Located in Cambridge in the historical district, just two blocks from Harvard Yard, our 1897 colonial revival house, designed by architect George Fogerty, is noted for its "simplicity of design and crispness of detail." We have preserved many of its original details. We are just a short "T" ride across the river to Boston. Our rooms are for double or single occupancy with king, queen or twin beds. The tax-free price includes parking, breakfast, afternoon tea and sherry. We have antiques, lace curtains, down pillows, fresh flowers in the room. Breakfast includes homemade bread, homemade jams, and fresh fruit and we make crepes, Belgian waffles or blueberry pancakes for breakfast. The beauty of the outdoors meets the comfort of the indoors in the 16' by 25' space with windows all across the front, large skylights in the cathedral ceiling, and French doors to a private balcony in the trees. The entrance is separate from the main house. There is a queen-size bed; full bookshelves, several chairs and sofas invite work or lounging. The quiet house and historic conservation neighborhood are a few minutes' walk from restaurants, shops, transportation, Harvard Square. For breakfast, we usually place a basket of baked goods and fresh fruit outside the room each morning. The fridge in the room is stocked with milk, juice, butter, and jam. We replenish as needed. A shelf is stocked with coffee and tea. If guests would prefer something different, we welcome requests and try to accommodate all tastes.

The Herbert Carruth House was built around 1877 in one of the first of the garden suburbs of Boston. It is a landmark historic property in the Ashmont section of Dorchester and overlooks one of the loveliest residential streets in Boston. Our property was built in the Second Empire style and is featured in three books on local history. Our transit system, called the MBTA or "T", is an economical alternative to negotiating downtown traffic. The Carruth House is a very convenient 10 minute walk to the Red Line's Ashmont T Station. Downtown Boston is a 15 - 20 minute ride from Ashmont, Harvard Square is 25 minutes, and the fare is US$2 each way. We have limited off-street parking offered first to the party booking the Ashmont Suite and unlimited on-street parking immediately adjacent to the property. We are in the process of restoring Carruth House and continue to add to the amenities in and decoration of our cozy and comfortable guest rooms. The oak panelled Great Room with huge fireplace and regulation-size pool table is is a wonderful addition to our facilities and provides an Event Space for 20 - 30 people. Catering can be arranged. The Samuel Fitch house is a saltbox colonial built in 1711 containing many original features including: six fireplaces, a bee hive oven, smoke room, parsons cabinet, original wide pine floors, and exposed beam ceilings. Guest Rooms in the original section of the house are decorated with antiques. The Garden Suite has antique rope beds, with down comforters and indoor window boxes which boast of year-round blooms. The Fitch Suite has a queen size 4 poster, pencil post bed, beamed ceilings and wonderful antiques. The Carriage House has a mini-kitchen, dining and sitting areas with its own entrance and is also available for long-term stays. The property is located on a beautifully landscaped two-acre wooded lot. Stone walls enclose the back yard and meander through the woods to Nashoba Ski Area located next door. The rolling front lawn offers snow tubing in winter and a picturesque sight in the summer where you can sit under the big ol' tree and sip an ice tea. A brick padio is located under a large old lilac bush and overlooks beautiful herb and flower gardens. A two tiered deck ajoins the Carriage House suite for outdoor privacy.

We ask that you do not smoke in our home. Welcome to Peabody, Mass. We are located 10 minutes from Historic Salem, 25 minutes from Boston, and 25 minutes from our famous Gloucester 'Whale Watching'. We have three bedrooms, two with twin beds and an adjoining bath, and one with a queen bed and shared bath. A full continental breakfast and complimentary coffee or tea is served at all times. During the winter months, we often use our fireplace in the living room.
