Review Rock Hall, Colebrook, CT

Photo Album

Winter at Rock Hall - 7 working fireplaces, our signature Valrhona steaming hot chocolate or if you'd prefer - an amusing brandy - strap on some snow shoes or curl up in your down bedding with absolutely no shoes...Robber barons never had it so good. Addison Mizner brought the Continent's grandeur to Colebrook. Donghia makes it regal today. Massive cast cement fireplace, corinthian capital topped pilasters, leaded floor to ceiling windows and elaborate quarter sawn oak parquet floors are the bones of this truly "Great Room!"
Billiards anyone? Need we say more??
???
No, but we will - 1 and 1/2" slate topped original Brunswick - Balke - Collender Co. "Arcadian" 1926 pool table crafted of the finest mahogany and rosewood with inlaid mother of pearl. Sorry, we're a smoke free environment, boys.A thousand and one nights are not enough in this homage to Moorish delights. Antique Empire bed tables flank a king size Mitchell Gold Marakkesh bed dressed in cinnebar imported Anichini linens. English hand blocked and printed wall paper, an antique Persian carpet, working fireplace and hand carved furniture - to sigh for!
P.S. The original marble enclosed spray shower is legendary...
Late morning sun floods this room with warmth and light. Antique Swedish pine furniture sets off the original fir floors and wood burning fireplace. Snuggle beneath the silk duvet and antique silk embroidered coverlet after a long soak in the original claw foot tub. Louis IV might have slept in this carved queen size bed with accompanying marble topped gilt bed tables, chaise and bench opposite a wood burning fireplace. Hand blocked and printed Italian wallpaper, Anichini bed clothes, a late 17th century hand carved French walnut armoire and contemporary shagreen desk all yours to reign over!
Elegant and sweet simplicity make this king size bedded room irresistible. Gaze at the wood burning fire and the forest beyond. Curl up and dive into a good book - there are plenty to choose from. Fine antique lithographs of French Generals and a gilded Federal Eagle watch over you as you drift off to sleep...Communal dining in high style. Enjoy our Mediterranean breakfast a table beneath an enormous 19c. crystal chandelier. Sunlight streams in and vistas of our park like grounds unfold before you - a serene beginning to a perfect day.
A feast for the senses. House cured gravlax, savory frittatas, the ripest vegetables and fruits, the crunchiest granola, the most delicious house made preserves, the finest cheeses, and the freshest artisanal breads all as local as they can be. No tennis whites??? No worries!! Woven blankets and picnic hampers brimming with goodies look swell from any angle - give us advance notice and lay back and let the breeze tickle your toes...
Sun drenched dining overlooking rolling gardens - serene and sweet scented!Antique iron garden ornaments, statuary, formal gardens, cutting and vegetable beds, apple orchard and wildflower meadow - Art and Nature to soothe the soul.
Singles, doubles, or enjoy our ball machine on our artificial turf tennis court.
Icy spring water and cool shade are just a few steps away in our century old stone gazebo.
