About

The John Lewis House was built in 1900 by master cabinetmaker John Lewis, who came to Victoria from Wales in the late 1890s. Evidence of his craft can be seen throughout the house, especially in the ornate mantelpiece and decorative woodwork in the living room as well as in the wood-panelled vestibule. We’re located a short walk from downtown and also the U.S. ferry terminals (Coho to Port Angeles, Victoria Clipper to Seattle).

Wonderful stay at John Lewis B&B

5 on August 11, 2014

Bob & Becky are amazing hosts-very personable and welcoming! The rooms are clean and comfortable and the B&B is very conveniently located only a 15 minute walk from downtown Victoria. The breakfasts are amazing and there was no trouble accommodating my egg allergy.

Excellent B&B with great breakfast

5 on August 10, 2014

We stayed in the John Lewis House for three nights and totally enjoyed our stay with Becky and Bob. They make you feel welcome from the first minute you arrive. The rooms are on the upper floor and both have a private bathroom. Both, the room and the bathroom, were very clean. The bed is comfortable and we slept well in every single night. The shower is at a pitch of the roof, so people of high size might have it difficult to stand in it but for us it was no problem at all. Everyday, a small fruit basket is refilled with organic fruits and chocolate. The breakfast was great. It contains homemade granola, fresh fruits and yoghurts, homemade marmelade and bread and everyday another delicious warm speciality cooked by Becky. One of the highlights are the freshly baked muffins. If you're not able to eat them because of the other delicious food, you can take them for later. :) Becky and Bob are happy to make your stay as comfortable as they can and give you advises on where to eat and what to see. We had a really nice stay there and enjoyed pottering around in the beautiful town of Victoria. ;-) We would totally recommend the John Lewis House to everyone who considers a stay in Victoria, not only because of the nice rooms, but also because of the lovely owners! We hope to come back again there one day!

Hard to beat

5 on August 02, 2014

This place is going to be hard to beat for the rest of our holiday. The location is excellent. Walking distance to parks, the water and downtown. The room & bed were superb. The washroom super clean. And the breakfasts... My goodness! There was no sacrifice on quality for quantity. Becky and Bob were fantastic hosts and have us plenty of tips of what to see and do without being intrusive or pushy at all. We highly recommend staying here.

amazing!

We spent three lovely days at the John Lewis House, and I must say, Becky & Bob made the stay amazing :) From the delicious breakfasts, to the extra comfy beds and great location, the whole stay really exceeded my expectations. The place has a lot of charm being an old heritage house, and its not a far walk to all the tourist things in down town Victoria. Ogden point where the cruise ships doc, and Fisherman's wharf with the floating houses are also just a short walk away. I just need to add one warning for those with large vehicles, parking may be an issue. I didn't think about it beforehand, but we drive a big truck, and trying to find street parking would have been a nightmare! Luckily we were able to use the parking pad at the house, phew! Thanks for the great stay guys!

Victoria perfection

5 on July 21, 2014

John Lewis House is a lovingly restored residence in the old part of town. Pleasant rooms , excellent breakfasts, and friendly hosts. Very easy 15 minute walk to the harbor and all the attractions. Becky and Bob performed an act of true kindness. We had left our fleece jackets in our room and had written them off. Our hosts, remembering where we were staying on our last night in Vancouver arranged for their son to drop them off. You can't beat that!

Perfect in every way

If you like B&Bs you will love the John Lewis House. We couldn't have asked for a nicer stay - great location, great breakfast and great people. Just perfect for us.

Not well maintained old building

According to the pictures we had high expectations, and unfortunately we were disappointed because the rooms and the furniture is outdated

Innkeeper Response
Thank you for your feedback. We’re disappointed you did not like our B&B but would like to point out that our home is a heritage house and we aim to keep furniture and rooms in keeping, as much as possible, with the age of the house. Having said that, of course the beds and bathrooms are modern – and we do work hard to keep the house well maintained!

Welcoming experience.

I do love a good B & B and Victoria has some of the best. My recent stay at John Lewis House was further proof. Wonderful, friendly, accommodating hosts are absolutely essential and Bob and Becky were that and more. The house is lovely, has a great location just mins walk from Cook St. Village, Beacon Hill Park and downtown Victoria. My room was well appointed and cozy with a lovely comfy bed and linens. There were lots of little extras to make my stay enjoyable and delicious breakfasts awaited me in the morning. There are only two rooms for travellers, so book ahead - you won't be disappointed.

Charming B&B with wonderful hosts and breakfast

4.8 on June 28, 2014

I was a little hesitant to stay at a place with only two rooms, but I couldn't have been more wrong. This is a wonderful B&B. The hosts are warm, friendly, and highly knowledgable about activities in the area. It is located just a couple blocks from the beach which has an amazing view of the Olympics across the water. The breakfast was delicious. It included homemade granola, fresh coffee and tea, toast with homemade jams, lots of fresh fruit, a special egg dish each day (try the stuffed crèpe!) and homemade muffins. It's enough food for breakfast and lunch. It's located a short (~15 minute) walk from the ferry and downtown.
