Inn Details
Mary Elizabeth Stallworth, the former owner of this turn-of-the-century home in Beatrice, Alabama, was quite a remarkable woman. She was the first woman to enroll in the College of Architecture at Auburn University and was the second to graduate. While her career took her as far as Washington, D.C., she ended up returning home to Beatrice. This home is both a testament to her past and a perfect place to spend a few nights in Monroe County. Historical and recreational activities abound in this area. Only a quick fifteen to twenty minute drive from downtown Monroeville, the Stallworth Home is an ideal lodging for those who are traveling to town for the local production of “To Kill a Mockingbird,” the play based on Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize winning novel. In fact, many aspects of the Stallworth Home are reminiscent of the era in which the novel is set. See the Area Attractions page for more information on things to do while you’re here.
