John Lewis House

58 Government Street , Victoria, BC V8V 2K3 Canada (Show map)

The John Lewis House was built in 1900 by master cabinetmaker John Lewis, who came to Victoria from Wales in the late 1890s. Evidence of his craft can be seen throughout the house, especially in the ornate mantelpiece and decorative woodwork in the living room as well as in the wood-panelled vestibule. We’re located a short walk from downtown and also the U.S. ferry terminals (Coho to Port Angeles, Victoria Clipper to Seattle).

John Lewis House, Victoria BC

5 on November 09, 2015

This wonderful two-bedroom bed and breakfast was a real find for our recent stay in Victoria. Becky and Bob are friendly and knowledgeable. Their breakfasts were outstanding. The compact queen-bedded rooms are spotless. The location is quiet but close to downtown. And the price is more than reasonable. You'll be happy here. NMR, Kimberley BC, Nov 9, 2015.

Cozy and Quaint

Close to the park, the shoreline path, and an easy walk to the harbor. Comfortable and clean with a gourmet breakfast. Friendly and helpful hosts. Would definitely return.

A Great Place to Stay

I highly recommend the John Lewis House B&B. Becky and Bob are excellent proprietors. The room was nice and clean. The bed was comfortable. Becky is a wonderful cook. The breakfast she served of oatmeal, eggs, muffins and fresh fruit was exceptionally delicious. Overall a very peaceful and relaxing place to stay.

Happy in the neighborhood close to the center of town

Enjoy staying in historic home, 15 minutes walk from the center of town. Endearing hosts, immaculate room and bath. Typical for the period of house, the rooms are small, but workable.

Wonderful Hosta

We had a wonderful time staying in the John Lewis House. This charming old Victoria house is in a quiet neighborhood, only 10 – 15 minutes walk to downtown Victoria and 5 minutes walk to the coastal path and amazing views. Our room (upstairs) was cozy and comfortable with a bowl of fruits and chocolate in the room. The bathroom is private (not en-suite) and located next to the room. Downstairs there is a living room with TV, books, guides and maps which guests are welcome to enjoy. Bob and Becky are wonderful hosts. They made us feel at home and they were very helpful giving us local knowledge and advice. They prepared delicious home-cooked breakfast each morning. Becky packed us her superb homemade muffins for the road, and we always picked the best scenery to enjoy them.

Helpful hosts, wonderful location, cosy bed

I don't know what was better...the breakfast which included homemade items like muffins and jam; the location, a 10 minute walk to the parliament buildings yet when you step outdoors you feel you're in a quiet seaside town; or the bed, which was really, really comfortable after a long day walking. In addition, Becky and Bob went out of their way to suggest places to go and provide information. I'd definitely stay here again.

Excellent hosts, food and location; very highly recommended

Becky and Bob were great hosts: welcoming, friendly, gave good recommendations of what to visit or where to eat, generous with their time and gave the best breakfasts we had on Vancouver Island during our two week stay. The location of their century old home was within walking distance to most attractions which we appreciated. The breakfasts included home-made granola, home-made jams, great fresh fruit salads, home-made muffins and ascrumptuous main dish such as a spinach and cheese omelet.

Wonderful visit

Enjoyed three lovely nights at this B&B. Becky and Bob made me feel like an old friend and becky's breakfast is great. Lovely, older character home which is perfect for Victoria. Well situated only a couple of minutes walk from the scenic drive and paths and fifteen from the harbour and all the sights there. Highly recommended.

Wonderful stay at John Lewis B&B

Bob & Becky are amazing hosts-very personable and welcoming! The rooms are clean and comfortable and the B&B is very conveniently located only a 15 minute walk from downtown Victoria. The breakfasts are amazing and there was no trouble accommodating my egg allergy.

Excellent B&B with great breakfast

We stayed in the John Lewis House for three nights and totally enjoyed our stay with Becky and Bob. They make you feel welcome from the first minute you arrive. The rooms are on the upper floor and both have a private bathroom. Both, the room and the bathroom, were very clean. The bed is comfortable and we slept well in every single night. The shower is at a pitch of the roof, so people of high size might have it difficult to stand in it but for us it was no problem at all. Everyday, a small fruit basket is refilled with organic fruits and chocolate. The breakfast was great. It contains homemade granola, fresh fruits and yoghurts, homemade marmelade and bread and everyday another delicious warm speciality cooked by Becky. One of the highlights are the freshly baked muffins. If you're not able to eat them because of the other delicious food, you can take them for later. :) Becky and Bob are happy to make your stay as comfortable as they can and give you advises on where to eat and what to see. We had a really nice stay there and enjoyed pottering around in the beautiful town of Victoria. ;-) We would totally recommend the John Lewis House to everyone who considers a stay in Victoria, not only because of the nice rooms, but also because of the lovely owners! We hope to come back again there one day!
