Charm of a time past and contemporary comfort close to the city center (20' walk to Grand Place) Ideally located near the heart of the city (a mere 20 minutes promenade to the historical Grand'Place), and close to the MADOU Metro station, the "70 Traversiere" is a 1850 bourgeois house offering you the charm of a time past and comtemporary comfort. Breakfast is served in our gorgeous dining room at about any time. Set breakfast time only happens if the total of guests outnumbers the seating facility (8). Cash payment only as we do not take credit cards nor cheque. Besides our B&B rooms (all with private bathrooms) the house also holds 3 student rooms, sharing a bathroom and a kitchen. They sometimes are available in B&B mode, at a lower rate. Get in touch for any special requirements, we might well meet them.

My husband and I very much enjoyed our stay at this B&B. It has a really beautiful charm and the room we had was absolutely gorgeous. The whole interior of the the building is just beautiful. The B&B was pretty centrally located. It was just about a 10 minute walk from downtown Brussels which was something that was really important for us. It made it easy to go out and site see on foot. Our only real complaints are that the shower wasn't capable of running warm water-it was either hot or cold, therefore we had to take baths instead of showers. Also-for breakfast we were served fresh juice, coffee and bread with jam/other spreads. If the breakfast could have been a little more substantial, that would have been nice.

While my husband and I agree with many of the positive comments that have been made about 70 Traversiere B&B, we had a negative experience which negated anything positive that we could have possibly added. We were traveling with our 10-year-old granddaughter and had made detailed and specific arrangements with the innkeeper, Jeanine, via email, for a particular room which would accommodate the 3 of us with 2 separate full beds in 2 adjoining parlors: the Baldaquin Room on the 2nd level. When we arrived we paid cash in advance for a "split booking" where we would stay a number of days, depart to do a week of travel in France & Italy, and return to Brussels for one night before our early-morning flight back to the States. When the first part of our stay was complete, we removed all of our belongings from the room, were assured that our room would be awaiting us upon our return, said our goodbyes, and left for the airport. A week later, the afternoon before our return to Brussels I, by chance, happened to check my email and discovered a message from Jeanine stating that the Baldaquin room, which we had prepaid for, had been booked to another party for 4 nights! She went on to say that the only room that was available that would have an extra bed for our granddaughter was the "Attique" Room. My husband and I are both seniors and I have a heart condition. The Baldaquin Room was on the 2nd level, but the Attique was at the top of the house on the 5th level and up 7 flights of stairs. Our granddaughter's "bed" was a cot. Since we had returned late at night there was no time to find other accommodations, so we were stuck. Jeanine never offered us a refund, a discount, an explanation or an apology. We will never again stay at 70 Traversiere, nor can we ever recommend that anyone else stay there. It was a terrible way to end what would have been a perfectly lovely trip.

All in all, I enjoyed my stay at this b&b. I reckon the place has the absolutely craziest interior I have ever seen anywhere :) And this is, I think, can be both a good and a bad thing, depending on your sense of humor. Personally I enjoy all that kitchy stuff, so I found it just wonderful with all these crazy objects all over the place. The room alone was bigger than my own flat, and the private bathroom was huge, too, so at least you get enough space! The only thing to complain about was that you couldn't lock the door, which made me a bit susceptible about leaving my property there (nothing got stolen, though). The breakfast was very simple, a bit of a disappointment. But despite some bad sides, I would stay there again and recommend it to my friends!
3.4 out of 5I'd recommend this to my friends

We were both a bit disappointed when we arrived as the street is quite dark and gloomy but our room was lovely and light, Jeanine is charming and very helpful, the bed comfortable (even for my husband who's 6ft4) and in fact the area is handy for transport and the Botanical Gardens (and the bar there) are lovely. I'd recommend this B&B to my friends

October 09, 2008
A strange b&b. stayed in attick room, lots of stairs. no room key but place to attach own padlock and a chain for the inside. shower water pressure was great. floor sloped a bit which was strange. but at this price 69EUR it was good. rather charming.
4.0 out of 5Great place to stay
September 16, 2008
My partner and I enjoyed our stay here. Our room was huge! Our room, and the entire house for that matter, had a 'period' feel to it, like walking into a movie. Jeanine was very helpful as well. Would definately stay there again.
3.0 out of 5Convenient location, adequate accommodations
August 16, 2008
We checked in before noon after an overnight flight; while our room was ready, the backyard was being excavated and jackhammered all day, which made it impossible to try to nap for a couple hours. The room itself was fine (large double bed and a fold-out sofa; private bath); however breakfast both days was exceptionally ordinary (juice, rolls and croissants, jam, coffee). We don't speak French, so Jeanine was very accommodating to call a taxi to get us to the train station on Sunday morning.
