    Great location!

    November 11, 2009

Having stayed at many B&Bs throughout the world, this one rates as basic. We stayed here in October 2009. The rooms are very basic, just room enough for a bed. The living room is shared with the family so you are living in their house which can be awkward at times when you come back... But the family is REALLY nice and the two sons speak extremely good English. One of them even offered to drive us around Rio for a private tour for 200 Reias, which we accepted (I believe their private driver charges 250) and it was the best thing we did. The tour was customized and if we hadn't stayed here we would have paid much more for it at a travel agency. Also the room was never cleaned in the 4 days we were there, but who cares. The place is an extremely good value and only a block from Ipanema beach. The most important part is that it is in the safest area of Rio, which was of utmost importance to us. Also be sure to book a transfer with them. They have a nice driver ("Junior") who charges a very reasonable rate. He also speaks English and it is quite a relief to step off the plan and see him waiting there for you. The taxis in Rio are questionable at best, so do not risk taking your own taxi from the airport if you can avoid it. Bottom line, if you are looking for a basic place to stay for a very reasonable price, this is totally worth every penny. If you are looking for luxury or comfort though, be ready to pay a lot more money elsewhere.

I cannot forget how great Felipe and Liege were to my girlfriend and I back in November of 2008. The breakfast and hospitality was excellent. The B&B is one block from Ipanema beach and all the Restaurants. At this B&B one can truly experience why they call Rio the marvelous city.

Excellent bed & breakfast, location and family

    April 04, 2009

We stayed at Ipanema Bed & Breakfast in January 2009. We would highlight the excellent breakfast, location, good atmosphere and hospitality of this family-run place. Our room was small, but had enough space for everything we needed (incl. a good bathroom). It was clean and private. We recommend this place to anyone visiting Rio who would like to be next to all major attractions in the center of Ipanema (beach, restaurants, etc.). The family members are always ready to give good tips and advices when asked.

great place to stay in Rio

    February 15, 2009

This was in a very good location- and being with a family in an apartment it really gave one a feel for the way locals live in Ipanema, much friendlier than any hotel, and good value too. Felipe was very helpful in arranging a driver for airport transfers and for sightseeing. The place is small and a little cramped but it was fun, and the breakfasts were very good.

    The Best Breakfasts and Service

    April 01, 2007

We are a couple in our 60's and felt totally at home with this remarkable Brazilian family. Their two young adult children, Rodrigo and Felipe, speak excellent English and are very knowledgeable about sightseeing/things to do in Rio and the surrounding area. Felipe answers his email quickly and was equally quick at accommodating all of our needs. We spent 5 nights with them and their mother's breakfasts were wonderful. In addition to the topical fruits and juices and delicious Brazilian coffee, there were eggs, a variety of meats and chesses and an assortment of breads. We recommend this Bed and Breakfast to anyone who will be staying in Rio. It will enrich your visit much more than staying in a sterile hotel.

Ideal place to stay in Rio

    March 28, 2007

Ipanema Bed and Breakfast is a great place for anyone who is interested in experiencing all that rio has to offer, meeting a wonderful family, and spending their money on more important things than a hotel. My friend and I are graduate students from the US (both age 29). We did not want to completely rough it in a questionable hostel, and we did not want to spend a lot on an impersonal moderate to cheap hotel. A family of four run this bed and breakfast. The two sons (Felipe and Rodrigo) speak fluent English and are always available to answer questions. When I first emailed them, Felipe was quick to respond and answered all of our questions thoroughly. We arrived and his mother promptly served up her famous juice drinks and greeted us as if we were family. The atmosphere is relaxed and the location is perfect. Copacabana (about 2km away) is a scene and worth a visit - but it is seedy, touristy, and has seen its day come and go. Ipanema (and neighboring Leblon) has the BEST beaches (posto 9 and 10 are great), and great shops/restaurants/bars/clubs/etc. It does not have a touristy feel and it is FAR safer. I was warned repeatedly about rio, but never felt in danger. We plan to recommend this bed and breakfast to EVERYONE we know who comes to Rio (regardless of their budget). I guess the only downside would be if you really wanted to sit by a pool all day. We prefer nice beaches, great people, and feeling part of the culture.
