BITTERSWEET CHOCOLATE WAFFLES VOTED BEST B&B BREAKFAST
Pumpkin Pancakes Take Second in BedandBreakfast.com’s First-Ever Breakfast Recipe Challenge
AUSTIN, TX, April 5, 2012 – BedandBreakfast.com℠ launched its first-ever challenge to find the most mouth-watering, delicious breakfast among its more than 12,000 inns around the world. BedandBreakfast.com’s Facebook fans selected Littleton, Mass.’ The Lyttleton Inn’s
Bittersweet Chocolate Waffles with Mint Buttercream and Strawberry Sauce as their favorite.
A close match, the chocolate waffles barely edged out Pumpkin Pancakes with Carmelized Pecans, Whipped Cream and Ginger Syrup, submitted by the Gracehill Bed and Breakfast
in Townsend, Tenn.
Taking a cue from March Madness®, BedandBreakfast.com kicked off the contest March 19 with 16 contenders selected from more than 100 entries. BedandBreakfast.com’s Facebook fans voted for their favorites, with the recipe winning the most votes moving on to the next round. The 16 were narrowed down to the Eggscellent Eight, the Foodie Four and the Final Two.
“My family is absolutely crazy for basketball, so it was fun to compete in a different kind of March Madness tournament. This chocolate waffle is surprising, because it is not sweet at all, and it provides a nice counterpoint to the strawberries and the luxurious mint buttercream,” says Mary Dugan, The Lyttleton Inn innkeeper. “As far as creating recipes, we have guests of many different cultures and countries stay at the Inn, so as a kitchen, we are used to accommodating other tastes and traditions, typically by putting a spin on the classics. This is where most of our best recipes come from! “
While waffles and pancakes came out on top, a recent BedandBreakfast.com survey of more than 1,050 B&B travelers found the All-American
(bacon and eggs) breakfast was the unquestioned favorite, with 47 percent of the votes. Carb loaders
(pancakes, waffles, bagels) and Health Fanatics
(fruit, yogurt, granola) were near ties for next-favorite breakfast, with each representing approximately 24 percent of responses. Just Like A Kid
(hot or cold cereals) and Fit Foodies
(protein shakes or smoothies) represent only 2-3 percent of responses.
Other findings from the survey include: savory edges out sweet, juice is the clear favorite over milk, and it’s a near tie between donuts and donut holes.
“Bed and breakfasts offer a personal and truly exceptional experience for travelers, which is usually highlighted by a delicious, special morning feast whipped up by innkeepers,” says Gregory Sion, general manager of BedandBreakfast.com. “Travelers are known to rave about the breakfasts they enjoy at bed and breakfasts and we wanted to highlight some of the best from around the world with this recipe challenge.
