Chester A. Arthur House B&B

– Washington,

Make your stay in the Nation's Capitol unforgettable at this large, elegantly restored 19th-century residence right on historic, leafy Logan Circle. This friendly home with stylishly appointed, over-sized guest rooms is situated in walking distance of the best Washington has to offer: the National Mall, the White House and other major government buildings, world-class museums, art galleries, theaters, restaurants, upscale nightclubs, the new Convention Center, and the fabulously popular Spy Museum. It’s at the edge of the city’s main business district. Built for a wealthy undersecretary of the treasury in the Chester A. Arthur Administration, this sprawling 1883 townhouse with mahogany paneled staircase spiraling up three stories and sweeping double parlors is situated directly on historic Logan Circle, overlooking one of city designer Charles Pierre L’Enfant’s “special places.” It has been featured in a Discovery Channel special, on the Logan Circle Victorian Christmas House Tour, and has been the site of many National Geographic Society departmental Christmas parties. Among the home’s features are 11-foot ceilings with heavy plaster crown moldings, matched crystal chandeliers, gilded pier mirrors, fortress-thick walls, and eight fireplaces. Oil paintings along with antiques from the Romanesque Revival, Empire and Eastlake periods grace the generously proportioned rooms.

"The "Outstanding Weekend Getaway""

"Innkeeper Jim Grube was the perfect host for our getaway anniversary weekend. He was able to accommodate a late arrival and special dietary restrictions. The fresh pineapple and berries was a nice culinary touch to the grilled mushrooms over light quiche, accompanied by specially prepared juice. Extra value is their wine tasting in a unique 1700's replica "cottage" atmoshphere and their own line of wines by the label, "Slack." Jim was also most knowledgeable about the history of the property, surrounding areas, and places of interest and dining. To add to the perfect weekend, an eagle came to land overhead, just outside our cottage door! Wood ducks performed an eloquent "disappearing act" as they submerged for their meal in the creek, while simultaneously we enjoyed our breakfast and viewed them through the large window bay. The perfect setting for a quiet piece of "slack time." This first visit convinced us to return again! "
