but not spectacular. There was no real dishes in the kitchenette. Some basics would have been nice. There was a bit of too much furniture in the room(night stands didn't fit and hung out into bathroom doorway). The shower/jacuzzi tub was great, but the knobs were extremely difficult to figure out...all and all it was a nice stay for the price

Bedrooms were too small. Bathroom was too noisy. The bathroom noise would wake people up when someone was using it. The kitchen was nice, a bit small. We think we saw mice droppings inside some of the dish's cabinets. There was no toaster in the kitchen. Price was fine. Breakfast was ok. If omelet/eggs is served, it will be much more satisfying. There was a very nice lady over there, who helped us find cool activities in the area. She was awesome.

Service was very friendly. You get an actual key for the rooms. We ate at the taqueria next door for dinner which was fantastic. Very quite during the wee hours. Bed could have been a bit more comfortable but didn't inhibit my sleep at all. We stayed in the single bed spa room. There is no shower so the next day you need to use the spa bath which may be a negative to some people. Didn't stay for the breakfast but there are plenty of diners within walking distance. There is also a Safeway within walking distance too. Would definitely stay here again. Overall 4/5

I stayed 2 nights with family and friends for wine tasting in the area. The wine passport is great and the service is outstanding. Our room had a kitchen with all the basics needed. Living room with gas fireplace is cozy. Bedrooms are on the small side with no space for luggage and barely enough room to walk around the beds. That's the only area lacking. We would stay here again.

Stayed here for a weekend wedding. Most guess stayed across the street and after comparing notes we definitely had the better place. No spiders, a TV, a delicious breakfast and much better price. The owner was very sweet and helpful with a few things we needed. If we make it back to the area we will definitely stay here again.

The rooms are small, but very nice. The entire facility is very clean and well kept. The inn keepers and the staff go out of their way to make your stay very special. I strongly recommend this as a place to stay in the Russian River. It is also within walking distance to the town.

My husband and I left our 2-year-old for the first time to spend a couple of nights away before our next baby arrives in under 2 months. We really enjoyed the sweet and comfortable cottage. The studio cottage was small, but exactly what we needed. The couple's jacuzzi tub really was big enough for my slightly hefty hubby and my 7-month pregnant belly! The grounds are so incredibly sweet, with welcoming lush gardens all around. The overall experience is quaint in the best way. There are some fancier resorts in Guerneville where you can pay much more for very modern and much less cozy accommodations. I am really glad we chose Fern Grove.

Being old, this reminded me of road trips when I was a kid, but in a good way. Clean room, close to everything in Guernville, decent breakfast and very helpful staff. Will stay here again when I'm visiting the area.

We stay here every year as part of a bicycle ride from the Bay Area to Guerneville and back. We think it is the best place in town for a stay. The rooms are very clean and well-furnished ,and the breakfast is great.

Such a sweet place! Tucked away, charming, quiet. Very much enjoyed my stay!

Bungalow rooms and walking distance to town! My wife loved it the moment we drove up... all the landscaping, bungalows and coastal redwood feel said "relaxing vacation" from the start. The breakfast is simple and do-it-yourself... but good, just what I needed. The people were super helpful and friendly. All-in-all a good value and I would be happy to stay there again!

Fern Grove Cottages was great. Small, quiet and relaxing. Love the little porches that each room has with a table and chairs. Unfortunately it rained during our stay so we were not able to sit outside and enjoy some wine but that just means we have to go back when the weather is better. I booked the room with the Jacuzzi tub the only issue is the tub replaces an enclosed shower, They do give you a shower nozzle with a hose to shower in the tub, it makes a huge water mess next time I will just make sure I get a room with a bathroom shower and not the Jacuzzi tub. Food choices in the town of Guerneville are limited but the little taqueria next to the cottages was good. Great place to get away and enjoy the peace and quiet.

Rustic feel with modern conveniences. Breakfast was simple but included enough choices. Staff was very helpful and courteous. We are planning to stay here again.

We have been coming to Ferngrove for years—in fact it is where my now husband proposed to me. We stayed in the butterfly room (#9) and had such a lovely time we decided to come back for our honeymoon. We were not disappointed! The new owners have done a lot with the already adorable Inn. The customer service was excellent; it is walking distance to many great restaurants and quaint country bar scenes. We love Guerneville and have stayed in many other accommodations from camping to vacation rentals and this place is by far our favorite.

My wife and I decided at the last minute to book a labor day weekend getaway. Luckily we were able to get a cottage at Fern Grove for a very reasonable price. Since it was the last room they had, I didn't really have high expectations but was extremely glad we got it. The cottage was a small studio, but since we didn't really hang out there all day, it was perfect for us. The breakfast was continental and was surprisingly good. The pool was salt water and very clean and refreshing, especially since there were a few hot days. Also each cottage has an outdoor sitting area which is perfect for winding down in the cool evenings. Neighbors were very quiet as well! This place was walking distance to downtown Guerneville which made it even better since we didn't have to drive ad search for parking. There is also a Safeway really close by so if you wanted to pick up food or other items you could just walk over. Fern Grove also gave us a wine tasting passport which was good at about 20 or so winerys. Tasting fees are waived at the places in the passport that charge a tasting fee!

Beautiful Site & Location. Will remind you how it was when you were a kid up at the Russian River under the Redwoods and lush foliage. Big pool which is not heated but nice, Our Cottage was #4, which was a ONe Bedroom, with Living Room, Microwave & Frig & Sink in nook off Living room. Bathroom with shower. Bedroom was plenty big for two of us, Living room comfortable and Nice with sky lights and fire place. No phones which in my opinion is great. TV tho with lots of channels. Two nice seating chairs outside on porch with table to sit back under trees and enjoy a nice glass of wine or just sit and relax and enjoy the scenery. Nice Mexican Restaurant right across from Cottages. Free Continental Breakfast which is small but nice. Will definetly come back and enjoy the peacefulness that is Fern Grove Cottages.

We stayed 3 nights at the FGC. Its a cute enough place located unfortunately on a very busy road. Depending on which cabin you get noise would be an issue. The garden is wonderful and adds charm; staff were very accommodating. The cottages are well located for river activities and as a base for exploring the wine country. The town of Guernville was a huge disappointment. Its creepy, lots of low life types hanging in the square, by stores etc. We saw people openly doing drugs on the street. Families with young kids would not want to walk at night. A few good restaurants but more stores for sale and shops selling cheap items. Very very sad place in an otherwise beautiful setting.
4.6 on August 22, 2014
We had a mini family reunion at Fern Grove Cottages and rented 4 of their cabins for a week. The staff and grounds were wonderful and the BBQ/Picnic area was perfect for family meals each night. Very quiet and serene location yet only a block away from Safeway, Ice Cream, and the main river beach in Guerneville. Would definitely stay again!
3.8 on August 20, 2014
In town for a wedding and loved the fact that the ceremony was within walking distance of the cottages. The landscaping was beautiful and the cottages were tucked in the grounds perfectly to give the feeling of being secluded without actually being so. The cottages were very clean, comfortable beds and great location. The bathroom was a nice size but the shower stall and sink were older, not in the best of condition and fairly small. This was the reason for the 3 stars instead of 4 stars. I would stay at Fern Grove Cottages again as overall it was really nice.

OK B&B but I have stayed at much nicer for the same money. The staff was very nice. The rooms were much too small & in bad need of updating. Breakfast was adequate but not outstanding & if you wanted anything prior to 08:30 you were out of luck! This B&B is adequate but not outstanding.

We recently stayed here for a small family reunion, with my family members taking four cabins. We were very happy with the place, which had just changed ownership a couple of weeks prior. The cabins are roomy and rustic, if a bit dark--they could be better lit. The grounds are gorgeous, with beautiful flowers everywhere, and the pool and bbq areas were great. We also took advantage one cool evening of the common room with a large dining table and games. A nice breakfast is served every morning as well. All in all a wonderful place at a good price. I'd recommend staying here if you're looking for a place to stay in Guerneville. Dog-friendly, too :)

My husband and I stayed for three nights to attend a local event. The location was perfect and within walking distance to everything in the town. The pool was large and enjoyable for a swim. Our room was a cozy log cabin. The room was clean, but outdated. The bathroom could use a makeover. The highlight of the stay was the wonderful staff, exhibiting a caring attitude. They made a wonderful breakfast that was healthy, and they made every effort to ensure a great stay.

We go to Guerneville for an annual Summer Solstice party, so we've stayed at many facilities. I booked the most inexpensive room at this resort, and the picture looked okay, but the whole room was in the picture. it was the smallest room I have ever seen, but since we weren't in it much, it was okay. I saw some other rooms, and may book them next year, since the management, help, and food were all wonderful. Everyone at the desk took the time to explain things and make recommendations on wineries and points of interest. The complimentary breakfast was quite good, and you had the option of eating with other guests or taking it to your room. It was an easy walk to downtown, and there is a Mexican restaurant next door.

Fern Grove Cottages is always my destination for rest and relaxation when I want to get away from the hustle and bustle of San Francisco. I, highly, recommend these cute little cottages, nestled amongst the beautiful redwood trees in the Russian River Valley.

My stay here was awesome overall. Our room was very clean and quiet. The rooms have a rustic feel. My only gripe was that I wish the rooms had a ceiling fan to circulate the air, because it got stuffy very fast once we closed the windows. The grounds are very well maintained and beautiful we sat in the garden area for breakfast and relaxed there at night and watched the baby birds. The is bot heated, but they use salt water chlorine instead which feels amazing on your skin. The fresh baked scones and granola at breakfast is yummy. The staff are very friendly and helpful from the moment We arrived to greeting the housekeeping. I really enjoyed my stay. It was the perfect place for my birthday retreat.

We were there for the Monte Rio Triathlon and a little R&R for the rest of the weekend. The children loved the pool which was clean and well maintained. The little kitchen was well equipped and we had dinner in the cottage twice. The homemade Fern Grove granola in the morning was the best and the warm scones were also delicious. I definitively plan to come back. Having the Mexican restaurant, Safeway and ice cream store all within walking distance was quite convenient. Alex from Martinez

I brought my boyfriend here as a surprise for our 1 year anniversary and we had a lovely time. From the moment we drove up to the beautiful grounds, to the minute we departed reluctantly, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Highlights for us included: the yummy homemade scones, charming cottages & magical landscaping, friendly & helpful staff, and abundant amenities & binders full of fun stuff to do in Guernville! We will definitely be recommending to friends/family and returning ourselves!

My husband and I have visited Fern Grove 4 times, including renting the entire property for our wedding in 2013. From the moment you enter the property and see the beautifully kept foliage, you know you are somewhere special. The warmth and hospitality are unmatched. The rooms are nicely appointed, with different themes, from nautical to wine to old school western rustic. Don't expect ultra modern, chic 5 star appointments. That's not what Fern Grove is about. The service is efficient and delivered with a smile, and the breakfast is substantial, yummy, fresh, and a great way to start your day of rafting, hiking, or wine tasting. Margaret and Annie are great hosts, and are willing to spend any amount of time with you discussing the area, especially the great wineries! Margaret is a wealth of knowledge on Russian River wines. We can't wait to go back for our 1 year anniversary.

This is our second trip to Fern Grove Cottages and we absolutely love our time here. The location to downtown is a perfect walk and the locals are very friendly. Mike and Margrett are wonderful hosts and the staff are always helpful and friendly. I came here as a kid every summer in the 60's and 70's and last year my husband surprised me with a trip down memory lane. Our time here is so special that we have decided to make it an annual trip. And, the scones alone are worth coming back for.

The chocolate hearts on the bed was nice but the chocolate was cheap tasting. The cookies at night should have been homemade. Especially for a bed and breakfast place. The room was way to small.
Thank you for your comments, even though we do not understand the comment regarding the quality of the chocolate. It was a well known brand of chocolate and was purchased just a day prior to Valentines Day. We do know that the staff sampled the chocolate and seemed to enjoy it. We agree that homemade cookies are preferable to bought cookies. We serve cookies and sherry most afternoon. Usually the cookies are made from scratch and include lemon and rosemary from our garden. We do not cheat by purchasing ready made dough. On the odd times that we are unable to supply our own cookies, we substitute purchased cookies. We always have homemade items for breakfast including granola, scones, and southern style savory biscuits. We do have various sizes of studios and cottages to suit all budgets. Once again, your comments are appreciated. We strive to provide a pleasant stay at Fern Grove.

Really lovely location. We thought it would be more motel-like but were happy to see that it had more of a B&B feel. Loved the private cottages and lobby amenities. Our fireplace crept a little at night making some weird sounds, but otherwise was a pleasant stay. Morning coffee was decent.

It rained the entire time I stayed, but it didn't matter. I was cozy in my semi- rustic, impeccably clean studio with a charming little gas fired realistic wood burning stove in the woods. Parking was adjacent and the fresh made scones and breakfast assortment were perfect. Charming location and town within walking distance with a variety of small specialty restaurants. Can't wait to go back. No, I am not connected with this establishment. Perfect get a way from San Francisco.

We decide to take a last minute overnight and ended up with a last minute reservation here. The woman who checked us in (the owner, I think) was so sweet, our room was perfect and the location was wonderful. At the end of the evening we walked to the "main strip" and hung out at one of the bars and made our way home safely. A wonderful place to stay for a romantic weekend.
2.6 on January 03, 2014
When I reserved a spa studio, with a private bathroom, I didn't expect a big room, but I did think it would be a bit more luxurious than it was. Basically it is a room that will fit a queen size bed, with a spa-tub in the room. The bathroom is separate, but only contains a sink and toilet (not much room for toiletries), nor is there a table in the room to sit at and drink coffee or eat a snack. Kind of uncomfortable for the money spent. It is, however, right in Guerneville and within walking distance to restaurants and bars. The main house where you can get tea and light pastries in the morning is a nice, but once someone sits at the table, you feel as if you have no place to go. It's pretty much about location.

Found lots of little touches that were appreciated. For example, a wine key and four or five glasses were at our disposal. The gas stove worked well and provided plenty of heat. Everything was clean and in good shape. The shower was a little small but manageable (we were in a one bedroom unit). Management was very nice--we had to leave to go to the hospital at 1am because of an extremely sick child--and we were offered a complimentary upgrade the next time we stay here. I would plan on returning even without the nice gesture. Note, we did not have a chance to have breakfast but this review wouldn't let me leave that category unstarred.

after travelling for seven weeks around the US, this was definitely one of the quirkier places we stayed. The location is fine, just on the edge of town. The room we had was bare bones and parking is first in, best dressed. The owner had a definite touch of basil faulty.....a bit loud and a bit overbearing. The breakfast was served in a nice room near reception and we all got to listen to her personal conversations both days. That aside, a nice enough place. Compared to the rest of our travels, a little expensive and the other lady at reception could not have been more helpful.
Thank you for your comments. It is not acceptable to be party to any conversations from the back office ,especially during breakfast. Sincere apologies for omitting to close the door. Regarding Faulty Towers, well yes, we have heard this before, we are British born. Basil and Sybil of TV fame, certainly left their mark on the role of Innkeepers. We strive to make the quirks a genuine attempt to please our guests. We have had more than a few smiles with others regarding the TV characters. However, we do not aspire to beat our staff or annoy our guests. No, we do not always get it right but we do appreciate the feedback. Thank you for the nice comments regarding our Innkeeper.

Margrett was delightful, helpful, and makes great scones. Breakfast was lovely. Accommodations vary in size; we chose the studio, which is a small room but adequate. We took advantage of the promotional card for free premium wine tastings at various Sonoma County wineries. Looking forward to our next visit.

Stay was about what I expected. Grounds were maintained and cottages were cute. Carpet could be updated as it was the indoor / outdoor material and I didnt want to go barefoot! Shower pressure poor and bath amenities were the discount type and very cheap. Amenities really downgraded the experience. Housekeeping did a good job. Breakfast was not very good at all. Mediocre breakfast pastries and that is all there was so i opted for town the next day. Staff was friendly and knowledgable about the area.
We appreciate all reviews and feedback and act accordingly. We are somewhat concerned with comments regarding the quality of breakfast and bath amenities. We use good quality soaps and shampoos. Breakfast is not a hot breakfast, but it is substantial. Pastries are only part of our breakfast. In addition to purchased pastries, we serve several home made items including scones, biscuits, and granola along with fruit salad, yogurt, bagels and cream cheese. We can only assume that the staff were replenishing the table or had already cleared most of the food away after the closure of breakfast at 10am, if a guest is a bit late, of course we do our best to oblige. The shower problem -when notified, we attend to the problem immediately. We will continue to do our best to provide a good experience for all guests at Fern Grove Cottages.

We had a lovely visit at Fern Grove Cottages. We only stayed 2 nights but the room was clean, sunny and quiet. I loved the deck we had that overlooked the gardens where we had coffee before the continental breakfast was ready - we are early risers. It was an easy walk to town for dinner. After traveling for a bit, it was refreshing to have the option of fresh fruit and yoghurt for breakfast.

I spent four nights at Ferngrove Cottages. I stayed in a lovely one bedroom cottage nestled between several, huge redwood trees flanked by gorgeous elephant ferns.. It had a nice deck in the front, which provided me a beautiful setting in which to enjoy the ample, and delicious, breakfast they set out each morning (they provide trays to take to the cottage so you can eat there). It's very quiet and serene and there are beautiful flowers and ferns and redwoods and even a few spectacular tomato plants. The heated salt-water pool is Fantastic, the grounds are lush and charming. The staff, namely, Annie, were very nice and accomodating. Everything was as clean as a whistle and the bed was very comfortable. It's super close to everything in town, yet just off the beaten path enough to provide a woodsy experience. I would highly recommend this Bed and Breakfast. It's a true "getaway." Thanks, Ferngrove! I had a wonderful trip to Guernville. P.s. WiFi, computer access, a printer, barbecues, lots of info on local attractions and events, too. They provide it all. I wish I could live there. :)

Fern Grove Cottages provided an excellent escape from everyday life. The grounds are beautiful with flowers blooming everywhere. The informal and eclectic decorating in the buildings added to our feeling at ease. The two bedroom cottage we rented had comfortable beds and living room furniture. Being able to sit out on the deck and enjoy the environment was a plus. The continental breakfasts were outstanding. Homemade scones, biscuits and granola were among the many choices. The hosts were gracious and worked to please their guests with sightseeing tips and dinner suggestions.

Such a delightful place to stay, Mike and Margrett make you feel so welcome the whole place is like a home from home. Just to give people an example of their hospitality: We had what we thought was a problem with the shower, immediately Margrett offered us another room which was also a significant upgrade. Later we discovered the shower was fine we hadn’t actually turned it on properly, no worries we were told just stay in the upgrade property at no extra charge. The communal areas are extremely well laid with the gardens kept to an exceptionally high standard, consisting of beautiful foliage and fruit trees. There is a comfortable siting area separated by a little fence where gorgeous tomatoes grow within one of the borders, we know how lovely they taste, as Margrett didn’t mind us picking a couple to go with our lunch. There’s also a heated swimming pool with very comfortable sun beds and tables and chairs dotted around. The clientele at this place are such friendly people and that reflects well on what the proprietors are trying to achieve with this little paradise. There is a large communal dining table for breakfast and believe me with such wonderful guests it’s like having breakfast with your own family. The breakfast consists of various homemade goodies such as scones, cakes and Margretts granola which consisted of her own original ingredients. Well done you Mike and Margrett, you’ve got it so right, in such a wonderful area to stay. Hey and the town folk of Guerneville must be one of the friendliest bunch in California hated leaving, would recommend this part of the world to anyone and this place to bed down for as many nights as you can accommodate.

the overall stay was pleasant. We stayed in cabin 11, it felt forgotten. the décor felt like it had been there for 20 years, not much updated except, the spa tub. it appeared to have had some repairs but didn't quite finish the details of it. Not as spacious or decorated as the picture on the internet. breakfast was good and they were knowledgeable of restaurants and local events. people were nice and helpful. I'm not sure what the other rooms looked like but I wasn't impressed with room 11 for that amount of money. I would stay again if I could see the other rooms first. beautiful flowers and salt water pool!

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon and it was the perfect choice for us. It's located just on the edge of town, so it feels secluded yet it is only a short walk to town restaurants. We wine tasting at the Korbel vineyard, ziplining, and paddle boating. It was quiet, clean, and romantic.

Stayed here 5 days in August, 2013 while visiting relatives. Cottages are quaint, cozy, and very clean. My 91 year old father was with my husband and I, and he enjoyed the privacy and quiet of this resort.

Pleasant surprise from a first-timer. Most people in the cottages had been there before and no wonder. We enjoyed having a living room and kitchenette, with beautiful redwood trees and ferns to gawk at from our windows. The owners bent over backwards making sure everyone was happy. Breakfast is fruit, granola, scones, and muffins, but everything on that list is over-the-top fantastic. Hiking, wine tasting, and running on roads next to the river kept us occupied.

Stayed at Ferngrove for one night as a post wedding R&R. The grounds at Ferngrove are beyond beautiful with the flower gardens and towering redwoods. The owners are delightful and very willing to help with any information you might need. The rooms/suites are suitable, however, slightly dated would be my only complaint. The complimentary breakfast is fairly standard. Will definitely stay here again in the future. Great location with an easy walk in to town and plenty of restaurants close by. Wonderful little spot if you need a night or two or more to relax with plenty of great adventures close by (river, ocean, wineries, etc.),

This cozy cottage was a perfect location, close to the bay area, and super close to beaches, redwoods, rivers and quaint towns. My wife and I enjoyed the comfort of the room, the walking distance to town, and the short drives to nearby attractions. Surely something we would do again!

Had a pleasant stay , comfortable room . Located in town , but set back a touch from road. Beautiful surroundings. Nice common room offers breakfast but could up grade selection and quality of food considering room price. All in all worth the stay. M. M.

Fabulous grounds, good location, pool and BBQ's were a lovely surprise. The decor was funky and fun (Hawaiian touches??) beds are comfortable. Lots of traffic noise which was unexpected since we were at the back of the property .I guess the sound came over the hedges because the cottage was elevated. Dinner at River's End in Jenner was wonderful!

This is a charming inn with cottages, studio rooms, etc. I loved staying within walking distance to Johnson's Beach. Breakfasts were tasty; innkeepers are personable and helpful. It was a wonderful experience.

This was a very nice B&B. Not fancy and some of the furniture was dated, but it was very clean. The staff was super friendly. The amount of space was more than I expected. It was nice to have a separate living room and bedroom. The wrap around deck had great views of the surround redwood trees. The location was a 5 minute walk to downtown Guernville restaurants and bars.

I planned a 3 day get away with my niece, who's a teenager. Found this place which looked nice, walking distance to town. That was as expected. However, no where in the description for the rooms, where there was a spa tub, did it say, there was no shower. The 'shower" was a hand held in the spa tub, which was in the main room. So, although, yes we could bathe, we could not actually "take a shower". Breakfast on Saturday was much more selective than Sunday, which was pretty bare. Not sure I would go back again for the price and amenities. Thanks

Fern Grove Cottages are immaculate and the grounds are beautifully landscaped with bright flowers and well kept gardens. It was picturesque, romantic and cozy with an almost storybook like quality. It was quiet and relaxing with an immaculate pool and barbecue area. The staff is exceptional, attentive to detail and very caring. I have spent a lot of years vacationing at The Russian River and the Fern Grove Cottages are the loveliest in the area. Highly, highly recommended. Thank you again Margaret and staff. Five stars all the way!

I was in Guerneville for a wedding, however the venue was sold out so we opted for Fern Grove Cottages which was just across the road. We flew into Guerneville around 11am, and although check in wasn't until 3, Fern Grove was able to accommodate us and check us into our room. The staff was pleasant, the rooms were clean & the property was very well kept. You definitely feel like you are on vacation at Fern Grove. It is centrally located, just a few minutes from town & beach access. I would definitely recommend this B&B to others. Thanks Fern Grove! :)

Awesome stay in Guerneville! Fern Grove was the perfect place to stay, close to everything yet secluded and quiet! The only negative is the studios don't have showers. This came as a surprise but they have an awesome jacuzzi tub with a sprayer head so we improvised.

I've been staying at many of the places in Guerneville to try them out. This was a pleasant surprise. I like the independent cottages and the little kitchenettes. They were very pleasant. The grounds are very nice. They do serve a breakfast, but i didn't try it i opted for eating in town.

I love Fern Grove and have stayed here several times. Everyone is so warm, welcoming and extremely helpful. The cottages are perfect, clean and comfortable. The breakfast which is included with your stay has fresh fruit, coffee, tea and the best fresh scones in the world. There is a bbq that guests can use and we usually grill our dinner and eat in. Take time to sit by the pool and just relax looking at their lovely gardens.

We recently spent 3 days at Fern Grove Cottages. We had a wonderful stay. We rented the small cottage which is fine for 2 people. The outside surroundings were absolutely beautiful, with all the trees and flowers. Everyone that worked there was very helpful and polite. The breakfast was delicious, homemade scones, biscuits and granola were to die for. They also had fruit, bagels, cereal, etc. We ate breakfast in the main dining room every moring, however, you could take it back to your cottage if you wanted. We were able to meet a lot of nice guests also staying there during breakfast. There was a really nice lady, at the front desk on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, (sorry, I do not remember your name) who help us decide which vineyards to see based on the type of wine we drank. Also she gave us discount coupons and free wine tasting coupons. You could walk to the small town or drive about 10 minutes to the beach, the Russian River was about 2 blocks away. We would recommend Fern Grove Cottages if you are looking for a relaxing stay and great breakfast!!!! Thank you again for making our stay so memorable. Gary and Virginia Powell.

we were visiting my sister in the East Bay and we decided to spend an overnight near wine country - after a day of wine tasting, it was lovely to spend the evening with the gas stove and have a picnic in the cottage. the rooms were small, but cosy. we had the big room, which had a chair in the corner. the kitchen area was convenient and well stocked for a hotel room. we would certainly go back again if our vacation wanders takes back to the area.

We stayed a couple nights in April. The property is an old set of cabins that have been upgraded with modern amenities. We were in a studio cabin with a spa bathtub. It was very clean, comfortable and cozy. The property is comfortably rustic, meaning nothing trendy or pretentious. The grounds are beautifully maintained with colorful landscaping. Our innkeeper Amy was friendly, professional and very helpful not only with the property, but with events and attractions in the area. Her "binders of plenty" listed everything from restaurant menus to places to visit. Breakfast is Continental, but tasty with local bagels and pastries as well as fruit, granola and yogurt. Overall, an excellent place to stay in Gureneville.

This is a such a beautiful and peaceful setting, you hardly know you are right on the edge of town. The owners and staff are some of the most wonderful people and made sure everything about my stay was just how I wanted it. When I needed to extend my stay, they went out of their way to rearrange pending accommodations which included giving another party a pretty decent upgrade. Loved my room, the view and the deck. Am so glad I chose this B&B. Will most definitely return.

Fern Grove Cottages is a wonderful place in the Russian River to get away for the weekend. Close to downtown Guerneville (5 - 10 minute walk) and close to the ocean (20 minute drive), the cottages are really nice. Stayed in cottage #7 (two bedrooms, kitchen, wood-burning fireplace) for the third time. Every trip has just been peaceful and relaxing. Margrett has a wonderful "continental breakfast" each morning with homemade granola, scones, jams, etc. We had a wonderful wine-tasting on Saturday afternoon with red and white wines from a local vineyard that we then visited the next day with a Tasting Passport from Margrett that enabled us to taste for free! I would definitely recommend Fern Grove Cottages as the perfect getaway spot.

Innkeepers Margaret, Mike and Annie were very nice and accommodating. Will definitely be staying here again, very soon.

This is the first time that my husband and I had stayed at the Fern Grove Cottages. The staff was very nice, and made us feel right at home. The lights in our cottage were already on and the fire place had been set so the cottage was nice and warm. The bed was a bit hard for my liking, but that is a personal thing. We really enjoyed ourselves. The continental breakfast was filling, and we sat and talked with another couple while we ate.
3.0 on December 26, 2012
Room decor was dated and bed was way too soft for our comfort. Continental breakfast was tasty, but the best part of stay was visiting with the innkeeper by the fireside. She gave us many suggestions of places to eat and wineries to visit and her knowledge of the area enhanced our stay. Plan on returning in the summer months, but will ask for a room with a firmer bed!

Fern Grove is the most charming place to stay in Guerneville. The owners are really charming people, and the staff made our visit very comfortable. When we arrived, the our room was already heated, and there was tea waiting in the common room. When we came back at night, there were plenty of DVDs and board games to choose from. I would definitely stay here again!

We had stayed at Fern Grove about nine years ago and I remember the experience was generally positive but also that the cottage we stayed in was somewhat outdated and needed fixing up, like the bathroom, which had a beat up floor and an old shower. I was pleasantly surprised this time with comfortable, nicely decorated rooms which included updated flooring and shower. It was such a pleasant experience to sit under a redwood tree while out on the deck enjoying a glass of local wine. The beautiful gardens and large ferns add to a wonderful atmosphere. The innkeeper was extremely helpful, providing us a map and pointing out which roads to follow to find wineries that suited our preferences and making recommendations for a dining experience by the ocean that we thoroughly enjoyed. I can't wait to go again and will always stay at Fern Grove when in the Russian River Valley.

We stayed there for a weekend getaway in early fall and had a great time. The Fall season rate was reasonable. It was not too far from San Francisco and felt secluded enough from the main road of Guerneville to earn its name "Fern Grove". Restaurants were all within a short walking distance. The surrounding redwoods were soothing. The cottage itself was clean and comfortable with a great private porch to relax and read. Can't complain. Great jacuzzi. Didn't care much for the western decor, but that's just me. Enjoyed the very well landscaped property. The flowers and BBQ garden was a great place to eat our meals when it was warm. The entire property is mostly shaded during most of the day. The pool was a good size with a nice sun deck. It was almost too cold to swim, but we caught a two hour window of sun and even sunbathed on the nice deck. We had a great time and would definitely come back again. Don't go telling everyone...

Fern Grove is a very nice place and all employees were kind and helpful. The rooms are much smaller than expected. The breakfast is very crowded. Once people sit at the table, it is very difficult to get to the buffet area and many people were blocking access to the buffet as they waited for specific items to come out. That being said, we did have a good time. They provide two large BBQ's and we were able to prepare a fabulous dinner.

I was very impressed with my stay at Fern Grove Cottages. The people were friendly and knowledgeable. Our self-standing cottage was clean, charming and very comfortable for two people. Our cottage had a TV, a small heater, a tiny shower, a queen size bed, and hangers and a place to hang your clothes. The cottage we were in included a wet bar which consisted of a sink and refrigerator. The grounds were lush with gardens full of flowers, fruit trees, vegetable gardens and surrounded by redwood trees. There is a common area equipped with two grills and a picnic table available for use. Free breakfast was included offering coffee, baked goods, yogurt, granola, fresh fruit, and juice. Places to eat, a grocery store and convenience stores were within walking distance. A boat dock was also nearby. I would highly recommend Fern Grove Cottages to friends and family.

To be clear, these are older cottages in the woods. And I fell in love with them. Smack up in the Redwoods, flowers and greenery abound, very peaceful. Main building where breakfast was served is very cozy. Continental breakfast more "personal" and high quality than you find in hotel breakfasts, though still fruit, assorted breads, jams, cream cheese, and ymmy granola and yogurt. Owner seemd experienced as all she needed to say at breakfast was, "My it's quiet in here" to get the table talking. Easy walk to town, which is 4 blocks long, to an assortment of stores and restaurants. Also a couple miles to beautiful Armstrong Woods (state park) which was a lovely morning walk/run.

We loved everything about our recent 2 night stay! My husband and I came up from Phoenix and stayed in a traditional studio room that was nestled in the woods yet close enough to walk to everything in town including several dinner choices and live must at Main Street which I highly recommend. The river was a short walk from the property where they rent canoes and kayaks. The property is right out of a fairy tale with beautiful wild flowers and tall redwoods surrounding the property. The main house was a perfect gathering spot where we had the best homemade breads and fruit with granola and yogurt for breakfast. After touring the wine county one day we brought a bottle of wine back with us to share and Margrett was so gracious to borrow us some wine glasses to make our stay there complete. This is a perfect location to get to the Armstrong forest for a nice hike and then hit one of the many roads surrounding to go out and do some wine tasting. Margrett showed us so many wine tasting options in the Russian River area that we will need to come back here every year for the rest of my lives (which we plan to do!) to explore them all!

we really liked our stay, the cottages are well equipped and spread in a nice location including even red woods. our little house comprised two bed rooms and a larger living room with fir place and kitchen. A balkony for sitting and eating outside was there as well, where we had our breakfast. The owners are kind and helped us a lot with direction etc. Our late arival was no problem at all. The place is a good starting point to explore the coast, coastal redwoods and all the winaries.

I stayed in three B&B's on this trip and the breakfasts at this one would be at the bottom of the list, in fact, just above the Comfort Inn where I also stayed. Where the others had a sitdown hot meal with pancakes, sausage, eggs, ect., the only hot item here was the fresh bread (which was very good). Otherwise fruit (the same every morning), bagels, pastries, ect. Had to ask every morning for decaf. Not what I expect from a B&B. That being said, the advice about the area and about wine tasting was very good.

We spent four nights in Guerneville at the Fern Grove Cottages. The setting was very nice and we had a nice view from our deck. We had two rooms; a bedroom , living room plus a large bath room with jacuzzi. The rooms were very comfortable and decorated with a cowboy theme complete with a saddle set up in the living room. The complimentary breakfast was minimal, but the bagels, fruit and yogurt were all we needed and were quite satisfactory. I would recommend the Fern Grove cottages and I would stay there again.

The innkeeper was delightful and very informed and helpful for locating things we wanted to see and experience in the Russian River area. We plan to return!

We stayed on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights for Vineman 70.3. We were happy with the room (1BR w/ Fireplace). It was cute and cozy. Ladies - you might want to bring shampoo, conditioner, and body wash as there was only bar soap and a bottle of combo shampoo/conditioner. There was also no iron so my clothes were a bit wrinkly but I could live. Breakfast was amazing...I am still thinking about it. The only negative was that breakfast didn't start until 8:30am, so if you are an early bird you have to wait. It was worth the wait though - the homemade granola was so good and the scones were hot right out of the oven. If you stay during either Vineman race, they will give you a breakfast bag the night before (bagel and pasteries) but only if you are racing. The location was perfect for the race, which starts at Johnson's beach. I would say the walk was less than 1/2 mile away from race start. We will be staying there again next year!

We have stayed at Fern Grove three different times. Every time, the hosts are friendly, helpful, and gracious. There was all new furniture in our cabin on our last visit. The saltwater pool is also a very nice plus. The continental breakfast is very good and the homemade scones delicious. This is a great place to stay for local events or as a base for exploring Sonoma County wine country.

I have stayed here before and was happy to find that things are as good as ever. The room was very clean, the breakfast delicious, and nice and quiet neighbors as well. Parking is easy, and the location is close to everything. Will certainly come back again.

The cottages are modest but charming, the location & grounds are lovely - a gardened redwood idyll close to Russian River recreation and all that central Sonoma wine country offers. The buffet breakfasts are ample and the price is right. But best of all for wine country travelers and foodies is the friendly & knowledgeable proprietor, Margaret Kennett, who can pinpoint your likes and direct you to exactly perfect wineris and restaurants that meet your tastes and also surprises you.

I had driven by Fern Grove Cottages many times and decided to treat myself to a one night getaway. Everything was an fab! From the lovely gardens to the large spotless pool to the sweet and cozy room. The morning breakfast was delicious and the guests at the morning table was delightful!. DO NOT STOP - GO! We went to California from Florida to celebrate our 26th wedding anniversary and after four nights in downtown San Francisco, we wanted a quieter place for our last three nights. Fern Grove Cottages was perfect! The grounds are beautiful and Margaret and her staff were very accomodating. They gave us great recommendations for dinner and the scones were were the best we've ever had. We will definitely be back!!
4.2 on July 10, 2012
The customer service provided by Margaret and her staff were exceptional. She is masterful and charming and a true diplomat. The one bedroom cottage far exceeded our expectations. Separately, we had a mechanical problem (broken front door lock) and that was handled promptly. At checkout, I also noted a "rusty water/pipe" problem with the sink in the kitchenette and that was flagged for follow up. Ferngrove cottages are great value for the money and very dog friendly. We will be back and next time for a much longer stay. Thank you, Margaret, for a delightful first stay in Guerneville.

I have been coming to Ferngrove in Guerneville for almost 10 years. It is always a pleasure to return. I had a free upgrade this visit. The cottages are easy to get to on the main road in Guerneville, next to a convenient taqueria, but the atmosphere is very quiet and adorned with splendid redwoods. I particularly enjoyed the salt water pool; no chlorine, which makes me cough. Friendly guests and staff; excellent scones for breakfast.

Our group of 6 had the most amazing time. We especially like the BBQ area. We shared it with another large group and had so much fun. The owners supply all the charcoal and utensils, and clean out the fire pit and BBQs every day. It is a great atmosphere for family as well as for a romantic getaway. And so central to everywhere. Margaret was also very helpful in pointing us to some amazing wineries!

We stayed a Sunday night. We hadn't been to Guerneville in decades. We chose the Fern Grove Cottages because we could bring our dog. After a meandering drive from the Bay Area (beautiful but tiring) we arrived at this magical oasis, on the edge of the main "strip" in Guerneville. Tall redwoods hugged the cabins, beautiful flowers and shrubs bloomed everywhere, obviously well tended. We checked in, went to our event, and happily returned, to spend the evening on our deck, simply amazed at the majesty of the redwoods, the changing sky, the serenity.

We had a very enjoyable stay at the Cottages last weekend in a Spa Studio. Nice rustic style with the wood paneled walls, the room had all the comforts one needs! Although the weather was not good, we took advantage of the jacuzzi tub in the room and also even swam in the pool, thankfully it's heated! Very nice grounds, the BBQs and fire pit in the garden were quite nice also.

Beautiful, lush grounds around the cabins; great location; delicious breakfasts; friendly people.
4.6 on June 24, 2012
A real gem - will be back! The staff were all super-helpful and the breakfasts to die for. Only a few minutes walk from the centre of Guerneville and beautiful drives to numerous wineries and the coast. The Russian River area is so much better than Napa; wine as good, if not better quality; far less pretentious; far friendlier. We will definitely base ourselves in the Russian River and stay at Fern Grove Cottages next time we want to visit the wine region.

Margrett and Mike were gracious hosts. We stayed there over our daughter's wedding weekend. She really helped smooth our nerves. The gardens and Redwood forest on the property are beautiful. Margritt and Mike have really worked to keep the "old Gurneville" charm alive. The rooms all remain true to the period during which they were built and are excellently cared for. They are a wealth of information if you want to use this as a home base for day trips in the area. Gurneville and Fern Grove are a hidden gem in Sonoma County !

This is a very nice place to stay. Located at the edge of town there is easy access to everything. The grounds are beautiful, lots of flowers, etc. The cottages are very clean and nice inside, The Queen studio is very small so if you require roominess look into an upgrade to a larger room.

It's a delightful place to stay and the breakfast is always fresh, homemade and delicious. It's also an easy walk into the town of Guerneville, which has a number of new restaurants that are really terrific. It's the perfect weekend getaway, especially for fog-weary San Franciscans craving some warmth and sunshine throughout the summer!

We really enjoyed our stay at Fern Grove Cottages. The simple cottage we reserved was clean and comfortable, the location was great, the value was great for the area, and there is a heated pool! We loved the provided breakfast (granola, yogurt, scones, biscuits, pastries, homemade strawberry jam and lemon curd).

My wife and I flew into Oakland the morning of May 11, 2012 and drove through Petaluma to the coast on the beautiful clear spring day. We made our way to Bodega Bay , Jenner and finally into the Redwood trees at Guerneville where we checked into the Fern Grove Cttages at 5 pm. Annie got us settled in and familiarized us with Guerneville relative to walking from our cottage. The next morning we met the owner, Margaret, at breakfast and she provided expert assistance for our quest to explore the Zinfandel wines of the Russian River, Dry Creek and Rockpile growing areas. She also provided a pass for free complimentary wine tasting at several wineries in the area, and this was an unexpected but very pleasant inclusion to our stay at the Fern Grove Cottages. I highly recommend the Fern Grove Cottages as a perfect launching site for wine tasting in the AVA's west of Santa Rosa.

Family weekend, a great time was had by all. Annie at the front desk made us feel very welcome and made the whole family feel very special. The beds could use new pads on them because they wrinkled while sleeping and made it uncomfortable. Thanks for the fun Family weekend.

Cottages are located a short walk to downtown and are themselves basic accommodation. Prices were lower that other places but still pricey being a tourist town. The manager was very gracious and helpful with ideas for touring. The breakfast was delicious and had many nice touches. Extras like the barbeque and the campfire in the garden was also delightful.

Very knowledgable and congenial staff. Comfortable cottage with individual gas stove, microwave, fridge and coffee maker. Continental breakfast was very good although I wish it were available earlier (opens at 8:30). Despite the rainy weather the staff suggested things to do in the area. Free wine tasting at local wineries provided by the inn. Would definitely return.

I was apprehensive about booking a room at a place I had never seen for our honeymoon. I mean the pictures looked nice and the reviews were good but you never know. So i was pleasantly surprised and when we arrived and checked in. The area is beautiful, the cottages we cozy, and the staff were very hospitable. When we went to breakfast the next morning I was surprised to see food that was actually baked fresh that morning. and the cottages are within walking distance from a safeway and many good restaurants. All in all we really enjoyed our honeymoon getaway at Fern Grove Cottages.

Anyone who can make a great cup of coffee for us city folk will be seeing us again.

No clock or phone in the room, but cell phone sufficed. Free wifi advertised, but could not connect. Proprietor said was not working due to usage and they were having upgraded soon. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely consider staying here again. We stayed in a one room cottage.next time we would likely consider a room with a fireplace.

Our cottage was quite small but cute, the gas fireplace kept it very warm. Bed was fine but could be a little firmer, bathroom small but adequate. The breakfast was quite good, continental but decent selection and quality. Service was very good. Good location if you want to be close to town. I would stay here again.

A group of friends and I attended the Winter Wineroad. My friend suggested this place after she found it on an internet search. It had high ratings and great value. Chain hotels near the city were $300 plus. We were able to stay in a studio with spa tub for less than $200. Our studio had a deck and nautical theme. It was very cute, very clean and had everything we needed...including flat screen TV (the NFL playoffs were on :P). The inn owner was very nice. At breakfast, in the lobby, she made sure we were warm enough. Breakfast was exactly what we were hoping for, warm scones and other pastries. They also had delicious vanilla yogurt with granola. My only complaint would be that there was no stand up shower. You had to use a hand held, shower nozzle in the spa tube to bathe. Note: my friend had a one bedroom place and she had a shower so I think this complaint only applies to studios.

Stayed in cabin seven and enjoyed an evening around the fireplace. Very quaint cabin with two bedrooms. Only thing to be prepared for is that wood is not provided. Bought it from a guy selling wood out of his pickup truck at the Safeway. The provided breakfast is mostly breads and fruit, but all well-prepared, especially the amazing scones. Get them hot!
3.8 on November 07, 2011
The studio suites were smaller than expected; the spa tub adjoins the bedroom and that is the only option for bathing, there is no shower in the bathroom. Except for that one small detail, our stay was wonderful, and the breakfast each day was yummy.

Fern Grove is a lovely place - Very charming and close to town which was nice The cabins are clean though a bit sparse on furniture - Beds are comfortable and we really enjoyed the fireplace. The continental breakfast was OK but very oridinary. Fruit salad, bagels and a few pastries . but they had great Coffee! It was a bit on the pricey side at 209 per night with taxes and fees

We loved it here! We stayed in earlu October and it was chilly so we didn't get to use the pool but these are definitely the perfect little rustic cabins. You are walking distance to town, located 4 miles from Armstrong State Park and only 14 miles to the coast. The staff is so nice and helpful. Our heater wasn't working the first night and they had it fixed right away. We will for sure be back!!

Fern Grove Cottages were very convenient for our trip between Russian River and Sonoma. Lovely landscaping and great value for money accomodation. Buffet breakfast excellent but it was the friendly staff that really score highly. We were warmly greeted on arrival. Check out and advice on visiting Sonoma where the stars are earned. Margarett ( I presume) gave us exceptional advice and kind 'introductions' to great Wineries. The 'personnal' introduction was very much appreciated by ourselves and one specific winery - that's what joined up visitor care is about!

The cottage we had at Fern Grove was all that we needed. However the bedrooms were VERY small and there was no place for suitcases, so we had to place ours in the den area. For 3 folks, this was a bit tight. The kitchenette had all the basics, and a good sized kitchen table. We were not able to get the heat stove to come on in the evenings, but the bedrooms had individual heaters so we just used those. The setting and location of the cottages is ideal. Restaurants are within walking distance. The breakfast includes wonderful homemade granola and scones, which are quite yummy. I would stay there again, but would choose a larger cottage if I had 3 people.

The cottage was very well-presented and much bigger than I expected. The grounds were strikingly well-tended - the immaculate layout of the plant and flower beds really makes the place feel tranquil and secluded. The property, both inside and out, were immaculate/flawlessly maintained. The numerous flower gardens added a warm and cozy environment. The owners were very friendly and helpful in recommending sites/wineries to visit. A very quaint touch is that the owners provide trays to take your continental breakfast back to your cottage (a great service for those with children), which can be necessary because of the limited seating inside the dinning area.

This was out 2nd time staying here and we've enjoyed it very much both times and will return again. The grounds are emaculately groomed with flowers and ferns everywhere - just beautiful. We stayed in a room this time with a spa tub - at first we were disappointed we also did not have a shower however we soon discovered the relaxed and slow pace of the tub so we defiantely looked forward to our morning spa/baths. The breakfast is good but by the third morning I almost wished we went out it's the same every morning. The bed was comfy and the room good sized. The main drawback is we were attached to the room next door and if they used the toilet at night you could here it and the running water in the sink. Another huge plus is you can walk easily into town for shopping/ lunch/dinner and the staff was fantastic. Another plus is we used the BBQ area this time for the birthday party along with the pool. The pool is good sized and they provide plenty of towels for use.

This is a beautiful and well maintained property. There are gorgeous flowers everywhere. I think I would have enjoyed it more if we had stayed longer. I really like to swim on my vacations and the pool closed early in the evening- and was not open in the AM ( between 7 and 8:30) Since the front desk is closed between 7pm and 8:30 AM I would assume the pool is not open then either even though it says "open during daylight hours". No laps for me. The room was spotless and had wireless internet. No real reason to upgrade to a porch( extra $40 a night)- I had visions of a porch facing nature, not the parking lot even though it is a flowering parking lot. We did not use the refrigerator . It would have been nice to have tea in the room as well as coffee and towels that were a bit nicer. The breakfast was outstanding with homemade scones and fresh fruit salad. The people at the desk were accommodating and friendly.

We stayed in the room with the fireplace and queen size bed. Lovely grounds and room. Lots of nice little details in the room like games and books. The lady at the desk when we checked in was sweet and very informative. The breakfast was yummy. The only issue we had was parking. We have a larger truck so maneuvering through the grounds was a bit tricky. Also when we returned in the evening the few parking spaces in front of our cottage where all taken. Overall I would defiantly stay here again.

We had our own private deck with table and chairs. We ate our breakfast out there and even enjoyed some star watching. The breakfast is wonderful, not quite a buffet but better than any "Free" or "continental" breakfast you'd get at other places. The owner, Margaret, gave us great tips for wine tasting. Great value!

Stayed for a week in early July. Had a cabin that slept 4, surrounded by the redwoods. It was on the small side, but adequate, cozy, like you would expect a summer cabin to be. Nice decks with beautiful redwoods surrounding them. Gorgeous gardens with exquisite roses and other perennials. Butterflies everywhere! Breakfasts were great, homemade items every day. Innkeepers very friendly and helpful. A lovely heated pool but was a little too cold for me to try during our stay.

Booked at last minute to getaway on the 4th of July. Beautiful surroundings, peaceful/tranquil in a lush garden setting. All the staff that I encountered were friendly, helpful and genuine. Deluxe continental was delicious with mouth-watering scones, cinnamon rolls, pastries; fresh cut fruit with yogurt and granola; bagels/english muffins with assorted spreads; fresh brewed coffee. Trays made it possible to enjoy breakfast at my cabin deck or in bbq picnic area. Only minor inconveniences were spotty wi-fi access(which I was told was being assessed and corrected) and short supply of hot water for shower.

We were in a 1 bedroom with a whirlpool. It was a cute place but it looked a smelled a little too much like my grandmothers house. However, we knew this before we booked our reservation from looking at pictures. We were surprised that we did not have a shower in our bathroom. We made do with the whirlpool. Breakfast was fantastic. I only wish there were some hard boiled eggs or another non-dairy protein source. It seemed to attract an assortment of people. Retired folk, families (young and not-so young), young couples. If you stay here, you should really get a meal at Boon Restaurant. It is amazing.

We stayed in a 1-BR with a gas log stove and spa tub. The cottage was enormous--king-sized bed, comfy loveseat, comfy but slightly noisy rocking chair. The tub easily fit two adults, and we never ran out of hot water. Breakfast was absolutely delicious--the scones are every bit as good as everyone else says, and the granola was also terrific. Also terrific were the people--they offered wonderful advice, and every place (winery, restaurant) we went to that we mentioned Fern Grove Cottages, the response was always warm and friendly--everyone knows these folks in the Guerneville/Russian River area, and likes them.

Great place to launch into wine tasting country. The other bonus is the beauty of the tall red woods and the proximity to the beautiful Pacific coast.

The cottage far exceeded my expectations. It was clean, attractive, homey, cozy.. we were there for a rainy weekend, so we spent a lot of time inside. My only complaint, and it's pretty minor, is that the couch is very uncomfortable, and is the only place to sit if you want to watch tv or movies, especially for two people. I would either replace the couch or put a tv in the bedroom. Other than that, we loved it, and I'd go back in a heartbeat!

Lovely place, great gardens. For us, the bed was small. Wish the dog rules (can never be left alone in the room etc. ) had been given ahead of time though.

The rating system for bedandbreakfast.com seems odd to me -- certainly Fern Grove Cottages "met my expectations" (or better), a middle rating, but I did quite a bit of research before making my reservations there, so my expectations were extremely high. The whole "expectations" line of thinking for BandB ratings just doesn't work since everybody has different thoughts about what it is reasonable to expect. That said, and reflecting back on my stay at Fern Grove after a few weeks, I would have to rate my stay at somewhere between 4 1/2 -- 5 stars. I expected, and got, a pleasant, totally relaxing refuge from the world, among the tall trees. No monkey business, no noise, no creepy forced interaction among the other guests -- my cottage shared no common wall with any other. Wonderful! The staff was totally cool about my small dog. Oh, and the continental breakfast was perfect -- lots of good and different things to eat and drink. I thought long and hard about whether I had anything to complain about, and the only thing I could come up with was that the toilet seat must have been installed by a lady plumber, because it refused to stay up by itself while I (ahem) peed. Had to hold it up, which is damn difficult while your hands are otherwise occupied. Trust me, this is not a small problem! Oh, and the decor in my cottage might have been a little over-the-top 70s. But really, I loved this place, and would gladly return at the next opportunity!

My ol'lady and I stayed here on a recent coastal trek. Grounds are immaculate. Cottages are very nice. Great location. I would not think twice about staying there again. I would highly recommend Fern Grove.

My husband and I stayed in their smallest room option, a studio. It was incredibly clean, and the staff was wonderful. Breakfast was great (granola, fresh fruit, yogurt, and baked goods such as bagels, english muffins, danishes, scones etc). The grounds of Fern Grove are beautiful with fresh flowers and redwoods throughout and surrounding the rooms. I'm pregnant so we weren't in the area to do wine tasting, but we spoke to another couple who did - TONS of places in the area. Overall, great value!

Our room was upgraded for free and we were very happy with it. Location is beautiful and the owner is very friendly. We have told our friends about how nice is was there.

The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Location was great- in the redwoods and close to both the Sonoma coast and wine country. The 1br fireplace cottages are cute and cozy with everything you need. The breakfast spread was very nice. My highlights were the homemade granola and the coffee!

Overall...We had a great stay...we would highly recommend! Conviniently located near a grocery store ..local restaurants and fun places to visit...everything you need near by.

Cute place and not a bad breakfast - fruit, breads, coffee and juice. Easy in and out.

Great location for Russian River wine tasting and enough space to relax with a glass of wine by the fire. Nice breakfast service in the morning--even fresh baked scones. Reception gave great dinner restaurant recommendation in Guerneville. It's not luxurious, but it's quite adequate.

We have stayed here several times. The best part is the hosts knowledge of local wineries. She listens to what we want and then steers us to the right places.

The Fern Grove Cottages innkeepers were helpful with our slightly complicated sleeping arrangements. They made great dining and winery suggestions for our stay as well. Location made walking to shops and restaurants very easy. The setting among big redwood trees is magical.

My husband and I booked a night in the Spa Studio purely for the 2 person hottub. When we got to room we found that the hot tub was bigger than expected, which was especially nice because my husband is 6'4" and I am 7 1/2 months pregnant. The room was very cozy and we enjoyed our romantic getaway. We will be back, hopefully for longer next time.

Stayed for two nights with my wife. Enjoyed it. Staff is very friendly. Room had personal patio where we sat and had wine. Surroundings are very natural and peaceful. My review seems like an advertisement but can't help, place is nice :)

We were return guests, and had a glitch in our reservations, but Margaret (owner) stepped up and graciously made accomodations for us and our pooch. Good value for the price - like staying at your Grandmother's summer place.

Margrett, the innkeeper, was very friendly and helpful, and allowed me to check in a couple of hours early when I was passing through town on my way to the coast for the afternoon. My cabin was cozy and very comfortable...I liked it the minute I walked in the door! The resort was in a peaceful setting, yet only a few blocks' walk to the center of town. The resort had a lot of good info available on attractions, restaurants, and wineries in the surrounding area. A great spot!
4.8 on February 02, 2011
We rented a lovely 1 bedroom cottage with gas stove and spa tub. It was splendid! The innkeepers were very welcoming and knowledgable about events and wineries in the area. Our tv had an issue that was promptly addressed with a sense of humor. The breakfast was simple but delicious, especially the granola. We will definately return for many future getaways!
4.6 on January 22, 2011
The room was clean and nice. The bed was a little harder than we like, but we slept well. We had the hot tub room and the price was very good for that benefit. However, there was no separate shower. There was a hand held shower head by not enough water pressure to really do any good. The Inn had videos tenants could borrow if you wanted to watch a movie, and there was a good selection. We stayed two nights. Restaurants in town seem to close down early because we had a tough time the second night finding a different place to eat. The first night was good, had dinner at The Garden Grill. I definitely recommend them. We would stay here again. It's quiet and quite beautiful. The owners are very nice. The breakfast was good. Continental; muffins, bagels w/different flavors cream cheese, fresh fruit, cereal, oatmeal, coffee, juice, fresh baked banana nut bread etc. Very yummy!

Fern Grove is a wonderful place to stay with spectacular hospitality, great cottages, and at a great price. The cottages are adorable, afordable and in a lovely location in Guerneville. But, what really makes Fern Grove stand out is that Margaret (the owner) is a gracious host with a wealth of information on Sonoma County vineyards and wineries. Her love for hospitality really shines. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
4.6 on January 11, 2011
Fern Grove is our favorite spot to stay in the Russian River area, hands down. The couple who own the place couldn't be more helpful, accomodating and ready to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The rooms are intimate and warm. We love the hot tub cottages!

I stayed 2 nights at Fern Grove cottages and thoroughly enjoyed my visit. Accomodations were perfect, clean and cozy. The grounds are well maintained and peaceful, providing for a quiet and pleasant atmosphere. Breakfast was delicious, providing a full array of tempting treats, such as home made scones and granola, fresh pastries and fruit, coffee, juice and other assorted delectibles. Maragaret is extremely informative and provides friendly conversation as well as good advice for any local activities and points of interest worth checking out. The assistant inkeeper was also very nice and equally informative and pleasant. If you're looking for genuine hospitality, comfortable rooms, beautiful grounds and excellent location, Fern Grove Cottages is the perfect retreat.
4.6 on January 05, 2011
Aside from a slightly-annoying carbon monoxide alarm light blinking every five minutes, the bedroom was comfortable and relaxing. I wish the fireplace stayed on a little longer between its breaks, but since it was gas-powered it's probably better for the environment that it doesn't stay on 24/7. The staff were friendly and accommodating. If you need anything, just ask at the front desk. The rooms were priced appropriately, and were not too expensive. The homemade scones were delicious.
3.6 on January 02, 2011
The cottages are nothing fancy - I think they're modifed doublewides, but they're comfortable, with more personality than a motel. The breakfast was great, with homemade scones, granola and lots of choices. The woman who runs it is very nice, and took the time to recommend things to do based on our interests. A great deal for the area!

Sherry in the evening and continential breakfast in the morning.....everything is just...warm. The area in generalis beautiful any time of the year. Can't wait to go again!!

Right from the down-home gracious reception from Margaret, this place was a delight. The cabins, spread in a picture-perfect way through the beautiful Redwoods, are sparkly clean inside and out. The whole place shows the love and attention put into every phase of it. I arrived late, and this is the first time I've ever had a late arrival and found the lights on and the room nicely heated when I got there. The breakfast, an over-the-top spread of home-made pastries, granola, fresh fruit, yogurt, breads, coffee, teas and more, is presented to guests in a beautiful dining room. You can sit at the nicely-set antique table or in one of the comfy chairs around the fireplace. The morning paper is there for you, as well. Also in the dining room is a computer with printer for guests. A nice touch, indeed. And no, I didn't get paid to write this review and I do not know the owners, other than Margaret whom I met on this visit. Five Stars!

We spent 4 nights at Fern Grove arriving on Thanksgiving evening. The gentleman working the desk that evening was very friendly and helpful and gave us a great recommendation for dinner that night. We had the privilege of speaking with Margaret every morning and she would recommend an itinerary for our wine tasting day. Her recommendations were always spot on and she seemed eager to help. The continental breakfast is great with the granola and scones being the highlight. Admittedly the room we chose, the smallest, was quite small for two people. That said, it was clean. The bed was comfortable. The service was fantastic. And we didn't come here to stay inside anyway. We would definitely stay here again.

I very much enjoyed the Inn Keepers at Fern Grove Cottages. They were very helpful with suggestions for where to visit and where to dine in the area. However, for me, I found the mattress very firm and I slept poorly. Also, they promote a "European" style breakfast that is merely cereal, sweets, bagels, and fruit. Not what I've encountered in Europe. I recommend this place with the caveat that, if you don't like very firm mattresses and if you expect a true European style breakfast, you may be a bit disappointed.

We stayed with two small children and had the lovely hot tub cottage which everybody loved- great since it was raining a lot during our stay. my favorite thing was that we could take that awesome breakfast up to our cottage and eat there. and the porch was really beautiful. wish I could have stayed longer.

Fern Grove Cottages is a perfect Getaway. We loved the breakfast featuring delicious homemade granola. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Tea, cookies and creamed sherry was provided in the cozy main building in the afternoons... a real treat. The cottages are cute and well maintained. The only thing we would do differently next time is to upgrade to the next price category. We went for the least expensive cottage which was tiny and had a shared inside door with the unit next to us impeding on our privacy. Aside from that: Everything was GREAT!

My wife, Alice, and I spent a week at Fern Grove - celebrating our 31st Anniversary. Margaret was an outstanding, informed hostess and met us every morning at breakfast with a smile and recommendations for visits to wineries and restaurants - much appreciated. The bottle of champagne on our anniversary was a touch of class, and the Saturday Cheese & Wine Tasting and breakfasts were something to be remembered (ask for the scone recipe). Other guests staying there were friendly and willing to engage in a morning or evening conversation. We will definitely celebrate a future anniversary at Fern Grove.

The studio room was quite small. The service was excellent. Room was very clean and well maintain. Breakfast was closesr to a Continental breakfast than to a real breakfast. What they offer for brekfast was high quality but there was no much choices.

The rooms were very cute and have a rustic cabin feel. We shared a cabin for four and paid about $55 per person, per night-what a deal!!! Breakfast of pastries, yogurt/granola, bagels, fruit, and coffee was included. I loved the option of having a kitchen to prepare meals. The service was outstanding, the front desk was exceptionally helpful. We went for a Wine Road event and they had computer access and a printer in the lobby so we could print out maps, something we had neglected to do before we left. I would definitely recommend this place!

Visited the Fern Grove Cottages for two nights and had a pleasant stay. We had been there about 12 years ago and it was a bit disheveled with leaking toilets. But this trip was much better, the property was well-kept, cabins were brightly painted and the grounds very nicely maintained. The 2 bedroom cabin was nice although a bit dated in decor and the bedrooms were sort of cramped with the beds taking up most of the space. Bathroom was clean but also dated The innkeepers were friendly and helpful. Overall a nice experience that I would recommend to friends

My friend and I had the best weekend staying at Fern Grove Cottages. The 2 bedroom cottage we stayed in was very cute and "homey", and the beds were very comfortable. The breakfast was delicious. Margrett made the best scones and granola we have ever tasted. Margrett also recommended some wineries for us to visit. She made our stay extra special and I will definately stay there again.

Blooming English gardens, beautifully painted little cabins with inviting front porches. Rustic, and we like that, especially at the Russian River. Comfy bed. We appreciated the TV and great wi-fi. Desk service exceptional for helpfulness and good ideas. Enjoyed breakfast meeting other guests. Nice Mexican restaurant next door. Perfect location. Would like softer pillows.

This was our 2nd stay and we love the private garden cottage setting. Rooms are a little aged but everything you need is there. Margaret, the owner is so charming, attentive, and nice you feel like you are her personal guest. The breakfast is wonderful and filling. Town is only walking distance and you have a great Mexican restaurant next door. You can shop all day, take a 15 min drive to the ocean, or visit the lovely Armstrong State Park. You can’t go worn here.

We stayed for two nights. The property itself is very attractive and the cottage was large and comfortable (the spacious cottage is the basis of my 'exceeded expectations' rating for the 'room'). The price seemed reasonable based on the quality and location but other than the beautiful grounds and the large cottage, there was nothing which I could say 'exceeded' expectations.

Beautiful gardens welcomed us. We had a spectacular view from our balcony table. So cozy, tucked into a hillside, a mixture of modern and quaint styles. Very accomodating innkeepers. Just what we were looking for in a getaway. We took the golf package and LOVED the Northwood golf course, all redwoods.

We had a lovely visit to one of the studio cottages for our 30th. We enjoyed the jetted garden tub immensely, but the rest of the room was a bit on the small side and it would have been nice to have a fridge. I think next time we might choose the one-bedroom cottage.

Can't go wrong with this place. The room we had was cute and cozy (touch small, but we went for the cheapest spa studio) and perfect for our romantic getaway. We loved the concierge and the couple who own the place, and really enjoyed their hospitality. Also ... scones at breakfast? Delicious! My girlfriend and I will come back in the future.

A wonderful little two day getaway place. I picked a cabin that allowed me to bring my dog and you never would have known that this cabin had ever had pets in it before! It was spotless and there wasn't any pet hair. The attendants at the front desk were very, very helpful. Great customer service. This is definitely someplace that I'd recommend and would love to visit again!

We rented the 2 bedroom cottage, which had so much atmosphere yet was clean and tidy with a kitchen, fridge, etc. In the evening free tea and sherry were laid out in the common room. Breakfast is provided and was excellent value. While Margaret's scones are very good, the home made muesli with fruit and yogurt was superb. The place is also right on the edge of the village, so one can walk to clubs, pubs, etc. -- adding to the atmosphere. The landscaping is also done with tender care - a very British attribute (in the best sense of the word) that applies to the whole place.

Our early summer weekend gettaway could not have been more pleasant, with the tone being set by the atmosphere at Fern Grove Cottages nestled amonst the redwoods. The staff and owners were most helpful with local sightseeing information and the serving of an outstanding continental breakfast in a warm family atmosphere. Our room was clean, well-kept, and pleasantly decorated. Following trips to the nearby coast and wineries, it was so peaceful to relax on the patio sampling that afternoon's purchase, afterward hightlighted by a bright display of stars overhead---so many stars that we in the city had forgotten still exist. Thanks to the innkeepers at Fern Grove Cottages---what a nice touch! Jim & Jan
