We had a great time at J Patrick House. Linda & Cheryl were very helpful and entertaining. We got there later than we wanted to, but they made sure we were able to easily find our room. We enjoyed the brief "treasure hunt". The room we stayed on is very cozy and clean. We loved the fireplace. And the breakfast, did I say they were heavenly, well it was. Since it's our first time in Cambria, they provided us with helpful and detailed information where to go and what sites to see. They even made dinner reservations for us at Madeline's which was also delightful. The wine & cheese hour was great, and the cookies and milk every night just puts icing on the cake. Thank you again Linda & Cheryl. We will definitely be back. ~ Jenny & Christal

New on premises owners very responsive to any need. Friendly, family like atmosphere. Excellent food. Gracious hosting. Could NOT be better! We came for our 45th wedding anniversary and owners acknowledged and prepared for us accordingly. This is second stay for us, but 1st under new ownership. NO disappointments. Jim & Valerie Sabalow

We fulfilled a delayed desire to stay at the J. Patrick House in Cambria, CA. Due a death in the family, we were unable to fulfill our earlier reservation. Linda and Cheryl, the new owners, have knocked themselves out making the J. Patrick House fresh and beautiful. Linda could not have been more accommodation to our needs. We also enjoyed the Scarecrow festival in Cambria that occurs in October. What lovely memories.

I felt like a princess! Our hostess Cheryl was gracious and fun, the rooms were lovely and comfortable, and the food was delicious. We had wine and appetizers at 5:30, and milk and homemade cookies before bed. Every little detail was perfect. Highly recommended!

This was our first time in a B & B and we were pleasantly surprised. The staff was most hospitable and accommodating in every way. The little touches were so nice. The food was excellent and beautifully presented with little condiments for each course which were delicious.

I want to bottle Linda and Cheryl's energy. When we arrived they had only been open as the new innkeepers for 8 weeks and had completed all their renovations in only 10 days! I also want their contractor. What a charming place they have created in this peaceful environment that seems way more secluded than it is. Cheryl had milk and cookies in the common area every evening before we settled in and coffee early each morning before breakfast. Speaking of breakfast - totally delish! A perfect beginning to every day. Cheryl made us all feel so welcome and pampered. We are looking forward to a return trip.

I have stayed here over many years and looked forward to meeting the new owners, Linda and Leslie. At the time of my stay, they were in the midst of pretty extensive refurbishing and they called me ahead to suggest I stay somewhere else. I though it might be fun to see what they were up to and went ahead and stayed with them anyway. They graciously declined to charge me and I had a delightful stay in a lovely updated room. They are making a real commitment to upgrade the rooms and common areas and it's going to look great. In addition I got a chance to sit and get to know them and learn of their plans. In the morning a terrific breakfast was brought to my room (no floor in dining porch yet!). This may have been my most unusual B&B stay, with all the contractors milling about and the wet paint, but it was one of my favorites of all time. I look forward to my next stay, to see the final product and catch up with Linda and Leslie. J. Patrick House looks to have a great future. Jim Cuthbertson, El Cerrito, California

We spent two days at this delightful B & B. Cheryl was a great hostess, always concerned with our well being. We had a comfortable room and the cookies and milk provided each evening were a great, unexpected, treat. J. Patrick House is only about 7 miles from Hearst Castle and many seaside vistas. The town of Cambria offers many interesting places to eat and shop. If you are looking for a quaint place to stay, this is it. Bob & Sherrie, Sun Lakes, AZ

Planning the long Labor Day Weekend late and visiting a small town I had not seen for 20 years as well as introducing my girlfriend to her first B&B experience, I was definitely a bit nervous. Yet, from the minute we arrived we were so incredibly well taken care of. Pat shared with us all Cambria and surroundings have to offer, and there is plenty to do, amaziing for such a cute little town. Cheryl and Linda, new owners for 5 weeks, were very accommodating. It was such a treat to meet them and other guests during the wine and cheese reception in the afternoon. Dinner plans were exchanged as well as the day's experiences reviewed. Our room, Tipperary, was on the ground floor, had a beautiful 4-poster bed and fireplace, and was close to a little sitting area where coffee was available at 7 in the morning, an hour before breakfast. Speaking of breakfast, well, one could say it was more like brunch. Healthy fruit salads followed by an incredible warm dish, Cheryl was very creative with her preparations. We also enjoyed the porch area in the evening for a final nightcap. Yes, the quiet rooms are old but definitely have their charm. When we left on Monday, the Inn was closing for about 10 days. As many others have written here, the passion of Cheryl and Linda will soon be reflected in upgrading this lovely place. I am sure the character of this lovely place will not get lost. We cannot wait to pay another visit to the Patrick House and would highly recommended to anyone visiting Cambria. Dieter & Kenya (September 2014) Stayed September 2014, traveled as a couple

Our stay at the J Patrick was delightful. The new owners are motivated to please: excellent food, helpful recommendations, lovely happy hour. One of their upgrades was to provide wifi! Also, I accidentally left new earrings behind, so I texted to see if they might have been found, and the earrings arrived home before we did!

Our time at the j Patrick house was unforgettable! The grounds were gorgeous, the room was cozy (complete with an in-room fireplace!) and the management was lovely. We arrived to a bottle of chilled champagne, gourmet cake, and other various treats! The bed was comfortable and big, we got great sleep. We enjoyed two delicious homemade breakfasts, both of which arrived promptly after we sat down. The owner was an amazing person, full of kindness, warmth and a welcoming spirit. I loved chatting with her and sharing wine and homemade appetizers in the evening. All in all, I will probably never stay anywhere else in cambria besides the j. Patrick house ever again! It was once of the best vacations of my life!! Definitely would recommend!

I really enjoyed my stay at the J Patrick house! The new owner, Linda Ennen was an amazing hostess, provided a very high level of customer service and she made sure that my stay was everything that I had expected! Not only was there a very fresh, hot breakfast, but also a lovely wine & nibbles hour (and they made my dinner reservations for me as well), and warm cookies left out for the guests for their return back to the Inn after dinner. They provided all kinds of information on things to do in the area and I had a great time antiquing the two large shops there. I would definitely stay there again and would refer Linda's J Patrick House B&B Inn to all my friends! I'm looking forward to going back for the scariest scare-crow contest in town, the Halloween week-end and the Xmas festival they have on Burton street (where the Inn is located) the whole month of December. And they now have WI-FI on the premises. Can't wait to see "Linda's touch" on the decorating changes coming on my next visit..

Let's get the negatives out of the way ... there were none! The room was quiet, clean and well maintained; the area is inviting and the staff and owner are wonderful! The evening wine and cheese, chocolate chip cookies at night, the fireplace in the room and the full breakfast all add to the homeyness we experienced. The morning breakfasts were all delicious ... plenty of food ... and, true to the ad, we didn't need any lunch until the middle of the afternoon. Living in Hawaii, it's difficult to measure up to that experience, but, because of the J Patrick House, we will return! Aloha! Jeff and Beth

My wife and I have spent almost every wedding anniversary with JPH except one year. In those 10 years, I have always enjoyed John, Anne and their staff, they really make the stay awesome. If you love to sit for hours and hear engaging storytellers, John ranks with the beatific them. And his commitment to his patrons is easily described as "like a family", as if you were long time friends staying at his personal residence. The rooms are nice, clean and comfortable. Can't complain. Easy access to upper Cambria downtown and the beautiful gardens of the Cambria nursery across the street.

We were very pleased with our stay. The bathroom needed updating but the room was comfortable and quiet. The breakfast was delicious cooked by one of the owners. The chocolate chip cookies were so good and so was the wine and cheese hour in the evening. We felt relaxed as soon as we pulled into the lot. We will definitely return.

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at The J Patrick House. We found them to be very accommodating, and appreciated the extra effort they take to serve their guests. It was the perfect spot to stop for a night on our way from LA to San Francisco. It is near a lot of beautiful coastline, and a short drive to Big Sur. I definitely recommend.

I have stayed here before and enjoy the location and peace and quiet. The breakfast is always good and the main course changes daily. I was disappointed that John, the owner and fireman, was not there to greet us and prepare our breakfast. That is the main reason I returned to this particular B and B. I did ask for two feather pillows and two foam pillows, but they were not able to accommodate this request. I'm not sure they knew what I was asking for. This seems to be a common problem in B and B's .....limited pillow availability and type. Also, tea was not available in the evenings. All in all we were pleased and had a good night's sleep and a hearty breakfast.

When we first checked into our room and found out there was no TV in the room, my husband and we were surprised, but did not miss it one bit. It was absolutely one of the best relaxing vacation's we have ever had. Our room was comfortable and the service was exceptional. We loved the wine and hors d'oeuvres hour every evening and we got to visit with the other guests. Every evening there would be warm freshly baked delicious chocolate chip cookies and ice cold milk in the Carriage House sitting room. We are already looking forward to our next stay at J. Patrick House.

5 on May 31, 2014
We arrived on a Tuesday and were greeted by Patricia, a gracious innkeeper. The rooms are quaint, clean and comfortable. In the morning we were served breakfast by John, the owner, who is a terrific chef. In the late afternoon we had cheese, crackers and wine and each evening we had milk and homemade cookies. When we made our reservations Patricia suggested taking a wine tour with Wine Wrangler which we did on Wednesday. We had a fantastic time with two other couples and tasted some fabulous wines. Supper at Linn's that night was superb. (Be certain to make a reservation.) Each breakfast was unique. We were there three nights and plan to go back this fall. An especially wonderful place to celebrate an event and very romantic.

If you really want to UNPLUG, this place is a great option. Our room was comfy enough but worn and in need of a good scrub. The bathroom was beyond funky with mildewed wallpaper, decrepit rusty faucets and no fan to exhaust steamy air from the shower. The breakfasts were superb and the innkeepers very convivial and helpful.

J. Patrick House is a wonderful place to stay in Cambria. It is very relaxing and close to town. The morning breakfast is fabulous and a good way to meet other guests. It is convenient to the beach as well as other places of interest such as Hearst Castle and the elephant seals beach. We have always enjoyed our time at J. Patrick House.

A pleasant location, parking is easy, back from street, very good breakfast, John and staff are very pleasant, easy access to hwy-1 and close to Cambria. While not much of an inconvenience, only the bath window is the only window that can be left open at night ... however, given the cool climate this was not a problem.

We were disappointed when we arrived at the decor. very dated and not quaint feeling as we had hoped. For the price, we wanted a far better experience. We did like the fact that there was no TV or Internet or phone.... great place to escape all of that. The fireplace in the room was wonderful. The shower had hair in it, used soap, and it was very dirty. The bathroom had not appeared to have been clean beyond that either. The room was clean and bedding was clean. We let our host konw that we were having to leave early in the morning the night before and requested a sack breakfast to go with us.... she was not able to provide that, not even a bag with an apple, or anything. She had cookies out the night before and they were hard and stale tasting. Over all for the price, we were disappointed and would not recommend others to stay here and we would have preferred to travel a bit more to a nicer place to stay for that price.

This was our second time staying at the J Patrick House. Obviously, we liked it the first time or we wouldn't have gone back. This time was even better. Nice attention to our room. The happy hour was especially nice because we got to spend time with the innkeeper. Our casual chat went far beyond the hour scheduled. We had a fine time and look forward to going back.

Hospitality was second to none. Enjoyed our stay in this home away from home. The Clare room was special and gave us access to the private living space in the main house. Wine and appetizers in the evening set the mood for a great walk on the beach. The breakfasts were yummy and filling. And the best part of our stay was coming back from dinner to find chocolate chip cookies and milk provided on a tray by the door to our room.

Breakfast was really grand. John was the ultimate host. Remembers everyone's names!!! Mattress was fabulous. Room spacious and with a fireplace. I would go again in a heartbeat! Wish they had a room with separate beds. I'd love to make return visits with a friend (but not bed fellow). Poking through Cambria would be much more fun with a girl friend. My husband had a good time, but wouldn't want to do it as often as I would!

This was a great gem to find in Cambria. The cabin style of this place made this place feel cozy and unique. Everything was very clean and the fireplace was a great feature in our room. We let the cool air fill our room so that in the evening we were able to enjoy the ambiance of the crackling sound of the fire. It was in a great location, within 5 minutes from downtown Cambria and the beach. Paso Robles was just about 20-25 minutes away. The customer service was great and the guests were all really nice and shared stories of the places they have visited for the day (to say if the visit was worth it or not lol). The food was also amazing and it was different each morning. We stayed for 2 nights. It was a great place to end our honeymoon at. :) They also had board games to play with to pass time in the evening along with fresh cookies and milk to cure that sweet tooth. They also have a nice wine and cheese evening to enjoy your time with the staff and guests to socialize and relax. :) We look forward to staying here again!

I have stayed at the J. Patrick House previously, and it was wonderful to be back. We booked for two nights as our last stop on a week trip along the coast. The rooms are cozy and clean, the gardens are typical Cambria green, the innkeepers are very personable, and the little touches (the famous cookies, John's amazing breakfasts, and the wine and cheese in the evening) make this a real gem. Unfortunately we had to cut our stay short due to a family member becoming gravely ill. We are booking another trip this winter to make up what we missed. I've stayed at other good B&B's, but this is still my favorite.
5 on August 17, 2013

The J. Patrick House was unknown to us prior to our booking it for a 4-night stay. We could not have been happier with our choice. Our room was cozy (especially with the wood-burning fireplace) and comfortable. Our breakfasts were outstanding, having been prepared by the owner, John who is a magnificent chef and host. He makes everyone feel so at home and is an engaging conversationalist. The town of Cambria and surrounding areas had much to offer in the way of entertainment and activity (shopping, interesting arts and crafts, great restaurants, Hearst Castle (not to be missed), elephant seals, Moonstone Beach, kayaking and golf at Morro Bay State Park, and wine-tasting in Paso Robles. And always fresh baked chocolate chip cookies and milk waiting for us upon our return to the J. Patrick House in the evening. Pure delight!

We stayed in the Clare room, which is the only guest room in the main house. It was perfect! The king size bed, seating area, and real wood fireplace made for a cozy and luxurious experience. Breakfast and the evening Chocolate Chip Cookies were great. Anne steered us towards a lovely place for dinner and gave us a coupon for half off wine. There's no wifi there, but that added to our experience because we have work-a-holic tendencies.

If you are looking for a cozy cabin in the woods along the central coast of CA, then this is the place to stay. We had a break from electronics as there was no internet or tv, which we really enjoyed. We stayed during the summer and still found that it was cool enough to use the in-room fireplace. The owner John is very friendly and a good cook. The cookies and milk at night were a nice touch. The people we spoke to at breakfast and at the evening reception were almost all repeats to the inn.

Very friendly hospitality from greeting and check-in (smooth and effortless), thou breakfast each day, to checkout. Breakfast, by the way, was among the best we've ever experienced at a B&B! The only thing keeping me from giving a complete 5-star was the fact that the mattress (Limerick) was old and saggy. Some upgrading is in order. Was able to sit on the beds in another open, vacant room and it was better, firmer. So, make a special request for another room and enjoy!

Really enjoyable one night stay. We were simply passing through but arrived in time for the wine and cheese offering. They had a glitch in the system that double booked the room we requested, but they were still able to accomodate us and offered a very generous refund for the error. Beyond that, they were extremely apologetic and went out of their way to ensure that we were happy (which we absolutely were). We really enjoyed our room and loved the fireplace. Breakfast was absolutely amazing! While we only had one night, we would absolutely return to spend more time at J. Patrick House and exploring the wonderful area.

Stayed at J Patrick House for 3 nights and it was comfy, clean and friendly. The owner made breakfast each day and chatted it up with the patrons who are forced to be in an intimate setting (not a bad thing). It was a cozy atmosphere and very organized. Wine and cheese hour also made you socialize as there is no where to hide (not a bad thing). Again, everything is organized and under control. The fire places in the room with NO TV was the best form of relaxing entertainment. If you did not want to go there, then you could walk to The Lodge which had a restaurant and a bar with a live band. I will definitely go back.

This was our first experience staying at a B&B and EVERYTHING about it was WONDERFUL! Our welcoming hostess, Lori was the BEST she made us feel right at home. The main house is gorgeous! We stayed in the Dublin room and it was charming with it's pot belly stove. The grounds made you feel like you might be staying somewhere in Ireland. The breakfast was DELISH! The owner John is an AMAZING cook who also has a great sense of humor. You can tell he really loves what he does. When you eat one of his breakfast you will not need to eat again until dinner! We met some lovely people while staying here and every evening there were homemade chocolate cookies...AMAZING, and ice cold milk waiting for you in the sitting room. We are looking forward to our next stay for sure. We highly recommend this beautiful place!

We always enjoy everything about our stay. We loved being able to have a fire in our room so easily, but would have liked the option of using the heater also. We were not able to get it working. We also very much enjoy the time we other guests wine and snack. I would recommend having something a little nicer than cracker spreads to go with the wine. The inn keeper more than went out of her way to find fun things for us to do and service us!!

This B & B is a charm with lovely decorated rooms, delicious breakfasts, thick chocolate chip cookies and milk, and good quality wines with cracker and cheese mixtures daily. Breakfast always starts with their homemade granola and yogurt with fresh fruit, then includes an entree that is different each day. Their breakfast bread is so yummy and is served with butter, jam (made locally), and cream cheese. Cambria is located near the ocean, so we enjoyed a leisurely walk along the cliffs (saw a deer and lots of squirrels). We also strolled through the quaint shops on the main street and toured the winery areas. There is no TV or internet, but that is why we like it. It's a place to totally relax without the interruptions of daily life.

The J. Patrick really exceeded my expectations. The rooms were in great condition, service was awesome. I really loved that they had a wine and cheese hour that allowed the guests to interact with one another. The breakfast was yummy and filling. The only thing that needed some help was parking area; it was not easy to maneuver in and out. I would definately recommend this to my friends and family- Diana from El Paso, Tx

We had a wonderful time. The room was clean, had a fireplace and the bed was comfy. We were greeted with enthusiasm by Cathie who gave us lots of information There was wine an appetizers at 5:30 and later there were home-made cookies and milk." The next morning we were greeted by the owner, John when he brought coffee to our building and again when he served us an absolutely wonderful freshly made breakfast. I recommend this lovely Bed and Breakfast for persons who appreciate true value.

Hosts were very hospitable, and the daily breakfasts were exceptional. Have one suggestion though-- why not showcase one or more wines from the Paso Robles area when you serve at your evening reception. Seems like it would be a win/win situation.

For my birthday I wanted to get away. This was my first time going to a bed breakfast and it was amazing. I felt welcomed and like I was visiting friends. J. Patrick house would be a place I would visit again. They made my birthday weekend memorable.

I have stayed at the J. Patrick House four times and each time has been wonderful! The house is well maintained, clean and so warm and inviting, as is John and Ann, the owners. When you talk to them, it's like talking to family, they truly are warm, caring folks. And then there is John's one-of-a-kind breakfasts! Simply amazing and so tasty! Oh, and another thing...just before you retire to your cozy room, John serves his famous warm chocolate chip cookies and milk...to die for! You never heard "quiet" like when you say at this wonderful B&B. :O)

Nicely decorated bedroom with King-sized bed & private bathroom, wood-burning stove and no TV or internet service (a welcomed break from technology!) John, the proprietor, is very personable & willing to give tips on sites in the area, as well as sharing a few stories about past guests as well. He prepared a delicious breakfast for us & even gave us a couple extra scones & cookies for a snack later in our day. I highly recommend the J. Patrick House!

If there is a downfall it was directions to the location, other then that the J Patrick House was a very nice accomidation. Breakfasts were very good, with fruit and a main course. The service was very fast and yet very accomidating. The evening wine tasting was nice to get to know people, which is why we like B&B for short vacations. I was very pleased with the J Patrick house and would recomend and stay there again if in the area. ...jeff

My husband and I loved staying at the J. Patrick Inn! It was so very nice to make a fire in our lovely decorated room each night with burning logs, and have a good night sleep in a comfortable bed. The breakfasts were delicious and the staff was very welcoming and friendly. Since it was a weekend to relax, unwind, and unplug I liked (and eventually so did my husband) the fact that there was no internet connection. Because of this, when we got back to our room it was easier to leave work at home (we could have always gone to a coffee shop for internet if we really wanted - but for 2 days, we were happy). We also loved the wine and cheese hour and the yummy bedtime chocolate cookies and milk. Oh, and my husband really appreciated the strong water pressure in the shower! :)

I chose J Patrick House because of its close proximity to Hearst Castle. I found out many customers return often. I will do the same when I have opportunity. The room was clean. The room was comfy. The room was quiet. The room was romantic. The owner was very helpful at breakfast to help us plan our day along the Big Sur coast. This is a very good B & B.

My wife and I stayed for a two night get-away with some dear friends. What a wonderful place! No TV and No Phone..........so nice to just connect with the one you love! Our room was very comfortable room with a wood burning fireplace. Nice bath. Bed was comfortable. Nice accommodations for 1 or 2. Breakfast in the morning along with wine and cheese in the evening are included in your stay. A short walk, yes walk, to east Cambria and restaurants. Drive if you like. Beach is the attraction here along with Hearst Castle and Big Sur. Do not forget the drive the back country roads to see deer, wild turkey and other wildlife. Paso Robles wineries are about 20-30 min. away. Note like Napa in that roads are very narrow and winding. Save the driving and take one of the many wine tours available.........no designated driver needed then. We will be back again and again!

We loved the comfortable bed and especially the fireplace on our January visit. Service was wonderful, breakfasts delicious, and chocolate chip cookies every night equally delicious. We also enjoyed wine and cheese in the late afternoon sitting by the fire and chatting with other guests. Very warm and welcoming atmosphere!
5 on January 02, 2013
My only suggestion is that they provide wifi for their guests. We did not have cell service in that location. If there was an emergency with our children, it would have been difficult for my mom to get a hold of us. Other than that, it was awesome!

This is a charming Bed and Breakfast. The rooms are beautiful, spacious, and comfortable, and the breakfast was generous, healthy, and delicious. There is a fun wine and cheese gathering in the late afternoon, and late evening there is cocoa and cookies in the sitting room before you retire. They are just nice extra touches that make ones stay so very pleasant.

Had a great time! My husband and I went and stayed over a holiday weekend, so we enjoyed the festival. There are about 10 wineries/vineyards within 25 minutes so it's a great location, about an hour from Washington, DC and is easy to get to. The house is quaint and charming, a little creaky as well. Pat and Patti were very nice, and Patti made a GREAT souffle for breakfast. The website is a little hard to use - no online reservations, but the phone works well just a little old school which I guess fits with the idea.

We spent two days in the "Clare" room at the J. Patrick House in Cambria and found it to be a welcoming, restful stay. The breakfasts were very tasty and filling and the cookies and milk before bedtime were really a treat. Our hosts were happy to help us find interesting things to do and recommended several restaurants to suit our tastes as well. Definitely worth the trip and we knew right away that we would be back.

We enjoyed our one night at the J. Patrick House. The wood burning/gas fireplace was nice, and the breakfast was terrific. I get why they don't have tv, but given how much people rely on their phones, especially when traveling, at least having wireless internet available would be appreciated. Would stay again.

My husband and I stayed for one night at the lovely J. Patrick House in Cambria in late September. The hostess was warm and friendly, the extra touches (complimentary wine and cheese before dinner, milk and cookies at bedtime, early morning coffee) were much appreciated and the breakfast was delicious (fruit cup and stuffed banana french toast!). Our room was spacious and lovely as was the whole inn.

Martha and I have been going down the coast to visit this place for years. It is tucked in behind the coastal range and is on top of the delightful town of Cambria. There is a decent steakhouse a short walk away. The owner is a great guy and all the staff are fine. All is pleasant, quiet, a place to sit in front of a fire and collect thoughts. We shall return next year.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Inn over Labor Day weekend and couldn't have had a better time. We stayed in the Kerry Room and absolutely adored it. The B&B isn't a five star hotel, but what it lacks in amenities it more than makes up for in charm and personality. Breakfasts were absolutely phenomenal, quiches, frittatas, and banana french toast. The nightly wine hour was a great time to unwind after the day and meet other guests and of course don't miss the late night cookies, which are just perfect. Truly a great value and great way to have a quiet, romantic time. Will definitely be staying here in the future.

My husband and I spent three nights at The J Patrick House. We had a great time in Cambria and enjoyed our stay at this lovely B&B. Cons: Rooms and bathrooms could use a little upgrading. The carpet felt a little dirty, but the room was otherwise clean. We loved the fireplace and used it every night. Be aware that the showers and toilets are low flow. The shower in our room did not work properly, as when we pushed in the plug to divert water from the spigot to the shower head, it did not fully divert water to the shower head and about half the water went down the drain via the spigot. Water pressure was not fantastic as you can imagine. My husband thought it would be nice if wireless were available; however, I do understand this is a B&B and technology is not welcome. He thought wireless would be convenient so we could look up restaurants, things to do, directions etc on our iPad or iPhone, which I agree with, though it does go against the philosophy of B&Bs. Now on to the pros: The breakfasts are phenomenal - very yummy! We loved the raisins and granola and bought some to take home. The hosts are very friendly and accommodating. The grounds around the B&B are very nice and the location is convenient and quiet. Plenty of parking as well! I'd definitely stay again, though it would be great if some renovations took place to update the rooms and restrooms.

The J. Patrick House is a lovely B&B in Cambria. We spent 3 days there over our Anniversary. The room was lovely and the bed very comfy. The owner John was so accommodating and friendly. The breakfast each morning was wonderful and John goes out of his way to make sure you have all that you need and that you get to meet the other couples there. I would definitely stay here again, but would choose a room in the back building. The room in the main house is great, as you have the whole house to yourself after 7PM, but it is quite noisy. There is some generator or something that comes on and off during the night and woke us each time. Also, when there is someone n the house, it's quite noisy in the room. The wine hour that is offered is OK, but it would be nice if there were some local wines served instead of 'big' bottles of basic white and red. When you return from an evening out there will be a tray of cold milk and cookies waiting for you. Nice touch! We will return. Thank you John for the wonderful breakfasts:-)

This was our second stay at JPH. We really like the location, the facility, and of course the food. This is a great place to relax, the staff are VERY helpful, both in finding places to go, as well places to eat. They will also make the reservations for you. Basically, a worry free stay. Food is always top notch, and portioned well enough, but you can ask for more if you are still hungry. Personally, they set the bar for best B&Bs.
5 on August 14, 2012
We have stayed at JPH somewhere around ten times over the years and it never disappoints. The best recommendation is that we have finally convinced some of our friends and family to check it out and they love it too and can't wait to go back. If you really want to relax, it is the place to go!
3.8 on August 13, 2012
We love the J. Patrick House. This was our second visit and we are sure to return. The staff is fantastic and they do all the little things right. Yor day starts with a gourmet breakfast. There's wine and cheese in the evening and milk and fresh baked cookies before bed. The rooms are quaint with nice furnishings, however they are starting to show a little wear. The bathrooms could also use some updating. These issues by no means take away from the charm of this inn. It is the only place we will ever stay in Cambria.

We first came to the J.Patrick House in 1985 the year after it opened. We had a very relaxed week of vacation. We had four days to unwind from a very hectic life in Pasadena. Our room the Kilkenny was supposed to be haunted and John assured us that is wasn't haunted. Since we got in late we went to Madeline for supper, it was quiet and we enjoyed local seafood. We slept with the the windows open to the sound of a fountain. The room was wonderful. Each morning of our stay John and his staff prepared yogurt with fruit and a home- made granola that is out of this world. I remember banana french toast, frittata, and other home-made offerings for breakfast. All were excellent. John waited on each table himself, connecting with the guests as if we were part of his family. If you go to JPH the Sea Chest is a must. No reservations and cash only. Our day trips included a hike to the Piedras Blancas Light Station and hours watching the sea lions. Paso Robles is just a few miles away and John shared some of his favorite wineries. I wish we could have stayed a month! We brought home three bags of their granola, a little linking object to four peaceful days at the J. Patrick House. PS. Where can you go four hours from Los Angeles and have a fire in your bedroom fireplace every night! Thank you John and Ann!

We called ahead that we would be arriving after hours, and were told that the instructions would be left in an envelope on the office door. As I was reaching for the envelope, the door opened and the manager stepped out--she was still there, so she helped us find our room and showed us how to use the keys. We appreciated her helpful attitude. The keys are a bit tricky, and opening the outside door is not easy. Everything in the room was just as we had anticipated from the web-site, cozy and comfortable, like being a guest in someone's old house. Breakfast was right on time and served by the friendly inn-owner.

J Patrick House is a quaint log cabin in the woods, with a "carriage house" behind which can house 6 parties. Parking is adequate, rooms are very clean and offer a wood-burning fireplace for chilly nights. Bathrooms are spotless. We tested out the heater and had to open the windows to cool off. They serve wine at cocktail time, cookies and milk in the evening, and a full breakfast in the morning. Host John is a great raconteur and you come away feeling like you've stayed at the home of a good friend.

We stayed at the J. Patrick House for the first time late in April. As we were arriving late, we asked John if he could arrange for a late arrival -- we got some email instructions for how to get to the Inn and once we arrived it was incredibly easy to find our room. In the morning we were greeted by our friendly host, an incredible breakfast of fresh fruit (with some delicious home made granola) then baked french toast... the atmosphere during breakfast the atmosphere was vibrant and we ended up having some great conversations with John as well as the other guests. After an amazing day at Moro Bay we stopped back to recharge and explore the hors d'oeuvre and some wine before an evening at Hearst Castle. After our visit to the Castle we went to dinner at an amazing restaurant that was recommended by Jonh who also helped us make a reservation. Our only regret was that we only were able to stay for two nights, our last breakfast was an amazing souffle with some cherry croissants, and during that breakfast John recommended some wineries that we could visit on our drive home... again the atmosphere of the B&B shined as we had a lively conversation with the other guests and John about what were the best wineries to visit. We will definitely return, and hopefully soon!!!

My husband and I booked a room at J Patrick on a last-minute whim a few weekends ago. We love Cambria, and just needed to get away for a few days. Our stay at J Patrick was superb, and it was just what I hoped we would experience at a bed and breakfast. The service was friendly, the property very peaceful and beautiful, and our room was super cozy. The evening wine hour was awesome, and we were able to meet and chat with the other guests staying for the weekend. It's a brilliant idea because you already know who everyone is during breakfast the next day, so it's easy to talk to everyone. Breakfast was perfect, and though I was pretty much full after the fruit, yogurt, and granola, I just had to eat the entire hot entree as well, because it was SO DELICIOUS. John was an amazing host, and was great to talk to during breakfast. I'm really glad we were able to meet him. He was able to tell us a lot about Cambria, and suggest things to do that we wouldn't have been able to find on our own. Overall, the stay was superb, and we will be back in the near future! PS: Cookies and milk at night!? YUMMMmmm!

My wife and I stayed one night at the J Patrick House. This was our second stay here. The room was warmly appointed, had a wood ceiling and a fireplace, which we used! The queen bed was in need of a mattress update, though. It was a bit uncomfortable. The bathroom and shower were clean, although the toilet was loose. All in all, the room met expectations. The J Patrick House makes wonderful cookies, left out in our foyer, with some ice cold milk. They also have a wine and cheese hour which we did not participate in because we were out. The next morning we made our way down to breakfast; and what a breakfast! Home made yogurt over fruit with the owner's home made granola. Very tasty. Then came his Banana French Toast with maple syrup. It's more like a bread pudding with bananas on top. Wonderfully rich. The owner was very personable and spoke with all of us there eating breakfast. I would definitely stay at J Patrick House again!

We have stayed at the J. Patrick house ever since we started dating almost 8 years ago. We try to make it an annual visit and we are never disappointed! B & B is ideally located near the coast (Big Sur) and Hearst Castle and close to the Freeway. Rooms were very tastefully decorated and fully equipped with a romantic fireplace! We were warmly welcomed and given a glass of wine with delicious snacks. The breakfast was excellent both times with a good host. Nearby are good restaurants. We definitely recommend it and will definitely return. Guido & Kristel from Holland

John, the Innkeeper, was a warm and engaging man who gave personal attention to each one who was at breakfast. The breakfast portions were magnificent; as was the cuisine. We had a wonderful time exploring the surrounding area and chose to hike the Salmon Creek trail, which was just a few mile from Ragged Point. I would recommend the J Patrick House to anyone who would like to get away for a glorious weekend.

Every time we stay here we love the property and the people, they are fantastic.

We recently stayed at the J.Patrick house for New Years and found this B & B to be a wonderful getaway. The rooms were spacious and tastefully decorated and we loved having the fireplace at night. This is the kind of place you can go for a romantic weekend or just a weekend away on your own. The location is ideal. You're walking distance from town or the beach so you can easily park your car and not worry about driving for the rest of your stay. We would highly recommend this B&B.

The bathrooms were a huge disappointment- REALLY dated and cheaply done. I asked for a room that could fit two people...no way. Simple, cheap, 80's fiberglass tub with a glass door. Not up to par with the rest of the room. We LOVED the fireplace in the room- very romantic. The Inn keeper is super nice and very friendly. Wonderful staff. Even with the bathroom issue, we would stay here again.

Nice quaint B&B. No electronic communications (no TV, no Internet, no phone...). Breakfast was very good. Owner was very nice to talk to. A couple of small negatives: 1) toilet wasn't fixed after notifying receptionist and 2) receptionist could have been friendlier.

A warm cozy room with a fireplace and private bath made our stay very relaxing. The two breakfasts were excellent and served with personal care of the owner.

Upon our stay, we were greeted by a friendly helper, who told us the innkeepers would not be back for two days, and that we would see them at breakfast on our last stay. I realize everyone needs a vacation, but we were disappointed to not be greeted by the innkeepers, as were were in all bed and breakfasts we have stayed at. It makes it a little more personable for the guests. The morning John did greet us warmly and served an awesome breakfast. He shared several stories about himself, which were interesting and funny, but we were not sure if he knew much about his guests. We stayed in the room above the inn, and loved it. Every night we had milk and cookies, a nice touch! We had the whole inn to ourselves, as they locked the inn after about 8pm. The king sized bed was very comfortable and had nice bedding. The room was very cozy! The bathroom and some of the pictures were outdated and could have used some updating, but everything was very clean! The town of Cambria was very quaint, with a lot of cute shops and great dining. We loved the area! We would come again!

We spent two nights, and really enjoyed our stay. The room (Clare) was well-appointed, clean and comfortable. I particularly enjoyed the bed, as I have a SelectComfort bed and sleeping on spring beds is usually problematic. Breakfast was good - as far as we could tell. Both my wife and I have special dietary needs, and John took pains to accommodate us - but that meant we did not have what the others were having. That being said, it was a decent breakfast and we appreciated the assist. John also was very good at providing directions and 'local hints' for the local attractions - meaning he pointed us away from the tourist traps and towards where the locals would go. We look forward to returning! :)

I came up to Cambria for a long weekend by myself, and am so glad I stayed at the J. Patrick House. The accommodations were cute and cozy, but the service was phenomenal. The innkeeper, John, went all out to make me feel at home and comfortable even though I was traveling alone. I will definitely go back.

Just what we were looking for. Comfotable room, gracious hosts and cookies and milk to boot. Irish theme matched perfectly for our trip since we were visiting Cambria for an Irsh concert. We stayed in the Galway Room- cute, cozy and warm. Breakfast was more than enough and very tasteful. Wine and cheese were excellent as was the conversation. Staff was very helpful. Could not receommend a better place to stay.

Our stay at the J Patrick House was better then it was when we stayed in 2004. We could not have asked for anything to be better. John is an outstanding host, and Lori is an outstanding inkeeper. The breakfast was better than I could have done. We highly recommend this B&B to anyone who likes to stay in this kind of hotel, especially if you are celebrating a special occasion. Bruce & Julie

We had a wonderful 3 night stay. We were warmly welcomed and the warmth continued for the stay.Breakfasts were excellent and the wine and cheese in the early evening was a great beginning to pleasant evenings in different restaurants in Cambria.

always our favorite place in Cambria. we love the hospitality and the quaintness of the rooms. cookies at night are yummy with milk and coffee is always ready early in the morning. Just a great place. Breakfasts are special, and the wine and apetizers in the evening is good, and fun sharing with other quests.

We had a nice time at the inn, where we stayed 3 nights. There were a few maintenance (plumbing) issues in our room, but they were resolved promptly. We've stayed in many B&B's in the past (mostly in New England), so if we were to compare this inn with those of New England, I'd say it's "okay."

Charming in a "grandma" kind of way. A little too much lace and flowered wallpaper for me and the stuffed animals on the beds must go! Really nice owner and nice people work there. The breakfast was very good.

This is our 3rd visit to the J Patrick House and it exceeded all of our expectations again. My wife and I really like the breakfast in the morning and the wine and crackers/dips in the evening. We meet with the other guests and tell what we have done and what they did and get more ideas for dinner and what to do the next day. We expect to come back at least once a year and more if we can get the time.

We had driven by the J Patrick House on a previous trip to Cambria and commented then that we should try it sometime. Since we were heading to Cambria for a concert on our 35th anniversary we decided that would be an excellent time to try the B&B. It was fabulous! From the moment you arrive you are made to feel special and welcome! John is a perfect host that truly enjoys his position. The wine and cheese evening reception is a lovely way to get to know the other guests, John, and the area. Then the lovely tray of fresh chocolate cookies and cold milk that greats you on your return from wherever you have been in the evening is just perfect! The grounds are quiet and the beds and rooms are very comfortable! A lovely wood-burning fireplace and the fountain in the garden just lull you to sleep! The breakfast in the morning is amazing! Fresh, lovely, and so filling!!! One of the best things...a windshield washing station! How perfect! Right in front of the parking lot, nestled in with the jasmine! As so many journal entries in the room revealed... annual visits happen a lot! And we will be one of those! Thank you, John!

We enjoyed our stay very much. Very private little place, away from the beaten path in Cambria, but still close to the wonderful Main street and restaurants. Great food! We loved having the fireplace in our room. And oh - the chocolate chip walnut cookies that they put out in the parlor in the evening -- nice touch!!

We loved staying here for our 1yr. John was a great host and Innkeeper. From beginning to end he was helpful and welcoming! There were tons of young couples our age staying there, so we had a blast at wine and cheese hour chatting about Cambria, wine tasting etc. I grew up in Cambria, so going back is like a mini vacation for me. We loved the home-made cookies and milk that were waiting for us after we got back from dinner(I recommend Robin's, esp. their salmon bisque, it's to die!) We plan on going back, hopefully for our second year anniversary!

This is a sweet little bed and breakfast that is close to all of the little shops in Cambria (but it still requires a car). The rooms were nice but slightly outdated, it didn't bother me. They were clean and the bed was comfortable. My only complaint about the room itself was that it was hot, even with the windows open. When I asked for a fan, they tracked one down for me and that made it MUCH better! I found the entire staff to be very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Breakfast was delicious but filled with eggs. Since I don't eat eggs, I missed out some but the hubby said it was all very good. The scones, breads, fruit and granola were fantastic!!! The evening milk and cookies were a nice touch but we missed them all but one night due to dinner, when we did get them, they were great! While I loved the hotel, I am not sure I will return to Cambria. We like to experience the food and service in the towns we visit and Cambria was a disappointment. We ate at three fine dining establishments; one had good food but poor service, one had good food and good service...just as soon as they noticed we were there (40 minutes AFTER we sat down), the final one had Ok food and terrible service. The best place we found was some hole in the wall Mexican place with good food, good service and great prices; definitely not fine dining!

We had an awesome stay at this B&B. We arrived for a late checkin and they were so accomodating to make sure we got in safely and were comfortable. We felt papmpered and like we had personalized service for our short time there. We will definitely be back for a romatic weekend where we have more time to relx and enjoy Cambria. PS - Breakfast was to die for - Banana stuffed french toast - so yummy!! And Lori was a doll.

John the owner is very personable and went beyond my expectations to make sure I had a special breakfast that met my dietary requests. My husband enjoyed his banana French toast on the first morning, and a Spanish egg casserole on the second morning. John was also was very helpful in suggesting wineries in Paso Robles, since visiting all 200 isn't posssible. The rooms have a nice country decor, are spacious, and have a working fireplace. In addition to breakfast, wine was served in the evenings, and cookies and milk are served at bedtime. I would stay here again.

What I loved about this place was the nice little "extras." The fragrant flowers lining the walkway to the Carriage house where our room was. The yummy chocolate chip cookies set out at night, and coffee set out in the morning. A squeegee to wash our car's windows and trash can by the parking lot. The wine and cheese in the evening, and the delicious breakfasts. The friendliness of the hosts, which set the tone for the entire stay. Very happy with this place!

We loved our stay in Cambria, and the J Patrick House was a perfect place to stay. The afternoon happy hour and snacks provided an opportunity for us to meet and greet with the other guests. It was in close proximity to the Hearst Castle which we visited. We also loved the wood burning fireplaces in the rooms. It was cool enough in July to have a warm fire in the evening. Shopping in downtown Cambria was definitely an afternoon and/or morning activity. And there are plenty of restaurants in town. In the morning after our breakfast of french toast and homemade yogurt and granola, our host even suggested a walk at a park along the coast. Glad we stopped in Cambria.

My wife and I have stayed at the J. Patrick House twice. We LOVE it! The rooms, the cozy feel, the breakfast, the social hour each evening, and, of course...John. This bed and breakfast is run how a great B&B should be, with attention to every detail and incredible customer service.

This was at least our 6th stay with John and Ann at the J Patrick House. By far, our favorite place to stay in our favorite town, Cambria. We would not even think of staying anywhere else when we visit Cambria. The breakfasts are simply marvelous, the afternoon wine and cheese delightful and the cookies and milk at night...well, wow! John and Ann are extremely delightful to be around!! They are sociable and hospitable and look after all of your needs. The rooms are decorated to the nth degree; they are warm, cozy and the beds very, very comfortable. The rates are very competitive with other places to stay, and for the price, you will not find a place to stay that gives you more value than this does. We are already looking forward to our next stay there. Mike and Ellen Sternfeld

This is what a B&B is all about. Cosy house, great location, away from the hustle & bustle, good food, great bed, all the amenities and, to top it off, a most amiable and wonderful host. It's the little touches that we appreciated the most.

Breakfasts are outstanding and the friendliness of the proprietor and innkeeper are beyond expectations.

A nice and peaceful place. Although there were 8 sets of guests it was not noisy. The fireplace in the room was very nice. I especially enjoyed sitting out on the willow rocker in the morning while listening to the fountain. The host was friendly and helpful in directing us to places of interest as well as matching our food interests up with the right restaurant. I will be directing my friends here.

Though we only live 30 miles south of Cambria, we love to visit the J. Patrick House whenever we want to pamper ourselves without the hassle of long-distance travel. Because there are no phones or televisions in the rooms, we can count on uninterrupted peace and quiet. The breakfasts are exquisite and filling (no need for lunch), and the hosts are always welcoming and helpful with restaurant suggestions, directions to area activities, etc. We truly do feel like we've gotten away from it all when we stay at the J. Patrick House.

J Patrick House is a precious gem! It is our favorite weekend getaway destination. We love it so much that we have made a promise to each other to visit at least once a year but hopefully twice if my workaholic husband will ever take that much time off work. Owner John is so friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming. He is a genius at introducing guests and keeping the conversation going over wine and cheese or breakfast. Oh, the breakfasts! Are amazing...no continental breakfast here. John whips up the most delicious Fratta's, Stuffed French Toast, Eggs Florentine. You won't be hungry until dinner! The rooms are delightful with a wonderful crackling fireplace in each room. Since this truly is a getaway, there are no T.V.'s in the rooms, but we bring a laptop and play a movie...if we have time. There is so much to do and explore in Cambria - hike up to the waterfall, moonstone beach and the sea lions, incredible restaurants, and fun shopping. We met the most wonderful people also staying at J Patrick House. One couple from Scotland and another from Alabama! We never laughed so much in our lives. And we may be visiting our new friends in Scotland soon!! Can't wait to go back to J Patrick House!!

Overall this B&B was nice. The rooms were clean and nicely decorated, the grounds were nice and the breakfasts were ok. The hosts were very gracious. However, the rooms were not very sound proof. Must be thin walls as noise from all rooms could be heard. We stayed in the Tipperary room and could hear a lot of movement from the upstairs room and noise from the adjacent rooms. The first night very loud snoring good be heard - killing the romance. If you are the type to make a little noise during romantic encounters, and maybe a little bashful about it, this is not the place for you as all will hear. Probably more of a place for much older couples. Since I was hoping to rekindle some lost romance, the thin walls sadly did not help in that endevour.

We enjoyed a relaxing couple's weekend at JPH. Our room was spotless, and the grounds were lovely. The breakfasts were delicious and filling, and we wish we could have milk and cookies like those EVERY night! The town of Cambria was charming; a lot of shops to explore, and too many tasty things to try them all. At JPH, we were minutes away from everything, including the beach, yet removed enough to feel like were hidden away in the woods. John and Ann were fantastic - personable and hospitable, and we felt right at home, like visiting friends more than paying guests. We hope to visit again soon.

A second trip to Patrick House reinforced my memories of the first time I stayed there. It is the perfect place to stay when visiting Cambria and Hearst Castle. The breakfast was wonderful and I wish I had the recipe for the banana french toast. John is a gracious host who can help with your trip details. He got us tickets to the local theater PPewterPlayhouse and that was a real treat. We had seats called Jimmy Durante and Ethel Merman. Making plans for another trip.

We've stayed at J.Patrick several times. It is conveniently located in the tall pine trees mid-way between the village and Moonstone beach. There is great camaraderie at breakfast as every one prepares to head out for the day. Then in the evening it is really neat as most everyone staying at the inn are seated around the living room, with a cozy welcoming fire, sharing the events of the day over a glass of wine before heading out to dinner. John and Ann operate a warm and welcoming inn, as such, the people that stay there are repeat visitors, which adds to the experience. Its a great place; warm bed, glass of wine, good food and good people.

My wife and I went to the J. Patrick house to celebrate our wedding anniversary--we were a little leery going to a BB for our first time, but those insecurities were quickly relieved by the friendly staff of this establishment. All of our expectations were met and surpassed at the J. Patrick House. The service was excellent, the rooms were great, and the banana-french toast breakfast in the morning was delicious. My husband and I spent our anniversary at the J Patrick House this year. Everything is exactly as advertised on their website. The rooms are pretty, clean and comfortable. We were greeted warmly, given a quick tour, told the rules, and left alone. Honestly there was absolutely nothing to complain about during our visit. The most outstanding thing about our stay was the fun evening conversations with the other guest, I just wish we could have had more than an hour before being scooted out of the main building. I'm really not certain why this place has received awards. It was lovely and nice, but in my opinion there was nothing outstanding about the B&B or the service. It is a lovely place, with nice people and for the most part met my expectations.

This was my first experience with a bed and breakfast. My girlfriend and I had the chance to get away for a weekend, and I happened upon J Patrick House while browsing the internet. I could not have had a more fortunate choice! From the get-go, John's hospitality made the both of us feel that we were staying with a close friend or relative. The coziness of the room, warmth and friendliness of the guests, and amazing culinary skills of John all just blew us away. After a visually stunning tour of Hearst castle, we retired to the house for a nice rest. John then hammed it up with us during his wine and social hour, all the while booking restaurant reservations for everybody. His cookies and breakfast alone are enough for the return trip, but the atmosphere and memories make it a necessity.

John did an excellent job attending to us. It was especially interesting to talk with him. He is a very good cook and baker. Breakfasts were very good. Suggest adding wifi connection. Don't think it would detract from the beauty of of the facilities or affect the landscaping.

My girlfriend and I spent three nights at The J Patrick House celebrating her birthday. This was my girlfriend's first experience in a B&B. She wasn't disappointed. There are two things she enjoys, 1) a comfortable bed, and 2) a great breakfast to start the day off right! This was the perfect place for her first B&B experience. This was our first time at the J Patrick House, but God willing it won't be our last.

The afternoon wine & cheese hour was fun and interactive, and the milk & cookies at night were a nice touch! The breakfast was very good as well. You do not get a choice of breakfast food, but everything was home made and very fresh. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay, and definitely recommend the b & b to our friends and family.

J Patrick house offers the quaintness of staying at your rich uncle's house in the middle of no where but in Cambria. No tv or dvd player, no telephone and no internet service. Some of the interior needs updating but is cozy and clean. My mattress wasn't as comfortable as I expected from a boutique type B and B. The breakfast was decent. Our evening hors oeuvres included Salmon Creek wine with crackers, tuna spread or cheese. Big points for the chocolate chip cookies, not overly sweet and nutty. I probably wouldn't stay there again because of the mattress and lack of wifi access.

John made our visit delightful as he was there to see that our needs were always met. In the evening there was always chilled milk and fresh cookies awaiting for us in our room. The bed was very comfortable and the comforter / blankets just wraspped around us in soft fabric and with the large wood burning fireplace to lull us to sleep, what else can you ask for. The breakfast was outstanding and the hot coffee kept coming. The living room turned into a gathering place for all the guests and John led the group in stories of laughter. Definitely a repeat place to add to our list of favorites. Stan / Linda M

We came to the J Patrick House for our 2 year anniversary. We just wanted to get away, relax, and be with each other. Neither of us had ever been to a bed and breakfast before, so we didn't really know what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised to find a super cute, super cozy room. John's cooking was fantastic, we enjoyed the wine and cheese, and LOVED LOVED LOVED the cookies and milk before bedtime. I think it was also great that there was no television or internet, as it was so nice to not be distracted by those things. We were able to concentrate on each other and just enjoy the quiet. We also enjoyed playing one of the many boardgames available in the hallway. We would MOST definitely stay at the J Patrick House again, and highly reccommend it to other people.

Our stay was excellent, as usual. John was gracious and funny. We can't wait to pass this way again. Maybe for my 45!

My wife and I were visiting Cambria for the first time in mid December for our anniversary. We loved the atmosphere and the friendly staff and owner who added so much to our weekend from the wine and cheese happy hour social to the delicious breakfast. John suggested a few must visit wineries that are sure to please as well!

Best we've stayed in, best service, best food, best accomodations. The wife was happy and that's more important than anything else. We will be staying there again soon.

My husband and I stayed here during a drive up the California coast and had such a wonderful visit. The B&B was cozy and warm, and the Innkeepers were exceptional. We enjoyed drinks by the fire and a delicious breakfast the next morning. We will definitely return for another visit and would recommend this place to anyone!

We will hopefully be making this bed and breakfast a yearly stay. Great food, great service, and a beautiful little town.

This is our 2nd trip and once again John made us feel like pampered guests in his home. We stayed 2 nights and enjoyed meeting 2 completely different sets of people - from as far away as Australia and Switzerland. You can't go wrong with this lovely inn.

My wife & I have been visiting the Cambria area regularly for 25 years. We found this little gem a few years back & have returned once or twice each year ever since. We count John and Ann as dear friends, rather than just our innkeepers. JPH is truly our "home away from home". Try it once & you'll become regulars too. Even if the local charm, coastal scenery, & nearby wineries don't do it, John's banana-stuffed french toast will bring you back for sure.

I stayed at J Patrick House last month in October. Loved it! Very cozy, nice room. Very friendly hosts....great breakfast and chocolate chip cookies. The place is very close to all the shops and restaurants. I would highly recommend this place to everyone.

This was by far the most relaxing 2 days of my life. We are already planning our next visit in the Spring. We have found "our place"!
4.2 on November 10, 2010
John made my husband and I feel so welcome. The breakfast he made was delicious and filling. We stayed in the main house and enjoyed the fireplace in our room and how spacious it was. The only thing we would add to our room would be another small 4 drawer dresser and maybe some more hangers. But our stay was very relaxing and enjoyable. We look forward to coming back sooner than on an anniversary. Thank you John.

After years of staying in Cambria and hearing about J. Patrick House from family, my wife and enjoyed a couple of nights there. Able only to speak to the single room in the main house.. fantastic! Great place, amazing food and even better people made the stay a huge win.

My wife and I stayed here for our 11th Anniversary. The staff is really friendly, and our room was very comfortable. We lit the fireplace the first night which gave us a very romantic setting. The staff was helpful with recommending restaraunts, infact we saw the inn keeper at one of her recommendations! Overall great place, the hosted wine hour was fun as well. I highly recommend this place.

First time at a Bed & Breakfast Inn and I could not of picked a better place to stay in Cambria. Cozy and Romantic (stayed in the Limerick Room) the best in my opinion with a nice brick real woodburning fireplace...the food is divine, the grounds are lovely with a beautiful and colorful garden. John (the owner) is a fabulous host and chef, and pays attention to every detail. The granola is the best I ever had, the chocolate cookies and milk at night are an extra treat and the best cookies! The wine and cheese hour is fun meeting other guests, and John's feta cheese dip is addicting. I will definitely be back and send my friend too!

Our room was very comfortable and cozy - we loved the working fireplace. Meeting the other couples, as well as the owners, for wine and cheese hour was wonderful. It was so nice to meet others and have a relaxing evening before heading out for dinner. At breakfast the next morning it was nice to talk to everyone again - it really created a nice sense of familiarity. Breakfast was fantastic - stuffed french toast!

Our recent stay at J. Patrick House was a great experience. John was a most attentive host with lots of good conversation. The breakfasts were some of the best my wife and I have had! We are looking forward to a return trip in the near future.

Our stay at the J. Patrick House was truly one of the highlights of our long weekend trip. The ambiance was one of warmth and welcoming. The Inn is beautifully decorated which enhances the coziness. From the cookies at night for a snack to the breakfast with scones in the morning everything was perfect. We enjoyed our stay immensely and look forward to visiting again.

3.8 on October 16, 2010
We found Ann and John to be very friendly and excellent hosts. They put a lot of thought into their guests' comfort. The evening wine and cheese hour was pleasant. Breakfast was home-cooked and delicious. The only drawbacks were a barking dog at night and the bathroom, which was clean and serviceable, but nothing more than you would find at any mid-level hotel.
4.4 on October 09, 2010
The J. Patrick House was a wonderful surprise. Ann and John have created an warm, friendly atmosphere beginning with a freindly greeting, the wine and cheese gathering in the early evening and the freash baked cookies left out before bed time. John is a great breakfast cook and conversationalist also.

We only spend a single night, but we plan to return and stay several days sometime in the future. This is the place to go to drop off the net. There are no TV's, phones or internet in the rooms. There is wine and cheese with you fellow travelers in the evenings and an excellent breakfast prepared by John the owner in the morning. There was a wood burning fireplace in our room and fresh chocolate chip cookies, with milk, at bed time. We could have just sat on the porch all day and in front of the fireplace all night. Thanks John and Ann, please keep the place the same until we can get to the coast again.

The J. Patrick House was a wonderful place to stay. The rooms are very nice, but it's John that makes this B&B special. He went out of his way several times to make our stay enjoyable and I am grateful for all of his efforts. Hopefully next time we will be able to participate in the nightly wine hour. From the conversations at breakfast, it seems like it would have been great. Can't go wrong staying here. Highly recommended. Don't miss the cookies!!!

We so enjoyed staying at The J. Patrick House in late September. Our host & owner, John was especially good at being a host, chef & concierge. He gave us maps, tickets for free wine tasting & great recommendations on restaurants. The rooms were very nice. The breakfasts were delicious & very ample-size servings. The cookies & milk in the evening were a delightful treat!!! The wine & cheese hour was enjoyable-we met such nice people from around the USA & Ireland. The town of Cambria is so quaint and has such charm. It is a lovely town. We would definitely go back to Cambria & The J. Patrick House.

Although we have spent time over the years in the Cambria area, this was our visit stay at the J. Patrick House, and we couldn't have been more pleased. The room was quiet and charming, the breakfasts were delicious and the service was great. The Innkeeper provided a friendly atmosphere that made all the guests feel right at home. We met some wonderful fellow-guests in the parlor each evening for wine and good cheer. We shall definitely return.

September 2010 A peaceful get-away; The J. Patrick is our favorite B&B. Guests since 1993, We've never had a bad experience. You start your day with a special breakfast personally prepared by John. We always make a point of joining other guests in the main house for wine and cheese before heading downtown for dinner. If you like a little snack before bed then you can enjoy a few "killer" chocolate chip cookies n' milk. Highly recommended -

Our after hours arrival was handled flawlessly. The flowers and grounds were beautiful. Loved the banana bread pudding we had for breakfast.
2.4 on September 23, 2010
While the J. Patrick House, at one time, may have been an outstanding B&B, it now seems to be a bit tired and in need of some updating. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the breakfasts were quite good but the room was very tired and the bathroom needed a total upgrade. The wallpaper was peeling, the shower head was not working properly and the toilet wasn't sitting stable on the floor. Maybe our expectations were too high; but we certainly were expecting better than what we received.
4.4 on September 22, 2010
We really enjoyed our stay at the J Patrick House. It was a wonderful location amongst the trees, and close to Cambria without being right in town. The room was cozy, very clean, and comfortable. The real wood burning fireplace was a nice touch. Breakfast was delicious. We would definitely stay there again.

My husband and I stayed 4 nights at The J Patrick House recently and enjoyed it very much....John, the innkeeper, was friendly and gracious, as well as an outstanding chef. Our breakfasts were delicious and plentiful! The fireplace in our room was a welcome feature as the weather was much cooler than expected. Bed was comfortable and the cookies in the evening were to die for. I recommend this B&B to anyone visiting the Cambria area.

This was our third time staying at the J Patrick, and it is definitely our favorite B&B. As always, the breakfasts were amazing! We wanted to go wine tasting in Paso Robles, and John pointed us to some wonderful wineries, and even a great place for a picnic lunch. We really love the afternoon wine and cheese - a great way to meet other guests and hear their experiences as well. We will definitely be back again!

We have stayed twice now at The J Patrick House and both times have been extremely enjoyable. It's a very quiet and home-like atmosphere. Warm cookies with a nice glass of cold milk in the evening before turning into bed and a wonderful breakfast waiting for us the next morning. John and the staff are always very hospitable and they make the stay better every time. We will be back. Lisa and Cameron, Simi Valley, Ca.

We stayed in our favorite room - Galway - at JPH. This was our 9th or 10th visit and each visit has been wonderful and relaxing. John, Ann and their staff treat their visitors like family. John's breakfasts are to die for, especially the banana-stuffed French toast. We can't wait to return.

My boyfriend and I randomly chose the J. Patrick House when doing a web search for a B&B in Cambria. We came up July 4th, 2009, and we so delighted with our visit. We discovered, during the wine and cheese happy hour, that ALL of the other guests were either on their honeymoon or celebrating their anniversary. I felt a little left out of the extreme romance, but our evening by the fireplace with milk and fresh cookies fixed that. This 4th of July we could not visit J. Patrick House... because we were married on that day. We did, of course, drop in a few days later, on our own honeymoon. Our stay was even more perfect the second time around. The place is lovely and bursting with charm. They've thought of everything to make your stay magical, from the cookies to the delectable breakfasts – homemade granola & local raisins just for starters – to the crisp sheets, teddy bears, and window washing gear in the parking lot. It really is heavenly. We will visit again and again, at least once, per year. It's beautiful in summer, but there's always the elephant seal calving season in winter too. Any excuse! Maybe we'll meet you over wine and cheese or breakfast.
5 on July 16, 2010
This is our second time at the J Patrick House, and we can hardly wait for the next visit! The Cambria area is beautiful, the B&B itself is well maintained, idylic in location and feel, the staff is friendly and attentive, and the food....well, I am sure I gained a few pounds yet again! Dont miss the cookies, worth every calory and the breakfast is unrivaled at any of the many B&Bs I have stayed at over the years.
5 on July 16, 2010
Really enjoyed our one night in Cambria...The J Patrick House was just far enough away from home to feel like a different world! The guests all gathered for the Wine and Cheese and talked about their day, and then again at breakfast. Thanks again for the perfect get away.

The J. Patrick House is a crown jewel in the realm of bed and breakfast. The owner (John) and innkeeper (Lauri) are masters at making their guests feel at home and important. Breakfasts are absolutely fantastic as are the furnishings in each room. Beautiful grounds and special touches such as the wine and cheese hour, superb chocolate chip cookies and milk at bedtime make this b&b a must on your trip up hwy. 1.

We enjoyed three nights at J.Patrick House. Rooms matched website photos and descriptions, breakfasts were great (portions more than enough!) and Lori and Syd were helpful with area information. We met some great people during the wine and snack time each evening. All in all a very enjoyable stay. We hope to head back to the Cambria area in the fall and J Patrik House will be our destination.

Of all the B&B's we visited on our just-completed 8,834.6 mile journey by car around the U.S.A., The J. And add to that the stunning location, in one of America's loveliest resort areas! Thank you, Ann & John. Everett & Sally B., Norfolk, CT

My wife and I were looking for a nice place to spend our 4 year anniversary that was in driving distance. My brother recommended the J Patrick House - this place is in Cambria a sleepy ocean town that's the right choice if your looking to relax. The location is great - close to downtown - but up hill and hidden away so it stays quite. The service was friendly and professional. Breakfast was 5 star. You won't be disappoint with this quaint little choice whether you want to visit Hearst Castle, hang out at Moonstone beach, stop over on your way up the 1 to Monterey or visit the local wine country - this is a great launching point. You'll love all the little extras that makes this bed and breakfast a memorable vacation spot. Give Lori a call - you won't regret it.

J. Patrick House is the place you want to stay for a full B&B experience, from the afternoon wine and cheese social hour, the beautiful room with its own fireplace, the milk & cookie before bed, the excellent personal service from Laurie, and great breakfast! It was our first time at The J Patrick house and we were very glad we chose the Clare's Room in the log cabin lodge building. It was very private (once the social hour left) and we felt like we were in our own home, only much nicer of course! Beverley and Thomas

I spent two days at JPH a few days before Christmas. I was by myself, but I never felt 'alone'. John was there to greet me each morning, and I felt like the breakfast he served was made especially for me... :) The several guests I met there were delightful & interesting. It stormed heavily the last evening of my stay, but I could see the main house from my room's bay window -- it's Christmas lights glittering. The fireplace in my room was glowing warmly, and I was as comfortable and cozy as one could possibly get. I even managed to complete reading a book I had started months ago.... imagine (!) I look forward to visiting in July... Barbara Marie Encinitas, California

Thanks so much for the great breakfast made by Lori and the very accomodating staff.

My son and his girlfriend discovered JPH a couple of years ago, and suggested that we all get together there for a special occasion; our son proposed to his girlfriend of 3 years at Hearst Castle! John's stuffed french toast gave us a hearty good start to this memorable day, and the egg souffle the following morning was amazing! (Perhaps John will attempt my red velvet cheesecake recipe for future guests!) The rooms were cozy and with the fireplace burning, you hardly knew it was raining outside. John was entertaining and from the beginning of our stay, made us feel like old friends reconnecting. This is truly an outstanding venue in which to wind down, meet new people, enjoy good food, and in our case, make a memorable family event that much more special. Thank you so very much John and Ann and JPH staff. We will see you soon!

Our stay at the JPH was truly one of a kind. Their attention to details are impressive....the cute teddy bears all over the place...the killer cookies before bedtime...wine and cheese at the fireplace....nice selection of music by the CD player....and the friendliness and hospitality of the host, John was very sincere and heart-warming...(not to mention his superb breakfast preparation skills)...hmmmmmmmm ...I can still remember how that chili corn souffle tasted like...my husband and I will definitely be back just as most of their guests are. My husband and I had only one problem though, the coziness of the bed prevented us from staying awake...we have never slept so much!

The wine and appetizers, always great and good chance to swap stories with other guests. Breakfast is always so good, not to mention the chocolate chip cookies and milk at bedtime. We cannot imagine staying anywhere else while in Cambria. We have been coming here for years and always love it.

We loved it. My wife and I went for our birthdays, and J Patrick House did not disappoint. We stayed in the Clare room. A little more money, but at night, you can use the entire house where you can relax in the living room, drink some wine, and peacefully enjoy one another's company. Only one complaint. I HATE soft, mushy pillows. Oh, and if you have AT&T, your cell phone won't work. Normally, this would be welcome, but when you have left your kids at home, you kind of want to be gotten ahold of in case of emergency.

The JPH is a fabulous B&B in a cozy little town. Great for the romantic getaway. Best to visit when the weather dictates lighting a fire in the fireplace and snuggling up for the evening.

We've been to JPH years ago for Valentine's day, and returned 5 years later for our anniversary. First time we stayed at the Kilkenny room, this time we chose the Donegal room. Spacious, charming, romantic, clean, stylish, gas/wood burning fireplace in the room, full bathroom. John is a great host and creates wonderful breakfast masterpieces. The first night innkeeper Lori recommended and made dinner reservations for us, the second night John did so also. The JPH innkeepers are well respected, so when they call to make reservations, you get a great table. It's the little things that make a big difference. The cute chocolate mint on the night stand, the "killer" cookies downstairs (with milk), the sound of the water fountain, the relaxing music CD player in the room, the room diary journal that has entries from thousands of people spanning over a decade, the Wine and Cheese hour in the evening is nice, meet people from various places, (and if you brought your laptop... the unadvertised linksys wireless open access internet access). In the past we've stayed one night, now we know that 2 nights are ideal to slow down and enjoy Cambria. John and his staff work hard behind the scenes to make your stay relaxing, peaceful and enjoyable. This is a TRUE Bed and Breakfast. Highly recommend you make your reservations in advance, and don't forget to also rsvp for Hearst castle, and see the elephant seals at the beach.

We were looking for a place to stay for our 38th anniversary, that would be peaceful and relaxing after a very busy year. The J. Patrick House is just the place. The inn is charming, well maintained and woodsy. The breakfast was delicious and different each day, something we looked forward to each morning. The owners and staff were the best. Friendly, kind and knowledgable - they made us feel right at home the moment we arrived. John greeted us and wanted to make sure we were comfortable in our room and that the other visitors didn't make too much noise or disturbed us. We had no problems whatsoever. In fact, we enjoyed all those who stayed there while we were there. What a great time! We look forward to a return visit. This was a wonderful anniversary! We actually lived in Cambria at one time. It is only 20 minutes from where we live now but we really felt like tourists. No phones no TV just peace and quiet, except for the wonderful conversation at the delicious breakfast. The Craig's Morro Bay, CA

What a delightful inn! This was our first trip to this part of California (we're from Wis.) and the J.Patrick House was a the perfect place to stay while we visited area attractions. The rooms were comfortable and well-appointed. We were celebrating our 20th wedding anniv. and the innkeepers added some 'extra touches' to our room.

We had such a wonderful visit at The J Patrick House. I have stayed in various B&Bs over the years and The J Patrick House is by far the best. The rooms were delightful, the service outstanding and the food over the top. John, the Inn Keeper, was so much fun to spend time with. He entertained us with great conversation, great wine and great food. We will definitely be back.

LOVED the hospitality of our hostess Sid, and enjoyed talking with John, the owner. The room was cozy, bright, and the bed unbelievably comfortable. The real wood burning fireplace was a wonderful touch and kept the room warm also. The homemade cookies and cold milk were a perfect end to our night there as well. Will definitely stay here again!!

My wife and I received a gift card as a wedding gift from some close friends for a weekend stay at the J Patrick House. What a wonderful gift! Everything was great from the reception we received from John to the service at breakfast, not to mention the wine and cheese which gave us the opportunity to get to know the other guests. Wine tasting at local wineries and the restaurants in the lovely town were memorable. We also met a wonderful elephant seal named WALDO! We would definitely love to come back and enjoy this treasure again.

Most guests are housed in the carriage house away from the road, affording privacy. The rooms are cozy and the fireplaces a nice touch. Lots of warm nooks for reading the many materials provided...and eating cookies and milk before bedtime. Private en suite bathrooms (which we prefer) are simply appointed. Comfortable stopping place in the mid-coast.

My husband and stayed at a B&B for the first time every over the July 4th holiday. We picked the J Patrick House based on reviews and found that it was even more lovely than folks had described. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Breakfast was amazing both days...delicious banana french toast...and the cranberry scones were amazing! The best part of breakfast was listening to John's stories and all the folks staying there sharing their recent adventures in Cambria. Looking forward to future stays at the J Patrick House

We chose to make a brief trip along the central California coast to celebrate our 45th anniversary, and, based on their website and a few reviews, made a reservation at the J. Patrick House because it was a log cabin in a charming town we had never seen. The stay fulfilled our every expectation, mainly because of the attention to the smallest detail which might make a guest more comfortable in a private home. The hostess, Laurie, provided helpful information, wine and cheese in the evening, and served a beautiful breakfast prepared by Maria the next morning: excellent homemade granola, fresh fruit, yogurt, juice, good coffee, omelet with cheese and chilis, and hot scones. This was served in a cheerful breakfast room with a view of a flower filled garden and accompanied by conversation with fellow guests we had met and enjoyed the evening before. We left with a gift bag of chocolates and a note wishing us a happy anniversary, thinking that we could not have had a nicer experience.

After much researching for the perfect get-away weekend, we traveled to Cambria, a short 70 mile drive, and walked into an enchanted cottege called the J. Patrick House. We can only repeat what many other people have already said. What an overall wonderful experience. Every little detail has been thoughtfully taken care of. The breakfast was fabulous with the perfect setting. The cookies, well, what can one say about a perfect chocolate chip cookie? All in all, well worth the drive, the money and our time! We'll be going back.....

Our first time at the J. Patrick House and our third trip to Cambria. Charming B&B. Our innkeeper, John was very friendly and helpful -- even going so far as to show us the best way to polish the rocks we picked up at the nearby beaches. Yummy beakfasts, enjoyable social interaction with other guests during the happy hour with complimentary wine, dips and crackers. The cozy (gas assisted) log fire in our room and nightly snack of delicious freshly made chocolate chip cookies with a cold glass of milk was the ultimate pampering. We would definetly stay there again on any return trips to Cambria.

Great nights sleep, fantastic breakfasts, great hosts and a quiet little town to walk and wander. Will do it again if we pass this way again. Definitely recommendable!

We enjoyed 2 nights of perfect relaxation thanks to the J. Patrick House. Here is a place that actually looks like it does on their website, and the overall experience is exactly as described on their website. Wine tasting at 5pm, a great chance to chat with your fellow guests. With there being less than 10 rooms it always remains a very intimate affair and you quickly find yourself amongst a new group of friends that you would never have met if you had all stayed in a "normal" hotel. Breakfast is decadent and different fayre is prepared fresh for you every morning. It was sheer hell waving goodbye, turning back onto the freeway and having to turn our cell phones on again !

My wife and I spent two nights, primarily so we could visit the Hearst Castle. We flew into San Francisco from the East Coast, and then immediately drove to the J Patrick House. We had a long day, but after a nice dinner at a local restaurant, were very pleased to turn into our extremely comfortable king-sized bed. John, the innkeeper, was a great, personable guy, who was fun to talk with and who loved to share his knowledge of the area. We visited some local wineries in nearby Paso Robles that he had recommended. We were amazed at this beautiful area that we had never heard of. His breakfasts were great, and the milk and thick chocolate chip cookies at night time were just the right decadent touch.

Attention to details was why: from the beautiful little garden; to the windshield cleaning station in the parking lot; to the wine and hors d'oeuvres and meeting other guests; to the cookies and milk at bedtime; to the yummy three course breakfast -- details, details, details and even a wonderful host, too. Thanks J. Patrick

This visit to J Patrick House far exceeded my expectations! It was absolutely BEAUTIFUL! And the service was first class. Oh and of course, the breakfast was delicious and filling in preparation for the day ahead. The milk and cookies were a nice touch to end the evening before heading into the room. My husband and I will be back for sure!

There is too much for me to say about J. Patrick House so i will try to narrow it down. I have been to J. Patrick twice 1) my 1st anniversary and 2)Family x-mas get away. I have also sent 2 other couples for one for a wedding gift and the other for there 5oth wedding(they re-newed there vows). No one has EVER been disappointed. J. Patrick house has great service, food, and rooms. There cookies are the best ever but the one think i love best are the diarys. In each room there are diarys to read not only can you get info of great places to eat but the stories are from the heart. One of these day im going to stay in the main house but we have to much fun enjoy each of the room. The staff is more than attentive to your needs, and the homemade granola is outstanding. Oh i need to go back and never leave. Please stay at J. Patrick house you will not be disappointed in anything they have.

This is a very nice esablishment with very, very small rooms. The breakfasts were outstanding, real food, hot, prepared to order and served to the table. The buildings and grounds are very nice. But the rooms are very small. We went for 4 nights on our honeymoon and the only space to relax is on the bed. The bathroom is adequate, but again, shallow tub and small, nothing to write home about. If you like to relax in a home away from home, this is not the place. If you only want to sleep in the room this is the place.

Booked on the basis of on line reviews. Wonderful experience. Beautiful rooms and grounds. Nice touches included milk & fresh baked cookies before bedtime as well as a wine and cheese get together each evening in the main house where you have the opportunity to meet your fellow travelers. Without exception, I must say that our companions (2 other couples) as well as the other couples in residence thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Rooms were well appointed, clean and comfortable. John (our host) was most engaging and prepared an amazing breakfast. Great value. If you are traveling in the San Simeon, Cambria area, don't miss this place!

Our first experience with a B & B was the Rose Hill Manor in the hillcountry of TX. It was an outstanding place to stay, and hence, the place we compare to every other B & B we stay in. Although, the view at Rose Hill Manor is hard to beat, the J Patrick Inn holds its own in comparison to it. The room was beautiful and had extra touches such as scented shower soap, magazines and books to read, very comfortable pillows, and CD's that played relaxing music. A fire place instead of a TV was an added bonus...much more relaxing. We stayed in the Kilkenny room, and each window had a view of trees (no parking lot, street, etc.) The wine, served each day with crackers and assorted spreads, was a good quality one, and the inch thick homemade chocolate chip cookies laid out each evening were so delicious. We stayed two nights, and each morning we were delighted with the fantastic breadfast served to us. The first morning we were treated to the Inn's homemade granola and yogurt served on fresh fruit and the stuffed french toast they are famous for. Yummy! The second morning, the entree was a vegetable strata and scones, along with the fruit/yogurt/granola combo. Just as yummy! John (a retired fireman) did the cooking and serving, and provided amusing and friendly conversation each morning. We will definitely stay at this B & B again if we are ever in the area.

We stayed in the Clare and in the evening we had the living room to ourselves. This was my husbands first time staying in a B&B, I was unsure if he would like it but he loved it. His only complaint was not having a TV but I showed him there are other things we could do to enjoy our time together. I won him over. Not the standard over-decorated, stuffy B&B. Our room in the back house was very comfortable with full bath. We loved the fireplace; ended up using all the wood provided! Evening wine and appetizers gave us a chance to chat with others and get opinions about the restaurants on town. The breakfast was very good and the grounds beautiful.

We stayed for only one night as this was our first trip to California and we wanted to visit many places on the Pacific coast. We will definitely be back! The wine and appetizer hour gave us a chance to meet the other guests and find out about the area. It is in a great location, easy to reach the Cambria shopping area and Hearst Castle. We were given a great recommendation for dinner (Madeline's was outstanding for food and service). We very much enjoyed the cookies and milk at bedtime and the breakfast was absolutely delicioous. I have stayed at 5 star resorts that couldn't make french toast half as good as this and the homemade granola was awesome. The room was outstanding and we even used the fireplace to take the chill off the evening. I can't think of anything that wasn't top notch. This is not your average B&B.

The people working there were very nice and genuine. The entire town of Cambria was filled with nice people! Cambria was a cute town to visit, and all the cool areas were so close by to visit such as Hearst Castle, SLO, & Morrow Bay. There are great restaurants to check out, good beaches to walk along or surf at. Its a GREAT place to relax, whether with friends or romantic reasons.

Everywhere you will find attention to detail and loving care and it felt like home with excellent cookies left in the evening and piping hot coffee available from 7 in the morning. Of course the breakfasts were excellent. Brian & Bridget

This was our favorite stay out of the 4 total places we stayed at during our honeymoon along CA's central coast. Had all the qualities you hope for in a B&B. We were so comfy (and well fed) at the J. Patrick House. Cambria and surrounding areas were lovely too. --J & J

This is a wonderful B&B. Alissa, Yolanda and John all made us feel very welcome (didn't get to meet Ann!). The bed was very comfortable, the room was pleasant and the fireplace got a workout. The breakfasts were excellent and the afternoon wine and cheese was accompanied by good conversation. Highly recommended.

My two sisters and I spent two mid-week nights at JPatrick House. The daytime was devoted to Hearst Castle but evenings were spent in front of the fireplace in one of our cosy rooms trying to organize our old family photograhps and memorabilia. It was a perfect place for a get together and sharing. The other guests were delightful and we all enjoyed our wine and cheese gatherings. All the staff contributed to our feeling of really being welcome.

Great hospitality and breakfasts. I, however, did not feel that I got what I paid for. Maybe I'm just being a city snob and expected more for a quaint B&B in Cambria.

We really enjoyed our stay in the JPH in August. We liked the hospitality from the first moment, when we were invited for a glass of wine although we arrived late. Our room was beautiful and cozy and we loved the fireplace. Just as we did the breakfast - and the chocolate cookies! So we would love to spend another night there someday!

My husband and I enjoyed another lovely, peaceful, stressless visit at the JPH for our 27th wedding anniversary from 8/15-8/18. I believe this was our 5th visit to the JPH and every visit is as good as the last if not better. The JPH was the first B & B we ever visited and it will be the only one we will stay at for years to come. We really have no desire to stay at any other B & B. We absolutely love the owners/innkeepers, John & Ann and their staff; we feel like we've known them forever. They are such wonderful hosts and always make you feel welcome. We always enjoy the homemade breakfasts, so filling and yummy! My favorite is the Banana Stuffed French Toast which is usually served every Sunday. My husband always looks forward the delicious homemade Chocolate Chip cookies and milk every evening before bedtime, cookies and milk are his favorite. We love everything about the JPH, the rooms, scenery, the town and there are so many good places to eat. We always make reservations at the Sow's Ear for our anniversary dinner and we have never been disappointed! If you have never stayed at a B & B, you have to try the J. Patrick House; I'm sure you'll want to visit again and again.

Lovely staff, quiet and clean, we would certainly stay here again if we get the chance. Room was a bit cozy, but we really liked having the fireplace. Food was very good. Staff was also helpful in answering our questions about what to do or see around town.

J Patrick House house has a wonderfully welcoming environment and its own special atmosphere. We loved the style and charm of the place and the people and particularly enjoyed getting together with other guests over a glass of wine in the evenings. We would recommend this place to anyone!!!! It seems to attract nice people!

Quaint, charming, gardens surrounded property. Warm friendly welcome. Beautiful canopy bed, with comfortable linens. The bathroom was unimpressive needing updating and repairs. The scones were fantastic!!! Lovely presentation for breakfast, but the eggs florentine was spongy and watery as if it were microwaved. Overall a pleasant experience.

This was our first stay at the J Patrick House. We are glad we visited. John was great in showing us around the grounds and rooms. The staff was so friendly and knowledgeable. We truly enjoyed our time at the inn.

My wife and I have stayed at J Patrick twice. Both times have been extremely enjoyable. It's a great place to relax and rejuvenate oneself. Breakfasts are delicious and the chocolate chip cookies are an excellent way to end the day. The ambiance from the fireplace in the room makes it all that more special. We will be back!

My wife and I don't consider ourselves B&B "people. We tend to keep to ourselves.....enjoy quiet time away from stressfull jobs. Lori was our hostess made us feel at home instantly. We enjoyed that evenings wine and cheese gathering and had an excellent dinner in town. To top things off, we had the Clare Room and enjoyed the exclusive rights to the Living Room after 7:00PM. Lori left cookies and milk for us...I made a fire and we enjoyed melting away on the sofa until bedtime. We will be back!!! Greg and Marty Hein

My 9 year old daughter and I really enjoyed our overnight stay at J Patrick. The accommodations were clean, attractive, and the service was great. Favorite things were the fireplace in our room and the fruit with yogurt and granola. Walls were a little thin, so could hear voices in the next room, but all in all, it was a very nice stay.

The host John was very attentive and just a plain old nice guy. We especially enjoyed our breakfast time as John was very entertaning and extremely polite. Thanks again!!! Tom and Phyllis Ritchie P.S. Alyis(sp) was a very good story teller at wine and cheese time and made us feel right at home. TCR

We enjoyed being in the Clare room and having usage of the living room. The inkeepers were great with recommendations for restaurants and things to do in on our trip. What we mostly enjoyed was getting together with the inkeeper and other guest in the evening for wine, cheese and crackers. The conversation was great. Lastly, the three days of breakfast were all delicious and very filling.

Charming little B & B was everything one would imagine. Room was very comfortable with private bath and fireplace. Breakfast served were delicious and not the usual morning fare. As for the chocolate chip cookies... you just have to try them. Guest will NOT be disappointed. Outstanding!

What a great find on this B&B. From the outside it looked average; however, the rooms (which are in a separate house in back) were really nice. A lot of attention paid to little details, bed was extremely comfortable and the fireplace in the room definitely added some ambiance. Wine & cheese in the late afternoon mingling amongst the other guests was fun, but the late night milk & cookies definitely hit the spot. We were on an 8 night stay in CA, started in San Fran. & could only spend one night here. Would highly recommend this place. Worcester, MA

This was one of the best experiences we have ever had at an inn. The room was great, the food was excellent, and the innkeeper was very friendly. We especially enjoyed meeting Lucy the innkeepers adorable bulldog.

What a way to end an otherwise hectic vacation touring California. I returned home totally relaxed and refreshed. The room was lovely, with a fireplace and no TV. Food was deliciously homemade and wine hour was a wonderful way to meet people from so many different backgrounds and places. If we ever go back to California, would definitely want to spend time at The J.Patrick House.

We had a fantastic stay at the J Patrick House on our tour to California. If we´ll visit California again (a tempting idea although California is a bit too far from Finland...), we certainly will come to Cambria and J Patrick House again!

We stayed one night and were very happy with our room, although the sheets had an old blood stain and a hole in the sheet, they were otherwise clean and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was clean and supplied the necessary supplies. The person working at the house that day misinformed us about the shops being open until 9 PM. Only a few shops were open that late, most were closed. Had we known they would be closed, we would not have stayed at the the B&B for wine and cheese. So other than those two minor things, the sheets and misinformation, the place is very nice and we would definitely stay there again, if we go back to Cambria. The breakfast was delicious as were the chocolate chip cookies.

We stayed in the Tipperary Room, a friendly room, where we enjoyed a fire, a glass of wine, and a great night's sleep. The breakfast the next morning was among the most outstanding of our trip. Highly recommended!!!

My Wife and I stayed at the J.Patric House for our 37th anniversary. We have gone there for several anniversary occasions. There have been several owners over the years but Ann & John have taken J.Patrick House to a new level. John is very outgoing and after a while you feel like you have known him all your life. He is an excellent host, cook, and story teller. If your headed to Cambria you owe it to yourself to spend at least one night there. You will be back as often as you can.

This was a great getaway for me and my husband. We have never done this in 8 years and I can not wait for another one. The breakfast was great and the room was comfortable. The place was very peaceful and I was so relaxed which me and my husband really wanted to celebrate our 8 years anniversary with just the two of us in a very peaceful place like this. Thank you.

My wife and I have stayed at the J. Patrick House twice now. This most recent weekend from 7/4-7/06/08 was a celebration of our 1 year wedding anniversary. The location is ideal, less than 1 mile from downtown shopping, great restaurants and less than 4 miles from the picturesque beach. We recommend the "Dublin" room due to the sound of the beautiful fountain located just outside the room. The breakfasts are fantastic, the wine hour is a great icebreaker and very cozy. Robyn's for dinner is an absolute must have! Thanks again John and Ann for making our stay the the JPH fantastic!

What an absolutely wonderful stay. You simply cannot stay stressed while you are up in Cambria staying at the J. Patrick. John’s breakfasts and cookies are delicious and the wine and cheese happy hour is a blast. It was my wife’s and my first time up to Cambria, and we are already trying to figure out dates that we can go back. It is without a doubt, one of the best vacations I have ever been on. THANKS J. PATRICK HOUSE!!!

We stayed in the Clare room which is the only room in the main log house. The room was nice and cozy...however, there were spider webs all over the ceiling and when we opened the window behind the bed to get some air there were all sorts of bugs and webs there as well. Other than that it was a great stay.

My husband and I stayed at the JP House in May of 2008. It was our first vacation as a married couple and it could not have been more perfect. We were recommended the JP House so we went for it and will never stay anywhere else in Cambria! The service, the room, the breakfast, the community, the peacefulness, the surroundings...exquisite! And for the price, a steal! We recommend this place to everyone now and we plan to make it an annual trip for ourselves.

We just celebrated our anniversary with a 4th stay at the J Patrick House. The house and grounds are lovely and very well kept. The breakfasts are just marvelous, with real home-made granola, fresh fruit and delicious entrées. The innkeepers are wonderful hosts, especially John & Ann. And you can't resist the home-made cookies and cold milk at night. We will keep coming back and we recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a quiet, romantic getaway.

Cozy room with clean sheets and a fireplace. Good food too! I'm pretty sure there was a dried flower arrangement. I don't know what the B&B obsession with dried flowers is all about, but if I was in control of the universe I would get rid of all the dusty old dried flower arrangements. Somewhere in the world a compost bin is waiting...
Hi there, We are re-doing our Flower decor! Sorry the existing one's were not to your liking. Sounds like the rest of your stay was great. Glad you liked it. Sincerely, Ann

Loved the location oand the convienence of the location of this B&B, but didn't like eating in our breakfast in the bedroom room. We missed the warm visits with the other guests.
