Review Heron's View Bed and Breakfast, Hampstead, NC

Photo Album

This bedrooom, decorated with a Dutch theme, has a large closet and its own TV/VCR and video collection. The balcony overlooks the Intracoastal Waterway and is perfect for birdwatching, stargazing, and intimate chats. Smokers like this room because they can go outside on the balcony to smoke. The sitting room between the bedrooms has television with HDTV, VCR and DVD players. The dry bar has a microwave, a variety of snacks, a refrigerator with beverages, and a guest library. The alcove reflected in the mirror in this picture has a computer with internet access, as well as a printer, copier, and fax machine. A wireless router allows laptop use all over the property.
The balconies in each bedroom offer more than a view - they offer grandstand seating to life on the waterway. The channel providing access to the Intracoastal Waterway sometimes is an arena for the morning antics of river otters, and the waterway itself offers many surprises. Playful dolphin families go by, as do recreational watercraft of all kinds, and barges with sometimes amazing cargo (like whole houses or pipes big enough to hide tractor trailors.) There are tugboats that glide quietly by at night, looking like giant Christmas trees. And when nothing is moving on the waterway, there are always birds to watch. The buoy off the end of the jetty attracts nesting birds like the great horned owl that just left her buoy nest with three owlets. In this picture, you are looking through the doorway at a dormer reading "room." Between the bedroom and the dormer is a very large closet. Couples with babies have found this closet a good spot for the Pack N'Play (crib) because it is quiet and can be kept dark. Extra linens and pillows can be found in the linen cabinet in the closet.
This cozy corner in the south bedroom serves as sofa or single bed. Children love sleeping in this space. (Extra bedding and pillows can be found in the large closet that goes with this room.)The bath has a jacuzzi tub just right for one person to stretch out and rest weary bones - or for two people to discuss the meaning of life over a glass of wine.
A separate walk-in shower faces the Jacuzzi.
This photo was taken in the spring before the garden was in full bloom but it will help you recognize the house. You will know you are in the right place when you see the three red rocking chairs on the porch.
The fruit trees on either side of the steps are Asian pears - guests who arrive during "pear season" are in for a special treat. Landscaping at Heron's View was designed to provide blooms throughout the year. This old Chestnut rose (Rosa Roxburghii) was rescued from a used car lot in Wilmington.
The upstairs sitting room is a cozy place to read or watch TV. Whether you rent one bedroom or two, you have the whole upstairs of the house to yourself.
