Winter at the Garth Mansion is wonderful. Decked out in full Victorian style. Very cozy with so many rooms offering fireplaces.Look close! That's right, this is Tom Sawyer and Becky Thatcher visiting the Garth Mansion. You just might see them on your visit here.
The Rosewood Room has thee most expensive bed in the state of Missouri you can sleep in. Circa 1869 and made of Rosewood and hand carved black walnut you will fall asleep before your head hits the pillow. Bathroom features the original clawfoot tub added in 1900.Samuel Clemens Room. Yes, he actually slept here EVERY time he came to Hannibal after moving away when he was 18. Being such close friends with Col. and Mrs. Garth it is only fitting he had his own guest room. Queen sized half-tester, private bath.
Ahh, Avie's Room. One of the favorites! The soft blues, queen canopied bed, 10 foot windows, even a fireplace to flicker all over the room when you are all cozied up on the feather bed. Hard to get any better than this.Do you play? The 1869 Steinway Square Grand stills gets tuned twice a year and boy does she sound wonderful when those original ivories sing.
If you leave hungry from the breakfast table it is your own fault. Guests usually mingle at the table for quite sometime visiting with each other. You won't get chewed out if you are late, those beds are super comfy. The whole house smells great in the a.m. help lure you up. You may also sneak off and catch a quick nap before heading into town to see the museums and shops. It is your vacation and up to you. This view shows you part of the 1500 square foot building. The spiral staircase in the foreground takes you to the loft overlooking the grassy knoll. These windows overlook the private deck which sits over the pond. There is another room, the kitchen, where your breakfast is brought to you in the a.m. Stay in bed, the light will come on when the candles are lit and the innkeeper has left the building. You see nobody until you check out.
This picture was in Victorian Homes Magazine. Warm sunshine, hot coffee and a rocking chair on either of these porches in the morning is the best way to start the day.Garth Mansion's dining room.
The exterior of the Dowager House.
Country Fair -- a warm room done in mauve with a ribbon border surrounds this wonderful room. A queen sized canopy bed and lots of charm will be yours. Alone together, turn your back on the outside world. There are three windows in this large open room facing the east and the wooded side to the south. Even on the third floor, not another house can be seen. This room also has a private bath with a shower en suite. Of the third floor rooms, this is one of Julie's favorite. Third floor room.A quiet retreat is easy in this honeymoon suite. The Woodside Room features a queen-sized bed, a private bath with a shower and also a two person whirlpool tub. The hypoallergenic featherbed and a toasty warm gas burning fireplace are assurances your desires will be fulfilled. High thread count sheets and an oversized whirlpool... now you know why we call this our honeymoon suite. But all the more reason to stay for you anniversary. Call now to reserve one of our most popular rooms.
This stately Master Bedroom suite hosts the original furniture to John Garth. A grand sized queen bed with a had carved headboard over 10 feet tall. The original Carrera Marble fireplace now burns gas instead of the coal once required (remote controlled). Often referred to as a honeymoon or anniversary suite, this bedroom features a beautiful custom made two-person whirlpool jetted tub. You will notice the design emulates the 2nd story veranda to keep in touch with the motif. The focal point of the spacious Hillside Room is a new queen size bed. The four poster antique bed is now a queen size, but the room is still very open and warm. Views of the hillside and llamas will surely please. There are two windows facing two sides of the property. This room features a private bath with a shower. The perfect room to get away to and spend quality time together in. And yes, the WiFi reaches all the rooms; this has a great desk for business folks. Great third floor room.
Another view inside the Dowager House.
Oden Rodger's room. A rich teal and mauve floral wallpaper, lace bedcover and a warm remote controlled gas fireplace sets the mood for the perfect private get-away. Queen canopy feather bed. All rooms have a private bath with a shower in a separate room within the guests private quarters. This might not seem like a big deal, but in the middle of the night ~ it is.
This room is on the third floor.
