I had a doctor appt at the VA Hospital and this location was so close I could walk there. Friendly innkeeper and wonderful breakfast. They were very accommodating. Would stay here again!

We had the Hera's Lift room. The room and the house were beautifully decorated and the service was great. We had the room for the day before and our wedding night and Ms Chaffin was so nice and so accommodating. We highly recommend staying here. You will not be disappointed.

I overall enjoyed my stay. The room was clean and comfortable and it was located in close proximity to restaurants and bars.
Blue Serenity Suite at HASSINGER DANIELS MANSION BED AND BREAKFAST We understand this was your first, or one of your first, stays in a Bed and Breakfast. We appreciate you making a review and glad that you liked the nearby 41 restaurant and evening entertainment venues. The Inn is 2 blocks from University of Alabama Birmingham and nationally recognized hospitals. It is an interesting historic district with plenty of things to do. Thank you for coming!

A+ guest service ! We loved your review. THANK YOU for being our guest.

My visit was only a day but I fell completely in love with this bed and breakfast. As soon as you drive up to the house you feel like you are going back in time. The owners are very lovely and accommodating and make you feel completely at home. There's even a fresh batch of cookies on the foyer when you arrive. I was in awe of all the wonderful antiques and the furnishings in every room. Each room is completely different than the next but all are equal in beauty and comfort. In the morning when they serve breakfast ( which was delicious) you get to know all the people staying there in a relaxing atmosphere. My favorite part was the garden which had beautiful statues and flowers. I loved this place and would have definitely loved to stay way longer than a day.
HASSINGER DANIELS MANSION BED AND BREAKFAST So glad you enjoyed the Gazebo, Garden, and Classical sculptures. We understand Greek and Roman decorative arts were admired during the Victorian period so we included them in the 4 year restoration effort to bring back to life the 1898 National Historic Registered Hassinger Mansion. THANK YOU for being our guest!

I stayed here for a week and was extremely happy with my experience. The room was great, the service was great and the food was the best I've had at any bed and breakfast. Additionally, the location is very close to the 5 points area and cobb lane, which houses some of the best pubs and restaurants in Birmingham. Highly recommended and I plan to stay here next time I'm in Birmingham.
We appreciate our guests very much and thank you for staying a week. The Five Points Historic District where both of our Inns are located has been designated the "Culinary District" for the City of Birmingham. Four of the 41 restaurants in this district have Chefs who have been honored nationally with the coveted Beards Best Chef award -- Highland Bar and Grill and Chez Fon Fon (they are next door neighbors to HASSINGER DANIELS MANSION BED AND BEAKFAST), Bottega Café and Bottega Restaurants (4 blocks down Highland Ave from Hassinger Mansion) and Hot N Hot Fish Club (3 blocks down Highland Ave from Hassinger Mansion). There's a new Irish Pub and Restaurant "Buck Mulligan's" which opened across Highland Ave from Hassinger Mansion which is becoming very popular. They play games and have Bag pipes on certain days of the month. Perhaps you tried that one also. Please come again!

Not only did we have a wonderful stay but we learned interesting historical facts about the many antiques in the home, the building and the Victorian Era.
HASSINGER DANIELS MANSION BED AND BREAKFAST I'm an Architect and City Planner and was the Architect and General Contractor for restorations of our Cobb Lane BB and Hassinger Daniels Mansion BB. My husband Ira is a Sculptor and fine woodworker. We're glad you enjoyed the pamphlets and displays about historic architectural details. There are some really neat artifacts in my husbands Level I Art Studio about life in 1898. One wall is the "History of Electricity in Birmingham, AL". A see-through cover has been installed over the decades of electrical service improvements to the Mansion. Typically these artifacts are routinely removed by owners when new fangled electrical improvements are installed. The Mansion was initially gas lighted in 1898 until electrical service arrived circa 1908 on Highland Ave South. Owner William Hassinger and others fund raised with New York and Toronto wealthy investors and organized what became the Alabama Power Co. They dammed up the Warrior River for the first hydro electrical power. Initially electricity went to the Hassinger Iron works and Furnaces, then his street! Please come again.

Myself & my best friend stayed at the Hassinger Daniel Mansion in Birmingham, AL to attend a concert. We really enjoyed our stay. Mrs. Shelia was extremely nice, helpful, and served us well. We stayed in the Peacock room. The room was very calm & peaceful. I told my best friend I really didn't want to leave. I loved it!!! I would definitely stay here again.
Peacock Room HASSINGER DANIELS MANSION BED AND BREAKFAST These 2 friends were fun to have as guests. They liked the exotic themed décor of their Peacock Room which has a full strutting taxidermy Peacock in the bed crown. The Queen bed rests on a faux Leopard animal skin rug. They attended a Concert at Iron City, as I recall and had a nice time in downtown Birmingham. Both of our Inns are conveniently located to major Concert venues, such as: Lyric Theatre, Alabama Theatre, Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center at UAB, Wright Center at Sanford University, and Red Mountain Theatre. Please come again!

Wonderful stay, wonderful hospitality, beautiful room (Turret suite). Would definitely go back
Enchanting Turret Suite HASSINGER DANIELS MANSION BED AND BREAKFAST We love this review title "Perfect Trip". So glad you enjoyed your stay. Good selection of rooms to stay in our 1,200 square foot Honeymoon Suite with a 4 poster King size bed with bed scarves, the largest sitting room of all our Rooms, and a Queen size bed inside the architectural turret. It is about 24 feet from that bed to top of the turret point, a really cool experience to sleep inside one. Perhaps the only time you might experience this in your life time. We look forward to you coming again! THANK YOU.

Lovely as always!!
Blessed are the Return Guests. They are so precious to an Owner/Innkeeper since they keep the business going. Sometimes we over-hear them in the parlor telling first-timer guests where the best restaurants are, where to buy that precious gift for their loved one or the missing charger for their electronic device to save their presentation. Restoring and operating 120 year Mansions is a daunting task since there aren't grants to help, there aren't parts to purchase for what you need, and you're on your own. THANK YOU for your repeated patronage and support.

Wonderful hospitality in a beautiful house. Absolutly perfect
This is a review from one of our young adult guests. We are thankful they found us, have enjoyed their experience, and we hope they will be coming back. Bring your friends and family! THANK YOU.

My daughter and I were recent guests at the Hassinger Daniels mansion. Our stay was wonderful! We were in the Victorian Room, which was decorated beautifully. We also had their incredible breakfast! So delicious! This was my daughters first time staying here and she was quite impressed. My husband and I have been to the inn many times before and we can't think of a better place to stay when we visit Alabama!
Victorian Chamber Room HASSINGER DANIELS MANSION BED AND BREAKFAST This is a wonderful review with members of a family sharing with other members the experience of a BB. And they are Return Guests, which we regard as very precious. THANK YOU for who you are and for the warm affirmations in this review.

We could not have asked for a better experience. We paid about what we would have paid for Holiday Inn, Hampton, etc, but the atmosphere and customer service were so much better. The location in Five Points South allowed us to walk to the trendy spots we wanted to go. Everyone was wonderful.
Earlier I traveled extensively in my work, staying in hotels about 4 nights per week, and built-up huge frequent air traveler awards. There were only regular hotels at my business locations. When we decided to buy and restore 2 Victorian Mansions in the same historic district and give them new life as Bed and Breakfasts, we tried to make every guest room different, something for everyone. The rooms are arranged so a guest may retreat and rest away from others, or meet new friends in the common areas. Regular hotels don't always have these features. We are very pleased that this special guest liked what they experienced. Please come again!

My mother and I loved the Hassinger Daniels Mansion—the other property they own. The restoration is magnificent with authentic antiques. The place is extraordinary. The owners were both friendly and told us stories about the house and town. They made breakfast a communal experience getting us all talking and laughing. We thought the price was amazingly inexpensive for such a gorgeous place.

We had a wonderful stay with Sheila for Valentine's weekend. The house is beautiful and full of history, being built in 1898. The location is central to many great restaurants and night spots. From cookies when you arrive to the charming decor, this is a must visit B&B in Birmingham. The breakfast the next morning was light and lovely. It was a joy meeting fellow guests from around the US and globe. My wife and I both loved it and will definitely visit again.

We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful bed and breakfast. Everything was so elegant and the host was very kind and attentive. Breakfast was delicious and our room (Vulcan Vista) was very nice and spacious. Perfect getaway for our Valentines weekend. This location is right in the middle of 5 points which was perfect for walking to where you wanted to eat. We will definitely stay here again and recommend this B&B to our family and friends.

I stayed at the Victorian chamber and at the Vulcan Vista suite during a long stay at the Hassinger Daniels mansion. I loved both rooms, they are cosy. Sheila and Ira are wonderful, very kind and hospitable. The breakfast was amazing. The location is perfect, easily accessible to restaurants, bars and UAB. I recommend without a doubt

We stayed at the Hassinger Daniels mansion recently with friends for an in town vacation. Tons of fun was had by all. Ira and Sheila were gracious hosts and the food was fantastic. The bed in our room (Victorian) was the only downside. Very 'creaky' and the mattress had a distinct valley in the middle. Good thing we love each other! The lock on our room was also not a true lock as it could be opened with any key ( we found out by accident). The inn was exceptionally clean and we will return again - just maybe try a different room.
5 on February 03, 2016
Stayed there overnight while on a business trip. The owners were friendly and engaging. The home was beautifully decorated, and the room was comfortable, clean, and just lovely. The breakfast was GREAT!!
We value this review very much since it is from a Business Traveler who likely stays in many lodgings each year. It is our goal to please you with a different kind of experience. I remember a very busy executive guest who stayed at Cobb Lane Bed and Breakfast. It started to rain. He opened his bedroom window (something you can't do in a downtown high rise hotel) and put his face out to get it wet on purpose. He later told me how the stress of the day and pressure of the big presentation the next day just melted away at that moment. The Victorian Mansion and room brought back memories of staying with his beloved Grandmother when he was small. We hope you'll come back and try each of the rooms. They are all different -- 7 in Cobb Lane Bed and Breakfast, 10 in Hassinger Daniels Mansion Bed and Breakfast. THANK YOU for finding us!

My fiance and I started at The Hassinger Mansion on Jan 22 for the first time and it was beautiful. We loved the Camelot theme room and breakfast was amazing the next morning. We enjoyed so much that we are planning to be there for July 4th. I would give 10 stars!
Camelot Room HASSINGER DANIELS MANSION BED AND BREAKFAST I'm glad you liked the Camelot Horse in the bay window of Camelot Room. I carved and painted it. My work is also the cherubs in SERAFIM ROOM and the Hippogriff mythological piece in the Main Parlor. My Sculpture and Carousel Carving Studio is in Level I of Hassinger Mansion. Please come inside if you missed it on your earlier trip. July 4th is a fun time to come. The City shoots off fireworks from nearby Red Mountain. The Police close off the streets, people gather with lawn chairs in the roadways, all enjoy the spectacle of this annual ritual. Our guests have "ring-side" seats from our wrap around porch where we enjoy hot fudge sundaes while watching. Please join us!

I had my nine-year-old daughter with me for a doctor's appointment the next morning. We wanted something easily accessible to downtown, but something different that would lift our spirits. It was a beautiful, magical B&B. The owners were very hospitable and kind. Great for couples or a simple getaway. I highly recommend!

Second stay at second house owned by same couple. Good deal with previous stay coupon. House is well-kept, although bed could be more comfortable and breakfast is average. Hosts are pleasant and attentive. Location near bars and restaurants in Highland is good. Seating guests would have encouraged conversations and interaction.

The house is beautiful. Wonderful job of restoration. A bit cluttered with furniture and Knick knacks and a few rooms were a bit over the top with dolls and hats. No corner left un decorated! The breakfast was standard though served beautifully with China, crystal and silverware. There is no coffee for the early risers but there is a Starbucks nearby ( suggestion for innkeepers... A Keurig would be a nice addition to the kitchen). The bed was the downfall of the entire experience. There was no spring to the mattress and it was so tilted one tended to roll downhill. I actually thought about sleeping in my car the second night. The innkeepers were extremely accommodating and easy to work with. Overall the stay was average.
5 on August 16, 2015
Our trip didn't work as we hoped. My dad's flight to Birmingham was delayed 3 hours, and mine was cancelled altogether. The innkeeper stayed up waiting for my dad. Then when we got bad family news, the innkeeper was very very sympathetic and helpful. We are grateful for their kindness during a tough time.

We stayed the Hassinger Daniels Mansion this past week. The house is elegant, the décor impeccable and sometimes campy, the breakfast was scrumptious. We were glad we got there early, we had a chance to see all the rooms. Every room was different and a treat to tour. Cleanliness was no issue at this home, it was squeaky clean! The owners made sure every thing you could want was there. Birmingham restaurants were an easy walk and 5 Points was interesting but not as interesting as the mansion. The only suggestion I could make was a coffee maker for the guests to make their own in the evening. Some of us New Orleanians need a cup of coffee to help us sleep. ;)

Cobb Lane BB was our first experience. We enjoyed it and it's in a great location. I recommend this BB to everyone.

We were "upgraded" to the mansion. It was within walking distance of several nice restaurants which was nice. Sheila was an excellent and knowledgeable host and we had a wonderful breakfast in the morning with a number of very interesting international guests which was a real treat. My husband loved the experience and would love to stay again when we are in the area.

My wife and I greatly enjoyed our stay at the Hassinger Daniels Mansion B&B in Birmingham. We stayed in the Carousel Room which was very nice, clean, comfortable, and well maintained. We stayed at the partner property Hassinger Daniels Mansion. We only stayed one night. The location is great. The house beautiful. Room immaculately clean. Breakfast tasty. We only stayed one night, so this might not be the standard experience but on the whole the B&B seemed to be unstaffed during the day. We were earlier than our agreed check-in time, so in order to talk to a member of staff we had to phone a number given on the door. As we were visiting from Europe, we didn't have a working cell phone, so this was a problem. Eventually we got our mobile from home to work (at a cost of making a transatlantic call) to make contact. However as I say we were early, so perhaps staff would have been around later in the day if we had been on schedule. That said later in the day we needed to sort out booking a taxi to get to the airport in the morning, but lack of a phone at the B&B and no-one around to ask meant this ended up being more involved than you would imagine possible! The B&B has wifi throughout and so we could solve this problem eventually, but it was surprising how complicated this was to achieve without a local to ask or a local phone to use for a local call. In conclusion - fab place, great location, lovely breakfast make sure you have a working US cell phone!

I stayed at the Hassinger-Daniels House which is the "sister" B&B to Cobb Lane B&B from April 15-19, 2015. Sheila and Ira have restored the house and it is beautifully furnished and decorated. My room was lovely, the breakfasts were excellent and the company at breakfast was very pleasant. I would highly recommend a stay in this wonderful neighborhood.

The house is truly out of a bygone age. The antique furnishings and decorating will be an object of discussion as we remember our stay. The breakfast prepared by Ira was first class. In fact I would love to have the recipe for his sausage "quiche". Our next stay will be at their other property which looks as interesting. Thanks.

While we had a slight change in venue, from Cobb Lane Bed and Breakfast to its sister, Hessinger and Daniels House, everything was lovely. Sheila was present at the breakfast, and Ira gave us a tour of the wood carving studio. Our room, the Southern Belle, was large and lovely, complete with footed tub and a chandelier in every room! Loveliness everywhere you looked.

I booked our reservation at Cobb Lane and we were asked if we would like to up grade to their other B and B located near by. We agreed and our stay at the Hassenger Mansion was amazing. We stayed in the suite on the third floor- I realized I need to pack lighter for one night, but the house is beautiful. Breakfast was delicious and I was able to play the parlor game that morning - it was such an interesting experience. I was also able to tour the carousel carving school in the basement and it was exciting to see the beautiful pieces. My husband and I stay in Birmingham a few times a year for work- even if our conferences offer lodging on site I will stay at one of their establishments. If you are a history enthusiast it is a must!!

We stayed in Zebra Room on basement level so we could go out late and not disturb anyone. Private bath, quiet, separate entrance, clean, decorated more modern than the main rooms. Breakfast was great, sausage, eggs, juice, coffee, biscuits, fresh fruit. You can't beat the price for such a great location. Thanks Sheila and Ira!!! P.S. Try the Avondale Brewing Company (located in an old firehouse) and Post Office Pies (next to Avondale Brewing in an old post office) when you're in Birmingham. Couple mile drive from Cobb Ln.

My husband and I stay at the Cobb Lane B&B for our 1 year anniversary. Neither of us have ever stayed in Birmingham or at a B&B before. We both are spoiled now and loved the location. It was in walking distance of great restaurants and pubs. We also visited a few historical attraction on this weekend getaway. Everything was within a 20 minute drive. Ira was wonderful at the Lane. We will definitely be staying there again!

My girlfriend and I recently stayed a night at the Cobb Lane Bed and Breakfast. Though we were only in town for a quick getaway trip, our stay in this lovely house made it feel like home. Ira, one of the owners, was incredibly helpful from the moment we arrived. He showed us around the place and offered tips on local dining and sightseeing. Breakfast featured a packed house of 12 people from all over the world. We were all able to bond and share our stories - a memory I won't soon forget. Ira and Sheila deserve all the success this bed and breakfast has brought them - and will undoubtedly continue to bring them!

A second stay with these gracious hosts. We stayed in the Enchanting Turret Room and found everything to be comfortable. Ira showed us around the facility and Sheila joined us for breakfast and checkout. Such a charming place and the decor was outstanding. I can see how having a wood carver in the family adds to the restoration of such a place.

The rooms are lovely, clean and well tended. But the real reason to stay at a Sheila Lane B&B is the breakfast. The food is very good, surpassed only by the breakfast hospitality. Ms. Lane joined us and gracefully led the pleasant, lively conversation; joining in was comfortable. We truly enjoyed learning about Ms. Lane's other guests.

The hotel itself is very charming. It is clean and well located. The service you will get is absolute minimum once they have your money.Ira is a warm fellow who serves a very thin breakfast. During the day, there is no management on site unless called to their mobile. When I called to complain about the freezing temperature in my room, I was asked if I wanted to find another hotel instead. I don't feel this is the right approach in the hospitality business.

3.6 on February 11, 2015
The house and owner were lovely and we really enjoyed her taking us through the home and describing the restoration work that had been done. However, in order to receive a better rating, a few improvements should be made. First, the bed linens were rough and need to be higher quality and the pillows were rock hard. Second, the breakfast consisted of a dry egg casserole, scrambled eggs and a few small slices of fruit. Pretty basic and not nearly what we've experienced at other bed and breakfasts. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would certainly consider staying here again.
5 on February 11, 2015
We had a amazing anniversary weekend at the Cobb Lane B&B. Cookies and petite pecan pies before bed and a perfect breakfast with hot coffee. Shiela the owner was delightful and was the icing on the cake. We even played a guessing game and won a half price future stay. I felt like Scarlett from Gone With the Wind.. We felt like we went back in time staying in a beautiful restored home from 1898.

We enjoyed a wonderful weekend staying at the B&B. Our daughter was returning from Costa Rica and this was a perfect place to relax and visit. The Enchanting Turret Room was very comfortable and more enjoyable than a hotel room. The breakfast is delicious and the staff are fantastic people. Having a chance to talk with others from all around the country is a nice experience as well. We also enjoyed a Parlor Game with others that was very exciting and a learning experience as well. My once skeptic husband is now sold on staying again! Sheila, you are a A+ hostess.

I stayed at Hassinger Daniels Mansion over the weekend and was absolutely bowled over! The renovation of the old mansion was truly amazing, and to say it is beautiful in an understatement. The mansion provides everything a traveler needs (comfortable beds, flat screen TV, blow dryer, iron & ironing board, etc.) but is so much more than a hotel! The period decorations are tasteful and lovely. Sheila also has on display many interesting things that were found during the renovation of the mansion. The huge porch has plenty of comfortable seating, as does the gazebo and the parlors. The location is great (plenty of restaurants, central to so many things, etc.), parking is free and there is a refrigerator for guests that is stocked with complementary beverages. The breakfast was not only delicious, it was beautiful! I just can’t say enough good things about the Hassinger Daniels Mansion Bed and Breakfast! I also stayed at Cobb Lane Bed and Breakfast a few years ago and can highly recommend both!

Sheila and Ira are fantastic hosts. Upon arrival, we were upgraded from Cobb Lane to the Hassinger Daniels Mansion. This is a newly renovated property a few blocks away from Cobb Lane. This is a beautiful property with comfortable rooms. We were treated like royalty and had our choice of several rooms to choose from. Ira gave us a map that listed many of the great restaurants and night life establishments within walking distance. I recommend this experience to everyone. We will definitely stay with Sheila and Ira again!

THe best date night ever. We loved the house and walked through to explore. Shelia is the best hostess. She is so knowledgeable about the house and the area and shared some great stories with us. Is was so convenient to go to Botega up the road and The Alabama Theater for a concert. The breakfast was outstanding and interesting to share with the other guests. We can't wait to come back and enjoy a different room. Thank you so much for making a great memory for us.

Owner and staff were very accommodating to our needs and made us feel right at home. We will be staying with them again as soon as possible. Thanks for making our time in Birmingham so enjoyable.

My wife and I enjoyed a one night getaway at the beautiful Cobb Lane Bed and Breakfast. Sheila was more than happy to take care of questions I had before making reservations, which was easy to do on their online reservation system. Most rooms have descriptions and images on their website, and Sheila sent me additional information for rooms that did not. Parking was provided, which was nice since it is within walking distance of 5-points. Upon arrival, a quick phone call to Sheila, and I was directed to keys, given a quick tour of the first floor, guided to my room, and was told I could come and go as I pleased. I stayed in the Bird of Paradise room. The professional photos on the website were very accurate. The room was very comfortably furnished with antiques, and had a clean modern bathroom. The bed was warm and pretty comfortable. The next morning, Sunday, breakfast was served at 9:00 sharp. Ira had prepared a delicious meal of sausage, scrambled eggs, gourmet blueberry bread, fresh fruit, OJ, and coffee. We enjoyed our breakfast with a pleasant conversation with Ira and another couple that had stayed the night. Overall a very enjoyable experience.

This was our first experience at a B&B and Sheila and staff made sure we would never forget it. Sheila went above and beyond our expectatitons to make sure our arrangements were in order and that we had everything we needed. Breakfast was delicious and we enjoyed pleasant conversations with Sheila and other guests. Sheila made an effort to get to know everyone, and has a great memory! We stayed in Hera's Loft. The room was spacious, comfortable, clean, and had a great view to "people watch" from a private balcony. We will definitely be back.

The mansion is absolutely beautiful. Sheila and Ira were very gracious hosts. The bathrooms need to be updated with modern facilities. I found the shower to be very uncomfortable and very disappointing.

We really enjoyed our stay. The B&B was great. Great job restoring the house. Furniture and decor outstanding. Rooms did not have individual air conditioning so we had to open window to help regulate temperature but were able to keep temperature comfortable. Little noisy with restaurants, clubs, etc nearby but was not a problem Parking lot a little small.

This was our first visit to a true B&B and to Birmingham. A family member was getting married so many of us opted to stay at the B&B versus a chain hotel. We ALL loved the experience. We were actually upgraded to the mansion that is also owned by Sheila. The rooms were gorgeous, comfortable, and SO very clean. Sheila is extremely friendly, hospitable, and professional. We look forward to another Birmingham trip to stay either at the Cobb Lane or Hassinger Mansion B&B!

My 16 year old daughter and I stayed for two nights while she had outpatient surgery at UAB Highlands (minutes from this wonderful home away from home). From the moment we arrived we were entranced! We will definitely be returning to stay in some of the other rooms we were able to tour during our stay. Do not hesitate to book here for your visit to Birmingham, AL. It is convenient to world class dining, exciting nightlife and provides a historic perspective on the city at the same time. Thank you so much to the owners and staff! Debra Burkett

Really enjoyed our stay, the house is amazing as well as historical. Every thing was perfect, very quaint but comfortable .The breakfast was very nice and met all the other guest from around the country. Sheila was a very good host. Would stay again and recommend to our friends.

We stayed in Hera's Loft and loved it. Went for our 9th anniversary. The room is located at the rear of the top floor, the most private and modern in the house. The small suite features a private balcony and a sunken floor for the main bed. Overall the house was charming and perfect for the occasion!

If you like over-the-top frou-frou, this is the place for you! We stayed in the large Zebra room, which was very comfortable. We had our own little porch which was very nice. I thought the breakfast was average. Sheila was very friendly and it was nice that she provided free soft drinks. I had read in one review that she offered homemade cookies--just store-bought ones for us! She told us about a Thai restaurant, where we had an excellent lunch. In walking around the area, we found another restaurant called J. Clyde that had very tasty food, also. Lots of restaurants in this area--downtown Birmingham seems to be a food desert!

Nestled in downtown Birmingham, the Hassinger Daniels Mansion is perfectly peaceful. The staff were graciously helpful and made us feel right at home. We spent the evenings walking downtown and enjoying some hot cocoa in the backyard gazebo. Lots of charm and character in every corner of this house. I would absolutely stay here again and will recommend it to anyone visiting Birmingham.

Delightful host. Very unique building with great attention to detail. Very clean and neat. Surrounded by a mixed neighborhood in the five points part of Birmingham, but plenty of places to hang out and drink and eat.

This Bed an Breakfast is like many others - pretty, quiet for the most part, serene, pleasant, clean, friendly owners and lots of neat restaurants within walking distance. The front porch is really nice to sit and chat with other visitors and friends or just read a favorite book or magazine. The rooms are very comfortable as are the bathrooms. Breakfast is served each morning about 8 (nice but overly fancy). The food is good, but some is made to be easily warmed then served from the microwave. More simple food variety would be a plus for a good breakfast. Not more fancy - just simple good ole breakfast items. Sometimes simple really is better. Overall, this Bed an Breakfast is very nice to stay an relax at - and the owners have done a good job at making you feel at home.

B&B's can vary a lot, so each new visit is a surprise. This place was a wonderful discovery for us. We stayed 3 nights and wish it could have been longer! The owners were super organized and friendly to all of the guests and breakfast was an event to look forward to. Very special kind of place, comfortable and historic. We will re-book anytime we are in Birmingham.

3.2 on September 07, 2014
I must start in saying that the B&B was a lovely place and that we had some circumstances that may have been unusual. We were traveling across the Sourh after taking our daughter back to college and planned to stay in Birmingham so we could meet friends there for dinner. The restaurant was in High Point so Cobb Lane seemed like a perfect location and property. We arrived after 6pm, but spoke to the innkeeper on the phone who had arranged to leave our key. Everything was great until we returned from a great dinner. We woke about 3am sweltering. We couldn't locate any way to adjust the temperature in our room or downstairs. We also couldn't find anything written in our room addressing climate control. My husband looked around outside our room and the thermostat control was located in a locked box, set at 76 degrees. It was a particularly hot and steamy night in Birmingham, but nonetheless it was so uncomfortable that we got up, took a cold shower, and left just after 6am opting to skip breakfast (which sounded like it was going to be divine). This made it difficult to use star ratings for "Dining" since we didn't eat here.

Me and my daughter had the best over night stay we drove up there for a concert from Mississippi and I had reservation and got a free upgrade the bed was very comfortable and the room was very unique the owner was a very sweet lady and we enjoyed talking to her at breakfast, the breakfast was very delightful and delicious sorry my daughter didn't eat much she woke up with a tummy ach but I enjoyed it very much .

A friend and I decided to stay at Cobb Lane for her bachelorette weekend. We were offered an upgrade to stay in the Enchanting Turret room at the Hassinger Daniels Mansion. The room was perfect (as was the whole mansion). There were so many small details of the house that made it so grand. Mrs. Sheila was so sweet and offered great advice as to where to eat and what to do while we were in Birmingham. The location is within walking distance of several amazing restaurants (I will recommend Ocean, we had AMAZING service there). We only made it to one breakfast because we went to church on one morning. However, after eating with the other guests the following morning, I wish we had made it to both! It was very special to talk with the other guests as well as with Mrs. Sheila. The food (and coffee) was also delicious. I will definitely plan another trip to stay!

Loved my room and the house, but there were several details that should have been automatic in this price of room. Request soap and extra wash cloths because there was no soap and only 1 wash cloth. You are on your own getting your luggage up to the room...I was on the 3rd floor and I'm over 60 yrs. old. I was disappointed in the food served for breakfast. Was expecting a big Southern breakfast since this was a historical Southern mansion built in the late 1890's instead we were served a light breakfast w/o any type of choice. It would be a beautiful place to be married, but would present problems for a caterer with a large wedding because of the very small kitchen.. It would be best served for a small intimate wedding either on the grounds in the gazebo or in the front parlor. The gazebo is spectacular!

It was a very cool Bed and Breakfast in a trendy area of Birmingham within walking distance from some great restaurants. My wife and I were in the Camelot room which is in the front. It was very loud...and to be expected because of the location of the B&B. Very understandable. We did have a bit of an issue with it being so warm in that room. The rest of the house seemed to be cool and comfortable while ours was pretty warm. We got back late enough from dinner that we didn't want to disturb anyone. We had an oscillating table fan that helped. The décor was great...need to work on the circulation in that room. I'm assuming most of the other rooms were cool and comfortable. Great breakfast, friendly host, and a great experience overall.

This was my second stay at the Hassinger Daniels mansion and it was wonderful as expected. Decorated beautifully, very clean and beds were as comfortable as could be. My sister and I stayed on the 3rd floor and loved it. We had a large room, it was the perfect temp for sleeping at night and dark enough for a light sleeper to not be awakened by light or outside sounds. Breakfast was delicious and the coffee was perfect!

At a glance it seems to be a very good place but it has many failures by sample: Too many rooms it looks like an inn than a B&B; had no Wi-Fi service but it shows that the service is given. The breakfast it was a Continental breakfast, grape juice very bad quality and warm and worst of all the fabric napkins were recycled.
A continental breakfast usually has juice, a pastry, and coffee. Our 2 Inns offer a full hot cooked Southern Hospitality breakfast each morning with an egg dish (example quische, omelette, scrambled eggs), breakfast meat (example ham, bacon, sausage), baked bread/pastry item (example pancakes, French bread, biscuit, breakfast baked breads, scone, muffin, etc., juice, hot coffee or tea. Orange, apple, cranberry and grape juice are always available. Special dietary requests may be arranged. Cloth table napkins fresh from the commercial laundry are in our breakfast table settings. Free Wi-Fi service is available to our guests via password given at entry. Common areas have a 5 bar reception, rooms vary from 2 to 5 bars. An enhancement is being planned so that all rooms have a 5 bars. At our recently opened 2nd BB, HASSINGER DANIELS MANSION BED AND BREAKFAST, all guest rooms and common areas have a 5 bar reception.

Everything was wonderful! The home is well appointed. Great detail and furnishings. The bed was very comfortable in the periwinkle room. I like extra pillows and had brought my own. There were only 2 for the bed, though. So take note. The breakfast was great with a sausage/croissant casserole, scrambled eggs, fresh fruit and good coffee. We met the owner the next morning and she was very nice. It was great to meet all the guest and talk over breakfast. Overall I would stay there again.
Spectacular! We so enjoyed your adjective to describe your experience. Please come again soon.

Stayed with my daughter in the 2 bedroom suite upstairs in mid July. The beds were comfortable and loved the ambiance of the home and bedrooms. The inn is on a quiet street and the air conditioning worked well in July! The inn is also located in a great area within walking distance to restaurants and shops. The best part of the stay was talking with Shelia and the other guests. Our visit to Birmingham was more enjoyable staying at Cobb Lane instead of staying at a chain hotel.
This guest and her family stayed in our Country French suite upstairs which has a queen and a double bed, sleeps 4, in 2 bedrooms that share one bath. This suite is a favorite of families and close friends traveling together. These guests were very outgoing and enjoyed the City and Inn. Thank you for coming!

We recently went to a wedding in Birmingham and we wanted to find a unique, classic place to stay with historical charm and in a wonderful location. We found this and more at Cobb Lane Bed and Breakfast. First, Sheila was wonderful, classy, elegant and charming. She was a most helpful and considerate host without being intrusive. She shares local knowledge without being pushy. She help guest meet each other and got conversations started and then allowed things to take its natural course. The house is full of charm and history and the renovation while done very well. Yet, don't be upset if a window or door frame is under repair. This for us was part of the charm for us (we've renovated 3 houses ourselves). The breakfast was fresh fruit, eggs, juice, coffee and all prepared fresh and served with all the guest sharing a meal. A great experience as we met and had wonderful conversations with teachers from Kentucky and Physicians from Florida. The neighborhood is a great location, close to local restaurants, bars, health food stores, etc. I felt immediately safe as a small local police station is just across the street. We'll be back and we'll stay here again!
We enjoyed these guests very much since they seek out historic properties and understand that their patronage helps keep the property in use so that it will be enjoyed by the next generation that follows. They were delightful. Please come again when you're in Birmingham.

A very friendly and informative hostess. She took the time to sit with us and add to the breakfast table conversations, give advice and hints etc. However, the breakfast was vastly over-rated. We all sat around getting coffee refills waiting for another course to follow the first very small one, Muffins perhaps? Pastries? But nothing more was on offer. The second moring, all we got was scrambled egg, some fruit and one dry scone (biscuit)
Our breakfasts are full hot cooked Southern Hospitality meals with a meat dish (sausage, bacon, or ham), an egg dish (example omellette, quische, scrambled eggs), baked items (biscuit, muffin, croissant, pancakes, etc.), fresh fruit in season, fruit juice, and hot coffee or tea. There are also sweet treats in the parlor available at any time (example cookies, brownies or cupcakes). Other BBs we're familiar with may serve the same things but in separate dishes and courses rather than all at the same time. Perhaps these guests have visited those BBs earlier. Thank you for the kind personal comment, we enjoyed meeting you also.

We stayed at Cobb Lane Bed and Breakfast as we passed through Birmingham. It was a great experience. Very tranquil. The food was fabulous.

The Inn is full of history and artifacts! Very interesting! The room was quiet and private and we liked that very much! The room could have used a good cleaning before we arrived, and the pillows on the bed smelled "musty / old". We were glad that we brought our own pillows with us. Kinda disappointed in breakfast only because we have stayed at several B&B and the Breakfast is always the BIG HIT the next morning, however this one was nothing worth really getting out of bed for. It felt like there was more emphasis put into the crystal and china than the actual food.
We checked this guest room and changed the pillows. Thanks for the feedback. Please come again.

Sunday, June 29th was my 25th birthday. This was my first stay in a B&B and it was an amazing experience. It was a surprise and the staff and other guests were so welcoming. The mansion reminded me of my childhood home, and I was even able to bathe in a claw-foot bathtub. I wish I could visit this place every week! Everything was just wonderful.
It is always fun to experience new things and we are so glad you came and did so. Yes, a footed claw tub is different than taking a bath in a modern tub. These rooms have footed claw tubs with showers above: Periwinkle (Cobb Lane BB), Vulcan Vista, Southern Belle, Garden View, Camelot (Hassinger Daniels Mansion BB). Thank you for enjoying old fashioned bathing.

We really enjoyed our night at Cobb Lane. It is beautiful with lots of fascinating antiques. We stayed in the Southern Magnolia Suite and were very pleased. HASSINGER DANIELS MANSION BED AND BREAKFAST at 2028 Highland Ave South, Birmingham, AL 35205 is our newly restored and 2nd BB just 2 blocks away from Cobb Lane BB. We're so happy that you like it. Thank you for being our guest.

My sorority sisters and I occupied half of the Hassinger Daniels property for three nights and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. The parlour and veranda were perfect for visiting, Sheila and Danielle were perfect hostesses and breakfast was first rate. Each of our rooms had a distinct personality - filled with treasures! If you want to go back in time and enjoy the past, this is a great place to do it!
This group of ladies were so much fun. They were about our age and had fond memories of their college sorority and have kept in touch over the years. Turns out we once were "house parents" for their sorority while in Grad School, though at a different time and place. They are such good friends through thick and thin and through the years, it was beautiful to see. Thank you for coming!

We were introduced to Sheila and Ira Chaffin's 2nd B&B just a couple blocks away from Cobb Lane B&B. Cobb Lane had full occupancy and they offered a stay in their recently restored and opened, Victorian Mansion, Hassinger Daniels. This Victorian Mansion from 1898 was built by the President of the Iron Company, it is 2.5 times larger and grander, than Cobb Lane B&B, and on the National HIstoric Registry. We were very pleased with our stay at this location and would recommend it to anyone looking for a unique getaway in the 5 Points Disctrict. This B&B was a better choice as it is within walking distance of restaurants and in a lively location. However, if you are looking for a quiter area getaway, I would recomment Cobb Lane. It is still within walking distance of entertainment but also provides the quietness of a nice neighborhood setting. Both are very beautifully decorated and we would be happy to stay at either location again. If you are looking for more information I would contact Sheila or check out HASSINGER DANIELS MANSION BED AND BREAKFAST on facebook. The address is 2028 Highland Ave South, Birmingham, AL 35205
Thank you for trying out our newly restored and opened 2nd BB and your encouragement about our new adventure. It is just 2 blocks away from Cobb Lane BB. It is true it is much larger and grander in scale than Cobb Lane and right in the middle of the action. We can sit on its front porch and see the July 4th fireworks from Vulcan Monument on nearby Red Mountain, watch the St. Patrick's Day parade and Birmingham's Mercedes Marathon runners come down Highland Ave towards their finish. A fun place to be. Thank you for coming, please come again soon. Sheila

I have been wanting to stay in a B&B for over 20 yrs and finally booked this one on a business trip. For my personality which is outgoing and curious I absolutely enjoyed it. Sheila the owner was very accessible and actually served and at breakfast with us in the morning. I thoroughly enjoyed the process of dining with others and meeting new people. The B&B itself was absolutely gorgeous. I stayed not at Cobb Lane but the other one they own the Hunseinger Mansion just down the street. The rooms were very clean and you could tell a lot of passion went in to decorating and maintaining the home. A lot of history in the house and a fantastic place to stay which is close to 5 points and tons of stuff to do and lots of places to eat. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I will definitely stay hear again when in town and fully recommend this to anyone staying in the area.
HASSINGER DANIELS MANSION BED AND BREAKFAST, 2028 Highland Ave South, Birmingham, AL 35205 was delighted to meet this very competent and well traveled business woman who was trying out a B&B for first time. I loved the Inn and the owners. I loved that it was so peaceful and quite. The other families and couples staying there were nice. The cleaning crew could do a better job dusting and removing hair from linens such as the comforters and from the bath tub. I'm not sure the owners are aware of this as they have a cleaning crew that does this. I believe they said it was college students which explain the lack of attention. We still enjoyed the B&B and plan to go back again.
We are pleased you came, enjoyed the Inn, and other guests. We will train our crew to be more careful in their cleaning. Thank you for telling us.

This I a very warm and loving place to stay. My daughter had a early appointment at the children hospital (she is 2 years old) I did not want to travel so early in the morning. We choose to stay at Cobb Lane bed and Breakfast the night before her appointment. I am so glad we did, she enjoyed the front porch and the freedom of a yard unlike a hotel room. Mrs Sheila welcomed us in as if we was family. Mrs. Sheila's peanut butter cookies was a delightful treat. We enjoyed a wonderful breakfast and the company we had.The beautiful antiques and small details of collectables is breath taking. A million thank you for a wonderful stay.
We cherished the time when this guest and her very pretty 2 year old daughter came to visit. The Mother was so loving and the little girl so happy in her arms, that as a Grandparents ourselves, it was a delight to behold. Best wishes to you both.

Staying at Cobb Lane B and B had all the comforts of a home as far as amenities, pleasant company, breakfast and all the coffee you want with cookies available throughout the day to snack if you want. Not stuffy and impersonal like staying at a hotel. There was the added benefit of luxurious dining room, front porch to read or converse on and a sitting parlor. The other guests were pleasant but not in an encroaching way and everyone respected one another's privacy. I looked forward to breakfast as the conversation was always interesting and everyone engaged. After breakfast we went to Birmingham Botanical Gardens which are beautiful and free. In the afternoon we sat on the porch of the B and B and enjoyed the spring weather and later that night we went to a play at the local theater. All in all a very pleasant stay.
Aren't those Victorian large wrap-around porches great! They're sort of an outdoor "room", the in-between area between the walkable sidewalk and neighborhood and where the Victorian family lived inside the Mansion. We also like to sit there, soak in the sun, smell the Spring flowers, and think about what life was like at the turn of the century. So glad you enjoyed these simple pleasures also. Please come again soon.

We had a blast. The house was very well kept and the location was great. The innkeeper was a very good source of information and she (Sheila) went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. When I go back to bham, it will be my 1st Choice.
We loved your review and glad you enjoyed your stay. We'll look forward to seeing you both next time. We'll keep up on all the current events and entertainments to tell you about. Happy Anniversary!

Ira is a great host who is interested in the comfort and satisfaction of guests at Cobb Lane. He puts a positive face on Birmingham, which we found a delightful place to visit!
How nice to be complimented! And by such nice folks like you. Thank you. Ira

The B & B and the working staff were great. The breakfast however gave us a different taste for the B & B. The owner definitely caters to the "employed" guests vs the vacationing guests. We were first to enter the dining room and since there was a table to the side set for 2, we chose that in case there were families or singles and left the dining room table for them. Big mistake! The owner sat and chatted with those folks exclusively and other than our initial cup of coffee totally ignored us. She actually circled the dining room table with coffee refills for all - except us. Never asked, never once looked in our direction. My husband got up, walked behind her, filled his cup, returned to our table, picked up my cup and refilled it. No acknowledgement of having been ignored by the owner! Needless to say, we left immediately and will not have this B & B on our list of favorites.
We apologize for how things seemed to you, based on your comments, and have learned something today. For the past 9 years of successful operation, couples choosing to sit in the side table have told us they wish to be initially served, then seek to have private conversations and not engage with those in the large table or for re-fills since they wish to be "alone" admidst the group. Apparently we misjudged your intention and we apologize for that. We'll ask future couples who sit there what they wish. We hope you'll come another time and enjoy sitting with others at the main table enjoying their lively conversation.

Great location and elegant furnishings. We had requested a non-meat option for breakfast ahead of time and was assured it was not a problem, but the main dish served had sausage in it. That is my only complaint. I didn't mention it to them.
Shame on us. We apologize. May I make a suggestion. Please tell your hostees who you are at the time for best enjoyment. Thank you.

Room was on bottom floor; no thermostat in room, but there was a space heater. Service was good overall. Can't beat the value--great price for being in the heart of the city. Room was relatively clean but sheets and towels looked worn and a little dirty. The morning breakfast was fabulous and very delicious! The owners were really nice and great to talk to.
We appreciate this guests's praise for the hospitality. The sheets and towels are from a commercial laundry, we'll pass on your comment so that best quality can result. The Mansion has central air and heating so the Zebra room where they stayed has appropriate service. It also has a space heater for additional comfort, as desired. Thank you for coming.

The proprietor was a fantastic host, the students that assist with the management of the facility were gracious (and excellent cooks), and the rooms were charming! Great location in the heart of Birmingham - easy walking distance to plenty of restaurants and bars; easy driving distance to local attractions (such as Vulcan Park).
We enjoyed this guest very much and am glad they got out to see the City and the sights. I will extend your praise to our staff who are graduate students at nearby University of Alabama at Birmingham who are studying for their professions as they help us entertain our guests. Thank you for coming.

Great accommodations, breakfast was delicious with outstanding coffee. We enjoyed the historic mansion and the attention to details. We will be back!
Glad you liked the coffee! My wife who is an avid coffee drinker, picks it out. I'm a tea drinker myself. She also does the decorating so I'll tell her you liked all the Victorian details which will make her day. Please come again soon. Best Regards.

To borrow a song title from the Johnny Mathis concert we were in Birmingham to see...It's Wonderful, wonderful...Shelia and Ira made our stay very special. We will be back!!! Beautiful room and furniture, a visual feast. Ira can whip up a great breakfast in no time and the conversation at the table is easy. The location is perfect, easy to get to and close to downtown B'ham. We stayed at the mansion behind Chik-fil-a on 20th St. Great hosts, Shelia and Ira are the best. Thanks Tom and Kay
We enjoyed this coupled very much who stayed at our newly opened 2nd BB, the HASSINGER DANIELS MANSION BED AND BREAKFAST, near the Highland Bar and Grill, Chez Fon Fon, Bottega, Hot N Hot Fish Club, and Ocean's fine dining restaurants in the Five Points Historic District. Their enthusiastic and positive reaction to our difficult 3 year National Historic registered property restoration really made it all worth while. Thank you for your kind words! Please come again soon.

Cobb Lane is a charming B & B with knowledgeable, helpful owners who worked with us to accommodate our rather strict schedule. The location was very expedient to the downtown area and having parking on site was wonderfully convenient! The breakfast was delicious and a nice start to a busy day.
Our mid-day guests are usually going to early business meetings at the University of Alabama Birmingham, the Financial District, or are patients of the nearby hospitals and need slightly different breakfast times and/or menus. We enjoyed meeting these guests very much. Thank you for taking the moment to write.

we were just there for one night, happily in the zebra room, which is located away from the rest of the rooms...good thing, because when we returned from the concert we'd attended, all hyped and wanting to listen to more music, we were able to without a moment of guilt...showed up for breakfast at 9 and were graciously served...our thanks to the staff for a wonderful stay in birmingham (and to our host, sheila, for playing a tune on the antique air organ after breakfast!)

The building is fascinating. The inn keepers are delightful. Be sure to ask about the carousel animal carving school.
My sculpture studio is in lower level of HASSINGER DANIELS MANSION BED AND BREAKFAST, 2 blocks away from COBB LANE BED AND BREAKFAST. Students of all ages and backgrounds learn to carve beautiful carousel horses and menagerie figures of all types. Please go to www.irachaffinsculpture.com or www.chaffincarouselcarvingschool.com to see the creations.

Our room was in the Hassinger Mansion, not the original Cobb Lane location. It was across the street from an Oyster Bar whose smoking balcony was out front so that we got the joy of hearing loud revelers until 3am. Otherwise, everything about this place was great. We will likely stay with these folks again, but we'll try the original Cobb Lane property instead (to avoid the noise).

This is a cute little Victorian style home in the 5-points area of Birmingham. Walking distance to several great restaurants/bars. I had a day surgery planned so the location was excellent to get to UAB. Breakfast is served in the dining room at 7:00 AM. The house was all dressed up for Christmas and looked very festive! Great location and owners!
We're glad you enjoyed the Christmas decorations. Victorian Mansions used bright colors in their every day decorating, often complimentary colors, like red and green which happen to be Christmas colors. So we have fun adding seasonal decorations and it is very colorful. Professional photographers and magazine editors often ask to use the Mansions in their work. Thank you for noticing!

We stayed in the Zebra Room. The room was beautiful, Bathroom was bigger then my kitchen and the bed and couch was comfortable- The bed was a little squeaky. The room had a large television in it but we didn't use it. The wifi was a little spotty. The room was down stairs and we had a back door to the parking lot BUT no internal way of getting up stairs for breakfast. The breakfasts were a little small compared to other B&B we've stayed at but the food was fantastic and it was filling. Our only complaint with the room was that it had a portable room heater in it. So we were a little let down for that. We enjoyed our stay and would possibly stay again.

Had a private entrance but to get to the rest of the house, had to go outside, up the driveway and thru the front door. A minor thing. Bed was super comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. Shelia the proprietor offered excellent insight to the area and delightful breakfast conversation. The cookies were plentiful and excellent. lots of nice eateries, bars and groceries in walking distance.

This is a lovely place to stay in Birmingham. Sheila & Ira are warm, welcoming, helpful hosts who keep the conversation flowing around the dining table each morning. Breakfasts are generous and good. I stayed several nights in the Southern Magnolia room and loved having the private parlor in which to read and relax. I also appreciated the common kitchen with its microwave, stove and fridge. Complimentary cookies, bottled water & soft drinks are nice touches. A step back to Victorian times!

It was our first time to Birmingham, just an overnight trip to see some museums, eat, and check out the city. Cobb Lane B&B is located in a great spot, close to downtown and very near the Vulcan Park & Museum. It's also close to Homewood which has some great places to eat and walk around. We stayed in the Periwinkle Room. The facilities were clean and comfortable though I may have preferred more space in the room and less decorations (the large headless mannequin in a wedding dress wasn't too creepy but it wasn't my favorite since it took up a large chunk of the room). The breakfast was super delicious and it was fun to chat with other guests and one of the owners (who has opened another B&B in B'ham). There's also a refrigerator full of complimentary drinks as well as fresh baked cookies in the sitting room. We'd definitely consider staying again if we have overnight trip to B'ham for a mini-vacation. Just be ready for the parking--we had no idea about the hills in the area and the B&B only has a few spots available in their lot (some are on the side, on a sort of steep entrance/exit)--we thankfully snagged one of the two spots in the back to the side of the building. And it's kind of a "make yourself at home" policy--the room had an over-the-door window so the hallway light was really bright; we adjusted the dimmer on our own. It was kind of cold in our room but there was no way to adjust it--definitely bearable though. There's reasonable privacy, but it still has the feel of being in a house with a bunch of other people though we didn't really notice anyone else until breakfast in the morning.

The home is lovely and for the discounted price that we received, it could not be beat. We stayed in the Vulcan Vista View Suite and we encountered a few unforeseen problems. There are large windows over the bed that allow too much light into the window. Sleep was hard to come by. Additionally, there is a bar across the street and we were awakened both nights by loud noise and laughter well into the night, starting at around 2am and continuing on until at least 4am. We would stay at this home again, but requesting a room towards the back of the house. Another issue we had is that there were no hooks or bars or anything of the sort for hanging clothes. This would not prevent a return visit; however, it was a matter of inconvenience. The bathroom is lovely and has a wonderful claw foot bath tub, but there is no shower curtain, so the floor and bath mat is wet after each person showers. Again, the hosts were accommodating and the location, being within walking distance of restaurants, bars, coffee shops, etc. was very convenient. We would return but only if we could stay in the back of the house and actually have a restful night sleep.

The owners of this lovely B&B are interesting and friendly. The Inn is in a pretty area on a somewhat busy street with an active nightlife. The bed was comfy and the temp nice and cool. Window coverings would be helpful - especially in the bathroom. The tub was a delight. We had to walk to their other property a few minutes away for breakfast which may be a problem for some people. A member of our party has a condition that requires him to be close to a bathroom after meals, but he managed it. There were other guests, but we did not hear them - so either they were quiet or the rooms are well insulated.

Another wonderful visit to these lovely B&B's in the Five Points area of Downtown Birmingham, AL. This trip I opted to stay in the new place owned, operated, designed & restored by the Innkeepers, Shelia & Ira Chaffin, The Hassinger Daniels Mansion, right in the middle of Five Points, and 2 blocks from their Cobb Lane Bed and Breakfast. Hassinger Daniels is a lovely restoration, over 10.000 square feet, three stories plus Ira's Carousel Wood Carving Studio in the basement. I spent two nights on the third floor, heard not a sound inside or outside, outstanding air conditioner, great food. Walk out the front door, and dozens of restaurants and pubs within 2 blocks, some of them the best Birmingham has to offer. Short, safe walk to UAB campus for sports or entertainment, or 5 minute trolley ride to downtown churches, art museums, Civil Rights museum. One could not ask for more. And Shelia & Ira always treat you like family- John McCallum

Since this B& B just opened there were various bits and pieces of progects still in the process of being completed. The bathrooms were spotless and linens were excellent. Bring your own pillow as I found theirs to be too firm. There was a lot of dust along the basebords of the floor and window sills as well as windows with blinds. The matress was perfect. Furnishings are beautiful. Breakfast was tasty and portions were plentiful. The coffee is hot and to my likeing. The cookies on arrival were delicious. We were able to tour all the rooms and have picked out the one we next want to stay in. After all the little finishing projects and dusting is done you will love staying at this B&B . The location is perfect and service requests answers are prompt. It is a home away from home.

The newest property of Birmingham's only B&B is going to be fabulous. A colleague and I stayed there three weeks after the opening, and it was already wonderful, despite some loose ends one would expect after so extensive a renovation (some painting to be finished, for example, and some amenities yet to be distributed among the rooms, all of which should have happened by the time this review is published). Happily, the breakfast was superb, and we left determined to return soon.

We stayed in the Southern Magnolia Suite and would concur with many of the reviews read in advance of our stay. The owners have addressed some of the concerns: a brand new portable AC unit was in the sitting room. The most wonderful and helpful Kathleen got it to decrease the temperature for us, instead of just blowing the fan. Did note small fan and also a small heater in the closet, along with a blanket. We found enough tabletop space to suit our uses. No seconds were offered at breakfast (as in the Southern way) or put on the table to partake of as desired. The amount provided was adequate; coffee and tea were refilled graciously; conversation was inclusive and interesting. Would agree about the need for dusting.

If you had a fantasy about living in a Victorian doll house as a child, this is a priceless opportunity to live it. Amazing charm and character, but bear in mind that it does come at the expense of some modern comforts. There is little privacy (sounds and smells carry in these old homes) and glass panes at the top of the door frames mean you can't get the room completely dark at night. The wi fi was also not working in the two days I was there. In short, a perfect place for 1-2 nights if you are on vacation and willing to sacrifice some comfort to experience life in a historic home.

We were given towels to dry off with, cookies and hot coffee. We enjoyed time on the wonderful porch while we tried to figure out what to do about dinner. We were given options and the phone number for the cab company personally. I believe the girls name was Kathleen, forgive me if I am wrong. She went over and above board to make us feel welcome and wanted. I want to live there and be treated like that everyday!! In the morning even though it was at 7 they offered to let us wait. We got to meet Sheila, we would have liked to talk to her for hours, wonderful woman with great stories. We were only able to stay one night, and it was very difficult to leave. My Husband and I are looking forward to returning, hopefully sooner than later. Thank you for a wonderful experience!!!

The staff put on a breakfast meal for our company staff that was in town with us and made everyone feel at home. The cost of the extra meals was very good and served promptly. The cost of the rooms was very reasonable and it was much better than staying at the local hotels the rest of the company staff stayed at. We would stay again when in town. Bruce Ogilvy ECO-WOLF INC

The rooms as well as the whole house are beautiful and the staff including Sheila and Ira the inn keepers were gracious hosts. Breakfast every morning was delicious and the take into account dietary needs which was greatly appreciated. They are opening up another B&B about 2 blocks from the current location in another historic mansion in Birmingham. I think if you are planning a trip to Birmingham or the surrounding areas of Alabama this is the perfect place to stay and be pampered in southern charm. Looking forward to staying there again in the future. Lynn Gazzara

My newly-wed husband and I were traveling to our honeymoon destination, and we needed to stop half way and stay the night somewhere. I'm so glad we chose to stay at this Bed and Breakfast instead of a hotel! The location was downtown, so we explored the city a little bit. The owner was very nice and accommodating to our needs. The house was old, antique, formal, and very beautiful. Our room and private bath was very nice with the formal antique furniture. And it was just so nice not to be in a boring hotel room. And breakfast in the formal dining room was delicious!! We loved our stay at Cobb Lane Bed and Breakfast and recommend it!

We stayed at the 2nd B and B owned by Sheila and her husband! The home Was beautiful! It was still under construction but I love seeing the transition! Everything was perfect! (If you ask my boyfriend breakfast could have been a larger portion). But aside from that he loved the stay too!

Sheila and Ira were wonderful hosts! Sheila ate breakfast with the guests, was very knowledgeable about the history of her beautiful home, and also was very helpful in giving guidance about what to do and see in Birmingham. The freshly baked cookies in the parlor and complimentary soft drinks and bottled water in the refrigerator were a nice touch. The rooms were attractive and very clean. It was very enjoyable to have breakfast with the other guests. Cobb Lane is within walking distance of the 5-Points area, which has several very good restaurants to choose from. CONS: Wifi connection in the rooms was spotty -- better downstairs in the parlor and dining room. Temperature in the rooms could not be controlled, so it was a bit hot upstairs for our June visit. (We like to sleep with the room fairly cold.) Breakfast on weekdays is at 7 AM. Since we were vacationing and not in Birmingham on business, this was a little early, and I did not check on this before booking the room. (Breakfast on Sat/Sun is at 8/9. They do give you the option of having breakfast served in your room, but we did not choose this option, since we wanted to dine with the other guests.) Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at Cobb Lane. If we were to stay at a B&B in Birmingham again, we would definitely come back!

Wonderful hosts. A beautiful home...superbly decorated! This was my 2nd stay. Because of my dietary needs (Gluten free, no meat) it's hard to feed me at breakfast. More B&B's could benefit by having food options.

Very exciting stay. Met many interesting people. The preservation of the historical site was done with great taste. Owners, Sheila and Ira are very fascinating people. Their love of historic preservation is most wonderful. Ira's talent at carousel "horse carving" is quite a unique talent. And the display in their NEW B&B is beautiful. HIGHLY recommend for anyone in Birmingham to stay here. Close to everything Birmingham!

My husband and I have stayed at several B&Bs and were disappointed with this one. We were celebrating our anniversary and booked the zebra room. The bedding on the throw pillows and shams looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a very long time; they were yellowed and stained. We immediately put them on the couch. When we returned to our room around midnight we realized there was either a restaurant or bar behind the B&B that was playing loud music and you could hear the people outside. This went on until approximately 1:30. It rained throughout the night, and when we woke up in the morning the floor had water that had come in from the other part of the basement. The bathroom had a musty smell to it; the area around the bolt on the floor of the toilet next to the shower was disgusting. After seeing all of this we decided to skip the breakfast and go to a restaurant. My husband took the keys up to the house and to let them know we were checking out and to tell them about the water. I cannot comment on the quality of the breakfast or friendliness of the hosts since we did not stay. When we checked in, however, I did ask Kiera what would be served for breakfast the next day and was told probably eggs, bacon or sausage, pumpkin scones. The main reason my husband likes to stay at B&Bs is the breakfast specialties. I think we would have been somewhat disappointed in this breakfast. I can't speak for any of the other rooms, but would recommend staying away from the zebra room. We did have a nice weekend in Birmingham, however, and enjoyed our anniversary...

I spent 4 nights at the Cobb Lane Bed and Breakfast last week. My room was comfortable and charming. The breakfast each morning, served on fine china in the dining room, was delicious; my only quibble was that it was served at 7 a.m. but at least that got me out and about earlier than I otherwise would have been. I didn't meet Sheila, but Ira was a great host and the breakfast conversation with him and the other guests was interesting each day. The DART line (25 cents each ride) runs right past there, which is great if you don't have a car. I also had the opportunity to tour the other Victorian mansion that the Chaffins are in the process of renovating. I loved sitting out on the wraparound veranda, with Vulcan in full view above. And there were a fair amount of great dining choices within walking distance. I would definitely recommend a stay to anyone going to Birmingham.

My girlfriend and I had never stayed at a bed & breakfast before, so we decided to give it a shot while we were in Birmingham for a weekend. Turns out it was an even better experience than we had hoped! The owner, Sheila, was very nice and answered all our questions since we had never been to the area. The rooms were a little quirky, but in the best way possible (we stayed in the Zebra room and would do so again). We were greeted with cookies at the door and a delicious homemade breakfast in the morning. Our only issue was that a $22 tax was never mentioned on the reservation website until we had submitted our credit card information and were informed about the charge in an email confirmation. Will definitely be staying at Cobb Lane if we ever make it to Birmingham again!

My husband and I stayed in the Peacock Room for two nights in the newly opened Hassinger Daniels Mansion B&B on our way to Texas. I highly recommend the stay if you have a chance.

This was my second stay at Cobb Lane. The value for the money is so much better here than at a hotel for a quick night stay when in B'ham. With cookies to great you in the parlor and complimentary water or cola in the fridge - only thing that would be better is milk! Breakfast the next morning is cooked fresh with plenty of coffee. Can't beat the atmosphere here.

I have been looking for an "excuse" to stay at Cobb Lane B & B ever since I saw it online a couple years ago. I finally found it! This past weekend my fiance & I stayed at this beautiful B & B for a UA game weekend. We were not disappointed! The home is beautiful, the beds very comfy, and the food delicious!! Walking distance to the best restaurants in the whole city, which I love to park and relax, and be done with the parking issues. This is a must do, as you are located in 5 points, one of the most popular shopping area's for the artistic crowd. Got to go to the upstairs music store for all the old music you could desire. The Rose Room a favorite. Suzanne, Mobile, AL

I was in Birmingham to visit with some friends from my high school days. I graduated from Ensley High School in 1974. I really did not have much time in the house, as I was out until late, but the room was just beautiful and quiet, and breakfast the following morning was delicious. I greatly enjoyed the company of the other guests with whom I shared that meal. The next time my travels bring me to Birmingham, I will again contact Cobb Lane!

I've stayed here a few time in the past, I like it because it is a very convenient location and a great deal. It's withing close walking or biking distance to many attractions in the city. We stayed in the Zebra room, it was very cozy. We appreciated the complementary beverages.

My wife and I chose Cobb Lane B & B for our wedding night. We arrived around 6:30 pm on a Saturday night... our room key was waiting for us at the front door, along with a congratulatory note from the proprietor (Sheila). Our room was beautifully decorated.. perfectly appointed to fit architectural era of the home itself. My wife and I felt at home and were able to relax after very busy day. After coming back from dinner in Five Points, we noticed that Sheila had made some homemade cookies for us that we're waiting at the bottom of the staircase :). Our breakfast the next morning was wonderful, as well, and we appreciated the company of Sheila and the other guests. Thanks again, Sheila for an unforgettable experience!

Nice B&B, overly decorated (looks like an antique store exploded inside) & could use a thorough dusting and bathroom cleaning. The only desk in the room was covered in kitch so there was no place to use a laptop. Tub leaked all over the bathroom floor.

We registered on line for this - the only B&B in Birmingham - and stayed Sat and Sunday. The entire process was professional and personal. We have stayed in many heritage B&B around North America, and this is among the top 10. It is an old, heritage home - heavily decorated in antiques - and will appeal to those who appreciate a home such as this being preserved - and who enjoy the company of their host during breakfast. The full breakfast was very good. Breakfast times were 8AM on Sat, 9AM on Sun, and 7 AM on Mon - Fri to accomodate business guests. This suited us fine. Good value - we would definitely stay here again.

This was my first visit to a BnB and it was rather enjoyable. Considering how old the home is it was in very good shape, but there were some areas were it's age did show, usually in missing trim pieces, a sliding door that didn't close properly, and a few instances of pealing wallpaper. All in all nothing that would keep my from returning if the opportunity presented itself. Should you stay here I highly recommend you walk down to 26 for dinner, a very interesting place to eat.

My only criticisms are things you would expect from an old Victorian house in the process of being restored: we could hear the nearby pub like we were sleeping in it, but the noise died down at a reasonable hour. Saw a couple dead bugs ike done furniture, but never saw anything actually creeping or crawling. This was made up for by the host's kind accommodation of our young children. The front porch was a favorite place for all of us to sit and chat or have imaginary tea parties. One night we put the kids to bed and hosted dinner with friends on the porch. We will definitely stay here again!

Cobb Lane was quite a find. Wonderful innkeeper who hosted breakfast every morning ensuring everyone was introduced and sparking interesting conversations. The room was very comfortable though the AC made it a tad too cold. We were playing the TRJ golf trail at Oxmoor Valley and it was only a short 20 minute drive away. The B&B is situated near the hospitals so there are many restaurants within walking distance. We would stay again next time we're in Birmingham to play the RTJ golf trail.

We met friends at this delightful B & B and what a great place it was! It's the only one in town and in a great location. We loved walking to 5 Points South for a wonderful selection of excellent restaurants. We also enjoyed the delicious breakfast offerngs provided by the owners. They also gave helpful information on things to see and do in Birmingham. About the onlly thing we would recommend is to put darkening shades or curtains in the Zebra room as the light from the parking lot is on all night!
3.4 on July 15, 2012
Cute place and friendly owner. Be prepared for an overabundance of stuff on every surface - but much of it is museum quality and interesting. Not much room to put your things, but the experience of staying in a museum makes up for that. My only complaint was that the house A/C was set to frigid temperatures and it was not controllable by guests (locked). Pleasant breakfast - limited portions but very elegantly served. Cookies and cold beverages at check-in. Super quick walk (downhill) to the Five Points restaurant epicenter.
2.8 on July 13, 2012
My wife and I stayed here as a weekday break from routine and found many things to enjoy: cookies available most of the time, a pleasant porch with a nice view of Vulcan, safety (police substation right across the street) and beautiful features in this old home. The landing with its window seat and leaded glass window were especially nice. We didn't have the pleasure of meeting Sheila, but we met Ira and learned that he's a talented sculptor. Look for his portfolio in the entry hall, which also provided much tourist info. You can see one of his works on the UAB campus - a statue of a former president. The Zebra room is comfortable - we were happy to learn the room is on the cool side. If you like warm bedrooms, book a different room. The private entrance at the back of the house is nice. Our ratings for service and dining need a bit of explanation. We did not realize this B&B serves breakfast at 7am (the website says it - we just didn't see it), which was too early for us. As a result, the second B at this B&B was not the kind of meal many others serve. If you relish a slow morning with a luxurious board at whatever hour you choose, this arrangement is not for you. But if you're a business traveler or someone who enjoys getting up and out, this will likely work fine. We had a nice compromise: the cook wrapped plates of food for us and we cooked our own eggs, which we enjoyed doing, and then ate together in a beautiful dining room with a fully laid table. Just remember to ask about meal arrangements if you're not an early riser. The Chaffins are in the process of restoring and opening a new B&B, also near Five Points, which is a great area with several restaurants. Both homes are beautiful and should offer good options for travelers. Side note: for a great, inexpensive day of sightseeing, take in Vulcan Park ($6/adults) and the Botanical Gardens and the Art Museum (both free). Fantastic bargains, truly beautiful and a great credit to the city.

The most convenient spot in town, near great restaurants and easy to hop on major freeways. The old house is charming and cozy. The owners and staff are so nice, very helpful. Our only criticism is the cleanliness, or lack thereof. Rooms need a thorough cleaning, along with the bathrooms. The public spaces are fine.

My daughter, granddaughter and I had the opportunity to take a "road trip" this summer. We were very blessed to have found and stay at Cobb Lane Bed and Breakfast. It was a delightful experience! The staff was very accomodating and helpful. The Zebra Room was perfect for the three of us. We had breakfast with Ira who we found most interesting. Over a wonderful breakfast, we discovered that he is an artist. Much to our joy, he offered to give us a peraonal tour of his studio. Due to time constraints on our part, Ira took us on the tour prior to the studio opening. What a fabulous experience! In addition to sharing some history of his studio and works of art, he also took the time to show my 6 year old granddaugher how to carve wood. These are memories we won't soon forget. I highly recommend a stay at Cobb Lane B&B if you are in the area. Note that the location is great as well....close to a lot of wonderful things to do including the Birmingham Botanical Gardens!
I enjoyed showing this family my Chaffin Carousel Carving Art Studio (website is www.chaffincarouselcarvingschool.com)that has colorful giraffes, horses, lions, winged hypogriffs, bears, bunnies, and other fanciful creatures. I teach persons of all ages how to make these imaginative figures. Thank you for your kind words and for coming! Ira

Stayed in the Country French suite in June 2012 - weather was high 80s to mid 90s outside. Room decor was gorgeous, food was great, inkeepers were accomodating with arrival time. I liked the complimentary cookies, water, and soft drinks, and being able to put my takeout food in the communal fridge downstairs. The dining room and veranda porch were beautiful. Television was convenient - at the food of the master suite bed. However, the room was frigid. Liking a room no colder than 73 myself, I swear it was 60. My husband, who is always hot, actually got so cold he needed to sleep under a blanket. Myself, I needed two blankets, my jacket, and my sweatpants in order not to get sick from the cold. Contacted the inkeeper, and she said there was nothing she could do, we should open a window. That helped a small bit, but not a whole lot. I took a shower with the hot water on full blast to try and warm up, and the A/C came on and gave me goosebumps. During the shower! We thought about climbing up to close some of the vents, but didn't have a ladder and couldn't reach them. I wanted to stay in and watch TV for a few hours in the evening, but it was too cold for me, so we went out again. So if you like your room 65 and below, this is the room for you. Maybe if it had been hotter outside the room wouldn't have seemed as cold. Last year we stayed in the Periwinkle room about this time of year, and it was a bit on the warm side (74-76F), but I'd much prefer that than too cold. We thought we'd try something new this year. Our mistake. Now, I have to say, it is an actual period home, built in the 1900s(?), so it was not designed with A/C or heat - I guess keeping the whole house regulated properly is just a challenge.
We thank this guest for the many compliments in this review about the Inn, decor, hospitality and nice experience, and for being a return guest. Regarding temperature in this suite, we apologize if we did not explain properly how to adjust the room temperature. There are some high ceiling vents which are kept in the proper settings, but the temperature can be quickly changed by opening or shutting the adjustable reachable vent. Also, the windows can be opened for a quick temperature rise and in our hot Alabama summer climate, only a few minutes of outside air coming into the room can quickly change a room's feeling. We value this guest and all others who patronize this National Historic Registered property, one of the few remaining ones in our National Historic District. Thank you for coming.

This place is smack dab in tge middle of Birmingham. Just outside of downtown, next to UAB, 5 points, near Lakeview, close to the Highway, the Vulcan and a neat lil art district. And its cheap! It is an old house so you cant be loud. Breakfast was awesome. We got to know everyone staying in the house. They had complimentary sodas and waters in the downstairs fridge which im sure the guests could also use. Free Wi-Fi. TV. Antiques. Homemade cookies. Good stuff. They need to dust/clean under the bed though. It had been a while. The rest of the room was clean.

We recently stayed at the Cobb Lane B&B. This 19th century home has lots of character and personality. The rooms are very warm and cozy. The host, Sheila, is a friendly and gracious host (we never saw her husband however). There were always homemade cookies in the front room - very dilicious varieties. The breakfasts were nice - although I am not prone to eating scrambled eggs every day (perhaps this is a southern thing). Breakfast was ample - you never left feeling hungry - and was served fresh out of the kitchen. The other guests of the B&B were a delight to talk to during breakfast - it's always nice to meet people from other parts of the country. I would recommend Cobb Lane Bed and Breakfast to anyone wanting to get away from the usual hotels.

Good location, and great front porch, somewhat compromised by police station and school close by. Drinks available all times and fine breakfast (served at 7 a.m.) with good clientele. Rooms a bit on heavier, over decorated side, but quiet.

We stayed over for only one night, but found the home dripping with southern charm. The table was set especially beautiful for the breakfast, and it was delicious! If I come to Birmingham, I will stay there again.

We stayed at Cobb Lane for our one year anniversary. We are actually from the Birmingham area but we wanted to do a little something for our anniversary without having to drive far or spend a lot of money. Cobb Lane was PERFECT! We stayed in the Zebra room. Very private and cozy. We spent the evening sipping wine on the front porch then we walked down to 26 for a wonderful dinner. The location is very convenient to several restaurants so you don't have to worry about driving anywhere. It was a perfect way to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. Thank you Cobb Lane for making our anniversary so special. :)

Staying at Cobb Lane Bed and Breakfast was a wonderful experience. My boyfriend and I did not get into Birmingham until late that night, but the owners set aside special instructions for us to get into our room past check-in time. We stayed in the Zebra Room, which has a private entrance through the back porch. It was Wonderfully decorated with private bath and modern shower. The next morning we were served a simple country breakfast on fine china, and met some very interesting people who had stayed in the other rooms. There is also parallel parking slots for guests in the driveway, which was nice since the B &B is located downtown. If you are looking for a spacious getaway that is conveniently located near UAB, this is the place to stay! Would definitely recommend to anyone and everyone!

The Cobb Lane B&B, located in the Historic Five Points area of Birmingham and just a few blocks from the UAB campus, was a wonderful experience. Spent two nights there in early March and looking forward to returning. The hosts, Shelia and Ira, were absolutely wondeful, kind and entertaining. Breakfast was great, and both mornings I enjoyed extended breakfast visits with other guests and Ira and Shelia. In the evening the beautiful front porch provided the perfect setting for a post dinner extended visit with my UAB student-daughter. Was amazed at the ecletic dining and pubs within a short two block walk. It was all that one could ask for in a B&B in an urban setting or any setting for that matter. I enjoyed two early morning walks, as well as a late night meander, lots of beautiful sites, interesting architecture, and completely safe.

We stayed in the Southern Magnolia Suite Valentines night. We could not have enjoyed any more than we did. Our hosts and staff were very accomodating and made our stay very pleasurable. Our room was very nice and the bottle of champagne waiting for us on the bed just added to the experience. We walked about a block to a restaurant for our dinner. We had an incredible breakfast the next morning in the dinning room with other guests. This definitely added to the experience. We will definitely return and recommend Cobb Lane B&B to others.

I booked a reservation at The Cobb Lane B&B for Valentine's Day day for my boyfriend and I. I have always wanted to stay at one, and I thoroughly enjoyed my first experience at Cobb Lane! They offer 7different rooms with their own themes. We stayed in the Camelia room which was very nice and filled with beautiful Victorian accents. I plan on visiting this B&B again very soon and trying a different themed room. The staff was very friendly, the location is close to everything in the Southside area of Birmingham which was very convenient for our V-Day celebration! I give this place 5 stars!!! I will tell all my friends to visit! I highly recommend this living time capsule :-) Thanx!

Beautiful house and rooms; walking distance to evening dining options (plus UAB). Breakfast was good, but not exceptional as at some other B&B's. Note weekday breakfast is at 7:00 am. Check in was easy, even though the Innkeeper was away and not available until the morning. Nice place, good stay.

The Cobb Lane B&B was nice, clean, and felt very safe (its across the street from the police station). Its in a great location to the Five Points area and is walkable to several restaurants/shops. We stayed in the Periwinkle room and the TV in the closet was a little unnecessary. A flat screen TV in the main large dresser would be a nice and easy upgrade. The dressed mannequin in the room as a little strange, and all the dresser surfaces were filled so there wasn't as much room to put our things. The food was good, but not great. Our room was extremely hot during the night, even when the hallways were a comfortable temperature. According to the other guests in that room, there was an issue with the temperature in that room being too cold. Overall, we enjoyed our first Bed and Breakfast experience.

I used to live in Birmingham, Alabama near this bed and breakfast. I always thought it was the cutest house but never had a reason to stay there since I already lived close by. Since then, I have relocated to Dallas, Texas but came back to celebrate my birthday in Birmingham with friends. Two of our favorite places in Birmingham are J. Clyde and Blue Monkey which are practically in the backyard of Cobb Lane B&B. The owner was incredibly helpful and friendly making our stay very enjoyable. We missed our alarm so weren't able to be down when breakfast was served so she sweetly placed a note on our door to inform us that she had left coffee and juice on the table and our plates of food covered in the kitchen. This was very thoughtful and appreciated. We felt immense amount of privacy and the rooms are beautifully decorated. I definitely recommend staying here if you are in Birmingham.

The company over breakfast was delightful, and my room was very comfortable and lovely. I notice now that the description of the room I had (Camelia) indicates there's cable television, but I never saw a TV anywhere, even in the living room.
We thank this guest for their kappreciative comments. Their TV was in their closet, situated for favorable viewing from their bed in typical hotel style with remote control. Perhaps they didn't put their clothes away in their closet since they would have seen their TV which has all networks and 45 channels. Each guest room has a TV with all the channels. We thank them for coming.

I made a last minute reservation and arrived at 8 pm. The owner met me at the door, gave me my key and the lay of the land. I had plans for the evening and had no problems coming back to my room later that night. The inn is tucked away in a neighborhood that is located close to downtown and UAB, close to Birmingham's Five Points entertainmant district and close enough to walk to a number of resturants. The room was good and the breakfast was good and on time. The owner had my bill and directions to my meeting ready for me at breakfast. I would stay there again without hesitation.

This was our first B&B experience. We really enjoyed our stay in such a beautiful home. We had fun looking at all of the "collectables" as well as meeting and visiting with the other guests. This was our son's idea, an escape from the chaos after a busy Thanksgiving Day. It was a good suggestion and I am sure we will return again.

I was at Cobb Lane Bed and Breakfast this past weekend with two other couples. We stayed upstairs in the Periwinkle Room. (or the wedding dress room) We had an unbelievable experience driven mainly by our developing relationship with Sheila Chaffin. (the owner and innkeeper) She is a true lady. A New Yorker that is truely a "southern bell". She ate breakfast with our group and was so very delightful. Can't wait to return! Scott Neal

We did enjoy our stay here, don't get me wrong, but there were a few things that stuck out as sort of...not as expected. First, I specifically asked if there was a tv in our room. We were planning on being there at 3pm for check-in and were planning on enjoying just lounging around before dinner, then coming back and enjoying our room, watch a little tv and relax together. Technically there was a TV...in the closet, around the corner from the bed where you can't see it. Secondly, the rooms were a little smaller than what we perceived from the pictures. All in all, it was a nice stay, and would be awesome if you are passing through and need a comfortable bed and a breakfast to eat. Or, if you're looking for a nice place to come and read a book maybe. But, if you're wanting a place to come relax, watch some TV...this isn't where you wanna go. Located directly across the street from the Police department and right near restaurants and bars, it's a great location. Breakfast is a tad early for people who want to sleep in a little, but it's pretty good and the owner sits down and talks with you so that was nice.
We appreciate the several compliments in this review. With regard to the TV, we're not sure which guest this was, but in their profile they stated they've never stayed at a Bed and Breakfast before. They may not be aware that many Bed and Breakfasts don't have TVs. We however, have TV's in all of our rooms which are viewable from the beds, with exception of Southern Magnolia honeymoon suite, where one views from a chair like you would in your living room. We hope they'll come again, identify themselves as wishing to view TV from their bed, and we'll be happy to arrange a beautiful room for their enjoyment. We thank them for coming!

Overall the house is OUTSTANDING... BUT... We were disappointed with the MESS around the house and repair needed in our room. Patio Table outside our room had no glass in it... Patio table on side of house had stuff laying on it... 30 minutes worth of outside work would really allow the house to shine! Instead of looking dirty... Our room had a damaged door frame.. Again a few nails... ALL THESE ARE MINOR THINGS!! WE DID ENJOY OUR STAY VERY MUCH!!! WE WILL STAY THERE AGAIN!!!
We keep our premises in good condition and had a contractor performing some temporary refurbishments to maintain that standard. All is well!

Last minute reservation during a busy weekend in B'ham for the vintage motorcycle festival/racing at Barber Motorsports. What a great find - excellent location, gracious innkeepers, wonderful breakfast, beautiful Victorian charm all in one place! We'll definitely plan to stay again but book further in advance to maximize our room "options".
This couple arrived by motorcycle to enjoy one of the Nation's outstanding nearby motorcycle venues -- Barber Motor Sports. Their collection of high quality vintage motorcycles is unique and some motorcycles are regularly transported to New York City's Museum of Modern Art for displays of beautiful designed objects. We enjoyed these guests very much. Thank you for coming!

Beautiful home, all decorated as if it was the 1900's. Very congenial hosts. Great location as it is very close to many restaurants. Very quiet as there is little traffic. The Magnolia Suite was spacious.

We spent two nights at the inn for our honeymoon! We stayed in the Southern Magnolia Suite and it was wonderful! Ira and Sheila were very accommodating and recommended local attractions for us. The food was amazing and the peacefulness of sitting on the front porch and enjoying our coffee was the perfect start to our days! We had a wonderful time and will return!
It is always our pleasure to host guests enjoy our Southern Magnolia Honeymoon suite who also take advantage of the large wrap-around front porch to sit out, relax, perhaps have a glass of wine or a soda. We have a Five Points Historic District walking tour which guests often enjoy which points out the features and location of the several dozen National Historic Registered buildings in our District, including our Inn. Thank you for coming!

Our room was in need of a good dusting, lacked screens when we needed fresh air due to inadequate AC and offered a shower in need of grout and removal of scale deposits on the shower head. The breakfast, although early at 7 a.m., was well prepared and the cookies which were always available in the living room were wonderful.

I had a guest coming in from out of town and she has been wow'd by Hollywood so a normal hotel simply wouldn't do. I wanted something that was unique to Birmingham. The graciousness of the Ira and Sheila (even from afar) was nothing short of stellar. I will definitely keep the Cobb Lane B&B on my list for future guests and might even steal away some time for myself sooner than later.
This review made our year. that a sophisticated traveler who has visited many Inns, liked our Inn. The New York Times visited incognito and made this same comment in their review. We are honored these guests came! Thank you so much.

We arrived late, around 9:30 and still received a VIP welcome. Loved the idea of having a private entrance to our room which was extremely clean and well decorated for its name (the Zebra Room). As we arrived we quickly needed a cab, Ira called a cab service and had him there in time to arrive at our destination on time. Woke up to a beautifully set dinning table and chatted with other friendly guest while being served a delicious breakfast! The Inn is a spectacular stay and the owners were very helpful in suggesting places to visit. Will definately be back! Thanks for everything!! Bryan Crowe. Delta, AL. ps; using my phone for this post and apparently I'm unable to select "plate ratings" but I give a 5 out of 5 for each catagory.., and I stay at B & B's alot! Thanks!

My wife and I enjoyed a night out on the town and were able to save ourselves the long drive home afterwards by staying at this centrally located home away from home.
This guest enjoyed a "Stay-Vacation" where you don't travel far from home but have a unique and enjoyable experience. Our Inn has become a favorite for couples on the week-end having a "Stay Vacation". We're glad they enjoyed their visit and look forward to seeing them again. Thank you!

This is a great place for a quick getaway. It has a great location with great bars and restuarants within walking distance. If you are a beer lover the the J Clyde is a must. It is a pub with an endless beer list as well as great food. The breakfast at the Cobb Lane B&B is fantastic.
Within a 3 block easy walk of the Inn, there are 26 restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues. Choices range from sandwich shops to one of the top 5 restaurants in the United States and most famous one in Alabama--Highlands Bar and Grill. We're so pleased these guests found a favorite place and look forward to their next visit. Thank you for coming.

Sheila and Ira Chaffin are wonderful hosts: friendly, interested and caring. It was a pleasure to stay at the B&B. The interior is great and carefully chosen and arranged by the owners. The stay was a total pleasure. Highly recommended!
We love it when our guests like the decor, since I am an Architect and Ira is an Artist. We had a lot of fun choosing furnishings and decorating the place after its 1.5 year renovation to restore it to its 1898 charm and save it from urban destrauction after we bought it in 2003. Thank you for noticing!

Nice location, quiet, enjoyed dinner at Oceans, which is within walking distance. Host very friendly and accommodating.
A brief 1/2 block from the Inn, is Ocean's Restaurant, at corner of 20th St South and 13th Ave South. The food critics recent book rates one of their desserts as the "number one best dish" in Birmingham. It is delicious! We're glad these guests found Ocean's and enjoyed it as we do also. Thank you for coming.

We stayed 2 nights at the Cobb Lane B&B and had high expectations from previous reviews and their website. Our room was the Rose room on the first floor and we didn't realize it would be right in front of the dining room which wasn't ideal. To top that off, it had 2 large pocket doors that joined in the middle as an entrance, and they did not close all the way which left about a half inch gap all the way up so the doors were "open" to the whole ground floor. The owner had put a giant curtain on the inside of the room to try and address this it seems, but no privacy was possible even with this curtain. Anybody in the dining room or walking around could hear everything going on in our room and see in if the curtain wasn't drawn. So much for a romantic anniversary weekend! The room was nice looking and clean and had some definite charm but the bathroom fixtures were old and not very nice. There were no bathrobes and the towels were thin and not fluffy at all. Also there were a lot of "breakables" scattered around the room which made it difficult to use the furniture to lay out our belongings and the electrical in the room was scary! The bedside lamp plug actually sparked and almost burned us when we plugged it in! There were few plugs to put phone chargers which wasn't helpful, had to charge in the bathroom. The breakfast left much to be desired, a plate of cold eggs and bacon or sausage with a little fruit and a bread item. Cookies were definitely from a mix and nothing felt "homemade." The price per night was pretty cheap and I guess you get what you pay for. Overall a really disappointing experience.
We appreciate all of our guests who come to our National Historic Registered property built in 1898. Their patronage helps keep alive this National asset for the next generation. We pleasantly remember these guests who enjoyed home made pumpkin scones, local fresh grown fruits, eggs, sausage, bacon, and our home made sausage croissant bake. Each day we had homemade chocolate chip, swedish wedding, and peanut butter cookies for their enjoyment in the front parlor under a glass case. The cookies were not from a mix, but baked fresh by our staff. Often guests remark about the pleasant cookie aroma in the Inn during the afternoons as they stop by the kitchen to sample some. The Rose Room was chosen by these guests at our web-site reservation system, which has the caption "located on main level across from the Dining Room". They did not express any concern about their room location as they checked in, had they done so, we might have been able to relocate them within the Inn at that time. The Rose Room is charming with its original 1898 double doors as noted in the National Historic registration about the Inn. Perhaps we didn't explain well enough about how to close the door which is the source of their comment. The Inn has 100% new electrical wiring from its 2004 renovation, supervised by City building inspectors. After these guests left, we noticed an extension chord at a bed side table had worn out during our inspection, it was quickly replaced, all is well. We would have happily done so while they were here, had they mentioned it. It is our management goal for our guests to be pleased by their stay. We invite future guests to please speak with us if they have questions, suggestions, or any concerns.

50 yrs ago (Aug. 1961) I was one of several college students residing at the boarding house that is now Cobb Lane Bed & Breakfast. I returned on Aug. 2, 2011 to find my former room had been transformed into part of what is now the beautiful and elaborate Southern Magnolia Suite. My wife and I truly enjoyed our stay here and the southern breafkast was delicious.
This was a truly remarkable guest to come back after 50 years to see the place in its new life as a Bed and Breakfast. Sometimes others drop by who used to come to this location when it was a realtor office, Kaplan testing prep counselor, a Ballet shop, Christian family couunseling center, and for a massage! One time an elderly nephew of the 1898 Owner who had been inside in its original condition visited with assitance of his family. His remarks were precious to us, especially after our heavy investment to restore the building to its Victorian origin.

We had a good time meeting other travelers.
We like this reference to "fun times" speaking with other guests during their stay. Often guests remark about how much they enjoyed the other guests. The Inn attracts sophisticated well traveled guests who are often experts in their field due to its proximity to a major university and medical center. Thank you for telling us of your experience and please come again!

Cobb Lane B&B was a fantastic place to stay - a good location with lots of character, and wonderful hosts in Ira and Sheila. The inn is close to five points, a lively part of town for eating and drinking, and also in close proximity to downtown and other attractions. Rooms were clean, well kept, and full of charm. Breakfast each morning was a bonus, as were the cookies in the parlour room which were far too tempting to nibble on everyday!

I stayed for a night at Cobb Lane and had a lovely stay. The house is beautifully and meticulously styled in period furniture. There is lots of public space to relax in, as well as a wrap-around porch. Located in the Five Points neighborhood, many restaurants are within walking distance (about 5 minutes). I stayed in the Camellia room, which is located on the main floor. It was very spacious and well-equipped with anything that I might have needed. The only issue was that the room is located directly across from the kitchen which receives a lot of foot traffic. I'm sure that breakfast was fantastic, but it was served at 7:00 AM! I find this to be a tad bit early for my taste. All in all, I had a a fantastic visit. I definitely recommend it!

If you like Victorian / Victoriana decor with a splash of Country French, this is the place to go. The house is spacious and elegantly decorated. The porches are large and airy. The hosts are gracious and after check-in we came and went as we pleased. We stayed in the Periwinkle room, which turned out to be light and airy and well-sized with its own attached bathroom. The picture on the website just didn't do it justice. The breakfast was communal sit-down at the dining table (not a buffet or serve-yourself) with fine china - gorgeous and tasty. Sheila was pleasant company and most helpful in telling us about the area, and where to go to eat. The area seemed safe to walk around in, though we didn't personally venture out after dark. I appreciated the cookies, water, and soft drinks our hosts provided for us. We didn't use the WiFi. The only thing that was a bit different was that the cable TV was in the closet, to preserve the decor and ambiance. Luckily we could watch it from our bed - in some of the other rooms, that wasn't possible - you'd have to sit in a chair or on the floor or something. Definately a great place to go and relax, especially if you want to get away from it all for a while. It was very quiet and peaceful.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The innkeeper, Ira, was very friendly and helpful as were other members of staff we encountered. Breakfast was good - freshly cooked and tasty. In the main house, there is a little kitchen guests can use, and the fridge is stocked with complimentary cold drinks - a very good idea and much apppreciated. We stayed in a room at the back of the house with it's own little entrance. It was quite nice, but a little disappointing. The room itself was quite cold, and not very cosy. There wasn't really anywhere to put any clothes or anything either. It was however, very clean and the bed was very, very comfortable. The bathroom was quite nicely laid out and was also very clean. I would definitely stay here again, and would recommend this B&B without hesitation, but I would stay in the main house next time.

We recently stayed with our 2 children at the Cobb Lane Bed and Breakfast and could not have been happier. The innkeepers were exceedingly friendly, welcoming our children with fresh baked cookies after a long drive. The rooms were immaculate and interestingly decorated with eclectic antiques and period pieces. As well, the breakfasts were delicious and accomodated our special food needs. A highlight for us was visiting Ira Chaffin's carousel horse carving and sculpting studio --it was both informative and fascinating. One other special touch I wanted to point out that others may not mention is the complimentary beverages in the refrigerator set aside for guests' use. After becoming all too familiar with paying $2.50 for a bottle of water in most hotels, it was refreshing to see this minor attention to detail that said to me that the innkeepers really care about the comfort of their guests. We will recommend this bed and breakfast to others and hope to stay there again soon. Sincerely, Steven Siegel

My husband and I were looking for a great place to stay close to dining & entertainment, with a great price to boot. This place has it all! We stayed in the Zebra Room (arrived Wednesday, left Friday), which had its own exterior entrance away from the main traffic of the rest of the house... and it turned out to be perfect for us. The owners were very accomodating and allowed us to arrive late evening (around 9pm), and still took the time to show us around and walk us through a map of Birmingham (Thanks, Ira!). After a long day at work followed by a long drive to Birmingham, we overslept and missed breakfast. When we left our room to find a place to eat, a note on our door said breakfast was being kept for us upstairs! We so appreciate the staff for a wonderful one-of-a-kind stay. We highly recommend Cobb Lane Bed & Breakfast, and hope to visit again soon!

I really liked the location and feel of Cobb Lane. Heads up! The Zebra room can be very cold (I visited in March). Good for snuggling :-), but the space heater did not make a difference. Other than the temperature (of which I received fair warning prior to booking), everything else was lovely. The morning breakfast and discussion was refreshing. On the second morning we did not make it to breakfast...it was very impressive to find our breakfast waiting for us in the kitchen. The service was impeccable. I would reccommend it to everyone.

The experience of a island vacation in the middle of Birmingham, AL was spectacular. The anticipation of arriving at the B&B was nerve wrecking but once we stepped into the front door of the home the decor takes you back in time. Our room was the Zebra and it was more than I expected. My friend actually fell to his knees. We were blown away by the warm feeling of the room and the breakfast was icing on the cake. Sheila was soooo Wonderful! I highly recommend this stay for couples. If your love needs fire I highly suggest this B&B. We will definitely make this anniversary for next year.

I was turning 40 and decided to give the Cobb Lane B&B a chance to make my 40th birthday extra special with some of my girlfriends! Four of us stayed in the two-room suite at the end of the hall upstairs and to our surprise, we had a nice little balcony to sit on and drink wine in the evening and coffee the next morning after breakfast. I slept in the Marie Antoinette room. There was no room for our luggage anywhere (because of the dress mannequin with the huge dress on it in one corner and the other corner full of porcelain baby dolls). Despite that, the rooms were very nice, especially if you like Victorian decor! The owner was wonderful and so accomodating and made me feel very special. I was also pleased with how clean the place was despite it being a very old house with very old antiques and furnishings. The breakfast on Sunday morning was delicious. When we retired upstairs to our little balcony, the owner sent up a fresh pot of coffee and ginger cookies for us to enjoy. A nice touch. I will definitely be back with my husband next time...if he can stand all the frou-frou and dolls everywhere!

We enjoyed our visit to Birmingham. Cobb Lane is conveniently located and sitting on the porch visiting with guests is always a pleasure.

I recently stayed at Cobb Lane B&B for a business trip. The accommodations are very convenient to UAB and within a few blocks of a number of places to eat. The room was clean, quiet and Ira was very hospitable. I'll definitely stay next time I'm there to visit UAB.

This was our first time ever staying in a B&B and we will definitely try to stay in them exclusively if we are not taking our children with us. The host was friendly and was able to make us all feel at home, which is not easy when a bunch of strangers sit down for b'fast together. The accomodations were lovely and the food was delicious. Amazing weekend!!

Our visit to Cobb Lane B&B was pleasant, thanks to our friendly and interesting hosts. If you enjoy the bed and breakfast experience, we encourage you to stay with the innkeepers, Sheila and Ira Chaffin, whenever you are in or near Birmingham, Alabama. The inn itself is pleasant to look at and well appointed, however our room (the Zebra room) did not have its own heating system, so we were very cold. The thermometer on the inadequate space heater in the room never got past 67 degrees despite being turned to the maximum setting for our entire stay. If you appreciate heat, you may prefer one of the rooms in the main portion of the property. The breakfast was advertised as a elegant, and it was indeed. The setting was comfortable, and our host, Ira, provided wonderful service and interesting conversation. Be sure to ask him about his sculpting; he's a wonderful artist. We thank Ira and Sheila for a very pleasant stay and wish them all the best in their fascinating ventures.

We had a great time at the Cobb Lane B & B. Everything was beautiful and everyone was friendly. Just a great weekend.

The location of this B&B couldn't be better. My husband and I were able to walk less than a block to get drinks and to our restaurant. The service was also excellent. Since we were not there on business and did not want to have breakfast at 7am, Ira brought us breakfast in bed at 9:00. They really went out of the way to make our stay perfect.

My first B & B experience was wonderful. Room comfortable, breakfasts surprisingly filling and served tastefully amid fun company, setting ideal in historic Birmingham district, decorations interesting throughout the inn, lobby/sitting room and deck great for receiving "guests of guests", hosts very accommodating in every way. Only minor criticism concerns lack of dusting (e.g baseboards and knick-knacks)

I was recently in Birmingham on business, and I stayed 4 nights at Cobb lane. I was in a hurry when I made my reservations and didn't realize that I had put the wrong date in for my arrival. I arrived one day earlier than they were expecting me, but Sheila Chaffin was very understanding and accomodated me without any complaint. This B & B is in the heart of the city and is in walking distance of the historic 5 points south area which offers a wide variety of restaurants and clubs to check out. It was also the perfect location to learn my way around the city. Anything I needed was just a phone call away and the breakfast was served on time which was important to me since I had a strict time schedule. I chose the smaller less expensive bedroom, but still found it a charming room, though a little chilly at night. The house is beautifully decorated, and by staying there, you can receive a bit of an education about its history and the history of birmingham. Overall, I enjoyed my stay and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a centrally located B & B at a very reasonable price.

The Zebra suite was quaint and clean. Breakfast was brought to the room and was outstanding. There are maintenance items and painting that need to be done. Porch furniture on both levels need attention. We enjoyed the direct outside access from the Zebra Suite. The queen bed was sufficient but with the wrap around couch it made getting in and out of bed on the wall side an adventure. Having said this, we would stay there again.

The home and decor reflect an era that had a much slower pace than we experience in today's hectic lifestyle. Although we were only overnight guest, we enjoyed our stay in the Magnolia Room very much. Breakfast was fantastic; enjoying the conversation with Ira and guest while eating amazing pancakes. After we checked out we visited with Ira at his art studio/classroom and learned much about bronzing and wood carving. Really enjoyed seeing the carousel horses carved out by Ira's students. Cobb's is a must stay. Berri and Donna, Tennessee

Our stay was cozy and warm. Ira and Sheila are wonderful hosts and the home is exquisite. Reasonably priced for a parents "night out."

This was my second stay at Cobb Lane, and I found it easy, relaxing and restful. As my husband and I like to walk, not drive, the location was perfect for strolls around the Five Points area, home to fine dining restaurants as well as other interesting places, such as the owner's sculpture and wood-carving studio, just down the hill. We live just 100 miles away and will definitely come back to Cobb Lane on other Birmingham excursions.

Why stay in a hotel? This place is right in the heart of downtown, within walking distance of many good restaurants and UAB, and has a police station nearby. Felt very safe and comfortable. Room was great. Hosts were very helpful when asked. I would stay here again.

Went to B'ham to see family the location is excellent. It's in the best part of town , located walking distance from the best night spots in town.Very secure area ,just across the street from police station. The house was in excellent condition and furnished beautifully. The host were pleasant and seemed interested in the guest.

This B&B made Birmingham so much more fun! The city itself is cute, but the B&B is spectacular. The breakfast was devine; we couldn't wait to get up each morning and see what they would serve next! The house is in the perfect location since its surrounded by great restaurants and music. We stayed in the Camelia Room and it was very comfortable. I highly recommend Cobb Lane Bed and Breakfast if you are staying in Birmingham!

I spent only one night at Cobb Lane because of flight problem that made me arrive 2 days late at Birmingham. The place was full of details, decorations were beatiful. My room was very cozy and comfortable, it had everything I needed and everything worked to perfection. I really enjoyed the plush bathroom in my room. I stayed in the Periwinkle room.

My husband and I had a two night stay, as well as held our wedding at Cobb Lane. I could not have asked for a more beautiful wedding. The innkeepers and their staff are amazing and very nice. We loved every moment we were there and will be back as often as we can! Thanks again Cobb Lane!

We stayed only a night but this B and B made for an excellent 24 hours -- we were on a civil rights tour of the south and wanted to see the Civil Rights Institute, 16th St Baptist Church and Kelsey Park -- all easily reachable from the Cobb Lane B and . Plus walking distance to great restaurants, and easy parking. Imaginative decor, a good breakfast, friendly hosts. from Cinda and Dan, Barbara and Rufus.

Beautiful B&B within a short walk of Five Points dining area. Service was great as owners are very hands on. Lovely rooms and common areas and a very nice breakfast. The only negative I had was the really tight parking but I would definitely put up with that to return to this oasis.

We recently stayed at Cobb Lane B & B. It was an outstanding experience. We booked the Rose Room and it was exquisite. Sheila was a great hostess, and breakfast was both beautiful and delicious. We would highly recommend this B & B.

The inn is lovely, the inkeeper, Sheila Chaffin, is kind, professional, and hospitable. The food at breakfast is fabulous, the fresh-baked cookies in the afternoon are to die for. I have only three negative things to say about our experience there. (1) The beds, while clean and covered with beautiful linens and bedclothes, are hard and very uncomfortable. I realize some people love hard beds but since I like soft well-cushioned beds, I had a really difficult time getting a good night's sleep. (2) The place was sparking clean in the ways that really matter to a guest. The bedding, table linens and serving ware, and the bathrooms were wicked clean. But it is really difficult to get all the dust and spider webs out when there is so much Victorian frou-frou everywhere, such as picture frames and mirror frames with lots of elaborate carvings, and delicate glass light fixtures. This was occasionally distracting. (3) This is not the innkeeper's fault but on Saturday night the noise and music from a nearby popular nightspot on Cobb Lane behind the inn was quite loud and did not subside until about 2:00 AM. My son was staying in another room at the inn and could not hear the noise, which probably affects mainly those staying in rooms on the upper floors on the backside of the lovely old home. Keep this in mind when you make your reservations if such noises bother you and stay in the rooms more towards the lower floors and the front of the inn.

We stayed there as part of a weekend trip to do the Richard Petty Driving Experience. There were two couples traveling, so we stayed at their guest condo instead of the main house (which is right next door). The main house is much nicer, but also more expensive. I would definatley recommend staying there instead of the guest condo if you only need one room or are only there for one or two nights. The innkeeper was very informative. And the location was great to walk somewhere close for dinner. There were homemade cookies for us in the parlor which was a nice touch. We could use the main house sitting area to visit if we wanted and that was also where we ate breakfast. The condo was very clean--but the bathroom sink would get stuck on the door opening and closing and the fiberglass tub was not something I was particularly crazy about. (The bath could use a remodel.) The beds and furnishings were done as an attempt to match the home next door and were very comfortable. The breakfast was very good and was just the right amount. It eggs with fruit and a crescent pastry filled with sausage and cream cheese. I would stay there again and would recommend the Cobb Lane to my friends.

Despite the facility needing a facelift, I enjoyed my stay. The hosts are always courteous and friendly. The room I had upstairs was very hot - slept with the window open all night. I like the Rose Room the best.

We had a very nice stay -- quiet room, very comfortable, excellent ambiance, and personable, engaging hosts who seems truly concerned about the quality of our visit. Would visit again, especially given the B&B's proximity to points of interest in B'ham.

Lovely bed and breakfast in a quiet area, close to restaurants and sites. Breakfast is early (7am) but understandable as both Sheila and Ira have other jobs. The food was delicious and it gave us time to chat and I'm glad I made the effort to get up!

This bed and breakfast is fabulous! We booked all the rooms for my wedding party to stay the weekend. My wedding was at the Rucker Place which is right down the road from the b&b. It made our stay so convenient. The historic atmosphere fit perfectily with my wedding theme. Sheila was so helpful and nice as we planned our weekend stay there. Her husband and the rest of the staff were wonderful! They helped plan and carry out our bridal brunch while we all got ready for the wedding. They had a perfect room upstairs for all of us to get ready in. Every aspect of our staying was outstanding! The food was delicious! This place is far more beautiful in person than in the pictures! The hospitality and personal attention was extraordinary! I would highly recommend staying here!

This b and b was a step back in time. The house and furniture reminded me of my great grandmother's house. My room was the rose room which I thoroughly enjoyed (the foto on the website does it justice). The breakfast was yummy; the guests were interesting and courteous; I could easily walk to UAB; and I could walk to a neighborhood restaurant, get a take out, and enjoy it on the front porch of the b and b as I watched the rain. It was a delightful stay.
