My husband and I stayed at The Empress for the last night of our honeymoon and we loved it! The whole facility was gorgeous and had a wonderful Victorian feel, just the kind of thing my husband and I like. We stayed in the Majestic, which was wonderful and perfect for us at the time. The breakfast was unique and absolutely delicious, as well. Service was fantastic and we truly felt welcome. We can't wait to go back again someday!

We absolutely loved staying at the Empress. It was a beautiful place, well maintained and the service was excellent. I would highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates the Victorian era.

At the last minute we decided to spend the Memorial weekend at Hot Springs National Park. The Empress was available at a very reasonable price even with the last minute reservation. We enjoyed the Hot Springs, and had the pleasure of soaking in the natural springs bath, ate at Mr Whiskers, a diner joint famous for its down-to-earth (or I should say down-to-mud) fried cat fish (no mud taste at all), and drove up to the Empress for the stay. We had a lovely room. Clean, quiet, and decorated with the fine Victorian style furniture and setting. The inn keeper was nice, friendly, and gave us advices on the local dining options. The next day I went out for a lovely morning run -- it was three miles from the Inn to across the Arkansas River by the Main or the Junction Bridge, then followed the River Trail to return from another one of the 6 bridges. The 9 mile run gave me a good appetite for the breakfast, which was delicious. We then took a Segway tour of the city downtown, allowing me to re visit some of the routes I had run earlier in the morning, and scout out the new route I would run the next day. All in all, we enjoyed our weekend trip, of which the stay at the Empress was a big part.

Staying in the carriage house was the best of both worlds - we could enjoy the rooms out there but come into the main house for a lovely breakfast.

Our stay was nice, but I guess we were expecting alittle more. The pictures look good but in person our room seemed liked it needed to be freshed up. It was very clean and the bed slept great. I feel they could have incorporated some modern technologies to the rooms . Awesome collection of antiques !

Very welcoming. As a business woman, I feel safer in a B&B. This was my first stay at the Empress and I will be back! I just hope they are serving the Peach Breakfast Soup and Orange Oatmeal Pie when I return!!

My husband and I stayed at the Empress to celebrate our wedding anniversary, as well as one last night out before our first child arrives (a babymoon). We walked in to the most wonderful smell of fresh homemade sweet rolls in the oven and was given a tour of the house by a very welcoming in-keeper. The Petit Jean room we stayed in was beautiful! The room had journals that each guest can write about their experience there, they had years of visitors that were fun to read. There was complimentary Amaretto and also a keurig coffee maker and a jar of snacks to go with. The grounds were beautiful, we enjoyed just sitting out on the porch swing they have. The breakfast the next day was a delight! White gloved butler and all. Highly recommended!!

My husband & I really enjoyed our stay at the Empress. The staff and owners were very hospitable and welcoming. The attention to detail on everything was fabulous-from personalized toiletries, turn down service, complimentary Amaretto cordials and a 2 course gourmet breakfast with our very own white-gloved butler. Visiting the Empress was a wonderful experience that we highly recommend to anyone who wants a top notch Bed & Breakfast experience.

The complimentary items are what sealed the deal for this place to be the standard to go by. The coffee bars were outstanding as well as the complimentary mugs, amorretto and robes. Cannot recommend this place enough!!

This was our first time staying at The Empress, & it was PERFECT! For Christmas I had given my husband tickets to a show at The Rev Room. Since we normally stay at boutique hotels & LR is slim pickins' on those, I had given him a few options for mainstream hotels with acceptable reviews. I assumed he had picked from that list. In fact, he did NOT! I had no idea where we were staying until we pulled in front of THE EMPRESS! I was in love at first sight, from the beautifully restored exterior to the unbelievable parquet floors in the entry. The hostess treated us like royalty. It was like stepping into the charm of Victorian era. The room was so comfy with buttery soft sheets. Since we were attending a concert & wouldn't be in until late, we opted out of breakfast so that we could sleep in. When we stay here again, I will NOT allow myself to escape that experience. We had a PERFECT overnight trip & have found our new LR getaway bed & breakfast!

My husband and I stayed in the Hemingway spa suite last Friday night for our anniversary. The room is absolutely beautiful and it was a real treat. The spa amenities were very relaxing after an evening out in downtown Little Rock. We ordered the breakfast with butler service which was a fun addition. We will definitely be back!

We did our research on Bed and Breakfast's all around Arkansas and even into Oklahoma. Ya'll... there is NOTHING that compares to the Empress. This place is beautiful, the staff is friendly and the entire vibe matches that of the Victorian era. The food has rarities like Fig Soup from fresh Fig trees in the back yard and homemade pastries. Breakfast in Bed is amazing and a super cool Butler comes in to serve you dressed just like a butler and all. Deborah is the nicest hosts and will get you as much coffee as you need and make sure you're stock through the night if need be. She know all the amazing history behind the house and that's worth asking her about. The rooms are legitimately as cool as the pictures and in some cases better and bigger. The amenities are more luxurious than you may think. The showers are equipped without baths, essential oils and high powered massage jets. It was very fun exploring the house and seeing all the rooms and trinkets and drinking coffee on the huge wrap-around porch. If for any reason you need a change of pace you can always head out into Littlerock and do pretty much anything. So you can get a perfect taste of Victorian age and modern day luxuries around the corner. There is no better B & B than the Empress anywhere near here, unless you want to be stuck in the early 90's with out awesome food, service and an incredible house. Don't waste your time with those. Go to the Empress and have an awesome time.

My husband got us a suite in this hotel the night we got married. It was honestly the best hotel I've ever been to. I wish we would have got there earlier. Everything in our room was high quality. Everything was very clean and placed in the proper place. The next morning they brought us breakfast to our room. It was very romantic. I wish I lived in Little Rock so I can go there every weekend!! It is definately worth the few hundreds bucks.

We were really looking forward to staying at the Empress, near the end of our trip through the South. After staying in other amazing places along the way, this place was distinctly underwhelming. When we arrived the innkeeper was very friendly and hospitable. But the long explanations of what we were not allowed to do were a little insulting. I'm not sure if everyone is instructed that ironing should be done on the ironing board rather than the bed. I would probably save that for children. The notices placed around the place were similarly off-putting. Don't touch the thermostat. Don’t roll your suitcase down the steps. While it can help to provide instructions, word them to show people what they should do, rather than what they shouldn’t do. I felt like I was being told off. We stayed in the Victoria's Garden Suite, which was cute, but dated. That would be ok if it was clean, and priced accordingly. This place claims to be boutique and luxury, and I do not object to the price tag that comes with that, but with that price tag comes standards, that this place just didn't meet. It also felt a little corporate for a boutique B&B. I don't want signs in my bedroom about what I can buy in the gift shop. It's tasteless. Also tasteless was the self-congratulatory bio of the owners, in a laminated folder in our room. It's nice to learn about people's lives. But this was more like a history of the owners' climbing the AT&T corporate ladder. We also briefly used the whirlpool in our room (after reading the instructions (!)) only to discover an unsightly scum and dead ants across the bubbling water. Ew. It's hard to criticize this place because they really do smother you with their Southern hospitality. I've read their defensive responses to the (few) negative reviews, and I hope this is taken as a constructive criticism, rather than insinuating that I am "slamming" the place for a "difference in taste" or that I didn't read the website properly.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention, although I wish I'd known before you left. This is absolutely unacceptable. In our 20 years in business we've never had such a complaint. We use a special cleaner for the jacuzzi jets, and provide a special oil, free to guests to keep them clear. My staff house manager takes great pride in her work at the Empress and none of us can imagine what happened to cause this. We have refunded your gratuity. The ants, however, are a force of nature and since we've had so much rain this spring, have decided they like the warm coziness of that part of our inn. We've sprayed regularly, as evidenced by the fact they were dead, but they have declined our invitation to leave. We definitely missed a couple, and feel badly they found their way into your tub. I too, would find that disconcerting. Mea Culpa'. And I apologize that we have to remind people to not iron on the expensive sheets and not roll their suitcases up our irreplaceable heart pine historic stair steps. But the lack of paint on the back steps to the building must speak to you regarding this necessity. We didn't have this problem several years ago and I don't know what's changed. I'm open to your thoughts. However, we don't have signs saying don't touch the thermostats. I'm at a loss on that one. As for dated? Guilty-1930's. The pictures on the website accurately reflect the decor'. Sometimes you have to admit a mistake and try harder next time. Objective criticism is welcome. Critique of personal taste is, well, personal. Different strokes for different folks. We're an historic inn and we struggled and barely nearly didn't open. That's our story, and we're sticking to it. We hope you'll come back so we can do better for you next time.

As a surprise for me, my fiancé booked the Empress hotel for our wedding night. He also made sure to get the chocolate package. The hotel was decorated so beautifully (it was during Christmas) and the chocolates waiting for us were delicious. It was an experience neither of us will ever forget!

While traveling across the country for business, I always opt for a more personal touch than traditional hotels. Well - The Empress of Little Rock was a true gem in every facet. Awe inspiring architecture and design, old world feel and a touch of modern amenities. Hands down the most professional presentation I have ever received by the Empress Staff. The ability to engage and admire the stunning 7,200 sqft mansion was a nice break at night. Full reign of the home, not just your 'room'. Truly a great staff, fantastic breakfast and unmatched customer service. I cannot wait to return to Little Rock and the Empress!

My husband and I spent two nights at The Empress and loved it. Entering The Empress is like stepping back into time. What a beautiful historical place. The staff was super helpful and friendly. They took an interest in our activities and even printed out directions and information for our day trip. Debra worked with my dietary needs and we had a super breakfast. I wish we lived closer!!

When I first found the website for the Empress it looked wonderful. Hoping that the pictures were up to date was a concern. Well, the pictures do not do this wonderful grand lady justice. It is truely a magical place. Perfect. Each room is exactly as pictured if not better in person. The staff is top notch. Deborah and Lisa were fantastic. The type of ladies you hear about but very often never meet. The food is out of this world. I have never had apple soup, pumpkin puff pancakes and the butternut squash pie is awesome. We enjoyed each and every minute of our visit. Beds were so comfortable. Rooms are really large. Its charming, clean and MAGICAL!! Thanks for keeping this grand old lady up and loving her. This would be worth the trip just for a weekend

The Empress was our first B&B experience and I'm so glad we stayed! When we arrived we were greeted with a huge welcome and felt right at home. All of the ladies exuded Southern Hospitality. The parlors and Victorian décor of the empress was incredible. When I saw our room, the Petit Jean Suite, it was full of light and looked so cozy. VERY CLEAN AND LUXURIOUS. After settling in, my husband and I toasted with a glass of complimentary Amaretto and relaxed in our seating area. When we were ready for dinner, the night attendant called us a cab and we made a short trip to Downtown Little Rock. Breakfast the next morning made us feel like true royalty- we feasted on Grand Marnier French Toast, fresh fruit and an incredible peach soup de jour. We purchased the souvenir coffee mug to celebrate our fabulous stay at the beautiful Empress!! We will making reservations for another stay soon!

Our stay at The Empress was as passers-through. My husband and I stayed in the Washburn-Welch Room for one night. This place is gorgeous, and full of history and stories! It is quiet and peaceful, and warm and welcoming. We didn't get the privilege of meeting Bob and Sharon, but the hostess Deborah was absolutely a joy! The Empress goes above and beyond the necessary and ensures the stay to be much more than expected! The rooms in the Carriage House may be a little more updated, if that is your preference, but if you want genuine, rich character, you should definitely stay in the main house! Breakfast was a spectacular experience! Deborah served us with the fanciest breakfast either of us has ever had. The Grand Marnier French Toast was scrumptious, and we both learned we enjoy fresh sliced figs (from their own beautiful fig tree there on the property)! Since we were the only guests that night, a candlelight breakfast was served for just us! The gardens are not to be missed! Beautiful, well-cared for grounds, full of flowers and greenery, is the place to relax and feel like you're miles away from the hustle and bustle of life! The Empress was built as, and yet remains, a beloved home, full of warmth and love. You won't regret a visit!

Everywhere you turn there's a bit of history creating a feeling that you have truly gone back in time to a relaxing time, to a time where the cares of today don't matter and are replaced with pure joy and satisfaction. The service was great and food was so good it should be called a Bed & Experience.

If your drawn to the 19th and early 20th century you will not want to miss this gem. Relax in the parlor to the beautiful music that is always playing quietly in the back ground, or sit a spell on the veranda as you listen to the sweet sound of the fountain. The swing in the yard was reminisct of one I remember from childhood. Delight your senses and stay at the Empress and enjoy the butler at breakfast, your host.

There was no thing that I did not love about Little Rock, AK. The Empress at Little Rock also lived up to its name, as the most charming bed and breakfast. We had a great stay at the Empress of Little Rock. Our only regret is that we could not stay longer. We stayed in the Petit Jean room, decorated with a nautical flair. It was a quiet and comfortable room. Cordials were provided, and coffee, tea, cocoa, and snacks were available in the upper foyer. Everything about the Inn breathes of welcoming comfort. The grounds are beautifully maintained, and the "Secret Garden" is treasure not to be missed. The breakfast was delicious and filling. The service was outstanding, and the staff friendly and courteous. We will definitely make the Empress our home away from home when we next find ourselves in Little Rock!

For a young couple's first bed and breakfast experience, the Empress experience will be hard to top. We were greeted upon arrival and immediately felt relaxed and at ease in the Victorian era home. Our room (the Victoria's Irish Garden) was wonderful with the beautiful painting above the bed and the romantic garden themes throughout. We took advantage of the spa shower with the aromatic oils and the double bathtub with jacuzzi jets after a night on the town at the river market. Breakfast the next morning was very tasty and quite the dining experience with unique food items including a delicious cream of apple soup, fresh fruit, and a breakfast pie among other items. The innkeepers were very nice and helped to make our experience even better. Overall, we were very pleased with the entire stay and will certainly return in the future.

The Empress of Little Rock was the most beautiful, awe-inspiring place I have ever stayed at. Over the course of my lifetime, I have stayed at several 5-star hotels, but they pale in comparison. It was the first place I have ever stayed at that felt alive to me—like it wanted to interact with us. On our bedside table were journal entries written by other guests who had stayed at The Empress, sharing their own wonderful experiences. I wish I had had more time to read every single one of those. It was the first place that I did not just consider a place to crash at after a long day exploring the city. It was a place that I wanted to take in. I did not want to go to sleep at night so I could have more time to enjoy its’ beauty. There was so much to see—this building was overflowing with heartwarming secrets. If there is one thing we could have done differently, it would have been to stay in and take in the beauty of The Empress while we still had time, because two nights was not enough for us. I was nearly in tears when it was time for check-out. We will definitely be back in the near future. It left a lasting, positive impression on both of our hearts. It has been over two weeks since we left, and the awe that it left us with has not dissipated. We still talk about it every day. Service was fantastic. Our breakfasts were so refreshing, filling and delicious. Our room was beautiful and had we were met with complimentary sparkling wine, chocolates, and amaretto for our sipping pleasure. I highly recommend The Empress to everyone, and the room we stayed in, the Washburn-Welch, is my new cover picture on Facebook! The picture on The Empress’ site, though beautiful, does not do it justice. It has to be experienced in person. It was my first time in Arkansas, and of the 24 states I have explored thus far, Arkansas has been my favorite all thanks to the experience I had during my too-short stay at The Empress. Thank you so much, Bob, Sharon, and Lisa.

We stayed for 3 nights in the Chatelaine Anniversary suite and found it to be very comfortable. The Empress is so beautiful and has been restored with every detail to take you back in time. There are so any beautiful antiques but still all the conveniences that make it comfortable. This room has a very large bathroom and separate dressing area. It also has a large walk in closet. I am not sure what the review before was referring to about no comfortable place to sit, as my husband found the rocking chair very comfortable for both reading and watching TV. We did suggest some softer and fluffier pillows for sleeping. Our breakfasts we beautifully prepared and presented. Lisa was very friendly and took us on a tour of all the rooms. This was helpful, as I know we will want to return and stay again. Kudos to the owners/inn keepers on giving us such a lovely place to stay. M&M of Lansing, Mich.

This was mine and my wife's first time at a B&B. This is an experience of a life time that will always be in our minds because of the memories we created together. It was a special weekend since it was for her birthday but I enjoyed it just as much as she did. We would recommend this fine establishment to anyone who is looking for a get away but close to the historical area of the city.

I planned this as a local get-a-way for the day after Valentine's day. Being asked about anniversary dates on arrival (I guess she ASSumed everyone was married) made for some VERY awkward and embarrassing moments. I had asked to have our breakfast in our room and asked for the chocolate dipped strawberries and wine. $99 bucks for some soggy strawberries coated so thick with chocolate and hazelnuts that you couldn't take a bite without half of the chocolate falling off the strawberry. NOT very good. Certainly not worth $100.00. There was no place to sit, relax and watch the fire (fake electric) or TV together because they put the table (and one chair) in the room for breakfast before we even got there. There was seriously only one wing chair and a bed with a saggy netting canopy and 2 real pillows with a bunch of decorative pillows. It was one of the most uncomfortable nights I have ever spent. The tub was a plastic replica and not a very good one. The shower was nice. The next morning, The breakfast was a diabetic coma in the making. Sugar and fat. My Cousin owned a bed and breakfast in Virginia. She always made sure breakfast was more than just pastries. She had a beautiful hearty breakfast every morning for her guests. Eggs were always a part of her breakfasts. Your's was sugar, more sugar and fat. The small ball of sausage was nice, but in no way balanced the meal. What do y'all do if your guest is a diabetic? I felt I wated a lot of money when I left.. NOT what I expected at all. I was very disappointed.

My girlfriend and I ventured to Little Rock for a romantic getaway on Valentine's Day weekend. We googled a variety of hotels and B&Bs, and were fortunate enough to stumble upon the Empress of Little Rock. We knew instantly that we wanted to stay here. I will tell you that the pictures on their web site, as good as they are, don't do them justice. This place (built back in the late 1800s and filled with charm and history) is simply amazing. The attention to detail is incredible. We were simply blown away by every part of the experience from the friendliness of the staff, to the grandeur of the buildings, to the modern conveniences - no, luxuries... we stayed in the Majestic Suite and had not only a jacuzzi tub, but also a hydrotherapy shower and steam room... all put to good uses. We loved the Valentine's Day dinner - would give it 5 stars. The breakfasts each morning were equally impressive. If we ever return to Little Rock, I have zero doubt that we will return. Do yourself a favor, forget other B&Bs and book your next holiday at the Empress.

This was me and my wife's first time staying at a bed and breakfast. We will definitely stay again. We stayed in the Petit Jean suite. It was amazing because it was nautical themed. The breakfast was amazing both mornings. We even purchased a cook book to try the recipes at home. I made the apple cream soup. It was not as good as the Empress but it was something I would have never tried or made if we had not stayed. I would highly recommend staying and exploring downtown Little Rock.

Wish we could have stayed longer! We were travelling through the area and decided we needed to feel restored. And we were. We stayed in the carriage house and soaked in the tub and used the steam room. What a treat for the road weary. One day is not enough. The bed was very comfortable, the breakfast elegant and we were so pleased to have the beautiful Christmas decorations still up. Everyone was gracious and made us feel like VIPs. A treat that was worth every penny.

We stayed at The Empress of Little Rock for my birthday in September. I couldn't have asked for a more wonderful experience! My husband treated me to the one -hour horse drawn carriage ride through the historic district which we thoroughly enjoyed. We also opted for the breakfast in our room the next morning which was served by candlelight with white glove service. The food was superb and the service was impeccable. If we are ever in the Little Rock area again, we will definitely stay at the Empress!

The Empress of Little Rock is hands down the most beautiful victorian mansion I have ever seen. It is impeccably decorated and exquisitely presented. The owner and staff are warm, friendly and very helpful. Every thing about the room was excellent. Food was the best I had been served in a B&B even though they had to work around my food allergies. I would highly recommend these accomodations to anyone.

The house is ideal, the owners are so gracious & their employees are so friendly & informative. Their food is delicious & served in the elegant dining room. One certainly must sit awhile in the secret garden & enjoy the peace. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Can't wait to return. Molly & Bill

My husband and I went out fr dinner and returned and our sheets were back woth rose petals. The next morning an excellent breakfast was prepared. It was a dream!!!!

We had an amazing stay. It was romantic and far surpassed our expectations. From the moment you step inside you are treated like royalty. The decor is spectacular and very well thought out. Our meal was delightful and delicious. No detail was left out. We took an evening carriage ride that we highly recommend. We look forward to our next visit. Thank you Bob and Sharon for sharing your home with us.

My husband and I recently enjoyed a two night stay in this gorgeous B&B. The beautiful collection of antiques takes you back in time and you literally forget where you are. Our room was spacious and superb with the Jacuzzi tub and steam shower. We had a very romantic breakfast in bed both mornings served by a most wonderful host Bob. The Empress helped make it a fantastic weekend for us. We are already talking about when we can return. Be sure to check out this B&B. You won't be disappointed with ANY room you choose to relax in.

Everything about our stay was top notch and exceeded any expectations, both reasonable and unreasonable, that one could possibly have. Big spacious room, friendly, talkative, informative manager, phenomenal breakfast to start the day off right. For a few days I felt like a King in my extended families castle. Couldn't ask for a better two days R&R at this B&B.

The Empress of Little Rock is the best B&B at which my wife and I have ever had the pleasure of staying. The history of the house is fascinating and Bob and Sharon are the best host and hostess! The food was excellent, the house and grounds are magnificent, and like I said, the host and hostess are extraordinarily gracious. We will be back!

Outstanding experience. The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the Little Rock area and the food was delicious. It was my first bed and breakfast experience and, based on this experience, I will definitely be returning. The staff went out of their way to ensure that we had the best experience possible. They were even willing to help with a tow service when my vehicle wouldn't start on the morning of our checkout. I was extremely pleased with the experience and would happily recommend it to everyone I know.

My boyfriend and I went to the Empress of Litttle Rock and it was his first Bed and Breakfast experience. He and I have decided that coming to Little Rock and staying at The Empress was one of the most fantastic weekends that we have had in a while. Not only were the rooms much bigger than the pictures would suggest, but the atmosphere was fantastic and the hospitality was the best that I have seen in my many Bed and Breakfast experiences so far. The most amazing thing was the way that they went above and beyond for us at The Empress, even past the normal expectations. My boyfriends car would not start on the date that we were to leave, and we had horseback riding reservations soon after check-out. At the Empress they called a tow-truck for us, and then told us that they would give the key to the tow-truck when they arrived. While we were out enjoying the rest of our weekend long after checking out- the hospitable individuals at the Empress were talking with the mechanic and taking care of our car problems. Not only was it going above and beyond, but it ensured that we had a really fantiastic weekend away, even though we had car problems. We could not have asked for a better host and hostess to make our weekend one of the best ones that we have had so far. We will be back as often as we can to visit every room at The Empress.

My wife and I truly enjoyed every aspect of the Empress, it was romantic, nostalgic and fantastic. The mansion was filled with unique antiques and amazing Victorian style furniture. Our room was like taking a step back in time, known as the Hemingway Suite it is often requested by travelers. It was amazing and we can't wait to go back!

my husband surprised me with a 3 night stay at the empress for our anniversary. he had many additional surprises planned and pulled them off throughout the weekend with help from deborah, who was so gracious and charming! i cannot say enough good things about our stay...the empress is a magnificent home, the staff was so accommodating, the breakfast was fabulous, the hemingway suite was luxurious, and the attention to detail was impeccable! we generally make it a rule to stay at different b&b's just for different experiences, but i sincerely hope we break that rule and stay at the empress again in the future!

My wife and I just stayed there for a "babymoon" before our third child. We stayed in the Hornibrook Suite!!! You should stay in this room if you go. Tub, fireplace, amazing sheets and bed. There is a TV and DVD player but you probably won't need them. The room was amazingly romantic at night with the fire going. They provided amazing robes to wear around the room which made you feel like the Crawley's from Downton Abbey. Go if you can!!!

My husband and I stayed at B&Bs while driving from Arizona to Virginia in January. This was by far the most extravagant house of all, owing to the nature of the original owners intent. Bob and Sharon have beautifully and lovingly restored it to its' formal glory. What a treat it was. A walk around the historic Governers Distric is highly recommended, as is the quick and easy drive to the waterfront area full of restaurants and shops. Can't wait to have an excuse to visit again in springtime to enjoy what I imagine would be a very fragrant and lovely yard and landscape. The closest dining experience to Downton Abbey this side of the Atlantic. Wish I could have stayed longer. the Upchurchs

My husband and I stayed in the Majestic Spa suite for our 27th anniversary. This room is in the lower floor of the Carriage House and easily accessible. The Empress is beautiful!!! We loved the gardens, sat in the swing, and enjoyed a wonderful afternoon in January....who would've thought. The house, and it's history, is a true delight. The staff is warm and welcoming. Breakfast is not anything near traditional, excellent flavor, but also sparse, for our taste. Will visit again... Dave and Marla McClain Pomona KS

This was our first experience at a B&B. And we don't ever want to go back to a hotel! Bob and Sharon, as well as all of their staff, spoiled us beyond belief. They took such attention to detail, and wanted to make sure we were completely satisfied. We had a fireplace in our room, and it was always freshly stocked with fire logs. And one morning, we were called to breakfast by Deborah saying "breakfast is ready, my loves!" Bob served us breakfast every morning, and was so easy to talk to. The amenities were out of this world, from the robes, to the claw foot tub and jacuzzi, and the in room liquor. Oh, and the microfiber sheets...HEAVENLY! Staying at a B&B was an experience in and of itself! Typically when we travel, we stay at a hotel, and don't spend much time in our room. On this trip, however, we found ourselves wanting to go back and spend time in our quaint little room with all of it's perks! We will definitely be recommending The Empress to everyone we know, and we will for sure be back! -Christina

We stayed at the Empress after moving from Michigan. It was treat not to have to set up a place to sleep immediately as we arrived late into town. The staff was wonderful and very accommodating. We spent two nights and really enjoyed the hospitality and the food. We had the bonus of attending the New Years Eve Party and made some new friends.

I absolutely adore this little gem in Little Rock! I originally was just looking for a hotel with a spa so that my husband and I could get massages. Right after Christmas, apparently everyone is redeeming gift cards and NO ONE could squeeze us in. I finally found the Empress B&B had a massage package and was like why not, i cant book a massage anywhere else... but this place is magical! walking in this late 1800s era house felt very grand but intimate at the same time. We toured the home and loved the little history of the home too. And our suite, WOW! it was so beautiful and relaxing that we never left the room. We had a picnic in the room by the fireplace and then in-suite massages. As soon as the massage therapists left, we hopped in the huge jacuzzi. Afterwards we snuggled in this massive, cozy bed and talked about our past and future together. It began to rain and the sweet sounds of rain pitter patter carried us to a wonderful nights rest. The next morning, our friendly butler Bob, woke us up to a delicious breakfast in bed. Talk about feeling like royalty! Took a shower in the steam shower, jets spraying water from every direction, it was like another massage! i wished we couldve stayed another night, i so did not want to leave! I want to go back again in the spring or summer, i bet the garden looks so pretty when the flowers are in bloom. Cute little setting for an intimate outdoor wedding. We go on vacation just about every 3-4 months as we dont have children yet, so i can tell you that this place is definitely one of my top 5 vacations spots, pretty impressive considering ive been all over the US and overseas several times. Its a place where its about love and intimacy, getting back to the basics, stepping away from the hustle and bussle of everyday life and living in the moment.

What a wonderful B&B! The Petite Jean room was clean and beautifully decorated. The bed was very comfortable. What a delight to discover I had the entire place to myself. I wish I had more time to explore. The staff was very helpful. Sharon provided excellent directions over the phone. Displayed on-site are several articles written on the B&B in past issues of Victorian Homes magazine, which were very informative.

Stayed for our anniversary in July-we were the only guests the entire stay so had the place to ourselves. Home is beautifully decorated in antiques. Breakfasts were delicious and served by candlelight. Very much enjoyed the house tour-was very interesting. Staff was very accomodating as far as providing information and directions. The Empress is really a charmer. The house was exquisitely restored to the Victorian Era and the owners and staff are very knowledgeable. I also found them very flexible with my hectic schedule (hospital business) in Little Rock. The rooms are huge and all are romantic. My only regret was that I wasn't on vacation to enjoy all of the amenities.

I recently stayed at this house. The house was amazing. The innkeeper was pleasant and polite. The beds have feathertops, which haven't been turned in a while,so I didn't sleep and battled a backache the rest of the weekend. The breakfast was good, but was the equivalent of 1 pancake...not exactly what my 6'4" frame needs to start the day. Upon checkout, I was hit with some $10 mystery surcharge. After all fees, I paid $165ish for the smallest room and a pancake...not exactly "value", ya know?!
It has always been our mission to provide a wonderful guest experience. That's why this guest was upgraded upon check in to a more expensive room, and we are very disappointed that he describes his stay as having little value. We realize we can't be all things to all people, but often times good communication can lead to a better stay. While we can make sure we do our part, it's important guests understand they must do theirs; requesting seconds, letting us know of preferences when asked at checkin will always improve any guests experience. FYI: we turn our feathertops after each guest. We often have guests ask our secret for such a comfortable bed. There are NO mystery charges. Our fees are explained clearly on the website, when the reservation is taken, and reiterated in the confirmation. Listening is a lost art. We would all do well to do more of it. We thank this guest for reminding us that we need to go the EXTRA mile to make sure they are listening.

My daughter and I stayed at this magnificent Bed and Breakfast and were blown away by the attention to detail in every corner of this home. We spent hour perusing the rooms, antiques, pictures and stories of this beautiful home. It is in a great location near downtown, we were pointed to the most amazing restaurant, The Flying Fish where we had Catfihs and Hushpuppies that were to die for! It was an amazing eperience topped off by the friendly and helpful staff. Did I mention how comfortable the beds were!!

My friend and I took a girls weekend here at The Empress. Can I tell you how hard it was to leave? The breakfast our last day was so wonderful, I want to make it at home but don't want to ruin the memory! Specialty french toast for the win. :D I was amazed at the fact that the ceiling were so high and CLEAN - I can barely do that in my own home, with 8 foot ceilings. The entrance and lounge/parlor areas were very warm and inviting with the regal colors that they are decorated in. We stayed in the original master suite of the house and our bed was so neat, something I have never seen before, with a 1/2 Canopy of solid wood. Our room was very airy and bright. The large windows let in so much light we didn't need the electric lights till after sundown. My friend said had she not already been married she would have married the spa we had in our room, yea she liked it a lot. We spent a good bit of time on the porch swinging and chatting and just enjoying ourselves. The bit of time we did spend out was also pretty stress free. Super fast to get to the river market area of shops and restaurants. I get lost in a paper sack and the Hostess Deborah got me there and back safe and sound. I plan on going back in about 2 months with my husband.

We had a great time staying at the Empress. The rooms are wonderful, and the value is very good. The only negative is that the Empress is located in the middle of a lower income neighborhood (which can be noisy at night) with nowhere to walk to...must drive (albeit a short drive) to everything.
5 on January 01, 2012
The rooms were excellent, it was aesthetically very pleasing to see the intricate details of the rooms, at the same time the beds were very comfortable and the food was excellent. When we stepped into the Empress it was as if we were brought back into the Victoria era. Very nice getaway!

This is a incredable house with a very interesting history. That alone would be a reason to come here, but there is so much more. More than can be said here but here is a small list: the beds, the sheets, the furniture, the service, the location, the chocolates and magazines in the rooms. If you find yourself anywhere near Arkansas, find your way to the Empress of Little Rock.

My fiancee...now husband and I dont have much money. But a wedding at the Empress was SO affordable; and it sacrifices nothing! We had a beautiful garden wedding that was simply enchanting; we stayed in the hemingway suite and had breakfast in bed no less! We could only stay one night but are already planning to stay at the empress in spring and then again for our anniversary next year. The staff is AMAZING and I was impressed with how simple things were to arrange the wedding while working full time with LOTS of overtime hours. I really didnt have to do anything but show up! Thanks to Jessica for setting up the wedding and Deborah was so much fun and was gracious when bringing us breakfast. We recommend this to anyone planning a wedding or just want a beautiful getaway!

My husband and I had our wedding on October 22, 2011 at the Empress and our entire experience was top notch. The staff was great at planning the event, the location was easy to find, everything was reasonably priced (if not a STEAL considering all that they do for you). We stayed in the Hemingway suite after our wedding and I never wanted to leave! They have luxury spa tubs and showers and beautiful ambiance. They had trays of food from our wedding waiting for us (which is a good thing, because we were starving!). We couldn't have asked for a better day. If you want a beautiful wedding that you don't want to have to do all the intricate details for-the Empress is the place to go!

We were visiting from Australia and hadn't been to Arkansas previously. We arrived early (and without prior notice) but were made to feel welcome and comfortable from the moment we stepped in the front door. Our room was ready and it was a seamless check-in. As the inn wasn't full, the hostess kindly gave us a short tour of the other rooms (all magnificently decorated and presented) and shared with us the history of the house and its occupants. Breakfast the next morning was exquisite, served in the formal dining room with silverware and the server in period apron - just delightful. The setting was amazing, you feel transported to another more genteel and special era. Although some luggage was mishandled by the airline, the staff personally brought our bag to our door as soon as it arrived. They also went out of their way to ensure my fiance's wedding ring was forwarded to me, liaising with the courier late into the evening, after it was delivered to Little Rock after our departure. I simply cannot recommend the experience enough. Beautiful setting and warm, caring and attentive hosts. Thank you, Leanne from Canberra Australia.

The Empress is a very lovely home loaded with many interesting antiques. My wife and I greatly enjoyed looking at all of the beautiful things and the place makes for many wonderful kodak moments. Our room the Hemingway suite was very beautifully decorated and had a lot of extras including a great shower with aroma therapy and message capabilities. There were several things that were disappointing. The bed frame was bent in the middle and the bed looked somewhat banana shaped. The mattress was very hard and had huge depressions on both sides with a huge hump in the middle. It was very uncomfortable. The breakfast was disappointing as well. The atmosphere was very elegant and food presentation was good but the quality and portions left something to be desired. To be honest we didn't like any of it. Rhubarb soup for breakfast is just not my cup of tea. The secret garden was poorly maintained. There was an old hot tub in the garden that was in disrepair and covered with dirt and mold. The view from the balcony looks over the secret garden and also the back yards of the neighbors which are loaded with lots of old junk making you want to just shut the door and go back inside. All this being said we did manage to enjoy ourselves despite the backaches from the bed. One last thing. Everywhere you look in your room and around there house there are things on the dressers And tables for you to buy. These things belong in the gift shop and cheapened the experience for us. As I said it makes a great museum but a not so good bed and breakfast. The two things anyone wants most from a Bed and breakfast are a great bed a a great breakfast. The bed was just plain uncomfortable and worn out and the breakfast may just be a matter of taste but it wasn't ours. I suspect if everyone that I saw while there were to leave their comments you might see that it just doesn't hold up to your expectations.
We always like to know when a guest is displeased. We always consider this an opportunity for improvement. In this case, I will let the comments from all our other previous guests speak for the guest experience at this inn. But I must take exception to the comments made about the bed in the Hemingway Spa Suite and the gardens. This is a custom made bed with an iron bed frame. I personally checked the bed out when I read our guests comment because I just couldn't imagine what on earth he was talking about. And indeed, the iron bed frame is not bent, nor even remotely "banana shaped". It has a nearly new BeautyRest pillow top mattress with a "featherbed" added on top of that. However, when guests lay on the bed, the feathers do push out to the sides creating a comfortable niche for the back to rest on. This will create the appearance of a bulge in the center until it is smoothed out when the featherbed is turned after each guest stay. In fact, we've had an amazing number of guests tell us they've never slept as well at home as they have in our wonderful featherbeds and want to know our secret. Sadly, we cannot guarantee our gardens are as beautiful in the fall of the year, especially after surviving four months of 100+ temperatures. But our gardens are always mowed and well maintained by a gardener who comes 1-3 days a week. The hot tub is not for guest use since the cost of the liability insurance has made it prohibative, but it works fine when we use it and it is attractively surrounded by wood and lattice decking. Rain does collect on the top and with all the fall pollen and leaves, it is quite possible it needed a good rinse. We regret this guest did not enjoy their stay . But slamming a facility because it doesn't match ones own personal taste is disappointing. It seems clear why they indicated they do not usually stay in bed and breakfasts. Nonetheless, we enjoyed these guests and wish them the best.

I haven't had that great of a sleep in some time. The location is a bit out of town but an easy fast drive. If you stay, you must stay for breakfast and try the Acadia for price fixed dinner Mon/Tues- it is amazing. The innkeeper Jessica was very helpful and showed us where everything was when we checked in. We would definitely go back!

I have stayed at The Empress several nights in March 2011, traveling on business. First ~ it is a LOVELY home, there are breathtaking details in every single room. The Empress is decorated in immaculate style. Second, you will find the staff and owners to be out of their way accommodating, helpful, and very pleasant. They always cook up a scrumptious breakfast that is appropriate for royalty! When I have to leave early, they fix me a breakfast to go and always put write something special on the package wishing me a happy day! What service!!!!!! The beds are comfy and the sheets are exceptionally nice. The towels and wash cloths have an extra nice feel, too! I love staying at The Empress and always look forward to my next visit.

My wife and I stayed in the J.E. Murray room on February 18, 2011 and had an absolute wonderful stay. The Empress is beautiful and all the rooms share a great deal of Southern history inside them. The J.E. Murray room was very large and peaceful. The stay was very quiet, even on a busy Friday night in Little Rock. Breakfast was amazing with French toast that seem to have come out of a Williams Sanoma catalog. Absolutely amazing. We had dinner at local spot down the street called Juanitas and was great if you wanted to sit back, drink some margaritas and eat some good Mexican cuisine. Overall the stay was great andn we will be coming back.

My husband and I spent our first visit to a B&B at the Empress and I must say it was more beautiful than I expected..Amenities were outstanding. The staff treated us like family. It is the most comfortable night I have spent away from home..I would recommend to anyone visiting the Little Rock area to check this place out. You will not be disappointed and we will visit again. My first visit to a B&B has spiked my interest and I will be visiting many more in the years to come.

The Empress in Little Rock is the most beautiful victorian home I've experienced. The attention to detail is amazing! The accomodations were better than any 5 star hotel I've stayed in and the service was impecable. Breakfast was way beyond my expectation with homemade sweet rolls, ham and asperagus in puff pastry, and much more. This is not a breakfast buffet, it's a served meal! If you are going to stay in Little Rock, AR this is the place to be!
Bob and I continue to be honored and humbled by the kind words of our guests. Our mission is to provide more than they expect. We try hard to achieve it. We don't always make it, but we're so appreciative to our wonderful guests for taking the time out to let us know we did it right for them!

Took a little spring trip with my just graduated from college daughter--Arrived on a Sunday afternoon to find that we were the only ones booked for the evening. It was incredibly magical to have the entire beautiful place to ourselves.(There was one innkeeper on duty, but after telling us where they would be, they left us alone.) The next morning we had a terrific breakfast in the dining room. Wonderful experience, and really good food!

I enjoyed my stay very much. I did not want to leave. I am looking forward to returning again in the near future. Thank you for making my business trip more pleasant than I could have imagined. I felt like I was on vacation instead of business. Gorgeous place to visit!!!!!

This was the first B&B my wife and I had stayed at. It was a surprise anniversary gift for her so I wanted it to be special and grand. We stayed in the 'Hollywood Suite' and it was awesome. The two of us are both certified chefs, but the food and service was still impressive. We are looking forward to our next visit in the near future.

Oh my goodness The Empress is magnificent! The beautiful decor, atmosphere, service, this is a top notch B&B. I travel alot for work and compare all the places to The Empress and those shoes are very hard to fill! My favorite part of the rooms are the sheets, who knew a person would long to stay somewhere for sheets! The Empress allows you to truly relax even when you are staying for business. -Fort Smith

The stay at the Empress was not planed. I was coming into town to visit my mothers grave site and had not made a reservation. We found the B & B and I was very excited to stay we went in and it was sooo pretty and the owners were so nice and were helpful. If you stay any place this is a place to stay. We have stayed in alot of places from Texas to Alaska and this B & B is outstanding.

We loved our room and the staff was very friendly. However, we notified staff when making reservation that one of us didn't eat pork and were told we would have turkey sausage instead. We had to eat there 4 times for breakfast and I never received the turkey - even when I reminded them upon arrival. Also, we didn't care for the italian restaurant and picnic items. We had better luck with finding our own places to eat.

The Empress in Little Rock was where my wife and I spent our first night after marriage. We have revisited this location on special occasions since we enjoyed it so much our first time around. Each time we have stayed, we feel as if we are royalty. The hospitality is outstanding! Looking forward to our next stay! Sincerely, Chris and Monica Eastham

My husband and I wanted to do something extra special for our 20th anniversary but didn't have money to go on an actual vacation. We got the Hemingway Suite here and it was like we had escaped to another time. We were in the middle of the city but it seemed that we were far away from everyone. We were treated like royalty. My husband is diabetic and Annette was so great to cater his breakfast to his dietary needs. The room was beautiful, romantic, the hydro-massage shower as well as the jacuzzi tub were such a luxury. The house is amazing to view and tour. We are planning on staying every few months or so for a quick getaway together rather than wait for an anniversary! Well worth it!! Best anniversary yet just wish we could have stayed longer.

I had my wedding at the Empress and then stayed the night there. I could not have asked for the most perfect fairy tale wedding and reception. The staff was wonderful, the food was divine and they took care of the wedding party, my family and friends like they were all royalty. I slept like a baby and the breakfast was amazing. I know we will be back for more amazing memories there. Thank you for all you have done!! Donna

Spent the evening after a day of Black Friday shopping recuperating in the Majestic Spa Suite. Definitely the way to recover after a day of walking and crowds. The charm and features are going to bring us back and probably going to send our parents for a gift as well. The breakfast is an experience that anyone can appreciate and one my wife loved. Treat yourselves and stay here for an unique experience. Our first B&B but certainly only the first of many to come. They were 90% complete for Christmas decorations though what more they could do is sure to be impressive since we thought that what was done was above and beyond. I had to take a couple pics of a the decorated rooms that were so well done.

We live in Indiana and I work in NM. I met my wife for a romantic weekend in Little Rock. When I arrived at The Empress I was greeted by Deborah. She got us checked in and then gave us a tour of the facility. Deborah was very courteous and helpful. She said she was there to make our stay enjoyable and memorable. She did a wonderful job, as everything was perfect. After we got settled in, my wife and I went out for dinner. When we got back to our room, the bed was turned down and rose petals were sprinkled on the bed. The Empress made sure that our weekend was success. There was no detail to small and nothing was overlooked. The public rooms were decorated beautifully, our room was beyond belief. The breakfast the next morning was delicious. We were served a candle it breakfast by a bow-tied butler (the owner). Tom did a wonderful job with breakfast and everything was perfect. When it was time to check-out we were greeted by Deborah again. She once again made sure that everything was perfect for us. She invited us back and hugged us good bye. I would highly recommend The Empress. It is by far one of the best places we have ever stayed. The love and care by the owners and staff were evident at every turn. My hat is off to The Empress and thier staff. Dave and Mary B.

My husband and I spent our wedding night in the Hemingway Suite at The Empress of Little Rock. It was beyond what we expected. It was the neatest room with so many amentities. It was not like staying at a hotel; it was so much more. The breakfast the next morning was delicious, snd so much better than what other hotels offer. I highly recommend The Empress of Little Rock to anyone who wants a unique place to stay.

My daughter and I stayed at The Empress of Little Rock while enjoying a fun girls weekend. We had a wonderful, relaxing stay. The Empress is absolutely gorgeous. We loved our room, the hospitality, the food and the step back in history as we sat in the parlor and talked of times gone by. A great find that we hope to visit again.

If you need a "get away" this is THE place! The rooms are so elegantly decorated that you feel like royalty when you step through your door. The staff pampers you and attends to your every need. They booked a hot stone massage, made reservations for dinner, and found directions to antique stores with such exuberance and ease, it was obvious I was in the hands of professionals. Returning the the Empress is already in my plans!

We stayed at The Empress for 3 nights for our honeymoon. We stayed in the Hemingway Suite and from the moment we arrived, we were pampered and treated like royalty! From the incredible breakfasts to the rose petal turndown, we fell in love with this Old Bell of the South instantly. Bob, Sharon, Annette, and Deborah were all so friendly and warm that they felt like family. We love you all to pieces! The accomodations were 5 star, the rooms were beautiful and we can't wait to go back to stay again and see these wonderful people! Thank you Bob, Sharon, Annette, and Deborah for making our honeymoon so romantic and memorable. When you do stay there, we suggest you get the Gone With the Wind package like we did. We had a gourmet picnic at the Old Mill, a fantastic carriage ride through the beautiful homes in Little Rock and breakfast in bed served by Bob himself! There are other great looking packages and although we didn'jt have any of the others (yet), we are sure that they are just as perfect as the package we chose.

Our stay on August 15th was the first time my wife and I had ever stayed at a B&B. Due to not knowing what to expect, the experience felt awkward at first ...but with the regal hospitality of the innkeeper& staff, that evening and the following morning turned out very well. The garden has a very secludedfeel and with the hammock , fountian, deep shade, and surrounding ivy covered walls... it was very tranquil. Since we had the room facing west against the sun and daytime outside temperatures of 104, the room stayed at about 80 deg until later that afternoon when the a/c and fan started to gain some ground , cooling the room down to "normal" tempuratures. Breakfast was excellent with a very good sunrise juice, fresh fruit with a beautiful display and then delicious and well presented Grand Marnier french toast, coffee, etc.. served downstairs alongsided a young college age couple from MD who was staying for their first honeymoon. Note that the neighborhood is not a strong selling point, but grounds are fairly secure with fence and gates..

There are no words sufficient to convey the happy feelings that linger after our wonderful night with you. Walking around the outside at dusk, seing the lights and lamps glowing through the windows -- walking around downstairs at our leisure after hours -- -- so many aspects of our experience that will be a precious memory for us for all time to come. Thanks -- Don + Joy Wright

For my birthday, my daughter researched our family tree and made a scrapbook for my gift. As I read through the census copies and pictures it became clear that part of the gift was to find some missing documents and certificates to trace our family lineage back far enough to allow us to become members of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution). Arkansas was the home of the Patriot's missing link, so she left Boston and I left Broken Arrow, Ok and we went to Arkansas to complete the search. She found The Empress in Little Rock website and thought it would be the perfect setting to add to our search for our family's past in. After a day searching cemeteries, archives and court houses, the inn was a beautiful culmination of history still alive with atmosphere and elegance. The Secret Garden, the pianoforte I played, the swing and fountains were all so beautiful and the staff only enhanced and made each moment more special. Such a precious memory shall never be forgotten for The Empress is part of our family history scrapbook now.

My husband and I celebrated our 15th anniversary at the Empress of Little Rock. We chose one of the spa suites and were not disappointed. The rooms were great and with the "buy two nights get one free", we felt able to afford a couple nights of "luxury". Robert, the innkeeper, and the hostess for the weekend, Deborah, were very accommodating, making our stay in Little Rock wonderful.

The innkeepers have done a superb job of restoring this magnificent home. Attention to detail not only shows in the house itself, but in the quality of the service we received. They've thought of everything! The staff was exceptional, as well as the breakfast. We were spoiled beyond our expectations. We will definitely recommend this B&B to our friends.

My husband John surprised me for my 65th birthday with a wonderful evening, including spending the night and a wonderful breakfast at The Empress of Little Rock. We had friends join us for wine before we departed for an elegant dinner at the Capitol Hotel. Our room was elegant; the bed dreamy, the bathtub was a beautiful old Claw foot, deep tub with a beautiful surround of polished oak. There was even a decanter of Amaretto for an after dinner night cap. Everyone at the Empress was wonderful. Breakfast was a delightful with fresh fruit, a starter of pureed warm peach soup it was delicious. We had a wonderful stay and my birthday is a wonderful memory. I would highly recommend to anyone a night at The Empress of Little Rock . . Anniversary, Birthday, or just to get away. Dee and John Ostner

We loved the room. It was expensive compared to the amenitites we usually require at luxury properties. There was no room service included in the rate, and no fitness center, and no variety in dining. However, we loved the room we were accommodated in. The shower was awesome and the fireplace was romantic, along with the stereo. The towel rack was a favorite for my husband. So, despite the lack of amenities we like to have, we still enjoyed the property very much!

I was a little disappointed but very excited about being the first to experience the luxury suite. The wait was well worth it. The room was beautiful, the bed was extremely comfortable, and the jacuzzi tub and shower was breathtaking. This was a perfect getaway that my husband and I needed. In any field, ranking individuals stops making sense at the highest levels. We have some basis for comparison, having stayed at B&Bs in other parts of the US and in the UK, and we see the Empress as within that upper tier, in which excellence is uniformly expected and received. My Father, who is the great grandson of the original owner, celebrated his 70th birthday here with all of his brothers and sisters and their families. We all felt as if we were transported back to the time this house was occupied by its owner. The Blairs have done an impeccable job in bringing the mansion back to a state that truely details it's Victorian beauty. I have yet to stay in any B&B who's owners give the guest an experience beyond all expectations. It is obvious that this is their passion and the memories of this place will remain for a very long time.

I had intended for us to stay at the Peabody, but I was disappointed that they could not guarantee me a room with a river view. This was a special anniversary celebration for us, and a friend of mine suggested I check out The Empress. I was pleasantly surprised to see that their rates were reasonable, and that breakfast was included. Our stay there was the highlight of our special day. We took a tour of the house, an amazing mansion!, where the attention to detail was impressive. The rooms are absolutely magnificent, you feel like you've traveled back in time. The innkeepers are the friendliest most delightful you'll ever meet, and they seem to truly enjoy getting to know you. The rooms are beautifuly decorated, spotlessly clean, comfortable and inviting. The plush robes they provided were an unexpected extra. I thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast. Although I have not stay there again, I have purchased several goft certificates for friends, and I am planning to stay again in the near future.

I have been a guest on two occassions while visiting Little Rock. I came to conduct research at the Arkansas History Commission. After a long day researching files and records, it was the perfect place to go so that you can relax and prepare yourself for the next day of research. When I needed a large table to spread out my research and organize my files, the table was produced without any delay. When I needed to leave early in the morning, they prepared a small meal that I could take with me. When I needed advice about where to eat or places to visit. Simply stated The Empress is everything you need in a place to stay. I look forward to a return visit.

I made a huge mistake when I booked a stay at The Empress of Little Rock. I flew into Little Rock on a late afternoon flight one day, and flew out of Little Rock early the next morning. This simply wasn't long enough to experience a property as beautiful and as historically significant as the Empress. I want to come back and stay long enough to soak up all the architectural details, sleep long as I want in the made-for-comfort bed and savor the breakfast I had to skip (in exchange for a breakfast-to-go in a bag).

We stayed at the Empress of Little Rock for our anniversary. It was the first time we had spent away from our children (as a couple) in over 8 years! It was long overdue, and we were so pleased that we were able to renew ourselves as a married couple in such a lovely, romantic, peaceful setting. With three children, we don't remember to do that for ourselves very often, but our time at the Empress showed us how important it is. We plan to make the Empress part of our strategy to renew, re-energize, and strengthen our relationship each year. Thanks so much!

My husband and I stayed at The Empress for one night to begin our trip to see his sister for her 80th birthday. It was the "BEST" decision I made on the whole trip. It was like going home, only with service. We live in Northern California and B+B's are everywhere but, we never expected a B+B in LIttle Rock as extraordinary as this one. We loved everything about it. The food was great, the room was great, and I spent so much time taking pictures that I didn't get a chance to just sit and relax. The host and hostess were charming and Wendy, who we spent the most time with, was a great help. My husband has trouble walking and Wendy was there whenever we needed something. Even though it rained the whole time we were in Arkansas, the one night we spent at The Empress made everything sunny. +

Unusually comfortable bed. Breakfast was above first rate. Home was very well decorated and clean. Coffee and tea outside rooms was nice touch. Bathroom in our room was very clean and functional but small. Definitely will return for another special occasion and will recommend highly to friends.

This is one of the most beautifully restored Victorian Mansions that we've even seen or stayed in. The people here just bent over backwards to make our stay memorable with wonderful amennities, recommendations for dining (with printed directions), friendliness, and of course the delicious and gorgeous breakfast. We hope we can return again. I would recommend this B&B to anyone.

Our stay at the Empress was a gift to my husband and me from my choir and some others at church where I am the choir director. It was a total surprise! We had a completely wonderful and relaxing time from start to finish, the three nights we were there. We stayed in the civil war Murray Room, but were shown all around the others and told the history of the place since we were interested; the decor is lovely everywhere. The people are friendly and fun to be with. And the food is wonderful. The Empress is the epitome of Southern Hospitality.

This was our first stay at a B&B. This place is gorgeous! The attention to detail is amazing. My husband and I stayed in the Hemmingway Suite for 1 night. Debra was our innkeeper and she was delightful. Sharon prepared our breakfast and it was served by Bob. Very fancy and scrumptous! We had a ham and aspargus crossaint that was to die for. These folks represent southern hospitality at it's best. We loved our room and felt so relaxed. It was a much needed get away that was well worth the price. This may have been our first b&b experience, but definitely not the last.

My husband surprised me on our anniversary with an overnight at the Empress-Ernest Hemmingway room. We put our tux and wedding dress on as we do every year we go out on our anniversary, and arrived at the Empress. From the minute we checked to the minute we checked out, the experience was wonderful. They arranged a horse and carriage ride to dinner and then served us breakfast in bed the next morning. The room was immaculate and the careful touches in the room such as the fireplace, music, jacuzzi bath, steam shower, and netted bed made for a cozy, romantic evening. We have never been a B&B fan, but after our stay at the Empress, we will seek out other gems such as this one when we travel.

Our June 6, 2009 stay at The Empress was a rare treat! It was our opportunity to return to a time when gracious living, impeccable service, and delicious food was the norm for the occupants of this lovely mansion. It's obvious that the Innkeepers, Bob and Sharon, have spared nothing when it comes to insuring that their guests will enjoy their stay. The Empress sets a very high standard for other B&B's!! My rollergirl wife and I were in Little Rock for the weekend and decided to stay at this wonderful little B&B. The service was amazing as Bob & Sharon (and staff) really made you feel at home. The beds were very cozy, the rooms were beautifully decorated and breakfast was delicious each and every morning. Thanks for having a Tornado Alley Rollergirl from OKC and her husband!

My wife and I recently took a trip to Little Rock, AR for our first wedding anniversary. We went diamond-mining, antique shopping, toured the Clinton library and even soaked in thermal water at Hot Springs. However, the most impactful and memorable part of our trip was the stay at The Empress. From the moment it comes into view, the visage of The Empress is imrpessive. Even under the dark, overcast skies The Empress was a bright and welcoming sight. We were greeted as we were parking the car and really made to feel special from the first moment. The interior of The Empress was meticulously appointed and was wonderfully reflective of Victorian times. Our room was in the tower and was romantic, luxurious and quanit all at the same time. The breakfasts were above and beyond our expectations and kept us excited to wake up in the morning. With all that has already been said, it was truly the small things that had the biggest impact on me. We arrived on a Sunday and were given a list on restaurants open late on Sundays. The innkeeper gave us a tour of the entire home and made suggestions as to where we could find landmarks -- all the way down to printing us out directions. There was a complimentary coffee/tea bar as well as amaretto liqueur in the room. And when they found out it was our anniversary they gave us a rose-petal turndown service. Little Rock may not seem like a hot vacation destination, but I would recommend that everyone take a short trip just to experience the luxury, decadence and top-flight service of The Empress. Believe me, it is an experience you will remember for some time.

This is the second trip my wife and I have made to the Empress. Our first visit was the night of our wedding and this one is the first break we have taken since our son was born eight weeks ago. We always get much needed rest and relaxation at the Empress. It makes you feel like you are back in the 1800's. We will always treasure every visit. Christopher and Monica Eastham

We stayed at the Empress on our wedding night and had the most amazing time. The pictures on the website do not do it justice...We stayed in the Scarlett room and my goodness... that is the best room there (in my opinion) !!!! Jason set up some very special "honeymoon romance" such as rose petals, champagne, chocolates and a fruit basket. The staff (Deborah--"go hogs!" :) were amazing and had everything perfectly ready for us. Thank you for contributing to the best wedding night a bride and groom could dream of. We will be back for sure!!!! Beautiful and very special memories.... -Jamie and Jason

This is a unique, and uniquely charming, place. It fulfilled all our expectations. The room was charming, and was equipped with everything to make the evening restful, secluded, romantic, and memorable. The breakfasts were excellent and above and beyond anything to be found in any chain establishment. The personnel were uniformly helpful and gracious. If you come to Little Rock, this is the place to stay!

As we travel quite frequently, we often stay in many hotels and B&Bs. This small hotel offers the most luxurious rooms we have ever experienced at a very reasonable rate. With an interesting history behind the mansion, a stay at The Empress allows each guest to step back into the past to create new stories of romance and adventure. We look forward to many return visits. M. & S. De Jesus

WOW! What an unbelievable find! So much love has been poured into this house! Attention to detail is obvious. The furnishings are grand but comfortable, and the service was impeccable. We loved our gourmet breakfast - although it wasn't the most filling - and really enjoyed chatting with Bob and Deborah. We stayed in the Miss Eliza room, and while it's the smallest room (and lowest priced) at the Empress, it offers PLENTY of space. Great value. Beautiful home. We will be back for sure! (By the way, we also stayed at another B&B in the same district on this trip - it doesn't compare.)

The most wonderful birthday I have ever had was at The Empress, January 1997....I have never forgot that experience. True luxury and elegance. The suite is beautiful...with fireplace and beautiful furnishings. The food is wonderful. The Blair's are perfect hosts. I wrote in the journal at the bedside table....and slept in a comfortable bed and elegance all around me. I have visited several times since then and told many about The Empress. I can't wait until I can return again.

I have stayed at B&B's before, just a few, so i expected a historical experience, the Empress far exceeded my expectations. My two daughters, ages 11 & 17 came to Little Rock for a girls getaway and had a blast. The only thing missing was the southern bell dresses. THe girls walked around with thier mouths wide open in awe. The empress is spectacular.

My visit tothe Empress was perfect from the music box and dusting powder to the secret garden and the amaretto sipper on the dresser. Recommend a smaller box of chocolates. Breakfast was delicously unique and the ghostly card-room something to remember. The piano and the puzzle were inviting enough to touch. Keep the stool by the bed in Petit Jean room ... I will return

We stayed in the Hemmingway suite for one night at the Empress. While we liked the property and overall enjoyed our stay, we had a few reservations. On the positive side, the property is extremely well kept. This is truly one of the nicest inns we have visited. The furnishings and fixtures are very nice and everything was clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. There is good reason this place gets good reviews. However we had 2 reservations about this property. First, the Hemmingway suite (as well as the Majestic and Garden suites) are not in the main house. They are in a separate and much newer building across the parking lot. While we had full run of the house, we were disappointed that our room was not in the main house. Had this been listed on the website we could have anticipated such, but it was not listed. Second, they had a price tag on just about everything. I understand the add-on sale, but this was way overboard. I stopped counting after seeing 6 signs of items for sale in our room (such as chocolates, a disposable camera, bathroom spa kit, etc.). While they laid rose petals on our bed for the night (which was nice), they had a sign on the bed quoting a price for the petals. I paid much more than I normally do for this room and was really appalled by so much for sale. Overall it is an extremely nice place and the people are friendly, but do question which building your room is in and expect to see prices on a lot of things in your room.
As always, we love to hear good comments about the job we do, but we also feel it is important to hear when a guest has a reservation concerning their stay. In the instance related to the room they booked being in the carriage house, they booked this room directly online. At the top of the rooms page it very clearly mentions the spa suites are in our newly renovated carriage house. As so often happens, we miss things as we are skimming. We are disappointed about this misunderstanding, and will relook to see if we should improve the visibility for the future. As far as the items available for sale, every one perceives things in a different light. We've included these items in the room for our guests convenience and have been thanked on more than one occasion for the thought. The card for the roses was to make guests aware this was an extra done for their special occasion and to try to say in a tactful way we didn't want to sell them. We'll reconsider how we approach this and appreciate their thoughts on the topic.

A wintery mix of freezing rain forced a change of plans and we considered a stay in Little Rock. To our delight, the state Welcome Center showed us information to find this charming accomodation. Great, friendly and very helpful staff. The inn is very warm and welcoming. The food was execeptional. Deborah and Mittzy were the innkeepers the weekend we were there, there are not enought adjectives to describe how grate they are. The common areas were very warm and relaxing. Two little issues: one the bed in our room was very squeaky, and On Sat. moring one of the quest had a kind of business meeting in the common area that was a bit annoying since that'w what we want to get away from.

I frequent hotels/B&Bs about 3 times a week, and have for the past 8 years for business. I'm always looking for an alternative to the typical square room hotel. Unfortunately, most B&Bs have limited check-in hours. This was not that case with the Empress. The website does not do this B&B justice. What an amazing home and grounds. The rooms are huge and the location is perfect to great restaurants and walking at the Riverfront. It has all the amenities of a hotel (individial heat/ac, iron, and wireless internet). Staff was wonderful and breakfast perfect. I definitely know where I will be staying on my future trips to Little Rock.

Exquisite! The Empress was a quiet sanctuary from the hustle & bustle of family Thanksgiving holiday. We had a delightful stay! My husband & I stayed in the Miss Eliza bedchamber. The owners were wonderful hosts; Mitzi, one of the staff, was a delightful hostess, as well. And the breakfasts! Oh my! They were entertainment in themselves! Each afternoon when we rejoined our family, their first question was, "So, what did y'all have for breakfast this morning?" They were two course works of art - pleasing to the eyes and nose, as well as to the pallet! The bed chambers are beautiful and comfortable. They didn't neglect the extras, either. Telephone, television, wireless internet, robes, iron, and hair driers are in the room. Your choice of teas, coffees, and hot chocolate are available from a self-serve cabinet in the hallway & are available at all hours. Snacks and bottled water were also steps away from our room. We highly recommend The Empress of Little Rock - what a jewel!

We stay in B&B's wherever we go and this was one of the best experiences ever. The property is beautiful and in keeping with the historic nature of the property. The attention to detail in our room was great and comfortable. The breakfast first rate. When you ask, how did you cook this or what is the recipe, you know the food is good. We had some friends drop by that evening to see the property and to hang out. We had a great time just sitting on the porch talking and enjoying the ambience of the massive veranda and gardens. We said in the main house, but were very impressed with the modern rooms adjacent to the conference center. They were comparable to the best five star room in a contemporary property. Our only regret is no ghost in our room, but we intend to come back and try ever room, there must be one there somewhere.

My husband and I loved our recent stay here! I had booked a suite for us and it was just a wonderful experience. Hope to do it again. I would recommend The Empress very highly!

Great service and beautiful, but roach found in shower and dirty cleaning rag left on bed.

Wonderful hosts, great rooms, wonderful history. This place has it all. Services were above average for most B&B's. I loved the house, the bed was awesome. It is hard not to recommend this place. It beats any hotel in the area. I would stay here again in a jiffy!

The building itself along with its decor are classically beautiful. The staff/owners make you feel at home (even though your home is probably very different from theirs.)
