Morning Coffee in the Upstairs Living Room / Lobby area complete with it's 40 foot wall of windows make you feel like you are in a tree house overlooking the East Verde River!
The Courtyard entrance is the place to enjoy our resident humming birds and our migrating monarch butterflies -- you might even catch a glimpse or two of the bright yellow finches that flit about. Payson (and the East Verde Riparian area) is a major destination for birders!
The summer sun brings so much greenery that it is hard to believe you are in Arizona -- we have high hopes for grape wines -- who knows we may someday start of own vineyard!! See if you can locate the rock that is rumored to have come from Picasso's garden amongst the incredible Taliesen style Indian stone mason work which abounds -- all the rock originated from the East Verde River -- this is where the Rock House got it's name!
Even the winter is a fabulous time to visit the Rock House -- a winter paradise!
Go swimming, fishing or perhaps enjoy a leisurely paddle in the pedal boat! We are literally directly on the banks of the gently flowing East Verde River in Payson,AZ
Try your luck and cast your rod for one of the rainbow trout which are regularly stocked along the Bank of the East Verde river - great place to fish or at least pretend to fish while enjoying a glass of wine! Steve claims he once hooked a marlin....hmmmmmmm, must have been the wine! lol
The Rock House rental fleet of ATV/UTVs includes a 2 passenger high performance Razor S ("The orange crusher") - "Leonardo" our blue 6 passenger and "Goliah" our brand new awesome crew cab (seats 6++) What a ride! The Rock House's UTVs really Rock!! Call us for details!
"Leonardo" is just one of The Rock House's "fleet" of ATV/UTV's that we offer for rent -- take a scenic drive to the Old Crackerjack Mine circa 1850 -- if you like we will even pack you a gourmet lunch, travel in style!
"Ruby" the Rock House's resident tricked out 5 passenger Jeep Rubicon is available for guests to rent to create their own off-road adventure! Call us for details!
Nothing like a jacuzzi under the star after a hike down the river "rock hopping" - The Rock therapeduic jacuzzi is incredible - perhaps try the Canadian Redwood sauna before or after or maybe an onsite massage by one of Payson's finest massage therapist? It's your getaway -- you decide!

5 out of 5The New Casita, So Awesome We Could Live There
October 12, 2012
We stayed in the "new" Casita on a very last minute extra night away. Maggie indulged us in dinner. She also outdid herself with our breakfast. The Casita is just amazing. A tiny fully equiped place built against a rock retaining wall. How they got so much into such a small space and make it all work and still feel roomy is beyond me. The bed was soooo comfy, and linens wonderful. The walk in shower with massaging foot stone bottom, non-slip I might add, Bliss. The kitchen has almost more than mine does at home. It even has a gas firestove. All of the little touches are amazing, stained glass over the bathroom door; special light fixtures abound; ample towels and robes. We ate out on the patio for dinner where we got to see the resident Javelina family, quite cute.. Dinner was the most wonderful grilled Halibut we've had in awhile. Breakfast for me, blueberry pancakes to die for. Mom had a skillet casserole dish that was wonderful. Only a few tiny nit picking drawbacks that I can find... Don't get there in the dark, the driveway could be a little intimidating. Nothing big deal, but in the dark could be unnerving. We are avid past campers so used to bugs, but we will come back in the "non" buggy time of year. Not the innkeepers fault obviously but there is so much outdoor space to enjoy and walk down to the river that we were a bit blue to have to stay mostly inside. That's ok, an excuse for another trip! The inside of the house is great and has soooo many things to look at out of curiousity that you could be there for days. However if anyone in your party has a problem with taxidermy, you might not be comfortable. I'm ok with it, but it made my Mother a bit uneasy. Nothing negative, just a heads up for some people. Maggie and Steve were both uber helpful about maps and the area. Last but not least... Maggie's dog Henri, who is quite obviously the King, was wonderful, He stole our hearts. Hope to be back soon.

I am so spoiled after staying in this quaint, private paradise. The food was delicious. The hostess was lovely and attentive when necessary but left us to our privacy when we were all situated. It was simple, yet elegant and luxurious. I didn't want to leave!

If you are looking for a wonderfully private, natural setting with a warm, friendly and helpful hostess who creates fantastic gourmet meals ...then this is the place! Maggie's home became our home. We played for hours with the Polaris in the hills of the canyons and the riverbed. We hiked on and off property trails, wishing we had our fishing poles. Local wildlife wandered onto rocks by the house while we relaxed on the deck. Hummingbirds darted about protecting their territories and the sound of coyotes calling were heard each evening. Wonderfully serene. Amazingly relaxing. We are already working on dates for our next visit.

Maggie made us feel like we were at home, but not having to deal with the stresses of home. The food is outstanding! Better than any restaurant. The views are amazing and I can't imagine going anywhere else for my getaways. There is no cell service, which made my stay even more relaxing!
5 out of 5An Elegant and Eclectic Corner of Heaven
May 22, 2010
Our 1st stay was back in July 2009 and we have been anxious to get back there ever since! Maggie and Steve are both genuinely nice people that are easy to be around and excelled at making us feel at ease and welcome in their beautiful home. They are attentive without being obtrusive, nor absent when we had questions. Then there’s the food…or cuisine…depending on what we requested…FABULOUS! Maggie competes and has a some wins under her chef’s hat ¿ The Rock House has a fun and interesting history, sits on some of the prettiest property along the river, and has easy hiking trails that can be picked up right out back. If you want to spend the day feeling like you are camping in the wilderness, then return to a hot shower, luxurious linens, fine cuisine, and a comfortable bed, this is where you want to be. It is definitely where we like to be, and are returning for a 2 day stay in June – can’t wait!!

Wow! What an amazing bed and breakfast! We have stayed at a few BnB but this is one we will always remember! As soon as we arrived we were amazed at the beautiful location, breathtaking scenery and warm hospitality! We had private access to not just our room but to the whole downstairs with beautiful views from every window! Snacks and drinks are generously provided throughout the stay. Plenty of DVD's and books to choose from. Maggie is such a wonderful person that makes you feel at home. She is an outstanding cook! The food was incredible! Nothing is ordinary here! We had a great time going for a walk along the river and enjoyed the beautiful scenery! The jacuzzi and sauna were amazing. This stay gave us the rest and peace we needed! Thank you for sharing your paradise! K&A
