Best of Awards 2011-2012:
Top International B&Bs

The Best of International Award winners are not ranked, but are listed alphabetically. Winners were chosen based on the abundance of high-quality reviews they received, among other qualifications. Some excerpts are quoted below:

Club Arias Bed & Breakfast, Savaneta, Aruba

“We arrived late at night and Arias, the owner, was there to welcome us with lemonade and cake. He showed us around the grounds and led us to our room. This being our first time in Aruba, we didn't know what to expect. Arias help us make the perfect transition because of his outgoing and hospitable personality. Each of the rooms in Club Arias are well appointed and very comfortable. The grounds are equally amazing. Two pools, lots of chairs, and lush tropical flora create lots of little quiet corners to relax in. Arias had many ideas for out of the way locations to visit that we would have never known existed, and as a result our stay in Aruba became one we will never forget.”

The Sallerhof, Salzburg, Austria

“This was, by far, my favorite place that we stayed while on our two-week vacation. The staff was very helpful with directions and suggestions. Beds were very comfortable. Breakfast was DELICIOUS! The entire hotel is very, very clean. We didn't want to leave! They even had umbrellas for us to take since it was raining one day of our trip. If I ever get to return to Salzburg, I will definitely stay there again!”

Cachoeira Inn, Buzios, Brazil

“There is a Zen-like quality to the way the inn is designed. The theme of the inn seems to be water, and the way it flows through life and the property. The eight waterfalls flow into eight separate small pools, on two different levels around the inn. Susan and Matt graciously served breakfast every morning and any snacks we wanted during the day. They were very attentive in service to our needs. This degree of kinship and intimacy is worth a return visit.”

LIPPERGÜT'L, Füssen, Germany

“Our three days at the Lippergut'l was one of the highlights of our month-long trip to Germany. The Jacksons are wonderful innkeepers, and their home is enchanting. So many lovely little touches, like fresh-cut flowers on the tables throughout the house, cozy little reading nooks in every room, fresh baked goods, organic yogurt, fresh fruit, cheeses, and meats for breakfast. We can't say enough about our time there! You will not be disappointed.”

Villa Wastra , Ubud, Bali, Indonesia

“Villa Wastra has been the most amazing experience during my trip to Asia. The place is wonderful; everything is of such great quality, the house is astonishing, and the landscape breathtaking. The hostess, Mariah, is such a lovely person--concerned about our well-being, serving typical and delicious food, and giving great tips on tourism and shopping in Bali. If your plan in Bali is to visit all around the island, this is the best place to stay. They will recommend a great driver that will take you everywhere, and when you’re back in the villa you will have great sleep and the most perfect breakfast in the balcony, with the best croissants ever!”

N4U Guest House, Florence, Italy

“This is a beautiful place in the center of Florence. All the rooms are decorated differently, and they are amazing. The guesthouse is a few steps from all of the main attractions, and you never need to take a taxi or bus. Very super helpful staff. They made lots reservation in museums and restaurants for us during our stay. N4U is in the perfect location for a romantic gateway in Florence. It’s also really romantic that breakfast is served in your room every morning.”

RetRome Colosseum Garden, Rome, Italy

“Our room was spacious, spotless, charming, and very nicely designed. The person who checked us in was exceptionally helpful, friendly, and informative. The location of this B&B is excellent--very close to the Coliseum, but in a nice residential neighborhood. We felt safe there also late in the evening. The Metro station was only a five-minute walk away, enabling easy access to everything you may want to see in Rome. Breakfast is taken in a very nearby café, and was simple but a good start to the day. When in Rome, consider staying in this B&B, as it offers location, comfort, and good value.”

Casa Virgilios, Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico

“We were completely amazed at the sheer beauty that this little gem holds. We were greeted by Gil and his wife, the owners, and shown to our room. While asking Gil about local places for us to eat, he offered to make us some homemade enchiladas. He is an amazing chef, in addition to being a perfect host. The room was spacious, with a kitchenette and private bathroom, and was extremely comfortable. Upon waking on Saturday morning, we were greeted to a breakfast of fresh fruit, coffee, toast, and fresh juice. We were also offered homemade chilaquiles. The grounds are extremely clean and breathtakingly beautiful. Gil and his wife were very attentive to our questions and needs throughout our stay. My only regret is that I couldn’t extend our vacation by a few days here.”

Guest House Douro, Oporto, Portugal

“My husband and I recently had a wonderful stay at the Douro guest house. Carmen and Joao are fantastic, as is their beautifully restored home. We received a very warm welcome from Carmen and enjoyed a glass of port while she explained a map of the city and pointed out highlights. She was full of valuable information that couldn't be found in any of our guidebooks. Our room was expertly designed, so we had plenty of room to organize our belongings. The best part of this room is its two beautiful windows overlooking the river and allowing for beautiful city views and lots of natural light. Joao served up a delicious breakfast of artisanal breads, pastries, and cheese, along with a beautiful assortment of freshly-cut fruits. We can´t wait to return here again soon. Highly recommended! Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer!”

Valencia Mansion Bed and Breakfast, Valencia, Spain

“The Valencia Mansion is the best B&B I have been to. The location is excellent, the bedrooms are extremely clean and comfortable, and the breakfast is not only of great quality but also the hosts turn it into a very pleasant start for the day. The hosts are very nice and they make sure you feel at home. I strongly recommend it and will not hesitate to go back there.”
