The Lounge at Parker Cottage, the back drop to our weekly wine evenings. The VON VEH ROOM is one of our Fantastic rooms it is one of our most luxurious rooms. Decorated in regal blues, silvers and light grey, it boasts an elegant four poster King-sized bed and a grand, marbled fireplace and several painted antique pieces. You will enter the room through double Oregon pine, Victorian doors and you will love the space and décor in the bathroom, with its spacious ball and claw bath and separate shower. This is the sort of room where you can imagine yourself the star of some elegant period drama, (Gone With The Wind or Doctor Zhivago, perhaps?) There are several small touches to the room to keep it feeling friendly despite its romantic grandeur.
The Paterson Room bathroomThis is the bathroom of the KLEINEMONDE ROOM at Parker Cottage. It is a Beautiful (mid range) room and is on the first floor a section of the house which is shared with only one other room so it has lots of privacy and is away from the public areas of the house. The room is decorated in calming blues and its en suite shower room is in stone and whites. It has two wonderful Louis XV arm chairs to read and relax in, as well as a chic inlaid Art Deco wardrobe. The room has air conditioning and can be fitted with either twin beds or a King bed, as you prefer.

This is the POMEGRANATE ROOM, one of our Beautiful (mid range) rooms, on the first floor away from the public areas so it`s very quiet and private. It has some partial views of Table Mountain and faces East. There`s an en suite shower room, air-conditioning and either a King size bed or twin singles. The bathroom is decorated in deep reds with slate tiles whereas the bedroom is a combination of khaki and mahogany. You`ll love the enormously deep wing back arm chair and the walk in wardrobe too.
This is the Drawing Room at Parker Cottage. All the art work is local and African. The dining room at Parker Cottage: this is where we serve our sumptuous five course breakfast in the winter (on the stoep in the summer or the garden as you choose).
The bathroom of The Fitzroy Room (one of our Fantastic, most luxurious rooms). The FITZROY ROOM is one of our most luxurious (Fantastic class)rooms: it features a ‘Princess and the Pea’ style bed (remember the fairy tale?), purpose-made for the room, which can either be a twin or a King-sized four poster. There is a marble fireplace and two superb Louis XV style armchairs to stretch out in. The room looks onto the garden at the front of the house, is full of light and situated away from the front door and breakfast room, making it more quiet and secluded. The bathroom has a ball-and-claw bath and a separate shower. The whole room is decorated in a wonderfully decadent Victorian style, with the odd tongue-in-cheek touch to keep the atmosphere fun and light as well as luxurious.
The Hamra Room is one of our Cosy (economy rooms) and is situtated in a secluded and quiet corner of the house. The decor is in soft greys, sea greens with a hint of deep pinks for accent. The essence of the room is eclectic Victorian, bold and opulent with lots of gold and polished brass in the shower room. It has a sensational bathroom with a handmade sink atop a yellowwood and oak table with a freestanding Victorian brass and copper tap rail sink-surround. The sink and tap rail were custom made for the room. There is also a large walk in shower with a separate hand shower and a King bed, or twin singles if you prefer. You'll love the two boudoir chairs which are covered in Latin script and also the original Art Deco chandelier. It is, however, quite a small room by Parker Cottage standards at 4m x 4m. (If you’re travelling with lots of luggage for example this room might be too small for you, so if this is the case, we’d suggest upgrading to a Beautiful room.) Your hosts at Parker Cottage! Parker Cottage Guesthouse is a small, owner-managed business with five permanent staff, six if you count Busby, the Parker Poodle. From left to right, Babalwa, Olga, Donovan and Marie.

We’re Liz and Phil, (the owners, seated), and came to Cape Town from the Eastern Cape (Grahamstown) in 2006.

We bought Parker Cottage Guesthouse in 2008 after a couple of years running another guesthouse.

We’re also academics by profession: Liz works in the sociology of education and is writing her Phd at the moment and Phil has a consultancy, English for Africa, that develops language solutions for business and educational institutions. When we’re not at Parker Cottage Guesthouse, Liz likes nothing better than anything to do with horses, gardens and fantastic outfits! Phil’s never happier than when covered in oil working on his Land Rover, skateboarding or windsurfing at Langebaan.
The PATERSON ROOM is one of our Beautiful (mid range) rooms at Parker Cottage. This is a large, light and airy room, decorated in an eclectic mix of 50’s and plantation styles, in light greens and soft whites with some kitsch elements (you’ll love the faux alabaster table lamps and the 1950s chest of drawers resplendent with chrome piping). It has a deco trend shower room done in reds and greys with a black and white tiled floor and pretty Victorian washstand with its original black marble. The room has either a twin bed or a King, as you prefer). The room is situated in a quiet and secluded area of the house in what used to be the owner’s quarters at Parker. It has also a small courtyard where you can catch the sun late afternoon and have a secluded breakfast too, if you like. It also has cable television.
