AUSTIN, TX, May 23, 2011 – What was once a wedding ritual like throwing the bouquet and cutting the cake, taking a week-long honeymoon right after the wedding is no longer an expected tradition.  In a recent survey* by BedandBreakfast.com™, nearly one in three (30%) adults planning to marry in the next 12 months who know their honeymoon plans said they are taking a several-day honeymoon or “mini-moon” right after the wedding instead of a week or longer honeymoon.

“Budget and time constraints make it harder for newlyweds to take a week or longer honeymoon after their wedding,” says Martin Slagter, vice president of HomeAway, Inc., which owns BedandBreakfast.com.  “The survey confirmed that most newlyweds will take a several-day mini-moon rather than not taking a honeymoon at all.”

Of those planning to marry in the next 12 months, only 6 percent say they will not take a honeymoon.  More than a third (35%) of adults planning to marry in the next 12 months would consider staying in a bed and breakfast for their several-day honeymoon, trailing only the more typical hotel/resort (mentioned by 70%).  More future newlyweds would consider B&Bs for their “mini-moon” than vacation rentals (27%), cruise boats (20%), campgrounds (14%) or “other” types of accommodations (3%).

Known for their romantic, intimate and personal accommodations, bed and breakfast inns offer the perfect luxury “mini-moon” escape for couples looking to celebrate their new marriage, without committing to a week or longer honeymoon.

Nearly 200 inns on BedandBreakfast.com offer some sort of “romance package,” and many offer wedding and honeymoon deals or packages.  B&Bs offer amenities and a level of personal customer service that is unmatched by other lodging alternatives. Many B&Bs also offer free Internet, flexible check-in, private pools, spas and spa services, bars, private balconies, luxury soaps/shampoos, high thread count linens, and much more, providing top quality accommodations and service.  Travelers can find these and other amenities at BedandBreakfast.com Diamond Collection™ properties, which are professionally inspected and maintain top consumer reviews.

Brides and grooms can search for inns based on location and interests, such as adventure, culinary, spa or beach R&R.  Click here for a look at some “mini-moon” destinations – from gourmet getaways in Napa and winery stays in Bryan, Texas to romantic oceanfront sunsets in Key West.
