11th Avenue Bed and Breakfast
-
The cottage entrance to the 11th Avenue B and B in Anchorage. It connects via a breezeway to the new and modern addition (added in 2004) where two beautiful guest rooms are housed. A third guest area (en suite bedroom, bath, kitchen and lounge area) is located in the cottage, and is under renovation. That area is due to be completed in September, 2012. Photo taken by Karen.
The sunning deck at the 11th Avenue Bed and Breakfast. Guests are welcome to kick back and relax. Like Tommy Bahama says, Life is One Long Weekend. (We wish it was, anyway!)
The Expedition Room is a roomy and comfortable space with lovely light. The queen sized bed is warm, soft and supportive with great linens. This is a bed that's hard to leave in the morning. The room also features a dressing table and nice city views, a private bath with tub and shower, and premium towels. Plush spa robes, a snack basket, a flat screen TV with in-room cable TV/HBO and all the other usual amenities are also provided.
The en suite bath found in the Odyssey Room. This 3/4 bath features double sinks, granite counter tops and an oversized shower. Thick, thirsty towels, lush spa robes and other amenities await!
The Odyssey Room is a spacious, gracious room. This room has large windows which frame a view of the Chugach mountains to the east, bordered by beautiful birch and evergreen trees. The queen sized bed features luxury linens and is so comfortable and cozy, you won't want to get up in the morning. A snack basket, thick, fluffy towels, cozy spa robes, cable TV with HBO and all the usual amenities will be waiting for you upon arrival.
The private bath designated for the Expedition Room. Compact yet beautifully appointed, warm and welcoming. Only the best for 11th Avenue guests!
The kitchen and food prep area. Guests are encouraged to help themselves to coffee and snacks located in the 'help yourself' area at any time. This area is regularly stocked with fresh baked cookies and breads, fruit, trail mix, fresh brewed iced tea, lemon or cucumber water, and other lovely treats daily. The area also features the beautiful artwork of skilled Alaskan Native artisians, as well as other art from the owner's travels around the world.
The guest lounge area is an inviting place to read, relax, 'nternet,' and visit. Wireless internet is available throughout the property.
The guest dining area. This is where our fabulous breakfasts featuring local fare and the freshest ingredients are served each morning. Smoked Salmon Quesadillas, Eggs Chinook, Marilyn's Special Steel Cut Oatmeal and Star's Reindeer Sausage Sandwiches are just a few examples of the cuisine you will enjoy. We can't wait to see you at our table!
An example of a breakfast served for a couple who likes to eat light. On the menu this day...fresh juices and brewed coffee, Apricot and Fennel Scones (from the nearby Fire Island Rustic Bakery this particular day, although usually we bake our own goods) and Granola, Seasonal Berry and Greek Gods Vanilla Honey Yogurt Parfaits. The local paper, the Anchorage Daily News is always on the table, and the particular food preferences of guests (i.e. vegan, vegetarian, low carb, low fat, high protein, etc.) are always accommodated. We also ask about food allergies and do our best to make sure those are respected. This couple was very happy, and you will be too.
The 11th Avenue Bed and Breakfast is about 1/2 mile from the ceremonial start line of the Iditarod in Anchorage. The race always kicks off the first Saturday in March. Early spring is a great time of year to visit Anchorage and Alaska. In this photo, taken by Jerry in March, 2011, a musher leaves the Rainy Pass checkpoint.
Another Iditarod activity photo. Sled dogs in the back of an Iditarod Air Force pilot's plane. They are heading to Nome the easy way, but they'd rather be racing. Photo taken by Jerry.
This photo is taken in mid-March, flying back from White Mountain to Nome. It's taken at about 8:30 p.m. The light in the Arctic can be so beautiful, it makes your heart hurt.
A common sight to see here. Hello, Ms. Moose and little twin baby mooses! Moose may look docile, but do give them a wide berth and don't irritate them, especially when they have babies about or are food stressed (i.e. when the moose are hungry because their food sources are covered by snow). This particular photo was taken by Phil in his neighborhood near the 11th Avenue B and B.
The fishing is good in Alaska! Trip planning assistance is always available for the asking. In this photo, Marilyn holds a nice king salmon that she had just caught out of the Yetna River. Photo taken at Three Rivers Lodge, Lake Creek, Alaska.

Smoked Salmon Quesadilla
The meal begins with an array of fresh juices and coffee, and seasonal fruit specially selected for quality and freshness. The Smoked Salmon Quesadilla, a wonderful compilation of layered ingredients originally created by Marilyn's sister Karen for her Lake Creek Lodge, begins with a fresh tortilla crafted by the Anchorage based Taco-Loco company. Locally smoked Bristol Bay red salmon is then stacked on, followed by four different cheeses, tomatillo sauce, cilantro and green onions, and a perfect smear of sour cream. These layers of goodness are then topped off with a tortilla lid. The Quesadilla is then lightly grilled and served fresh, hot and melty. Rosemary Breakfast Potatoes or some other perfect complement are served alongside. It all adds up to a great way to start the day. Mmmmmmmm.Special meal options
