Cobb Lane Bed and Breakfast

This place is smack dab in tge middle of Birmingham. Just outside of downtown, next to UAB, 5 points, near Lakeview, close to the Highway, the Vulcan and a neat lil art district. And its cheap! It is an old house so you cant be loud. Breakfast was awesome. We got to know everyone staying in the house. They had complimentary sodas and waters in the downstairs fridge which im sure the guests could also use. Free Wi-Fi. TV. Antiques. Homemade cookies. Good stuff. They need to dust/clean under the bed though. It had been a while. The rest of the room was clean.

This was our second time staying at Cobb Lane and we were not disappointed! We are going back next month and taking 3 other family members with us. Looking forward to it!

We recently stayed at the Cobb Lane B&B. This 19th century home has lots of character and personality. The rooms are very warm and cozy. The host, Sheila, is a friendly and gracious host (we never saw her husband however). There were always homemade cookies in the front room - very dilicious varieties. The breakfasts were nice - although I am not prone to eating scrambled eggs every day (perhaps this is a southern thing). Breakfast was ample - you never left feeling hungry - and was served fresh out of the kitchen. The other guests of the B&B were a delight to talk to during breakfast - it's always nice to meet people from other parts of the country. I would recommend Cobb Lane Bed and Breakfast to anyone wanting to get away from the usual hotels.

Zebra Room was affected by very loud partiers at 2:30am coming from a Cobb Lane NightClub. Also, the Innkeeper rapped at our door after 9pm to deliver a rose in a vase to welcome us. While a nice gesture, it was a little late to be visiting.

Every thing was above expectations, clean with very nice decoration. Good breakfast served in a luxurious dining room.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay . The room was beautiful and very comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and the company delightful. Cobb Lane is conveniently located near the medical district, shopping and restaurants. We would definitely stay there again.

Good location, and great front porch, somewhat compromised by police station and school close by. Drinks available all times and fine breakfast (served at 7 a.m.) with good clientele. Rooms a bit on heavier, over decorated side, but quiet.

We stayed over for only one night, but found the home dripping with southern charm. The table was set especially beautiful for the breakfast, and it was delicious! If I come to Birmingham, I will stay there again.

We stayed at Cobb Lane for our one year anniversary. We are actually from the Birmingham area but we wanted to do a little something for our anniversary without having to drive far or spend a lot of money. Cobb Lane was PERFECT! We stayed in the Zebra room. Very private and cozy. We spent the evening sipping wine on the front porch then we walked down to 26 for a wonderful dinner. The location is very convenient to several restaurants so you don't have to worry about driving anywhere. It was a perfect way to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. Thank you Cobb Lane for making our anniversary so special. :)

Staying at Cobb Lane Bed and Breakfast was a wonderful experience. My boyfriend and I did not get into Birmingham until late that night, but the owners set aside special instructions for us to get into our room past check-in time. We stayed in the Zebra Room, which has a private entrance through the back porch. It was Wonderfully decorated with private bath and modern shower. The next morning we were served a simple country breakfast on fine china, and met some very interesting people who had stayed in the other rooms. There is also parallel parking slots for guests in the driveway, which was nice since the B &B is located downtown. If you are looking for a spacious getaway that is conveniently located near UAB, this is the place to stay! Would definitely recommend to anyone and everyone!

The Cobb Lane B&B, located in the Historic Five Points area of Birmingham and just a few blocks from the UAB campus, was a wonderful experience. Spent two nights there in early March and looking forward to returning. The hosts, Shelia and Ira, were absolutely wondeful, kind and entertaining. Breakfast was great, and both mornings I enjoyed extended breakfast visits with other guests and Ira and Shelia. In the evening the beautiful front porch provided the perfect setting for a post dinner extended visit with my UAB student-daughter. Was amazed at the ecletic dining and pubs within a short two block walk. It was all that one could ask for in a B&B in an urban setting or any setting for that matter. I enjoyed two early morning walks, as well as a late night meander, lots of beautiful sites, interesting architecture, and completely safe.

We stayed in the Southern Magnolia Suite Valentines night. We could not have enjoyed any more than we did. Our hosts and staff were very accomodating and made our stay very pleasurable. Our room was very nice and the bottle of champagne waiting for us on the bed just added to the experience. We walked about a block to a restaurant for our dinner. We had an incredible breakfast the next morning in the dinning room with other guests. This definitely added to the experience. We will definitely return and recommend Cobb Lane B&B to others.

I booked a reservation at The Cobb Lane B&B for Valentine's Day day for my boyfriend and I. I have always wanted to stay at one, and I thoroughly enjoyed my first experience at Cobb Lane! They offer 7different rooms with their own themes. We stayed in the Camelia room which was very nice and filled with beautiful Victorian accents. I plan on visiting this B&B again very soon and trying a different themed room. The staff was very friendly, the location is close to everything in the Southside area of Birmingham which was very convenient for our V-Day celebration! I give this place 5 stars!!! Beautiful house and rooms; walking distance to evening dining options (plus UAB). Breakfast was good, but not exceptional as at some other B&B's. Note weekday breakfast is at 7:00 am. Check in was easy, even though the Innkeeper was away and not available until the morning. Nice place, good stay.

The Cobb Lane B&B was nice, clean, and felt very safe (its across the street from the police station). Its in a great location to the Five Points area and is walkable to several restaurants/shops. We stayed in the Periwinkle room and the TV in the closet was a little unnecessary. A flat screen TV in the main large dresser would be a nice and easy upgrade. The dressed mannequin in the room as a little strange, and all the dresser surfaces were filled so there wasn't as much room to put our things. The food was good, but not great. Our room was extremely hot during the night, even when the hallways were a comfortable temperature. According to the other guests in that room, there was an issue with the temperature in that room being too cold. Overall, we enjoyed our first Bed and Breakfast experience.

I used to live in Birmingham, Alabama near this bed and breakfast. I always thought it was the cutest house but never had a reason to stay there since I already lived close by. Since then, I have relocated to Dallas, Texas but came back to celebrate my birthday in Birmingham with friends. Two of our favorite places in Birmingham are J. Clyde and Blue Monkey which are practically in the backyard of Cobb Lane B&B. The owner was incredibly helpful and friendly making our stay very enjoyable. We missed our alarm so weren't able to be down when breakfast was served so she sweetly placed a note on our door to inform us that she had left coffee and juice on the table and our plates of food covered in the kitchen. This was very thoughtful and appreciated. We felt immense amount of privacy and the rooms are beautifully decorated. I definitely recommend staying here if you are in Birmingham.

Recent overnight stay - very clean, comfortable. Excellant choice for someone needing to be close to the UAB hospital/university campus.

The company over breakfast was delightful, and my room was very comfortable and lovely. I notice now that the description of the room I had (Camelia) indicates there's cable television, but I never saw a TV anywhere, even in the living room.

I made a last minute reservation and arrived at 8 pm. The owner met me at the door, gave me my key and the lay of the land. I had plans for the evening and had no problems coming back to my room later that night. The inn is tucked away in a neighborhood that is located close to downtown and UAB, close to Birmingham's Five Points entertainmant district and close enough to walk to a number of resturants. The room was good and the breakfast was good and on time. The owner had my bill and directions to my meeting ready for me at breakfast. I would stay there again without hesitation.

This was our first B&B experience. We really enjoyed our stay in such a beautiful home. We had fun looking at all of the "collectables" as well as meeting and visiting with the other guests. This was our son's idea, an escape from the chaos after a busy Thanksgiving Day. It was a good suggestion and I am sure we will return again.

I was at Cobb Lane Bed and Breakfast this past weekend with two other couples. We stayed upstairs in the Periwinkle Room. (or the wedding dress room) We had an unbelievable experience driven mainly by our developing relationship with Sheila Chaffin. (the owner and innkeeper) She is a true lady. A New Yorker that is truely a "southern bell". She ate breakfast with our group and was so very delightful. Can't wait to return! Scott Neal

Arrived for late check-in. Everything was waiting. Breakfast was great. Definately would stay here again! Innkeepers were wonderful!

We did enjoy our stay here, don't get me wrong, but there were a few things that stuck out as sort of...not as expected. First, I specifically asked if there was a tv in our room. We were planning on being there at 3pm for check-in and were planning on enjoying just lounging around before dinner, then coming back and enjoying our room, watch a little tv and relax together. Technically there was a TV...in the closet, around the corner from the bed where you can't see it. Secondly, the rooms were a little smaller than what we perceived from the pictures. All in all, it was a nice stay, and would be awesome if you are passing through and need a comfortable bed and a breakfast to eat. Or, if you're looking for a nice place to come and read a book maybe. But, if you're wanting a place to come relax, watch some TV...this isn't where you wanna go. Located directly across the street from the Police department and right near restaurants and bars, it's a great location. Breakfast is a tad early for people who want to sleep in a little, but it's pretty good and the owner sits down and talks with you so that was nice.

We appreciate the several compliments in this review. With regard to the TV, we're not sure which guest this was, but in their profile they stated they've never stayed at a Bed and Breakfast before. They may not be aware that many Bed and Breakfasts don't have TVs. We however, have TV's in all of our rooms which are viewable from the beds, with exception of Southern Magnolia honeymoon suite, where one views from a chair like you would in your living room. We hope they'll come again, identify themselves as wishing to view TV from their bed, and we'll be happy to arrange a beautiful room for their enjoyment. We thank them for coming!

Food and service was good. Rooms a little dusty, but beds were excellent.

Overall the house is OUTSTANDING... BUT... We were disappointed with the MESS around the house and repair needed in our room. Patio Table outside our room had no glass in it... Patio table on side of house had stuff laying on it... 30 minutes worth of outside work would really allow the house to shine! Instead of looking dirty... Our room had a damaged door frame.. Again a few nails... ALL THESE ARE MINOR THINGS!! WE DID ENJOY OUR STAY VERY MUCH!!! WE WILL STAY THERE AGAIN!!!

Our room was in need of a good dusting, lacked screens when we needed fresh air due to inadequate AC and offered a shower in need of grout and removal of scale deposits on the shower head. The breakfast, although early at 7 a.m., was well prepared and the cookies which were always available in the living room were wonderful.

I had a guest coming in from out of town and she has been wow'd by Hollywood so a normal hotel simply wouldn't do. I wanted something that was unique to Birmingham. The graciousness of the Ira and Sheila (even from afar) was nothing short of stellar. I will definitely keep the Cobb Lane B&B on my list for future guests and might even steal away some time for myself sooner than later.

We arrived late, around 9:30 and still received a VIP welcome. Loved the idea of having a private entrance to our room which was extremely clean and well decorated for its name (the Zebra Room). As we arrived we quickly needed a cab, Ira called a cab service and had him there in time to arrive at our destination on time. Woke up to a beautifully set dinning table and chatted with other friendly guest while being served a delicious breakfast! This is a great place for a quick getaway. It has a great location with great bars and restuarants within walking distance. If you are a beer lover the the J Clyde is a must. It is a pub with an endless beer list as well as great food. The breakfast at the Cobb Lane B&B is fantastic.

We had a lot of fun choosing furnishings and decorating the place after its 1.5 year renovation to restore it to its 1898 charm and save it from urban destrauction after we bought it in 2003. A brief 1/2 block from the Inn, is Ocean's Restaurant, at corner of 20th St South and 13th Ave South. The food critics recent book rates one of their desserts as the "number one best dish" in Birmingham. It is delicious! We're glad these guests found Ocean's and enjoyed it as we do also. We stayed 2 nights at the Cobb Lane B&B and had high expectations from previous reviews and their website. Our room was the Rose room on the first floor and we didn't realize it would be right in front of the dining room which wasn't ideal. To top that off, it had 2 large pocket doors that joined in the middle as an entrance, and they did not close all the way which left about a half inch gap all the way up so the doors were "open" to the whole ground floor. The owner had put a giant curtain on the inside of the room to try and address this it seems, but no privacy was possible even with this curtain. Anybody in the dining room or walking around could hear everything going on in our room and see in if the curtain wasn't drawn. So much for a romantic anniversary weekend! The room was nice looking and clean and had some definite charm but the bathroom fixtures were old and not very nice. There were no bathrobes and the towels were thin and not fluffy at all. Also there were a lot of "breakables" scattered around the room which made it difficult to use the furniture to lay out our belongings and the electrical in the room was scary! The bedside lamp plug actually sparked and almost burned us when we plugged it in! There were few plugs to put phone chargers which wasn't helpful, had to charge in the bathroom. The breakfast left much to be desired, a plate of cold eggs and bacon or sausage with a little fruit and a bread item. Cookies were definitely from a mix and nothing felt "homemade." The price per night was pretty cheap and I guess you get what you pay for. Overall a really disappointing experience.

We appreciate all of our guests who come to our National Historic Registered property built in 1898. Their patronage helps keep alive this National asset for the next generation. We pleasantly remember these guests who enjoyed home made pumpkin scones, local fresh grown fruits, eggs, sausage, bacon, and our home made sausage croissant bake. Each day we had homemade chocolate chip, swedish wedding, and peanut butter cookies for their enjoyment in the front parlor under a glass case. The cookies were not from a mix, but baked fresh by our staff. Often guests remark about the pleasant cookie aroma in the Inn during the afternoons as they stop by the kitchen to sample some. The Rose Room was chosen by these guests at our web-site reservation system, which has the caption "located on main level across from the Dining Room". They did not express any concern about their room location as they checked in, had they done so, we might have been able to relocate them within the Inn at that time. The Rose Room is charming with its original 1898 double doors as noted in the National Historic registration about the Inn. Perhaps we didn't explain well enough about how to close the door which is the source of their comment. The Inn has 100% new electrical wiring from its 2004 renovation, supervised by City building inspectors. After these guests left, we noticed an extension chord at a bed side table had worn out during our inspection, it was quickly replaced, all is well. We would have happily done so while they were here, had they mentioned it. It is our management goal for our guests to be pleased by their stay. We invite future guests to please speak with us if they have questions, suggestions, or any concerns.

50 yrs ago (Aug. 1961) I was one of several college students residing at the boarding house that is now Cobb Lane Bed & Breakfast. I returned on Aug. 2, 2011 to find my former room had been transformed into part of what is now the beautiful and elaborate Southern Magnolia Suite. My wife and I truly enjoyed our stay here and the southern breafkast was delicious.

This was a truly remarkable guest to come back after 50 years to see the place in its new life as a Bed and Breakfast. Sometimes others drop by who used to come to this location when it was a realtor office, Kaplan testing prep counselor, a Ballet shop, Christian family couunseling center, and for a massage! One time an elderly nephew of the 1898 Owner who had been inside in its original condition visited with assitance of his family. His remarks were precious to us, especially after our heavy investment to restore the building to its Victorian origin.

Cobb Lane B&B was a fantastic place to stay - a good location with lots of character, and wonderful hosts in Ira and Sheila. The inn is close to five points, a lively part of town for eating and drinking, and also in close proximity to downtown and other attractions. Rooms were clean, well kept, and full of charm. Breakfast each morning was a bonus, as were the cookies in the parlour room which were far too tempting to nibble on everyday!

Stayed in the Rose Room. Loved the Victorian decor. Bed was comfortable, breakfast was wonderful. Enjoyed talking to other guest at breakfast.

I stayed for a night at Cobb Lane and had a lovely stay. The house is beautifully and meticulously styled in period furniture. There is lots of public space to relax in, as well as a wrap-around porch. Located in the Five Points neighborhood, many restaurants are within walking distance (about 5 minutes). I stayed in the Camellia room, which is located on the main floor. It was very spacious and well-equipped with anything that I might have needed. The only issue was that the room is located directly across from the kitchen which receives a lot of foot traffic. I'm sure that breakfast was fantastic, but it was served at 7:00 AM! I find this to be a tad bit early for my taste. All in all, I had a a fantastic visit. I definitely recommend it!

We truly enjoyed our nights stay at Cobb Lane B&B! We stayed in the lovely Rose room which was furnished and decorated in tasteful Victorian pieces and colors. The bathroom was nicely done and larger then expected in a converted space. the Innkeepers were very nice and the food was good, but not great. Overall a solid B+

Everything was clean and comfortable, and it's in a great location, easy to get to anything in downtown Birmingham. Breakfast was delicious and Ira offered to save it for us if we wanted to get up late. We will stay again soon.

If you like Victorian / Victoriana decor with a splash of Country French, this is the place to go. The house is spacious and elegantly decorated. The porches are large and airy. The hosts are gracious and after check-in we came and went as we pleased. We stayed in the Periwinkle room, which turned out to be light and airy and well-sized with its own attached bathroom. The picture on the website just didn't do it justice. The breakfast was communal sit-down at the dining table (not a buffet or serve-yourself) with fine china - gorgeous and tasty. Sheila was pleasant company and most helpful in telling us about the area, and where to go to eat. The area seemed safe to walk around in, though we didn't personally venture out after dark. I appreciated the cookies, water, and soft drinks our hosts provided for us. We didn't use the WiFi. The only thing that was a bit different was that the cable TV was in the closet, to preserve the decor and ambiance. Luckily we could watch it from our bed - in some of the other rooms, that wasn't possible - you'd have to sit in a chair or on the floor or something. Definately a great place to go and relax, especially if you want to get away from it all for a while. It was very quiet and peaceful.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The innkeeper, Ira, was very friendly and helpful as were other members of staff we encountered. Breakfast was good - freshly cooked and tasty. In the main house, there is a little kitchen guests can use, and the fridge is stocked with complimentary cold drinks - a very good idea and much apppreciated. We stayed in a room at the back of the house with it's own little entrance. It was quite nice, but a little disappointing. The room itself was quite cold, and not very cosy. There wasn't really anywhere to put any clothes or anything either. It was however, very clean and the bed was very, very comfortable. The bathroom was quite nicely laid out and was also very clean. I would definitely stay here again, and would recommend this B&B without hesitation, but I would stay in the main house next time.

Stayed for 3 days, charming environment, breakfast with the other guests was a highlight of each day, Innkeepers are interesting, intelligent, witty and a pleasure to spend time with. Will stay there again (and they are opening a sister property 2 blocks away soon! I'll definitely try that when it's open.)

If you want to feel like you've just stepped onto Plantation Tara, then this is your destination! An absolute blast from the past-charming, charming, charming-and did I mention charming? Will absolutely return. Sheila and Ira are the best!

We recently stayed with our 2 children at the Cobb Lane Bed and Breakfast and could not have been happier. The innkeepers were exceedingly friendly, welcoming our children with fresh baked cookies after a long drive. The rooms were immaculate and interestingly decorated with eclectic antiques and period pieces. As well, the breakfasts were delicious and accomodated our special food needs. A highlight for us was visiting Ira Chaffin's carousel horse carving and sculpting studio --it was both informative and fascinating. One other special touch I wanted to point out that others may not mention is the complimentary beverages in the refrigerator set aside for guests' use. After becoming all too familiar with paying $2.50 for a bottle of water in most hotels, it was refreshing to see this minor attention to detail that said to me that the innkeepers really care about the comfort of their guests. Lovely alternative to a hotel in a big city environment. Great location - alking distance to great restaurants. Room was nicely decorated & well-appointed. My only complaint - 7:00am breakfast serving - no flexibility on time & no choice on breakfast foods.

Beautiful decorating. Magnolia Suite nice with sitting room and private bath. Bed and pillow a little firm for me, but ok. Random ambient noise includes motorcycles, bar patrons, helicopters. Food excellent and Ira and Sheila, are both cordial and friendly. Overall 8/10. Would definitely stay again.

My husband and I were looking for a great place to stay close to dining & entertainment, with a great price to boot. This place has it all! We stayed in the Zebra Room (arrived Wednesday, left Friday), which had its own exterior entrance away from the main traffic of the rest of the house... and it turned out to be perfect for us. The owners were very accomodating and allowed us to arrive late evening (around 9pm), and still took the time to show us around and walk us through a map of Birmingham (Thanks, Ira!). After a long day at work followed by a long drive to Birmingham, we overslept and missed breakfast. When we left our room to find a place to eat, a note on our door said breakfast was being kept for us upstairs! We so appreciate the staff for a wonderful one-of-a-kind stay. We highly recommend Cobb Lane Bed & Breakfast, and hope to visit again soon!

My daughter and I took a quick trip to Birmingham; a girl's getaway.The B&B was quite delightful.

I really liked the location and feel of Cobb Lane. Heads up! The Zebra room can be very cold (I visited in March). Good for snuggling :-), but the space heater did not make a difference. Other than the temperature (of which I received fair warning prior to booking), everything else was lovely. The morning breakfast and discussion was refreshing. On the second morning we did not make it to breakfast...it was very impressive to find our breakfast waiting for us in the kitchen. The service was impeccable. I would reccommend it to everyone.

I am one of 12 ladies from 4 states who met here for a " Girl Weekend". We were thrilled with the whole B&B experience we received at Cobb Lane. Ira and Shelia were the perfect host and hostess and made our stay extra special there. Sung prepared scrumpions breakfasts and attended to our every need. We had the whole house so it was the perfect setting for us to relax and enjoy ourselves. We are planning a return!

The experience of a island vacation in the middle of Birmingham, AL was spectacular. The anticipation of arriving at the B&B was nerve wrecking but once we stepped into the front door of the home the decor takes you back in time. Our room was the Zebra and it was more than I expected. My friend actually fell to his knees. We were blown away by the warm feeling of the room and the breakfast was icing on the cake. Sheila was soooo Wonderful! I highly recommend this stay for couples. If your love needs fire I highly suggest this B&B. We will definitely make this anniversary for next year.

I was turning 40 and decided to give the Cobb Lane B&B a chance to make my 40th birthday extra special with some of my girlfriends! Four of us stayed in the two-room suite at the end of the hall upstairs and to our surprise, we had a nice little balcony to sit on and drink wine in the evening and coffee the next morning after breakfast. I slept in the Marie Antoinette room. There was no room for our luggage anywhere (because of the dress mannequin with the huge dress on it in one corner and the other corner full of porcelain baby dolls). Despite that, the rooms were very nice, especially if you like Victorian decor! The owner was wonderful and so accomodating and made me feel very special. I was also pleased with how clean the place was despite it being a very old house with very old antiques and furnishings. The breakfast on Sunday morning was delicious. When we retired upstairs to our little balcony, the owner sent up a fresh pot of coffee and ginger cookies for us to enjoy. A nice touch. I will definitely be back with my husband next time...if he can stand all the frou-frou and dolls everywhere!

We enjoyed our visit to Birmingham. Cobb Lane is conveniently located and sitting on the porch visiting with guests is always a pleasure.

I recently stayed at Cobb Lane B&B for a business trip. The accommodations are very convenient to UAB and within a few blocks of a number of places to eat. The room was clean, quiet and Ira was very hospitable. I'll definitely stay next time I'm there to visit UAB.

This was our first time ever staying in a B&B and we will definitely try to stay in them exclusively if we are not taking our children with us. The host was friendly and was able to make us all feel at home, which is not easy when a bunch of strangers sit down for b'fast together. The accomodations were lovely and the food was delicious. Amazing weekend!!

Our visit to Cobb Lane B&B was pleasant, thanks to our friendly and interesting hosts. If you enjoy the bed and breakfast experience, we encourage you to stay with the innkeepers, Sheila and Ira Chaffin, whenever you are in or near Birmingham, Alabama. The inn itself is pleasant to look at and well appointed, however our room (the Zebra room) did not have its own heating system, so we were very cold. The thermometer on the inadequate space heater in the room never got past 67 degrees despite being turned to the maximum setting for our entire stay. If you appreciate heat, you may prefer one of the rooms in the main portion of the property. The breakfast was advertised as a elegant, and it was indeed. The setting was comfortable, and our host, Ira, provided wonderful service and interesting conversation. Be sure to ask him about his sculpting; he's a wonderful artist. We thank Ira and Sheila for a very pleasant stay and wish them all the best in their fascinating ventures.

The location of this B&B couldn't be better. My husband and I were able to walk less than a block to get drinks and to our restaurant. The service was also excellent. Since we were not there on business and did not want to have breakfast at 7am, Ira brought us breakfast in bed at 9:00. They really went out of the way to make our stay perfect.

My first B & B experience was wonderful. Room comfortable, breakfasts surprisingly filling and served tastefully amid fun company, setting ideal in historic Birmingham district, decorations interesting throughout the inn, lobby/sitting room and deck great for receiving "guests of guests", hosts very accommodating in every way. Only minor criticism concerns lack of dusting (e.g baseboards and knick-knacks)

I was recently in Birmingham on business, and I stayed 4 nights at Cobb lane. I was in a hurry when I made my reservations and didn't realize that I had put the wrong date in for my arrival. I arrived one day earlier than they were expecting me, but Sheila Chaffin was very understanding and accomodated me without any complaint. This B & B is in the heart of the city and is in walking distance of the historic 5 points south area which offers a wide variety of restaurants and clubs to check out. It was also the perfect location to learn my way around the city. Anything I needed was just a phone call away and the breakfast was served on time which was important to me since I had a strict time schedule. I chose the smaller less expensive bedroom, but still found it a charming room, though a little chilly at night. The house is beautifully decorated, and by staying there, you can receive a bit of an education about its history and the history of birmingham. Overall, I enjoyed my stay and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a centrally located B & B at a very reasonable price.

The Zebra suite was quaint and clean. Breakfast was brought to the room and was outstanding. There are maintenance items and painting that need to be done. Porch furniture on both levels need attention. We enjoyed the direct outside access from the Zebra Suite. The queen bed was sufficient but with the wrap around couch it made getting in and out of bed on the wall side an adventure. Having said this, we would stay there again.

The home and decor reflect an era that had a much slower pace than we experience in today's hectic lifestyle. Although we were only overnight guest, we enjoyed our stay in the Magnolia Room very much. Breakfast was fantastic; enjoying the conversation with Ira and guest while eating amazing pancakes. After we checked out we visited with Ira at his art studio/classroom and learned much about bronzing and wood carving. Really enjoyed seeing the carousel horses carved out by Ira's students. Our stay was cozy and warm. Ira and Sheila are wonderful hosts and the home is exquisite. Reasonably priced for a parents "night out."

This was my second stay at Cobb Lane, and I found it easy, relaxing and restful. As my husband and I like to walk, not drive, the location was perfect for strolls around the Five Points area, home to fine dining restaurants as well as other interesting places, such as the owner's sculpture and wood-carving studio, just down the hill. We live just 100 miles away and will definitely come back to Cobb Lane on other Birmingham excursions.

Certainly enjoyed the company and conversation of the owners as well as that of other guests! And the cookies were GREAT!!

Why stay in a hotel? This place is right in the heart of downtown, within walking distance of many good restaurants and UAB, and has a police station nearby. Felt very safe and comfortable. Room was great. Hosts were very helpful when asked. I would stay here again.

Went to B'ham to see family the location is excellent. It's in the best part of town , located walking distance from the best night spots in town.Very secure area ,just across the street from police station. The house was in excellent condition and furnished beautifully. The host were pleasant and seemed interested in the guest.

This B&B made Birmingham so much more fun! The city itself is cute, but the B&B is spectacular. The breakfast was devine; we couldn't wait to get up each morning and see what they would serve next! The house is in the perfect location since its surrounded by great restaurants and music. We stayed in the Camelia Room and it was very comfortable. I highly recommend Cobb Lane Bed and Breakfast if you are staying in Birmingham!

I spent only one night at Cobb Lane because of flight problem that made me arrive 2 days late at Birmingham. The place was full of details, decorations were beatiful. My room was very cozy and comfortable, it had everything I needed and everything worked to perfection. I really enjoyed the plush bathroom in my room. I stayed in the Periwinkle room.

This is a lovely B and B in a great location, near 5 Points in Birmingham. I would stay there again.

In room temperature adjustments were not available. It must have been 80 degrees in our room. Everything else was wonderful.

My husband and I had a two night stay, as well as held our wedding at Cobb Lane. I could not have asked for a more beautiful wedding. The innkeepers and their staff are amazing and very nice. We loved every moment we were there and will be back as often as we can! Thanks again Cobb Lane!

We stayed only a night but this B and B made for an excellent 24 hours -- we were on a civil rights tour of the south and wanted to see the Civil Rights Institute, 16th St Baptist Church and Kelsey Park -- all easily reachable from the Cobb Lane B and . Plus walking distance to great restaurants, and easy parking. Imaginative decor, a good breakfast, friendly hosts. from Cinda and Dan, Barbara and Rufus.

Beautiful B&B within a short walk of Five Points dining area. Service was great as owners are very hands on. Lovely rooms and common areas and a very nice breakfast. The only negative I had was the really tight parking but I would definitely put up with that to return to this oasis.

We recently stayed at Cobb Lane B & B. It was an outstanding experience. We booked the Rose Room and it was exquisite. Sheila was a great hostess, and breakfast was both beautiful and delicious. We would highly recommend this B & B.

The inn is lovely, the inkeeper, Sheila Chaffin, is kind, professional, and hospitable. The food at breakfast is fabulous, the fresh-baked cookies in the afternoon are to die for. I have only three negative things to say about our experience there. (1) The beds, while clean and covered with beautiful linens and bedclothes, are hard and very uncomfortable. I realize some people love hard beds but since I like soft well-cushioned beds, I had a really difficult time getting a good night's sleep. (2) The place was sparking clean in the ways that really matter to a guest. The bedding, table linens and serving ware, and the bathrooms were wicked clean. But it is really difficult to get all the dust and spider webs out when there is so much Victorian frou-frou everywhere, such as picture frames and mirror frames with lots of elaborate carvings, and delicate glass light fixtures. This was occasionally distracting. (3) This is not the innkeeper's fault but on Saturday night the noise and music from a nearby popular nightspot on Cobb Lane behind the inn was quite loud and did not subside until about 2:00 AM. My son was staying in another room at the inn and could not hear the noise, which probably affects mainly those staying in rooms on the upper floors on the backside of the lovely old home. Keep this in mind when you make your reservations if such noises bother you and stay in the rooms more towards the lower floors and the front of the inn.

We stayed there as part of a weekend trip to do the Richard Petty Driving Experience. There were two couples traveling, so we stayed at their guest condo instead of the main house (which is right next door). The main house is much nicer, but also more expensive. I would definatley recommend staying there instead of the guest condo if you only need one room or are only there for one or two nights. The innkeeper was very informative. And the location was great to walk somewhere close for dinner. There were homemade cookies for us in the parlor which was a nice touch. We could use the main house sitting area to visit if we wanted and that was also where we ate breakfast. The condo was very clean--but the bathroom sink would get stuck on the door opening and closing and the fiberglass tub was not something I was particularly crazy about. (The bath could use a remodel.) The beds and furnishings were done as an attempt to match the home next door and were very comfortable. The breakfast was very good and was just the right amount. It eggs with fruit and a crescent pastry filled with sausage and cream cheese. I would stay there again and would recommend the Cobb Lane to my friends.

Despite the facility needing a facelift, I enjoyed my stay. The hosts are always courteous and friendly. The room I had upstairs was very hot - slept with the window open all night. I like the Rose Room the best.

Lovely bed and breakfast in a quiet area, close to restaurants and sites. Breakfast is early (7am) but understandable as both Sheila and Ira have other jobs. The food was delicious and it gave us time to chat and I'm glad I made the effort to get up!

This bed and breakfast is fabulous! We booked all the rooms for my wedding party to stay the weekend. My wedding was at the Rucker Place which is right down the road from the b&b. It made our stay so convenient. The historic atmosphere fit perfectily with my wedding theme. Sheila was so helpful and nice as we planned our weekend stay there. Her husband and the rest of the staff were wonderful! They helped plan and carry out our bridal brunch while we all got ready for the wedding. They had a perfect room upstairs for all of us to get ready in. Every aspect of our staying was outstanding! The food was delicious! This place is far more beautiful in person than in the pictures! The hospitality and personal attention was extraordinary! I would highly recommend staying here!

all the comforts are there and always lots of company and so close to diners and other good places to eat and the bed was made for me ...

This b and b was a step back in time. The house and furniture reminded me of my great grandmother's house. My room was the rose room which I thoroughly enjoyed (the foto on the website does it justice). The breakfast was yummy; the guests were interesting and courteous; I could easily walk to UAB; and I could walk to a neighborhood restaurant, get a take out, and enjoy it on the front porch of the b and b as I watched the rain. It was a delightful stay.
