The Parker House is an elegant country guest house located in Confluence, Pa. The town, named for the confluence of the Youghiogheny and Casselman rivers and Laurel Hill Creek, is nestled in the Laurel Highlands region of Western Pennsylvania, about 80 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. The Federal style home, has a front porch view of the Youghiogheny River and the Great Allegheny Passage bike trail. The home was purchased some 50 years ago by the late town doctor. It has been completely restored by local craftsmen and it contains antique oak dressers,chairs, and file cabinets from the old doctor's hospital. Relax on the big front porch after your long bike ride or chase away shivers in front of the field stone fireplace in the livingroom after your romp in the cold mountain-fed rivers. Or, select a book, mazagine or game from the walnut bookshelves in the library. The new sunroom/conference room comfortably seats 30 people. It is appropriate for family gatherings or relaxing business retreats. The hand-turned spindles on the new oak staircase leads you upstairs to seven bedrooms with queen sized beds. The historic Old Shot Factory is a well-known landmark on Lincoln Highway (Route 30), still surrounded by forest and flanked by a mountain stream. Situated on Forbes Trail, George Washington led the Virginia Militia past the site of the Old Shot Factory as he ascended the steep slope through Rohr's Gap on the eastern front of the Allegheny Mountain in 1758 during the French and Indian War. The Old Shot Factory is named for the manufacture of ammunition for the early settlers. During the 1800's, the Old Shot Factory served as a tavern and inn for pioneers and stagecoach passengers.
