B&Bs are perfect for romantic escapes or relaxing weekend getaways,
but they can also be ideal for men—especially those who love beer, the
great outdoors, and history. Here are several
B&Bs loaded with features and nearby attractions that all men can
enjoy.
Antrim 1844 in Taneytown, MD
History buffs will love staying at Antrim 1844, a Pre-Civil War estate
located on 24 acres. It was built in 1844 and was once a plantation. The
B&B is just 15 minutes from Gettysburg’s famous Civil War
battlegrounds. There are nine guestrooms in the main mansion, but there
are 31 other rooms and suites housed in unique outbuildings. Eat
six-course world-class cuisine at the inn's Smokehouse Restaurant and
have a drink at the inn’s Pickwick Pub, which serves some of the world's
finest cognacs and whiskeys. It’s only an hour from Washington, D.C.
and Baltimore—take a day trip and soak in more rich American history!
Silver Forest Inn in Bozeman, Montana
This historic and dog-friendly B&B is located in the Bridger
Mountains. It’s only one mile from the Gallatin National Forest, and
nearby activities include fishing, hunting, hiking, biking, and
snowmobiling. The inn is also only 1/4-mile from Bridger Bowl Ski Area
and two miles from Bohart Cross-Country Ski Ranch. It features a hot tub
for soaking under the stars. The inn’s great room feels like a mountain
lodge and offers a fireplace and phenomenal mountain views. While here,
you may spot wildlife such as moose, turkey, elk, and deer. Another
great B&B in Bozeman is the
Howlers Inn, North
America's only B&B and wolf sanctuary.
Inn at Ellis River in Jackson, NH
This B&B offers a two-night “beer-cation” package. Start your stay
by sampling a glass of the local Tuckerman’s Ale and cheese and crackers
in their gameroom/pub. The next day, check out the micro-brews and even
cigars if you wish in nearby North Conway’s shops, then tour
Tuckerman’s Brewery. Your three-course dinner that evening at White
Mountain Cider Company includes your choice of one of their five
regional beers on tap. The inn is also a great home base for exploring
waterfalls or taking scenic drives, hiking, golf, canoeing, fishing, and
mountain biking.
Pikes Peak Paradise Bed & Breakfast in Woodland Park, CO
This
bed and breakfast is modern and sophisticated, yet it’s set amongst a
gorgeous natural setting. It’s only 25 minutes away from Colorado
Springs. All rooms have a 9,000-foot secluded view of Pikes Peak and 1
million acres of Pikes National Forest. It’s a short drive to
world-class fishing, biking, golfing, hiking, cross-country skiing, and
horseback riding. You can drive up Pikes Peak for unbeatable views of
the area, which takes an hour and a half. Within 45 to 1 ½ hours, you
can drive to white water rafting, gambling, downhill skiing, and
snowmobiling. There is also plentiful wildlife in the area.
Forty Putney Road Bed & Breakfast in Brattleboro, VT
According
to the hip innkeepers, this is not your grandmother’s B&B. It
overlooks the water and has several peaceful waterfront trails and
gardens, but is just a short walk to vibrant downtown Brattleboro. The
innkeepers are self-proclaimed beer geeks and have a small pub on-site
with over 30 local craft beers. Every Saturday night, they host a craft
beer tasting. They often have other beer-related events. Relax in the
hot tub and play a game of pool by the fire.
Cherry Wood Bed Breakfast and Barn in Zillah, WA
Get
in touch with your wild side while still enjoying modern amenities at
this unconventional B&B. The accommodations are posh, private
20-foot teepees decorated with a rustic feel. You will have a separate,
private bathroom and an open-air shower. Cherry Wood is a working farm
with a vineyard, and guests can take horseback ride tours through the
vineyards. Your breakfast may include their home-grown fruits. The area
has gorgeous views of the valley farmlands and snow-covered Mt. Adams.
Arrangements can be made for you to bring your dog or horse with you.
Black Friar Inn and Pub in Bar Harbor, ME
Described as “a gentleman’s retreat” by the innkeepers, this small inn
has British flavor. It is home to the Friar’s Pub, which serves a full
line of spirits, wines, and Gritty McDuff's microbrews (which the
innkeepers say is Maine's best). Drink in the pub itself or on the roof
deck. You can also play games in the “mysterious” grotto. The guest
rooms here have unique features such as turrets, stained glass, private
porches, skylights, and fireplaces.
Fairview House B&B at Shenandoah Valley Golf Club in Front Royal, VA
Enjoy
an up-close view of Shenandoah Valley Golf Club, a public 27-hole golf
course, while staying at this B&B. Its lower level has a pub-like
setting with kitchenette and working stone fireplace. It sits on the
Registered Historical Grounds of the Fairview Farm, and the home was
constructed after the Revolutionary War was won. While you dine on the
free breakfast, enjoy the panoramic view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Be
sure to also fit in a few rounds of golf.
