Longing For Home Bed and Breakfast is located in North Alabama's Tennessee Valley west of Huntsville, Alabama and 2 hours north of Birmingham, Alabama and south of Nashville, Tennessee - near Joe Wheeler State Park. Setting amid 15 wooded acres this 1880's style farmhouse is a great romantic hideaway, a peaceful weekend getaway or vacation destination - for those looking to experience the renewed “State of Mind, Place of Grace and Way of Life”* of ages past that is Longing for Home. * Taken from How To Be A Better Southerner, Carolyn Kent, Southern Renaissance Publishing, Nashville, TN.
This well-appointed two room suite features a sitting room with a thick wool art-deco rug, an inviting love-seat, teal wingback chair and a large electric fireplace with media center. Business travelers can appreciate the antique secretary desk if work is necessary. This room features an adjoining bedroom/bath with superb wood floor, an armoire and a full length mirror. There is also a luxurious, queen sized Comfortaire bed topped with lavish 800 thread count sheets and designer comforter. Amenities for the bath include a towel warmer, period black & white tile flooring and a fantastic column power shower. Finally, this room actually sets outside the walls of the original house so that the limestone wall with original glass window fashions unique textural contrast for the room. Reach out your hand to touch stones hoisted and secured into place almost 100 years ago. Amenities include, hair dryer, AM/FM clock radio with iPod station, Wi-Fi, zone temperature control.
In the summer of 1921 Henry Ford was highly interested in the future of the "Shoals," when he offered $5 million for the purchase of two nitrate plants and a coal-fired steam electric generating plant in the Shoals area. To help push his offer, he and Thomas Edison, traveling together, arrived in Florence, Alabama on December 3, 1921. During this visit to the Shoals both men were entertained at and, we understand, stayed at what is now the Limestone House. This oriental guestroom is beautifully w/an antique queen bed w/800+thread count sheets, thick rugs and original wood flooring. The bath is a wonderful space w/period white and black ceramic tile floor, double sinks, black lacquer framed mirrors and towel warmer. A sleek black steam shower for two is complete with 2 teak finish benches, Chroma therapy, aromatherapy, music as well as an overhead shower, hand held shower head and 12 jets to give a total bathing experience to our guests.
This room is truly the perfect escape from the hectic pace of life and a safe haven that reaches back to a less complicated time when simple pleasures were more highly valued. Inspired by the Shaker designs of the late 18th and early 19thcenturies, at first glance Simple Pleasures seems less ornate – but don’t be fooled. This room features a full wall of built-in shelves, a desk area and a unique reading nook that will draw you toward a simpler “Way of Life.”
Select Country Graces for your quiet retreat from a hectic pace of life and become captured by the feelings of romance and grace from an era long past. Let the cares of life float from your mind as you soak motionless amid the warm waters of your authentic antique claw-foot tub. Curl snuggly into softly padded window nooks and consider the love of God that is evident in the flowering fields and flourishing trees that expand before your view. This room truly is “A Place of Grace.”
This enchanting Tennessee Valley hideaway is the ideal place to become lost in your dreams. Let the concerns of the day melt away as your sink into your luxurious Jacuzzi whirlpool tub. Enjoy the first taste of rich morning coffee from your private balcony. From the super deluxe bedding of a king size Select Comfort bed to the soft chandelier lighting suspended above the whirlpool bath, Sunshine Daydreams conjures “A State of Mind” seldom found these days.

We thoroughly enjoyed our short getaway at Longing for Home. The B&B exceeded our expectations in every way. Stephanie was a wonderful hostess, and her breakfasts were so delicious and bountiful that no lunch was needed. Longing for Home is a beautiful, peaceful place, and we will be repeat customers.

I feel that I need to explain why I didn't give a higher rating. The physical location and our room were beautiful. But the air conditioning was broken, and it was 80 degrees in our room, making it very difficult to rest. I contacted the inn keeper and was told to adjust the thermostat. Duh! Already did that! I might have felt better about the situation if we had been offered a partial refund.
We apologize for the discomfort you experienced during your recent stay due to the loss of our a/c system and for the inadequate response given when the situation was reported. We made every effort to have the system repaired during your stay and regret that this was not accomplished. We also intended to give you a partial refund, however, my father was in ICU at the same time and we focused all our attention on him at the time. Thank you for bringing this oversight to our attention. We are issuing a refund for one night, additionally you will receive a gift certificate for a one night stay at either of our locations (Longing For Home or Limestone House). In order to insure the comfort of our future guests, we are setting our heating and a/c systems on a seasonal maintenance schedule. Thank you for your patronage and we hope you will consider our bed and breakfasts in your future travel plans.

My wife and I absolutely loved the place. It was quiet, out of the way, close enough to town for shopping, but only expect antique shopping. It is a small town, very small. The host couple are the sweetest people you will ever meet, they have fantastic stories, great food and fantastic coffee. The grounds are lovely and well kept, and the rooms are quaint and spacious. The bathtub is amazing!

Hospitality at its finest. Our bed was amazing. It was the first time I have ever slept in a bed I liked more than my own! Hadn't slept on a Sleep Number bed before but now I think we just might be in the market for one. I always have pain in the mornings, but not at Longing For Home. I think the thread count on the sheets was about a million! Slept better than I have in years! Betty and Bill made us feel so at home and we thoroughly enjoyed hearing the history, spiced with Bill's wit and humor, of the area. Betty spoiled us each morning with a delicious three-course breakfast. (I need all her recipes.) The little town is full of delightful surprises and we are planning to go back for a visit as soon as possible! Next time, we hope to use the pool, porch swing and hot tub! We may even opt to stay on the "sleeping porch!" May God bless Betty and Bill. These two definitely found their niche as hosts of this wonderful B & B.
